LD38 — A Small World

The Treachery of Game Dev by ratking 2017-04-30T11:29:38Z

This is a nice little game machine you got going on here [: It does a good job showing people how games are made, which is really cool!

**pros:** Very innovative idea great music and sound npc interaction/dialogue was well done and even though it was simple it didn't seem lackluster Educational experience! :D well polished

**cons:** It wasn't very game-y for a video game /: the theme was kind of there but very vaguely. Was it supposed to be because the gameMachine ^tm was really small? lighting was annoyingly dark and too high contrast

Wrong Delivery by g12345 2017-04-28T19:38:10Z

Good stuff man, I enjoyed it a lot, here is a list of pros/cons

**pros:** tight controls, easy to use, I never had trouble jumping from one thing to another awesome sense of progression, it felt like I accomplished things much more diversity than I expected, was surprised when I saw the ceiling dudes, and I was expecting there to be only two different room styles but there was like four. item collecting - it works well, not just thrown in as a last-ditch effort, each item seemed like it was very useful and opened a whole new door of possibilities level design, took advantage of the abilities that you get

**cons:** not very polished no audio - even super simple audio would add to the experience it was annoying how the enemies took more than one hit to kill doesn't really fit the theme if you don't read the backstory it's lacking in effects, the bullets just appear and disappear, when you die you just instantaneously teleport back to your checkpoint.

also the character walk animation wasn't working for me, it only showed one frame. All in all, good job.

Cowmets by NickZangus 2017-05-02T22:50:11Z

Haha this is adorable. It looks and feels very well polished and the music fits perfectly.

Although right now I only have a track pad so I couldn't really play it properly. I will update this post when I can.

Hopper by Porcus_Pie 2017-05-06T19:18:10Z

Hey, would you look at that, you made a game called "Hopper" also!

Okay, on to the critique:

**The good** over all, the game worked really well The mechanics seemed to fit the atmosphere the audio and visuals painted a great relaxing mood within the game the puzzles were a good difficulty

**The bad** the floaty gravity was really annoying to me also the non-bordered window was kind of ugly it was a little too short imo, but you can only do so much in two days

God job. Hope you had fun and learned a lot [:

Planet Heist by conk 2017-05-01T23:03:35Z

This was a fun little game. Well done!

**the good** The graphics were very well done, I'd only hoped to see a few animations The music was also very nice and fitting it felt good to finish a level, well thought out strategy

**the bad** everything seemed like it jumped around too much, I don't really know how you would go about fixing this though. It's kind of the nature of the game and strategy. wasn't very fitting for the theme, it seems like you just threw in the fact that you're stealing a tiny planet as a last ditch effort.

Very impressive and good looking game over all, in my opinion. Good job

Realmpusher by danbolt 2017-05-01T22:45:12Z

I really like this. I went into it thinking it was going to be over complicated for some reason, but once I understood what to do it was pretty exciting.

**the good** The main mechanic is really cool, kind of mind bending. The graphics are *on point* and everything fits well together. It has a distinctly polished and finished feeling, like this is exactly what you had in your head when you started making it. The music was fitting.

**the bad** The sound effects were really annoying at times, namely at the beginning with the dialogue, and whenever you collected an orb.

Fantastic job, one of my favorites so far!

Bumble Jumble by bram_ve 2017-05-01T12:34:23Z

Really cool atmosphere and world to explore. The premise doesn't make much sense though. Audio and visuals were nice and fit well together. You used way too much bloom though, maybe tone it down a bit.

gameplay-wise, I felt like I missed something, was there any reason to be shooting? Also the honeycombs seemed like they would fall immediately after you picked them up most of the time.

I liked it, but not really as a game. More of an atmospheric world exploration simulation. Very pretty.

Hopper by TechnoNugget 2017-04-30T00:26:33Z

Hey thanks Lars! I'll be sure to check out your game too!

Also just so you know, the code you were looking at was actually transpiled code generated by BabelJS. The code that I wrote was written in javascript ES6, which isn't compatible with a lot of browsers(but also a lot more understandable to read and write), so I transpiled it to ES5. I just uploaded the source code though, it is on the itch.io page available for download if your curious about what my source actually looks like.

Planets of Zoltcon by terryg 2017-05-01T12:57:22Z

Hey Terry! It's Isaiah from Tinkermill last friday. I'd love to give your guys' game a shot, but Unity's webGL plugin doesn't work on my pc for some reason. Do you have an executable build for windows?

Pie Planet : Octopus flavour by Bomb-X 2017-04-30T17:50:40Z

It was a good game with lots of depth and strategy involved. The only quarrel I have is that gathering resources takes a really long time at the beginning of the game.

But other than that, great graphics and atmosphere, good audio, very well polished, Good job!

Also fits the theme very well

Conquer Earth by Lars DK 2017-04-30T01:04:27Z

Hey man. Nice game. A **ton** more depth than I was expecting. However, I would encounter bugs at around turn 150 - 175 where it would get progressively less responsive and then the screen would just go black and stay that way.

Anyway, about the game: it had a good sense of progression and strategy, but I felt like the polish was lackluster. When it first started up it was impressive with the menu screen and such but the gameplay itself seemed a bit clunky.

Conquer Earth by Lars DK 2017-04-30T10:13:29Z

I'm using the latest version of Google Chrome, When I try to open the console to see if there's an error it doesn't open up. This usually happens if the webpage has a stack overflow error, or it's stuck in an infinite loop or something like that and it runs out of memory. Anyway it's weird because I've got a pretty beefy computer(8 gigs memory), so I wouldn't think that it could be running out of memory.

Small Board by renatopp 2017-05-01T14:58:19Z

The game is really fun. But it seems like it's pointless to fight the enemies, they are way too strong and numerous, or maybe I'm missing something about the combat. The only way I could win was by rushing to the king and coming back to the castle before any enemies killed me. I would have one character stay back and draw the enemies, while the other just rushed.

**the good** great graphics and artistic style, and very polished looking. good gameplay concept, encourages players for having good strategy

**the bad** in-game tips would be much nicer than that cheat sheet displayed in the beginning. not enough variety in strategy. I think having different levels with fewer enemy spawners and larger areas would add a **ton** to replayability.

I hope you enjoyed your Ludum Dare experience [:

BUS DRIVER by Rombus 2017-04-30T01:11:23Z

Cute little game and a lot more fun than I was expecting. I found it to be just hilarious I don't know why. Maybe the fact that I just was murdering a bunch of kids the whole time haha

Art was great I loved the colored pencil graphics, although the pixel font didn't really go too well with it Driving felt tight and easy, I basically just held down the boost the whole time though the houses seemed like their collision boxes were a bit too big you also could have benefited from some particles or some sort of effect when the you picked up the kids

I didn't get past ~~level 9~~ level 5, geez don't know why I wrote level 9

All in all I would definitely consider it a successful gamejam game. Good job!

3D Vector Space Cab by Fell_TRSi 2017-04-30T17:24:15Z

The graphics are great! took me a while to figure out what I was doing though because you die so quickly if you do nothing the collisions were a little bit off sometimes also other than that, I'd say it fits the them very well and is fun to play

Good job!

Universal Journey by mundell 2017-05-01T11:31:00Z

I like this. The mechanics in it are actually very similar to the mechanics in my game. What integration methods to calculate the gravitational pull? I imagine it was just Euler considering anything else for an LD game would just be overkill.

Anyway on to the feedback:

**pros:** looks beautiful, love the pixel perfect graphics and particle effects. good concept, didn't feel plain or anything, it was something I hadn't seen before. NUKE POWERED PLANET THRUSTERS!!

**cons:** the tracer that showed where you were gonna shoot off to was very hard to see, it should have been brighter. It also seems like it didn't always aim in the direction of the mouse by the time I got to the last level, I only had 10% of the planet left so it was impossible /: the reset button sometimes was off the screen and you couldn't press it, if you died at the right edge of the screen

also the music was really good but I can't put that on the 'pros' list because it was *so damn quiet*, I had to turn my volume up to 55 to hear it and it was still really quiet.

all in all, successful game in my eyes. good job [:

Galactic Girl and the Puzzle Planets by GerardB 2017-05-01T13:42:59Z

**pros:** art style was good planet/orbital physics worked well I liked the music a lot puzzles were fun even if a bit simple nice polished feel

**cons:** movement was very clunky no walking animations, it felt weird just sliding around the planets felt like there was no need to go into a planet, maybe have each puzzle reward you somehow?

I don't think I'd play it again but overall it's a nice little game [:

Slightly Angry Max by Takusan 2017-05-01T18:10:45Z

Nice little game, It was very well polished and action packed. the drops could be a little bit more evenly placed out, but overall it's a very nice game for just a weekend.

Glop Plots by Carsen D. 2017-05-01T22:24:22Z

Concept seems to work, controls are a bit annoying. It's one of those "cookie clicker" type games which I'm not a huge fan of but it has it's niche I suppose.

Good work either way.

Skylets by Dink_Dunk 2017-05-01T14:40:17Z

I have no idea what in the hell I was doing, but I sure had fun doing it.

The collisions were a bit off, the character would get stuck on the edges a lot, and due to the nature of this game, there were a lot of edges.

The music was great. really pumped you up and was intense.

I played through it 3 times, high score: 93 I didn't find the secret planet /:

would be nice if it saved your highest score and showed you your total and high score throughout the whole time your playing so you can try and actively reach it. as well as high scores for each individual planet.

Over all I really liked it and spent much more time than I thought I would [:

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Shall they up? by LeReveur 2017-12-19T06:25:00Z

lotta fun, little polish

Infested by Megalink 2017-12-07T13:42:13Z

Hey nice lil' game. Quality experience, very polished and good looking. The variation in enemies was also impressive. Every shot and move you made had impacting audiovisual feedback, Good job!

Monolith by Sir Magic 2017-12-07T10:37:02Z

I liked this game alot, it was very satisfying to climb up the tower and crush enemies and collect coins. My only beef was with the collisions, they seemed very off sometimes, and sometimes they would make you flip around and other times they wouldn't. Either way nice entry, and I really like the graphics style too!

Prinsen Gulden by King Kujito 2017-12-07T13:15:20Z

I liked the visual style and mood of the game alot. it was very rewarding to get points for some reason. Though I couldn't handle the platforming physics /: it was frustrating that you took *sooooo* long to accelerate and then as soon as you let off the key, you would stop instantaneously. Over all pretty nice entry though, congrats!

**edit**: I should note I was playing the compo entry since that was what I wanted to base my rating off of, I might come back later and try the newer versions though.

Soul Chase by aemiliu5 2017-12-07T12:06:06Z

I can tell you had fun making this game, which I'm glad for and I like that alot [:

but as for the quality of the game itself, it felt pretty low. the thing that bugged me the most was probably the platforming physics, it would have helped a **bunch** to have a variable jump arc, and also the camera was very close to the player so I never knew if I was about to jump into a spike pit or not. Anyway I hope you had a great LD Jam!

Tourist Chaos by MestreRothLD 2017-12-07T10:13:11Z

Awwwh hell yeah

I got third with 10750! score.png

fun lil strategy game, and very well polished, the UI could have used a bit more polishing, but over all its an awesome submission. Congrats!

L.A.V.A. series L.A.M.P. edition VS THE WORLD by kazuo256 2017-12-07T14:07:00Z

Well you certainly accomplished a lot in such a little time. Only thing I would say you needa work on is the GUI, things like loading bars and context menus, as it wasn't very pretty. Otherwise the game was very impressive. Good job.

Cardhoard by HacksawUnit 2017-12-04T15:12:06Z

I'm sticking with my high of 13440 [:

sweet little game, the controls seem a bit odd and don't feel natural to me but other than that this is an awesome lil game. Good job!

I loved the graphic style and the combos especially, they made you want to get that rainbow 2.5k points every time!

Ghosth - Annoying Ghosts by Crowno 2017-12-13T07:11:40Z

Damn, that's some quality content for work in just a weekend. Color me impressed. The graphics were extremely good looking and the polish was undeniable. Good job.

I only have 2 complaints:

* the fact that there was no death sound really irked me for some reason

* I could not figure out how to get past the mirror blocks. I gave up after about 10 minutes of fiddling around.

Overall the pros very heavily squash the cons though. Great entry!

Bounce House by Steven Adams 2017-12-05T09:22:16Z

good fun, though sometimes got a bit laggy. The graphics don't really do it for me, but it has a ridiculous concept that I love. Over all I enjoyed the experience, so good job!

Spiders in da house by Ittai Manero 2017-12-05T23:30:02Z

high score of 2854!

game was a bit glitchy, my head always got stuck in the ceiling and the collision in general seemed pretty bad. Good job otherwise though!

APOLLO v-1.0 by grey 2017-12-05T07:23:44Z

Perfect take on the theme, simple and concise graphics, and the music was great! The gameplay was pretty fun too, I played quite a few times and got a high score of 50

Galactic Avaritia by Zatherz 2017-12-05T13:20:10Z

nice polished game, but unfortunately the screen flows off the edge of my monitor, so I can't see part of the HUD when I play /:

Running With Scissors by Daze 2017-12-05T23:50:13Z

Hey, my game had a similar concept, except with more guns and violence! :D Good job. The graphics were A+ on point! it was a little weird moving around carbon copies of what looked like the exact same kid though, a little bit of variation woulda helped

Stealy by Grentacular 2017-12-07T12:58:50Z

haha this game was hilarious for a good amount of time I was exclusively stealing lava lamps. 10/10 would steal more lava lamps

Gladiator Monsters by BenBurgh 2017-12-05T08:06:23Z

It was a funny game and a fun concept but the gameplay was poor. It didn't seem like I was doing any damage when I hit them. and it seemed too hard to hit them with the short range. my high score was only 380

My favorite part of this game was going into the options and turning the graphics off and then getting all confused and having to alt-f4 out of there. That gave me a good laugh

the concept was great, you could have a pretty good game if there was some visual feedback from hitting the enemies or knockback or something.

Fiscal Dungeon by Tom Panton 2017-12-05T23:15:18Z

made it to the 5th floor boss, killed the boss, but then died by one of the gem spitters. Good little game, graphics were nice and easy to understand, good job

Sally's Dark Adventure by Nia 2017-12-07T12:22:57Z

Cute little adventure and a funny story, but the gameplay was very unpolished. The concept was there and could have been good if it was more smoothed out, but as it is nothing felt like it had any punch to it.

Bloody Pop-ups! by CSdoesCS 2017-12-05T08:22:32Z

bahaha that was hilarious "embarrassed by your fang size?". in terms of the mood and the graphics and the audio, everything blended together really well.

pros:

* graphics were great and fit together well * audio was just as annoying as real life pop ups * "hot ancient undead in your area"

cons:

* couldn't read all the pop ups quick enough * no goals to reach

Video Games by Bastienre4 2017-12-07T11:09:39Z

Holy guacamole, man. If this game doesn't win I'm gonna be mad. Seriously my favorite game so far, so polished and pretty. I love it. Scoreboard makes it much more goal oriented. The Audio was **AMAZING**, the multiple tracks fit together so well and somehow it seemed like the graphics were dancing to it all. 10/10 would bang

Busy Room by chinykian 2017-12-07T11:45:33Z

Wow, I just played like 50 rounds and managed to score a high of 26. This is extremely addicting. I gotta say, I wasn't expecting much from the screencaps, but this has gotta be one of my favorite games I've played so far, if not my favorite. The color scheme was beautiful also and I loved how the audio track's bpm increased the more diamonds(or wahtever they were) you collected. Good job, solid game.

LD46 — Keep it alive

JarHeads by Aurel300 2020-04-27T05:43:09Z

YES! This has got to be one of my favorite LD46 games that I've played so far. So polished it's practically sparkling. I worked my way up the scoreboard to 2nd place! (Technostalgic: 870480)

I didn't even know you made a game when I was watching you and Danae's stream, I'm so glad you left a comment so I could come check it out!!

The MUSIC is **SO GOOD**. Did you compose it? I love it! Especially the main menu music! I've tried to keep the game running in the background just so I could keep the beats playing, but it seems like the tab needs focus in order for it to play correctly :(

I don't think I really have anything bad to say about it.. Maybe it would be nice if it was a bit more obvious when the tiles that are about to have bullets run over them? It got kinda hectic and hard to tell when the screen was filled with them. The small arrows sometimes just weren't enough. But other than that, awesome job man!!

Astrodrift by Flaterectomy 2020-04-21T06:56:50Z

10/10 would bounce off of dead space porcupines and cacti until I suffocate again. Also though that last level was killer. Good job you made a timeless piece of artwork 🎉

Keep The Vibe Alive (VR) by killthealias 2020-04-22T06:02:13Z

This is really well done, it's a very contained experience obviously but but I'm still amazed that you managed to make a decent looking environment in vr. The texture and model for the player's hands, and the rigging was spot on, like HL:A level detail. Seriously good job with that, also The interaction with physics objects feels really good and very natural, which is quite rare in most other VR games I've played.

I do think it could have benefited a lot from having some more clutter around the environment to interact with, like more books on the bookshelf, for example.

But other than that the game and it's level of detail was very impressive. I also enjoyed the music a lot, I think my favorite track was "To Study", so good job on the music for sure!

Also it didn't really fit the theme too well, as there was no pressure to make you feel like you had to keep the vibe going by finding the next track before the previous one ended or something, but honestly I'm glad there wasn't. As it stands right now it's just a very chill experience, and hearing you speak to the player and play the acoustic track was a really nice touch that just added to the vibe.

It took me a while to find the secret track also, which made it feel more rewarding when I did. I admit I couldn't find it at first so I just threw everything out the window and then looked behind me and it was there. Unfortunately I was unable to hear the record at that point because the speakers were out of the window along with everything else, so I had to restart the game to play the record with speakers.

Also, I used the Vive headset with Vive wands for controllers if you are wondering.

ADRENA-LINE by managore 2020-04-21T09:33:24Z

This is... just amazing.. Like seriously this has got be be my favorite implementation of procedural generation that I've seen yet. And the gameplay is so simple and to the point but so satisfying. I don't think I've ever requested this before, but please port this to mobile. This would be an amazing mobile game.

Space Drone Guy by TechnoNugget 2020-04-22T00:23:11Z

@peachtreeoath Hey Calvin!! I didn't know you were going to be doing LD this time around. Thanks for playing though, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Its funny that you say you end up using the radar to snipe because I often found myself doing that also! I think the main reason for this is because the game runs at such a low resolution, I considered upscaling to a higher standard, but I was doing all my work on a 720p monitor, so I couldn't really upscale too much without changing the aspect ratio

Space Drone Guy by TechnoNugget 2020-04-22T06:41:45Z

test

Space Drone Guy by TechnoNugget 2020-04-22T17:00:42Z

@peachtreeoath yeah the ai kinda just wanders around until they come within a certain range of the player or hiveship. most of the time they just drift out of screen and despawn before that happens. But yes, AI was definitely one of the more difficult aspects of this game, getting them to work with the physics was quite finnicky.

Space Drone Guy by TechnoNugget 2020-04-23T04:55:41Z

@lectvs hey thanks a bunch man, I hadn't even bothered trying to fix it yet because I'm still recuperating from the weekend, but this actually worked for me and now the itch.io webpage has no input bugs :)

Food Chuck by PeachTreeOath 2020-04-22T00:17:25Z

This is my favorite game of yours that I've played so far!! Awesome work man! I especially enjoyed the little voice that announced each item every time you switched. Hearing 🎵**rat stick**🎵 or 🎵**fish**🎵 every time you swapped to that item just reminded me of the absurdity of the whole situation. One thing I would say is that I often found myself facing backwards more often than forwards so I never really noticed when I got to a new level, or that there even were different levels until I saw it one time by coincidence. I just thought completing the 10 orders gave you extra fuel or something.

The art Is also great! I'm always impressed with jam games that have decent 3d models implemented.

Battery Panic by HacksawUnit 2020-04-21T19:29:00Z

Playing this game is like eating rainbow sherbet but for your eyes and ears instead of your taste buds. But also dang does it get tense. I got to level 12 a couple times but was unable to progress any further. Dat music doe. 25_3. so goood.

Tetris-likes are always a fun puzzle type game to make, I also tried my hand at a tetris spin off a few years ago and had a blast making it.

I know you said you didn't have time for it but having a scoring system would be amazing for this game.

OtherworldlyFlavors by erebus 2020-04-23T05:50:16Z

I was pleasantly surprised to find this game to be very well balanced. I had to play through it 3 or 4 times to finish it, and each time I could tell I was benefiting from the knowledge I gained the previous round. As far as text based adventures go, I'd say this was pretty enjoyable for me and well designed.

It would have been nice to have some sound effects and maybe a looping music track that depended on the current health of the plant / corruption of the player, and maybe some more flashy vfx.

Also one thing bugged me was the UI box that kept sliding up from the bottom of the screen moves slightly to the left as it comes up and slightly to the right as it goes down.

But I still quite enjoyed it, it was interesting enough to play through a few different to see what would happen to each party as you gave them more and more fruit. Good job!

Medically Inaccurate by Emperor Eagle 2020-04-25T18:16:57Z

Nice! After playing a few times I got to 5:06 with 13070 points. I accidentally right clicked too many times and gave all my health to the heart and then I just disappeard :(

It was quite a fun game! Maybe a bit rough around the edges but I enjoyed the experience a lot! I Think one thing I would change is maybe put the health containers on a separate physics layer that doesn't collide with the bullets so you don't end up shooting the health pickups to the other side of the map.

The music was great, the sound effects were satisfying, the particle effects were nice, fun gameplay too, just needs a bit of polish. Great job man! :)

LAIKA by m-trigo 2020-04-26T20:20:51Z

I thought the first couple times I won, that I actually lost. Because the end screen is mostly in some other language and also your car is on the second to last node when you win, not the last one. Or maybe I did lose, I'm not sure, but my car still had some health left in each category both times so I think I won. Idk lol maybe make that a little bit more obvious?

Either way the game was very polished other than that and a funny and enjoyable experience. So, good job :)

Null and Void by Polyethyleneglykol 2020-04-21T08:36:44Z

I **love** the aesthetic. Maybe a bit too much bloom, but damn. Honestly I feel the best part of this game was just exploring the city, and all the moving parts and how you're able to interact with them is just 👌 spot on. This whole level is something I would absolutely love to see more of. The one thing I would say though is that the player's momentum is a bit wonky, I find that I kept trying to let go of 'w' thinking I would continue to coast through the air only to be stopped and drop straight down.

Turtle Daddy by dummydojo 2020-04-22T01:02:32Z

This game was great. I got to wave 6 a couple times but couldn't advance any further than that. Everything just felt so natural and intuitive, from the movement to being able to pick up a turtle by throwing your shield at him. Plus the baby turtles were too cute, I was legitimately upset when they got killed.

It was satisfying to unlock each gate and complete a level, but I would say it's a bit rough around the edges. Particularly in terms of the controls, and shooting. I found that very frequently (most often if the ball was still rolling) when I tried to line up and shoot the ball, it would slightly nudge the ball to the left or right instead of actually shooting it where I was aiming. As a result I felt that a lot of the times I lost, it was because of technical glitches like this instead of me actually messing up which felt a bit unfair.

In terms of the idea of the game, I think is something very fresh and new as a concept. Simple enough to pick up quickly, but strategic enough to not get boring. I could see it translating very well to a mobile game. Being able to flick the dinger with a touch screen and score a goal sounds like it could be quite enjoyable. I also think you did a great job with the atmosphere and feel of the game. The background and the effects and the choice of music all really fit pretty well together.

Good job! keep up the good work!

Apple Panick by peterfiftyfour 2020-04-25T18:30:19Z

Honestly I thought the music in the main menu was really cool. It made music whenever I hovered over any buttons and it made me feel like a musician lol. Graphics style was also very interesting, great mix of 2 and 3 dimensions. It was a bit unclear that you were supposed to throw the food off the edge to feed the beast, but maybe it said that somewhere and I just missed it.

Life of a Battery by EOShadows 2020-05-03T05:31:10Z

The polish in this game was awesome! I liked the aesthetic a lot, I'm a huge sucker for pixel art and the player animation looked really nice.

It looks like this game is almost a canvas for tons of other ideas that could build off of the sort of "pressed for time" sort of feel you get from your character's battery life constantly ticking down and there's nothing you can really do to stop it. It gives the whole game a sort of hectic struggle kind of vibe, except it lacked some of the obstacles that really would have made it hectic.

Navigating the levels felt pretty nice, but it wasn't enough of a challenge to make me feel like I had to hurry up and get to the next charging station before my battery ran out. I think adding some obstacles, like maybe some enemies or puddles of liquid that you have to avoid otherwise it causes you to short-circuit and lose all your battery life, would have really added to the feel of "danger" that otherwise felt a bit lacking.

Although maybe you were trying to approach it in a sort of way that was supposed to make the character feel like they had to master the movement mechanics to get around the level efficiently enough to reach the charging stations in time? Maybe it's just because I play way too many platformers but I feel like the movement was maybe a bit too simple to make me feel like it was a real challenge to do that.

In terms of presentation, the UI was spot on, there were a few mismatched fonts (pixel font vs non pixel), but all in all it looked really good. I opened the game and was immediately impressed with the main menu screen and the fact that there were 4 different menu selections you could choose from.

I first selected "How to play" and the screen that it led me to there I feel had a nice UI and look to it, it really fit with the fonts in the main menu, even if the tutorial itself could have benefited from some visual aid, it still felt like it matched the mood of the game's initial presentation. From there I went back to the main menu. When I started the first level I was relieved to see that it had basic instructions that showed me the controls. However, I feel like you should definitely mention that double jumping is a thing in this game, because I didn't realize that at first and it took me a few lives to figure it out.

Anyway this was a great submission for your first LD!! I hope I see you participating in some of the future events, keep up the good work!

Square Loves Circle! by meelo 2020-05-02T17:39:14Z

This was fun and super cute. I'm surprised I beat it tbh, I didn't think I'd ever get past that level with 3 switches and you had to kinda navigate through a bit of a maze before the ball rolls off the right of the screen.

The concept was good and it fit the theme perfectly. Although I feel like the level design was very restricted by being limited to a single screen, if there was a dynamic camera system and maybe some checkpoints, you could do some really elaborate levels that I think would be awesome. The controls were a bit sticky at times with the physics, but most of the time it worked pretty well. The only thing I really had a gripe with was the jumping, it was annoying that the vertical velocity was dampened when you jumped while you were next to a wall.

With a bit of polish and a few more levels, I feel like this could be a pretty good looking product. Good job!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

improbability engine by Aurel300 2021-05-16T19:32:09Z

Another outstanding game! Surprised to see this one on itch.io instead of your usual thenet.sk. The only real issue I had was that final rubix cube challenge, imo rubix cubes are boring and frustrating, I tried for about 10 minutes before just skipping it.

The amount of polish in this title was outstanding, especially with the visuals, story and humor. Great job!!

Check Port for Moisture by TechnoNugget 2021-05-03T00:24:03Z

@peachtreeoath thanks, I thought the levels definitely were pretty tense toward the end too, one of the other team members did the level design and I couldn't even beat it until after we'd submitted it lmao

and nice catch with that bug! I never noticed it before you pointed it out.

One-Butt Alien Corridor by PeachTreeOath 2021-05-02T22:35:06Z

Damn, this is definitely a challenge. The strategy is hard to get down, but rewarding when you figure it out and are able to pull it off effectively. I found extra hp and the grenades to be the most useful upgrade. It took me a second to realize the medium size enemies explode on contact, and the larger size enemies were pretty tough too.

I couldn't make it past level 4, but I liked that you could retry the level without having to restart from the beginning every time.

I think that the atmosphere and mood could greatly benefit from some ambient sound effects and some music, but since the graphical style is more tactical and less realistic, I feel that you can get away without sound effects.

Over all a really enjoyable entry, good job!!

One Missed Message by Apos 2021-05-02T23:06:10Z

This was interesting! The gameplay felt a bit repetitive and felt like more of a chore to unlock the story and the audio clips. I really liked the music towards the end, but I'm still a bit confused about how the story concluded. Either way the concept was really cool, I like the atmosphere and it has some really nice graphical effects

Deeper Daddy by AguaHervida 2021-05-03T00:08:28Z

God the music is so good I love it 😭😭

I saved the eggs!! I feel like you should put a countdown timer on it and let the player save as many eggs in that time as they can, I think that would make for a bit more replayability and allow players to challenge themselves by trying to beat previous scores.

The pixel art was cute and the way it was incorporated into the 3d environment was interesting, although it needed a bit of work. The game's movement and collision felt pretty janky, you should probably just try removing friction from the physics entities and apply linear damping over time when not receiving movement input, and then I imagine it would feel much better.

Over all super cute entry and definitely an accomplishment to make this over a weekend. Great job!!

p.s. I'm still listening to the music in another browser tab it's so gooood

Cleaning Diver by JaviCoder 2021-04-28T04:26:11Z

beautiful game with a great implementation of the 2d lighting system in unity. The normal maps on the underwater rocks were a really nice touch. The opening scene with the boat at sunset is jaw dropping.

Your son, Pol, is a very talented composer at that age! Although I'm not going to share this game with 5 friends, but only because I *want* your dog to come after me 😉

Great job and beautiful entry. I look forward to seeing your submissions for future LD jams!

Endeavour by leekanarchism 2021-05-16T17:49:33Z

Great music! I thought the star was a planet so I kept trying to land on it before getting the heat resistant power. After finally getting into the star though I did not expect to find a door. Loved the ending just because it was so unexpected

Endeavour by leekanarchism 2021-05-16T17:50:56Z

I also really enjoyed the physics puzzles on the blue planet with the circular gravity. That was a lot of fun to play with. Good job on your entry!!

Sleepy Trouble by Stevi60 2021-05-02T23:41:02Z

Wow this was awesome! Beautiful artwork and great level design. The movement and controls were fluid and responsive, however the key mappings felt very awkward, and like they were designed for a non-wasd keyboard layout so it was hard to get used to them, would be very nice if we could re-bind them. The game itself is a wonderful and cure short little experience that I loved every moment of. I think this is my favorite submission so far.

I would've loved to have seen a bit more color in the environment, I know the monochrome color scheme was supposed to represent the dream world but I think it would have been a nice effect for the world to be seen in color when you reach the end of the game.

Lights Out, Fright's Out! by TechnoNugget 2022-10-09T00:49:09Z

@peachtreeoath Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm a bit ashamed to admit I've never even heard of Sokoban before people started making associations to it here  as for the hint, I don't wanna post any big spoilers but I can say for that level, the red box goes in before the green box.

Exorcist Patrol by PeachTreeOath 2022-10-09T00:40:36Z

Yo this is sweet. At first I had no idea what I was supposed to do but then as I realized how it worked, I started to see how it really all fit together. It was really interesting using a psuedo-turn based system and having to time things correctly so that the enemy would be in the right position at the right time so that your attack would land. Really felt like you were choreographing an epic fight scene.

Although it would have been cool if the enemies could attack back so that there was some sort of threat or motivation to move quickly. Also I think the aesthetic could have gained some major benefits from some frame by frame animations for the main characters and the enemies.

Great job, guys!!

Pet the Damn Cat! by Deprecat 2022-10-09T01:36:07Z

Lmao, I think @confusedsoph and I had the same problem 🤣

I was sitting here trying to play the game to do work but my virtual cat needed attention which was preventing me from working, and then my cat in real life was also sitting on my lap demanding attention while I tried to play the game and work and give attention to my virtual cat. It's cat's all the way down. I love it.😻

also the art is so cute 💙💙 is the cat modeled after one of your fur babies??

Reboot by Astrydax 2022-10-04T05:06:46Z

Very creative game + tons of fun. made me want to go back and get the fastest time I could, but I only managed to actually beat it once. I think there were some frustrating things that could have been improved, but 10/10 on the concept and the design. Was generally very nice to look at and listen to. I think it could have been improved by making the downward staircases slightly lower than the upward staircases so that when you accidentally double clicked an exit, it doesn't make you go up and then back down to where you were. Or you could have a short transition period where the timer is paused and you can't click to prevent players from accidentally double clicking.

Either way very good job, this has been my favorite game I've played so far

I love that every time I play one of your games it's a significant improvement from the previous one. Keep em coming! This one had some really nice artwork, although I personally don't like the shaders used to apply filters, it's probably just my opinion but I feel like it takes away from the pixel aesthetic. Otherwise, great work :)

Anti-Apophis Wristwatch by Trouv 2022-10-09T02:01:11Z

I helped Malcom escape

This is a really nicely executed mechanic. It stands out especially to me since I've tried making similar mechanics in a previous game but I ended up giving up because getting time control and physics to play nicely together is very complex, it turns out. So I think it's very impressive, great job!!!

also - the music being rewinded when time was going backwards was a nice touch :)

Shutdown by smilewood 2023-10-03T03:09:37Z

There are some good concepts here for sure, however it did not feel very well polished. The jumping in particular was very frustrating - it seems like a lot of the time your ground detection did not trigger and as a result I just couldn't jump even while mashing the up button on my keyboard. What I did like was the gameplay, hard to go wrong with an action shooter side-scroller, and I'll always upvote for fun action games. Kept me trying a few times, although it never got too hard. my high score was 3635 or something around there? I tried to go back and check mid-comment but it looks like the data got wiped so I wasn't able to.

Shutdown by smilewood 2023-10-03T03:10:27Z

Oh also fyi - it looks like the web build for this website isn't working, at least not for me. I had to go to itch.io to get it to work

@trexxak Hey thanks a bunch man!! I really appreciate it. I think video feedback is the most valuable kind of feedback, seeing how someone reacts to the game as they're playing can really help see where I've gone right and wrong

Whacky Sally by Narudgi 2023-10-03T17:33:15Z

This game looks _so_ nice!! awesome graphics and adorable character design!! There was one issue where it seemed like shaders were being compiled the first time you see a material though, which caused lag spikes whenever you saw a new graphic. This is a known and annoying issue with godot (and some other small time engines) but you can fix it by rendering an object with the material for each different shader being used in the scene, just for one frame at the beginning of the scene which forces the shaders to compile at the beginning. You can stick em behind a black quad with a "transparent" shader so the player doesn't see them flash before the game starts.

Keyslinger by OrdiNeu 2023-10-03T03:53:33Z

lmao the tumbleweed caught me unexpectedly

Really nice and well polished game, there were a few minor things, like the revolver bullet didn't orient itself in the direction it was traveling, the impact hit effect was using bilinear filtering when everything else used point filtering, but only minor things. I loved the gameplay even though I hate inventory management. Took me a couple tries but I finally beat it, by the end I just had a dash and two revolvers equipped.

Classic dual-wield build, it can never go wrong :)

Cute and fun graphics, hectic gameplay by the end, this one's a winner methinks.

Shot in the Dark by GhastlyMicrowave 2023-10-03T08:02:24Z

This is a really fun game, didn't think I would like it very much but when I tried it, I had a blast and couldn't stop playing.

Exactly 5000 was my highest score.

Things started to really degrade quite quickly for me when there were lots of enemies, it was hard to keep track of all of them. Sounds were very satisfying too. Music was awesome and it really started to feel like shit was going down whenever it started playing.

The one thing I would change though is to have a little more hit feedback than the score counter increasing. It would be really nice to be able to see the enemy flash as they die real quick when you hit them with your laser thing. Awesome game, simple concept, perfect for a jam, great job!

Cavescape by Tomssuli 2023-10-14T02:32:22Z

I love this game man. Good shit. A bit rough around the edges but it really feels like a full game, it's got a story, silly dialogue, kinda dumb but lovable characters, fun gameplay. It was a nice little arcade lander gameplay with some nice story elements, it felt alive, I guess. Great job guys. Only thing I can really recommend would be a bit of polish for the graphics and the ui, but honestly the jankyness fit the vibe really well so I dig it.

I'm a bit disappointed there was no uses for the mines and the laser that I was carrying around with me the whole time, I guess I could've just filled those slots with extra health, but oh well lol

Ok - so, the art was clearly the highlight of this game. Everything from style to character animations to ui to environment backdrops and cutscenes were just really really well done. There was one shot of carol where her right eye was missing which was kinda odd, but otherwise very very nice looking and adorable game with a cute lil story.

However there were some issues, whenever I finished the game it said that I had won, but my score was always 0 in the final screen even though it was pretty high in the gameplay screen. I'm not sure if the data from the score just didn't update the game ending screen, or? did I mess it up somehow each time so my score was just always dropped to zero at the end? Also the mechanics weren't really very clear? It seemed like you were encouraged to stack things nice and neatly in the bags due to their tetris shapes, but I found that just throwing them in there as quick as I could without bothering to organize was the most efficient way and I didn't seem to be penalized. The physics behind everything made it pretty entertaining though

Overall was an enjoyable experience and I'm glad I played :)

2290 pts bb!! Is that good? I feel like its good. took me a few tries to get it at least.

This one was fun. There were a few issues like the camera was slightly drifting to the right all the time and I everytime a new sound played the game lagged for a couple seconds, but other than that it was a really solid entry!! :)

I have to admit I was hoping it was a game made in bevy or rust, since you mention on my game that you were also a rustacean, but godot is cool too. keep up the good work!

Limited Space in Space by Fifut 2023-10-04T05:19:04Z

I got 5 satellites! It took me a hot minute to really understand how to play though. Something about the acceleration or throttle or something felt a bit off but I'm not really sure what, it was still very fun nonetheless and quite challenging. I think it fit the theme really well too and is even kind of relevant to current events with all those internet companies wanting to throw a million satellites in orbit

Natura by DzejPi 2023-10-04T05:31:09Z

Took me a hot minute to understand how to play but it was great once I figured it out. Didn't really realize there was an end condition and right when I was about to finish setting up my bee farm it ended and said I won by raising a hundred bees so I couldn't complete it 😭

It was fun to run around the island and collect stuff and build houses and beehives and plant trees :) I'm not really sure if there was a purpose to the fire place and the house but I built them anyway. I think if there was one thing I'd change I'd either make there be some visual feedback when you collect an item

Unsquished by RogerW 2023-10-03T06:51:49Z

Highly stylized, highly polished, awesome game! Fun and original gameplay too! It was super hard for me, I wasn't able to escape and I didn't even make it onto the score board. I think my high score was 58

Normally I'm not a fan of crt filters or other screen space shaders, but I think it works really well with this games style and theme, and the distortion effect near the edges that went along with it really seemed to fit as well

Only one small bug I noticed was that whenever I punched the bottom border of the screen, the character would teleport downwards as much as the edge receded, which didn't happen for any of the other directions

I finally done it! Personally not a huge fan of these kind of platformers but the graphics were so goood. Really great job with creating the large hectic environment, something about being able to see the whole game on the screen made planning out your run to grab as many fruits as possible just felt very nice

Also really reminds me of how I used to do game jams! I used to just use vanilla javascript and canvas manipulation too! I think it's a great way to partake and really helps you nail down game engine fundamental skills

Mad Mesa by jcsirron 2018-04-26T06:44:25Z

Hey man! I remember meeting you at the Tinkermill in Longmont for LD39! However I totally forgot to play your game for LD39, I'm glad fate brought me to your game for LD41.

Anyway as for the game, It's actually pretty fun just to mess around with, the physics felt surprisingly good and the interaction with the buggies was great. I somehow managed to get two buggies facing backward simultaneously shooting off the bad guys so I didn't have to xD

But as you meantioned the game is pretty empty and it didn't really feel like there was a point to it. I think it could have been vastly improved by just adding a game over condition and a score count for how much scrap metal you collected (or whatever it was that you were collecting lol)

I also did notice a bug where the if the enemies shot the scrap metal, the console would log "caught" as if the player had collected it. All in all, awesome job for starting a new engine during a game jam and actually creating something substantial from it!

Bridge Run by block97 2018-04-26T05:28:48Z

High score was only 349 /:

I tried a good amount of times but my internet is pretty slow so it was really irritating how the page had to reload every time the game restarted.

The audio also kept cutting out for me, but I assume that's just because of slow internet. It also could have benefit from some sound effects.

Anyway, I liked the game itself as it was a lot of fun to play, so good job on completing it!

A Tribute to Mayhem by TechnoNugget 2018-04-25T03:27:58Z

@Ninjascribble huh, that's weird. If it's not too much trouble, could you go to the game page, start a game, and then go to the developers console (ctrl + shift + I) and then click on "console" on the top tab, and let me know if there's any errors there?

Thanks for letting me know about the bug!

A Tribute to Mayhem by TechnoNugget 2018-04-25T21:04:26Z

@LeReveur Hey, thanks for pointing out that it was confusing how to fall through platforms. I added a description of how to do it up in my post. Anyway here's how to do it: just hold the 'down key' while you are falling.

@randomphantom hey man, thanks for all the feedback! Yeah I was iffy about the controls myself. I was gonna change them up when before I submitted but ended up not having time. And yeah that level with the divider is a bit confusing, but it's actually supposed to be a platform that you can fall through by holding the 'down' key while you are falling.

A Tribute to Mayhem by TechnoNugget 2018-04-27T00:54:20Z

Hey thanks for the feedback @Deprecat !

I am working an an update right now actually and I have tweaked the controls to be much less confusing and added the platform falling to the instructions page. I've added a few more cards and am working on more enemies.

You're definitely right about the enemy spawn rate, so I'll be messing with that too. Sometimes it feels too slow and then all the sudden there's like 10 enemies that are swarming you.

A Tribute to Mayhem by TechnoNugget 2018-05-12T02:37:03Z

@alejandrodecea Thanks for pointing that out! Turns out the issue is with Firefox's implementation of text rendering on some systems. I'll add a work around eventually, probably pre-render the text and store it on a canvas for later use or something. but if you wanted to try it without lag it should work flawlessly on chrome.

This is a very good idea but the game was poorly polished and there were a lot of glitches. For instance, I got stuck in first person mode a couple times and the first time I was really confused because the tutorial doesn't tell you how to get back to city planning mode.

However the genre mashup I think is great and with a bit of polish I think it could really be something great!

Silly, cute, short. Made me laugh.

"Hi" "Hi" ... "You seem like a bitch!"

ShootEm? by Merrol 2018-04-27T00:50:33Z

This was awesome haha. Totally unexpected. And to do what you're doing takes some serious commitment. I'm always way too tired after the jam to do anything other than sleep/netflix and play other games.

First 5 stars of fun I've given in this LD so far. Awesome job, and awesome job continuing to commit to it affter the jam ended.

I personally am not usually a fan of DoF but in this game it worked nicely. Although the bullets should have either dissapeared on contact or had some sort of exit animation/effect. Also sometimes after you kill the enemy you can see him teleport away. Small things but I can't find anything else to criticize so good job ;)

Dropzone Mars by helpcomputer 2018-04-24T07:42:11Z

pros:

* sweet graphics x2 * sweet music (!!!) * responsive gameplay

cons:

* what am I doing * what should I be doing * ooohh okay I get it * wait is this even helping * well now I'm dead

Took me a sec to understand what was going on. The people colonies kinda look like they would be slime colonies so I was trying to kill them for a bit. Bombing didn't really seem to have much of an effect because then you would drift way away from the action.

But goddamn those graphics blew me away. The explosion effects were especially pleasing. Very polished feel. It brought me back to the SNES era, so you get bonus points for that, good job.

Shuffle Climber by miroky 2018-04-25T02:19:57Z

High score of **250**! :D

I think I may have gotten higher than that also but I forgot to check before I mashed the retry button.

Anyway super fun game, I played it for way too long. It can get extremely frustrating when you are stuck on a level and have no up cards though. I burned through like 5 sheilds and attacks trying to get an up card once to no avail. 10/10 would die again.

ASM Hell by vilix64 2018-05-05T08:26:13Z

I like this. Though I didn't finish past level 4 because this was the first time I've done assembly and level 4 just seemed like a lot of work lol

Solid execution and great mashup.

Also I should note that the game didn't recognize my keyboard input unless I opened up the iframe in a new window

Rhythm Racing by Sammy6 2018-04-25T01:38:23Z

Holy crap this game is hard. It was fun, but hard. I played through twice and didn't reach the end either time. good job with the implementation of the themes though. More fun than most rhythm games that I've played.

GUN-HOCKEY by isopoly 2018-04-26T05:51:49Z

bahaha this is hilarious. Good job. Perfect fit for the theme too!

Although sometimes it seemed like the puck should have been hit when it wasn't

Chromatic Gorilka Typo by Lucas Carvalhaes 2018-04-25T02:42:46Z

I like the Mashup. Its actually a really good mix of genres.

The only real problem I had was that it was way to easy. Once you spawn your fist spark, he gets you basically enough gold withing the first minute to build towers that cover the whole map. After that you never really run into any trouble. I got to wave 11 and the enemies still seem like they were just as easy as the were at the beginning.

Other than that I have to say I absolutely love the mood/graphics. easily a solid 5 for me. You hit me right in the nostalgia <3 Its also very polished which is a huge plus for me. It also seems like this mashup of genres has huge potential to build a really cool command based tower defense game. Good job on the entry, I hope it goes far in the ratings [:

City Surgeon by Bitoddgames 2018-04-24T08:17:13Z

Pros:

* lol * tedious in the best way * lawers are okay with 200 people dying from the construction of a house * it was fun to actually try as well as mess around

Cons:

* only 3 levels

I just want more levels. Game is actually pretty damn fun

Overcharged by Cryovr 2018-04-25T02:04:06Z

I played your game and enjoyed it, I think it could benefit a ton from a score/kill counter though. Here's a break down of my views on it:

Pros:

* core gameplay is fun * satisfying screen shake * planet shaped terrain gives it a cool little twist

Cons:

* Janky physics, please please work on the collisions and the player movement * Particle effects dissapeared too abruptly, they should fade or shrink or something * Poor implementation of stealth

Either way, awesome job for completing the game for LD, that's more than most people can say ;) Also I really appreciate the massive amount of games you've played and rated!

unBLOCK the exit! by fjlucas 2018-04-24T07:10:26Z

pros:

* mood/style points * 1-bit color * art skills * simple to understand, hard to master

cons:

* janky movement * janky movement * janky movement

This could be an awesome little puzzle platformer if the character did what I told him to. Work on those physics boiii! Other than that I like it!

Crazy Cat Collector by theprint 2018-04-26T23:57:51Z

ugh this game made me depressed lol. These poor kitties are starving and there's no way I'm sacrificing them so now I'm just stuck in an endless cycle of clicking as fast as possible and buying as much kibbles as I can.

Mojojo by ZakAmana 2018-04-24T07:59:36Z

Normally I'm not a fan of post processing or weird lighting in a game like this. However for this game it seems to set the tone perfectly. It made me laugh and smile and I enjoyed it until the end! Thanks for the positive experience ^-^

I can't think of anything I'd change. Maybe make the battles a bit more meaningful? Either way amazing job!!

A Knight of Music by Danny88881 2018-04-25T01:24:35Z

The original didn't work for me for some reason, it just launched a console window and then immediately closed.

I really liked the implementation of the rhythm system with the attacking. It was better than other mashups with rhythm the rhythm genre. It would have been helpful to have a different visual cue though, closer to the character, maybe above his head or something so you could see how close an enemy is to you when you are getting ready to attack.

Pinhuman by sleazywizard 2018-04-27T00:25:26Z

Haha this is great. I got a high score of 80. Not sure if the scoreboard is global or not, but it was top on the list when I stopped playing. Either way I'm always a fan of pinball and this was no different.

There was a bit of room for improvement though, it seemed like the ragdoll sometimes went right over the bumpers without hitting them at all. also a few times he went right from the launcher right to the left hand side and fell out without giving me a chance to hit him even once.

Good job, silly entry 8/10 would slap him around again
