LD48 — Deeper and deeper

depthscraper by lexi 2021-04-27T09:04:42Z

My favorite game of the jam so far! Very addictive gameplay. I don't know if I just wasn't paying attention but it happened once or twice that I got a game over at a point where I thought I could still place blocks, but that's my only little nitpick. This is a great riff off of 2048.

Leaky Faucet by Astavie 2021-04-27T08:17:48Z

Very intuitive to play once you understand the game's premise. Who's never manually changed an URL just to check if the devs did their job right? Lots of content too, I've been playing for a few minutes, reading people's DMs (wow that sounds...questionable) and I have found a few clues but I still don't know who did it!

Dikes & Polders by nsadie 2021-04-28T13:55:37Z

Very cool game. Took a few minutes to get the hang of it but then I was hooked. The level of polish on the graphics (or in stuff like mousescroll to turn a piece) is impressive. My only nitpick is that I was surprised that the map wasn't randomly generated on every new playthrough. All things considered though, this is an awesome entry. highschore.png

ATOMIC deepness by Kevin Meissner 2021-04-27T10:14:14Z

very fun! It would be cool to have a list of all the powerups because I'm not sure I got them all (I got 3 or 4 different ones). The randomness of the powerups is neat and made me want to keep on pushing just one more level to see how cool it would be to shoot even faster (but for some reason the game just really wanted to me to jump to the ceiling :D). Nice take on the theme. If I had one nitpick I'd say it would be nice to have an indicator when you get hit pointing to the damage source because it's not always clear if you're standing on radiation, or if a cockroach in the dark is shooting at you. Well done!

Linguini's Adventure by Washington Irving 2021-04-27T14:34:41Z

Loved the low-poly art style! The soundtrack is also very good at setting the mood. I was impressed with the level of polish of some things like the stagger animation on the spiders. One thing I think you could improve on, from what I could tell it made no difference how much you charged the crossbow before shooting regarding damage, so I ended up abusing that by charging it as little as possible in close-ish range. Some more enemy variety would also be nice, but overall what you have here is really solid on its own. Well done!

Esophagus' inCRYPTion by Baconeta 2021-04-27T09:29:02Z

Cute game! I was stuck at an impossible level on my first playthrough which was a bit frustrating, but the second playthrough went smoothly. I agree with other commenters that the one thing I'd change is making the camera movement smoother because it's hard to get used to. The art looked nice and the soundtrack was very relaxing and enjoyable. Cool take on the theme, well done!

EarthDrop by Massillon Magic 2021-04-27T09:54:43Z

Cute game! I think like someone else mentioned the main character should also have been pixel art. Overall the game could use some polish but it's fun to play for a few tries and harder than it seems. Well done!

Surface by fizzbark 2021-04-28T13:22:56Z

I enjoyed this game. The dashing took a few tries to get the hang of and added some variety to the pretty standard platforming gameplay but what I was really taken with was the trippy world design and atmosphere. Nice work.

LD49 — Unstable

Unstable Tower by erikkire 2021-10-07T19:53:47Z

Man this was surprisingly difficult for me. I love a game with a simple premise that ends up being deeper than it first appears. This is the right kind of frustrating. That damn rope just keeps slipping away! Considering this is a C++ compo, I am impressed.

Horsey Computer by Apple Dash 2021-10-07T20:11:17Z

This game fucks with my brain.

Alteration by ColinBellino 2021-10-06T11:45:13Z

Great puzzle game. The slowdown when you change forms got a little bit annoying in the later levels, but the game's graphics and audio are top notch so it's not too annoying. I feel like the game started out a bit slow, but the later levels were really enjoyable, especially starting with 'There and Back Again'. Nice work!

Shinobi Rivals by Tom Robson 2021-10-07T20:45:12Z

Very fun to play with some friends, and the game plays well. I think you could have gone even further with the theme of instability, but even so, this is a really well made implementation of that idea.

Toil and Trouble by bassguitarbill 2021-10-05T22:38:18Z

I have to say, I absolutely love the art style. I wish I could comment on it further but whenever I try to play it on Firefox, my CPU and RAM usage get up to 99% which makes the game unplayable, it seems to happen about 30-60 seconds inor when I try to enter the second room. It could absolutely be a problem on my end, but could you maybe provide a Windows build? Looking forward to playing it!

Toil and Trouble by bassguitarbill 2021-10-07T19:29:56Z

Went back and played it on Chrome and everything went smoothly. What I like about this game, more than any specific game mechanic or art piece, is that everything in it reminds me of a Roald Dahl book.

Naugthty Button by wvagen 2021-10-05T17:16:58Z

This game is incredibly frustrating, in a good way. In a "One more try! One more try! I can't believe I just missed that!"-way. Nice small game. There's a typo in the name by the way, it should be "Naughty".

Dungeon Disasters by Taximan981 2021-10-07T19:38:38Z

The idea is very cool and the core gameplay loop is fun, this game just needs a little bit more polish to be super addictive. Apart from what everyone else said, I would suggest that when you die to enemies, restart and re-enter the room, the enemies stay the same instead of being generated randomly again. That way you can learn from your death(s) in true roguelike fashion. Anyway, fire stick is awesome.

In Search Of Water by Tom Stephenson 2021-10-05T21:09:03Z

The level of polish in this is inspiring, especially considering it's pretty much all pretty simple shapes in black and white. The walljump mechanic is nice. However I'd say that the floor feels a little bit too sticky, like it takes a lot of effort to jump everywhere. Great mood though.

Stabilaser by Unfocused Locust Games 2021-10-05T22:35:27Z

Very cool little game! I feel like you have a solid basis to expand the game further into more puzzles. I agree with @pcmaster about the mouse capture thing, but it's not a huge deal. However I didn't understand why in the last two levels with the lever, there would seem to be only one stabilizer, but if I walked over again to where the stabilizer used to be, I'd pick up another one. Maybe a visual bug? Nice job either way!

Unstable Valley by ericbomb 2021-10-07T20:09:43Z

This is really hard to play, but it's one of my favorite entries so far solely for introducing me to audio-only games. I find the concept fascinating so thank you for that. The game was pretty good after I wrapped my head around the concept and the controls. I think you should work a bit on the tutorial (waiting until the end of the instructions makes the game not start), because the barrier to entry is unfortunately really high.

Tangerine Massacre by arvz 2021-10-07T20:37:48Z

The game is simple but feels good to play and looks great. Main character is very cute. One bug? I had while playing is that the ground was destroyed under me but since I wasn't moving, nothing happened. Another thing I would say is that graphically it feels a bit weird to only be able to face 4 directions when enemies are throwing projectiles from all angles. Good entry though, reminds me of some old flash games that are all about dexterity.

Time Rift Racers by D3kryption 2021-10-07T20:19:29Z

Surprised this has so few comments. First off I'm impressed you had time to make all those environments (even though there are some glitches like floating trees). I think the concept is good and the game plays well for a racing game made in such a short time (the AI unfortunately gets stuck sometimes). I like the camera-portraits updating in real time. I think this would have been even better if you had developed the 'unstable' theme more, with more portals to more weird places, but even so, great work!

LD52 — Harvest

Not Mushroom for Error by TerraCottaFrog 2023-01-14T21:32:08Z

Super impressed on the technical side with the procedural generation of new mushrooms, especially for a compo! Sometimes they look a bit too similar, but then again, that's also the danger in real life haha. The gameplay is simple but works well, but honestly I replayed it a few times just to see what kind of mushrooms were possible to generate. Great title as well.

Elonkorjuu - Live Harvest by Tutti Ankka 2023-01-10T20:32:46Z

I'm not gonna win any points for originality but it bears repeating, this game is absolutely gorgeous. Visually, it's the most interesting game I've played in this jam and it's hard to believe all the art was made in only 72 hours. The map design is interesting enough to keep you engaged, and the gameplay is alright if a bit repetitive. My only gripe is with the more 'platformer'-ish aspects of the game, the fact that you can't tilt your head down can make it a bit frustrating (but that could just be me being bad at the game). Very impressive.

HARVEST 2300 by xk_the_name 2023-01-09T02:25:10Z

Extremely polished! The UI, the trail, the little details in the pixel art...and the music also helps build tension. The story is a nice touch as well. I wish upgrades were a bit more 'extreme' in their effects so it'd be fun to replay it and choose a different path. Great entry either way!

Penrose Process by cogcomp 2023-01-09T20:53:25Z

Took me a bit to understand how to play the game, but even when I did, damn it's tough! Lesson learned, the down arrow is *dangerous*. Pretty engaging though, and mad respect for making a game in SDL in 48 hours, and getting it to work on a web page too!

Seed Gun by arowx 2023-01-14T21:25:34Z

The core mechanics are fun! I wish there a few more systems in place like upgrades or a shop but I imagine you had your hands full with making a 3D game for a compo. I also experienced a bug where I couldn't rotate my character by moving the mouse past a certain point. But the models are cute and those bugs falling from the sky only to zoom to your crops at mach-1 speed are certainly a sight to see haha. Nice job!

Harvest Battle Adventure by Falkreon 2023-01-09T05:44:53Z

I think the idea is awesome, an upgrade/clicker game with a planting minigame based on the enemies you defeat. It could use a bit more polish, but the core gameplay is solid.

HELLGATE HARVEST by kodingnights 2023-01-08T21:48:48Z

Very nice. Visually it's very impressive with all the dudes walking up slowly. It's a bit hard to identify when to use the keys because the characters move so slowly, but once you really listen to the music it works out, if you identify which instruments fit to each track you can really get into it. Took me a while to figure out which keys to use to play because the 1-4 was so small though. Nice work!

Homunculus by Iluvatar 2023-01-09T17:06:05Z

Love a point n click game! I even had a few 'huh! where is the damn correct pixel' moments like in a proper point'n'click. Very impressed at the level of polish here, it's a shame the homunculus wakes up so violently, I wanted to see where this was going.

Furious Farm: Total Reap-Out by TRASEVOL_DOG 2023-01-19T08:51:35Z

Everything about this game is so polished that it's hard to even come up with anything interesting to say beyond nice work. The only thing I would mention is that many of the game's fun moments happen when you're close by to the other harvesters, but the gameplay seems to encourage finding your own area of the map to maximize your harvest score which seems a bit counterproductive. A way to further incite the player to get into the melee would be nice. Other than that, playing this game makes me go "Ah, so it's possible to achieve something like this in 72 hours..."

Cave Cropduster by GettingRekt 2023-01-08T23:46:01Z

Flying feels really satisfying, and the visuals are good. I had fun once I understood what the game was about but like the commenter above said the mushrooms are a bit confusing. Do you think you could make the window on itch.io bigger? That'd be a good compromise for me between full screen (text bug) and the way it is now. Good work!

None of your beesness! by SupremeKurt 2023-01-08T22:13:52Z

Fun stuff! You have to stop and think a little but it's not too hard that it's annoying. Sometimes I have to try my luck, I'm not sure if it's my fault or there's some clues missing sometimes. Good idea either way and fits the theme well! And just a small note, but there's a bug on level 1-5 with the honey on the bottom right giving you infinite honey as long as you walk over it again.

reOrganiser by The-Vecter 2023-01-08T23:19:15Z

Fun experience. It'd be great if you could physically swap the organs but I still had a good time. I like the mechanic of parsing the 'contracts', I think you could have gone even heavier with like 10 choices every time to try and maximize profit. The gameplay gets repetitive after a while, but I just think that's because $50K is too much, if you condensed this into 1 day and say $10K I bet it would do super well. I also experienced a bug with some funky maths in days 3+ where I wouldn't receive as much as the reward said, like 1k instead of 4k, and I got the "well, well, well" message at like 45k which was a bit disappointing, but oh well. Good work!

You Versus The World by Echo GameWorks 2023-01-16T13:25:19Z

I love card games, and this was a fun one. The AI is pretty forgiving so it becomes more about making sure those damn trees get the proper amount of sunlight/water/temperature to get a high score than actually progressing through the levels, although unlocking new trees was cool. A couple nitpicks I have:

* The apple tree's sunlight rating is a little bit weird, maybe the X and dash are inverted there?

* It looks smooth, but I think the animation bringing up the trees info could be sped up a bit considering it's the main thing you interact with.

* I don't quite get how the discard/draw deck buttons work, it let me draw cards until I had like 10 in hand at which point my hand seemed to bug out (https://i.imgur.com/uatGqS7.png), and it also gave me points.

The graphics are pleasant to look at and I enjoyed the humor in all the trees little taglines. The lack of sound is a shame but of course this is a pretty complete game for a compo so it's hard to blame you. Overall this is a game that doesn't need much more work to become really fun, in my opinion, just some balance tweaks to the AI and cards distribution and some bugfixes. Nice work!

HARVEST by diesdas 2023-01-09T21:09:51Z

I find the concept really well though-out. It was pretty fun trying a few different starting strategies for maximizing yield.

Screenshot 2023-01-09 220834.jpg

Good job on making a game using purely the canvas & plain javascript as well! I do find it funny that you ended up having a compatibility issue on Firefox when you probably have one of the most 'platform-agnostic' games in this entire jam...

HARVEST by diesdas 2023-01-10T23:32:13Z

Came back to this game after watching someone play it on stream, and I did much better this time. Here's my new high score (and I definitely think 41 or 42 is possible with some better micro):

Screenshot 2023-01-11 003032.jpg

Really addictive!

It's Corn! by grid96 2023-01-19T09:13:22Z

Super inspiring that you managed to make a full game without typing, and one this polished! I agree with the other commenters that the scope is a bit too reduced in terms of gameplay, and one more gameplay mechanic would have improved the game a lot, but what *is* there works well and is fun to play. I really like the birds exploding animation.

One little nitpick I wanted to mention is that when designing pixel art I think a good rule to stand by is to keep a consistent pixel size, as I find it helps make the game feel more harmonious. Here the pixels for the characters are different sizes from the ones used in the wood posts which bugs me a little bit. But maybe you knew that and went for this style on purpose in which case feel free to ignore this!

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-10T02:43:05Z

I agree with the commenter above, feels like the concept could be taken further. I played this for a while and really enjoyed it despite some things being rough around the edges, but at the same time, considering the scope of the game, it's already an achievement for it to be playable. I feel like the spellcasting could be improved to be made more 'real time', it feels a bit clunky at the moment, and it'd be nice if you could also collect permanent power ups on top of spells. Would play a post-jam version for sure.

Super Plantoid by dans17 2023-01-12T06:11:07Z

This game has way too few ratings. The only reason I can think of is that like the other commenter I was stuck for a while until I found how to go down platforms, and other people might have put it down by then. But this game is awesome, and the best compliment I can give it is that it doesn't feel like a jam game. The art is gorgeous, the game feels good to play and has a lot of QoL features you wouldn't expect from a 72 hr game like the checkpoints, skipping animations, and there's a varied soundtrack with some really good tracks, the later ones in particular. The first track is a tad busy for an ambience track and wears its welcome a little bit (but maybe I just feel that way because I was stuck for a while).

I'd say the level design is both the best and worst point of this game, it makes you feel clever when you understand what you're supposed to do, juggling through the different powers, but when you're stuck it's really frustrating. For instance I had to look up a streamer's playthrough to understand where to go after the 2nd flower (you can jump to the platform right of the ship with the bubble). It also has some rather unexpected difficulty spikes (a room full of spikes?? in the dark?? ...gives me Rayman 1 (https:/ /www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQJAo_0UaY4) war flashbacks.

The only giveaway that this is actually a jam game is the ending which feels a bit rushed, but considering the unreasonable amount of content here, it's hard to fault you for it. I completed the game with 18/20 collectibles. I had a good time and I'm not one for platformers/metroidvanias usually. My only advice is that you should really indicate somewhere here or on itch.io the down+space trick to going down platforms, and perhaps give a few more hints in-game for n00bs like me.

Octo Garden by AppoxGames 2023-01-08T22:50:15Z

You can press play twice to spawn a second octo buddy! Spamming spacebar and rotating for huge combos is extremely satisfying. Just wish there was more to the sea you could explore. Nice work!

Rainbow Souls by Fedora 2023-01-10T16:11:05Z

I had a good time with this game, but there are a few quality of life issues that if fixed would really take it to the next level in my opinion:

* Being able to take away souls from a potion before brewing. Hate misclicking and wasting resources.

* Being able to see # of souls left, orders from customers and the brewing menu in one screen. Having to go back and forth between the two screens to make sure I have enough resources is a bit annoying.

* Make the sound pan a bit more even. I get the idea and I think it could work but it's a bit extreme and bothersome to only hear the music out of one ear, maybe reducing it to a 40% pan or something.

But yeah, overall this is a solid entry and the gameplay loop is fun. It was pretty interesting to restart and try different strategies to maximize resources before the orders start coming in. Nice work.

The Soul Harvester by AdamWatters 2023-01-10T06:25:32Z

Oh, I think this is a diamond in the rough, you'd probably have way more success with an HTML5 version. The game feels a bit rough around the edges in terms of polish but it's gigantic for a jam game, all the powers feel good to use and the level design is fantastic, definitely the highlight here. I agree with the other users about the powers feeling a bit clunky. I finished the game before I got the last power (I had dash, high jump, shoot and pass through thin walls). Wonder which one I missed?

Shape Orchard by Binney 2023-01-08T22:41:49Z

This is the best game I've played yet in terms of visuals, I absolutely love the concept. I think the puzzle aspect could be improved on by making it clearer how the colors are mixed (or was that just me), but I played it to the end just to get more of the art.

Asteroid Rush by Aarimous 2023-01-09T03:14:49Z

Fun little game! I agree with the commenter above, after a while I didn't care for the points anymore and just tried to fling asteroids every which way to hear the voice lines haha. Also, I thought your name was familiar -- turns out I watched your video on switching from unity to godot just a few days ago. Nice work!

Edit: updated rating.

Wheat Master by nyxkn 2023-01-09T17:32:21Z

A clicker done well! Limited in scope but as a result it's probably one of the more complete experiences I've played here. Quite satisfying to watch once it gets going. The isometric visuals work well. The harvest sound effect is a bit loud but not a big deal. Nice work.

Necrotic Harvest by TheJookerful 2023-01-11T05:49:00Z

I didn't realize Anubis did all that work by himself!

This is a really creative interpretation of the theme and I liked that.

The gameplay was a bit too simple to be interesting for long to me, but I think it could be improved in simple ways, like maybe making it turn based and giving the corpses different score values? You only have so many beds, and each turn you'd have to decide how you're going to prioritize the corpses to get the highest score. That'd give the game a bit more thinking (it's all about clicking fast right now it seems to me).

Good work on the visuals and the music especially, it's pretty intricate for a compo game.

Carvest by feor 2023-01-09T05:58:26Z

Thanks for the comments, everyone! Much appreciated! If I'm honest, I'm really disappointed that I didn't have time to properly test the levels (and indeed some appear to be excessively difficult), so I'd recommend giving the level editor a go if you haven't.

Carvest by feor 2023-01-09T22:57:25Z

@danmerey Thanks for the warning! It seems I can't get the embed to work here, even though I followed the guide and it's the same .zip as the one on itch.io...Oh well. Yeah, it's really tough to get the difficulty right as the cars have a tendency to randomly implode. But that's part of the fun. I should work on explaining controls better for sure.

@raphytator That's an interesting idea, wish I'd thought of that. Thanks for the feedback!

Carvest by feor 2023-01-09T23:40:15Z

@orhu Appreciate the constructive feedback! You're absolutely right, the cars were a headache to program and in the end they're a bit too glued to the road. I also just tweaked the starting money on itch.io to make the levels slightly easier because they were definitely too hard. Thanks for playing!

Carvest by feor 2023-01-12T06:20:10Z

@bigwhiteshogun Appreciate it! I'm happy with the outcome and I'm thinking of polishing it a little bit, adding maybe a few more varieties of cars/powers and maps and releasing a proper post-jam version.

That last level is incredibly hard as you've found so I totally understand using any glitch you can find, we can pretend it's working as intendedâ„¢.

Thanks so much for the kind words!

Combine Harvester: Time Attack! by Christian Zommerfelds 2023-01-08T21:06:29Z

Peaceful! Unfortunately I encountered a couple of game play issues.

1. Time seems to be passing very, very fast...I used a stopwatch and in the time that 5 IRL seconds had passed, 13 had passed in game. That makes it really difficult to complete a level, and I tried a few times and couldn't get past level 2.

2. The hitbox, unfortunately I got stuck a lot on the white fences and it's a bit difficult to move away from them once you're stuck.

I haven't tried level 3,4, 5 so I can't comment on those. I need help for level 2 haha.

Combine Harvester: Time Attack! by Christian Zommerfelds 2023-01-08T21:33:24Z

@christian-zommerfelds Just tested it, it works great now. The second level is still surprisingly difficult (or I'm just bad at this haha). The game is way more interesting when you start playing with multiple harvesters, it's really satisfying watching them do their thing in parallel. Probably could use some more finely tuned controls for deciding which harvester you want to record again, but hey, it's a jam. Good work!

Reaper by ImmanentDeath 2023-01-09T20:32:59Z

You weren't joking when you said the game was brutal! Those creepers are so damn fast. It's all about finding a good chokepoint to kill them before they can get in behind you. It feels good to play though and I like the music and the visuals, it's a nice game to look at. I wish the powers dropped a bit more often because I only managed to get one. Wpwz4pP.png Also the score didn't reset for me, but not a huge deal.

Carrot Jack by RobLaro 2023-01-09T23:22:32Z

Really fun and relaxing entry! Simple gameplay but it works well, and the graphics are pretty juicy. It took me quite a while to realize the carrot was slowly going back to its original size, but when I did, I devised a new plan:

Screenshot 2023-01-10 002024.jpg

This would have been even better with some light relaxing music but of course, hard to fit that within the constraints of a jam.

Plot Luck by Ani 2023-01-10T01:49:03Z

I like that there's more to this game than meets the eyes, it took me a few attempts before I picked up on the correct strategy (and stopped at $100). Very polished and the core gameplay is just fun. And the music doesn't get on my nerves even though I've been listening to what feels like the same 8 seconds on a loop for 15 minutes.

Dream Reaper by Orhu 2023-01-09T23:58:00Z

Played this for quite a while. It's pretty fun to play but for the first several levels I was really wishing it were a real-time game as that's how I was playing it. It starts to make sense in the later levels when it gets more complicated and the levels are designed to take advantage of the turn-based mechanic. Good work on the graphics and sound design, phasing through doors and reaching the dreamer feel satisfying. Little nitpick but some sound effects are maybe a bit loud? Anyway, solid entry overall!

4 Harvest Bags by kenneth-dd 2023-01-09T23:34:19Z

I started playing without reading anything and I didn't realize you weren't penalized for catching veggies with the wrong basket/not catching them, and I thought damn, this game looks cute but it's actually hardcore. Surprisingly fun, I think an online 'high scores' count would have been a great fit for this game, something like an infinite scrolling mode with only X misses allowed.

Yamsylvania by 0xWAVY 2023-01-08T21:55:45Z

Top notch production values, the music is very moody and everything looks great. The gameplay loop is simple but effective. My only complaint is that the controls seem to bug out sometimes when you hold multiple directions at once (and possibly also try to shoot?). Played it for a while trying to see how long I could run from those damn bats and still sell yams...What a polished entry.

Catchy by danmerey 2023-01-09T05:56:13Z

Lovely game! Recreating the feel of an old map must have been a challenge but it definitely works, the wind looks good, and fish species are just different enough to be noticeable. Honestly, this reminds me of playing mid-late 00s Armor Games flash games (and I meant that in the best way possible). Great work!

By the way, I noticed that ship hiding in the far east, behind the island!

No Farm, No Fowl by square wave 2023-01-11T05:59:59Z

Very polished for a compo, the animations on those feathers are impressive, the pixel art is great and the music works well. I think the SFX are a bit rough in comparison but that's just cause everything else is so nice. The game's fun to play, limiting the bullet regeneration to force you to kill multiple enemies is interesting, but it made me repeatedly get in some dangerous positions and the fact that any chicken 1-shots you is a bit annoying, because it makes you want to play safe. Still pretty engaging trying out the different upgrades.

Combine Harv-racer by procrasteroid 2023-01-10T00:13:04Z

Impressive work for a solo game. I agree with the other commenters, the core gameplay is fine but what really stands out are all the little touches like the corn growing back and the cows. I find it funny that hitting the fence doesn't slow you down, but hitting a cow does. And let me say, Cowmaggedon is a great idea. Nice work!

Wizard Block by tmpxyz 2023-10-07T03:33:35Z

I think the idea here is really good, combining the puzzle-like and platforming aspects, and especially adding money as an incentive to get additional bonuses. Handling the wizard is a bit awkward, but understandable considering how many mechanics you had to add here. I have to mention, it happened to me twice that I bought another potion slot or unlocked a new level and accidentally locked myself out of continuing the game, lol. Definitely my fault but it's probably also a good idea not to let the player do that. I also had the issue where I couldn't aim past a certain point in level 2 but switching out of full screen fixed it for me. Despite the nitpicks I had a good time playing this. Nice work!

Wizard Block by tmpxyz 2023-10-07T15:44:44Z

@tmpxyz Huh, I just tried it again on firefox and had no issue at all. My first playthrough was on Vivaldi so maybe the issue is with Chromium-based browsers? Or maybe it doesn't happen all the time, I'm not sure. And thank you, I really appreciate that. I've also enjoyed this game a lot, I think the core idea is great. By the way I had a thought, what if the random bucket was a "joker" instead that would take the color of the first tile it hits? You could then make it harder to reach to reinforce the "platforming" aspects. Well, just a thought if you feel like taking this further.

PIO by sbeif 2023-10-03T17:53:12Z

Pio pio!

Short but fun, and definitely on point with the theme.

I managed to beat the last level without eating multiple eagles (didn't know that was possible), I basically just waited in the middle for them to get to me and then ate and spit them all up top, which gave me enough time to run back to the nest. Speaking of which, I love how it says you get back to the safety of your nest when there are approximately 20 eagles waiting for you right outside haha.

Nice work!

Pixel Wielders by zealous-coder 2023-10-07T02:54:27Z

Really impressive for a PICO-8 entry, even more so considering it's a compo. I think the balance is not quite there and fights are over a bit too quick, and there are some performance issues but overall this is really great work.

Parking Garage Rally by walaber 2023-10-07T03:12:41Z

Good handling and the track is nicely designed to provide plenty of opportunities for skips and wonky physics. Really enjoyed that, and bonus points for the cool intro.

Mecha Walker by Le Don 2023-10-20T01:23:42Z

I really liked the premise of this game, travelling from town to town, doing jobs, having random encounters and balancing money & mech needs. It's halfway between a Fallout 1/2 style RPG and old flash games and I love that. The shop UI could surely be improved but it's functional enough for a jam game, and there is a good amount of content in this game considering the artwork for the mech, all the different parts and the random encounters. The amount of options in the shop could be overwhelming at first but I actually enjoyed getting to learn the game's "economy" this way.

There were 2 pretty game-breaking bugs that I encountered that almost gave me give up on the game, but thankfully I found a solution for both:

1. The fuel/food depletion rate seems to correlate with frame rate, because on my high refresh rate monitor I could never make it to the first town even with 7 food/8 fuel. Switching to 60fps seemed to fix this.

2. Every time I successfully complete a job, if I go straight into the shop tab I lose all the money I've earned. I haven't seen anyone else mention this so maybe it's a Vivaldi bug? Anyway, the fix was just to leave town first.

I really wanted to backtrack and keep upgrading my mech with all the TX parts once I reached the end, so this game has clearly done something right. The lack of polish makes it quite difficult to get into but once you do it's pretty fun. Also is it just me or are protection missions super hard?

Mecha Walker by Le Don 2023-10-22T13:58:32Z

Came back to see how some of the games I've enjoyed did in ratings, and ouch. I guess the LD crowd doesn't appreciate menu/text heavy games, which is a real shame because to me this is way more interesting than yet another platformer.

Sunfarers by Tim Leach 2023-10-03T15:39:37Z

Loved this. While the homeland is proud of me for building a thriving community, by grouping all my utilities together I feel like I have instead built a dystopian hellscape (just with a lot more flowers). Can you imagine working all day in the Potato Field District, and the only thing you can do to relax after work is going to the Flower Patch District?

Seriously though, the difficulty felt just right and the level of polish and gradual introduction of new mechanics make it very easy to pick up. If I had to nitpick something, a button to rotate buildings would have been useful (I may have missed it?), and sometimes rotating the planet around felt like it lead to gimbal lock, but overall as someone who really enjoys management/city building games this was a lot of fun!

Neptune's Wake by feor 2023-10-04T13:29:35Z

Thank you for the feedback everyone!

@matt-barnfield Thanks! I totally agree with both points. The sea eating away at tiles from the outside in was how it was originally setup, but then we realized our makeshift map editor didn't center tiles properly so all the scenarios had a major advantage for one of the teams, and we had to change how it behaved at the last moment before the deadline unfortunately.

@sbeif Great idea! We are a bit disappointed that we couldn't take the sacrifice mechanic further and that the game is so RNG-heavy now, wish we had thought of this workaround.

Bit Golf by badcop 2023-10-03T17:10:10Z

This is my favorite game so far this jam. I really wanted to do a compression themed game too but I couldn't find a good idea. Wish I had thought of this.

I have a few nitpicks, like I think run-lenth encoding could be better explained, and it took me a little bit to realize that the order of "rules" matters, but on the other hand I did enjoy getting that "Aha!" moment.

I feel like the difficulty of levels is very uneven, in general the ones that are "real text" have more difficult to find patterns and you find yourself looking closely at each punctuation mark, which might be more realistic but is a bit less fun.

Overall though, absolutely love the concept and great execution. Fantastic game!

Plummy's Tummy by Little Doctor Games 2023-10-04T21:48:14Z

It takes dying once or twice for the mechanics to click and then it starts being pretty addictive trying to survive and time the confetti just right. Ended up playing it for a while, my best was 1065 points and level 5 or 6, I'm curious how everyone else got on?

The only little nitpick I have is that in later levels the confetti made my browser lag, which is pretty funny for an 8 bit game. I like the design too, the enemies are really freaky looking. Nice job!

Get The Pumpkin! by yndajas 2023-10-03T16:09:04Z

Great job for your first full game. I'm not 100% sure if the house/door mechanic is interesting or confusing, but it certainly took me a few tries to get the hang of it. Managed to get the pumpkin in 32 seconds. You have to give points for a game that has 5 (or more?) different "start game" sounds including a few different languages!

Blueberry Boy Makes Space by nujank 2023-10-04T13:02:08Z

Goddamn this game is hard and frustrating, every obstacle feels like it was expertly crafted and timed to screw you right when you thought it was safe to go. I had a severe case of "just one more try" syndrome while trying to beat it, and I still haven't succeeded, but I'm gonna come back to it. Love the style too, seeing the entire map ahead of you is pretty cool.

LD57 — Depths

Dice of Fates by qui 2025-04-08T12:51:42Z

This game was quite confusing and hard to understand at first (for me, at least). Here's my short explanation if it can help other players: the point of the game is to make up words that represent professions (on the right) using the dice you are given. The order of the dice doesn't matter as long as you have the right letters. Every time you roll, you can choose to keep dice or reroll them, and when you roll again that advances the wheel of time which triggers random events like replacing certain dice, making it easier or harder to form the words you want. Hover over each die to know what letters they can roll.

I pushed on even though I was confused because I was super impressed with the presentation and the mood. The art in particular I think is amazing with a lot of life to it. I really wanted to see what each profession would look like, and the music/ambience is also great. Really great work there, it has a mystical oracle kind of atmosphere.

Once you get into it and the game's mechanics starts to make sense, it's pretty good. I think it would have been nice to add a limit somehow to how many times you can reroll, because right now you can just choose to not pay attention to the wheel and roll until you get what you want.

Also, not sure if that was intentional but I was a bit annoyed that the first time I got 'DEPTHS', it unlocked the spy rather than the hero. Another note, I think the different dice types should have different graphics since they have overlap. Right now you need to hover over each to be sure of what they can roll. I managed to unlock everyone anyway :)

Dantes Descendants by elZach 2025-04-10T10:31:26Z

Probably my favorite game in this jam so far! Fantastic idea and great execution, with a lot of personality. I was drawn in by the swearing italians and online aspects but I stayed for the battle strategies. I think I tried it 3 or 4 separate times so if you encounter a bunch of Feors running around down there, you know why! Only managed to make it to battle 8 so far because my builds haven't been working out, but I definitely want to try this again and get to the 9th circle. Great job.

Neon Wars by StefanHolst 2025-04-09T18:14:32Z

I really like the aesthetics and the mechanics work, but I think part of the issue with balance is that towers seems to have very large range, especially the rocket ones, so that you can seemingly place them anywhere. That also reduces the strategy involved and it becomes a game of spamming towers. Which was sort of interesting in its own right, I wanted to see how much I could push the game and it turns out my pc starting to lag was the real limit.

Screenshot 2025-04-09 200946.png

With that said I still had enough interest to complete the game twice, so y'know, it did something right. Cool looking effects as well.

Dig in, Gus! by bigwhiteshogun 2025-04-08T12:08:17Z

Had a lot of fun with this one even though the digging take on theme felt a little bit by the book. You learn early on that finding a nice wide open space is a good way to land your butt in the thorns. The mechanics feel really tight, especially the way you can sometimes keep jumping by grabbing on to the wall, but I think they are being somewhat let down by the controls. Especially if you play with the mouse, it really feels like you should be able to aim using the mouse.

The difficulty felt just right to me and I finished the game in a few tries. I will say once you collect all the ore the arrow seems to not point to the exact location which you entered from but somewhere close, which was a bit confusing but I ended up getting it. Probably felt more tense cause I only had one life left. Presentation was very good, well done there. Really enjoyable entry overall!

Super Mecha Diggin Dodge Idle by wheelsx 2025-04-08T11:32:48Z

Super easy to get going even without instructions. Played it for quite a while without getting anywhere close to the end. I will say having to toggle the weapons stuff off and on every time was a bit annoying and I think maybe a few lines of text/story would have made it more engaging, but it's a cute and playable idle game. Well done.

Deep Blue by poboy 2025-04-10T10:56:17Z

I felt the descent into madness went by too quickly and I wanted more of it, which speaks to the quality of the writing. I double checked the morse code at a few points (WHATHATHGODWROUGHT) because I thought it would have been a perfect opportunity to sneak in a hidden message, especially considering the mental state of the protagonist. A few other people noted the morse code entry was very unforgiving which was a bit frustrating, but then again that probably fits with the emotions the main character is feeling. Nice work.

A Call from the Void by Oinkle 2025-04-09T03:19:13Z

Oh this is fun. The third message took me a WHILE because I stupidly paid no attention to the page that could have helped me solve it, but it was even more satisfying when I did. The other ones were enjoyable and straightforward enough with the book.

Screenshot 2025-04-09 051850.png

Not too much to comment on in terms of gameplay, what was there worked well enough. Atmosphere and so on pretty good as well. The only thing is that sometimes due to the resolution it was quite hard to make out some of the letters and especially the Morse code. Other than that, this is a great little game for a relaxed evening :)

Through The Stars by Xackii 2025-04-08T13:58:20Z

You're really fighting against the controls for your life here, it's quite difficult but I like it. Pretty smart to turn the limitation of the controls into a gameplay feature. The upgrades are pretty cool, I really enjoyed the one that changes your controls into a driving wheel (which is somehow even more difficult) or the one that lets you get more turning radius (a godsend)! I managed to beat the game but it took qutie a few tries. This is good stuff. Had no performance issues playing the web version either.

Awakening by Celian 2025-04-08T11:44:15Z

Great presentation and an interesting take on the theme. I think the puzzle aspects could have been pushed even further with this idea, there's quite a lot of potential there. The dynamic background is a nice touch. Also, am I the only one who was reminded of Danbo from Yotsubato?

Shrimply Fishing by ACarr 2025-04-08T18:53:49Z

If people could eat naval mines, those supplied by the *SS Sushi* would never go hungry. Very cute little game, I dig the art. Managed to catch a sea bass, clown fish, hammerhead shark and an eel (didn't even notice the grammar mistake before the game pointed it out). It's a bit lacking in the UI department as you mention, things like a meter for the launch angle and power, maybe a log like the other commenter suggested, but it's still playable. Simple and enjoyable.

Aeternia by VPro 2025-10-08T23:28:02Z

Engaging little adventure. It took me a little while but I completed the game and found 3 spells along the way (I think that's all of them? Don't wanna give away too much).

Bit bummed that I found out you could get items so late, as I found out about that screen last! Honestly not much else to say, it's just a cute self-contained bit of exploration, and the sound design really helps to sell it.

The only annoying bug I encountered is that sometimes when a Batrax was killed by another animal, it'd freeze the game. Mostly happened on the screen with Dr. Zaied. High marks otherwise.

Dragons Hoard by Luna-Smol 2025-10-07T15:48:04Z

Yeah, yeah, AP's pretty good, but have you tried just throwing rubber duckies at the knights?!

This is a fun little adventure. I'd say it has enough systems/stats/items and in general depth to it that I wouldn't mind if it were 3 or 4 weeks instead of 1, with different, stronger enemies at the end of each week, just to really get a feel for all the possibilities. Nice work!
