The game looks amazing. The idea behind it is really nice too, it was really hard at the beginning

ssstormy 2020-04-19 20:59

Solid. Had fun.

Was happy to see that there were some physics puzzles in the middle :)

I wish I could have fullscreened it as I found my cursor going outside the bounds quite frequently :(.

wilson-taylor 2020-04-20 01:30

This is sick as hell! I wish I had something more insightful to say but it's juicy and entertaining!

dragonxvi 2020-04-20 11:23

Great little physics game, love the idea and execution! Congrats!

cobear25 2020-04-20 13:35

Cool stuff, very fun and frustrating at the same time.

gimblll 2020-04-20 15:29

One of the best I've played in this jam, really fine idea. Simple and fun.

thedashdude 2020-04-20 18:39

Fun game. I liked the sfx, and controlling the plant was really fun. Felt a little too precise at times for how it played. Solid and complete.

brandon-js-lea 2020-04-20 23:49

Forgot to add in my newgrounds review, it'd be nice if you didn't have to use the keyboard to restart when everything else is mouse based. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why you need to do anything to restart when it could do so automatically.

actyl 2020-04-21 01:13

Beautiful, weird, wonderful

dreamcastgh0st 2020-04-21 04:28

Fun game, as per usual, the physics and gameplay are very unique, polished and fun. I have a soft spot for those mouth-made sound effects in the end too, and the sound of your plant growing is wonderful. It's not often you see a game where you get less colorful, less powerful, etc as the game progresses, but it facilitates the difficulty curve and does a decent job communicating the theme. I do wish the theme was more evident in the moment-to-moment gameplay, as opposed to the overall structure, but I have very little to complain about with this game! Nice job.

gal-afik 2020-04-21 15:12

This is a fun and really addicting little game. I really love the unique mechanic and great take on the theme! There is a weird "thing" going on with the background. When the character grows, it seems to flash as if it's shaking randomly, which is a bit jarring. Otherwise, I really love it!

geegaz 2020-04-21 15:40

I'm amazed how you always manage to come up with such original ideas, and a great execution. Every. single. time :D

rigdonware 2020-04-21 16:05

This was incredible. Great job. The graphics were simple and the gameplay was difficult and made you think. Such a great job!

john-snyder 2020-04-21 16:39

You did a really good job with this game with levels that are challenging but fair. I did find the audio for when you're moving a bit too loud and annoying when I heard it for too long. I would suggest that maybe adding variety to the noise so it doesn't get too repetitive. Overall great job!

garygreen 2020-04-21 20:05

This was fun. Such a quirky idea. The movement mechanics were tricky to get to grips with, but also worked well once I'd worked it out. Great work. :)

manimal 2020-04-21 22:51

Nice simple idea, may it has mobile potential. I want so see more about this concept :).

keybol 2020-04-22 06:25

You are the best developer for me right now. You just make all these interesting prototypes, games and everything you want to make and it's hella fun. I already played and gotten everything from your Steam game Guthwale. I played this on Newgrounds and got a lot of fun until I got stuck at the level where I'm supposed to swing / fling my way to the next platform?

blinry 2020-04-22 20:01

Lovely! Figuring out the movement felt fun and was not too hard. Feels like a mixture of Snakebird and Mushroom 11! I liked that it was so short and sweet, and hat a bit of a story. Hard to find anything to criticize, huh – maybe I would've enjoyed softer sound effects, and some music. The "strange plants" mechanic felt underused. Thanks for making this! :)

julienlussiez 2020-04-22 20:35

I had fun playing it, it's a very intersting concept. It can be a little bit frustrating sometimes but it's a part of the game. Good entry for this jam !

dziek 2020-04-23 13:36

Loved this. I've had it open the last few days to see if I can finally get any further, but I think I'll have to admit defeat on what I'm guessing is the "swing" level. Still, proper enjoyed this. I would have liked to have a reset on the mouse too, but that's a minor thing. Good work!

pietro-ferrantelli 2020-04-23 20:02

Woooow amazing concept and game overall Josh ! You're really the best gamedev I know for coming up super quickly with wonderful and unique games. Your work is so inspiring and motivating ! Perfect score !

2020-04-27 14:27

Wow this is amazing, Im wondering how you would have achieved these mechanics, could you please educate me how i can do this i really like this idea, perhaps if you followed a tutorial you can guide me to that or just share core logic behind this movement?

fancypants 2020-04-27 20:23

This is great! One of my favorites so far.

stuffed-wombat 2020-04-28 13:54

to the anon comment:

i cant send you anything if i dont know how to reach you!

karanveer 2020-04-28 19:14

This is Art. Looks simple yet there's more to this than meets the eye. Perfect balance.

To the anonymous, I think the creator has used Joints system with gravity changing according to scale and spawn rate? Correct me if Im wrong? After playing the game even I'm slightly intrigued. (Feel free to educate some of us too)

I couldnt participate in LDJAM this time but I have been an avid player of some of recent LD46 games and this one excels. Verdict: If someone asked me How would I define this game in 3 words? "A Freakin Masterpiece".

stuffed-wombat 2020-05-01 17:39

aww thanks :))

i just use the box2d physics that come with the engine. Every part of the snakething is connected to every other part of the snake thing with joints! its pretty janky, but it works ^^

ddrkirbyisq 2020-05-03 04:11

Simple yet interesting. The movement is "janky" as you said, but it really works! Great example of an LD game done well :)

karanveer 2020-05-03 08:52

Alright that is great! Do you have a gaming portfolio of your games, I'd like to play more of your creations and also I'd like to get in touch with you.

besto 2020-05-04 07:53

Super cool mechanic that was a ton of fun to mess around with. my only complaint really is that the earlier levels have much more freedom to experiment and find interesting ways to do things, while the later levels you cant grow as much which makes things much less interesting. still very solid all around.

chrisdugne 2020-05-06 21:17

nice idea!

cdunham 2020-05-06 21:40

Neat little game. The main mechanic was really cool and the level design was good. For a compo I can't really think of anything that can be improved. Good job!

01010111 2020-05-11 19:02

A really remarkable game! I love everything about it, great work!

mike-cullingham 2020-05-11 20:19

Fantastic game. Really unique and fun. Couldn't get past one level (with "sun" in the title I think), but I enjoyed playing this one.

zzox 2020-05-12 01:11

very innovative. dug it

backurio 2020-05-12 19:52

Really innovative game. Enjoyed playing it, but I just couldn't get past the level with the purple circle where you have to swing up (or right). Neither of the ways was possible for me to make...

good-enough 2020-05-17 16:38

I beat it! This was super cool, and was like you stuck the character from the classic Snake into the world of Floating Point. Some of the levels were pretty difficult, but that's the way to maximize play time in Ludum Dare, so it was fine.

If you do a post-jam version, I think that it would make the game funner to have larger levels that are easier to progress through. The movement mechanics can be really smooth and fun when you can avoid obstacles, and jumping through the air is fun as well, but if it's super hard to reach the next point, it kind of breaks the game flow.
