LD46 — Keep it alive

Displacement by ryannielson 2020-04-22T10:03:03Z

I like how you invented a new type of puzzles. I can't brute force a solution which means it's a really a well crafted puzzle. It's unique and at the same time it feels familiar so players will be able to think of ways to solve the level from his past knowledge of sliding blocks, Rubik's Cube. I didn't like the controls Q and E it works ok, but may be there something better to use? The music fits well, it's not distracting, and I was enjoying the audio while playing the game so there's no need to mute it and play another music if choose to.

Space Drone Guy by TechnoNugget 2020-04-22T13:36:15Z

It's an alright game. I love the pixel art, nice atmosphere. The first minutes of the game should keep the player invested to see what's next. Then give them bigger excitement. As a game jam, it has potential with your type of graphics. Keep doing what your doing and get better.

Tiny Fragments by Daniel Moreno 2020-04-22T06:37:02Z

Saw your game on Twitter and it's very interesting. I love pixel art (I made pixel art games too). Though I've seen this type of game in Flash games, I like the little touch like the character holding the next frame and pulling himself to get there. I know making level designs for this is such a hard task. Good job on it!

up in the sky by stuffed wombat 2020-04-22T06:25:02Z

You are the best developer for me right now. You just make all these interesting prototypes, games and everything you want to make and it's hella fun. I already played and gotten everything from your Steam game Guthwale. I played this on Newgrounds and got a lot of fun until I got stuck at the level where I'm supposed to swing / fling my way to the next platform?

Angst by Silas Reinagel 2020-04-21T12:30:06Z

as someone with anxiety I love the concept and the realness of the panic attack scene. got stuck on day 5 with nothing to interact but maybe I just get anxiety clicking the right stuff as it may trigger another panic attack scene :D

Angst by Silas Reinagel 2020-04-21T12:30:18Z

great game! I love the graphic style!

MACHINA by Harry Alissavakis 2020-04-22T12:13:11Z

I can't believe you can make an endless turn based tactics game and I think you just did! It's also very fun and clever! I like the defensive and offensive cards. It's like tetris tactics haha. Good job! I wish I can select the tile where the player is standing to select the player, since the the player is too thin, it's hard to select and move him. I love the character and robot designs, just perfect for what they're made for, blasting lasers! This is a great game not just for a game jam but a full pledged game!

Quackin' Eggs by Reid Willis 2020-04-22T12:03:59Z

Making the body vulnerable and the beak the offensive part of the duck makes it strategic plus the dash mechanic adds something to the gameplay. Finding eggs is hard though. I wish there's something else to get score which will compliment the dash body/beak mechanic.

Mutiny by Cataractar 2020-04-22T10:10:43Z

I like how you went innovative. The pirates looks really nice and funny. I like that there's is plank and mutiny. The theme fits well. Sadly, I didn't really get it. I'm sorry. I don't know how to play. It may have just been me. It may also be also because I have a long list of games to play. So I wanted to try the other games. It's about onboarding for me, making new players introduced to mechanics. Show don't tell. I saw the instructions and skipped it (my fault) but it would be better to make the players do what the game instructions are telling them instead.

P4R3NTing 101 by AndideBob 2020-04-22T10:27:22Z

I like how creative the game is. I can throw the baby to space lol. It looks like it's gonna be a fun multiplayer game. It reminds me of Overcooked. I also like how you make a simple task like taking care of babies and adding some science fiction stuff to it like robots and space. I find it very hard to understand how changing of diapers work. Babies crying also get to become annoying but I get that, it gets the players' attention. Aside from that, the humor is there, the controls is perfect, speed is perfect. I will definitely play it again and see what happens if I reach the timer's end.

Holy Plague by Adrien Dittrick 2020-04-22T06:23:22Z

Saw this game tweeted on Newgrounds. Played it and enjoyed the mechanic! Had a laugh when the angel fell to the ground. I'm not sure what's the intended gameplay though but I just destroyed the obvious, beasts, clouds etc

Night in the Garden by nikchernyakov 2020-04-22T13:03:52Z

Nice atmosphere and the goal is clear. I'm not sure why there's need to hold E to pick up and drop the fuel though. I also got a bug where I clipped in to the middle part and I can go under the bridge. I love the audio also and the patterns of the enemies, I get to taunt them then move so I can not get hit. Good simple game, good luck with it!

Job-Changing Janitor Fights Off Zombies And Tries To Save Patients At A Hospital by Grentacular 2020-04-22T09:45:57Z

I like the concept, I like how it fits the theme to keep all patients alive. I just found it hard to change classes, it's just too difficult for me on the first try. The onboarding process needs work, I suggest to let players play as janitor first, then give them instructions on how to change class next. Let them play as soldier, then have them play the full game as you intended. I think the graphics and music fits the game.

LEADER KEEP THEM ALIVE by Bastienre4 2020-04-22T12:48:34Z

Wow this game is just perfect. Except for the lack of checkpoint. But everything, the art style, the sound effects, ambience it makes the player feel like he's in actual control of a mission monitor. There's nothing more to add or remove from the interface. Everything is amazing. I also like how it got intense immediately, it's not just about launching and landing a rocket, but it's inspired by Apollo 13? I like how the developer spent his time on research and since I've watched and loved space movies, like The Martian, I could relate with some of the terms and topics discussed in the game like using Moon as slingshot (referenced in The Martian). I hope you can make this into a much bigger game with tons of missions, side quests and more. I also played Legal Dungeon so maybe you can get some inspiration and reference from that game to make it a much bigger game. Because the concept is really there. Run away with it and the money you'll get with this concept :D haha

Friendly Fire by very dark lord 2020-04-22T09:17:06Z

I love the game! At first I thought it's just gonna be another game where you look for wood, then put wood on fire to keep it alive. Instead I found myself playing a nice mini Metroidvania game with a fun rhythm mini-game. The humor is top-notch. There is a lot of meta fourth wall breaking humor here, the small NPC fire is the most hilarious. I also found out that you made the engine from scratch? The slopes are working well, platformer controls is tight!

Coronary Flypass by squirmonkey 2020-04-22T06:47:05Z

this is frustratingly hard and funny haha. This will do well on mobile I believe. and nice take on the drone aesthetic definitely best way of implementation with controls and flight!

Volty's Quest by Casey Macneil 2020-04-22T06:22:00Z

I saw your game and played it on Newgrounds! Love everything about it, I'm a sucker for pixel art platformer!

Remember, Apollo by AdamCYounis 2020-04-22T06:28:01Z

Saw your game from your stream! This is really well done and I love pixel art so much. This will do well on mobile if that's what you're asking during the stream. You just have to add an endless mode probably.

Flower Defense by yokuday 2020-04-22T10:46:14Z

This tower defense game is well made. I encountered no bugs. I didn't read the instructions but I got most of the mechanics because I played these type of games. I wish there was a button to scroll up and down or a scrollwheel text to show that there are more types of turrets and diggers. Other than those instructions which I could also just read in the controls section, I can say nothing bad about the game. The music and sound effects are also nice to the ears. I enjoyed playing I just got too confident with my turrets I left them to gather wood sticks but I got stumped by a potato bag giant zombie.

Happy Life by scalliondelight 2020-04-22T06:32:46Z

lol fun time management game! It went chaotic very early but it's fun. Gonna try it once more, I think the pet is too demanding haha

Confluence by Dandala88 2020-04-22T12:50:36Z

Nice sound effects, good controls. Not much to expect, just keep on making games!

Let's stick together by syo 2020-04-22T10:58:20Z

I like this new type of games that come out of game jams. There is definitely some strategy to the game and there might be more units later in the levels. I just got overwhelmed on level 3. I tried to replay levels 1 and 2 again but it seem it will take time for me to understand the units movement. I like the sound effects they fit well and the graphics is really nice for this type of game. The humor definitely got me into diving into the game. Will play this again later.

Flippy Fish by Doot 2020-04-22T09:35:17Z

This game has the best use (as of this time) of the theme Keep It Alive. It's very humorous and well done in terms of game design and code. I encountered no bugs. I like the anticipation graphic to indicate that the player will get hit at the next beat and where. I have nothing else to say, it's really nice! The aesthetic is also top-notch, because I've seen live fish struggling for their life when on the cutting board.

Rough Ship by WobbleBlocks 2020-04-22T13:30:09Z

It has potential being an FPS you have a good base there. But yeah I think it's confusing. I also dont get the appeal because it's an FPS. There's some problem when shooting lasers as it starts away from the barrel. Keep making games, I'm sure you can make more than FPS. You got the skill and ability to develop your types of games

S.L.I.M.E.S. Division by Yoshify 2020-04-22T11:52:46Z

I enjoyed the missile control mechanic. It's something that tests players skill in planning, hand to eye coordination and estimation. The upgrades are fun too, it's just that I sometimes forget it as I got to focused on the missile mechanic haha. I'd like to see a bigger game where you can have scientists unlock the upgrade that detects incoming meteors, unlocks new defenses and more. Also slimes that reproducde. I also feel I get punished for having less slimes as I don't get to earn as much? I like the risk-reward mechanic of controlling missiles and trying to hit meteors near the planet, it makes such an emotional moment where you not only failed recovering from the meteor hit but getting also hit by your own missiles. Funny. I like the polish you put in the game, it really is well made. Hope to see more of the game!

Hamloon by NoelOskar 2020-04-22T11:59:33Z

Simple game, hard to understand at first but once you get it you can easily avoid hitting the balloon. The incoming nails are also very easy to hit. I don't think I'll die anytime soon so I stopped playing the game. I like how there's new background as I went up, but it was just the view of the trees after a long while so I felt there's nothing new to be introduced in the game. It's a nice fun game to try though in this game jam. Keep it up!

Message by NoamRaz 2020-04-22T11:05:43Z

It's a short game but I like the graphical effects. The audio is nice too. I beat the game though or is that it? Is there something more? There's only press R to restart and ESC to exit to main munu in the final screen.

Green Space by stanlkm 2020-04-22T12:55:51Z

Looks promising! You can use an artstyle that will work for you if you don't have an artist. As of now it makes the game less appealing for players who are trying it or wants to try it. But keep it up, the upgrades seems to have a lot of thought put in. Love the concept.

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-21T05:57:16Z

Thanks meelo! We wanted to add a lot more but we started late in the game jam. We'll definitely consider to explore more with this concept after this.

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-21T05:58:21Z

@cristi-minai I actually wanted to add a social distancing meter in the game, where you need to move around to keep them away from each other at a certain distance. Didn't have time though and the platform distance I believe will make it harder.

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-21T12:28:23Z

@generic-games I actually learned about parallax just by using ortographic camera haha. that bug is weird, I'll see what's triggering this but my suspicion is that he got deattached while on clip with stairs.

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-22T03:02:35Z

Thank you @max-louis. We did enjoy making this. It's the artist's first game jam as well! It's her idea to put windows that light up when you get one person home, I think I can remove the number UI because of this too!

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-22T03:03:36Z

Thank you @tomas-selmeci the first title was Keep Them Alive which felt morbid so I changed it to Hope instead

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-22T04:59:12Z

Thanks @iamscissors! Yes I already have new levels in mind but we started late in the game jam so I couldn't make those levels in the final hour. The line color is Unity's default color when something is wrong with the material. And there is, I wasn't able to fix it during the time. I'm gonna take a second look on this

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-22T05:00:25Z

Thanks @xel! I imagined a soft satisfying sound to go with the game so I leaned on whoosh sound effect for jump and clicky poppy sound effects to go with the music. The chain is what I loved with the idea too! I'll explore what I can do with this chain combo mechanic

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-22T06:34:21Z

@amerigo-gazaway cool! haha I'm gonna try your game. I wanted to add a social distancing meter but thought it would take a lot of time from the game jam allowed hours. Maybe I'll explore about this in the future especially the chain mechanics. Might try a highscore type of game

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-22T06:45:45Z

Thanks @joh. Oh that happened again, I thought I fixed that before finished all the levels. It's probably caused by some weird combinations of detaching, reattaching and sending home. I'm going to check on this again and see how I can make it work infinitely better. I plan on making some highscore type based game on this chain mechanic.

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-23T06:20:32Z

Thanks a lot for the feedback! The collissions are caused by overlapping platforms, they are fixed. @fabien-parisot

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-23T06:21:32Z

@doot Thank you! I've always wanted to make a game relevant to today's pandemic and I wanted it to be as you say not oppressive. Stay safe!

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-23T11:47:35Z

Thank you @grentacular! We started late so I couldn't make as much levels as I wanted.

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-25T10:44:12Z

Thank you @armani03k that's a really nice and funny video haha. you completed it!

Keep Hope Alive by keybol 2020-04-25T10:44:56Z

@thedouche my idea was that the ending tells the player you don't have to do it anymore as the ones you've helped are already on their way home. Thank you for your feedback!
