LD28 — You Only Get One

Life: The Cynical-Hipster-Tetris Version by Tim Kaldor 2013-12-16T19:00:00

What an interesting game. I especially like when I was told that it wasn't as easy as it looked, that got a laugh out of me. I'm not entirely sure why I died, though.

Graphics are crisp and clean.

Son by Hemuuuli 2013-12-16T05:43:00

This game looks really cool. I kind of wish I could see a little clearer, but I'm sure that was the intent. This game provides a great sense of fear when you are hiding, and there is an enemy on a wall opposite you.

FowL Play by Sakuyan 2013-12-16T19:23:00

Finally, a game where I get to be a chicken! The movement is excellent.

siamese by ittlebit 2013-12-16T19:25:00

Neat idea, but the controls could use some work.

Gods of Baloo by timtipgames 2013-12-16T04:37:00

I'm having trouble running this game. When I start it, the game goes fullscreen with a dark gray color. There's music playing.

I'm on 64 bit linux, I've got an nVidia graphics card, and I'm using Awesome window manager. I can give you any other info you might need.

Here's the output in the terminal:

chris@spire:~/Desktop$ java -jar GodsOfBaloo.jar
Resolution: 5760 led to scaleFact: 3.0
com.timtips.ressources.AssetManager: trying to get batch before preload called

Gods of Baloo by timtipgames 2013-12-16T04:40:00

Never mind, I turned off some monitors, and all is well. I am a sucker for physics games, and this one is really cool.

Speedy Tiny Golf! by Xgor 2013-12-16T17:17:00

This is pretty neat. It was weird to realize that I can hit that ball lots of times, and that timing is key. It goes against everything I know about mini golf.

Dead Planet by Hypnohustla 2013-12-16T15:41:00

Nicely done.
It's irritating when three of those yellow guys show up.

Linux users probably expect .tar.gz, but we're used to dealing with .rars and .zips also.

0RBITALIS by AlanZucconi 2013-12-16T04:20:00

I really like the graphical style, and the simplicity.

One Chance One Life by kovacsmarcell99 2013-12-16T14:53:00

Man, if I had to run down an endless field of spikes, I wouldn't be nearly as excited to be there as that yellow dude.

Button"Space" by miklyha 2013-12-16T14:39:00

Interesting concept. I'd have liked to see a few more levels, though.

RedLines by explosivose 2013-12-16T19:27:00

Neat game. The shaking made it a bit disorienting...

Clicky Blocks by dstozek 2013-12-16T18:01:00

I admire anyone who, given 48 hours, decides to make an online multiplayer game. It's cool to build things with other people online, but the one block restriction (while obviously needed) is a bit of a bummer.

Tankdare by Dynad 2013-12-16T17:26:00

The lighting is top notch. The movement's a bit weird, but that's not bad.

Alone/Awake by PaperBlurt 2013-12-16T15:16:00

Very interesting, being stranded in space is an irrational fear of mine. It's cool to play through a few times.

If you preload your images, by putting image tags in the document with something like "display:none", the animations won't flicker.

The Misfight by dudsen 2013-12-16T17:20:00

"You hit a guy with a bottle within 4.45 seconds and you don't even know why". Brilliant.

I don't see what this has to do with the theme. It's neat, but quite short.

Chatbox Galore by zorfmorf 2013-12-16T14:59:00

I'm not sure what I only get one of. Neat idea, it would be cooler if there were more people playing. I'll try again later in the day.

Take one thing with you. by background_nose 2013-12-16T14:31:00

Neat game, I like the lighting.
I think it's rude to tell someone that they're worth NaN...

Unibrow by ViliX64 2013-12-16T05:58:00

I really like the core mechanic, but I wish there were more reasons to switch back.

Pilot's Last Stand by phi6 2013-12-16T17:33:00

The way you do engine damage is cool, it's very disorienting.

Mikes toy by d_0o_d 2013-12-16T17:51:00

The game froze when I beat level 10. Interesting game. The hook is cool, but it would be nice if it drew a line from you to the hook while you were flying around.

City of Death by dznemotion 2013-12-16T17:05:00

I really like this game. The noise / film grain when you're running is a nice touch, along with the drum loop fading in. The mood is excellent. I just wish I could understand what he's saying every time I walk into a shadow.

Definitely one of my favorites so far.

Park King by Chris Mondok 2013-12-16T15:00:00

Thanks. It works on a touch screen, but it's much more difficult to avoid car collisions. With some tweaks, it might be good on a tablet, though.

Park King by Chris Mondok 2013-12-16T15:43:00

Sorry about the PM bit, the theme is lost when your break is at 13:00 and not 1:00 PM. Parked doesn't mean anything. You could go ahead and leave all of your cars in the top row, but then it would fill up and you'd lose. When your car (white) comes back from lunch / the start of the day, you need to bring it to the bottom zone.

DISTANT WORLD FOR THE BOTH OF US by Cell 2013-12-16T15:33:00

Looks cool, despite the vast array of colors used. I really like the movement on the wheel. I don't like that I can't see very far. I'm sure it's deliberate, but it's also annoying.

Drain by hydancer 2013-12-16T05:34:00

Very slick looking. It would be nice, however, if it were more obvious when beings were being created / destroyed.

Fountain by Terry 2013-12-16T17:12:00

I really like the mechanics, the sound, the graphics, and the mood. The way the pallet changes is very cool. Unfortunately, I didn't find it fun to play. Having to keep returning to the fountain is frustrating, especially in a game that makes the player want to explore.

Out by SuperPokeunicorn 2013-12-16T05:17:00

The platform was a little too finicky, it was either the lack of inertia, or some bounding box issues, but I am sure glad that you have infinite lives!

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Dozer's Gem Jam by PoQA Games 2014-04-28T01:21:00

You should probably switch from the link reading "Web" to "Windows". I cannot play this game in my browser.

GameJammed by ShivanHunter 2014-04-28T16:48:00

Neat game. I really like the light effects. However, the area I could see was so small, I wound up just shooting all of the time in order to see.

NOT THE ELEPHANT by snapman_GT 2014-05-03T13:22:00

What a neat idea! And the game has such charm.

A Mole's Life by Gins 2014-04-28T16:57:00

Neat concept! Digging is a little awkward, though.

Sub Diver by greg-anims 2014-04-28T16:36:00

Pretty neat. I think it would be better without reverse, but that's just a personal preference.

Uncle Jack's Knick Knack Shack by rlangewi 2014-05-04T19:19:00

This game is really cool. Neat mechanic, solid movement / feel, moves at a good pace, kickin' music. If I had to pick on something, I'd say that it's a little too unforgiving. Great game!

Bitxl's Kool Place by nigelmnz 2014-04-28T02:41:00

The game is quite funny, but a little short. I think.

async by remmy 2014-05-04T19:10:00

Pretty neat, and congrats on your first canvas project. I think the player has way too much momentum, though.

Amazing! Beneath The Surface by nonetheless 2014-05-03T13:28:00

Pretty neat idea. The sounds got a little annoying, which is only really a problem since they're the star of the show.

Very cool art style.

Dungeon Jelly by Detocroix 2014-05-03T13:36:00

This is definitely the wobbliest game I've played this year. Looks cool. Gameplay wise, it's a bit lacking.

Ascent by sstrandberg 2014-04-28T16:29:00

This game is really cool, but it could use a less technical course. As a beginner, it was not an ideal environment to grasp the controls / feel.

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Seam of the Vultures by ohsqueezy 2014-12-19T17:41:00

I don't know why, but I really like this art style / color palette. The gameplay is neat (although I was totally lost until I read the instructions. Whoops!) I found it a bit frustrating, though, when I was about to capture a large area and the waves that I'm constrained to move closer together. That part felt too random.

Your Screen is Mine! by D3zmodos 2014-12-10T03:09:00

I wanted to try this out, but it doesn't work on my (admittedly esoteric environment). Instead, it opens a tiny window (see screenshot) in the upper left corner of my screen. I don't know if it's the resolution, or the fact that I'm on linux, or the Awesome window manager, but it doesn't like something. I'll try it out on a windows machine later, for sure.

$2000-$3fff by ianh 2014-12-09T01:52:00

This is a work of art. It is beautiful. I cannot imagine the mentality that would lead you to develop a game for an ancient game console for a 72 hour game development event, but massive props!

BBQ DAD by Luke Molnar 2014-12-09T13:30:00

That's all it takes to be a super dad, huh?

Derelict by Justin Mullin 2014-12-10T02:59:00

Very cool game. The sense of foreboding is impressive considering the minimal graphics.

Strangely, the sound was *extremely* quiet. I had to turn my speakers all the way up to hear anything (and they're usually quite loud, I never have them up over 20%).

Cool game, it's pretty hard.

Snowman Race by Chris Mondok 2014-12-09T01:33:00

I know that the game won't work in IE, nor on iOS. If you get an error in chrome, though, please let me know what it said!

Snowman Race by Chris Mondok 2014-12-10T03:38:00

Sorry Mac users, I don't know if it's PeerJS or if it's WebRTC in general, but it doesn't look like there's much I can do to get it to work on OSX.

Maze Escape by Gins 2014-12-19T17:35:00

Very cool. Solid platforming mechanics, and good level design. I really like this game!

SMS by Newt_ 2014-12-09T02:17:00

Pretty cool. I like the dialog. Also worth noting, the game runs fine on linux in python2.

You Are Lost by farwyler 2014-12-09T01:38:00

I really wanted to like this game. It looks and sounds neat, and the atmosphere is great. But, I didn't really understand why I was leaving the campfire. Is there an eventual objective? I found other campfires, but didn't know if there was something I was supposed to be doing.

I'm reminded a little of Don't Starve (which is a good thing).

Chroma Maze by gana0 2014-12-09T01:42:00

Neat! I like this concept. I really like how the music pauses when you get the hourglass item. This game does a great job of setting a frantic pace.

Patricia I by theFireman 2014-12-10T02:39:00

I like the art style. I think it might feel more complete if the fish had discrete positions, but that could also be annoying?

Pretty cool.

The Unexpected Adventures Of Doctor Supertronic Flying Machine. by Shampop 2014-12-10T03:20:00

I really like the way you did the fly sound. Pretty neat idea. It's annoying, though, that sometimes I die and I don't know why.

Grandpa's Grid by NoGrapes 2014-12-09T01:32:00

Fairly difficult, but I did beat it eventually! What's the password for?

PAROLEBALL by Virtually Competent 2014-12-10T02:43:00

I'm going to have to come back to this on a different computer. I really wanted to play this game. But, unless I don't understand something, I can't launch the ball. Start spawns a ball, but the triggers do nothing. On the keyboard, space does nothing. Also, as long as I have a controller plugged in, it's always making shooting noises.

I'm on Linux, and I've tried both Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers.

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Soul Of The Forest by Multiplexor 2015-05-02T00:38:00

The player looks pretty cool, but it's very hard to tell where his bounds end, which makes platforming awkward.

Crystal Chords by monkfallsinsnow 2015-05-02T00:30:00

As a non-musician, I found this highly confusing until I realized that it boiled down to a "combo" mechanic. But the musical interaction could use some work.

LD45 — Start with nothing

I Am A Square by ivexnuke 2019-10-09T02:33:47Z

Fun game, but just as soon as I figured out how to play, it was over.

Tardigrades on the Moon by bassguitarbill 2019-10-09T02:57:32Z

Sorry for the zoom issue, I guess I should have tested in Chrome before pushing the change to center on the cursor. It's fixed now.

Pinbuilder by tequilatom 2019-10-09T03:32:57Z

Very cool, and especially impressive for eight hours! Add a background (to provide a frame of reference), and let me pick up these pieces, and I think you've got a really compelling game.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

My Friend John by kassanu 2021-04-26T14:29:35Z

Interesting idea, though I couldn't tell if I was just really good at clicking on things, or if there was no penalty for clicking on the wrong things.

I laughed out loud at my first spam message.

Astronomical Assault by Anuke 2021-04-26T15:44:04Z

Fun, though it's hard to tell what's going on at times. Never fought eggs before, so there's that. Given that it starts all over when I die, I'd like to have some sort of score.

Bumpysphere by bassguitarbill 2021-04-26T14:20:06Z

Very neat, this game feels very cohesive and well put-together. I think the messages could have been more obvious. The first time I lost, I completely missed the message that said press R to restart (three times!), and reloaded the window.

Picking up the final treasure was very tense!

The NYPD Shaman by WongKongPhooey 2021-04-28T00:30:11Z

Cool concept! I found the driving controls a little awkward. I really like the art style.

Blue Eye - Salvage & Rescue by PurpledArtFrog 2021-04-27T02:18:06Z

Cool game, though I had a bit of trouble figuring out what was going on for a while. I thought I had to _avoid_ the fish and eels. Message kept appearing and disappearing at the bottom of the screen but I didn't have time to read them, and didn't know what to do about seismic activity anyway. I got some armor but don't know what it does. Regardless, once I figured out the other stuff, I had fun.

Ocean Is Your Friend by Abu Sabiq Mahdi 2021-04-27T18:48:20Z

I really like the "look and feel" of this game. It feels very polished.

I think I need something else to do on the way down, though, other than fixing cracks. I spent most of the game waiting to get to the right depth.

Space Digger by Rob Avery 2021-04-26T15:16:32Z

This is crashing at start with "illegal character U+FFFD". Build.framework.js.br looks like binary or compressed data, but it's trying to load it as if it were javascript.

Deep Randomizer by Omich 2021-04-26T14:17:29Z

Pretty interesting. I had some trouble understanding some of the weapon descriptions ("small medium laser?"), and ended up adopting a strategy of just seeing if it would hurt me and if not just shooting around. In the end I think the timer takes away from the random weapons, because I didn't really have to figure out how to use them. Still, fun, played a few times, and did get to the end (Yay!).

Depths of the Mind by chris-mondok 2021-04-26T15:31:39Z

@thatmanrobin was it unclear that contemplation is an in game action, and that I'm not actually asking the player to contemplate life? Of course you're free to do so IRL but it won't affect your score.

Depths of the Mind by chris-mondok 2021-04-27T22:48:14Z

@vasco-freitas "like banging pots", yep, I recorded myself hitting a broiling pan a few times. I didn't have a submarine on hand to record. The engine noise was going to be my dishwasher slowed down, but it didn't loop nicely.

I wasn't sure how to communicate the damage. I wanted to avoid the normal "damage" meter, and settled on some help text and increased bubbles. Maybe I should have added, like, a "-20s" for damage or something.

Thanks for playing!

Depths of the Mind by chris-mondok 2021-04-27T22:50:52Z

@welby the art that gets drawn was a last-minute addition. The backstory was there from the start, and it wasn't until I had some time left at the end that I figured I couldn't use that story and not show some "art". Fortunately it's your contemplation, not the art, that counts for your score (but art is just contemplation divided by 10).

The Dwarves of Mt. Deep by Kimberly 2021-04-28T00:04:37Z

I've edited this comment. FYI this game is has a big magenta triangle on top of it in Firefox, but it works fine in Chrome.

Interesting game, I like the way the lantern works. At first I thought I was screwed by the RNG but no I'm just an idiot (and it looks to be deterministic). I got the deepstone! Very fun!

The music slaps.

triangle.png

Sinking City by glichseaker000 2021-04-26T15:18:51Z

Neat idea! Unfortunately I didn't play for very long, the mouse is **way** too sensitive!

Wrangler's Knot - Deep Dive Sea Fishing by welby 2021-04-27T13:56:34Z

Very cool, I really like the idea! I was a bit confused about how to use the knot, usually it would delete the rope but the fish were still left just hanging out by the boat.

Search for the Undergem by FluffyGameDev 2021-04-26T14:46:52Z

Fun, but needs some tuning. It was easy for me to buy every upgrade. The ladder mechanic is interesting, it keeps me coming back to the surface.

Also! I thought "slow walker" was the name of the upgrade, not saying that _I_ was a slow walker. I expected this upgrade to slow me down, and did not buy it. I wish I bought it earlier on!

The Final Journey by kernon 2021-04-26T14:53:51Z

This game has superb mood. The lighting, the sound, the creaking noises… I also really like the way the submarine slides along the steep edges if you bump into them.

I think it's a little too easy to "win", I had probably â…” of the purple meter when I hit the bottom, and I did hit a couple of mines.

Financial Irresponsibility Simulator by SpaceLawnmower 2021-04-26T15:24:17Z

I really like the premise. But the floor is dreadful to behold. This is the first game that has let me live out my fantasy of buying an entire nation!

Falling Rock by David Horning 2021-04-26T15:28:48Z

I love the simplicity of the monochrome graphics and the one-button controls. Fun but feels a bit too random. I'd like it if the game was a bit faster paced. Nothing that would require me to jump more often / frequently, but something other than trying to guess how far to jump would help. There was a bird once but it must be very rare!

Apapon by Occasoftware 2021-04-26T14:55:51Z

I want to play this game but I don't know how to get it. The windows link goes to this page, and I don't have Visual Studio installed to compile it.

MinesweeperDeeper by DainTheDeer 2021-04-27T02:37:02Z

Really cool twist on the classic game! It took me more time than I'd like to admit to wrap my head around the empty blocks. For some reason, I kept thinking that there could be mines under the numbers. I think I was thrown off by the fact that blank blocks can appear at the borders of the empty space, which can't happen in the regular game.

Minor gripes, I'd like to be able to use WASD, arrows + mouse is a bit awkward. Also, middle-clicking on a number that's next to that many flags should reveal the surrounding squares. Not taking points off for these but it's a bit tedious to click all of the blocks surrounding a 1.
