LD24 — Evolution

Cage Flight by Will Edwards 2012-08-28T15:31:00

Pretty fun game! Would be more fun with more players but that's what happens to multiplayer LD games I guess. If the controls were less sluggish it probably would be more fun with less players, I think.

EvolBots (not EvilBots) by vigrid 2012-08-28T20:56:00

Pretty fun trying to control the swarm, it's harder than you'd think! Just that alone is worth playing this. The camera wound up an issue later as more of the bots got separated, was hard to see what was going on. And the delay before picking things up from the ground was a little grating.

Cubevo by NostraDamon 2012-08-28T23:58:00

This is awesome. Addictive, soothing music, good puzzle aspects, and everything has a purpose, even blocks you think are just there to suck out evo gems. Keeps going after you finish, and then at 100% completion you get another fun bone tossed as an encore. Just excellent.

The only niggle is that some people like their mouse controls inverted, and I make it a rule not to play games that don't have an invert option because it gets physically painful after a while. But I still got a 100% despite that. :)

Helix - A DNA Editor / Creature Platformer by hirsch 2012-08-29T15:22:00

Really like the DNA system. Unfortunately I got stuck in the wall at some point and couldn't get out. A self-destruct key would be handy.

Nom's Evolvathlon by bvanschooten 2012-08-29T18:04:00

Really awesome gameplay mechanic. The only thing I didn't like so much was the levels where you start with the jump ability, because it can be so finicky trying to get anywhere with it.

evojump by Deleter 2012-08-28T15:40:00

Awesome graphics, and slightly addictive but unfortunately very hard. The physics are very nice as well. I think it would've benefited from normal speed being a bit slower, since eventually I spent most of my time in slowmo.

The Joining by Eniko 2012-08-28T14:38:00

I can confirm that yes, the screams and such are ambient background sounds. Everyone does at least start around (0,280) so that's the best place for finding other players, I think.

The Joining by Eniko 2012-08-29T00:02:00

Yeah, lack of other players is unfortunately a bit of a problem. The best I can do is suggest you bring a friend when you start testing. :/ Still even alone you can run around and blow up a few bots before you get taken out.

GiRL2501 by braingale 2012-08-28T18:25:00

Really great graphics and audio, pretty solid fun, but the gameplay could've been more interesting. Especially once you get a few evolutions, you just fire the big shot and it bounces so far everything around corners dies. The default shot didn't seem to have much of a point to it.

Kudzundheit by ChainedLupine 2012-08-28T15:50:00

Excellent game! Really fun to play. Don't actually have a whole lot of critique except that the trajectory of the coins is super irritating, they always seem to fly over my head making me waste time and life picking them up before they vanish. And that might be intentional. :P

kernel exception by ratking 2012-08-29T17:39:00

Really polished experience. Selecting multiple units and them being able to overlap paths would be nice. Also, some of the levels generated are extremely hard to impossible.

Self.Recompile() by Kharza 2012-08-29T02:12:00

I'm in love with this concept. I played it all the way through the end, and was awarded with very pretty music. The problem is that at first it's totally unclear what's going on, and the siphoning isn't the most fun thing. And you can do really dumb things like use your siphon (the blue pickaxe) in a failed recipe and have to start over. So, awesome concept, unfortunately it needed a lot more polish to shine. Very much hope this gets a longer, improved post compo version.

Porte par le Vent by Elisée and friends 2012-08-28T16:07:00

Really nice execution, and I enjoyed playing it. Unfortunately on an awesome run where I didn't lose any lives until level 2 the game froze on me so I didn't get to see the next level. Used the xbox controller, but the continue/quit buttons on the game over screen don't respond to the controller. Could've done with a couple more lives and possibly mid-level checkpoints.

DashDashDASH by refreshgames 2012-08-29T15:28:00

I like the idea, but the controls got in the way. They could've stood to be more tight, but the main problem I had was getting stuck on the rails on the side of the road after corners, and the floor dropping out before I could get myself unstuck.

Plan M by MurrayL 2012-08-28T20:20:00

This was awesome and really took me back to the days old old adventure games. The humor was very reminiscent of the type found in Day of the Tentacle and Monkey Island. Could've used some audio, and also I guessed the passcode on the third try trying to get amusing commentary out of the guys. It was confusing as heck so I had to reload.

Evoland by ncannasse 2012-08-28T22:48:00

Really creative use of the theme, lots of fun, very well polished. I'm not sure if I can even think of anything to improve. Excellent game!

LD25 — You are the Villain

Happy Little Murder Friends by farmergnome 2012-12-21T09:10:00

Really nicely polished, good looking/sounding, fun and feature complete. My only gripe is that once the police are on you it's very hard to get rid of them (I waited for ages in a house and they didn't stop chasing me) and they kill you near instantly so going on a rampage isn't really a viable option for clearing a level.

Doctor Spandex by Cássio Eduardo 2012-12-22T18:27:00

Really nice well polished game. Particularly like the graphics! Definitely one of the better ones.

Bad Guy Boot Camp by rustybroomhandle 2012-12-22T15:35:00

The links appear not to be working.

Phaedra by Trigun7000 2012-12-24T08:15:00

Pretty fun game, though the RTS aspect of it is as others said kind of pointless. I tried winning focusing on that more one playthrough and it was basically impossible to win.

Guardian Angel Devil by Serilyn 2012-12-22T08:20:00

That was quite enjoyable, and an interesting mechanic to be the support for the hero. Well, until the end, when you kill him. I felt a little bad about that. :D

Revenge Bear by dek 2012-12-23T08:20:00

Really great visuals and works really smoothly at what it does, very fun. Though more of an indication when you can use your special attack would've been nice.

Terminal by BenW 2012-12-19T15:28:00

Really like the visuals and sound, and the game isn't as straight forward as it appears since the cells only follow properly when the cursor is near, though that could've been advertised better. The lack of a proper ending and the camera twitching was a bit sad though.

Trina of The Depths by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2012-12-23T06:29:00

Really beautiful game, and swimming around is kind of relaxing, especially with the background ooohs and aaahs. I noticed that when falling rapidly downwards Trina goes half off-screen, which could be a problem in a post compo version.

Also I'm not sure if it's a conscious design decision, but I think movement might work better if the meter keeps charging while you hold the arrow key? As in the length of the keypress determines the maximum amount of charge taken, and then when released whatever's in the meter is taken. As it is doing a maximum power thrust is kind of clunky, but like I said that might be by design.

Villain OS 8 by tommycreo 2012-12-23T08:39:00

I like that you need to pet the cat to laugh maniacally and charge your laser. Though, if the world is destroyed by the laser, wouldn't the villain be destroyed too? (and his cat)

Angry Purple Monster by ramoncb 2012-12-23T06:04:00

Great graphics, and pretty long. Is there an end state or does it keep going forever? A score would've been nice.

MidBoss by Eniko 2012-12-20T01:07:00

Thanks everyone for the positive comments, it makes me really happy to be able to provide you guys with entertainment! :D

To those who say the controls are bad, specifically the numpad, how would you change this? Initially I was going to use the arrow keys, but those lack diagonals.

Incidentally I intend to polish this up over winter break and release it as a full game. I suggest anyone who might be interested in that to keep an eye on my Twitter. :)

MidBoss by Eniko 2012-12-21T13:34:00

blob: rats are lower on the pecking order than bats. Try putting your first two levels into agility.

As for the theme, well, there's a few ways to interpret it. Personally I think possessing a badguy fits "you are the badguy", and if the end boss is the villain, then defeating and usurping his body to become the end boss fits pretty decently.

MidBoss by Eniko 2012-12-22T17:55:00

As for who's winning combat, I got a few comments that it wasn't clear there's a combat log. Since I can't edit the compo version like that (I think) I added a note above telling people about the combat log. Unfortunately that's the only way to really tell what's going on sometimes.

MidBoss by Eniko 2012-12-23T10:38:00

Sorcerers are a reminder to not neglect your Wil attribute, which improves magical defense. >_>

MidBoss by Eniko 2012-12-25T04:51:00

@Atomic I'm sorry but I can't really suggest a quick fix for saving because the way the architecture is laid out I don't think there IS a quick fix for saving. :/ But it will be in the cleaned up post-compo version, probably as a cheat of some sort.

MidBoss by Eniko 2012-12-25T12:30:00

Yeah, the game doesn't end at the balrog, because I figured people would want to keep playing after they possessed the final boss form. In fact, if you live to floor 20 and above, I think, he starts spawning as a regular mob.

There are no new mobs in the higher floors, but their numbers do keep increasing.

I'm glad you had enough fun with it to actually go through all that effort using a VM to get a save function. You're probably right that the difficulty curve may need some adjusting, I haven't gotten past floor 9 myself on a legit playthrough.

The Fall of Mr. Wily by StoneMonkeyStudios 2012-12-23T08:57:00

I was so confused at what was going on until the twist came. Then it was all so so funny! Great job!

FActory Villain by metaldemon 2012-12-21T08:19:00

Controls are good, the dynamic shadows are spiffy but maybe they should've gone to make room for some more gameplay. I turned off the sound after a bit though... :P The controls are very smooth so there's potential in this, I think.

Oh, one bug, I fell off a cliff to the left side, and I think my right side got stuck inside a wall, cause I couldn't move left or right after that, though I could jump.

Don't Look At Me by Xavier 2012-12-22T19:06:00

Really great atmosphere, such a shame there isn't more story in it!

None Shall Pass by cardboard 2012-12-21T08:26:00

Love the graphical style, but the gameplay is a bit simple. Although I couldn't figure out what you meant above by getting hit when pulling your sword back. O_o

ECHO CHAMBER by Loren 2012-12-23T08:45:00

Really interesting idea, though possibly a bit too abstract for my liking. Would be cool if there was a bit more depth to the actual gameplay.

A small village by EdoMiyamoto 2012-12-23T08:34:00

Cute game, pretty well polished. Though some of the... turrets? Bugged out and wouldn't shoot at me making this very easy. Also as with all 3D LD games, an inverted mouse option for those of us who find it physically painful to play non-inverted would be nice. :)

Goombah! by johndb 2012-12-22T18:43:00

Very good for the time invested. It's kinda funny being a goomba. Also, at some points the game has a very nice flow of back tracking then charging to kill the plumbers, but it's also dangerous because of squishing danger, so quite fun.

REC - The game by DragonKN 2012-12-23T08:14:00

Very amusing entry, the evil chuckling just makes this.

Enemy of the State by Arcantic 2012-12-23T06:43:00

Good game, works well and the graphics convey what they should. Couldn't manage to find the black gate in the second level for some reason, though. Guards get stuck on walls a lot though, which kind of takes the challenge out of it, and for some reason every now and then the game would freeze for a second for me and drop to 1 fps.

STOP Hero Quest by halemaster 2012-12-22T15:59:00

Pretty fun game! Sad there's no end state besides losing though. Agree that it could be clearer where the special areas are.

Cursed Temple by SirJson 2012-12-23T08:07:00

Good effort. Eventually the difficulty ramps up unexpectedly and upgrades aren't enough to cover it. Seems to me that the HP and movement speed upgrades aren't worth it, since you're going to be pinched in between the knights anyway if your damage isn't high enough.

CORRUPTIONEXE by Xgor 2012-12-23T09:04:00

I actually enjoyed this a lot, it's really clever take on the theme and all the corruption and glitches were very convincing!

Target: Restaurant ! by illugion 2012-12-21T08:14:00

Interesting concept, good art, shame it wasn't finished. I was kinda confused when I got the waiter fired and the game abruptly ended. :p

Korruptor by Codexus 2012-12-22T18:39:00

Neat concept, excellent graphics, controls could stand to be a bit tighter. I also felt that the cool down after the position flip was a bit too long. Also, an inverted mouse option for those of us who find it physically painful to play non-inverted would've been nice. :)

Bad Bad Pigeon by Andrey Pradun 2012-12-23T08:49:00

Well polished and amusing take on the theme, as well as pretty fun. Unfortunately I found the pigeon didn't go up or down fast enough which lead me to get stuck after hitting obstacles a lot.

Heist! by vociferocity 2012-12-23T07:58:00

Really funny entry, with very charming art. I enjoyed it, even though the gameplay is simple. :) Especially liked how you can disguise yourself as the guard.

Blood Money by Typedeaf 2012-12-21T08:50:00

Really fun little game! Enjoyed figuring out what skills to get in order to be able to stay alive. Is the game supposed to just kind of stop after level 10 cause you've won? I kinda wanted to keep wreaking havoc and saving up blood to spam the map with my minions.

Dr. Vile in The Greater Good by GreenPixelDev 2012-12-19T08:15:00

The art, sound and game in general are amazingly polished for something made in three days, and running around whacking people for their stuff so you can save the world is just hilarious. I wanna see more of Lexe!

The Rise and Fall of Professor Moriarty by ProfessorMoriarty 2012-12-21T05:38:00

Really smooth experience, well polished and good fun. Though possibly a bit too abstract to really feel like you're an evil mastermind, but that might just be me. :P

Dark World by KilledByAPixel 2012-12-23T07:02:00

Very cool idea, the speech is pretty disturbing at times. Unfortunately the controls are spongy which isn't a huge issue except the two times when you have to jump off of an enemy to get high enough to proceed. I liked the flashlight effect, very neat!

Monologuer by Devenger 2012-12-18T04:02:00

I really liked the monologuing, unfortunately I liked it so much that it kept making me lose the game. I suppose that's a good sign though!

Land of the Weebums by vrav 2012-12-18T06:29:00

Oh dear, this is the best thing for winding down after the jam. XD So many lols.

Dungeon Mastermind by 7Soul 2012-12-23T07:41:00

Very good, well polished game. Great sound and art, although the background music does get repetitive after a while. ;) Very interesting gameplay mechanic as well.

Tale of Scale by ratking 2012-12-18T05:26:00

Wow it took me forever to wrap my head around the perspective properly to do the last puzzle. XD Really awesome concept though, I'm really curious how you pulled this off code wise.

Dungeon Warden: Rise of the Goatman by Blodyavenger 2012-12-21T05:56:00

Really fun game, and awesome pixel art. The only thing that felt a bit off was the balance, I never actually got to build the bigger dungeons because all my money went into maintaining my smaller ones. Maybe I was just doing it wrong, but even so I managed to beat the game.

Dungeon Warden: Rise of the Goatman by Blodyavenger 2012-12-22T18:54:00

Played it again, the balance seems better now. :)

Sixxy the Puppy by vandriver 2012-12-18T05:31:00

Really awesome graphics, so smooth looking. The ending was uhh, surprising! Took me ages to get there though, and I probably wouldn't have persisted without reading the comments.

LeVillian by Infin8 2012-12-22T16:14:00

Interesting concept, unfortunately the hero kept killing me over and over in level 2, I don't think I could actually create enough minions to kill him.

Sir Cat by JoeCool17 2012-12-22T08:41:00

The art and concept are amusing. The game itself could possibly benefit from smaller hitboxes, since sometimes mice hit me when they're not, and a scrolling background to make clear that Sir Cat is flying forwards on his own power, without the player needing to intervene.

Nefarious Space Pirate by Doddler 2012-12-22T08:00:00

Really fun space shooter! I played until the top bar read off the charts, and the game got truly ridiculous. At one point I couldn't see what was going on due to the screen shake (nice effect btw!) and that's about when I died. Kinda wished it had some upgrades, though!

Blob Revolution by kill0u 2012-12-23T07:26:00

Very nice platformer, although having to press the stick key so far in advance was a little bit annoying. I liked the ending. :)

Banished by Kharza 2012-12-21T06:11:00

Really liked the story and mood, and like last time the graphical style. ;) Kind of sad that the story ends so soon and there isn't a little epilogue or something based on the choice you make.

Was really thrilled to see someone add an inverted mouse option but unfortunately it didn't seem to do anything. :(

Kill The Day! by 2A1S 2012-12-22T19:02:00

Pretty fun game, complete and pretty polished, not as easy as it looks either! I felt the medpacks were a bit weak, and yeah, not shooting where you aim was a bit irritating at times. The AI also has a tendency to get stuck trying to kill zombies on the other side of a wall leaving you free to fire at will.

Dust by Keevor 2012-12-23T07:49:00

Cool idea, would be great if you could have more elaborate ways of killing all the people. A sort of evil version of The Great Machine. Either way, it was entertaining. :)

Villainous Dungeons by Axelhein 2012-12-23T06:48:00

Finished the game in a single go. It's a neat concept, but shame that the actual combat kind of turns into mashing X repeatedly. Does what it sets out to do well though and feels polished. Amusing to find a game that like mine uses possession in an evil dungeon. ;)

Just Politics by brantkings 2012-12-24T07:54:00

Fun game, very funny, though I don't know what it says about governments. :P There's no way to lose though, which kind of makes it feel like less of a challenge and more of a grind.

Namcap: Reverse Pacman by caranha 2012-12-22T15:34:00

I really like the idea but I am so, so terrible at this game. Like some other commenters, I have issues linking numbers to the ghosts on screen. Maybe it would work better if you could click a ghost/near a ghost to select them as well.

Let them live by MaTX 2012-12-19T07:54:00

Really cool twist and interpretation of the theme. I was wondering what you could've possibly done with it in 6 hours, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Dig-Dug Dungeon by bigbadwofl 2012-12-22T05:55:00

Neat little dungeon building game, pretty fun although there wasn't that much dungeon building involved. Could've done with more variety.

Super Generic Princess Saver by Robotic 2012-12-22T16:26:00

Great graphics, sound, presentation, and especially a cool and disturbing view of the theme. Really great job. Only niggles are that cuddling takes too long (never thought I'd say that sentence :P) and it's hard to hit monsters that are beating on your castle.

LD28 — You Only Get One

Shine by AdventureIslands 2013-12-25T16:32:00

Nice graphics, neat concept, good execution! All in all, a really great game! On the second level I managed to stand on the block below the pillar way to the right. Not sure if that's intentional. Also, I didn't much enjoy the last level, but that's probably cause I sucked at it. :P

No Way Out by Eniko 2013-12-16T04:29:00

The white text are the panicked thoughts of the character. When panicked, you can't think clearly or focus very well. These thoughts are intentionally obtrusive, to disrupt the player's focus and make it easier to identify with the character's current mental state, so it sounds like those were working as intended! >_>

Though whether that design is a good idea or not is a matter of debate, I suppose! XD

Make Tetrominoes! by Crowbeak 2013-12-17T12:44:00

Very smooth little game. A bit too easy, and a few little niggles I would change such as letting users click either tile until they place it and making sure when a new tile appears to check if the board already has it. Regardless, it's a new interesting concept and if you can get into the flow of it with the CLICK, SHUNK, TIIIING it's almost zen like.

(<3 the audio)

Hope for an Audible Future by Benn 2013-12-25T16:07:00

Six kills here too. >_> I like the minimalistic graphics style, though the ships remind me more of worms with how they bend. XD The intro is maybe a little long to be unskippable, means it takes a long time to try again.

Hope for an Audible Future by Benn 2013-12-25T16:08:00

Six kills here too. >_> I like the minimalistic graphics style, though the ships remind me more of worms with how they bend. XD The intro is maybe a little long to be unskippable, means it takes a long time to try again. (duplicate comment because it commented without rating -_-)

One Minute To War by squibbons 2013-12-17T16:19:00

Neat concept! Reminded me a bit of Papers Please. Does it end? I got to level 20.

Maybe at some point reducing time might have a better effect than adding more pages?

Also I noticed that if you jiggle the paper the code, if it's on a page, will lag behind the page. This can be abused to find the code.

CROSSBORE by (Not) Ivano 2013-12-18T00:36:00

I think I'm very bad at this game. D: I managed to get to the boss once by evading and luring the mobs into clumps, but the boss runs faster than I could move so I just died.

A little less mobs would be good, I think. Otherwise the concept of having to use the same arrow over and over is pretty neat, especially with being able to kick to get along while it's gone. Paige seemed to get stuck on corpses a lot. O_o

Invert by sfiq12 2013-12-17T15:21:00

Interesting concept, very good for a first LD! Ultimately there isn't a whole lot that you can do with the light cube, which is a bit sad.

The jumping and movement was a bit floaty and fiddly in places. Also, I'm curious why there was music on the secret screen as well as some effects that weren't in the game.

Thrust Issues by Gravedrinker 2013-12-25T16:20:00

Great game! It's really fun to play although yeah, the difficulty ramps up pretty hard. Was there a way to reset the level I didn't find? Cause that'd have been useful!

Equals 1 by netguy204 2013-12-17T15:53:00

Pretty decent game, interesting take on the theme! Took me a while to figure out how the rotation thing worked. Also I wish there was a button to reset the level cause I kept figuring out I was doing it wrong way before the end and had to sit out the rest to reset.

Midnight Minigun by jimmypaulin 2013-12-25T16:14:00

<3 for zombie games. I like the idea of only having a minigun that roots you. I'm really bad at this one though, I think my best score was like 95/1000. :P Works really well for what it's trying to do, only niggle I have is that the tree hitboxes might be a little big.

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Color Graphics Adventure by Eniko 2014-04-29T02:12:00

Thinking of doing a post-compo version with story, more features, more mobs, and a proper full-screen mobile version. :)

Color Graphics Adventure by Eniko 2014-04-29T13:24:00

The attributes at the top are determined by the monochrome cards. Monochrome cards are equipment cards that increase an attribute indicated by the icon (A=sword, M=wand, D=shield, HP=heart) by their strength.

Color Graphics Adventure by Eniko 2014-05-06T12:21:00

Odd, the game tries to detect if you can't do any damage to the enemy and the enemy can't do any damage to you and should call that a draw. Maybe there's some kind of bug in there. O_o

Read Between the Tropes by Crowbeak 2014-05-01T20:09:00

I like the writing, though I found the mech story better than the magical guardian one, that's probably personal preference talking though. It's amazing how you can make a pretty decent story just stringing together a bunch of tropes, I actually got pretty interested in the background of the mecha story. :D

WOOD BIRD EGG DIG by voxel 2014-05-14T20:27:00

Took me a couple seconds to figure out you can only go with the wood grain. Very cool little puzzle mechanic, that. Pretty sweet game for something you pulled together in the last few hours. Does it go on forever?

An Ode to Violence by Benn 2014-05-02T17:09:00

The dynamics of the movement and speed, trying to get to the planes and the slow mo makes this deceptively simple looking game feel really good!

I am a Richard by Dezzles 2014-04-30T00:36:00

Got stuck falling at the leap of faith. :( So sad. Won't know the end now.

Relica by Kino333 2014-05-14T21:12:00

Good background music, and a pretty complete entry so great for a first LD game! :D Gotta admit the controls could be a bit frustrating though. Also not sure what the things I was picking up were, or the portals. >_>

Drowning in Problems by Notch 2014-05-14T21:00:00

Interesting concept, decent execution, can't help but wonder if it's autobiographical. I think I understand where you were going with this, but I'm not sure I 100% like the idea of creating leads to failure leads to bitterness leads to death and being forgotten.

In Hiding by Sheepolution 2014-05-14T20:38:00

Really atmospheric. Kinda funny, it was kind of like playing my own game with the heartbeats and the "They're here!" if you get caught.

Had the same issue someone else mentioned not being able to extract the zip. I used the Windows explorer to open it and copied the files that way and it worked. Recommend using 7zip to zip up your files from here on out. :p
