LD24 — Evolution

Oneway by azurenimbus 2012-09-17T23:19:00

The graphics are clean and nicely done.

The repetitive sound effects become annoying after a while, I think it could be improved by having some varying rhythm instead of all the notes being short and evenly timed. In its current form, I'd say the game would be better off without the extremely short loop in the background.

Gameplay-wise, the initial impulse I had was to try to match the shape displayed, but it's the other way around (I see you changed it in the post-jam version, good call).

The game ends before providing any real challenge but as you mentioned, that's out of lack of time more than anything else. The post-jam version makes it clear you had more in mind.

The one thing the post-jam version did wrong compared to the jam one is the ability to change your mind after selecting an element. When I realize I made a mistake, the post-jam version forces me to wait instead of allowing me to quickly update my selection by clicking again.

Porte par le Vent by Elisée and friends 2012-08-28T16:16:00

Thanks! :)

RobProductions: sorry about that, CraftStudio's Mac port is not yet ready.

Sanguine: sure. It's pretty simple: I have a pitch (up / down) and yaw (left / right) angle. Both angles are clamped within a reasonable range (up/down is +45°, -45°, left / right is -60° to +60° I think)

For the paper plane, the pitch angle goes down automatically over time , unless the S key is down (in which case it goes up)

To make the plane move forward, I simply use a vector of constant length pointing in front of the plane after applying the yaw & pitch rotations. This is accomplished in CraftStudio with something along the lines of:

self.gameObject.transform:MoveOriented( Vector3:Forward() * speed )

The reason why you start over when hitting something is because we wouldn't have had time to implement proper collision response. Restarting at the last ring would probably have been fairer / more fun though. Then we could have made it so that when you don't have any lives left, you restart at the beginning of the level instead of starting over the whole game. Well, maybe as a post-jam update!

Porte par le Vent by Elisée and friends 2012-08-28T22:25:00

Pierrec: Thanks! We didn't think of adding a cheatcode, sorry :/ I'll try to release a new build with performance improvements at some point.

Porte par le Vent by Elisée and friends 2012-08-29T17:18:00

Bender: Thanks! We did mess up the difficulty a bit :)

Granlou60: Tu peux simplement chercher le projet dans la liste (bouton orange "Projets de la communaute" en haut à gauche) ou bien mettre "craftstud.io" dans le nom d'hote, pas la peine de s'embeter avec une IP.

Porte par le Vent by Elisée and friends 2012-08-29T18:57:00

I just released a new build which fixes the memory leaks. The game shouldn't crash anymore!

LD25 — You are the Villain

Mr Toothy by psychopsam 2012-12-19T11:26:00

I ended up being stuck after eating a few swimmers (speeding up didn't work anymore) although there was no visible obstacle, and even before that speeding up worked really weird.

Planets? Yummy! by Grouflon 2012-12-19T11:36:00

Very nice graphics. It's hardly playable as is since you lose health no matter what you do and ships are too hard to catch. Still a great concept.

Robbert by JuiceBox Entertainment 2012-12-18T07:21:00

I couldn't figure out how to combine anything, tried various combinations with all the items I got from inside the building but nothing worked.

Cruel World Of Business by horrorpen 2012-12-19T11:50:00

Destroying the lemonade stands bit by bit was satisfying :D and I liked the light-hearted approach to the theme regarding the lemonade market.

Avoiding the thrown objects was kind of hard and I think it would have been more fun if there was some way to duck or shield yourself rather than having to jump from one object to another to stay out of the line of fire.

When dying on a level, you probably shouldn't make the player restart from scratch for Ludum Dare entries: most people won't go through the hurdle of replaying all the previous levels just to see what comes next (we made that mistake in our #24 entry ourselves)

Rainbow by ix 2012-12-19T01:08:00

That was fun! I managed to finish it, didn't make me rage quit but it wasn't too easy either. Really nice job.

Earth Destroyer by Interbellum 2012-12-20T21:24:00

Great look and nice job overall! Some critics:

- The gameplay felt too slow: I'm the evil guy destroying cities, why do I have to wait between each shot? I know it makes sense from a story point of view (lack of resources) but gameplay-wise it's frustrating and doesn't add any challenge: it just makes the game last unnecessarily longer.
- Your dialogues could have used some proof-reading :).
- The active weapon is the one grayed out. Doesn't make sense to me and it took me a while to figure out which weapon was active.

Atomic Creep Spawner!! by deepnight 2012-12-18T07:36:00

Great, polished entry as always :)

Oppression by Danvil 2012-12-19T11:42:00

Almost gave up until I read the comment about using WASD (the fact that the blue units were off-screen when starting up didn't help :)) Once I got that, I didn't feel like I was controlling much as my units were too slow to react.

Valkyrie by mikemacdee 2012-12-18T08:04:00

I enjoyed the narration, really built up my interest.

The game gets much easier when you go around kicking with C rather than trying to shoot people.

Like dalbinblue said, aiming is fairly hard but I found it kinda adds to the tension. I might have enjoyed it more if there had been more checkpoints, it became frustrating starting from scratch again several times.

Beach, Please! by Elisée and friends 2012-12-18T08:07:00

Thanks for the comments :)

ananasblau: there's a Mac build too!

Beach, Please! by Elisée and friends 2012-12-18T22:43:00

BlockBrains: have you checked the requirements (aka having the XNA Framework Redistributable 4.0 installed)?

Thanks for the comments everyone :)

jerrre: yes, I forgot to mention you'll need the Mono runtime on Mac. Here's the link: http://download.mono-project.com/archive/2.10.10/macos-10-x86//MonoFramework-MRE-2.10.10.macos10.xamarin.x86.dmg

Holly Jolly Pyromaniac by UndergroundPixel 2012-12-20T20:24:00

Very polished art and lovely mood! On the other hand, the gameplay has no depth and couldn't keep me hooked beyond a couple of games: wish the elves were attacking me somehow or there was something to dodge in the sky maybe.

Mischief by envy3d 2012-12-19T11:28:00

Freezed after the LWJGL downloading... couldn't test :/

Sisyphus by Wan 2012-12-18T11:43:00

Very nice concept! The execution is a bit glitchy (switching between items by clicking on them sometimes doesn't work, even though it's time critical) but overall I enjoyed playing it :)

LD26 — Minimalism

Cpt. Sqrjaw by vapgames 2013-04-30T03:39:00

Very nice game! Love the crazy physics-based movement and the art style :)

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Inspector Badass by Elisée and friends 2014-04-29T01:57:00

Thanks! When you get to 100% evidence, you get the warrant and that unlocks the boss door... Beat it and you'll get to the next zone with a different boss!

Inspector Badass by Elisée and friends 2014-04-30T22:33:00

gre: totally agree, we had some blood particle effects planned but ran out of time!

Thanks from the whole team to everyone who played, rated & left comments so far, much appreciated! :)

Inspector Badass by Elisée and friends 2014-05-04T07:17:00

GrooveMan: Thanks for the feedback! Someone on Reddit reported the same concern as you regarding the thugs. I explained what happened over there: http://www.reddit.com/r/devblogs/comments/24iss7/inspector_badass_making_a_roguelike_in_72h_with_a/ch844zi

Basically: Our bad! It's a side effect of rushing to submit in time. There are only a few different bad guys, not all of them are black, but the most common one is & that gives the wrong impression. Completely unintentional, if we realized it as the game came together, we would have fixed it! Hopefully that doesn't prevent you and other people from enjoying the game.

Inspector Badass by Elisée and friends 2014-05-05T07:41:00

Noah: Thanks! XNA is just the foundation of the tool we use (which I built), CraftStudio. It's a lot like Unity but it is very easy to use even for beginners, features real-time cooperation as well as tools to build models, maps, etc.

Great job! Loved it :)

Hunt The Yeti by Elisée and friends 2014-12-10T12:22:00

Thanks everyone for the kind comments and feedback so far :).

@Managore There are actually just 5 different maps, no random generation there.

@spitfire87 We didn't create any of the sounds or music ourselves (see "Sound credits" link) so we thought it didn't make sense to be rated on it.

LD35 — Shapeshift

Party at the Knightclub by Elisée and friends 2016-04-19T14:18:00

mrnannings: After talking to the bouncer for the first time, you get a new power that should help you with that!

Sorry about the sewer shapeshift bug. Just uploaded a new version, it should be fixed.

What duck? It's totally not a duck. :)

Thanks for all the kind messages, we're glad you like the game so much! We've started working on a post-compo version.

Hi everyone!

Thanks so much for the kind comments, we're glad you're liking the game.

We released a postjam build that is much improved, has even more content and fixes most of the things you reported... We're still working on a possible minimap & quest log, so more updates are coming!

Make sure to **choose the LD46 version for rating** 📑, but when you're done, if you like it, **pleaaaaase enjoy the improved version too**! 😄💖
