LD20 — It's Dangerous to Go Alone! Take This!

Fishing vs Aliens by shockedfrog 2011-05-09T16:43:00

Intro was pretty cool, and I liked the game idea. Not everyday you shoot fish at aliens :)
Could definitely use some alien fire to make it a bit more intense. And probably a scoring system of some kind.

Fish With Weapon by AndyBumpkin 2011-05-23T13:09:00

Awesome game!
It was a little slow I think, maybe if there were like a dash/swim really fast thing?
Music was really cool too. Definitely kept me entertained for a while :)

Das Sad by Zemmi 2011-05-09T16:54:00

This was very well done, kept me entertained for a while, it was a bit of a challenge keeping all three pieces on the board at once :)
Didn't really fit the theme all that well. Only other complaint I had was that when spawning a new piece, it would sometimes die instantly from an enemy, but you just have to time it right to get away from that.

Hammer Time by Garrett Hoofman 2011-05-04T15:08:00

Endurion - Thanks man, it was my first time doing any animation work, learned a lot. Right now the enemies just pick a point anywhere on the map and go to it, I think I'll need to make it a radius around the player the points are picked from.

Desmont - haha, that's something that should be fixed :)

Hammer Time by Garrett Hoofman 2011-05-07T01:12:00

What kind of video card do you have? Specifically memory size? I think the textures are pretty much all 2048x2048 due to running out of time to shrink them back down.

Hammer Time by Garrett Hoofman 2011-05-09T16:58:00

Thanks for the feedback.
I changed the "web" to "installer" now. When I uploaded the entry at first I didn't realize I could change the link titles.
As for the camera, I'm still not sure why it was doing that. The lookat position for the camera wasn't interpolating correctly, even though it was using the same ratio as the camera position.

Hammer Time by Garrett Hoofman 2011-05-13T12:10:00

Thanks comments Matthias,
I agree the LeftCtrl for attacking, isn't good. But that was a last ditch effort, making the game able to be keyboard only. You can use the Mouse (Left click) or you can use and XBox 360 controller which is what it was designed for.
I did like how the blocky characters turned out, and I'd like to revisit the terrain to create the same theme for everything, just a time limitation thing.
I apologize for the motion sickness, not sure why the camera was doing that, it's supposed to be very fluent, and it definitely was not. Haven't figured out why yet.

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Sepsis by berareu 2014-04-30T23:05:00

Woo I stopped the infection! Are was really well done, a cool style to it. A little more variety in power ups / enemies would be cool, but given a game jam time frame, this was awesome.

Fish Legacy: Beneath The Surface by Xeke_Death 2014-04-30T22:28:00

The intro was awesome. (Though could use a warning, caught me by surprise with the child over hearing it)
Lots of options for a ludum dare entry, nice full game.

Troubles beneath the surface by archaeometrician 2014-04-30T21:04:00

Excellently done. It was a little difficult to judge where the harpoons were going, but the extra bubble dots showing the path helped a lot. Would be neat to see this run on the Oculus Rift to give it that extra dimension.

Inner Demons by voidqk 2014-04-30T22:41:00

This was really cool, neat game mechanic, and an interesting take on the theme.

Escave! by Simon@LD 2014-04-30T21:17:00

Really liked this, it was really fun. Definitely could go further yet with polish. Fun take on a tower defense game.

Beneath The Clouds by Skipi 2014-05-01T00:15:00

An interesting game, had difficult getting anywhere, like others said, felt random, like nothing really mattered. Is it possible to get to the sun?

aoutch! by Bashosha 2014-05-02T00:45:00

The ad placement was funny. Took me a bit to catch onto clicking and holding. Is the timer supposed to keep going before you hit Next Level?

The Mad Engineer by Garrett Hoofman 2014-04-30T22:47:00

@archaeometrician Thanks! Definitely spent the majority of my time on the art, still feels like programmer art, but maybe polished programmer art?

@Mufm Thanks Mufm!

@Simon@LD Thank you, definitely had (like everyone else) bigger plans for a longer game, but that time management...

@voidqk Those dependencies... bah, I added OpenAL32.dll to the zip file, hopefully it'll work now.

@Xeke_Death :( I'm using in a development engine, there are quirks yet, this was the first time I used it to try creating a release version.

@mrspeaker I definitely envisioned multiple paths, an idea of the you (as the robot) deciding a multitude of end choices between rage and destruction on man-kind, love and peace, etc. (IE hitting the theme even harder, with it being all in the mind of the AI). Definitely still a puzzle based game though, but with multiple choices.

@sudorossy :/ did you try the one without Audio?

The Mad Engineer by Garrett Hoofman 2014-05-01T00:01:00

Using this rather cool tool : http://www.dependencywalker.com/
I found that the XInput1_4.dll was an x64 dll running against an x86 compiled application. I'm hoping that's the issue.
If it's not, there's a good chance that it has something to do with video card differences with regards to the textures (too large, not necessarily powers of 2, etc)
I've re-compiled the XInput.lib into the Application.exe so it should run now :/ hopefully.

The Mad Engineer by Garrett Hoofman 2014-05-02T00:41:00

@Skipi Bah, I had done that, must have overridden it with a non /MTd at some point.
No Neural Networks, it would be cool to add it in somehow though, it would give the robot a little bit of flare :)
If I were to continue with the game, I wanted the robot to slowly build up, more intellect (aka moves/skills), more body parts (legs, arms, torso, etc), other robot characters to interact with (predecessors). Primarily though I wanted it to be about the mind of an AI growing, and the choices it would/could make.

Debris by sudojess 2014-04-30T22:40:00

Really well polished. Didn't catch the connection to the theme, but really liked the difficulty in controls, trying to keep your orientation straight in your head was tricky.

Metal Meter Madness by mrspeaker 2014-04-30T22:34:00

Well done. Graphics were sound, sound effects went well with game, nice and straight forward. Only thing that would be nice is to have the controls listed on the web page too, took me a bit to realize I had to actually dig until I came back here and re-read the instructions.

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Frontier by crezefire 2014-08-25T13:48:00

I was able to run it, zip seems to be fine. Was a little confused on what to do exactly.
Screen kept getting rotated, screen went black, fell off the edge, died from halos :)

Peeka Boo by KamikaziUk 2014-08-25T15:52:00

This was really cool, I like the idea.
I think the character movement could use some work though, like slow it down, make him float a little bit, kind of ghosty :)

Kosmovalse by the 2014-08-25T14:09:00

Chrome is claiming that your zip file is malicious.

DISPARATE by Hoopsnake Games 2014-08-25T13:53:00

Tried to play it alone like the other comments, difficult :) very challenging.
It was a lot of fun though, definitely gave it quite a few play throughs. I'll to find someone to play it with me and see how far we can get.

Humanoid by AnaglyphCoding 2014-08-25T14:29:00

Collision detection is a bit rough. The sounds were awesome though. Seems like you should be able to duck to avoid the enemies? But I couldn't figure out how.

Rift Walker by Skills641 2014-08-25T17:08:00

Well done! Graphics & audio were nicely done. Hit boxes seemed rough, but playable.

Impact by fallingBear 2014-08-25T14:33:00

This is awesome. Very cool take on a shooter. Definitely difficult, but it's a lot of fun!

Hop Hop Planet by SnoutUp 2014-08-25T16:59:00

This was awesome, graphics were incredible, sound effects hit the spot perfectly. Some interesting mechanics in it too.

Ennaffa by MintArcade 2014-08-25T15:04:00

Really fun, loved the visuals and the music.

Shooty Space by Thaum 2014-08-25T15:56:00

Controls on the ship felt really good. I wasn't entirely sure if I was trying to shoot at everything, only ships that shot the red laser beams or what. It was fun flying around shooting things up though.

Cubic's Adventure by RikMuld 2014-08-25T01:35:00

Your game has an awesome art style to it, really dig it.
I got quite a kick out of the "Sorry, no more gameplay". Had been really surprised by the seemingly massive amount of content from seeing the 3 worlds you had until that message popped up :)

Ignis by Fanatrick 2014-08-25T03:08:00

I am as well.

Smart Home by Garrett Hoofman 2014-08-25T16:07:00

Bah, is there an error you're getting? Most likely it's a shader problem, could you try running it in the command line: Application.exe > log.txt and send me the log.txt? I should be able to fix it if I can get a log of the output.

Smart Home by Garrett Hoofman 2014-08-25T16:14:00

o0 Intermittent bugs are so much worse...

Rainboverse by modbox 2014-08-25T16:06:00

haha Rainbow barf. The art for this was awesomely rainbow. It was tricky to dodge the cats, and the hit detection was just a touch off. Got stuck on the walls on occasion.
rAIN boW bARF!

A Tale Of Words by Njord 2014-08-25T15:10:00

haha I love the audio. Epic Dragon Quest!
That must have taken a while to connect all of possibilities together. Really neat concept.

World x Sync by c_livid 2014-08-25T14:34:00

Can't seem to hit "Start Game"...

World x Sync by c_livid 2014-08-25T14:49:00

Looks like it was an issue with my Chrome, ran it in Firefox just fine.
Fun game, I like the cross-eyed trick :)

NetConnect by teoacosta 2014-08-25T14:00:00

Really nice job on this. The bounding boxes seemed a little off on the 2nd terminal. Couldn't seem to jump high enough, was constantly falling down.

LD35 — Shapeshift

Shape Quest by Levi D. Smith 2016-04-19T13:51:00

The levels were definitely more difficult than first glance, but there was some nice progression in difficulty.

Point of View by Halleflux 2016-04-18T03:33:00

Love the concept. I also couldn't get past the 3rd level, I couldn't select the triangle.
Otherwise, love the idea behind it.

Point of View by Halleflux 2016-04-18T16:20:00

So, I tried it again, and I was able to get passed the 3rd level and I thought I understood and had that ah hah moment. Then I got to the 4th level and was even more confused. It seems like the shapes don't need to be the shape that you put them on or something?

Green Knight by PinkIndian 2016-04-18T16:17:00

This was entertaining. The bird was a little OP for the platforming part, you could mostly just fly past everything and not deal with the enemies.
I couldn't figure out how to kill the wizard at the end though, nothing seemed to hit him? I had been super hoping that you needed to have him throw his "fireball" thing at one of the chandeliers and have it drop on him.

Forest Spell by dusho 2016-04-18T18:38:00

A nice laid back game. Nice visuals.
It looks like there's strategy to squirrel eating spiders, cats eating rats, etc. and timing it right. So that was cool. More visual feedback with points when the animals eat the "Dark" could be nice? Otherwise nicely done!

Color Raid by Atmog 2016-04-18T18:33:00

It was difficult to tell if/when I was attacking.
And the controls were very weird at first (QZSD?) Thankfully you have it setup that I was able to change to a WASD setup.

FriendShift Madness by vini60 2016-04-18T02:25:00

This was fun. It took a little bit to figure out how to do the shapeshifting. Had to go back to the instructions and then try again a few times to understand it.
Cool game!

Office Space by LastResortGames 2016-04-19T14:06:00

Very well done. There was definitely a fair amount of guess and check going on. I managed to get to the fifth floor and got stuck, nothing seemed to do anything at that point. Awesome idea!

Shapeful World by Jigosystems 2016-04-18T03:44:00

The low poly models were really well done.

Blue Moon by Mark Smith 2016-04-18T03:25:00

Great game! Only feedback is that it was a little tricky seeing the jump on the wolf when the camera is directly above. Maybe tilt it just a bit?

TerraShift by Leon Möhring 2016-04-18T03:41:00

This was really cool and had way more than I was initially expecting!
Would be neat to see dragon/wolf models over the tiles instead of icons. Overall, really well done. Made me think of this from the last Ludum Dare: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtWiQxke8Vk

The Magical Farm by Z4f1 2016-04-18T19:03:00

Definitely well put together. Doing more of third person over the should thing with some springy-ness might help with the camera not feeling so stiff. Well done

Barbecue Simulator by Henry00 2016-04-19T00:45:00

Very entertaining.
Had 8 steaks on the grill at once. Dropped one on the ground, picked it up to put it back on the grill, sent ALL of the steaks flying into the abyss.
10/10 would throw steaks on the ground again.

LD36 — Ancient Technology

Invent the Wheel by Delicious Code 2016-08-31T15:07:00

This was surprisingly awesome! The music added so much engagement to this, that it really makes you cheer on your sad, sad little circle drawing.
One tiny request, would be a menu option during the race to reset, I made a little bitty circle, that went really, really slow, and I had to wait until it stopped to try again.

Gladius: The Destroyer by Daniel 2016-09-01T15:29:00

The art work is superb. Music/sound effects would have added to it pretty well, but overall really good.
The controls for moving could have been improved a little more, pretty easy to get stuck when jumping. Overall though, fun, a bit of a challenge figuring out the timing for attacking/blocking.

Joey's Adventures by mato26 2016-08-31T23:58:00

Very well done! Controls, and animations were all spot on.
Second level was confusing for a while.
The torch as a timer/mechanic was a really nice touch.

Secret Balance by krish8L 2016-08-31T15:00:00

Very cool feel to the game. The intro felt a little bit longer than it needed to be, but definitely added to the I have no idea what's going on feel.
Being able to pick things up like that was a nice surprise, especially when they started to go hay wire :)

Archaic Light by NinjaNic 2016-08-29T02:16:00

The art was awesome! There wasn't much game play, but the resulting cinematic at the end was a nice reward for collecting all of the wheat.

Reinventing the Wheel by gonutz 2016-09-01T15:32:00

Nice game! Pretty cool getting it going in Go.
Are the portal things supposed to be like Stargates or something? Or more of a level transition point don't question it kind of thing :)

Floppy Disk Glitch by tartlegames 2016-08-31T23:43:00

Really liked the window in a window in a window in a window...
I did have an issue of accidentally jumping off the first platform after finishing a level and starting the next.
Controls were a little goofy, but matched up with the idea of a floppy character, with slow moving, but high jumping.

Tower of Egypt by DespiteSoft 2016-08-31T23:48:00

Smashing the whip guy into a bloody mess was a huge surprise! Loved it.
It was pretty difficult, even being patient, to get the last stone down without smashing the whip guy. I did like the part of it you mentioned above with the guy having to be looking to lose a health over smashing him. Clever.

Cauldron! by Biliogadafr 2016-09-01T16:06:00

Wow that's hard! The club swinging mechanic is awesome.
I couldn't figure out how to eat and/or grab the bananas though.
Also, my game is the exact same concept (other than making soup, and legit swinging the club manually) I even have dinosaurs.

Dont Get Eaten by Dinosaurs by Garrett Hoofman 2016-08-31T17:51:00

Thank you all for the awesome feedback!
@gonutz I just added an x86 executable to the zip if you re-download it, no code changes just a build with x86. Sorry about that.

Dont Get Eaten by Dinosaurs by Garrett Hoofman 2016-08-31T23:01:00

@DespiteSoft I had considered a tutorial, but felt that while it could have helped, didn't really need it. I tried to keep the controls and the concept as simple as possible to where you could quickly guess and check. So, if you wanted more meta-game you could then go and look up the ReadMe, even tried to order the contents of the ReadMe that way too.

@gonutz I'm not sure what's wrong, it's definitely a 32 bit executable, even used Dependency Walker and double checked that everything it references are 32 bit.

@tartlegames Thanks! I tried to make it a challenge to win in this game jam vs previous ones I've done, success!

Nomore by djfariel 2016-09-01T00:11:00

This played way better with a game pad than keyboard, was so happy to see support for it.
The controls/level of control felt awesome, especially for a game jam, just wow.
The level is so big that I started to get a little bit lost, and was having some trouble finding the right doors. Really, really well done.
