Your game shows great potential with its unique concept and engaging gameplay mechanics. The art style and mood of the game complement each other well, creating an immersive experience. Overall, your game is a promising entry that could become even more enjoyable with some polishing. Well done!

Interesting game but using the arrows move the webpage and also could not see where the player was as the screen is too small.

matheuscunegato 2023-10-03 02:46

I just love the idea of seeing the whole scenario the entire time, I think it's a concept that might work in other ideas as well. Well executed with cute graphics, good level design and nice sounds. Too hardcore to me, but still very nice, congratulations on the submission!

I finally done it! Personally not a huge fan of these kind of platformers but the graphics were so goood. Really great job with creating the large hectic environment, something about being able to see the whole game on the screen made planning out your run to grab as many fruits as possible just felt very nice

Also really reminds me of how I used to do game jams! I used to just use vanilla javascript and canvas manipulation too! I think it's a great way to partake and really helps you nail down game engine fundamental skills

also, note for people who want to play the game in full screen, or experiencing issues with scrolling happening when you press the arrow keys - if you're using firefox, you can right click on the game, select `this frame` -> `open in new tab`, this opens just the game without the LD webpage, and then zoom in as much as you want without sacrificing the page layout Screenshot 2023-10-03 003804.png

Hi! Left your tab open from stream before I went to bed and finally got to try it! I could imagine this being an old-school DOS game! Also I didn't realise the checkpoints were checkpoints, I thought they were some kind of saw so I just kept jumping over them :D

+ Controls are very responsive + Graphics are minimal, but very cute, much appreciated (I'm a sucker for simplicity haha) + I love the way the entire map shows the entire time + Lots of different, consistent, gimmicks + Each "room" felt like its own, unique, challenge + Lovely jump sound effect (and also the crunchy death sound haha) + Rather solid level/room design

Things that I would've loved to see:

- Slightly quicker cycles (at some points it felt like the waiting time for those "swap blocks" for example got a bit tedious) - Jump on space (even though jumping on up arrow does fit the aesthetics) - End-game timer in this sorta game would've been great! See how long it took me to beat

Overall, an enjoyable experience to me. Thanks for submitting!

Nice art style

(Figured I'd respond to everyone so far in one post instead of spamming replies. =P)

@vadzim Thanks! I am leaning towards expanding on the game. Are there any mechanics in particular you'd like to see? I'm not typically a platformer player, so any suggestions are welcome!

@hermetix I'm sorry about the weirdness with the arrow keys. First html5 game I've uploaded anywhere in a long time so I'll put more effort into UX next time. I was also not aware of the iframe size restrictions and so I designed the game with a higher resolution and had to downscale at last minute. I'm not happy with the size and agree it's a bit too small and hard to read as is. Thanks for the feedback! =D

@matheuscunegato Thanks for playing! TBH it's a bit too hardcore for even myself but I'm happy you enjoyed it!

@technonugget WHOA! I haven't even completed the game 100% yet.. World first! =D But yeah, I really enjoy just pushing some pixels around and javascript/canvas makes it so simple. And thanks for the fullscreen/scrolling work around. I'm going to try and improve UX in future entries. But thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

@kepsert Yo, thanks for playing it! I definitely think I could have done better at signposting the different mechanics to the player. With 4x4 pixels I found it difficult to make certain objects distinguishable but I think I can definitely make some improvements in that area. I'm going to take your suggestions and see if I can add them. Thanks for the feedback! =D

@winie Thanks! =P

Love the style of this. Took me a while to work out where the player character was 😅

I couldn't get very far, but I kept wanting to give it another go. Nice challenging platforming, and the small scale artwork, small zones and tight platforming go well with the theme

Love how much you can do with just HTML, JavaScript and a small spritesheet!

I'm definitely not skilled enough to reach the end but still pretty fun. I love that there's different paths and seeing the entire level on one screen is very neat. I like watching everything moving around and the minimalist art style really adds to the effect.

neeko69 2023-10-04 03:26

I can't pass the first obstacle, it does not jump high enough for me, I have tried every hz of my monitor... it does not work.

Edit: After changing the browser and the hz, it actually works. it is pretty challenging but a fun game, it just lack some music, but overall it is a pretty solid and hard game!

ascenial 2023-10-04 05:13

Fun game its really hard but its really fun and challenging! also I like the simple art style!

I liked it when the lazers didn't exist in the game lol.

**EDIT** Finally got to play it properly! It's super fun, and I've amended my grades accordingly LUL

Goddamn this game is hard and frustrating, every obstacle feels like it was expertly crafted and timed to screw you right when you thought it was safe to go. I had a severe case of "just one more try" syndrome while trying to beat it, and I still haven't succeeded, but I'm gonna come back to it. Love the style too, seeing the entire map ahead of you is pretty cool.

jcmonkey 2023-10-05 19:44

nice game, quite a bit hard. ive seen over small games this jam, and they went out of there way to make the character really stand out. i think that would help a bit here.

braktheman 2023-10-07 01:37

The platforming feels great and responsive. Having the entire game on screen at once is a little bit intimidating, but also helps the game to stand out. Really enjoyed it. Great job.

khaotom 2023-10-07 16:39

It's nice but intimidating to see the whole map on screen at once. But also feeling my age squinting to see it. Good choice of contrasty colors saved the day there. I like the level of difficulty. Seems tough but not insurmountable. Checkpoints are a good choice in this case as there is definitely a lot of ground to cover and the possibility of death is high. Really neat little platformer!

Edit: One bug I just found while I scrolled down here to leave comment, when I scrolled back up to the game the character is missing. I have to reload the page.

itsboats 2023-10-09 06:17

i like the 4x4 size sprites, you did really good making things very readable at such a small scale! i had to zoom in to play cuz am blind tho xD The level design is great! i love that theres multiple paths you can take bLUEBERRYBoyMakesSpace.png

little-doctor-games 2023-10-09 17:40

Had a great time playing this on stream! I had to zoom in a bit to be able to see where I was in the maze. Jumping felt great and the challenge level seemed perfect for a jam game. Nice work!
