LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Blocked by Pinpickle 2014-12-08T03:57:00

Very well done! I like the spontaneous feel of the game, forcing you to figure out the new rules of each round quickly.
The visuals are also very nice and smooth.
The downside are the controls for some parts of the game. It's very hard to control, making it difficult to jump up on the tiny little blocks. (I am referring to the platformer section.)
Well done!

Veggie Kerfuffle by Vermonde 2014-12-17T02:37:00

An interesting idea, though it doesn't seem very prudent to attack the monster. (Though I wasn't able to test it with multiple people, so perhaps I'm incorrect in saying that.) I would recommend that you give some incentive to attacking the monster, such as points, or some other bonus.

RGBox by Nsmurf 2014-12-28T01:01:00

There are some bits of fine-tuning to be made, but overall, what you have here is solid.
However, it feels limited. Maybe it's just me, but I think it would be better if you died if you touched something that WAS your color, as that would allow you to walk across two blocks without needing to jump. Otherwise movement is incredibly difficult.
Regardless, well done!

Screen Mover by Sh1rogane 2014-12-07T20:36:00

It seems we had similar ideas.
Well done, by the way. This was a very creative game.

Evoccalypse by fued 2014-12-17T02:44:00

This feels like a bit of a wasted opportunity, though I understand given the time limit. Try to have something be different mechanically when you become a zombie. It's a great opportunity to do something new a unique with the concept, you just need to take it.
But I do understand the time limit is... limiting.
Nice art, by the way.

Mosaic by Doctor Broccoli 2014-12-08T22:08:00

Instantly crashed. Too bad, it looks like fun.

Serenity by rxi 2014-12-11T00:21:00

Beautiful work.

Sir Sorts A Lot by zimmy87 2014-12-17T02:46:00

The art is nice.
However, it would be nice to have something else happen. Rather incomplete, though that is understandable given the time limit.

Murder and Snow by igneousmoon 2014-12-08T05:52:00

Well done, I liked the idea of it being yourself and instead of trying to find out who did it, you are trying to find someone to frame.

To Continue by raincole 2014-12-08T21:15:00

INSANELY difficult, even the post-compo version I tried I could only get to level 2 after about a dozen tries.

OMNI by Noah Ratcliff 2014-12-25T09:29:00

I would like to finish, but given that I've now restarted the boss fight about 10 times, I have to quit.
This game does have a great use of the theme and great mechanics, but I can't help but get annoyed at the lack of checkpoints. If you screw up once, you have to go back to the beginning. (Apart from the boss fight, but then you just go back to the beginning of the boss fight.)
This is even worse in the boss fight, as the attacks are seemingly random, even though there isn't any randomness. This means the player has to play through and just memorize what the boss does, without any hope of winning until they completely get the routine down. (For this, some form of life to give the player a little wiggle room would be nice, or some warning of what is about to happen. The first part does the latter nicely, but the foot-stomping is impossible to predict or dodge if messed up on.)
Overall, this is a good game, but it requires some polishing in order to be a great game.

Bomb Disposal Unit by skyboy49707 2014-12-08T04:58:00

Unable to unzip properly.

GrayGrid by Pixelsalt 2014-12-08T04:26:00

Very difficult, but well made.
It took me a bit to understand the swapping thing.
Good, minimalist graphics, good design, it's hard to find a negative.
Very well done!

Battle of the screen by Bevilacqua 2014-12-09T01:59:00

Great concept, but I feel like it's lacking a bit. Understandable, though, given the 72 hour time limit.
Well done!

Game of the Probability Goose by Alexandre Szybiak 2014-12-29T00:58:00

I really liked this game! It was a lot of fun to play (I like games like this a lot =P), and I though I didn't really think there was a huge amount of innovation, I still think it's a nice twist to be able to change which die you use. It helps reduce the random element, which is a godsend for this type of game.
I could see this as a bigger game, if you were willing to add more content to it. Right now, there isn't too much. However, for 48 hours, this was fantastic. Well done!

The Blind Monk by PoshRaven 2014-12-17T02:52:00

An interesting idea. I ruined it for myself due to the fact that I was sure there would be some form of jump scare, so I kept my eyes open, but it still made me think about how much we rely on our vision, rather than our hearing. Furthermore, it made me think about how long it takes us to realize there is something wrong if something doesn't happen, even if we can't see it.
Well done.

StarFighter by MegaMasterX 2014-12-08T03:30:00

The web version is currently down.

StarFighter by MegaMasterX 2014-12-08T03:36:00

Overall, it's ok. It doesn't exactly do anything new, but it's fun to watch the enemy fighters fly around the screen at high speeds.

Boss Rush by Nick Weihs 2014-12-17T03:34:00

The controls are horribly clunky, and really hard to do much with. Nice idea and graphics, though.

Galaxia by greysphere 2014-12-08T20:11:00

Clicks. Lots of clicks. Click click click.

Snow Day Tiles by Stipple3D by stipple 2014-12-14T02:55:00

Simple, but very fun. Not much to suggest as far as improvements. I can see this being made into a mobile game.
Well done!

Operation Barrage by sirdorius 2014-12-15T20:13:00

This would work well on a mobile device, especially if you could make it so two people could play at once on the same screen.

Play Area by Halleflux 2014-12-10T18:43:00

Thank you everyone for all of your feedback!
I just thought I should take a moment to respond to to some of it, so here we go:

I do agree that the instructions are poor. At least, by comparison to what visual instructions would be. I haven't actually done much in the way of creating instructions before, so it caught me off guard when some people I had playtesting couldn't learn the game. At that point, though, all I could do was refine the text, as i couldn't make visual works at that point to teach the player. Sorry about that. =\

I do understand the screen instantly zooming is a bit jarring, but I felt that it would help my game fit the theme a bit better. As for whether I was right or not is a matter of opinion, I suppose. I personally think the best way to handle it would be to have the option of scrolling in and out on the selected area via the scroll wheel.

KilledByAPixel: I felt that if I showed the connections without having the player to push a button, it might make them think that the connections might be something else at certain points in time, and I didn't want that confusion. Thanks for your feedback, though!

I do plan on making this into a full game at a later point, so please, if you have any suggestions, post them!

Again, thank you everyone for all of your feedback!

Pixel Peon by jojocanard 2014-12-08T21:25:00

A nice take on the theme.

At Last, This Will Be Our Final Battle by Laddo D 2014-12-10T23:52:00

Rather difficult, but I found letting the knight die actually helped me a lot, given that the boss dealt more damage if I dealt more damage to it.
Also, it's a tad incomplete, though that's not an issue given the time limit.
The graphics are fantastic, by the way.
Well done!

Venus: The last defenders by mnill 2014-12-26T23:48:00

...Needs expansion on the idea before one can really judge it. I like the idea in some regards, and I can see some directions to go with it, but I also feel like I've seen this before.
I would like to see what you would do with it, though. It does have potential.

Illumination by TheRealGreyboy 2014-12-21T05:34:00

...Unclear, I couldn't make it past the second level.
I do like the idea, though.
Please don't disable ratings entirely, though. The point is to gain feedback. You gain nothing by just disabling the ratings.

Panic Course by Thommy 2014-12-08T05:58:00

This was enjoyable. An expansion on this concept would go over well, I think.

Space Cube by lxd1 2014-12-21T05:27:00

Very unclear as to what is going on. Having a bit of text describing what everything is would be helpful.
Furthermore, using raycasting for collision detection would be a good move; I'm not sure you do. (Maybe you do and I can't tell.)
Regardless, give some indication of when the player hits the enemy. Make a particle spray or something that goes away after a moment. Something.
Nice graphics, though.

ATSS - A Typical Space Shooter by Groydis 2014-12-08T06:07:00

Very difficult to control. Hard to hit the enemies. This is partially just part of the game, though, so it's not that big a criticism, but it does seem to be a bit difficult.
Nice graphics, though.

Tiny Bit by A.W. Apps 2014-12-08T05:56:00

This is a great game. It's well polished (though it is a bit annoying how easy it is to hit a X block), with great graphics.
It's also a great take on the theme!
Well done!

Cyclic Clash by indigofiz 2014-12-08T18:41:00

I had a hard time understanding it. Instructions in the game itself might help a bit, with visuals. (I do know about the main screen having the cycle, but it's hard to remember.)

Snowman Builder by ianb96 2014-12-08T03:23:00

Yet another idle game. It's on one screen, but... Really?

Perhaps I'm being too harsh here, but I am fed up with idle games. There have been just so many of them recently.

Apart from that, the buttons are hard to read until you have enough to buy that item.

Greeny GRUB by pht59x 2014-12-29T22:51:00

The controls are difficult, but I don't actually hate them too much. They just take some getting used to. The game might be better if you improved them, though.
Sometimes the red circles were nearly impossible to see, though, which was really annoying.
Well done!

Swarmed by DonovanWu 2014-12-15T20:20:00

This was rather well done.
I think you could really expand upon the idea of selecting another dead robot as your new self. Such a game could be truly amazing.

BUG: Something happened with the 'double barrel' weapon, and I couldn't fire.

Crappy 3D Model House by InfiniteSoftCoal 2014-12-17T06:03:00

The controls were too difficult to use. You constantly slide all over. Furthermore, for this sort of game, I would recommend not having a time limit on finding an object, as checking just one level can probably take about 30 seconds in the first place. I feel it would be better as a more relaxed game, though you could have a timed mode if you wanted.

Cold Days Ahead by KrisDevelopment 2014-12-08T03:11:00

Very good art
Good music
Fits the theme

Does not have much in the way of innovation. Very bland, to be honest. You need to spend at least two actions every day, +fire and +wall, and then the remainder on hunting. Not much value in replaying, as there isn't anything you can do to help yourself survive, for all intents and purposes.

Grass crawl by island212 2014-12-26T01:03:00

I did figure out how to move, but not how to attack or do anything else.
Regardless, I do see potential in this. You just need to add instructions in order for it to be playable.

Space Guardian by Jonathan 2014-12-26T00:58:00

Why isn't audio a category for rating?
Apart from that, good game. It reminds me of MAD a bit.

Crush Quest by krakenRose 2014-12-26T00:53:00

It was a bit annoying to have to go back to the very beginning when I screwed up (even slightly).
However, this is a nice take on the theme, and the graphics are awesome.
Great job!

Space Roach Exterminator by stjahns 2014-12-08T07:37:00

Very well done! I really enjoyed the physics, and how they allowed for a unique type of gameplay, even though the basic gameplay is simplistic.
Roach party!

FISHERMANS FRIENDS by Pferd123 2014-12-26T00:45:00

Is there actually an ending if you properly input the code? I think I managed, but I might have made a typo somewhere. (I copied the code into notepad, and I can touch-type.)
Or is the 'a' at the end in a base other than 10?
Or is there no ending?
Regardless, I did enjoy it.

The Corporate Ladder by eyeofbri 2014-12-26T00:25:00

Good to know I could be the CEO of a company where my only job is to throw papers in the faces of employees who look away from their work for a moment.
Is that what I'm doing...?
Nothing really stands out as overly flawed. Good work.

Ninja Rain by fuzzalicious 2014-12-29T22:56:00

There needs to be an indication of when you get hit. Furthermore, the controls are too slippery to do much with, so it's difficult to get any of the crates.
However, the concept is solid, and I can see a great game here. It just needs some fine-tuning.
It also might work well on a mobile device, if you could come up with good controls.

Screen Escape by concalf 2014-12-08T21:27:00

Very well done, very innovative given the use of the theme, and well polished.
Great job!

Steve vs The Spinning Ballet Monsters! by staarland 2014-12-25T23:48:00

There isn't actually a point to putting up wood/sandbags, I tested it by putting everything on one window and the monsters came through just the same.
Even if there was a point to renforcement, you still need some way of getting more resources in order for this game to work.

Advanced Mayonaise by ZTO22 2014-12-26T00:17:00

Seems that there is just some error in the code which gives the wonky results with regards to your aim.
Good work for a first entry, though!

Klieu - Cargo Carrier by chipcaramel 2014-12-25T22:38:00

This seems to be unfinished, to put it plainly.
However, I can still see a great game in it. I like the idea, it sort of reminds me of FTL in some ways. I like the music too. However, it seems that it was too much to do in too short a time. Best of luck next Dare.

Nexus Elemental Wae by maurojones 2014-12-26T00:12:00

It feels like pure snowball wars. One side gets ahead, they win. End of story.
Part of the issue is that it seems that there isn't any counter-circle setup. (By which I mean, fire is weak to ice, ice is weak to earth, etc.)
However, an expansion on this concept could yield great results.

aMAZEing by mjp456789 2014-12-26T00:03:00

I like the idea, but some fine tuning is needed, particularly with the collisions.

Train your Jedi ! by jarry 2014-12-08T04:56:00

Well made. Reminds me of a game the I played... wow, ages ago.
Well done.

Keep Gamers Alive by cabul 2014-12-26T00:05:00

Crashes before I finish the first game. Has done so multiple times.

Oh, rats! by Andrea 2014-12-08T05:03:00

The controls are a bit frustrating for me. Going through single spaces is a bit clunky.
Good graphics and feel, though.

Standoff by nottoscalestudio 2014-12-25T23:59:00

For a game like this, you should give the player some indication of exactly where they're aiming. Otherwise it's impossible to ricochet accurately.

Robo Pusher by WaffleWorks 2014-12-08T04:10:00

Rather difficult to control.

Also, as a side note, the music was literally painful to listen to. The loud beeps in it forced me to turn it off.
As for a way to improve in that aspect, try making the music really soft, and then the user can increase the volume if they want to. Also, avoid really high pitches when dealing with straight tones, nobody likes those.

On a more positive note, I liked the idea of removing things from the screen, and I think it made good use of the theme.
Well done, and welcome to the LD.

Squadron Commander by Raxsus 2014-12-08T18:57:00

I really like the concept, could work well if it was multiplayer, or something along those lines.
I found it difficult to do too much, what with each ship (apart from the shielder) having only one life point. I'm not too sure what you could do for that, but it's something to think about.

AntiPlane by Grenac 2014-12-08T06:24:00

Only once have I seen terrain pop into existence.
Amazing game, I can't find anything wrong with it. (Per se)
Wow.

Do you want to kill a snowman? by Tunuko 2014-12-08T21:38:00

+1 for team noman.

Orion by gilead 2014-12-08T22:27:00

The level sometimes ends way too early. I would recommend a manual reload.
Apart from that, well done.

Mechanism by p1x3lruckus 2014-12-08T22:07:00

I like how the audio of the blocks moving is like the music for the game. It's very fitting.

Antimatter by Andynonomous 2014-12-08T03:44:00

Very slow at the start, and after about a minute or two, I finally reflected the first orb enough to get another. From there, it grew at an insane speed, getting more than a dozen on the screen at once in almost no time at all (by comparison to the beginning).
On the whole though, it's a pretty fun game. The art is nice, it fits the theme, well done.

Kaiser by oscarabraham 2014-12-27T01:16:00

Very hard. Maybe I'm just not good at it, but this game was insanely difficult for me (I didn't finish it, I just watched the playthrough =P).
However, it is a good game. I especially like the artwork. Well done.

ROCKROCKET by Backterria 2014-12-13T21:05:00

Amazing job for a first game.

Red Repair by Red Sigma 2014-12-29T20:47:00

I didn't quite get it at first, but I understood it pretty quickly.
Great job, not much to say that hasn't been said.
Though one thought is that it might do well to add in choices that are more moral-based, forcing the player to either try to be a white knight or a cold, calculating commander, who only needs to get through the mission.

Project 327 by jn327 2014-12-08T18:45:00

The idea is good, but it isn't too well refined. That's mostly just because of the time limit, and given that, it is good.
It seems too easy to run into things. Showing collision might help.

Fireflies by Kroq9Gar 2014-12-08T21:48:00

I like the AI. They actually seem natural. With a small bit of work, they could be fantastic.

As a side note, increase the max number of pixel lights in the 'quality' window. That will help.

E.R.A.S. by 5 2014-12-17T05:57:00

Fun, but for some reason I couldn't replace certain cables. Furthermore, it would be nice to see where cables used to be, via some faded-out cable over an eaten cable.

Cosmic Escape by neil.devan 2014-12-17T03:19:00

Broken. Please fix, it looks interesting.

Spacebank Heist by BoxedMeatRevolution 2014-12-18T22:29:00

I feel that it was a little difficult to do much of anything, especially with enemies that took more than one hit to kill, given there is no stealth aspect. Being able to plant bombs and not have everyone run away unless someone sees you would be nice.

Play Space Outvaders by woodecker 2014-12-08T05:11:00

That moment when you first get zoomed out... I was laughing hard enough I lost almost all the stages right away.
On the whole, well done.

Snowma'am by udo 2014-12-10T19:46:00

It's slow. The art and sound are nice, but it is REALLY slow.
I think the issue stems from trying to mix turn based strategy with real time strategy.

Space Cargo by Skoggy 2014-12-08T04:39:00

The graphics are absolutely beautiful, especially for a LD compo. The gameplay does get a bit tedious, though.

Space Inquisitor by SarahFrisk 2014-12-08T05:42:00

Well done, though you can't actually run out of fuel (I was at -30% by the end).
Great artwork, by the way.

Strikethrough by Ian Morrison 2014-12-08T07:51:00

Fantastic graphics and gameplay!

My only complaint is the controls. Why enter? Using X or something similar would have worked better, as it wouldn't be so foreign.
Maybe something entirely different? I don't know... It's just weird the way it is now.

The X of Y by Homletmoo 2014-12-08T03:15:00

Mostly breaks down to walking a lot. I assume there is no way to fight back, only move, making the gameplay rather bland.
However, I did enjoy the random generation and the names. These are the saving grace of the game, making you want to play again, just to see what you get.
The art and music were also nice.

spy race by celsyum 2014-12-25T23:52:00

Making an engine from scratch with multiplayer can't be easy. Well done.
Unfortunately, there isn't exactly a game. =\
Understandable, given the time limit, and how you did make it from scratch, but still.

Faction War by matthewj234 2014-12-17T02:31:00

Broken link. Please fix.

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Ballast by DestLocke 2015-04-25T06:36:00

I like the concept, and you make it work rather well. A few things/ideas/nags:
1.) The game didn't fit on my screen. And I have a large screen. This should be fixed.
2.) I would recommend you play around with the gravity. This would make it so the balls didn't float around so much. Might not improve the game, though.
3.) The game is actually really easy once you get the hang of it. Maybe have the difficulty increase over time to some extent?
4.) I'm not sure what the unconventional weapon is. You aren't exactly a weapon in the game, as your description implies. I just don't get it.

Overall, though, well done!

Failed Experiment by Halleflux 2015-04-21T22:21:00

I blame Unity Web GL for that. I'll upload something soon that should fix that.
Thanks, though.

Online Retro Shooter by Animated 2015-04-28T06:22:00

Currently I'm unable to connect. It would be great to do so, though, it looks like a sweet game! I also really like the idea of it alternating between FFA and coop mode.

Shadows by Jaloko 2015-04-23T06:48:00

Fantastic lighting. I really need to learn how to do that...

Missile War by Bloodyaugust 2015-04-25T06:24:00

Are you continuing to develop the game regardless of the dare being over? I'm just noticing the source files have been modded recently.
(This isn't to accuse you are cheating or anything, I'm genuinely curious as to what you are doing; the game looks like it might be fun.)

Android Runner by @JohnNWFS by johnnwfs 2015-04-25T01:54:00

Black flickering screen obscures everything.

Android Runner by @JohnNWFS by johnnwfs 2015-04-25T02:00:00

Black flickering screen obscures everything on web version.
Apart from that, the controls are hard to handle, and the tutorial is hard to read.
Although it [the ship] is an interesting twist on the general runner idea.

Decay by InvertedSaint 2015-04-27T05:05:00

Solid.

Rococcat by aidarbek 2015-05-04T06:12:00

For a first try, this is well done.
Right now, the biggest issue is that it is unclear what we are supposed to do. Putting up text for a few seconds explaining the controls would go a long way.
Well done, though!

LD33 — You are the Monster

Monster Living in A Cave Terrorizes Nearby Village! by Unentokku 2015-08-24T06:26:00

I only had one encounter, and the game then just sat there. Judging from the comments, this isn't normal, so I figured I'd let you know.

Blob by RadioLemon 2015-08-24T05:04:00

It's difficult to multitask between upgrading organs (as that requires click spamming) and growing (as that requires click spamming).
However, overall, it's a solid game. I like the idea and the execution. It just needs a little more polish. Great job!

Colossus Guard by VampyVampire 2015-08-24T04:38:00

Great graphics!
The gameplay is simple, but it has a good mood to it. The whole time, you know you're going to die, it's just a matter of how much can you do before that, and the gameplay reinforces that rather well.
Well done!

A Long Night by guoboism 2015-08-29T05:54:00

Really good gameplay. Felt smooth, though I feel it was to strategy based to make a real-time game out of it.. maybe it's just me, though.
I liked that for some of the puzzles, there was more than one solution.
I could see this as a mobile game, using swipes instead of arrow keys. Give it a try, see how it feels.
Well done!

Those Dirty Colonists by mactinite 2015-08-24T05:22:00

I agree with the statement that this was a bit too ambitious. Games like these require long periods of careful testing, which just isn't possible in a 48 hours period of time.
The game is probably possible, but without knowing exactly how to do it, one can't win. This is a common issue: the developer is really good at the game, but other people will be unable to do pretty much anything unless they dedicate a huge amount of time to it.
Basically, if you think something is fairly easy, it probably isn't to anyone else.

However, all in all, I liked the concept. I also liked the take on the theme. You aren't intentionally being a monster, it's just a byproduct of development.
Well done!

Possessive by PeculiarCarrot 2015-08-25T01:09:00

Difficult, I think refining of the possesion mechanic would be the best way to fix that. Right now it's random at best.
Also, maybe if guards couldn't spot you (or only some could), but they needed cameras to point you out... I think that would set it more towards a puzzle game, rather than an action game.
Fun to play, works well, well done!

Aye The Destroyer by zanenga 2015-08-24T02:55:00

I literally laughed out loud when the planet became the eye-monster.
I like the controls and camera a lot, they flow well.
Graphics are all good.
Gameplay I find a bit weird, and it's a very difficult game. There are a lot of enemies and they come at you very quickly.
On the whole, a great entry. Well done!

Aye The Destroyer by zanenga 2015-08-24T21:19:00

Hey again,
I did figure out how to move without the instructions, but I should note that only this time around did I actually figure out that I could hold down the mouse button to fire.

Dungeon Feeder by orukinawa 2015-08-24T02:40:00

I have always enjoys this sort of gameplay, and this does it rather well, if it is a bit limited by scale. It's fun while it lasts =)
Although I will say that I'm pretty sure it becomes impossible after a short time, which could be fixed by a larger scale. (Which by the looks of the "coming soon", you have planned =D)
On the whole, I like it. Well done!

Manster Ltd by burjandedy 2015-08-25T02:09:00

A bit buggy, but for a first game, this is amazing!
I liked the character swapping as a mechanic, and you used some of the doors that that opened for you.
Really, very well done! Welcome to Ludum Dare!

A Game Where You Are ANY Monster by Saphyre 2015-08-25T05:28:00

Interesting, but it would be cool if there was a difference between each monster. It's a lot of work, but it would be REALLY cool. Apart from that, it's still interesting, and I like the style you have going here.
Well done!

Misunderstood by catchthefloaty 2015-08-24T03:02:00

I think I remember you from the IRC channel =P
Well done, your game turned out well.
I like how it managed to be funny, but still held the mood well, so it actually felt a bit like a mystery. I think with a bit more work, it could actually make a very good game! (Not to say that it isn't good. It is good. Partly I'm talking about outside of the dare =P)

I'm not sure if it's my computer, but the game lags intermittently.

Razed by kewleus 2015-08-24T21:26:00

The issue is that there isn't any way to counter the missiles. They don't run out of ammo, and while you can land on them to destroy them, there isn't really anything you can do vs. several around the planet. It would be neat if there was some way to get rid of them beyond that.
However, it's still a fun, good looking game with a nice soundtrack. What's not to like?
Well done!

Consume by Rocketship 2015-08-24T23:21:00

Fantastic mood. It would been cool if there was a story slowly revealed over the time that you play. Well done!

Star Savior by unnamed1334 2015-08-25T00:40:00

A very interesting story. Well done.

..Yeah, I don't have much else to say. It's really very well done.

Is there a way to complete the last level, or do you just die?

Opportunity Cost by BlockyFish 2015-08-25T01:41:00

I really couldn't figure out how to make a good profit. Good idea, but I really couldn't figure out how to do much of anything.
It has a lot of potential, though, if you were willing to do some fine-tuning.
Also, I love the setting.
Well done!

Damage Control by peterkirk 2015-08-24T04:14:00

I like the idea, but the all the areas are too claustrophobic to really do well in the game. Roaring was only useful on occasion, and could end up ramming people right into you if they bounced off of a nearby wall.
The fourth level was almost entirely luck based. Unless you came up with a mechanic to make the people cower in fear, there isn't much you can do to fix that.
I liked how the music slowed down with the time remaining. A very nice touch.

On the whole, while it needs some refining, it is a good idea, executed reasonably well.
Well done!

YouAreTheMonster by KaiseanGames 2015-08-25T08:37:00

Interesting. I don't have the patience to go through the whole thing, though, sorry. =\
I could see this being a cool puzzle game, though. (it already it, I'm just talking about a post compo version too.)
It also looks really nice.
Well done!

Tenebris Morte by FerraWare 2015-08-24T03:44:00

It would be nice if there were a speed up option, e.g. press spacebar.
I really like the literal branching paths, though. Very well done.
It would be nice if there was more of a difference between monsters and locations, other than the text you get. (Unless there is and I don't know what it is =P)

Tenebris Morte by FerraWare 2015-08-24T03:50:00

By the way, you can't play again without reloading the page. Just thought you should be aware of that.

Loki In the 27 th and a 1 / 2 Century by liquidmedia 2015-08-25T01:19:00

I don't really understand what the point is, but cool ship/whateveritis =P
Also, you have some... interesting... audio. It's cool too =P
Well done!

Combover Monster Campaign Manager by andyman404 2015-08-24T06:54:00

Does it seem to anyone else that this game is a bit trumped up?

Also, the wall wouldn't work. Mexico would start sending their olympic pole vaulting drug dealing rapists at us.

The Core by ferdbold 2015-08-24T03:14:00

..Nearly impossible =\
Apart from that, very fun. I like the quick gameplay, though I feel that a few minor things here and there could be changed to make it better. (Just tinker around with things and get a few playtesters.)
Graphics are good, audio... eh, I like the mood of it, it feels a bit like a death star run or something like that. Music could really seal that in.

One word of advice: You are very good at your game. Others will find what you find easy, VERY difficult.

Oh, and I found the secret ending that may or may not be there. ;)

Very well done!

The Core by ferdbold 2015-08-24T03:16:00

Oh, and I should bring up that is seems to be based on getting lucky to an unfortunate degree. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would help that, but if I think of something, I'll let you know.

Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum by Justin Stahlman by stahlmanDesign 2015-08-24T04:55:00

The beanstalks are very hard to climb.
Overall feels a bit clunky.
And yet I still love smashing Jack.
Well done! =)

MonsterCorp by EwChap 2015-08-24T05:28:00

A bit confusing, but very fun. It would be cool to have randomized options, and be able to make multiple in a day, but it's still a ball to play. Very funny, great take on the theme, overall a great game. Well done!

Revenge by azokal 2015-08-24T23:13:00

I liked this concept. I think it would be funner if you could chose your boss, or had multiplayer. (There's a fun idea for you =3)
Overall, a fun game that is a nice take on the theme. Well done!

The Stars are Watching by Xanderzoo 2015-08-25T00:55:00

Fun to play, though the controls are annoying. Sure it's realistic that ships don't slow down in space without another force applied to them, but it's also realistic that they can't accelerate given that there isn't anything there =P
Basically, having a max velocity would be nice.
Overall, it's a cool game. Well done!

AM I? by DruhinM 2015-08-25T07:49:00

You know, I think I want that motorbike just because it can ram into multiple objects and not be broken.
Not because want to smash people, but just for study. Think of the advancements we could make by studying such and indestructible material! =P
Fun to play, good looking.
Well done!

Lure.Lair.Lunch by daveh 2015-08-24T22:43:00

A lot of trial and error is involved, and it's a bit slow when you're doing it over for the third time =P
However, I really like the idea. Well made, theme inspired, and good looking. Well done!

-=SPACE RAM=- by nicksantan 2015-08-25T07:17:00

The controls were very difficult, it felt like trying to herd a group of elephants that just wanted to stand around doing nothing.
However, the concept is a lot of fun, and I always enjoy a game that lets me eat entire planets =3
Well done!

The Pit by Fatal. 2015-08-24T23:29:00

There are a few issues, but for a first game, this is great. I would recommend making it possible to kill the enemies without having to get in the pits they spawn in; e.g. put platforms outside of them that are positioned so you can shoot into the areas they are.
Well done!

Shadow of the Monster by jaksa76 2015-08-29T06:52:00

The graphics are good, and the gameplay has a solid foundation.
One issue is that the gameplay actually got annoying to the point where I quit, I think it was level 6. There was this one spot, and I had no idea how to get past it.
Also, I would recommend you do something with the lights/particles on the creatures to make the colors more clear. If you have to have text saying what color an enemy is, you've done something wrong =\
All in all, though, it's a good game. Well done!

Mutant Snakopede by TLansdale 2015-08-28T20:57:00

A fun game, but the battles are long and... well, dull. While an interesting mechanic, burrow in a of itself doesn't hold up the game enough. It's a great start, but adding in something else is needed in order to really make the game engaging.
(Don't get me wrong, it's fun, it just gets a bit boring after level 2, as there isn't really anything new at that point; any new enemies are still one hits, shoot at you, etc, to my knowledge.)
Also, it was tedious to restart from the beginning, rather than the level you were on. It just takes a long time.
Apart from that, the graphics were good, the animations were good, I really did like the burrow mechanic, overall it's good.
Well done!

Dead Code by jmschrack 2015-08-29T06:26:00

The graphics are absolutely amazing. It's really hard to believe that you managed to do all that in 52 hours. Well done!
It's unfortunate that the camera and the lights don't work too well, it's hard to see any of the detail you put into the textures and animations. =\
Unfortunately, the game beyond that kinda falls apart. You have a good premise, but the AI is weird, the controls (and again, camera) are difficult... It's just hard to do anything.
I would recommend raising the ambient lighting some and making your camera and controls solid, and work from there. I'd look forward to a post-mortem!
Well done, for 52 hours =P

Dead Code by jmschrack 2015-08-29T06:26:00

Oh, and the robot fell down. I think it was just after attacking.

Small People Problems by Brainfreezeman 2015-08-25T08:46:00

Amazing game. Fantastic graphics, smooth gameplay, had skill involved (to dodge the bomb guy), good audio, the works.
Well done! A great pleasure to play.

Boss Roobot by darkpaw 2015-08-24T03:19:00

I like the graphics. The gameplay is a bit slow, though.
Either way, a fun idea. =)

The Empty by fdslk 2015-08-25T00:56:00

See posts before this one =P

I hope you get it working. It looks cool.

Abduction by SudoDave 2015-08-24T03:30:00

I love the gameplay, and the AI is pretty much spot on. A great joy to play. =)
Well done!

There was lag when I rotated the ship, was a bit annoying.

The Last Demon by 9.ar7k 2015-08-24T04:49:00

Rather challenging, but I found myself getting bored after the first two levels. Just not my type of game, to some extent.
Overall, though, it's still a good game. Good graphics, sounds well done.. yeah, it's good.
Well done!

Tales of the Memory Dragon by raducumiczzz 2015-08-24T22:52:00

Difficult, and a bit buggy. I would recommend that only the closest bird gets eaten. Also, I would recommend that the heads only swap positions when there are no birds, and the birds come faster. Think of it a bit like a bird-eating guitar hero.
I also noticed that some birds weren't on screen when they got eaten, which was confusing. (e.g. I try to eat the red bird right next to me, and some other bird gets eaten.)
Those are just a few ideas that I had, I don't know if they would help or not, but there you go.
Overall, fun to play, great graphics, and very peaceful. Well done!
Oh, and welcome to Ludum Dare! Always great to see a fresh face around! =)

Destroy The Love by Madsj 2015-08-24T21:28:00

Very difficult, but fun to play. One of the only games I've seen made in Gamemaker that is actually good. Well done!

Dude, Stop by Patomkin 2015-09-06T00:59:00

My only real issue is that some of these require knowledge of certain things (e.g. Uno (I think?)), and if you don't know what the source material is, you can't get the joke, or even what you're supposed to do.
Other than that, this is a good, funny interpretation of the theme. Well done!

The Hosts by Warxen 2015-08-25T01:33:00

I made a game like this one last time, and it turned out worse than this one, in my opinion. On the whole, solid mechanics, though I would say you should probably fine tune the combat some, if you want that as a focus, or the stealth, if you want that as a focus.
I also like the graphics, good style for a 3D LD.
Well done!

Greetings, Human by boardtobits 2015-08-24T04:24:00

I like it. Very like Papers Please, which I also liked. Having longer talks with each of the ten members, while having to keep in mind you manners throughout would improve the game, in my mind.
All in all, well done.

Abominable by Cosmic5 2015-08-29T06:08:00

Interesting.
The graphics are as good as I've seen for LD.
The story.. I want to know more. I'm sad that you didn't get to finish it. =\
Beyond that, once I figured out where my inventory was, it's a solid point and click adventure.
The music cut out after a bit, (still in apartment), and didn't start again. No sound at all, if there was anything else.
Well done!

The Promethean Monster by evandaley 2015-08-24T21:42:00

Has a lot of potential. I'd like to see some expansion on the creation mechanic, maybe make it tied to killing or destroying other blocks. Has a lot of room for improvement, but it was a joy to play a peaceful game like this. Well done!

HAIL - Humans Are Ill Lived by RiverAndRun 2015-08-25T02:46:00

Very difficult, but a rewarding game.
It would be nice if I didn't have to start over if I died. I also would like to have better feedback on if I got hit/hit them beyond the same sound playing for either. Also, it would be nice to know how they damage me, (as in, is it their mouth, something they make, etc.), as it was very unclear.
Amazing graphics. Seriously, this is about as good as they come for LD.
Well done indeed!

Corruption by MapleQuest 2015-08-25T02:32:00

I liked your interpretation of the theme. I found it cool that the monster kept evolving as you died, though it didn't really go anywhere, from what I could tell.
The controls are a little weird, though. Also, I had no idea where I was supposed to be going, though I did finish the game.
Great graphics, too. =)
Well done!

Jelly Terror by Virtualwindow 2015-08-25T04:48:00

Graphics look good, but multiplayer games entered into the LD all have the same issue... Nobody stays around long enough the play =\
The controls were a bit difficult too, figured I should bring that up. The graphics are amazing for the 72 hour time limit, though.

bloody tentacles by zuurr 2015-08-25T01:14:00

Doesn't work with Chrome for me. Just doesn't show up =\

bloody tentacles by zuurr 2015-08-25T08:54:00

I am glad that I came back to this entry. That is some REALLY cool stuff going on there. Did you use GPU acceleration, or are the the tentacles just particles/something similar?

You are the Meteor by flyinpancake 2015-08-24T02:30:00

I hope more people join in on this, maybe with some sort of chat along with it. It seems like a really fun idea.

The Stowaway by BuffaloPhil 2015-08-24T02:47:00

I love this entry. I personally really like stealth games, and this one is just simple enough and polished very well.
Admittedly, I have always wanted to make a game like this, but I don't know how to do an FPS, and have had a hard time learning how. (A lot of it is the graphics.) =\

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Hyperspace by dekart 2015-12-14T05:49:00

Nice concept. I've only seen games based on 'two button game' go with movement based controls so far, so this is a refreshing breath of fresh air. Well done!

Space Warrior by JanGames 2015-12-14T04:17:00

A fun concept, but it gets to be a bit of a drag given that you move slowly and can't control where your other ships go. I think you would have been better off just going with either two button controls or growing. I ended up dying due to one of my ships getting destroyed (even though I had 4 of them), and it was rather frustrating because I felt like I couldn't really do anything about it.
Overall, both ideas have potential, you just needed to pick between one them and then refine them instead of trying to merge both.

AirC.A.T by TsFreddie 2015-12-14T03:54:00

Really creative way of dealing with such a limiting theme. Great graphics, solid gameplay, (though it takes a bit to get used to the controls), nice sounds, the works. Amazing job!

grow by shaulor 2015-12-14T05:35:00

A bit small, but I think I'm going to have this open for a while on my desktop ^.^

Snake Blaster by A.W. Apps 2015-12-14T03:47:00

Solid gameplay. I liked having multiple types of ammo to play with. Great graphics, too, with fitting sounds. Not much to say beyond that.
Doesn't fit any of the themes, though.

Laser Dodge by QuexD 2015-12-14T03:39:00

Well made! I enjoyed the tilting of the screen, although it would also be interesting if that also affected gravity. I would play around with that some.
I also liked that you had perks that were all useful (well, debatable, but mostly) but also weren't the same thing. Very good design choice.
Other than that, solid dodge gameplay. Technically three buttons, but I'm going to cut you slack on that, given that 'two button game' is really far too limiting.

Need For Seed: Undergrowth by RhythmLynx 2015-12-14T04:23:00

The basic idea is very solid, but it was almost entirely luck based. I kept feeling like I never had any chance of doing anything in it, which isn't a good feeling to have.
Beyond that, though, solid graphics, nice sounds, and a good job implementing both themes rather well.
Great work!

Attack of the Vikings by terryg 2015-12-29T01:39:00

Rather difficult game play, but nice music.

Strafe Showdown by siege 2015-12-14T05:03:00

Neat idea, though it might give some people a bit of motion sickness. The different characters are nice, and I like that it isn't a rock-paper-scissors setup for character selection.

By the way, did you actually play through the whole of my game? If not, DO. From your comment, I get the feeling you played the first sixty seconds or so and assumed the game never moved on from that.
If you have played through the whole game, do tell me, because I'm trying to convey certain things and if literally none of them come across, then I've done some things very badly, and need to learn from that.
Hope you get back to me at some point.

Strafe Showdown by siege 2015-12-14T05:56:00

Alright, thanks for your re-review of my game. I guess I'm just completely inept at making anything that tries to have any depth.

HUNGRY BEAST by bazz_boyy 2015-12-14T05:43:00

For a first LD, this is awesome mate. It's fun to actually feel like a monster, which, yeah, you do in this =)
Great work!

Feed Me by snowshovelboy 2015-12-14T03:59:00

Nice job having three controls with two buttons ^.^
Not to mention (except that I'm about to) you managed to fit both themes!
Very well done!

LD35 — Shapeshift

shapeshift beat by Allov 2016-04-18T04:06:00

Congratulations on your first completion!
It's a fun concept, with lots of potential.

A few things I would add: a way to select what shape you want to be, apart from cycling (as in a 1-2-3 for triangle-square-whateveritwas). Changing up the terrain from a flat line would work well too.

Apart from that, the graphics are minimalistic but solid, the songs are nice, and it's just a fun game to play. Well done!

On a side note: for my game, on the third level, you need to be the same 2D shape as the object you want to go to in order to swap to it. Please try again, once you get that the game is a lot more fun! =)

Transformagician by HuvaaKoodia 2016-04-18T02:22:00

For the most part, well done! I really liked the art, and it's nice to see some more attempts at 48 hour stealth games. I think the idea of shapeshifting into different objects to evade enemies is a good one.
However, it's not that useful. The enemies move slowly around the map, so it's annoying to wait for them to pass by and form an opening, (and other type of enemy can walk up and eat you =P), and once the enemies see you, you can't really pull it off.
There's a balance to be struck, and it's not an easy one to strike. I commend you for the effort you put into this.
Well done!

Space Junk by Wekaj 2016-04-18T03:12:00

Great art, neat gameplay. I lasted for a bit over two minutes before I gave up.
The pause function allows you to reshape a little too much, which, if someone were willing, would allow a player to survive for a really long time just by shifting stuff around a lot.
I might recommend that it be a short-term pause, so you can't reorganize everything. Would make the game really interesting and intense. (Well, more so.)
Very well done!

Graveyard Shift by Garrett Hoofman 2016-04-18T04:14:00

Interesting idea, but it's a touch underwhelming due to the fact that you can win without using any of the cards. An action card game is an interesting concept, but I feel it could benefit from a few brief moments of non-action so people to allow planning. This could lead to being able to select cards in a strategic way, which opens a lot of doors for cards.

However, given that this was a 48 hour contest, no points off for not managing that. =P

Apart from that, the graphics are nice, and the gameplay is still fun, which is why I wish it was a bit more fleshed out. It does have potential as an idea, though! =)
Well done!

On a side note: for my game, on the third level, you need to be the same 2D shape as the object you want to go to in order to swap to it. Please try again, once you get that the game is a lot more fun! =)

Geo Shift by rantt 2016-04-18T03:02:00

Possible bug: You start out with being able to shrink down. Not sure if the was intended.

Simple, but still well made graphics.

Apart from that, solid platformer with basic, but still neat, mechanics. Well done!

OBfu by zowesiouff 2016-04-18T06:44:00

An interesting concept, but it's been made far too frustrating to play well. I got up to level 8 before giving up. A big part of this is that you have to replay the previous level before you get another shot at the new one, which is completely unnecessary, and only serves to alienate the player in the end.
Apart from that, though, it really is a neat idea. I see plenty of potential in it, all you need to do is some refinement.
I really like the graphical style, too.
Overall, well done!

PacShifter by jcmonkey 2016-04-18T03:27:00

Nice concept, but I couldn't get past level 5. I understand that games with no leniency with their timing and motions have some appeal, but that is just too brutal.
Apart from that, nice graphics and gameplay. The music is a bit repetitive, but stays in the background.
Well done!

Shape Shifter - Disco Labyrinth Inferno by treegemmer 2016-04-18T05:32:00

Fun game, you've done some neat stuff with the physics in Unity. Even though it's mostly doing the same thing over and over, you managed to make it still rather interesting. Well done!

Little Girl by adamprack 2016-04-18T02:38:00

Amazing job! The art, sound, and gameplay are impressive, to say the least. I feel like the controls were slightly clunky at times, and I died at several points without really knowing why, but those issues weren't too significant.
Easily a contender for one or more first places. Well done!
