Very nice game! Good idea to add tips for next steps by cat. Great music and graphics
The art style is so cute!
I didn't guess what to do next after a small key, hehe ^^ music and graphics is cute! voice is funny ^^
I love the graphics, I didn't solve the story, I will try again ! good job :)
Great game!
Okay this is really good. The whole idea of combining different ingredients requiring a bit of ingenuity and timing really sells the idea that you're actually making potions. The art style is gorgeous and the puzzles are really quite unique. Really fun game, thankyou for putting this out!
So chill and cute. Music is so pleasant. I like this very much!
Great musics and graphics, amazing and cute cat noises ! Tips and interactions with the cat are a good idea, it gives a good feeling with the game and help us. Good work !:D
I really enjoyed this. The art style was cute, and the music effect in the basement was a nice touch. Overall a really nice game!
I have to say, I absolutely love the art style. I wish I could comment on it further but whenever I try to play it on Firefox, my CPU and RAM usage get up to 99% which makes the game unplayable, it seems to happen about 30-60 seconds inor when I try to enter the second room. It could absolutely be a problem on my end, but could you maybe provide a Windows build? Looking forward to playing it!
@feor Thanks for the feedback! The app is just written in Javascript and HTML, so there's no real way to make a Windows native build. We developed it in Chrome on Windows; would you be willing to try it on Chrome or another Chromium-based browser?
I suck at counting seconds, so I took longer than I wanted haha. The mechanic of brewing is fun though, very cute little point and click adventure; I did use the cheat sheet though....
The potion brewing feels amazing, even if it took me a good 5 minutes to figure it out, beautiful art style and music choice. Saw you mention you did this is HTML and Javascript which blows my mind, gj
Great artstyle! But it might can be more convenient to interact with objects.
Extremely cute and fun! Took me a while to stop trying to drag object in cauldron and instead click.
Also very cool to achieve that with nothing else but JS and HTML. Great work!
Very chill and cute game, sounds are great! But I want to see more items to choose and interact.
Went back and played it on Chrome and everything went smoothly. What I like about this game, more than any specific game mechanic or art piece, is that everything in it reminds me of a Roald Dahl book.
game is very cute and cozy, from the art to the music to the little interactions with the cat and the ghost. i will say that the game immediately ended after i used rutabaga potion, though I was hearing some dialogue sounds which makes me think that there was some very last dialogue/scene i didn't get to see.
when i finally get the gravity stone, the cat says "great you have all the pieces for the last potion on the list" which makes me think that you're actually supposed to use the recipe for the last potion (which to be fair, i would have never guessed that recipe on my own). maybe have the ghost potion recipe in a separate area, like inside the ghost attic?
@stellarluminant thanks for the detailed feedback!
Don't worry, you didn't miss any cutscene at the end or anything, the dialog noise is just a result of the same rutabaga dialog playing again in the background (we started implementing that room around hour 71 and it was a bit rushed :D)
A really cute game and the music is so pleasant~ The game mechanic of having to time the potion brewing just right is a fun idea. Gathering the ingredients was a bit frustrating though after many failed attempts since you have to repeatedly walk next to each item to pick them and go between rooms. I think I'd prefer if you could just click to take each item when you're in the same room, but maybe that's just my tired brain complaining :'D overall it's a good game and the vibe is nice. Great job!
I really like the way the background music changes between rooms, the singing plants is my jam :D The cooking minigame really sells the aspect of brewing but like mentioned above recollecting the ingredients can be a bit frustrating. Interesting seeing it be implemented directly via a canvas, cool work! Oh, and all the art is great as well, good job all around :D
Really nice art in this, I like the the movement to it all. The brewing mini game is pretty cool and well executed. Having the cat kind of guide you was also a cool idea, though it would've been nice to know the basement door was now open without having to consult the cat lol Overall a very nice an polished entry. Well done
Cool concept, I got stuck at the hushroom. The brew mechanics are fun and challenging. Also a good solution of a hint giver aka the cat.
Really cute and chill ambience ! I found the room with the plants singing very relaxing :) And art reminds of a child illustration book !
I love this! Had a bit of trouble starting up, I had issues knowing what was an ingredient and what wasn't : maybe highlighting on hover would've helped with this?
The cute artstyle, music, overall chill ambiance and that little ghost friend had me sticking to the end (I do have a weakness with ghosts/glowy-eyes-on-shadowy-body characters :D ). Really enjoy the fact that you added text when you talk to them in a ghost form!
The cheatsheet also helped, I wasn't able to figure out the hushroom potion on my own since I hadn't found the wood nor the dew, dumb me :(
Congratulations to the team for this wonderful entry!
Very cute little game! I really like the moving leaves background. The audio and atmosphere is very charming too.
The movement going through doors did feel a bit clunky. Same with how the ingredients go into the pot. Drag and drop would have felt a bit more natural for that. Only other issue is it felt like some of the text was missing or something? Like I don't know why I suddenly needed a gravity stone. Did I miss a conversation with the cat?
Other than those minor issues this game is really solid. Awesome work on this, I really enjoyed playing!
I love the art style and navigation of the home! But you've already heard that a ton.
There are some immediate fixes for a post jam build. Your witch standing in front of items that obscures where to click to pick them up can be solved by just allowing players to pick up items regardless of where they are in the room.
The cat acts as a great tutorial, I think expanding his role further for a full release would help players get over the initial hump of getting started. Rather than having a cheat-sheet, the familliar can offer cryptic clues when needed.
Very cute entry! I hope to see you expand on this.
Oh wow, love the art! The ghost's art is my favorite; such a nice texture, transparency, and expression. My other favorite detail is that the ladder in the basement is made of birch trees. The writing is very charming too. Music and sound are great; love the little kittycat talking noises.
Right off the bat, I had trouble finding the key, but it turned out to be because I kept trying to go through the door on the left and thought I couldn't yet -- I clicked it a few times and didn't go through (maybe because the cat's dialogue was open?).
The potion-making itself was very clever, satisfying, and fun! I always like it when I feel like I'm actually learning how to do something as I play the game more. I noticed and appreciated how often I was given hints -- this game could have been way too difficult, but with the hints it was mostly good. I still had a lot of trouble figuring out anti-morning-dew, since I would have just expected it to be the anti-dote plus morning dew (I assumed anti-morning-dew would be its own potion). The gravity stone potion was very difficult. This is the Dark Souls of witches brew games.
I would have preferred a little less backtracking when I made mistakes (although it did work for Dark Souls). My other nitpick is that the UI mostly looks great, but every so often there's Times New Roman or Arial (or Helvetica?) on a button which feels a little unfinished. To be fair, though, I don't know the constraints you were working with, and kudos on making a mobile-and-desktop-compatible browser app!
Lastly, I am concerned for the ghost. Is he okay?
Great job overall! Very ambitious and polished.
Excellent adventure game (my favorite genre)!! Very good implementation of the theme with the brewing of potions! Excellent visuals and music. Great job!
I tested a few games with brewing potions' mechanics and I must say your's the best one so far! Very cute art, the brewing was hard enough to be entertaining for longer than I thought and the cat giving tips was a nice idea as well. The music was pleasant from the beginning to the end (I admit spending a bit of time in the attic doing nothing but listening to the radio with the Ghost :D). All in all, a really well-made game that I would love to see more of, congrats!
