Nice idea, reminded me a lot of Emily is Away... but I didn't get the story even after my second playthrough.

Nice idea, reminded me a lot of Emily is Away... but I didn't get the story even after my second playthrough.
Nice concept, but I got the same error as Sean after playing for a bit (when installing "snowflake" upgrade):
FATAL ERROR in
action number 1
of Draw Event
for object o_db_stock_install:
trying to index a variable which is not an array
at gml_Object_o_db_stock_install_Draw_0
Anyway, cool looking and clever game, though I am not sure it would remain fun as a bigger and longer game. Still nice for the jam!
Now I want to see the end but I am too afraid to get another fatal error :(
Cool game!
I think what was nice in Loco Roco and missing from this game is a sense of flow, where you just go fast and everything is smooth. For example, here I had to try 4 or 5 times just to get past the first level when you must split. Maybe you wanted a hard game, but I felt this part should have been easy (it looks like a tutorial after all)
Maybe changing the rotation speed could work. And the direction because currently, you actually have to press left to go right (and vice versa).
Don't get me wrong, this a nice entry for a solo Jam, I'd like to see an improved version one day :)
As others mentionned, the controls need some work. For instance, when holding the spacebar down, the character keeps jumping. The controls seems a bit laggy in general.
Also, having to restart everything when falling into a trap seems very punishing (especially when the enemies don't always kill you in one hit).
Anyway the game looks great, unfortunately the music was not working for me (even in Chrome).
Improve the flow and controls and you get a really cool game :)
Nice entry!
Though I did'nt understand why the ship keeps shifting weapons by itself...
Anyway, I am very bad at shmups and still had fun :)
Loved it!
But the music was a bit out of sync (maybe because it was the webGL version?) and I could easily mash space bar to get points.
Nice, but I think the "cat girl" form is way too slow. That could have been interesting though, but you cannot transform back, so you are just stuck. The ray is also too slow to fire, getting you hit during casting, which is a bit frustrating.
Thank you, your comments make us want to keep on working on the game! We will definitely think of ways to make it better.
Oh, and feel free to post your score! I may also add a leaderboard in the future (hopefully this kind of thing is allowed? This is just to add a little competition!)
@Pantelis Petsopoulos: We didn't sleep... Should have, though :D
@eott: Good point, we'll look into this. Actually I would have liked to have some humor in the game :/
@pixelgriffin: We didn't want to take the theme to litteraly but yes, we were not so sure either actually.
@Hyoga-3D: That's more of a puzzle game than a city builder, but I get your point. That's something we'd like to work on :)
@Ithildin: Failure is not possible for now. A way to do it would be to prevent the island for expanding when you build something without leveling up any building; game over when running out of tiles to build on. That's another thing we may implement in future versions ;)
Thank you again!
We now the game is not so easy to understand prior to actually playing (I had a hard time writing the tutorial). This needs a real in-game tutorial to get you started.
Again, the number of tiles you can work on may change in a future version (post LD).
Same for the player feedback and sound effects (I was actually just experimented a few things minutes ago).
On a side note, I am thinking of a little twist to the formula, must discuss it between us. Wait and see :)
Nice to see your scores by the way, they are quite good! I myself hardly event went past 5000-5500 points during testing :p
Thanks for the feedback!
@MayMakeGame: During development the theme actually seemed less and less obvious... But this is something I would definitely like to talk about in a post mortem.
@LostViking & HoldMeImScared: That is something we will improve in post-LD versions: giving more space to the player (but not too much! ;)). We are actually thinking of a many ways to add depth to the game!
@axoona: I wanted to make a leaderboard (post-LD) but I'm afraid it's too late now :/
@lightsoda: Think of it as more of a puzzle game than a city builder :) But we don't want player to get frustrated and actually I already have a few ideas to solve this problem!
@Sabina Lis: Currently it's 100% random so yeah, sometimes you get the same building again and again. That's something we are working on in the improved version.
Thanks for the feedback :)
