Loved this. Very atmospheric, perfect colours. Would love to play more but it's a great piece as is.

Having the same color for multiple things is a little confusing
Thanks very much for the feedback everyone!
@dickpoelen - The zoom took AGES
@dadman - Cameron spent the whole jam animating, glad you can tell :)
@borgi - Thank you!
@adrenalinehigh_Jam - Toby did all the environment artwork and has the current high score of 3458!
@arhpositive - I (Connor) sucked for ages, eventually it just kind of 'clicks'
Again, thank you!
@SkyWolf - Thanks, seems like general consensus is it's way too hard, good to know!
@nerd burglars - Glad you like it :)
@TeamQuadratic - Takes a long time for it to 'click', probably too long for a LD game
@Rage Paint - Thank you very much, the deer gave Rachel no end of problems...
@xxmicloxx - Cheers :)
@cstudios - That's very kind of you. Originally each character was just going to be a creature suited to that world, with the fox belonging to the forest world. The creature for the fire world was going to be a komodo dragon or monitor lizard, but Cameron realised the run cycle would look boring, so we moved the fox to the fire world and added the deer. That's when the idea of each creature being the 'spirit animal' for their world took hold
@BroCade - Thanks!
@kibertoad - Cheers, RUA was an influence on the project
@elefantopia - Thank you :)
@mystakin - Thanks, there's now a post about the view shifting here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2014/09/09/world-transitions-manipulating-viewports-in-spirit-shift/
Super impressive
Very nicely written. Some minor typos and grammatical errors but they really don't matter when the story is so good
@KingGames thanks for letting me know. Apparently browsers are dropping support for plugins, meaning Unity Web Player is being phased out (to be replaced with WebGL). It works on Chrome for me though, I've got Windows 7 but I don't know if that matters
@Gamepopper There already is gamepad support (up to 4 Xbox 360 controllers, it's the recommended way to play). If the controller isn't already plugged in when the game starts it usually won't find it though.
Thanks for feedback so far everyone!
Ok, I've updated to Unity 5 so I could do a WebGL build. Seems to all be working but I've not been able to test more than 1 Xbox 360 controller with the HTML5 version, in theory it should work with up to 4 as it did before. Hopefully it'll all run fine in Chrome now :)
Really great game. Had the same bug as @Sedsibi though where level 3 didn't end when I killed all the humans, eventually I lost once all my aliens hit the bottom of the screen. I thinks it's because I killed both humans with one of the bomb aliens? Tried it twice but same thing happened, haven't been able to kill both humans with a normal alien on that one yet to see if it's the bomb ones in particular
Very beautiful and the reactive music sounds incredible. The controls for the swarm have just the right balance between fine movement and the unpredictability of a large group. Very well done!
This feels like a complete game, very well done indeed. The 'hand-made' sound effects are great, visual style is very nice and clean. My only suggestions are that I'd like to be able to cancel an attempt once I know it's gone wrong (especially on longer levels), and that it's frustrating to not know which yellow dots allow 3 arrows so it would be nice if it was indicated somehow (perhaps make them orange?). Overall it's really great, I'd encourage you to continue with this!
I really love the music!
This is pretty cool, I like that you did different environments. One thing I would suggest is some kind of warning or highlight, or larger and more discrete variations in size; there were several times where I was damaged by something just slightly larger than me that I thought I could eat.
Wow, you *really* nailed the aesthetic, well done! The art and especially the audio are really great and complement each other very well.
For the actual gameplay, I quite like it. I like how instantly you can restart, it feels good (again great audio work too). It does get a little frustrating at times though, especially when I land on or in front of something that kills me, with no way of knowing it was there. Killing goons when you land on them would help, not sure what you can do about landing right in front of a car though. I also want to be able to jump out of a dash. Other than that, it's really great! Good job :)
This is really nice :)
I like that there isn't a goal or anything, you just make your little forest however you like.
44.63 seconds. Avoid dots, if you hit dots it makes the centre bigger, which hides dots for longer making them harder to avoid... Clever! Good loop there.
I really like the graphics and camera movement. The controls are also really well thought-out.
Hilariously frustrating, good job!
Unforgivingly fast, but really pretty.
Really nice. Simple but effective, really nice art+sound too
Clever, simple gameplay with very nice audio and art to make a it really solid experience all round. Good job!
Took a while to get the hang of the controls but it was alright after that. Audio is pretty good and I like art ;)
Boss fight and cutscene at the end were cool too. Good job!
Thank you for making this, and thank you for sharing. Best of luck <3
Absolutely gorgeous and well written too. Really enjoyed it.
Really cool use of the themes and a nice tactile feeling to all the buttons, dials and switches.
Really excellent combination of gameplay, art and sound. Very nice!
Brutally difficult but it seems like a good idea and the music wasn't bad! Congrats on your first LD
I don't understand what's happening :(
Could you put instructions in the description?
Nice to see an interactive L-system, pretty cool
Really nice! I kept dying to things I thought should've been fine until I noticed the red outline. Really enjoyed it after that.
Music was really nice and the little faces were cute, but I couldn't understand the control scheme at all - it seemed really inconsistent. It seems like a cool game but I can't really play it :(
This is lovely! They both have so much personality, the cat is especially funny. Thank you :)
Fun gameplay, beautiful pixel art and cool music+sfx. I especially like all the little details. Great job!
Really good, the piano was a nice touch!
For a first game in just a few hours this is really good! Congrats, well done.
After a few false starts I had one good run, got 520. It's a very simple and effective mechanic, good job!
Very pretty! I like the frantic button mashing, especially when the clock is low. Getting a bigger bonus for completing a bigger ship is nice, but getting a small ship right at the end is much better because there's chance you might finish it in time. Maybe make it more likely for small ships when the timer is low? Overall I really like it, but like others have said it took a couple tries before I fully understood the controls.
Amazing, super impressed you did all that in just 48 hours! Love the art, sounds, npcs and the huge world. 124 deaths. If you do a post-jam version my only suggestions would be music and moving the checkpoints around a bit to be on the same screen as the nearest obstacle (e.g. the one to the right of crocodils and to the right of going batty would both be less annoying a few tiles further left). Great job!
Thanks for all the great feedback everyone!
@wrexialmt there are 6 exhibits in total and for each tour it picks 4 at random. You'll need to do multiple tours to see them all. Gonna update the description because I didn't make this clear, thanks for pointing it out!
Weird idea but it's pretty fun! My hiscore is 23 ('quite big')
Super cool! Really pretty (good palette, nice sprites) and the audio was pretty good too. My only complaint is that enemies take ages to die. Great work!
I like the idea and the control scheme. It'd be good to explain the cooking thing first though, I spent ages on my first tablet then overcooked and had to start again
Ah that was really cool! Nice job
Nice! Impressed by the AI, wasn't expecting them to go round the corners and continue attacking me!
Super interesting idea! As others have said, the puzzles are super hard at first but I really like the loop of solving a puzzle to get coordinates for the next one. I don't think you'll get away with using the unity web player for much longer though :P
Ah this is great! Brilliant control scheme, would love to try it multiplayer. Very pretty too and the sound effects are nice. Great job!
I like how many different ways you've used the cog mechanic. Really nice aesthetic too
Had a lot of lag on this for some reason, made the difficult control scheme really clunky. Interesting concept though, I think it might work better on a touchscreen than with a mouse
Gorgeous pixel art, would love to see a post-compo version
What a great game! Such a clever combination of mechanics. The physics on the ship is *perfect* and I love how the ore is physics driven as well, brilliant loop of blasting through ore then having to chase it down. The audio and art are really nice and support each other and the gameplay really well. Excellent entry!
The general vibe of this is really nice. Controls were confusing at first but got the hang of it, my major issue is that it's a resource management game where you can only see your resources hidden in a menu. There's a lot of good things going on but it's all just a bit frustrating trying to buy things and not knowing how much of things you have. Similarly for making things in the alchemy lab, I can't see how much of each resource I have and kept forgetting how many of each thing I needed and how many I had already made.
The death cutscene was brilliant btw, great music for it too.
Pretty cool! The controls feel really tight, I like the little bit of knockback from firing the gun so you can't just stand still and spam fire. I found it difficult to predict where enemies will move up or down, most of my deaths were because of that. In Super Crate Box for example an enemy always falls down at the first gap they encounter, so it's very predictable.
Excellent game! You nailed the platforming, it feels *really* good just to jump around. I really like the mechanic too, very inventive interpretation of the theme. I wanted to see if you can explore every area and beat the game without ever resetting the camera and you totally can :) ants.png
*Service Update 04/12/2017: Some employees have reported issues with dragging the mouse in the web player. These issues should now be resolved. Desktop builds for Windows, Mac and Linux have also been provided for your convenience. Thank you for working at Complicity Inc.*
Fantastic game, I really love it! You've got the weights of things just right, it's very satisfying to throw a shape into orbit and have it fall down right where you wanted. Really enjoyed how pleasant the visuals are.
I'm not sure if you're supposed to be able to complete levels when different chains of shapes overlap? Like two triangles are connected and two circles are connected and those connections overlap to form an X. I chose to play as if that weren't allowed as I found it more fun to try and get every chain fully connected and separate.
Ah, thank you so much for making this game! It's so lovely and cute and positive, it put me in a much better mood. Cutscene, models, gameplay, wording, sound effects all adorable. Music was great. Impressive amount of level design and mechanics. I love it!
Very very cool! The variety and humour in the curses is fantastic, great job!
This is pretty cool and impressive, I'd be interested in a post-jam version! A few small things: - Having to double-tap to move was annoying. I know a single tap lets you change the direction you're facing, but that's only relevant horizontally and didn't seem to matter anyway since enemies don't automatically attack if you're adjacent. - The flood timer wasn't very obvious, the first few times I died I didn't understand why. Including in the death message what killed you (e.g. Spelunky) would help a lot. It would also be super cool if the dungeon visibly flooded so I had a visual indicator of my timer within the play area, I don't have to look away at UI. - If the dungeon is flooding, why am I climbing down to escape? ;)
Really great game! Not usually into clickers but this was fun enough that I played through to the end. cult_victory.png I was in the process of replacing the entire island with diamond buildings and could barely place them fast enough by the end. I do want to see a full island though...
Also btw there was a minor bug, I think I beat the game while placing a building and when I clicked Play Again it placed the building in the new game even though I hadn't unlocked it and couldn't afford it: cult_bug.png
cult_bug2.png
Ah this is a really great combination
@GoodKenneth great time! You actually _have_ set a new world record. You can reset through the PICO-8 pause menu accessed with Enter (I will add this to the description)
Amazing job!
<3
Very impressive
Very cool! Took a few tries before I could lead my shots but it's super satisfying when you get it right
