LD24 — Evolution

Actinium the Wrought by Thomas Ingham 2012-08-27T15:14:00

I thought the music suited the game very well, sounded quite primitive/tribal, which suited the character (only thing I have against it is the possible lack of sounds related to player actions). I think the graphics were quite well suited as well, loved the dust behind the player.

Main problem I found (which severely hurt the fun for me) was the apparent lack of the ability to start again without restarting the game , when you die (I played on the webplayer so you would need to reload the player to restart it seemed), a simple "Press R to restart" would have been great help in that regard.

Lastly there is no mention of what the different bars at the top represent...I just know that the twirly things make them go up :P

Phantom planet by Killerbug 2012-08-28T18:48:00

Looks really cool, I love the clouds! >_< Hope you manage to finish it sometime...

Evolution Through Alchemy by D3zmodos 2012-08-27T18:38:00

everchanger: I was somewhat tempted to make reloading entirely automatic as the restriction is really on the fact that you have to reload, not on remembering to tell it to reload.

That's weird about the webplayer though, it works for me... anybody else's webplayer not working?

Outside of the Test Tube by ramoncb 2012-08-28T18:59:00

Quite cool, did have a few troubles initially with some of the placement (wouldn't highlight the correct saucer) but other than that I thought it looked quite good

uni.bb by IndigoWolf 2012-08-29T07:26:00

I thought the idea was pretty cool, pity you started so late...

Maybe develop it further some time?

terravolve by Vordux 2012-08-28T18:32:00

I thought it was a cool idea but I found it difficult to navigate and find the continent I wanted to save, maybe making the buildings disappear off of a continent when it dies? Or having a label saying which is which?

Maybe I'm just bad at navigating spheres the way I want to...I personally would have preferred arrow keys to rotate left/right or up/down

Passive by Suffolk and Clever 2012-08-29T07:36:00

Really pretty and fun, my only problem was the load times that seemed a bit long, but other than that it was great!

Zombie 0 by infinitedog 2012-08-29T09:41:00

The game can get a little frustrating due to the randomness of the humans, and sometime I'd stand on top of a guy, press space and it'd say I died... =/ Cool idea though

Block Shoot by KhaoTom 2012-08-29T09:35:00

Pretty cool, although the effects of the evolution are not always immediately evident, and the shooting noise gets to me a little after a while

A Conglomerate of Pixels by creative630 2012-08-29T07:17:00

Pretty fun, I was sad that it ended so quickly...

Once I even completed a level without doing anything...thanks AI :D

LD25 — You are the Villain

The Crown Jewels Job by Will Edwards 2012-12-18T14:30:00

Pretty cool game, I really liked the music!

MEMEX by Cake&Code 2012-12-19T17:23:00

Really well put together game, slightly annoying the way the movement is sort of continuous, it sometimes doesnt stop where I expect/want it to.

Villain Tower Defender by Eamon 2012-12-18T16:36:00

I liked the way the little men were animated, looked pretty good. Aiming's pretty hard though so it takes some practice :P

For me the waves also seemed to kinda blend into each other, there wasn't much to indicate like "Ok, so now its wave 2" and separate it from other waves kinda thing.

Aliens and the End of the World by D3zmodos 2012-12-18T11:32:00

@NuSan ye I wanted to make the humans really interact with what you did (IE if a UFO got shot down then they got extra research or something).

Virus by Ardale 2012-12-18T16:30:00

Had a few framerate issues every now and then and it took me a while to figure out exactly how things worked. Once I got going though it was pretty cool.

Fun game, I really liked it.

Cow Stealer by ParaPup 2012-12-19T16:25:00

Haha those cows look so awesome! Only issue (a minor one) is that the positioning sometimes goes a little weird (like if you hold down space while not moving, and cows spawning on top of each other).

Carnage by SXPanda 2012-12-18T16:48:00

Really fun game, gonna check up on exactly how you did those highscores because I did that in a game of mine a little while back it wasn't nearly as streamlined it seems. Pity about my hand flying into the sky sometimes - maybe to come crashing down extra hard on those peasants? ;)

JASPrincess by dreamwalker 2012-12-18T22:09:00

Very cool, very villainous. I love how the guards only come after you if they actually see you and not just if you're within a certain range of them.

Heroes are so Annoying! by Knighty 2012-12-18T16:54:00

Pretty cool concept, and really well put together I thought.

I do think the abilities that have effects for 1 turn are rather pointless I think, they need to last longer.

The World is Mine! by matthias_zarzecki 2012-12-18T17:46:00

I didn't even get a chance to go to space with my rocket pad =/ Was really fun though.

Super Paper Monster Smasher by Jesse Freeman 2012-12-19T23:13:00

So simple yet so fun!

Treasure Defender by Cosine 2012-12-18T21:57:00

I. Love. This. Game.

Always been a fan of tower defenses and this one just really did it for me. I would demand that you take this further but I kinda of think that the simplicity really makes this as awesome as I think it is.

Unfortunately it doesn't really tie into the theme (the "heroes" don't look much like heroes and their names are never shown in-game (that I saw :O)). But still...you even had a level editor!

In good heart by pighead10 2012-12-21T15:07:00

Villain being villainous towards other villains...Cool idea! Quite hard though :P

LD26 — Minimalism

Police Escape by D3zmodos 2013-04-29T20:57:00

@peggiosoft ye...I didn't get round to fixing that, figured it was more important to at least get something that was somewhat playable out, and it doesn't happen all that often (although often enough to warrant it being on the "to fix soon" list).

@pjchardt 1) I noticed the issue with the screen size as well...it was initially even more zoomed in =/ I zoomed it out a little and didn't think much about it since then, but come to think of it...yes it could definitely do with a some more zooming out.
2) Yes...yes using the mouse is most definitely annoying, meant to add that...guess I didn't get round to it/forgot about it/was lazy (MOAR EXCUSES!!!11!! :P)
Glad you enjoyed it though

@scheurneus True, but I was lazy and never added an exit button...guess Alt+F4 will need to suffice for now =/

The Side Factor by zazery 2013-05-01T16:57:00

I like the idea, and lasers always help :P

Wasn't such a fan of the way that you could only turn 90 degrees in 1 direction though.

Battle Pixels by Atridas 2013-05-01T17:23:00

Its like a dota version of a football manager game :P

Sound started out ok, but when all 3 lanes are completely clogged up, its pretty unbearalbe :<
I was also a little dissappointed by the lack of unit variety (only 3?)

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Your Screen is Mine! by D3zmodos 2014-12-08T17:37:00

@rokom ye there was meant to be more of a progression with new enemies getting introduced over time and having weapon drops to keep it interesting but we ran out of time :( Also would have liked to spend a bit more time tuning how the game gets harder over the course of each round.

I'm glad people like the idea though :)

Law Breaker by deepnight 2014-12-08T11:02:00

Fun to play and really pretty, only issue I had was that I'm more used to games involving cars having left/right turn you instead of just move you in that direction, but thats just me :D

LD33 — You are the Monster

Body Snatcher by PotatoGrader 2015-08-27T14:29:00

Very nice idea!
UI seems a little cluttered though, its small and I basically didn't look at it once :(

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

LOW MEM by GagaPete 2015-12-14T09:41:00

Cool concept, loved the clean/simple graphics.
Probably my main concern is that the perspective sometimes made it a bit unclear as to what was going on with the blocks that get in your way (I dunno it just looked a little confusing/I had to look twice to check its state)

LD38 — A Small World

Saucy McMassive vs The Universe by saucygames 2017-05-01T07:07:55Z

I found it pretty hard (after 4-5 tries I haven't beaten the ice planet yet D:) but I really liked the planet art. I found the controls quite confusing though, and kept pressing the incorrect direction key and getting hit (which may well be part of why I found it so hard). Also there wasn't much variation to keep it interesting, the ice planet has quite a bit of health so it takes a while to destroy but there isn't anything that changes over that time to mix it up at all (power ups/super asteroids, different sorts of attacks from the enemy planet, getting faster, etc).

Little T by Tiago Ferreira 2017-05-01T07:56:22Z

Really nice music. There wasn't any victory screen to indicate that you'd succeed in getting out. I suppose the lack of a loss-screen does that but it'd be nice to at least have something that tells you that you won.

The game is also not resolution-independent. I played at 1280x800 (windowed) and on later levels the outer orbits get cut off. Although to be fair I didn't spend much time looking at the planets, was almost always looking at the slider at the bottom..but maybe thats just because I'm not good enough to put any strategy into it. >_<

WRAP by lightblub 2017-05-01T07:17:06Z

I really enjoyed it, the wrapping mechanic was interestingly introduced/used. I liked the clean and simple art style and while I didn't notice it as a problem for me personally, I agree with @themonsterfromthedeep that it'd probably be worth at least investigating a less intrusive background colour.

The only thing I didn't ever figure out is what the difference between the purple/yellow platforms is...

Land Ahoy! by Unvestigate 2017-05-01T08:34:36Z

Cool idea, looks good and very fitting of the theme. As others have mentioned sound would have been nice, but I didn't get to adding sound to my entry either so I guess I can't complain :P

The main thing that bothered me is that you drag in the opposite direction when you want to launch, as if you're pulling back to launch the ship. Was there a particular reason for this? I would have found it more intuitive (and slightly easier to control) to drag in the direction of movement.

Planet Taxi by Marin0104 2017-05-01T07:46:06Z

Really fun game! The graphics and audio also fit together quite nicely (although the tire squealing got a bit tedious after a while).

Apart from the lack of direction help that others have mentioned, I thought that the collision was a bit of a problem. The most obvious is the bridge, which slows you down a lot for seemingly no (gameplay-related) reason and which I got stuck on more than once, and had to reverse down and try again with a bit of a run-up. I also go stuck on the corner of a building once, with no way to reset or drive off of it. I just had to wait until I lost. Ideally (for me, at least) if you ran into a wall at ~30 degrees, you'd just rotate and slide along it instead of getting stuck, although this is probably more complicated to implement than could fit into a jam (I have no idea).

Also the first time I started the game up, my car was seemingly stuck in the center of the planet because I just got a close-up view of the ground and couldn't move/do anything....worked the next time though so I'm not sure what happened there.

I really enjoyed playing it overall though :)

Keeplanet by HellSquirrel 2017-05-01T08:25:20Z

Cool idea and I really loved the art and music.

I couldn't ever get further than around year 1200 though because my attempts to balance the distribution of weight were pretty much entirely random/unguided. I tried to guess where more weight was needed based on what things where where but apparently I didn't do a very good job. Some form of indicator for how much weight is where or generally what the weight distribution looks like would be really useful (possibly the planet's mantle/core can shift off-centre towards where the most weight is, and then you're also kinda trying to keep it centred...or something like that).

Other than that, pretty cool, fits the theme, really pretty. Good overall!

Crustacean Frustration by nofxboy1234 2017-05-01T07:30:25Z

I'm also from Cape Town!

Initial impressions: I'd really prefer if you didn't force me into fullscreen mode right at the start, I opened the game and controls.txt at the same time. :( Also I found it quite hard to find what I want in controls.txt, I'd group it by control set (so have the WASD/arrow keys all together). Also the controls item in the menu doesn't appear to work for me. The game doesn't fully pause when I press pause (projectiles keep moving), not a problem at all, just something I noticed :).

The game was really frustrating...until I discovered I could double jump :D (it wasn't immediately obvious and doesn't say anywhere that this is possible). I really liked the music and the character art, pity the chest didn't get it's own just-as-pretty-as-everything-else-art. I liked the camera work, didn't notice it at first but it does a good job of showing me what i need/want to see.

In Defense of a Dragon by d3zmodos 2017-05-02T06:00:39Z

Thanks for all the feedback everybody, I'm glad you liked it :D

I realise the balance is a bit off and I probably should have dedicated a little more time to that, but as with the sound and the collision-checking: Time :(

Another thing I was vaguely hoping to do is generate a curve that isn't quite so dense. The dragon curve ends up with quite large regions of just dense grid, which isn't very interesting for a tower defense game. However coming up with one of these on my own (at least without giving up the 90 degree corners which make things much easier to draw/work with) seemed like something I would definitely not be able to do in time and I couldn't find any nice ones online.

@MathijsVissers @Ratbag Do you mean the towers that you had already placed didn't shrink each round? The towers that have already been placed are meant to shrink each round (or rather, visually so, they stay the same size but the camera moves away), while the tower(s) that you place each round stay the same size (again, at least visually/on screen).
