The sandstorm will damage you over time Porpentine. Thanks guys.
But on that note, if you evolve his protection AI by lifting him over ledges, feeding him water, etc he will create a force-field that protects you from the sandstorms/weather.
Thanks guys, yea I pretty much had to knock the platforming together pretty quick since there is a fair amount of detail that went into the droids behaviors and all that, would have liked to adjust the wall climb a little more but o well...
You at some point will reach a spaceship, and the droid will drop some hints how to get inside.
Would anyone be interested in a expanded version? Possibly with all the mechanics/more content/better controls and a bit more refined?
I did a bit of a writeup on what went right and wrong:
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/?p=178654&preview=true
hmmm might be a driver issue or something, what sort of graphics card and direct x version do you have Sgt Squrrelly?
Well, long story short, I am working on a longer version of this right now, so keep the suggestions coming! I will add anything that makes sense :)
Hey Papy, that would be your video card bro, either no direct x9 or no pixel shader support, the game requires both or it will bone out hard.
Thanks everyone who voted for the game, you can check out progress of the improved version here:

Cheers guys!
This is great.
Didn't work on mine sorry dude :(
Enjoyed this one!
This was awesome, great name also.
Awesome game!
Great animation and graphics, quite fun too!
Fun game!
Cheers guys, it maybe a bit hard, I am not sure if I will continue this post - competition at this stage, shall see I guess.
@Jiggawatt - yea there is tons to do, though I had an easier time than my previous entry (Soul Jar) Which had a lot of bugs related to the platforming/physics. I used box2d this time through which allowed me to focus on mechanics rather than shit breaking.
@Tifu The game doesn't save data after quit, I kind of ran out of time on that one, might add it if enough people request it....
Cheers guys, does anyone actually want a post LD version?
Cheers guys, I had a bit of time this arvo to start work on the post competition version, I will upload it tonight my time - expect full new set of music/sound - online high score boards, new tweaks and much needed fixes. I am taking feature requests if anyone has anything they would like to see?
Cheers guys. @soy_yuma It was made in 48 hours, its a solo entry, not a Jam. @pereubu I was kind of time limited with the content - I am only one man.
as for the post competition version, I will post it up at www.farmergnome.com hopefully today sometime.
Check the latest build on my site/Post Comp build above @CappaGames, I turned the flashy seizure effects way back. @Eniko I did a bit of a balance pass on the post build also, making the characters considerably quicker, so you can more easily rampage as a viable tactic now, I also increased the alert range of melee attacks, making cops come quicker than the comp build.
@allinlabs The characters are just jumbled up real life serial killer names, except Edmund McMan, hes from my rather dark TIGSource competition game called Edmund, it is on my website.
Believe it or not, the colors for the game are entirely procedural for the terrains/cars also, all the objects aside from characters are greyscale, I just used color tinting.
The post comp version has the movement speed increased Pacifist Games - police will agro based on people being alerted or killed on various levels, people being run over alert the cops though much less than firing a gun at someone.
Hey Rawbits, most of the balancing stuff was sorted for the post competition build, also characters work a different way in the post version to allow for highscores / progress and such, cheers.
Quite liked this one, I thought the input lag was a nice touch, I got stumped but it definitely has promise.
One of my favorites so far.
This was pretty fantastic, good job.
Very Cute!
Okay, first things first, cool take on a shmup, I loved the variance based on the music I selected, very cool. I think the game could do with some more effects and prompts (when you get hit for example) to better portray what is happening in-game, I struggled with that but overall a well executed idea.
I think you could take this well beyond your competition build and add all the bells and whistles and have a very solid game with an awesome mechanic, either way good work :)
This was totally retarded, in the best way possible, laughed the whole way.
The look around controls are my only complaint, and it is a minor one, absolutely amazing for a 48 hour game, well done. Would love to see a post comp build.
One of my favorites for sure, good job.
Would love to play this, any chance of a windows port?
I couldn't play this one, it said it was missing components :(
I need a phone seriously, this maybe the reason I buy a fancy phone.
Definitely needs AI :) Has promise though.
Nice concept.
Loved the visuals! Very Nice Nik.
Loved the visuals! Very Nice Nik.
@pvwradtke try updating to Wine 1.5 , JigxorAndy managed to get it working under that.
@Prelucid sure are :)
@SaintHeiser Nah theres a ending, theres also hardcore mode if you manage to finish it :) But levels are randomly built.
Cheers guys, glad you like it.
New post competition build is up with all new music and lots of difficulty and control fixes, enjoy!
lol to easy? Everyone is saying it is too hard. Can't please everyone.
@Casino Jack directional shooting lock is a feature, it was too hard to play otherwise, i might allow players to turn the lock off however on the menu.
@RobKat on the character select screen when you select your agents there will be a whole pile of keys overlayed onto them, just click the key text.
New music has been added! Also, I fixed a bug with keyboards with joypad inserts screwing out the game, just click disable joypads on the menu ;) Enjoy.
press alt enter axcho, will allow you to go fullscreen and see everything (its off-screen because windowed res is 1280x720)
ALT+ENTER that is :)
Hmmm you should be able to resize the window if that isn't an option, I will add a shortcut to start the game tonight for you :)
@HD408 hardcore mode auto plays when its unlocked, it will just amp up the enemy health and spawn rates, and will also spawn bigger enemies.
I just uploaded a new post compo build that addresses the difficulty, it should be significantly more difficult in later levels now, and hardcore mode will kick your ass.
Thanks guys! @Edgy Mirrors I would love to try n debug that if you have a chance, reckon you could tweet me or email me at [email protected] or @farmergnome ? Would love to sort the bug out :)
Feel free to change them superdisk, they are all rebindable.
Hmm I will look into that, might have to pick myself up a PS2 controller to test it.
Cheers guys, I am busy at work on a post compo version with a bit more content at the moment, ill post it on my twitter / website when it is ready. Adding some sidescrolling elements :)
Full Marks for Fun and Innovation and theme, fantastic idea that could definitely be furthered after, I would love to see different games being played with the same mechanics, maybe even different controls (analog sticks, flight sticks, racing wheels, real world dangers, etc) oh man, the possibilities are endless. Ether way, fantastic entry.
This is so well done, love it.
One of my favorites, great job dude.
Probably one of the most mechanically fun entries yet, great job.
Full points for Mood and Graphics and Theme, this definitely brightened my day, very simple but expertly crafted. Good job.
Cute little shooter, well executed.
Sadly I couldn't get this to run, shame it looks really cool.
Interesting idea, I think this could definitely benefit from some extra work as the concept is quite fun, I thought I could collect the coins at the start, maybe swap them out to something more sinister? Cool concept either way!
Solid as hell, I actually quite like the bouncy walls and stuff, makes the whole thing feel really chaotic and well... great :) Good job.
Wow harder than I expected, I had fun tho!
This one turned out fantastic, love the random nature of it, took awhile for me to get working but finally, was worth the effort. Good job guys and grats on your first game.
The concept of this is fantastic, I would love to see a post comp version, good job.
Full marks here, this is fantastic, I would love to see it expanded some also, great use of the 48 hours - all the art and music and mood and such is lovely.
WINNER. Seriously, its over guys, Mustache Armies takes gold, see ya'll next Ludum Dare.
IMPRESSIVE. Very impressive. One of my favorite jam entries this far.
What a fantastic idea, full marks for innovation and fun, I love the gear change mechanic, I would love to see a post competition version of this myself, but either way good job.
Fantastic entry.
Man this game is brutal, I really dig the combat system though, It feels really freeform, I wish the enemies were more forgiving though! Still, quite impressive.
Need more stars! This is great.
@Feysoura, I actually had an hour powernap to trick my body haha, aside from that yea, no sleep. Sleep after.
@Jan Marcano I will spend a few hours today putting proper music in, fixing a few of the effects and adding voice over for seagal and hopefully get a trailer done today also, should be up in a few hours.
@Jan Marcano Post comp version that is.
Infinite, its all procedural.
Thanks guys, glad you like it! I guess at some point I might extend the comp version if people still are keen to play more.
Thanks guys, I am working on various post competition missions for it now (and endings, so it shouldn't be too long I wouldn't think, real life got in the way of progress), I will throw it up on my site where the post - comp version is hosted when it is done.
This game is lovely, especially the graphics, very polished!
This is fantastic.
Pretty damn awesome idea.
Probably the best art ive seen so far.
This was totally charming, especially the sound effects, well done.
Amazing music, awesome art, probably my fav entry so far. Did I mention great music?
Full marks in quite a few places here, I loved the concept, I loved the DS style split, mechanics and graphics are absolutely top notch. Well done!
Very original game, loved it!
This was top notch, totally crazy though, loved it!
Great entry dude!
One of my favorites if not favorite, so much polish! Well done bro.
This one had me laughing, had fun exploring the choices, great entry!
Please continue with this, I had a lot of fun with this one!
Awesome entry, loved the take on the theme!
Simple but very well done, very enjoyable!
Wow that was intense, awesome vibe also.
Awesome story, nice art also.
Loved the atmosphere and audio in this especially, great job.
Cool entry guys! Love the mechanic.
