woh, really nice combination of text and sound. just a really good atmosphere. I was a bit frustrated with having so little control at the start, but it's alright in the end

woh, really nice combination of text and sound. just a really good atmosphere. I was a bit frustrated with having so little control at the start, but it's alright in the end
it looks pretty good and has some funny animations. the problem for me was mostly the controls. I wasn't too sure wether I was able pick up a seed, throw it away or stand in the right spot to water a seed. but when it worked out (there's some marge fortunately), it felt pretty satisfying. hearing to sound from the plant fruit or giving the man its deserved apple. it's a nice little world to play around in.
I got intrigued a bit when I found out I could extend the island into the void. but I don't think you can go anywhere with it yet. did you plan something for this?
I feel like everything in this game is mocking me. and I can only toot to express my anger.
seriously, great game. really funny and entertaining mechanic. and you executed well on it. I even finished the last level, and yeah, that took some time... but I enjoyed it. a lot of stars for you
amazing entry, one of the best I played so far. it feel really cohesive with the music art and gameplay. amazing for 72 hours. only thing I disliked are the controls. I was usable but it would've been more enjoyable with something like mouse and keyboard
the perfect compo entry. simple, yet unique idea with a great execution.
I love the whole mood with the music and the city just doing its thing. and at the same time you're just doing your thing as nature growing around alongside. from start to finish, really well done. you get all the stars
really hard to play. you can never react in time for the birds. if they moved way slower you could probably estimate how and when you should move upward
this does so many things right. my favourite LD game so far. you get all the stars for overall, innovation. fun, graphics, audio and mood. I just feel going with the arrowbuttons is an easy way out to go with the theme. but I guess that's more of a problem with the theme. anyway, it doesn't feel forced with using just 2 buttons and it controls really well. good job
woh I never like pinball game until now
theses snekklrs(?) actually feel scary. with that pointy mouth, red toungue, and red lines. were those red lines between the body pieces acually meant from the start? or was it just because the physics draws the parts apart and you needed something to connect them? anyway, it looks pretty cool. and there's quite a lot in the mechanics. like the part that get bloody and part of your body or mouth(/beak?) that fall of. fun to play around with that.
also that simple effect of the two squares popping out works really well. gonna remember that one.
I'm not sure if multiplayer is the best thing for this game (got no else around now to test it, so can't really judge), but I hope you continue working on it. then I also wonder if you should keep the 2 button presses for the munch then. I know it's for the theme here, but it would probably work better with an extra button.
anyway, curious to see where this goes.
I made 4 friends, how do you like that? k, there were 2 frogs. I like them more.
I'm glad the description says something about the 3 friends, else I would've thought there was not much to it. the first few minutes were still confusing though, but when I slowly found out how everything worked it was pretty satisfying. only things was that since everything was so close together, I had a hard time moving around.
I still don't get why I'm plucking friends from plants though. but it really doesn't matter. it feel looks great, phyisics great and animates well. well done
pretty fun! and the dying had me everytime lol. it's simple it feels good.
I do find it hard to keep the vertical momemtum after you used one grapple to adjust a bit. I can never get back to the momentum I had.
also I found it's pretty useful to switch from using both buttons at the same time and using them altenately. great execution on the theme.
the graphics look good, but I was really confused about the gameplay. eventually I got the jump+web mechanic. still it's unclear wether you will jump with or without a web string. and why not just always a string? (if you got it).
hey, I read your post on the analytics, pretty insightfull. so I gave it a go to see where I would end up.
the first few level went pretty well. the only thing is that the up arrow confused me a bit and for some time I thought pressing up would make me jump at those place (didn't always work obviously).
then I also had problems with the bees at level 5. I think me and a lot of players die here because of the sign. I tried to jump on the bees to kill them. I know, it makes no sense, I just thought the sign hinted at this. the bees visibility maybe also played a role. I didn't see them the first time I hit them.
then I stopped at level 8, because there were so many impressions. I think it's because of the sudden jump in pickups and the enormous walls with brown patterns covering almost the entire level.
I see not many people have left this one like me, but players leaving at level 6 could have the same reason also since you suddenly go from 1 to 3 floors.
I think it's a cool mechanics though and a creative use of both themes. you can create some nice options for them for puzzles or use them for timing and coordination like you did with the bees. it's just seems difficult to create multiple choices and make it interesting as a puzzle. you can make the level more complex but this will probably scare players. I think you gotta find a way to create more choices but not stump the player with it. visually or mechanicly.
it crashed to times for me at: "sometimes people are beautiful". I wanna see what happens:(
creative, but too hard for my brain >.<
great graphics, audio and mood wow. I did have some troubles with the controls. I think because it aligns itself. especially when I fly upside down and press up to go down it didn't work as expected.
a bit simple, but well I can't really judge for something made in 3 hours. still gonna do it:D
it's pretty hard to play. the sin function in the movement makes things things harder but not really more interesting. I also feel the collision is not always on point.
but wth I feel stupid for criticizing something that is made in that timespan. So hey you finished it, good job. I couldn't have done that
This game makes me happy. Great music, surprising variation in the levels and cool colors.
I thought it was gonna be another local multiplayer game where it would suck if you play on your own, but this is something else. I enjoyed.
at fist I was a bit confused about which I controlled and I also thought I couldn't hit any other lines. But as I found out, you just can. seeing this is so similar as tron gameplay-like, you probably should point out this is a bit different and you can actually go through the lines. Mabye more of a foreground/backgroud setup for the lines and leaves. the flower in the end is also super nice!
also, I like the white-ish level that is shrinking the most. I feel a this white-ish color works best together with all the colors and it looks nice when it's taking over the color space in this level.
I had some fun with it. the gameplay is not that interesting I must say, so I'm also not sure how long you would play this with friends. But for something in 72 hours, good job. also you make up for it with the level variation. it changes up gameplay a bit.
I get the idea and how it works with the theme. but really I can just hold LMB and dodge the red objects. too bad, cause I think it could've been fun changing colors around
Looks good and the gamelpay reminded me of floating point, just played that a few weeks ago.
The 2buttons controls where something to get used to and didn't feel intuitive at the start. After 2 minutes though, it somehow clicked and it becomes pretty satisfying. But when I think about it too much I just fail. It's weird.
I also discovered the point you click matters (could use some preview feedback). And I tried to left+right click and release at the same time, but then the grapple hook will still be out.
It's also not always obvious when you've hit something. You don't always hear a sound and because it keeps playing for a bit, you don't know.
I stopped at the level with the spike shapes though. I think it's the 4th at somepoint there's this one gap with a coin that I don't have to the patience for. I did discover losing your momemetum a bit and moving slowly through the levels helps a lot. Which I didn't expect for a rope swinging game.
I do like that it's made up of levels that asks various skills from you. after some time, swinging was satisfying and although it requires some slower precicion skill at some points (for me), it was still good.
Good job!
(and how much more levels are there?)
how do I start the game? I see a 100 files in the zip
nice concept and execution, especially for 48 hours. I liked the atmosphere and the plant aesthetic. really beautifull.
it's cool that you can regrow from other parts, but it felt a bit weird to first intentionally die for it. I also wasn't always sure if I would regrow or it would be death. when the levels got bigger it also got difficult to see where you need to go. maybe a more zoomed out camera would've worked or like it would zoom out over time, idk. despite of that, I enjoyed playing this
thanks for the feedback all!
@01010111 thanks! I've seen no tweets yet, but that's sortof expected. it would be a really weird and confusing tweet. but I found the idea hilarious, so I implemented it anyway.
@Manu & Wan haha, congrats with the perfect baby man! and thanks for the nice words
@phi thanks! I agree that the organ growing is a little weird. I worked like 10 hours on different ways involving bitmapdata and alpha masking, but it didn't work out. this was the easier way, but I would've liked to spent more time on it. lesson for next time!
@Herzucco what's that?
way too little time to react. makes it super hard
woahh so polished, so much fun, so many great mechanics. really good use of the 2 buttons. I really like how the energy bar worked in 2 ways for attacking and blocking. the art is super good and sound design was nice. the background loop was just a bit short. it also surprised me how much content there was, even a second world woah. maybe even more idk. I died at the 2nd, too bad I have to play the same parts again. I probably will try again tommorow, but a continue option would've been nice. apart from that, I'm impressed! so much cool stuff in so litte time
read you post-mortem and yeah I can see your struggles. definitely hard to find something for this theme.
It took me some time to figure out the boost and the fact you can actually use all the arrowkeys. Then it took quite a while once the enemies appeared, but that was interesting to deal with using the roads.
and the art/explosions and music are really cool. can't believe you did that music in like 1.5h. I only managed to get a few guitar tones in that time xD
Such a weird game :D
I like the "CHICKIWOB" sound. and actually the whole sound sound design. did you do anything special to produce them?
Ohhhhh, kawaii TANUKI!
This was surprisingly fun, I'm surprised you didn't get more votes/comments. The graphics were the first thing I noticed and it's pretty unique. it also works nicely with the shifting of animals, which a lot of LD games did, but it feels artificial for most of them.
it doesn't look as good as a whole though. some colors seem off and gameplay-wise it's hard distinct interactive from non-interactive.
really hard to play. I like that the airplane mode glides and makes no sound but it's hard to control. it also seemed difficult to use X for shifting and C for shifting. I think because you learn C first.
I think it would have done better without the direction change altogether.
NOM NOM NOM NOM, FLYYYYY :D
all these references:O
I like the idea of the shapeshifting instead of rotation. but when I was playing I noticed it's initialy a lot harder to play than tetris. and I imagine it gets too easy once you get past that, but I'm not sure about that.
maybe something like a cycle where you could see which shape comes would help.
but congrats on getting so far! saw you quit earlier, so I imagine it was pretty tough. Hope you learned a good deal!
Hey we started with the same idea and went completely different ways! I really like this. it feels really solid and plays well
Thanks all!
@Soron akmost hyperbolic geometry ftw;)
@ALobker You're right! I tried to fix it a bit with the world slowing down, but I just realised I should have also applied it to the controls. Thanks for the feedback!
@Wan Thanks a lot! And yes, it's all sounds from the same guitar.
I wish I had more time to create like 20 samples going up in pitch when you progress, but this also works. I'm glad you like it:)
@theOnlyGoodDrcz Yup, you won! Your eye-hand coordination is on point
@ragnarolis Thanks! I just added a restart after you complete the game. Much better
@markusfisch Hey thanks!
Play some more, maybe you'll find more levels;)
Thanks and props for playing on the trackpad! Definitely hardcore mode:p
and I guess the secret ending is a bit too counter-intuitive to get to. But hey, maybe that gives you a hint;)
@TheCain Wow! Yes... I guess? I've seen that happen a few times, but never that bad. Crazy!
@managore Hey thanks! I think I can spoil it by now, since some people already found it and I'm probably gonna introduce it as a 2nd difficulty for the next version.
So what you want to do is try to clear the board. once you do that, a new mode will start. it's a bit harder, so good luck with that one;)
@01010111 Thanks! Each shape actually has the same radius hitbox. but it is scaled depending on how far the shape is from the center.
I didn't really have time to set appropriate hitboxes, but I don't think it matters that much, it would probably get frustrating with bigger ones.
One interesting dynamic I found is that it's useful to spawn shapes/hitboxes in the center, since then you can't just sit there and observe the shapes. Makes it much more exciting.
woow this is so great! I really like how varied your animals can get, even with these simple coontrols. great job!
Also, it's actually pretty dark people want their pets changed and you can actually do that.
I had some problems sometimes because I didn't not a specific dog looked, but I could figure it out through the tips.
And the only improvement I could think of is making the animals look more alive. like extra animations apart from the eye blink you already have. maybe some small movements, barks, sounds.
I'm scared of yoga now.
At first I thought this was just another one of those hard platformer games, but I was wrong! Well, it was still hard, but the hp vs coins mechanic is really clever!
I tried avoiding any coins as soon as I was on to your misdirections and it became quite challening. At some point I did start to collect some since I wasn't sure if there would be any use to them later. But soon I was 'messing up' and got to much gold that I only had little health. I thought a heart would help me out, but it seemingly only regains what you've actually lost, which makes it not always as useful. But I guess it makes sense to swarm them with coins in that case.
I do wish there was some way to spend your hard/easy earned coins. Most of the time I just tried avoiding them, since the pay-off seems a bit long term (I think the end of the game). I think it would be cool if you could spend them at checkpoints, so if you one is close you know how far you could try and get your health down before you manage to get there.
All in all, I didn't make it to the end, but it was fun to play!
wow congrats! this was a joy to play. I can see where it comes from, since I just played all your (and Kat's) other games and man they are good. keep on going:thumbsup:
Thanks for the comments everyone!
@mcfish The game should be responsive, itch just locks it down. Sometimes it can get too big though, but try it on http://www.jeroenwimmers.com/LDJAM/LD40/ (it doesn't always want to load, my provider is having some troubles)
@mazzletov Not sure what coding approach I used but you can find the source here: http://www.jeroenwimmers.com/LDJAM/LD40/Plastic.rar For the basic setup I used a bunch of classes from a previous project
@psychedelia Haha that sounds super comfy! I definitely want to get it on mobile at some point
@rhythmlynx Hey, glad you liked it! And you're right, those overlapping shapes are not really ideal. I tried to prevent that from happening, but it still happens sometimes. Still gotta tweak those forces a bit I think
First thing, it's adorable how the lil bird hops around. secondly, the sounds, mechanics and sounds all from a nice coherent whole, well done. I just wish my bird would fly up a little faster, but it's tiny bird anyway
This was actually really calming. and I felt I had a lot of control with the mouse, well done. I like how there's a bit of freedom as to how you want to build your tower. like one big stack or multiple next to eachoter. I got around 11 and then the calming yet tense athmosphere turned in to sheer panic trying to prevent all the stones from falling off.
Fun game
Hey great little illustration / game!
It's nice to see the castle build up. Spoilers: I think my favorite interaction was pulling the roots down, pretty surprising. I was stuck for a little while before I found the cloud. Then I didn't expect to move the water like that but it worked out.
All in all fun to play around with from start to finish. Great art style and music too. And from reading your description I actually encountered the same problems. Wanted to challenge the players to play as optimal as possible, but it just made things too complicated and didn't fit the game. Lost like 7 hours to it, hope you didn't burn through that much!
Oh and is there a key somewhere?
Congrats on finishing a game about not finishing a game! I feel that must've been pretty confrontential.
It was nice reading the notes and seeing how it progressed (or not), but there was not really a clear story apart from that. The visuals just seemed to present other abandoned ideas every time. I would've liked to seem them progress and then completely explode or change for example. I think I did see this with the jet-figher, where at the end you saw a more basic version.
I liked the representations though. I think those stacked blocks (sorta looking like buildings) were supposed to be pieces of code. It was a great touch to seem them cleanly stacked up at times or just scattered at others. But again, it was hard to see sort of a progress or story there.
But I guess that's also the point of the game. Game dev is chaotic and can charge of in all directions. And reading the comments here, that seemed to have hit pretty well;)
I loved the game! The graphics are on point, and though the control felt a bit clunky at the start, I got the hang of it in the end. You were able to make a lot within the time frame, it's pretty impressive. The structure with the goals also makes since this way, though it did feel a bit restrictive. I think the part I liked the most is chirping at the crows and feeling like a proper bird (10/10 IGN), less fun was collecting so many crabs. but it was forgiven once I could fly around with my chicks
Thank you all for your feedback!
@leekanarchism @gzuis seems like you've gotten pretty far! I think the end is a bit unclear, but once you found true love, you know you've reached it. Tip: the batteries can power the TV
@kwaku Glad you like it! And you made it to the end, but it's a bit unclear what to do there. so you can put your batteries in the sockets left of the TV, and then you should see the final animation:)
@cjblobby Sorry that happened! That was a bug, it's fixed now
@leekanarchism you're right! we didn't have time to make the second go any different, but good job on reaching the end, twice!
and lovers in a dangerous spacetime was actually part of the inspiration that got us here. I think it would work well too, just a bit tricky if it would be online and all, but it would be cool
it's like The Stretchers on the Nintendo Switch! Great art!
I kept frankie alive! Shame I couldn't keep MYSELF alive (being a ghost and all)
there's some really good potential here! It felt good landing a perfect throw of the torch! NICE
took me a while to find my way to the first puzzle because I was lost in a good-looking sand storm!
that was quite unique! well done.
I found carrying the comrades a bit slow, but luckily you can drop them, walk to the edge of its hitbox and pick em up again. rinse and repeat, and you and you can get them to safety pretty quickly. not sure how much they like being thrown around, but it worked.
not sure how much I like the shooting being in there. there wasn't much ammo, which was good, but there was enough to take everyone out and then do the boring task of dragging the bodies back. the enemies could have introduced some more thinking about how you deal with the bodies, but that doesn't really happen now. unless that's different in later levels, but I stopped at level 3 I think. still enjoyed myself for a bit and the atmosphere and visuals were good
wow that got overwhelming! Great multitasking sim!
I may have rushed this a bit, but it let me! I just hold right continuously and tried to hit some bats if they got in the way. I missed every slash but it didn't really matter since I could still keep going. Jumped over the one and I completed the game.
It did look very pretty but there wasn't much to the gameplay like this. I'm sure it wasn't intended, but if it's possible, players are gonna take the path of least resistance. Why would you kill enemies if you can just run past them? I guess it does fit if you want to go with survival like you say in the description, but I wish there was something else to do/manage then
I like the running animation but gameplay is a bit dull. I can just stand there and shoot the ball left or right from me. all the particles, bloom and highscores don't really help with it. think more focus on the gameplay would've done it well
haha this is great! Super hard, but clever! We made a game about a Jeff too, but a different kind of Jeff XD
nice elder god! would offer sacrifices to him all day! You guys gotta finish this!
@caeonosphere that's weird, from what I can find it could be something with an antivirus program
