LD23 — Tiny World

Big Atoms by Alink 2012-04-24T14:11:00

Thanks.
About the controls, you have a lot of inertia (which can also be useful to hit stuff harder), but it seems to be perceived as unresponsiveness. And, of course, going up is even slower.

@Dr. Mo:
I tried that, but it required a lot of the coordination to really use it.

@Lidfrid:
Try arrows keys, Mago says that the 'w' key is broken for him.

@Mago:
Yeah, I probably used the wrong keyboard layout (AZERTY). Thanks for reporting that.

Big Atoms by Alink 2012-04-24T22:56:00

I just documented a method to tweak your power using the editor (see above) :)

Big Atoms by Alink 2012-04-25T01:32:00

@norganan or others stuck in the second level. Don't forget to hit 'space' to retry a level. Maybe you will notice what you did wrong.

Disastronaut by Jeffalisk 2012-04-24T18:44:00

It was very fun chasing stuff with this fuel mechanic. I would prefer the camera centered on the player. The music makes it very relaxing.

The Tiny, Unknown and Unimportant World by waveon foxdale 2012-04-26T03:13:00

Really need some info about what objects do or more feedback about what's going on. A classic sim-like idea would be mood-bubble on top of humans (hungry, cold). BTW does position matter ?

Polarity by nornagon 2012-04-25T01:51:00

Excellent. The idea and controls are very elegant, and the levels are well done. Maybe try be neutral when both keys are pressed. Anyway, really good.

Boundaries by jeffreybiles 2012-04-26T03:36:00

Very cool idea and plays well. Maybe add a heavy big atom boss having few electrons.

About simple graphics, you should use few circles as proton and neutrons to draw the nucleus. I used that trick to draw the molecules of my game and I think that combining simple forms into something more complex make it less boring for the eyes, without requiring art skills (also see the cubes of Minecraft)

Your Little Tale by LFleck 2012-04-24T18:20:00

Very cute graphics and cool idea. I could use some tooltip for actions because it was not clear how to use them

Honey Heist by CappaGames 2012-04-24T18:31:00

Very fun game and nice level variety. I like how you can run to escape when detected. Adding some sounds would make me jump from stress.

Little World Adventure by firstrowgames 2012-04-24T21:12:00

Pretty graphics, even if a bit glitchy. Love the calm music (sad when it stops). I have no idea how to progress though.

Vac-Man by rhaasken 2012-04-26T03:03:00

Weird controls but fun concept. Sprites could be a bit more easy to differentiate. Thanks for using this good guitar music instead of vacuum sound :)

No Air Out Here by Elemental Zeal Games Studios 2012-04-24T18:18:00

Interesting shooting mechanic, but need more challenge or variety. Nice to have a upgrade/shop system though.

Pretentious Game by keybol 2012-04-27T17:00:00

Great! Maybe use slightly less simple graphics, like rounded rectangle or less flashy colors. The music and mood are superb. The title makes me not sure about the intention, but both ways are well done.

Super Planet Crusher Extreme by edg3 2012-04-24T18:51:00

Can't make it run on Windows XP (tried all links) :(

Biodome by 7Soul 2012-04-26T17:08:00

Impressive arts. The gameplay is sometimes a bit tedious and the block placing fiddly in some cases. Bot otherwise, nice job.

Accretion by bastiandantilus 2012-04-24T20:49:00

Very fun and nice crazy idea. I like the game mechanic expect the handling of borders. Some glitches but with such physic events that's expected.

Path O' Invasion by ratboy2713 2012-04-24T19:06:00

Cool innovative RTS mechanics and the look is good. The micromanagement is a bit messy and I think I lose because of that. Nice job

LD24 — Evolution

Shape the World! by Cyboot 2012-08-30T17:59:00

Allow to edit your own shape is a very good idea, I just wish that it was more directly used (like spikes to attack etc). No sound on linux(log : http://pastebin.com/aMu02TeY). Nice entry overall.

Jumpers in Love by Alink 2012-08-27T12:43:00

turkwise:
Thanks and good point, I should have used that more. BTW, I just added info about the level editor in the description Unfortunately, population is hard-coded for each level. But I guess you can make a level where most will spawn in a death trap, leaving only few survivors to save.

Jumpers in Love by Alink 2012-09-09T22:20:00

Glad that people likes the look, I almost regretted losing early time on animation, but I thought that making them seem alive and cute was important for this kind of shepherd game.

Andrew: It was for easier map creation. Still was a challenge because the little guys were bad at climbing circle. Also why I focused more on jumping.

Frozen Fractal: You can make them turn around by hovering with your mouse. This give you a tiny bit of control to help to reach the exit or keep some good ones for reproduction, or even make them go back help the bad ones blocked at the start. Interface not perfect, but hard to balance because too much control was not wanted.

The life of Cat by Amoaeba Junior 2012-08-30T18:07:00

Good game. Make me want to do more sports while I still can.

LD25 — You are the Villain

Parasite Quest by Hatscat 2012-12-20T13:36:00

Cool game, I liked the territory mechanic.

You Are The Invader by juaxix 2012-12-20T13:43:00

Impressive visuals. Only lack some impact for the laser. Or at least it shouldn't pass trough.

Bloody Ninja Spider by Alink 2012-12-17T13:05:00

lekochen: Yeah, I added water at the end, checkpoints and swimming were planned, but not enough time.

amassingham: Rope swigging was part of the initial plan, but I needed jumping and climbing first, and then I realized it was already a very powerful movement and "game-y" enough. Also, I improvised the collision engine, so not sure how much I could push it.

Some additional tricks are currently possible with the engine (just need to draw pixels) but one more challenging idea was to have moving fireflies, forcing you to time your jump. Maybe even make them slow when you are far, so you can surprise them with a long jump (which are more challenging).

Bloody Ninja Spider by Alink 2012-12-17T14:20:00

Thanks for your nice comments.

@ Puffi: No sounds, I had flash bugs (annoying delay) and no time to fix, so I decided to use ninja sounds.

@ Datw: oh :(. The game is very light (180kb) but has no preloader, maybe try to wait in case connection is very slow.

Bloody Ninja Spider by Alink 2012-12-18T12:34:00

Wow, I finally now better understand why players wanted checkpoints. A last minute typo broke the respawn. It's indeed much too harsh like that (I couldn't pass my own level). Sorry for people who tried with this bug, or bravo for your perseverance.

I updated the entry and documented the change. Previous testers may need to hit ctrl+F5 to force their browser to use the new file.

Bloody Ninja Spider by Alink 2012-12-20T10:33:00

@ Sestren: Yes, indeed, small inspiration from that. I didn't really pushed in that direction, though.

@pfirsich: Thanks! The idea is that a big ugly spider is a classical villain in video games. I tried to emphasizes this with the sprites (cute passive light-bringer fireflies versus nasty jumpy spider easting them all), but with limited time and arts skills, it is not easy.

Trina of The Depths by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2012-12-18T06:32:00

Excellent arts (graphics, animation and sound).

Bombit Bob by triplefox 2012-12-21T08:58:00

The time thing gives a lot of fun stress. Nice touch with the music speed.

Centipede 2013 by robashton 2012-12-17T13:16:00

Classic are always effective, and the twist is cool. Maybe add more rocks for obstacles and cover?

A.F.M.K.R.O. by Homletmoo 2012-12-21T08:42:00

Innovative interface and great style.

Small Theft Auto by ncannasse 2012-12-21T18:43:00

That's a lot of stuff and well done. Very impressive.

Earthmination by Dreauw 2012-12-20T13:57:00

Good game. Looks too simple at first, but then the upgrade curve (slightly OP) made it more fun. I would just suggest icons instead of colors for the bonus (even if most other games do like you).

LD26 — Minimalism

MiniMai by Saturnyn 2013-05-03T12:16:00

Fun game but very hard. I tried a lot but the boss is a bit too unpredictable, sill a good boss fight too.

Centroid by daniel 2013-05-02T12:53:00

I had trouble with the titlescreen, but the game idea is neat, and surprisingly I never saw it before.

Minimal Annihilation by Zener 2013-05-13T20:47:00

Excellent. Very good music and nice arts.

Stress Test by MattySVN 2013-05-09T19:30:00

I like the high inertia, but the collisions seems very imprecise. Good levels and the difficulty is well tuned.

Mix by Leebo86 2013-05-13T20:17:00

Very fun. I like the contrast between the beginning when you have time to do optimal moves, and the end where it becomes very hectic.

Atrakt 4096 by foumart 2013-05-03T21:38:00

A lot of interesting mechanics and well executed, but quite unclear at first. I got stuck at stage 4 (just an empty room with a closed red square?).

Mini Mix by echokain 2013-05-01T00:37:00

At first, I thought that only having one level would be boring, but it evolves nicely. Good job making puzzles with that constraint.

Shoot the Apple by syawqy 2013-05-03T21:49:00

There is potential, but much too easy. Just fixing the bouncing angles (like a billiard game) could make this an excellent challenge.

Round Box by Webravenz 2013-05-01T00:18:00

Well done. I am usually not a fan of this kind of rhythm based game, but this one is really cool. The simple toggle mechanism is so much nicer than the usual multi-color/keys stuff, especially when the speed increased.

I think what I like is that you must quickly choose between options (toggle or strafe, get the bonus or not), instead of being forced to follow a fixed sequence.

Great sounds choice too.

The Parasite by jahlgren 2013-05-04T11:41:00

Very good. The stamina/eating/digging mechanism and the semi-random levels are cool innovations.

Block Disco by Jubjub. 2013-04-30T11:30:00

Very fun. Nice usage of physics and good variety of blocks.

Minyrinth by crazynito 2013-04-29T19:45:00

Very fun, and with good stress. The fact that getting power-up is often risky adds a lot.

silly squares by lightsoda 2013-05-05T21:53:00

Good game. Difficulty is perfect IMO. Just hard enough to not be frustrating.

The little texts and the unusual key/door mechanism are good ideas.

Mininal Risk by Bedgar 2013-05-05T22:01:00

Simple but sill fun. I Really wanted to play more levels after that. Bonus point for having an AI in your first game.

Black Square by Parappa 2013-05-04T11:14:00

Deliciously retro.

Sniff by Adrian 2013-05-09T19:39:00

I was not fan of the drug theme, but the execution make it funny. Various good ideas like the hidden streets or the balance between speed/protection/goal. Nice arts too.

Zip by Chronodrax 2013-05-14T20:43:00

Nice idea and good levels, really fun to play.

BTW, I found your game via reddit, and I had a hard time to find it here (I guess searching 'zip' return all games providing a zip file)

You Must Escape by GertJohnny 2013-05-16T17:38:00

Really well done. The basic idea and its implementation are already nice, but you also added other very good gameplay elements. Great level design too.

Clown fixer by VladRusu 2013-05-09T19:22:00

The characters are nicely done. I assume the bare background is because of the theme?

Text only looks like dots for me. (on Linux, maybe missing the fonts?)

Too Few by egor-idiot 2013-05-05T21:35:00

Great atmosphere (only miss gunshots sounds). Not sure about the "game".

BTW you can survive the gunfight.

Togglio by Zemmi 2013-04-29T17:30:00

Quite confusing at first. I finally understood but maybe the description should explain it a bit more.

But interesting and innovative concept, even if it quickly becomes hard.

Togglio by Zemmi 2013-04-29T17:32:00

Quite confusing at first. I finally understood how to play, but maybe the description could help a bit more.

But interesting and innovative concept, even if it quickly becomes hard.

A Game of Numbers by JoeDev_net 2013-05-08T00:09:00

Excellent math game. Fun and probably have good educative value. Good job on the level design too, I imagine there are not easy to create. Only lack sounds, but the shaking effect was a nice idea to make it less static.

Boximalism by poohshoes 2013-05-01T01:06:00

Fascinating, and the execution is fantastic. The cryptic (but important) instructions also adds a nice layer of mystery.

A Square In A Room by PapyPilgrim 2013-04-29T16:52:00

Brilliant simplicity. And nice attention to details with the different color fading and how the light propagate. Just missing seeing the whole map at each end.

PS: That's very stupid of me, but when I hit my first red wall, I incorrectly assumed that now all walls were killing me, and thus also avoided the gray ones (which sadly are not on the way for 3 levels) and I always ended up on the reds, preventing me to understand my error and thus using the highlight helper. Since like that it was a bit frustrating and looked too hard, I almost gave up. Maybe mention something about the red/gray difference in description?

D.RE.U by Pitʶik4 2013-05-03T22:07:00

Very funny with some good puzzles. Valve should hire you for Portal 3 ;)

LD27 — 10 Seconds

Descent Alpha by myachin 2013-09-12T11:17:00

The jump is a bit weird and the enemies too annoying, but I I loved the idea and art style.

TickType by shockedfrog 2013-08-26T13:01:00

Fun innovative typing game. Hard mode is hard, but I will try again after playing many other LD games and thus having a fine grasp of what 10 seconds is.

10 seconds to save the day by Volute 2013-08-28T19:25:00

Good story and the last 10 seconds idea was well used.

No Time to Stop by Alink 2013-08-26T12:38:00

Thanks all for playing. Seeing the comments about difficulty, I tried with a handicap (only one left finger) and I noticed that I let an arbitrary 13 seconds limit (sorry to brag but 13 is still enough for me, but hey I made the game). So, I removed that line, in case people struggle too much with the time.

Unless the difficulty comes from the puzzles? In which case, sorry, that part is by design, because it's a game with a very limited number of useful moves, even if they are not always obvious, so I think the solution must be well hidden. Also, my goal was to allow the small number of levels to still offer a good challenge.

Clockwork Cat by patrickgh3 2013-08-26T03:54:00

Brilliant. The idea to manually rewind the time and how it's bound to the mechanisms is so much better that the obvious simple checkpoint to reach.

Graphics and music is lovely too.

Chronored by kidanger 2013-08-31T21:10:00

Very fun, challenging but perfectly balanced.

Apple Harvest by Spelchan 2013-08-26T03:45:00

Simple but still with some nice visual details.

10 Second Tofu by zerocreativity1 2013-09-04T20:38:00

Very well polished game. For the click problem, I suggest to mention the arrow keys method in the description.

Deadly Sunrise by jayhC 2013-09-10T15:08:00

Very fun. Hard but very well balanced. Good levels with multiple paths. Really nice job.

10 Seconds and The Wizard by michail 2013-08-30T21:04:00

Fun simple game. Flying keys a bit hard to hit, ended up spam click more that aiming/timing. But the "secret" and quick reaction puzzle were well balanced.

Demon Infiltration by Zekyon 2013-08-26T18:40:00

Good game with some nice ideas. The puzzles were surprising hard to figure out. I think the player should be forced to use the rocks. I found out about it only at my second run and it made the game better.

10 Second Paper Flight by Gamepopper 2013-08-30T21:14:00

Hard to understand how to play well, but I had few good throws. Maybe need more feedback clues?

Space Jam by FlashDave 2013-08-30T21:19:00

Graphics and sounds are very nice, but I am not sure about the fights, is there a winning strategy ?

BIRTH by grayhaze 2013-09-10T12:39:00

Interesting flying mechanic.

Lil' Kingdom Strives To Survive by lucidlarva 2013-09-15T08:21:00

Very interesting take on RTS and the theme. The result is pretty good. Keep adding new stuff (even just new maps) and I could play a long time.

Origin Within by FanFan 2013-08-26T19:14:00

Genial idea about how to use the theme to still have a big map to explore in a 10 sec range. And the various unlocks are nicely done.

The graphics are lovely, but why so small? I zoomed and big pixels are good with such pretty sprites.

10 seconds to escape from Hell by eemmbbeerr 2013-09-15T21:39:00

Surprisingly hard, not sure why. The contrast between the different art styles is a bit weird but it's better that the usual bare blocky look.

Aliens on a Schoolday?! by Farfin 2013-09-08T14:00:00

Excellent. The laser idea was really fun and well executed. Nice replayability too.

Buzzbuster by AhNinniah 2013-09-10T12:46:00

Wow, really fun innovative way to make a breakout. I especially like how you integrated the bee theme in the look and gameplay. And the idea that bees stings (which means that there is a risk with to have too many "balls") is brilliant.

Dango Rush by ghRibacki 2013-09-10T14:49:00

Good game and fun to learn. Perhaps start with easier enemies (less or even no shoots, slower, weaker, etc)?

The qi quest by CoOz 2013-08-28T18:46:00

Cool game and presentation. I liked the mouse interface but I had troubles with the perfects (not even sure what is a 'perfect' exactly, just the angle?)

One Slice Too Many by William Bundy 2013-08-26T13:06:00

Quite puzzling. The way the keys works was innovative.

TenTen Rush by Dreauw 2013-08-29T00:45:00

Great job in all parts. The character change was a good idea to break the repetitiveness of this genre.

LD28 — You Only Get One

The Bubble by Alink 2013-12-16T15:33:00

Thanks for playing my game. I intentionally let the player discover the mechanic, but here are some tips if really needed:

- Of course, use long blow (keep space key pressed).
- Closer blows are much more powerful. Often better to let the bubble comes to you first.
- Jump + and close blow are very effective but inaccurate and risky.
- Use the bubble inertia.
- Your character doesn't hit the bubble.
- Find the best order to get the cheese/bubbles.

Hope it helps and have fun.

The Bubble by Alink 2013-12-17T18:59:00

@Pixelbear: Ah indeed good point. I should have timed it so can't go far enough to miss the main bubble hitting the ground. And probably also move the first mini golden bubble off the start screen. Well, when I designed that part, I was planning to add more instructions and a nicer mechanic for the bubbles creation (make the mouse blows through a soap thing)

The Bubble by Alink 2013-12-29T01:01:00

@jacklehamster: indeed it should. Note that there is working code and animation for that. At some point, the mouse was able to jump into the bubble and make it bigger by blowing inside (also not realistic), catching more wind, less gravity etc. That's why you are a mouse and the bubble is about your size. But floating like that to pass obstacle was not very fun: too much control and you stay inside playing a flying game, too little and you just watch yourself going in a bad direction.

Str1ngle by Zanzlanz 2013-12-17T01:48:00

Great idea and a lot of good vibes from the execution.

One Shot by zzzev 2014-01-06T22:29:00

Cool concept and very satisfying to play. The rolling animation on balls is a nice addition.

Too Many Guns Bro by DiscoFish 2014-01-06T22:23:00

A bit hard but very fun, and nice physics effects.

The Follower by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2013-12-18T02:11:00

Love the idea, but not enough gameplay right now. Just adding something to mine underground would be enough. That said, this genre is ambitious for a 48H game, but the current stuff is well done.

Little bug report: got a permanent earthquake because I did something with UI during one.

YOGO PATH by cesisco 2013-12-18T00:46:00

Wow, very impressive. It's rare to have a new jump mechanic and this one is really fun. Also works well with the generated levels. I loved the look and all its nice little details like the spotlights in the background. Bravo/

Round toe by Thecoolestnerdguys 2013-12-18T15:50:00

Funny idea. I didn't thought that any innovation was possible while keeping the tic-tac-toe rules. Next step: invisible moves!

The Last Rock by JaviCepa 2013-12-22T19:43:00

Very fun physic effect, and the pixel art make it really special. Almost missed the bulldozer (thanks comments). I would really like to play more of this.

You only get one arrow by tobbez 2013-12-18T15:43:00

More fun than it looks at first. Boss seems too hard for me (unless there is a hidden winning strategy?)

The Wizardry of Differentiation by mortus 2013-12-17T18:23:00

Fun and smooth impressive number of stuff on screen, really pleasing to kill and collect (only wish some magnet). The weapon variety was really cool.

Better Half by ocmu 2014-01-06T22:38:00

Nice game idea and well done. Is there a way to speed up the timer after collecting all coins?

Sugar Rush by ALP_Squid 2014-01-06T22:41:00

Crazy and hard to control, but the fit very well the sugar rush idea.

Love or gold by Copix 2013-12-17T01:02:00

Really weird control choice. The bullet push mechanic is a good idea but I miss a jump ability to use it correctly.

The Lone Tower by Masadow 2013-12-18T21:50:00

Simple but fun game. Nice variation on the tower defense genre and good use of the theme.

One-legged man by longloaf 2013-12-23T14:44:00

Funny take on the theme. Also good because games rarely focus in handicap. BTW the thrower was very hard.

Protoport by Und[0]ne Devs 2013-12-22T19:28:00

I like the idea and the execution is good but I am very bad a this game and can't get far :(. I suspect that it's because it needs a lot of anticipation and the traps change each time (usually it's a good thing, but here it's evil)

Unibrow by ViliX64 2013-12-22T19:01:00

A lot of contents and variety. The battery limits were a bit annoying but I the dimension idea was well done

One Seed by emoll 2013-12-23T14:32:00

I love procedural trees and those are nice. Not much gameplay, but the style has potential. I hope you did well at your exam, I love LD but studies and family are indeed more important.

lights out by Waterman7 2013-12-18T15:58:00

Impressive number of new good mechanics in that one bullet idea: giving more light when fired, the charged shoot (almost didn't notice it), the bouncing, the enemy trying to catch the bullet instead of you. Also visually well done.

Only One Chance by johnfn 2013-12-19T01:29:00

Love the art style and the tone (dialogue and music). Nice work.

Jump Chip by arkeus 2013-12-18T01:11:00

Great idea and superb arts with many fun little animations. Also nice to have new special stuff almost each level instead of just harder platforming. Hard to get remember which is which, but I found that using different hands help (one on letter, the other on arrow).

Stingtime for Hitler by hroon 2013-12-17T00:50:00

Quite weird at first, but after that it all makes sense and gives a good puzzle. The look and animation are very nice.

clic only by nicso 2013-12-22T19:09:00

I love the simple art style and its 3D effect. Main mechanic is strangely fun and the little twists are nice. Small request for 1-button game: add keyboard support (like space key) for tired finger.
