Just Handsome :D
(no no i don't say that 'cause i'm part of the crew...)

matheod 2012-08-28 01:25

Awesome ;)

Really loved it! Very fun and pretty. Loved the Donald The Duck frame on the principal's room and the Meat truck. :P A little hard, though, had to play 4 or 5 times until I reached the clouds level and then died pretty quickly (couldn't figure out if I could/should shoot or not). Gonna play more later so try and finish it, but I wanted to rate it already. :)

someguy22 2012-08-28 14:44

Sorry can't play, I'm on a Mac.

fatalcaca 2012-08-28 14:48

VERY good one ! Nice and responsive gameplay, nice graphics, very good level design !

I really liked the flying with the paper plane. Could you share how you did the physics on that? What I did think was annoying was that you had to restart all over when you hit something.

This is fantastic. I love the graphics and just flying around the levels seeing all detail that has been put into them. Reminds me of the graphical style in the Katamari series (which I adore!)

Really nice execution, and I enjoyed playing it. Unfortunately on an awesome run where I didn't lose any lives until level 2 the game froze on me so I didn't get to see the next level. Used the xbox controller, but the continue/quit buttons on the game over screen don't respond to the controller. Could've done with a couple more lives and possibly mid-level checkpoints.

elisee 2012-08-28 16:16

Thanks! :)

RobProductions: sorry about that, CraftStudio's Mac port is not yet ready.

Sanguine: sure. It's pretty simple: I have a pitch (up / down) and yaw (left / right) angle. Both angles are clamped within a reasonable range (up/down is +45°, -45°, left / right is -60° to +60° I think)

For the paper plane, the pitch angle goes down automatically over time , unless the S key is down (in which case it goes up)

To make the plane move forward, I simply use a vector of constant length pointing in front of the plane after applying the yaw & pitch rotations. This is accomplished in CraftStudio with something along the lines of:

self.gameObject.transform:MoveOriented( Vector3:Forward() * speed )

The reason why you start over when hitting something is because we wouldn't have had time to implement proper collision response. Restarting at the last ring would probably have been fairer / more fun though. Then we could have made it so that when you don't have any lives left, you restart at the beginning of the level instead of starting over the whole game. Well, maybe as a post-jam update!

That game is awesome but I've got a lot of trouble running in smoothly on my computer, so it's hard to win. Is there a cheat for infinite lives for slow computers ? ^^

elisee 2012-08-28 22:25

Pierrec: Thanks! We didn't think of adding a cheatcode, sorry :/ I'll try to release a new build with performance improvements at some point.

I really like the graphics, levels are huge for a LD and the game is very fun. It actually make me want to try CraftStudio. Definitively an enjoyable game, but the difficulty is a little hard, checkpoints between levels could be a good improvement.

Salut !

Granlou60 2012-08-29 15:19

enfaite, L'ip c'est : 176.31.207.61

elisee 2012-08-29 17:18

Bender: Thanks! We did mess up the difficulty a bit :)

Granlou60: Tu peux simplement chercher le projet dans la liste (bouton orange "Projets de la communaute" en haut à gauche) ou bien mettre "craftstud.io" dans le nom d'hote, pas la peine de s'embeter avec une IP.

I just released a new build which fixes the memory leaks. The game shouldn't crash anymore!

very cool--this would be better as pure exploration, without the rings, which feel like a frustrated, outmoded feature. you've clearly made a pretty environment to explore, it would be more interesting to navigate it without arbitrary hoops to leap through. going back to enter a hoop i missed is simply boring--my instinct is to press on.

conflictivelabs 2012-09-02 00:34

Interesting game. It's fun although it's frustrating to start from the beginning specially hitting something is insta-death (also, the class room is quite a tricky start point). Perhaps there could be either checkpoints or lives (so if you hit a wall, you have the chance to keep going but you lose a life). Overall quite a good entry. :)

hamster_mk_4 2012-09-03 12:58

This game was awesome enough for me to download the XNA run time. My favorite level was the paper airplane one, just because it felt more natural. The playground level was the most interesting visually, but I the controls felt like a let down from the previous level. The glider game play caused me to crash often, and I didn't have time to enjoy the level. This is still a well crafted entry and despite the lack of sound one of the most polished things I have seen this Ludum Dare.

orni 2012-09-16 18:08

wow - what a cool game, one of my favorite games this LD!
very well done

van-merwan 2012-09-17 22:06

C'mon mighty seed, time to sprout.

azurenimbus 2012-09-17 22:22

So much fun, really enjoyed it! :) Reminded me of the insufferable boredom of school.
