LD23 — Tiny World

Epic space defence by caseymac 2012-04-26T02:43:00

Sorry to hear you had such a rough weekend. Like umwgmc said, despite there not being much to do I still played it for longer than I expected. The fusing of tower defense and platformer would have been really cool!

My Kid Dropped The Planet by MadGnomeGamer 2012-05-13T18:32:00

That was a really fun game! I loved the choice of being good or evil when playing each level. My only complaint is that, when the next child is past the screen's site, you can't move the camera around. The concept is great though, and this is a game I'd keep around to play. :)

The Tourist by FunkyDelPueblo 2012-04-23T18:05:00

Great little game! The beginning is a tad slow, simply because your strength requires a few seconds of "pushing" to be effective. I love the new idea of breaking the world apart around you in order to push things. It makes me feel like I'm never "stuck". I couldn't quite understand the goal of the game, but I had fun playing anyways.

Spitoon by Sestren 2012-04-24T03:45:00

Cute game! I like the idea of spitting to shrink. It adds a whole new level of creativity on how to solve these puzzles.

The Two of Us by scoopsy 2012-04-28T21:45:00

Can't play it either. If it were Linux, Windows, or even Mobile I'd give it a shot.

Alien Archaeologist by jplur 2012-04-24T03:47:00

andNice graphics! The game was enjoyable, and the idea feels fresh.

Lighthouse by gritfish 2012-04-25T04:40:00

What an amazing concept! It took me a few minutes to understand what I was doing, although that's partially due to the fact I didn't completely read the instructions. It'd be cool if the rotations were hotmapped to keys so that i didnt have to use a mouse. Great game though!

9Lives by TheGamingProject 2012-04-24T04:20:00

Definitely full marks for visuals. It looks amazing, albeit small. My biggest gripe was that the webpage you hosted it on didn't have scrollbars. So when I first played, I couldn't tell that there were instructions until I Ctrl- the entire page. The rest was fun though. Very cute!

Petri by Tomalla 2012-04-28T22:26:00

Hehe, I love the end, blobby fate. It was a fun game and the mouse control was interesting with the easing on mouse click being different. Nice and fun little levels, though the lack of specified controls almost had me restarting the game to restart a level after death, then I saw you listed the controls in the text. Very cool!

Flea Circus by robbiehunt 2012-04-23T23:04:00

I absolutely love this! Doing tricks and timing them was fun, and getting rated was a nice bonus. I thought the flea was a smidgen hard to see since it was black against a dark red background. But it was lots of fun, great job! :)

Sun Bringers by ChronoDK 2012-04-26T18:41:00

I got through to the first two levels, but the third one (with the third flask) confused me. But I love the idea, I think this game has such great potential. The art was nice, the music was PERFECT, and it's a smart game. Great job!

Tiny Shipping by Martin Vilcans 2012-04-25T08:51:00

Having labels on the ports would have been nice, and some of the ships move unbearably slow. When i was the second ship on the list,t it was painful to play because it moved so slow.

Cylcubere Origins by Birchmountain 2012-05-13T18:47:00

Very cool game! It's different, and I've never played anything like it before. The voice was funny, but it also creeped me out a lot of the time. I keep losing on the mouse challenge, but I just attributed it to being difficult to really win. Great job!

Boxed in. by PIXEL^3 2012-04-28T22:20:00

Wow! That was an awesome game! Fun level mechanics, solid controls, and good level design. I felt like I learned the different mechanics at a good pace and then applied them and combined them in really fun ways. Great job, seriously.

Pow! Pow! Pow! by Cake&Code 2012-04-23T18:17:00

Thanks everyone! We really appreciate the comments and critiques. You can blame any level-based difficulty on Cake. :)

For our post-mortem we'll probably add in easy levels at the beginning so people can ease into the gameplay, and we'll tweak the controls for better results as well.

Keep 'em coming!

Empty by Tim Bumpus 2012-04-29T00:12:00

Wow that was really hard! I pushed some tiles around for a while, I think that's the point right? In the end I couldn't do anything more and the buggy collisions were getting me nowhere. I finally looked here to find it is unbeatable!! xD

Interesting concept and I like the teensy window.

Deconstructorium by Deconstructeam 2012-04-23T22:19:00

I don't know if it was just me, but it felt like the game was extremely difficult and that I couldn't get anywhere. Everytime I went into an object, I would just be in a stuck environment where my options are to run into a wall or fall off.

That being said I really liked the art style for it and the concept seemed really well thought out. It's probably one of the more original games I've seen on LD this round.

Baby Farm by MrEvilGuy 2012-04-28T21:59:00

I don't even know what to say to that. Strategy game behind the guise of Baby Farm... it was certainly interesting to see the different things I could lay down in stage one evolve into new things as time progressed. The audio was funny at first, but hearing that same baby cry so many times tried my patience... just like a real baby! Fun entry! :D

Tiny Tiny Ants by gamesmith 2012-04-25T08:47:00

No controls seem to work, and there doesn't seem to be any great work to progress.

Hungry Ants by Dew 2012-04-29T00:55:00

Surprisingly really fun! Interesting take on the limited supplies idea, makes me really want to build the best ant farm ever!

I did manage to crash the game, semi-accidentally. When placing tunnels you can actually click on very edges of the right or bottom of the screen and it will place a tunnel outside the visible playing field (though you'll see the inner sprite change to suggest it goes on). When an ant walks in that outside world area the game freezes with a "Cannot read property 'build' of undefined" error. Actually, having the mouse outside the playing field with any object selected through errors constant in the console, these just happen to be silent errors and don't crash the game.

Anyways, it was really fun and an awesome idea with pretty great art! Nicely done! :)

Nano Strike by Qaterknan 2012-04-24T03:16:00

I didn't understand what I was supposed to do, to be honest. I got a few actions and stuff going, but nothing that actually resulted in real progress. It was kind of cool watching my cell mutate though.

Tinysasters by Volute 2012-04-25T05:23:00

LOVE IT. I can't even begin to describe the gushiness I felt while playing. It was so addictive trying to balance my resources and deal with all of the natural disasters that ensued. I do wish you could click on the names of the disasters and see what happens, just so you can plan accordingly. The graphics were great, the sound was nice, and it fit the theme perfectly. Awesome job!

Unusable Man and the Orbs of Exponential Growth by samwoakley 2012-04-24T22:52:00

It was easy to play and get into. I liked the pacing, and the concept was fun. My only beef was that it was dizzying.

Grow! by Rabbits... 2012-04-27T22:38:00

My only beef with the game was that moving with the mouse was a little blotchy and unresponsive for me. I'd shift my character to a position and it took a little bit of time to get there. Otherwise very interesting game. I didn't realize you could move with the mouse until half a minute into the game.

Trapped Genie by BubuIIC 2012-04-28T23:15:00

I love the console with the debug line prints in the background, reminds me of all the debug I did when testing our game xD

Fun little game, doesn't seem to have any bugs and it runs smoothly. I wish the hit area was more intuitive as I was trying to walk by some enemies when I would hit them on accident. Also, shooting with enter doesn't seem to affect the enemies? I hope you finish this one off!

Tiny God : Small Diety, Big Pantheon by Lacutis 2012-04-28T23:10:00

At first I was wondering if it would just be putting cows and grass down all day (darn those diagonal grass consuming cows!) but when I got humans it became a more interesting to see them fight over eating the cows. The first wave of zombies was good, but came a bit too late in the scheme of things, I was already growing weary of the grass/cow/man dynamic and it wasn't enough to keep my interest after I defeated them. Interesting little game you've made!

Phobius by deejorg 2012-04-24T04:31:00

Absolutely loved this game! The way you worked the transformation added a really fun twist to the puzzles. I also love his melting animation.

Singularity by Todd Luke 2012-04-28T23:37:00

At first I thought I had 0 health because it was just a string of 'o's but after getting hit a few times it became clear those were circles indicating hits you can take! Maybe they could look more like lives.

In any case, it was a fun game about securing tenure. Gameplay was solid if a bit repetitive, and the enemies had some interesting variation! Risking the absorption of energy and the possibility of merely bringing them closer to you when they recovered was a really cool mechanic. Nicely done!

The Traveler by Thotor 2012-04-22T23:22:00

It looks great! I played through the entire thing (w/o the secret level unfortunately). I liked the art for some of the levels (especially the windmill one) and I think the concept of shaking the globe to drop the blocks is neat. Great great work!

Bioclash by gammabeam 2012-04-24T04:05:00

I really enjoyed the art style for this game. It's slick and clean, and it looks really nice. The game was fun too, and the great design helped with that too. :)

Maru by RandomOutput 2012-04-26T01:18:00

I really liked this game! The wind added in such a nice uncontrollable element and I think it's really fun to play as well. I also love the graphics and the art direction is pretty good. (Although as a nitpick, I dislike that font. It's really a nitpick, i didn't consider it in my rating at all. #designernerd) Thanks for the great game! :)

ACTION SCIENCE DOG by bburbank 2012-04-25T05:30:00

It was prety enjoyable. The graphics in the scientist's room is nice, and the sound is great too. The warping part with the cheese was funny but soon got really tiring for me. (I think it was the flashing lights.) Overall, it's a pretty neat game.

Cocoloco by roydon 2012-04-23T22:14:00

Definitely a cute game. I love the idea behind it, and it seems like something that could keep two people occupied for a little whiles.

Polarity by nornagon 2012-04-23T23:33:00

Super fun! I've been playing this since the early builds and the improvements are great. It's got a good level of difficulty with addictive and simple mechanics. I don't immediately see the connection with the theme other than they're small magnets, but that doesn't really detract from the fun factor. :)

World Panic! by pinkmonkeyhead 2012-04-28T23:25:00

I love Bullet Hell games more than most, so let me start by saying: AMAZING JOB! It was fun, it was hard, it was rewarding, and it felt good. One of the better games I've played so far! Besides the possibility of being harder to play in a browser because the mouse can go outside the canvas (play the SWF itself in fullscreen to avoid this) it is really polished and ready to go. Again, amazing!!! :D

Greed Wars by IgnatusZuk 2012-04-26T02:29:00

Top marks! This game is fun to play, knows what it's doing and does it right, and makes me feel like I'm learning from my losses. Brilliant game and well-executed.

pixTown by Mysterarts 2012-04-25T05:10:00

Absolutely loved it! I had a lot of fun figuring out the puzzle of what colors to do in what order and doing it quickly so that my score won't go down. The audio is great, subtle and muted but still there. Graphics are nice, and the colors are lovely. I really enjoyed this! If you went further, I would love to see the pixel charts I make get pieced together (after different rounds) to make a larger image on the computer screen. :) Great job on your first LD!!!

Tiny World Racer by Kinokochan 2012-04-29T01:00:00

Brought me back to the N64 Mario Kart days when I lunged off the track and tries to stick the landing some point ahead, bypassing most of the track in the process! It was great fun doing that. Don't know if that's a bug or a feature but it's awesome.

I hope I can find another player to try this out with in actual race mode soon!

TinyNuke by nixeldev 2012-04-27T22:19:00

I had a lot of fun playing this! I love how you only get glimpses of the map so you pay special close attention to the map. And seriously, your sound effects are hilarious. SWOOSH!

Tiny Dream by Kendja 2012-04-23T20:01:00

Really beautiful looking. I love the artwork, it really adds atmosphere to your game. The inverted landscape gives me a headache sometimes, but it wasn't impossible to figure out. Great work!

Download Incomplete by trq 2012-04-24T03:29:00

Great game! The jetpack wasn't unbearable for me, I was able to control it fine. However I thought the transition between death and checkpoint appearances was a bit jarring and sudden.

Rob this tiny world! by neocrey 2012-04-26T06:46:00

I had a lot of fun with this! The adrenaline really got me pumping as the levels went on and the police got faster and smarter. While it lacked variety and polish, I think this game has potential to be wickedly addicting.

Microscopia by azurenimbus 2012-05-13T08:28:00

It was a new and creative game. It started off simple but quickly grew to be a difficult game. Some of the stages could easily be solved by erratically moving your germ around, but it grew hard really fast and was pretty enjoyable.

Before The Big Bang by ragnister 2012-05-13T18:40:00

It was interesting to play. I had to refer back to the description for rules. Maybe it would help to start with an easy tutorial level for us to figure out and get into.

Claustrophobia by emongev 2012-04-26T02:15:00

Despite the slow character movements it was actually interesting enough to get me the whole way through the game. I wish there was more to the narrative but given the time constraint it's understandable. I hope this gets fleshed out more! :D

This game is pretty NEET! by Sonictail 2012-04-23T23:36:00

I don't really understand what I'm doing. The most I was able to actually do was sleep, and when he seemed hungry and bored, I couldn't actually do anything to deal with it. :(

microchip by DiscoFish 2012-04-26T04:17:00

Seriously cool game. I loved the idea of jumping and creating blocks, and eating the bad blocks. The mood was great as well, although all of the graphic blips and jumps actually made me freak a little and worry that my computer was dead. (The fullscreen thing was cool too. :D) I liked the music for the most part, but it got annoying sometimes, and I really disliked how Z was jump. My fingers kept automatically pressing on my up arrow to try to jump. Habits, I suppose.

Lost in space by Keirua 2012-04-24T19:23:00

I didn't see a goal at hand, since there seemed to be no crew to rescue. The game also got buggy when I "ran" into a tree. It started twitching a lot. But the Game Over screen and the sad face sprites are hilarious.

Tiny Pig Run by boxerbomb 2012-04-29T01:57:00

Congrats on your first Ludum Dare!!

Avoiding pigs is the name of the game and I guess I should have expected the game to be exactly that. The first time I launched the game I died almost instantly since there was no menu screen or prompt to start the game, always include something like this.

The second time I started running immediately and managed to last pretty much as long as I wanted, I ran in a circle and all the pigs chase the same way so even though more were introduced they all eventually combined into one super-pig chasing me.

The collision on the tree, as mentioned before, needs fixing. You also should probably add hit areas to the pigs/player since it seems like only a very small bit will actually register a collision and this makes pigs really easy to avoid.

I know the idea of making the pig movement different than just "home in on player" might seem unintuitive, but adding a bit more complexity to the paths will make the game a million times more difficult and by the same token make it more fun to play.

The last bit of advice I'd like to give is to add a current score indication to the game screen. Giving a player a knowable incentive to keep playing, like a score meter, will make them want to keep going. As it is they are just running for seemingly no reason and only when they lose do they find out that they receive a score, and even then it's not tied to any particular action. They just have to assume, like I did, that it's tied to duration of life.

I hope these comments help! Good luck to you :D

Tiny Journey by Evil Sandwich Studios 2012-04-30T16:43:00

Really great game! The mood was set really well, and I love the type of games where you interact with the environment like that. The art was also really great, great job on this!

Nan-o by Mrnewt 2012-04-26T02:58:00

I wish there was more control, like maybe the ships would target the enemy that you click on or that you hover over. The timing feels like waiting since the faster ships just can't seem to win over the strength of the slower stronger ships.

The mechanic has potential, but it needs work.

Agorobophobia by BrothersT 2012-04-25T09:32:00

Despite the collisions with walls and the darkness freaking the game out, the removing of whole sections of the level was a really cool mechanic. Hope to see it fleshed out and more playable! Also, love the art direction, makes the whole thing seem ominous and intriguing.

Tiny Worlds by Lidfrid 2012-04-23T12:40:00

Your humming music is so neat! And I thought the game was fairly addictive. It was definitely a bit rough for me to get the hang of how to be effective at it, but the mechanics were easy to understand.

Gnome Purseuit by restlessturnip 2012-04-23T09:15:00

It looks really nice, I really enjoy the fact that the screen is framed in a purse. My only gripe is that playing with WASD and having to click on the mouse is difficult. I'm playing on a laptop without a mouse so the usability is a bit rough for me.

SlimeABug by schattenkind.net 2012-04-29T00:18:00

That was pretty hard, but the absorbing of new forms when in slime form was really cool. I found the movement to be a bit awkward as the character did the odd rotation in place to go in a new direction instead of facing it immediately or more quickly, made it harder to aim attacks I thought.

Quirky little game, nicely done! :)

Stampede at the Crooked Thorax Ranch by mimshwright 2012-04-23T20:52:00

That glass effect is smart, and a really great play on the theme. I had fun playing, and I loved the little screams the ants had when they died.

Hero of Rain by the31 2012-04-23T18:44:00

It was exceptionally fun! Neat art style, it's very abstract and minimal. Hope you finish!

Nook by PoV 2012-04-24T03:25:00

Really cute and befitting graphics. It was pretty laggy on my laptop (on Chrome) but it wasn't unbearable. The sound effects were great, the game design was great, and I loved the character you went with. Jumping was a little strange, but maybe I'm just not used to the occasional random wall-hugging. Great job PoV!

doggone by hazzen 2012-04-25T05:00:00

I really enjoyed the ambient background music. It really set the sad mood for the game. I didn't understand the story until I read your description, it made sense though and it was quite touching. The hit box for the frisbee was a bit big, and the sound effect for that was a bit jarring. Great job!

Pro Stew Chugger by Tourgen 2012-04-29T00:01:00

Going through the doors at random until getting to a new room felt a bit tiring, and fighting the enemies could feel tough when against the left wall all the bullets hit the actual wall and didn't fire.

Kept my attention long enough to make me realize the stews did different things and acted like powerups. That was pretty awesome! :D

terminus by zillix 2012-04-25T04:56:00

omg this game was wildly compelling. it took me a few seconds to fully grasp what was going to happen, and then...it hit me. and boy did it hit me. I loved this game, I gave it high marks just for how it drew me in and how mysterious it was. The mood and atmosphere was great.

Biodome by 7Soul 2012-04-25T09:13:00

I really loved playing through this! It took me a second to figure out that the signs meant keys since 'w' wasn't listed and I could jump with it. Once that was out of the way I got down to the puzzle solving and it was fun despite the slow pacing. I wish the first character moved a little faster but that's personal preference.

Nice job!

Tiny girl by Fenyx 2012-04-29T01:33:00

A fun little game, the mechanic to switch directions is definitely something you don't see enough of in games like this! Really nicely done with that idea.

That flower was one tough cookie but I had fun fighting it and the bombs really helped out in a pinch. Felt balanced and extremely responsive so well done! :)

Hamster Bowling by tfendall 2012-04-25T17:30:00

Haha, what an adorable game. I love the style you chose to make this game in. It's very much unlike most other games, and the opening little cinematic is a great touch. (Did you guys make that yourself? In the hamster cage??) Music was good, and the sound effects were nice. The drying part was a departure from what I was expecting, but the originality of this game made me enjoy it a lot.

ANT SURF HERO: THE SURFENING by JigxorAndy 2012-04-24T04:42:00

I hate ants. I hate them on most days. But this game really brought out a sense of camaraderie between me and my ant. Like Gandalf and Shadowfax. Or Calvin and Hobbes.

Back to the real point, it was VERY fun! I actually felt stress while playing, but the good kind where you just perform better because of it. Great job!

Quest^3 by angryshroom 2012-04-28T23:53:00

I died so many times... so... many... times... it was awesome! :D

Love the cubic world that gets rotated depending on how you move, very clever mechanic. I wish the combat wasn't random, but that being said you implemented the system very well with the favoring of wins depending on loot. I only wish it was a bit easier to win these battles.

Wunderworld by ratking 2012-05-13T18:20:00

Some of the sound effects were a bit irking, but I like the level editor and how you can just jump in and play or jump out of it at any time. I had a good time fiddling with different environments. :)

Tiny Quest by Kvisle 2012-04-29T01:30:00

Jumping was a bit hard since there's no acceleration and gravity kicks in as soon as you release the jump button.

I managed to beat the game but the last part with the magical looking toad was by far the most fun because it had the most gameplay and not just finding a key, opening a door, walking some more. It posed a challenge of death and a goal of winning.

I hope you expand on it!

My Little Planetoid by matthias_zarzecki 2012-04-26T06:39:00

I didn't have nearly as many issues with the camera as most did. I thought it was pretty straightforward, and I got as far as a space station. (But dammit I closed the window right before Moon Base! Fool of a Took!) I rather liked the gentle guitar strumming, I felt like it really added a nice melancholic spacey atmosphere to your game. My only gripe is that there isn't a sort of feedback system for the buttons. When I clicked on farm and move away, I wasn't entirely sure if I had clicked it or not, so I ended up going back and clicking again to make sure. It's nothing big, nor is it anything I rated you against. Just a musing!

Mr Cool by Rialgar 2012-04-28T22:30:00

If you add a bit of vertical acceleration, as in you don't start falling due to gravity the minute you stop jumping, it would be a lot more intuitive to play. As is, you've got some interesting levels and a cool visual aesthetic going!

Stellar Nurse by Bleck 2012-04-24T03:40:00

One of the more fun games in this competition, IMO. I love it, it pulls at the OCD person inside of me to always get matching blocks, and then flip tables when ONE mismatching one gets in there. The music is also really fitting of the mood and game.

Tiny Sword by dev_redant 2012-04-25T17:45:00

One of my biggest gripes was going off the edge in some sectors didn't transition the map because there wasn't anything there to load. Rather than letting your character go off the sides, it'd be much more helpful if we just ran into an invisible wall there. The art on the blocks are pretty funny though, especially on the red guy there.

Stomp-A-Thump by OnionBlaze 2012-04-26T03:36:00

I had a lot of fun playing this, actually. It's one of those games where you can mindlessly play it and it's still really enjoyable. I like the graphics, and the idea of stomping strategically (don't stomp the ones near the forest!) is a nice touch. I dislike the sound effects to be honest, I can tell you used bfxr (it sounds like the sfx I tried to make for my own game hehehe). I don't know where, but maybe consider a different means of production?

One Small Planet's Trouble by mastazavr 2012-04-26T18:19:00

I thought it was an alright game. I do wish it wasn't a 1-hit type of death, since during the first level or so I didn't have anything to defend myself with. (Other than hopping and running away.) The death noise was jarring for me, but the jump noise was hardly obnoxious and well placed.

Triskelion by 23 2012-04-27T02:19:00

Heh, what a fun little game. It took a bit of getting used to to figure out the overworld vs bomberman-esque worlds. The music was really fitting and it was fun to try and defeat worlds just to read the popups. Good job.

Most of us live in a tiny world by jeffz 2012-04-29T02:01:00

A linear narrative about the isolationism and futility of human action... it could be quite a powerful idea but I think the realization of it falls short.

I know you were working with limited time and I know how much can get cut when the deadline approaches but I think that making it a single-button and totally linear experience undercuts the meaning of the game. Giving the user more actions to perform and having them all do more or less the same thing would have been more powerful because then you're saying that even with all the things you can do, it all boils down to doing the same meaningless and lonely thing.

At least, that's my take on it. I hope you can find the time to polish the idea :)

Colossal Creature crushes Tiny Town by cjke.7777 2012-04-29T02:24:00

Smashing people with floating fists? Always fun!
After 6 waves of playing and the introduction of planes I got bored, I wish there were enemies that took more hits or something because after a bit of playing I realized I could just do a fist sweep after they were on the ground and wipe out everyone.

The visual style is gorgeous and it really feels like an old King Kong movie. The music was fitting and not overpowering and the sounds of fists hitting the floor were gratifying as ever.

Well done.

Primordial Smackdown: Bacteria with Badditude by Vilborg 2012-04-28T22:06:00

What a fun little game! It was hard to get the bite to hit sometimes but it was rewarding whenever you finished an enemy off! Maybe some indication of their fatigue or health level would be good as it seemed I always attacked the full health enemies xD

(Tiny) Worlds of Illusion by madmaw 2012-04-27T02:12:00

Very much of a mindtrip, but my eyes got a little sore from playing. I gave it high marks for creativity though!

Exposed by 01101101 2012-04-26T19:15:00

Totally neat! The graphics are wonderful, the audio is perfect and really really well done (it's very "Download the OST for this Game!"). It's really short, and I found it strange that it kept recording my number of actions even though I technically finished the creation. (I got the hair and trunk one in 10 actions, yet when I was trying to find more things to do it kept saying I did it in (23 actions). I've yet to try the enhanced version, but I'll consider it! The ability to choose is a nice touch. :D Great job!

Peppyland by spooks 2012-04-27T02:56:00

That was cute, if a bit short. The wise man's humor was probably my favourite part. The platforming was solid and the jumping worked but the upwards moving platforms felt a bit off since they dragged the character instead of accelerating him.

Overall it was fun though! The time statistic was unexpected but good.

LittlePlanetBigRocket by daredevildave 2012-04-26T02:38:00

The difficulty sure went from zero to one hundred quickly! Nevertheless, it was pretty fun to see such a cool game built in PlayCanvas. If only those red guys were easier to avoid! xD

Wander by Dramble 2012-04-27T02:16:00

Haha, very funny. I actually thought it was smart and witty, although I didn't get much "play" out of it. But it's very smart!

Tiny Adventures In SPACE by Jacic 2012-04-23T22:43:00

Cute game. It felt like it started off a litte slow, but I loved seeing all of the food-stuff you added into the game. Especially the pop tarts. :)

Gods Inc. by BlackDogg 2012-04-23T22:25:00

It's a neat concept, and I love the way you decided to present the levels and the artwork. I thought it was a little repetitive after the 4th world, and making the connections was a teensy bit clunky for me. But it looks great and it fits the concept very well.

Astro Break by hulahulahest 2012-04-24T19:14:00

Absolutely great! It was all really fun and harkens back to classic arcade games. Great work! :D

I want to turn the heater on by Andrew 2012-04-24T00:21:00

I think there could have been more cues here and there to help lead players on. I didn't have any problem with it though, and had a lot of fun up until I moved the swords and (maybe?) chopped that guy's head off. The controls bother me a bit, when I want to grab something and it automatically swaps objects that I pass through.

Great work! Nice idea and concept.

Ant Slayer by Kharza 2012-04-28T22:35:00

I wish the jump happened on keypress and not keyrelease but overall it was pretty fun! Killing ants sure got a whole lot tougher! How do I report my win to Lord British? xD

ONLY DUST by kato9 2012-04-26T20:16:00

I loved the art direction for this game. As the more art-oriented half of my team, I thought this had an amazing atmosphere and the pop or orange against the dull setting was perfect. My only beef was that it's hard to tell where you can and can't go. A visual indicator would be great for that. Jet pack didn't work past the first room too. Great sounds though!

Nom Nom Planet by Arkazon 2012-04-29T00:27:00

Jumping from planet to planet at some moments felt disadvantageous and I was wonder why I would ever move from my perfect sniping spot... then the first weapon appeared and I jumped ship to snag it.

Awesome mechanic and good incentive to keep the player moving!! Nicely done. I'd love to see you keep going with this! :)

TinyBot by murilo 2012-04-29T00:23:00

Seeing the plants waft around was pretty cool, I appreciated touches like that. The more obvious giant people in the back were also really nice.

Platforming was good but the part with the rocks got a tad unfair in my game since one boulder got stuck on the ledge I was supposed to wait on, so I had to just get hit by it to remove it before waiting for a good moment to cross. Luckily I had full health so I could take the hit and not die.

Nice little game! Hope you get time to polish it!

Little Locations by Nolan C 2012-04-29T02:19:00

I don't see how this ties into Tiny World thematically and also really got tired of starting each world off from the beginning, I think Fireblend's comment about starting from a checkpoint of some sort would be a really good feature. I realize that the coins can be skipped and gotten in a different order so you'd have to find a way to make checkpoint optional or explicit/avoidable.

The jumping sound really got annoying after jumping so many times but I think with a bit of volume-lowering and some background music it would be alright.

The idea of falling off of one world and into another was really cool and I think it's darned innovative. Well done with that. The controls and feel are also really nice so it feel like a solid platformer.

The only other thing I would suggest would be some kind of indicator of position when the character is off the screen vertically as it is a bit difficult to intuit the falling location after a jump way up there. But that's a gameplay decision and I eventually did get used to not seeing my character's position.

Hope you can find some time to polish this gem up! :D

Super Fun Crushy Time! by Darkfrost 2012-04-24T03:34:00

The camera made me a little motion sick. The concept is cool though, kind of reminds me of Katamari Damacy. Except you're eating everything.

caveman defending his cave from aliens while monoliths drop down from the sky by bms 2012-04-26T03:09:00

I really loved the idea for this game! It is absolutely wonderful when the game forces me to make the trade off for a potentially worse weapon to get a monolith and increase my score.

Also, I thought the wand as you pointed out (with magic!) was a roman candle xD

Nano Commander by SmallDeadGuy 2012-05-13T18:53:00

An RTS? Nicely done! It was fun to play and definitely not too easy nor too hard. The graphics were really fitting and the only thing I'd like to see would be differentiated bullets for friendly vs enemy. Awesome :D

Zephyr by cadin 2012-04-23T00:04:00

Love it! It looks great, is well designed, and the game is challenging but simple to pick up. Great work!

Massive Attract by Peter Cooper 2012-05-13T19:01:00

Fun little game you've got here! Seems a bit too random as the first time I won in 15 seconds with some good asteroids popping out really quickly and the second time was closer to 50 seconds because the asteroids were so scattered. Nice game engine! :)

The Green Planet by Munch 2012-04-25T08:54:00

I couldnt figure out how to direct the asteroids to another direction. The kept hitting jupiter and I was getting a little frustrated. Great art though!

Rocket Boat by RHY3756547 2012-04-29T03:36:00

Really neat game! Firstly I have to say I love the visuals. They're fun, bright, and really well detailed. The controls were a little slippery in the sense that moving left or right REALLY moved me left or right. (Then again, they ARE boats....) Great job!

Tinyville Confidential by Rose 2012-04-24T03:58:00

I love these type of logic games, where you try to please everyone and figure out what arrangement works best. I do think the night phases were a tad longer. It took me a bit to recognize who was who and who they liked and didn't like. By the time I figured it out, it was already daytime and life went on. Still, the graphics are cute and it was totally my type of game.

Rush Hour by Cryptoporticus 2012-04-29T02:27:00

Flying around is really hard! I almost always ran out of fuel or died trying to get some. That's not to say it's a bad thing it's so hard, I just wish I'd gotten to go higher and see if there was more variety to the skyworld xD

Visually it's well done and the controls feel solid. I love when the helicopter thing crashes and the pieces go flying out and hit more obstacles and then explode. Every game needs a good set of explosions.

Wrapping the screen was an interesting choice, and it made some things easier and others harder. In any case, nice game! :)

Our Small World by TellusE 2012-04-24T23:14:00

I was initially pretty into it, but as the game went on I started losing the ability to perform actions and there was no real explanation as to why or how I could change that. Also one note, the pop-up HUD that shows up when you click on those squares is positioned behind other squares. So when I wanted to interact with farmland, the HUD was behind the castle so I couldn't read it. Just letting you know! :)

Spaceship Planet Merge by codeapparat 2012-05-13T18:43:00

Hehe, it's a fun little game with very interesting mechanics! It was a lot fun to blow yourself into space and landing on little planetoids was exciting, though usually counter productive :)

Link by Dax 2012-04-28T22:55:00

Amazing job! I love these kinds of connect the endpoint games and even though the level design sometimes revealed the solutions to the puzzles (add more empty space for the player to try and take advantage of) it was still really fun! Great job on this!

The Underground Court by caranha 2012-05-13T18:38:00

The controls are a little difficult to use, and it's quite the challenging game to avoid starvation, avoid the cats, and get food at the same time. The cat sound effects made me chuckle and the art was cute.

Frustrating Tiny Rooms by PapyPilgrim 2012-04-23T17:55:00

Really clever game! It was fun to play, and I got a good 4-5 levels in. Simple mechanics, made me think a bit and was challenging. I do agree that it's not well-fitted with the theme, but it was a good play through.

KittenWorld by brodavi 2012-04-23T22:05:00

The game was incredibly hard to play for me. I admittedly have the tl;dr syndrome where all of the instructions just looks like a block of text to me. I didn't completely understand the game and what I was supposed to do. The illustrations of the kittens gave me a good chuckle though.

Tiny World - A Giants Tale by DalsGames 2012-04-29T00:07:00

The first time I splattered a tiny person I felt terrible! Didn't mean to! Sorry little buddy! xD

The collisions and controls don't handle as well as I'd hoped but it was definitely playable. Even beat that darned castle with the rock flinging! (The character still had the rock in their hands while the rock was flung until it hit the floor though)

Fun little game. Hope you polish it and finish it off!

Tiny's World by tacograveyard 2012-04-26T20:20:00

Tiny Tim!!!! This is adorable. The controls were buggy for me, and it lagged A LOT in random intervals. (Using Chrome on Mac OS) I really liked Tiny Tim, so the music was so cute and the theme of the game fit it PERFECTLY. Very original game, I liked it a lot.

Kupow by DSidhion 2012-04-23T20:56:00

Neat game, and the ability to move the blocks around was cool. I thought moving them around was a little iffy on my mouse. IDK if it was the game or just my mac mouse, but i had to click and drag a few times to get it to where I wanted the platforms. Overall neat idea.

Crimson Booties by Waynetron 2012-04-29T10:26:00

I was really intrigued by the dialog. I wanted more of it and was interested in hearing what each person had to say about the others. I was bummed when it got cut to the title screen, but I imagine it's hard to write a fully fleshed dialog-driven game in 48 hours.

Sprace by Niavlys 2012-04-28T23:00:00

Could have been more fun but the idea and core mechanics are there! I wish there were power-ups or different kinds of enemies to keep the gameplay interesting or, as you suggested, a menu that display distance gone and such when you lose. Hope you finish it up!

Panopticon by kakuremino 2012-04-29T02:07:00

What an intense mood! The visuals, the music, and the interactions all made it feel so... so dark and brooding. The only other game that made me feel this way was Clock Tower for the SNES wayyy back in the day. I am thoroughly creeped out.

Amazing creation you've got here. Simple mechanics and the eerie quality blend together to make for a great experience. The pen-drawn screens were fantastic.

I only wish I could move diagonally sometimes. Besides that, well done, very cool game.

The Lost Isles by Nilmrots 2012-04-29T01:49:00

I was hoping the meteors would come raining down during the platforming levels because they are a bit stagnant once you realize that switches will become the only level-beating mechanic.

It was fun and the ending was alright but the whole game needs some oomph. I also really wish the windows didn't resize all the time or that the dialogue boxes, like others mentioned, were part of the screen.

I hope you find the time to take this thing even further! There's a game here, you just need to polish it! :)

Pivotation by KingKay 2012-04-27T02:32:00

That was pretty awesome! I love the rotating world effect you created, it was a bit dizzying as you got closer to the center since the world rotated faster but it wasn't bad enough to keep me from playing. Getting the items to open the walls didn't really make too much sense since it happened instantly and sometimes I didn't immediately know what section had opened up (like that blue forcefield looking thing on the last level). Overall though, felt really good and looked just as awesome.

LD24 — Evolution

Living Tales by tinyworlds 2012-09-09T05:32:00

Haha, pretty funny game! It was a little strange to have to press Help in order to know any commands in the game, but it went well from there. Neat setup!

Soul Jar by farmergnome 2012-09-09T04:40:00

Momentum loss when jumping is frustrating at times, but the cute robot mechanics and the visuals are simply wonderful. Makes me wish I had my own little Johnny 5 running around.

p.s. Loved what you did with Under the Garden! We're followers of Under the Ocean too, hope to see it keep getting better! Cheers :)

Tower Evolution by DBRalir 2012-08-28T19:05:00

That was really cool! I too blundered through the game at first before realizing the upgrades were stacking when possible! Awesome idea and well executed too. The levels were different but it seems like my "brute-force" as many towers as possible approach worked for all of them (+continuous laser). Maybe some enemies that are immune to certain attack types would be a good addition. All in all, pretty darn fun!

Star's Requiem by davisan 2012-09-11T17:25:00

I had a different problem with the text (though the slow and unskippable-ness was tedious), as soon as it was done displaying it would go away in a second. Sometimes I wouldn't be able to read the last word or two before poof it was gone. Like when you first meet Liana and it says "It's Liana!" I missed it the first time because it was gone so quickly.

I also had trouble with the platforming controls what I found more hilarious was that I had thought the characters were wearing blue straight-jackets (like insane asylum patients) so I had a vastly different take on the story than most people.

Overall, fun but needs work :)

Crow Evolution by myachin 2012-09-13T01:12:00

Hmmm, seemed to lag a bit sometimes and the crows were indeed too easy to kill, especially as they never seemed to even try to attack?

The sounds also got a bit tedious, especially when firing into a murder of crows that just recently spawned.

Dawn of Dimension by jplur 2012-09-06T00:42:00

I have the common sentiment: Great idea, awesome level editing and tileset, poor physics and usability while playing.

This is so close to a home run you'd be crazy not to fix up the platforming physics and room switching!

You ARE the RAIN by alvivar 2012-08-28T05:05:00

Incredibly creepy game! (In a good way!) The art for it, the music, and the red tears does well in establishing that. I think if the game was generally darker it could make for the perfectly dark and creepy game. Also, I was at 0% HP for a little bit before I was officially recorded as dead. But it was fun! I enjoyed running around and crying blood on everything. :)

Ztoday by blundis 2012-08-28T19:27:00

I heard about the evolution of zombies when the popup text came, but I was too busy exploring the void. There was some of the darker green in a patch along the top of the level bounds and it let me escape the playing area and into the black of space. I let my character sit there and ponder whether it was worth the risk to go back. Then decided it was and was killed by a zombie as I fled ammoless into the void where it chased me xD

AvRvE by Cake&Code 2012-09-07T23:30:00

@infernet89 you don't have to beat every level to "beat" the game. :) There are different endings depending on what species you're able to kill off.

Sporee by tdsmale 2012-08-28T17:06:00

The particle body is really cool, but the game is too random because I had a really hard time controlling what my sporees were crashing into. That might just be me but it felt like the game played itself more than I did.

Ages of Irving by Deconstructeam 2012-08-29T16:21:00

That was... intense. I might've grown up watching The Terminator and Alien but this is grittier and more bleak. It has teeth and it forces you to react. Great job tackling the premise; it was really well executed!

Light Quest by Thinkofdeath 2012-08-29T17:54:00

You are not going to believe me, but I was prototyping a laser reflection engine as a side project and had to set it aside to do LD so when I saw this game I got so excited! I love the idea behind this! I just wish this was more engaging. I wish there were more levels and more objects to interact with but it was pretty fun as is.

As you point out, not much to do with the theme at this point but hey, it's a fun game :)

Doug Bones - Fossil Collector by wibblymat 2012-08-28T22:31:00

I too would like to know more about the original game. Also, this was quite hard during that zig zag path! Having the gun shoot through walls was also not as helpful as I thought it was going to be xD

Decade Dash by Rabbits... 2012-08-28T21:00:00

My purple-haired character was enjoying the romp through the open air until a combination of bird and cactus blocked the path quite thoroughly!~ Blood spurting from the scalp, I pressed them on, into the grasslands, and then into the forest! Then death swiftly came... while I had switched tabs on accident. Fun little game, needs a bit more variety though! :D

Tiny Evolution Adventure by AdventureIslands 2012-09-05T07:31:00

Your artwork is lovely! And I think the game has such great polish. I think the music really adds to the game, and the world is really well developed. I did find it annoying that I had to restart at every level, and that it was somewhat difficult to advance past the first level.

Mighty-chondria by JonathanG 2012-09-09T18:28:00

I also could not get the drag to work. Gameplay was fun, and being able to shoot the plasmids further away from me was hilariously frustrating xD

Also, like the look and feel. Its Deus Ex HUD meets Splice graphics meets Descent gameplay ;)

Blob's Gotta Eat by MrDanH 2012-08-29T05:18:00

Slowed down a bit when there were lots of enemies on the screen but it was really fun to play! Eating up those people was oddly satisfying, especially after being shot at by them :)

Boarding Party by sbfgamer 2012-09-10T17:54:00

Still waiting on a link, and it's already the 10th.

Hunt'em! by Zamando 2012-08-30T04:22:00

It was very pretty, but too hard! I barely got time to get revenge on those wolves when the death pack came for me. Still, nicely done :)

FOR THE darWIN by TravisChen 2012-09-09T21:08:00

Really awesome! A bit more explanation would have been nice, but after putting in the bird skulls backwards the first time I caught on pretty quick.

Really fun mechanics meet really solid controls. Great work! :)

A Nature Evolution by Igor Silva 2012-08-28T17:45:00

The progression was really cool and the changing controls kept the game interesting! The worm level was much slower paced as compared to the previous ones, but more than that it was just frustratingly slow to get the character moving, and having to start completely over made me give up there. Previous levels were fun and lasted just about the right amount of time. Possible bugs: On the first level, I don't think any obstacles can spawn low enough so that if you ride the bottom of the screen you will always win; on the snake level the edges of the screen have odd collision errors that can get you stuck for a bit.

Obsolete Upgrade by RARoadkill 2012-08-28T19:10:00

That was really silly and funny, but the platforming was surprisingly hard! I kept colliding with the platforms sideways and that let me do a little collision dance until I could wriggle my way on top xD

EvoRide by inakrinat 2012-09-09T20:58:00

What a wild ride! I got some pretty odd combinations xD

It'd be cool if there was visual feedback of the genebase you're amassing. Maybe a little creature in the top right of the screen that goes changing as you gather genes? I know that's a bit complex, but that the LD is over it'd be cool, eh? :)

Also, the ding sound is great once in a while, but having to hear it constantly got a bit annoying.

Badass by Sos 2012-08-28T01:30:00

Seriously hilarious. I love the sound effects and the blips of "F-ING HIPSTERS". I think this could be taken a little bit more over the top (lol) and had some more stereotypically hipster things pop up here and there. It was amazing though, great graphics and was a lot of fun.

Mystic Evolution Quest by garywiss6 2012-09-04T03:34:00

I agree with most of the other comments above. It had the right idea with the leveling but the controls/display/physics left a lot to be desired.

And Then There Was Pong by Zabot 2012-08-29T16:29:00

How clever! I love the concept of capturing the evolution of gaming itself in a game!! It could have been a bit more engaging since some of the games took too long to beat. Maybe have a countdown until the next evolution and the player tries to score as many points as possible per game? That way it's faster paced but the effort put in still matters. Overall, great job!

Pirates and Gorillas by Brucef 2012-08-30T01:10:00

Wow, that was fun! I have never played a corralling game before and I would never have thought of it myself. Great job! It sure does get too hard if you don't try and evolve them before there's too many but I guess that's something you learn by playing. Evolve and evolve often.

That being said, I only got a fraction of the score you've got going in that screenshot! (430)

Diverge by patrickgh3 2012-08-29T05:02:00

That was so amazing!!! I loved trying to figure out which combinations of the powers would get me where I needed to go, but seeing the corpses of the previous incarnations was a bit sad. Poor buggers, they did such good work! Overall an incredible game with fun replay value.

Also,
nyanyanyan :3

MatterSplatter by VAMflax 2012-08-29T06:09:00

9.9958874 seconds to inseminate the queen??? Whaaaaaat? xD

The first level was hard to beat until I figured out I could camp a spot just between the sphere and the attack spawn point. Really zany game!

Bug Hunter Evolved by Vircung 2012-08-28T17:51:00

From what I could do, it seems like when it says letter you mash the letter keys (A-Z), when it says digits you mash the numbers (0-9 not numpad?) and when it says specials... hit the other keys (shift, alt, ctrl?)? Seemed to work sometimes, not others. Also, for GUI displays with numbers, please round/floor/ceiling them before displaying (we don't need so many decimals places and it is less readable). Felt good to mash my keyboard for a bit.

Natural Selection - You vs the World by DigiTec 2012-08-28T18:28:00

A solid shooter! I love the addition of the red/blue polarity and the powerups were really cool and helpful! With a little more gameplay (more enemy types, upgrades) and some polish you could have Ikaruga 2 on your hands ;D

Yellow Dog by Barry Abrams 2012-08-28T18:03:00

Everyone seems to share my enthusiasm, it was really fun to take care of the puppy, then the dog, and then the old dog. I really freaked out when after giving my dog food and looking away for a second I came back thinking it was dead in a pool of blood, but it was just sleeping on top of the food bowl! xD

Additive by Desi Quintans 2012-09-03T22:13:00

That was pretty darn fun! To have created a puzzle game in such a limited amount of time is quite impressive. Kudos.

Young Earth Road Trip by saguaro 2012-09-04T03:54:00

That was pretty hilarious! Humor was top notch and the choices were great. Just wish you would've used a font other than the default Ren'Py one, I've seen that font a million times by now with all the Ren'Py visual novels ;)

Cuboid Sandbox by cominu 2012-09-09T20:48:00

Well... that was new. The minimaps it created were usually quite incredible. I loved piling food up in one area and then when it ran out all the blocks dispersed, beautiful streaks of color.

Disgruntled Paddles VERSUS Evolution by djtjj 2012-08-29T04:50:00

Pacing does need some work as QualityAssurance mentioned, it is too slow. It was fun for a while, but I quickly got tired of the mechanic. With some more features it might be more interesting, or maybe 2 players? That would be really intriguing with all these odd paddle configurations. It could be done in head to head or survival modes.

The Devil's Lie by Haette 2012-08-28T01:24:00

Smart game! I was hoping there'd be a funny creationist one. :) This one did its job in addressing that, although I didn't immediately pick up the controls. I think having access to arrow keys for movement would be nice. Fun game though!

The Window by Andy Go 2012-09-04T16:15:00

Hehe, that was good fun. It was tricky trying to balance the different links in the chain but the character actions seemed to refresh quickly enough to allow it. I survived the first meteors but they did wipe out about half of my human population, just had to regather my strength.

With some more features and some polish this could be an even more awesome game! :)

Collect the Goo! by CartoonJenn 2012-09-04T16:20:00

Woah, trying to walk backwards was a trip, felt like parallel parking xD

The game is too easy in that there really isn't any way to fail, there's no conflict. Obstacles/traps or enemies would really spice up the gameplay.

Adventurers Evolution by Thurig 2012-08-29T03:29:00

Hehe, finally got to floor 2 at generation 14! Of course, I was slaughtered by the second zombie there even with my 16 Hp and 15 Defense. I think this game could benefit so much from simply displaying the stats of the foe after a battle (whether win or lose) just so you can see what you had been fighting against. A full battle sequence would be a lot more work... but a lot more impressive!! Overall, pretty engaging despite the rather frustratingly slow movement xD

The Fromagist by ABPositive03 2012-09-04T01:53:00

That was so much fun! I've never played such a ridiculous text-adventure before and laughed quite so much. Sorry humans, I mixed up quite the noxious and deadly Toxxie. No hard feelings eh?

UN-Natural Selection by Haddy22 2012-09-05T17:16:00

One of the best uses of the theme I've seen yet! My only complaints are about difficulty due to the short breeding time and the (seeming) lack of recessive traits. Once you've bred what seems to be a race of the same traits it seems like you've lost all the others completely and there's never enough time nor do enough of the previously unfavorable traits survive to develop them when needed.

With some polish this could be a great game Mendeleev would have been proud of :)

Infestation by jwin 2012-09-04T16:35:00

Agree with others about the movement, but the rest was fun and quite entertaining! I played till I died, a few times, so it was definitely engaging.

Congrats on your first ludum dare and I hope to see your first post-compo soon! :D

Flourish by reedlaw 2012-09-04T16:50:00

Haha, yeah, using a new framework (or new language, new operating system, new software, etc.) is always asking for trouble with Ludum Dare!

The map looks pretty nice at least.

The bloody princess of Ludumia by khoa 2012-09-03T23:16:00

The instructions were perfectly written and funny enough to make me chuckle, the problem is that the gameplay is so out of my hands after that. There are a sizeable amount of creatures and they breed far too quickly for me to be able to effectively prune the undesirables. I did my best but it was taking too long for my prince to come along and I eventually gave up. I think with a limited amount of creatures it might be more manageable.

Still, great use of the theme and the sounds effects when you kill a lineage is fantastic xD

The Darwinci Code - Adaption FTW! by wlad 2012-08-30T18:07:00

While the mechanics are really cool and could lend themselves to a fun little puzzle game, the randomness is pushed too far in my opinion. The enemies never try to blend in, the push powerups that appear don't seem to help or hurt anyone specifically and just appear for now reason, and my character's pattern is randomized.

Maybe in later levels there could be shoving? So that even if you find a place it isn't necessarily safe to stay there? Or at the least making the characters able to shift pieces around at will (with either a limited supply or by cooldown).

I don't know, it was fun but it just felt too... out of my hands. Most of the time I could match 2 and still win because the enemies didn't find their matches.

Please develop this more! I can see it becoming a really great and strategically satisfying game :)

Primeval Labs by BMacIntosh 2012-09-04T03:27:00

Wow, that was awesome. The enemies really felt like they got more and more deadly as time went on. Being able to export/import was a definite plus, really cool feature :)

Blocks eating blocks and evolving into more blocks by Peltast 2012-09-04T16:30:00

First time it was night impossible because I was surrounded by water, after reading that I might've gotten a bad random map I refreshed and I must say it was much better!

Also, once I figured out that the blue bar was an air-meter while in water I started surviving a lot longer. While some more feedback on stats would have been nice, I definitely felt that my block was getting stronger, which is awesome!

I hope you keep developing this system :)

The Room by CowboyDan 2012-09-13T04:59:00

I have an Android phone (plus an Android emulator), a Linux virtual box, and Windows. Sadly, no Mac... any chance of it being made available on any of these other platforms?

Galactic Evolution by grifdail 2012-08-28T05:01:00

It's a really straightforward game. I went through a few stages, but I think it wasn't as engaging as it could be since I felt like I was just staring at two sprites while clicking "Attack" over and over again (with "Heal" occasionally). The upgrades is a nice RPG addition, and it got a few good chuckles out of me. Great job!

Gene Game by Split82 2012-08-28T15:50:00

I absolutely love this! Despite feeling like a Zachtronics game (Space Chem as you mentioned, and I'd say like The Codex too) it has a really cool play style. The fact that there's an order-of-operations type mechanic is really cool. It plays smoothly and the levels are fun. Great job!

Who cares evolution? by bukt 2012-08-29T18:04:00

Sweet game! Despite the spelling mistakes it was witty and fun. The indicator worked well enough to let me know how many critters to smoosh and the evolution worked beautifully. Nicely done!

Path of the Warrior by akovaski 2012-08-30T01:15:00

Well, it was simple and what it had going for it was the cute art but I think it needs more content. I don't mind fighting the same enemy a couple of time but every time? It gets repetitive.

How about a defensive enemy? A mixed strategy enemy? An enemy that takes up four squares? A support enemy that only heals bad guys? There is a whole world of possibility for you to explore! I hope you expand upon this :)

It's evolution, baby by Ithildin 2012-08-29T07:43:00

Definitely fits the bill for an Evolution inspired game! But I agree with VAMflax that a speed up would have been much appreciated!

The Silver Spire by charliecarlo 2012-08-29T04:40:00

Really fun and it looks absolutely stunning (even more so after knowing how it all got made from the timelapse). The eating did get a bit tedious so for the subsequent plays I just hacked the eat variable and advanced to the next evolutionary stage immediately.

I had spent quite some time trying to find the food I was missing for the next evolution (since I was so close!) only to find that with hacking there was no next stage to be had... I was devasted xD

You need to keep going with this!

The Silver Spire by charliecarlo 2012-08-29T17:15:00

Well, before I hacked it I had gone the route of the Cobra apparently. I was eating everything in sight but at some point there was nothing more to eat and I couldn't survive underwater so I just gave up.

I did notice how the evolution trigger worked and found that 10, 50 and 100 for food seemed to be the right values iirc :D

Triple Threat by rylgh 2012-08-30T00:39:00

I would love to play this with some friends, it's really tournament worthy! The advantages you get are pretty cool and can be used really darn strategically. Nicely put together :)

RE-evolution: The Legend of Hopper by andreyin 2012-08-30T01:03:00

That was awesome! I didn't have any problems playing it and I only died once before beating the game. Having to see the intro again sucked but since it was only that one time I didn't mind too much.

The graphics are pretty, the animations looks darn good, and the enemies are mysterious and alluring. Throwing the spear to the left was a bit off, I don't think you flipped the image until it was already visible so it has a noticeable wobble as it turns around to face the direction it is traveling.

That ending... so existential! xD

SimEvo by Joror 2012-09-09T21:59:00

Needs a lot of work. Too much info for the player to navigate all at once, especially without an explanation.

From what I could gather, you'd add genes as seen fit to an animal tree representation and it would either thrive or die depending on how fit it is. That sounds great! Keep on developing it :)

Octo-Darwin Vs Bat-Monkey by AaronGordon 2012-09-04T05:55:00

Difficulty is not a problem, hard games can be the best of games. This game is not what I'd call hard, it is just unmediated. What I mean is, the level is too randomly generated. While this is a good idea for replay value, you need to do a lot of fine-tuning and polish the randomness.

Sometimes there's be no weapons to use and other times obstacles would be sent in droves. There needs to be some tweaking to the randomness system to make this game feel more fair.

When it worked right though, it was magical. Loads of fun and silly to boot. Nicely done.

textcraft by panda 2012-09-04T04:03:00

Hehe, I agree with Sestren about the door to DENNIS (http://www.homestarrunner.com/dungeonman.html). I also noticed that giving a name with a space in it ruined the pattern matching when trying to look for an object (say with the name "ye flask").

It was pretty entertaining though, great work!

Reckless Abandon by clavicarius 2012-08-30T05:52:00

It's been a long time since I played a game with a character who at one time or another was simply a floating torso somehow moving around xD

Really fun concept and well executed. Great work!

Slime LifeTime by ItsSacraficed 2012-08-28T18:53:00

Shooting bullets/lasers out of my little creature's Elvis hair? Epic. I was pretty engaged (despite the fighting the same enemy) because I had to get all the upgrades! Once I had them though, I gave up pretty quickly. Much better than many first time games I've seen though! Good job :)

viviDNA by Gama11 2012-09-06T17:09:00

I agree with what you said in your post mortem about the title screen, it is quite beautiful!

I apparently don't play enough avoider games if other people are saying this isn't new, but I think you nailed the physics, the controls feel responsive and solid, and it looks distinct and pretty. Having to hit the right wall to gain DNA and then using that as a source of defense when colliding with an enemy to kill it is really cool.

Nicely done! :)

Existence : Evolving with Videogames by Richard Matey 2012-09-04T06:29:00

The concept is really interesting, "evolving" videogames through a videogame. How meta! The controls are a little sticky, especially in the second part of the game. I ended up jumping over all of the "big" obstacles by ramming my body against the side and holding up to go up.

Evolution by YopSolo 2012-08-28T18:44:00

It was fun but I didn't notice any lose conditions besides maybe the memory leak killing the game if you don't win fast enough. At the credits it says you made it for Ludum Dare #25? I guess you're gonna get a lot of feedback before then! xD

E-Volution By Vagabond by VagabondEx 2012-09-18T00:44:00

Not supremely fun, but it's pretty interesting to see what shapes and forms can be created. There's no driving force though, I don't feel the need to play.

I think with some simplified mechanics and potentially an AI opponent or a countdown this could be really interesting!

Nom Noms: Evolution by sboerwinkle 2012-08-28T15:53:00

Uhhh, I'd give it a try but where's the link?

Color Evolution by enepomnyaschih 2012-08-28T15:59:00

This was actually surprisingly hard! I had to learn how to ration my fuel until I could get close to a resource and then try my best to not actually fall into it! Very fun, but not quite sure how this fits into the theme?

Quantum Seed by motionbit 2012-08-29T15:53:00

The graphics were really well made, and quite honestly is the only thing that kept me playing because I really wanted to see what would happen when I reached 100% but sadly all I got was text and a time (253 seconds). I wish it had more variety, more danger. After only ten seconds I'd already done everything there was to do.

How about adding bad elements that take away from the percentage when absorbed? Or perhaps incoming projectiles that you need to swat away with the spinning mechanic. I think there's a much better game here and you just need to keep exploring :)

Quantum Seed by motionbit 2012-08-29T17:29:00

Time constraints are definitely the enemy during LD! I hope you release a post-jam version with all the great stuff you two had brainstormed!!!

No Tap Enis by Nile 2012-08-28T16:07:00

I really wish the stick had a facing indicator, I know that the obvious "move forward" action will let you know which way you face but having to do that to find out feels odd. Despite being more like growth than evolution, it would be nice if the thickness of the stick and perhaps not just the middles but the full length of the stick could hit the circles. Interesting entry!

Tower of Nugs by TeamKl0n 2012-09-05T17:23:00

It was a cool setup but I would have really loved to have seen the game embedded on a page with the correct size so I didn't have to download it to play it properly (resizing the browser made it nigh-impossible to nail the correct zoom).

Just FYI, you are allowed to fix game-breaking bugs (http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2012/08/27/ludum-dare-24-weekend-ends-time-to-rate-games/) but it's nice to see the original version too!

Friend Ships by introvertlol 2012-08-28T16:13:00

While I was playing I felt like there was a lack of feedback, I had no idea if my bouncing projectiles I was shooting were having any effect at all, they reminded me of ineffectual nerf bullets. Maybe if the enemies/rocks glowed or sparked on impact it'd be more obvious that something was happening. Scratches, soot, whatever you need to add to make sure people understand that they are being affected. Even if I don't quite understand the connection to the theme, it was pretty fun!

Kibitzer by Felipe Budinich 2012-08-28T16:22:00

This is perhaps the slowest paced game I've played in years, but that's fine because it was an almost hypnotic experience. The part I didn't like was that after one planet evolves life you win. I felt like I didn't get to live up to my potential, I wanted many planets! Also, there are far too few asteroids and the lack of choice is suffocating. I want to be able to invest my points as I please, be it in evolving a planet or attacking an asteroid. I think there is a really fun game here, but you need to get back in there and keep going with it!

Kibitzer by Felipe Budinich 2012-08-29T17:22:00

Those changes sound like a good start! Good luck :D

Mutagen by allinlabs 2012-08-29T16:07:00

That was awesome in every way! The visuals were great (I was really digging the shadows), the enemies had variety and style, and the getting of new powers was really fun and kept the game fresh and interesting. You should definitely do something with this, it's got so much potential (much already realized!)

Aniee by dacap 2012-08-29T08:32:00

I guess I'll share what I got out of it. A narrative about technology allowing us to be boxed in because it can provide a facsimile of the sun even in a sealed off environment. It even fails to illuminate as the sun does sometimes when a storm covers the sky.

Interestingly, despite the intense music I couldn't help but whistle "Trapped In A Box" by No Doubt :)

Strike of Rage ! by deepnight 2012-08-30T00:46:00

That.. was.. epic. I really felt the character's pain and wanted to do everything in my power to get the compensation he deserves!! Art style was beautiful, animations were smooth, controls felt responsive, combat was engaging and fun. Overall just damn amazing.

There were just two nitpicks. The first is don't make the us reload the page to restart... I don't know how many static variables you used or what, but there are better ways than page refresh xD

The other is that it's be great if there was an indication of if/when a knocked down combatant was going to get back up. I often got sucker-punched by someone I thought was down for good while focusing on another opponent.

E-VOLV by Valandre 2012-09-05T17:35:00

Ahaha, my first time playing I chose the worst combination of keys possible with this game. WASD and CTRL to fire. Do you want to guess what happened to the game's tab when I tried to shoot while moving upwards? xD

After choosing a better key combination, it was really fun! It would have been more engaging with some audio but for 48 hours there sure is a lot of good gameplay here!

Also, thanks to Benjamin's comment about making sure to get to the boss. It is pretty sweet y'all.

Replicate by Alexbrainbox 2012-08-28T16:27:00

Reaction time games always make me nervous, but in a good fun way? Haha, anyways, the design here is good and the controls are responsive but the game itself doesn't evolve. There is never a curve ball thrown in, it's just the same thing over and over which in the end made me lose on purpose because there seemed to be no point in going on. I think with a few power-ups (or additional surprises) the game could really shine!

Science! by Suyo 2012-08-30T00:54:00

Hmmm. I did enjoy playing, but by the end I just felt like a shepherd since the best strategy seems to be to set up an orbit around the enemy. Despite their having different speeds, they group pretty well if you just circle around them and act like a solar body.

I think you should throw in some that move differently, perhaps instead of going towards where the player current is, some would try and move where the player will be based on current direction and speed. This would make it more fun and more challenging! I was camping the whole time xD

The World of What? by Kaytus 2012-09-04T05:23:00

The game is adorable and looks great! And I had fun with it for the most part. At some point some of the sprites disappeared, but there were implications that they didn't die so I was a bit confused as to what happened.

Shootout by elbowroom 2012-08-28T16:48:00

Wow, that got really fun after level 1!! The slipping around and the angled bullets were a real challenge. Nicely done!

Praegressus by shard123 2012-09-04T04:42:00

The movement felt slow, the enemies were a bit simple-minded, the sounds might have been annoying at times, but the story was well-told. The story was by far the best part of the whole experience, nicely done.

Boxy the Boxcat in Evolution Escapades by matthias_zarzecki 2012-08-30T20:38:00

Cute game! The music set the mood, although it also was kind of at odds with some of the cuter moments of the game. It wasn't readily apparent as to how I could evolve and move the game forward, but after I got that it was a lot more fun and enjoyable. :) I got stuck at the part where you could find a mate haha. Great work!

ProtoZoo by raver1975 2012-08-28T17:36:00

Trying to navigate the mess of organisms was fun, but flicking them around with the mouse? Priceless. Breaking them apart and just narrowly avoiding an enemy cluster was awesome. I wish the game had more of theme, since evolving clusters of organisms would have been great! Overall, it was a fun little romp.

Legacy Bird by Farfin 2012-09-01T09:41:00

Super cute! I love the concept of kissing girls and evolving into the babies that come from it. My only complaint with that was that there were mostly girls whose stats would lower or not even change yours. I know it'd be too easy otherwise, but it was just a note. As always, your art is adorable and very inspiring. :) Great work!

Fire Frog by Jungorend 2012-09-03T23:20:00

Hmm, opened to a black screen, no errors, and pressing esc closes the window. I can't seem to do anything else.

Oh, it does change the title of the window to "Level: 1: Are you ready?" before not doing anything anymore.

Fire Frog by Jungorend 2012-09-03T23:21:00

Forgot to mention, on Window 7 Home Premium x64

Fire Frog by Jungorend 2012-09-04T03:17:00

Ahhhhhh! I see, you might want to put that in the description. After hitting space on the black screen I did get to play the level.

That's a very interesting concept! It was fun trying to dodge the different projectiles so that the character wouldn't swap elemental powers before shooting the right gate. I did notice that it was much easier to shoot by holding down the x key than by tapping it (I think you've got a cooldown for it that only counts down when it is pressed? If so, you should probably change it to always cooldown until ready even if the key isn't pressed)

A fun concept and it was well executed! With some more polish this could be an exceptional game, keep going with it! Post-jam updates please! :)

Upward Mankind by chamberlainpi 2012-08-28T18:23:00

A fun little game but that end! What happened? What was that totemic object? A red flag you say? Hmmm... I didn't know that the history of mankind was just one huge capture the flag match! xD

TONE by DGoodayle 2012-08-30T04:05:00

Loved it through and through. The twitch/reflex type games always make me super nervous but I enjoy every adrenaline pumping second of it. I may have only gotten as high as 66.66% of the high scores but it was 100% fun.

Awesome job! I'm with kibertoad though, don't see what it has to do with the theme xD

R/evolution by AdamHarte 2012-08-28T01:34:00

I liked it for the most part. It was a bit frustrating to press jump in order to jump up and have my character try to fly towards a wheel. Cute play on the theme though. :)

Watching the world evolve by small trouble 2012-09-05T17:06:00

I've never heard of that website before, what an interesting platform for making text adventures!

I liked the writing but it could have done with some more ambiance, like music. A fun little adventure though!

Plinko Breeder by Jedi 2012-09-05T17:56:00

Hehe, that was an amazing creation based on the theme! Kudos to you and your brain.

I sure did get my piece stuck a lot though, it might've been cool if the pieces didn't interact with each other or if there were some way to better your position at the start because many time it didn't reach the end simply because a gargantuan piece had clogged the way.

Please keep developing this! It's an amazing idea :D

Plinko Breeder by Jedi 2012-09-05T18:08:00

Oh yeah! And also, it would be nice to still be able to compare the offspring with the original like you could when choosing with whom to mate ;)

Plinko Breeder by Jedi 2012-09-15T21:39:00

Tried the updated version and I just wanted to let you know that it's a huuuuuge step forward! I had 10x the fun playing this new version and that's saying a lot as I really enjoyed the original.

Seeing those enemy pieces wobbling about (and sometimes me using them as mobile stepping stones) was fantastic!

/high-five

simUniverse by Rex Peppers 2012-08-29T16:41:00

Hahahaha, I love this and I love you for making it.

Plop by Yann 2012-08-28T19:16:00

That was a really solid game! Despite the twitchy gameplay/controls when I played it was really fun to fuse the creatures and then have access to more powers in one! Awesome idea and well executed. I think you should definitely keep going with this idea.

The Path for Evolution by DavidErosa 2012-09-05T18:33:00

Great entry, took me a bit to figure out the first level but once I got over that hump it was all pretty straightforward!

Found a bug in the 3D world where if you scale the side of the mountains towards the door and don't go around the easy shallower entrance the door won't open and you can't exit the level.

The Rapunzel level was hilarious as was the 1,000 kittens. I want to find out if getting through all of them entails a reward... but I need to find the time to do it xD

Genes Chase by Mago 2012-09-05T18:41:00

I too noticed the infinite jump with the frog, but at least it enabled me finish the level by floating up to the higher areas!

With some more polish I could see this being a lot of fun with the evolution mechanic you have. It reminded me of The Silver Spire's mechanic (http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-24/?action=preview&uid=15812)

Game Time Evolution by Jacic 2012-09-04T06:40:00

The jump controls felt a bit strange...like the physics of the jump was very "floaty", and I felt like it wasn't very responsive sometimes. It made for a strange experience when I was trying to get through the levels. I liked the idea of having a limiting agent on the pause, it really helped make the game more balanced in difficulty.

Social Evolution by Jorjon 2012-09-04T04:59:00

Hilarious game! As I was glancing at the upgrades and negative efects, I thought it was entertaining what kinds of things would happen if my character ran into certain tiles. The art style is cool, although I was initially confused as to why there were so many "ghosts" of girls lingering around. Great work! It was fun!

Evolve 'em all by kill0u 2012-08-28T17:15:00

Oh man! Anyone who has seen me play a bullet hell game will tell you, I LOVE BULLET HELL GAMES. Despite dying, a lot, this was actually pretty fun! I think the boss needs more variation in the attacks though, the pattern needs to vary by a few degrees so that I can't camp one area and always be safe.

The Legend of Marilia by Doft 2012-09-08T22:26:00

Fantastic! It was really fun to discover new rooms and items in chests that could make the trek forward possible. It does feel very complete and was fun to play through.

I think the enemy behavior could be improved if they didn't start moving towards the player until they had line of sight, I really had to watch out when entering new rooms or rounding corners because enemies tended to hug the walls while trying to get to me before we'd even seen each other!

Also, nice touch with the differently colored walls on different levels. Helps reinforce that it's a new level.

Coming Into Focus by Gjarble 2012-08-29T08:21:00

Well that was different. I actually really love the concept, it's very much in the keeping with the theme. It's too bad level two is so difficult for me! That lower portion with the X weaving bested me every time xD

The ducks are taking over!! by JaJ 2012-08-28T21:10:00

@TheSheep That hole in the first level isn't an exit, as I too originally thought! The other levels make that clear but it's not apparent at first.

Fun game, kept me coming back for more! I think the AI for movement needs some work still though, since on Level 2 it actually makes them easier when they evolve since they won't walk off their little spawn platforms xD

Microbe Madness! by Matt Rix 2012-08-28T01:20:00

Pretty sweet! It was fun trying to beat up the other teams and the upgrade system was well thought out, albeit not immediately recognized. It was a bit on the simpler side, but I'm not really complainig. :) The art was cute as well.

2052 by Mach60KAS 2012-08-29T17:11:00

Very different than the other entries I've played thus far. Took me back to the old System Shock games with all the non-mission-critical information you can gather that is just lore. Really well written but I wish it were longer or there were more breadth! Keep going with this :)

The SuperBugs by Josh @ Dreamland 2012-09-09T21:31:00

Reading about the enemy evolution makes them sound pretty cool! During the game however, I totally didn't notice. Maybe I just didn't kill the same enemy often enough?

In any case, it was still a fun game to play though the sound effects got more and more annoying until I eventually just muted the game xD

OF SPECIES by kato9 2012-09-03T18:00:00

Took me a bit to figure out that I had to simply use the hexagon item but after that it all fell into place. Great use of ambiance to create mood. The ending was unexpected, but it was a solid ending.

The World of Worlds by 2A1S 2012-08-30T05:40:00

That was really cool, it was a really fun combination of tower defense and resources management with a splash of real time strategy for the heck of it.

Please do keep expanding this game! I'd love to play a more fleshed out version :D

Future Rabbit by airdeck 2012-09-04T04:47:00

Really cute game!!! Although I found the sharp contrast of the stitching to be a bit visually overwhelming sometimes, I think it's adorable to have made a game based off of that aesthetic! The game itself was fun. I had a lot of fun just spam pressing the shoot bar and trying to evolve my bunny. Maybe you can have some sort of limiter to the shoot button, since I just kept twitch-pressing it throughout the game haha. Great work! It looks lovely!

Omega Architecture by kibertoad 2012-09-03T23:30:00

More explanation would have been greatly appreciated, but after fiddling around and getting some stuff built it became a lot more fun. The intro was hilarious and the voices throughout were darned amusing.

Great work!

Land Evo by flashkick 2012-08-28T19:19:00

Bouncing around and trying to eat up as many enemies was cool but about a minute into my first game I got a strange bug where after colliding with an enemy I got sent outside the playing field! I think I might've gotten stuck in a corner between land and water but I got pushed down and outside the level into the black void xD

Sprout by cadin 2012-08-31T09:43:00

Loved the art for this game! Having the vines grow the way they did really gives room for creative growing and movement. That being said, I agree with someones' earlier comment that it would have been cool to have seen the final product of your little vine-ling. Great work, it's gorgeous!

Curiosity, The Untold Story by Zoomyzoom 2012-09-04T05:37:00

I love the real Curiosity, and yet I still approve of this game. It's a silly adventure and the zombies often cluster up for easy killing but it's just zany enough to be fun!

Lucid by Redream 2012-08-28T04:40:00

Very lovely game! I loved the way the music and the atmosphere really worked together. You had inquired if it may have been too hard, and I really don't think it was that hard at all. :) I did wish that the arrow keys went with movement as well (since I'm right handed and prefer working with arrows over WASD) and that the intro was skippable. I know that last one is minute, but it's just a thought. :) Great work for 48 hours! The art is lovely in its minimalism!

Robot Panic by Oliver Simon 2012-08-30T05:10:00

This is among the harder LD games I've played. That's not necessarily a bad thing but since I blame the physics making it hard it is something you should watch out for :O

The level design wasn't half bad! Puzzles were good and the concept was solid. I think you should keep going with it!

Species by mappum 2012-08-30T03:53:00

Wow! Just wow. I started playing this and thought it was going to be a cool game and it kinda had a portal-esque vibe until *wham* light out! When that first slenderman sidled up to me and screeched I damn near hit the roof. It was, and I'm not kidding, utterly terrifying. I was scared the whole time I wandered through the empty rooms, always panicked and swaying my flashlight in every possible direction to avoid another confrontation.

When I got to the end I told Cake she had to play it, and she was scared too. We both loved the atmosphere and my god did you get the scary parts right. Amazing job you did :)

Ninjural Selection by axcho 2012-09-13T19:36:00

At first, yeah, it was a bit boring since I was just walking around a killing things for no reason, but after I started imagining this as a fully fledged experience (with achievements and destinations) it got really interesting.

I challenged myself to kill a certain amount of guys, or to hunt down ones with "horns", or to wall slide for a certain distance. There are just so many possibilities and your update with the target is cool, but please go further! :)

Uberlution by Robotic 2012-09-09T22:10:00

I lost soooooo many times at the start because everything I could find was twice or three times as big as I was. Maybe consider scattering a few smaller enemies around the player starting position to ensure they get bigger?

Visuals were phenomenal. And the controls felt solid, despite the button mashing being a bit overwhelming on my poor keyboard xD

Candy Shop by foxor 2012-08-29T23:48:00

Wow, that was actually really fun to play. I fiddled with it a bit until I figured out how movement worked (sucks that choosing an invalid space negates your turn!) and then combat and fusions. As others have said, having to move the mouse all the way to the top left to choose an action slows down the pace of the game but unlike the other suggestions of context menus and the like, I'd love some good old keyboard shortcuts. Touch controls are great for touchscreens, but I have here some 104+ keys ready to be used.

Hope you keep developing this! :)

SPECIES by alwaysinbeta 2012-08-30T18:11:00

Particle effects in an otherwise very boxy 2d platforming shooter? xD

I got stuck in a wall a couple of times and the collisions didn't feel right in general. The jumping also needs some work I think. It feels too linear and when jumping I like to feel the gravity slow my down and then pull me back.

The silly characters were amusing, but why are those red guys always so grumpy?? They could learn a thing or two from the mustachioed men.

Dissolution by Sergey Mohov 2012-08-28T18:39:00

Lots of jumping to avoid filling up with color! I think the only time I wasn't jumping was during the quiver cutscene, which you might want to address since the player has no control then. Overall, I too want more levels :)

LD25 — You are the Villain

Bunnie by Dmitrix 2012-12-19T05:29:00

"Sorry about how buggy everything is, it will eventually be
fixed." On the contrary! It all worked flawlessly.

Jumping on top of those poor little bunnies was quite fun! Though the fact that there are no rewards and no progression made me stop after about ten or so killed. The physics felt right, and the bunnies spawning out of mid-air was quite hilarious.

You've got a solid base and it's only the Ludum Entry time that has ended, not this game. I urge you all to add some rules and gameplay. It could be quite fun! :D

Doctor Spandex by Cássio Eduardo 2012-12-19T05:53:00

Quite fun! Though the controls are a bit awkward since pressing up for the platforming was a toggle when it feels more like a works-while-button-held type mechanic.

Trying to sneak around was really cool, I discovered late in the game that I could bash the alarms to disable them but I don't think I'd have ever used it. I like to clonk the guards on the head before they can activate it for some reason. You actually made burglary feel like a lot of fun! :D

Tiny Sorceress by L 2012-12-30T01:58:00

Hilarious game! I love the little details you added to interactions and things that happen while you're playing, such as the spiderwebs and the "falling-into-the-mouth" business. Took me by surprise and was really enjoyable. Great work! :)

My First Ping Pong Massacre by Martin Vilcans 2012-12-29T08:07:00

Incredible work! I actually did enjoy bombing the heck out of the buildings and trying to increase the kill count which makes me, among others who also enjoyed playing, very much the villain.

I think the fact that the buildings don't have any visible creatures and no blood is spilled upon the destruction of said buildings that the player can't exactly connect with the mass murdering they are doing. It feels more like you are destroying a condemned and empty town.

Still, I wouldn't be surprised if some people were genuinely traumatized by this game. The creator of Missile Command, Dave Theurer, has said that he had nightmares about cities being destroyed while creating the game.

More to the point: The game has good execution, very amazing graphics, and a good use of the theme. Well done sir, well done!

Villaintris by Birchmountain 2012-12-24T23:58:00

Absolutely brilliant idea! The execution is interesting and despite it being a bit tough to choose the next tetromino, I can't think of a more devious way to hide the fact that there is a choice at all.

I will have to find myself an unsuspecting victim to try this out on. Awesome job! :D

MEMEX by Cake&Code 2012-12-20T01:48:00

Thanks for all the comments everyone! The controls being fiddly was a trade off we made for long-range movement with a single key press, it might not have been the best decision and we'll try and make the controls are more solid for next time! The feedback is always appreciated :D

@23: We tried our best with the level design but yeah that second level isn't the best of teachers, we'll try to keep that in mind for the future. As for the speed up, sorry to hear about that! I hope it didn't interfere too badly. Thanks again!~

@matthias_zarzecki: Sorry about that! We definitely weren't trying to make levels that punish players. Next time we'll try to make the levels more informative rather than simply evil :)

@zenmumbler: Puzzles were definitely just a vehicle to let the narrative unfold. Thanks!

@caranha: We're sorry about the story not being clear enough! Puzzlem00n has an excellent synopsis in his comment that we hope will clear things up :D

@GFM: The memories are in first person because they are his memories and you in his mind when experiencing them, but yes you are right about the player being the dark-haired girl. Sorry it wasn't more clear! It was a very experimental execution for both of us. We'll definitely learn from all of it. Thanks! :)

@Puzzlem00n: D'awww, you're too kind. We're so glad you enjoy it so much and you totally nailed the story! Thank you <3

The Button by Tim Bumpus 2012-12-29T09:46:00

The story was good, and the revelation of each piece came in manageable chunks which is always appreciated :)

As others have said, the movement was very floaty which means it felt a bit slow to control sometimes but they really came in handy to beat the final boss because I could float for a bit over the spikes and lead my nemesis to his doom.

The mechanics of being able to sidestep spikes was really cool! Forced me to think outside the box when trying to get past them sometimes.

Great work Puzzlem00n :3

Crime in the City by Volute 2012-12-29T10:10:00

My god, the amount of menus and buttons and options were overwhelming. A very deep and comprehensive undertaking for the compo, my hat is off to you sir.

Virus Infestation by Zathalos 2012-12-19T06:27:00

I agree with the others, confusing at first, but only because there is so much going on that is out of my control. Slowly starting getting it. It's surprisingly fun! :D

Mad Princess by AdventureIslands 2012-12-19T00:48:00

Great game!!! I love the attention to detail, like the Princess's face as she's being dragged out. I had the same thing happen that others commented on, where i killed the last hero during the dragging out phase and it was confused whether I won or lost. Awesome overall though, I had a lot of fun playing.

Revenge Bear by dek 2012-12-19T01:04:00

It was really well done, and the controls felt mostly solid. It was fun to beat up the waves of enemies, but they all felt like reskins of the same basic AI.

Also, I never felt like the Villain, if anything it's all these intruders in my home that are the villains.

Mr Toothy by psychopsam 2012-12-19T07:13:00

While I agree with timtipgames and understand where you're coming from but you could have made it a one-button game where you click and hold to move in the direction you want to go and it would have still been intuitive. Click and hold the mouse down further away to move faster even, if you wanted. The limitation of one button is no excuse for this extremely difficult control scheme.

The frame speed problem probably didn't help as the game ran blazingly fast and it was impossible to control the shark xD

This Is How It Ends by Ted Brown 2012-12-18T22:43:00

Wow, that was surprisingly engaging. The narrative was great and the controls were really well done. It has an almost Saira-esque lonely feel to it, it was really shocking.

Some more work and this could be a really, really amazing game! Please keep working on it!

Nosferatu by jerombd 2012-12-19T05:24:00

I agree about the bad collision, regardless, I hit all the switches and even got to my casket in the end! I got 385 point or so, yay! Though the last level with the sleeping people seemed bugged as I couldn't die from the yellow spears/arrows flying across the room.

Really cool aesthetic! I hope that "to be continued" is accurate! I'd love to play more levels :D

As an aside, I don't really consider Nosferatu to be a Villain, just misunderstood xD

Lumberjack by BrothersT 2012-12-29T08:38:00

The gameplay and controls are nigh-flawless. I had a ton of fun going through all the levels though I wished there was a scoring system (possibly even some rewards for not using axes on levels that can done without them?).

The story at the end feels a bit tacked on to fit the theme, maybe if there had been some more exposition between levels as well as potentially an intro it might not have felt so jarring and misplaced. It was funny and relevant though, especially having that final word.

Overall, I really hope you all expand upon this! More levels and gameplay would be awesome :D

Trina of The Depths by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2012-12-18T16:30:00

I love the way Trina moves! There's a lot of attention to detail and I went far enough to catch your easter eggs. (They made me lol, hehehe) You did excellently, and I think Trina is adorable. :)

Evil Dudes Need Evil Towers by jujule 2012-12-23T11:18:00

Pretty great mix of a bullet game and tetris! I kind of disliked how difficult it started off. I felt like having it ease into the difficulty would really help develop a learning curve to how the game worked. Great job!

3vil kill3r r0b0tz by Nsmurf 2012-12-19T00:30:00

The music helped really set the mood, but the screaming noises were really jarring and uncomfortable. It'd also be cool to destroy houses! It was satisfying to saw people down though. :) Great work!

PANIC BANK by Shugor 2012-12-19T00:41:00

Haha, it is really hard to get away from the top-floor Nessalike when he's got you pinned up against a wall and is kicking repeatedly.

Interesting game, jumping felt really floaty though. Hope you expand upon it! :D

Villain by Mathias Olsson 2012-12-29T09:01:00

Sound effects are bar none the best I've heard in any other entry so far xDD

Really awesome physics too!

Villain OS 8 by tommycreo 2012-12-30T01:53:00

Cute interface! I love the graphics work you did for this. I think keyboard controls could've helped, since I had to snipe the buttons a lot of the times. Great work! :)

Aliens and the End of the World by D3zmodos 2012-12-18T22:36:00

Meteor to the face! Take that humans! Hahaha.

With some kind of retaliation features and some more actions this could be a really fun game. The best part is that the feel hasn't been decided yet, it could be a funny game or a serious game and would work out really well either way.

Please do keep going with this! :Db

A Villain's Demise by monomanio 2012-12-19T18:57:00

I thought this was a great game! It was fun, and not too high-stress since there were a lot of power ups flying down if I happened to mess up here and there. After a few minutes of playing I sort of lost the purpose of what I was doing, but I still thought it was fun. :) Great work! + Your timelapse was fun to watch too!

ETGA! by Graf_Grun 2012-12-19T06:20:00

"VILLIANOUS" typo /facepalm xD

Also, I love the fact that because of the head-on view of the road and pedestrians combined with a three-quarters view of the truck makes for acceleration and deceleration when switching lanes because of the diagonal motion. An interesting choice.

As far as the game itself goes, it was really fun to squash, crush, crunch, and splatter all the silly creatures walking across the road. They're crazy if they thing I'll avoid them!

Angry Purple Monster by ramoncb 2012-12-18T23:47:00

Hehe, the Otomata generated music is noticeable, but has the right kind of mood.

The game itself just feels slow. Enemies spawn at a decent rate, but it is a repetitive oncoming wave of the same thing. I wish there was more going on, so please do keep working on the game! Put in some special area attacks (like a giant fire blast) or some more quicker but less effective enemies or some score counter.. something. It has potential, and you need to realize it :D

Corruption by KingSavate 2012-12-19T00:21:00

Funny game! The options to interact with different characters is pretty funny. I think the camera could keep the main character centered at all times since the it was a little tight seeing what was ahead of me. Great job!

Pissin' You Off! by berareu 2012-12-18T22:12:00

Bouncing off of walls made sense (somewhat) when I was actually running at them, but when you're right next to a wall and moving a centimeter towards it kicks you back a few feet I had to laugh a little xD

Also, I noticed that I could simply wander around the room a bit and get a new spot to pee on that was still far from the first person outside the room. So, I could simply walk around, pee, and repeat without ever leaving the room and simply accrue score/points.

Fun game, fitting graphics, and a funny take on the theme! Congrats :D

Make It Black by zenmumbler 2012-12-18T23:53:00

I had a lot of fun recklessly spewing black bile out. It was a tad on the easy side, and could use different enemies to toss things up, but I still enjoyed it. The ending was cute. :)

Villain Quest by ENP 2012-12-19T00:22:00

Didn't want to install the air application and the web link is down. Fix it and I'll come back later to give this one a go :D

Jelly Hunt by bentog 2012-12-23T11:24:00

Cute graphics! Love the jellies, and it's humorous to see how they're rendered. I didn't understand why I kept dying, but it was a fairly enjoyable game to play anyways. Great work. :)

G.O.A.T. by ChainedLupine 2012-12-19T11:19:00

The sounds and visuals fit so well together it feels deviously delicious whenever those anvils crush the unsuspecting goats below. So much fun!

I'm sure you've got a ton of ideas bouncing around for how to make this a fully-featured experience: Adding a goal, danger, time limit, etc. So yes, please do! I'd love to see this game get fleshed out :D

Silent night by krutech 2012-12-30T00:17:00

Muahahaha, I had a ton of fun stealing those gifts from the houses. The AI felt random but it meant that they were also unpredictable which worked really well when navigating those tight spaces.

Overall really great execution, pretty art, and a good use of the theme! :D

Stealther - The Great Heist by Dissing 2012-12-30T02:05:00

Fun to play for a bit, but the mechanics get a bit old too quickly. Maybe add some more variety such as walls that open and close? Speed powerups? An emp-type effect to disable flashlights? Something to add some spice :)

As others have pointed out, the resolution is far too big. My computer is 1440x900 and because of the title bar the game just barely doesn't fit height-wise which means if the exit was at the bottom I couldn't see it. Also the movement felt a little bit too slow. Oh, and the instructions said I could use wasd or the arrow keys but the arrow keys only seem to work in the menu?

Trade Persuasion by Mezzomatto 2012-12-19T06:12:00

Hehe, this was rather fun if a bit click-frustrating (lots of frantic clicking!). I like the idea and the execution is really well done.

Some things I noticed though were that everything has very fixed spawn points so that it becomes a chore to deal with the enemies as they all feel repetitive. A bit more randomness and potentially progression (introduction of new enemy weapons or behaviors) would have been a breath of fresh air.

The end was surprising and awesome. I was expecting to just lose and have a results screen, but having the dude escape and then quantifying the score as a human-cash-value of destruction was epic. I mean I dealt $53,800,000,000 in damages! Take that human race xD

The "Great" British Weather by bradleypollard 2012-12-29T09:19:00

A solid game, though it seemed a bit more on the difficult side (which is not necessarily a bad thing!)

The graphics were fitting, the sounds were fun, and the controls worked perfectly. Awesome job! :D

Caluminator by therayman94 2012-12-18T22:05:00

An interesting integration of the theme on many levels!

When I first picked up the club and swung it I thought it was going to be a delayed attack (because of the animation taking forever to swing) so when I encountered the seals the first time I tried to swing early and let the forward club frame of the animation be when I tried to charge the seals... only to discover it hit immediately after a key press and not like the animation shows. A bit confusing.

Also, running past the seals you can go off-camera where most seals won't follow, and those that do eventually stop going right after you.

Despite that, it was enjoyable. Good job!

Robin Banks by BlockBrains 2012-12-30T00:27:00

Easy to learn, hard to master. Really good execution of the theme with a fun and enticing presentation!

It was fun to rob those people of their cash, but I feel like you should also be trying to nab those wallets for bonus monies, but instead they just hurt you which feels wrong. I can understand the suitcases, phones, and lattes but the wallets? I wanna rob them blind haha

Great work!

Necrominously Evil by Azlen 2012-12-30T00:35:00

Really awesome concept here, never thought I'd see an audio game on LD and even less so for this theme!

The mechanic is implemented well, though as others have said already the steed difficulty curve and the wall-sticking got in the way a bit.

I hope you develop this further! :D

Build-a-Bandit by hissssssssss 2012-12-19T09:04:00

I loved that customization screen! Though it was a bit tragic when my setting the hat to epic tallness didn't translate into the actual duel graphics. The mustache did though! Yay!

The dueling felt very detached. But I did enjoy watching the console output list the hit/miss status as well as the damage dealt on hit! Yay for debug output :D

Fragment Division by jhrrsn 2012-12-29T08:16:00

Feels really polished! The spotlight looks great and the enemy spawning rate seems about right. After a while I found that the best strategy was simply to tap and hold the shift key for a bit, release, then start again to cover swaths of land. I could cover 360 degrees before anyone could get to me.

I wish there was more to this game which means you've done a good job. I hope you play with this game idea more and create some more content or a full game! :D

Villingen by monobo 2012-12-29T09:14:00

Planes were tricky to grab (especially since there is no feedback about when you are hovering over them properly) but it was loads of fun to fling planes at each other in the hopes that their crash trajectories would hit some buildings! Really cool mechanic and use of the theme! :D

In terms of the packaging of the game. While including the whole JRE with the game does eliminate the problem of people who don't have java installed, it also bloated the file size significantly (~68% of the file size) though I'm not sure if it would be easy to stop jMonkey from doing this. The sound files also accounted for a significant chunk of the size and could probably have been compressed or cut more without anyone noticing (I noticed the biggest file was duplicated in both mp3 and ogg and even potentially not used at all?). The surprising part was the fact that you included all the original blender files for the models as well as the exported j3o files. You really should've trimmed those out as they simply take up space. Sorry for the rant! I'm just a bit psycho about efficiency xD

Le Pere Fouettard by Alexandre Szybiak 2012-12-29T09:59:00

Ahahaha, I had a ton of fun playing this little gem xD

Great concept, solid execution, and a fantastic use of the theme. As TheSheep said, if only there were sound! It is really the only criticism I have.

Hope you keep working on this post-compo! :D

Super Villains, LLC by Monxcleyr Productions 2012-12-19T08:53:00

Quite fun once you start understanding how it all works, I agree with most of the other comments about maybe a bit more description. Though discovering what it all does is a tad exciting :D

Ninox the Nightbringer by Dining Philosopher 2012-12-19T00:15:00

Interesting game! The music got me pumped, and darkening the world wasn't as easy as it sounded when you couldn't even see all the switches until you lit them up or accidentally walked over them. Very clever!

Saying the game runs under OSX, Windows, Linux is all well and good, but not saying that it requires pygame is misleading. I hope you get that compiled version working! :D

Dig Dastardly by luke161 2012-12-18T22:00:00

While overall pretty great, it took me a while to realize that the numbers at the top right were the loot indicators, after I looted the bank and got home I was expecting some kind of new level or popup with "Good job!" etc... I had to read the comments to realize that I just had to keep going back and forth on the same level.

The enemy spawning, block regenerating, and all the mechanics work really well to make a challenging but not impossible experience. Really polished feel for the most part.

Nicely done!

ASMOSNOS by Mase 2012-12-30T18:41:00

It was a very strange game experience for me. I don't know if I got to run into a lot of other things like some other folks did since I ran by one area, and then got to the "X" and suddenly the game was over. It was strange and kooky, and I like it that way. The art was cool, and the music was somewhat fitting although a little on the erratic side. Great work on developing this world though! :)

UREVIL ENDLESS TD! by Saisaith 2012-12-19T00:20:00

The music was intense and I agree whole heartily with dissonance's comment. Good game, but some more features would have been awesome!

Super Escape by Saspiron 2012-12-19T06:55:00

It took a second to figure out how the controls worked, but once I did it was brilliant. Using the mouse feels precise until you get to the jumping levels when the vertical movement breaks down and becomes uncoupled from the mouse.

Fun to play if a bit buggy, totally keep developing this! :D

Kitten Hater by Dyn 2012-12-18T22:27:00

I agree with Jezzamon, I wish I could see where the other world will be without trial and error and level restarting.

Cool mechanics nonetheless, good job!

Bad Bad Pigeon by Andrey Pradun 2012-12-19T08:57:00

Cute game! The graphics really add to that effect. I like the idea of pooping on the cows and different little monuments, but I did think the movement was a bit awkward. The bounce-back was a bit hard to recover from, so I lost about 3 or so hearts on one error that I tried to recover from. Overall, it was fun! I really enjoyed playing it. :D

Evile, inc by nickworks 2012-12-30T01:56:00

A fun reverse-shmup! Bullet-hell games are always so difficult for me, despite my loving them, so it was good to turn the tables and be the one dishing out the pain for a change! :)

Also, thank you for including the number key bindings! Absolutely indispensable.

Blood Money by Typedeaf 2012-12-19T10:12:00

This game is awesome fun! At first I wasn't sure why the blood wasn't an auto-gather feature like the souls, then I slaughtered about five people and had covered the field of view in blood before sweeping it up just in the nick of time! (some of it had just begun to vanish).

Others have already mentioned the collision issues. I totally also did exactly what Norgg did as well, such a lonely life we lead xD

Great work, please do keep working on it!

Villain on a train by pinion 2012-12-18T23:07:00

Needs some more content, but the options that are available were interesting and funny! I hope you keep working on it :D

Kill Kong by shaneshanekavanagh 2012-12-23T17:53:00

The sound effect when you die is hilarious. It was pretty fun, although a little difficult and took me a few tries to get anywhere. It'd be nice if he could turn around and face you while you're shooting him from behind. Great work!

Splendorman by raubana 2012-12-19T05:42:00

Wow that was brilliant. Despite the annoying controls I was able to win once! After losing about seven times but that's no problem. The important was that it was thoroughly engaging.

The audio was amazing. Truly great work there, it sounded just like me playing Slender for the first time. The visuals were mostly great too, except for the awkward pixelly people sprites, but the flash light and trees were good.

I suppose the most successful thing about this game is that you have to beat it much like the Slenderman does in Slender. You need to lie in wait until the person comes to you and then you can sneak up behind them and wait for them to turn around and run into you.

Kudos. You've made something great that with a little polish could be an even more solid experience! ;D

The villain's Rules ! by zimra 2012-12-23T19:05:00

Cute game. :) I liked the idea of it, and it was fun to figure out the right order in which to do these. I sort of wish I could move the objects once I placed them (somehow I couldn't?) since I didn't know what each one did until I placed them down. Looks great though! Fantastic job. :)

Mitt Romney and the Case of the Sex Doll by jackspinoza 2012-12-18T23:42:00

That music is really fitting, though extremely disturbing. The movement is really too slow for the kind of distances that need traversing, and it makes the game really slow. I gave up because it was taking forever to get anywhere.

Lastly, 73.2mb? Wowza, the sounds alone account for a huge chunk of the game size (about 70% of it) and the other being the use of PNG for images (which account for another 20%) that would compress so well with JPG. I think it would be more accessible to more people if this wasn't the case. Not gonna take away from your ratings, but it is going to take away from the amount of people who rate it :O

Dr. Vile in The Greater Good by GreenPixelDev 2012-12-29T09:35:00

Really fun game mechanics! A sleek graphical style with a fun story thrown in as well and you've got quite the game here!

I hope to see that next part of the game get developed. I'd love to take Dr. Ben Evolent down a peg! >:D

LS-MAN by LoneStranger 2012-12-19T05:57:00

Haha, I had a list of games I knew people would role-reverse, and Pacman was most definitely on it!

I agree with Komradus, adding a button shortcut to select ghost would have been really great, it is hard to click them when they're moving. More often that not I won by accident while trying to direct a particular ghosty.

I hope you keep developing this!

Goat Factory by nilstastic 2012-12-24T23:41:00

Pretty fun little puzzle game! Feels like Lemmings except you need to hurtle the goats into a meat grinder instead of lead them to safety. Hmm, more of a mix of Super Meat Boy with Lemmings, in reverse.

Others have already pointed out the problems with restarting a level, it would be much easier to tweak things instead of replacing all of them.

Hope you keep developing it post-compo! It could be a whole lot more fun if you added levels and objects :)

Land of the Weebums by vrav 2012-12-30T01:52:00

Hehehe, those unsuspecting little gummibear wannabes! I flung em off that rock so fast, they didn't know what was going on.

Fun concept, well-executed, and a good use of the theme! Well done :)

Dungeon Mastermind by 7Soul 2012-12-30T01:47:00

I think I lost? The hero made it to the last dungeon but I didn't get any notification of win or lose.

It was fun to try and find the hero's weakness though the interface wasn't instantly intuitive. A little overview or tutorial would have been appreciated but I can understand the time constraints.

Hope you develop this further! :)

Greed by Gib 2012-12-30T08:52:00

Amazing entry! I really like the thought and idea of either being a villain or donating. I had a lot of fun fiddling with it. :)

Bad Driver! +1 by uncade 2012-12-18T21:46:00

Hahaha, I was having some fun until I hit another car in a head-on collision and fell out of the world. Then it was an air bonus paradise.

Fun game. Simplistic graphics were fitting, it would be an altogether different experience with realistic graphics. The physics were a bit off (getting onto ramps is tricky!) but didn't take too much away from the experience.

Great use of the theme! :D

Tale of Scale by ratking 2012-12-19T06:36:00

Incredible. The mechanic is absolutely brilliant from top to bottom. It reminds me of all the times I've held up my hand to my eyes and done the proverbial "I am crushing you with my fingers" maneuver.

The levels were fun and different which helped keep the mechanic fresh. I do hope you expand upon this! :D

Heroes are so Annoying! by Knighty 2012-12-19T00:12:00

That was fun! Didn't realize "x" was to select the options. Took me a good minute pressing enter and clicking and figuring out what button to press would select. Maybe adding Enter as another key would be a good idea? Despite that, I had a lot of fun playing. It was challenging!

The World is Mine! by matthias_zarzecki 2012-12-30T00:05:00

A fun little game but, as others have said, there is no opposition. No resistance from the peoples and cities of the Earth :O

The balancing of the goons felt about right. At first it was more cost effective to buy them in bulk before invading a bunch of cities but after taking over enough cities it became much more efficient to rain down missiles on them. Pretty cool!

The moon doom laser was awesome! I definitely felt like I'd conquered the world at that point :)

Fleeced by shiftingParadigms 2012-12-18T21:50:00

Par was way off, it feels more like the "optimal" solution than just "par".

I don't see how I'm the villain either. A wolf eating sheep seems like a natural part of life, no? I think it needs to be developed further in this aspect.

A lose condition would be good, it's not necessary but it would make the game a whole lot more engaging.

Infidel by Winterblood 2012-12-29T07:45:00

The lighting is great, and being able to turn off the torches adds a good level of stealth options. If you turn them all off, you'll have trouble seeing.. but so will the guards. Very cool.

As for the gold, it was really hard for me to find more than about 4 bars. Maybe make them shimmer once in a while to make them easier to spot? Or some kind of limited "thief mode" view with a cooldown where you can easily see them?

All in all, it is a pretty good game idea! I hope you keep developing it :)

Also! The mouse inversion option is great, although I'd have set the default to off instead of on, thanks for including it!

Gobelin's dungeon by Manest 2012-12-18T23:41:00

That was entertaining! The adventurers were kicking my butt quite a bit, but it was nice being challenged.

Not my fault by uuav 2012-12-18T22:20:00

What a little kleptomaniac! Haha, fun enough to warrant more development on it if you're feeling up to it. The fact that the character feels like he doesn't want to steal makes for a really intriguing experience.

Demon King Goes For a Ride by 23 2012-12-30T01:41:00

Had the same problem as Yacodo, upon restarting it ran much much better!

Destroying all the houses and trees is a bit much, maybe wiping out 80% would have been better? It sucks when you near the end and there are single ones left peppered around the map.

Overall, fun and interesting to master those controls. Like the art! :)

Mr Wizard VS The World by Jacic 2012-12-18T22:25:00

That is one mean goat monster! Hehe, nicely done with that.

It was a bit hard to tell what was going on and when. Animations would have been great, but even just some simple +5 or -1 or some way to show that stats have changed due to attack would have been good!

Fun enough though I wasn't fully engaged.

Good job! :D

Hunter to Hunted by Jwatt 2012-12-24T23:50:00

Hmm, the web link seems to be down. I'll give it a go as soon as it's up again :)

Illegal Crime Game by angrygeometry 2012-12-19T00:33:00

Hahaha, this is by far the most hilarious game I've played so far. Brilliant humour and good writing. Love the glitch character... ??????

Another Castle by RosyPenguin 2012-12-30T01:41:00

Great work! I wish there were some form of on screen instructions, since I thought the first level was just a cut scene and didn't really do anything. It wasn't until I was 3-4 levels in that I picked up the general mechanics of the game. The player could be more involved. The music and the art are great though! :)

Banished by Kharza 2012-12-29T07:58:00

The tone throughout the game is very well done! It feels melancholic and familiar, though distinctly alien and a bit hostile.

The unfolding narrative is good, if a bit blunt, and though getting the staff doesn't make me powerful I think it isn't supposed to. The character has fallen from power and a simple staff isn't going to restore them. Very well done there.

The ending reminded me a lot of Half-Life. The choice is made, but the consequences are not fully clear.

I hope to see a sequel and/or expanded game :3

Eaten by wzl 2012-12-19T11:49:00

Haha, the sound effects were definitely my favourite part of the game! So epic xD

Besides a few quirks like no z-sorting so sometimes I was standing on people's heads, it was quite fun and flawless! Trying to kill people in relative secrecy so I could scarf down the entrails was fun!

You should definitely add some more game elements and you'd have a fully fleshed out game ready for people to enjoy en masse! ;D

Soulless Robot Rampage by Falkreon 2012-12-30T02:00:00

I had headphones on and almost went deaf when the game had finished booting up xD

Like deathray, I too seemed to more often than not move wayyy too fast and die quickly. It was still fun when I managed to get through the hardship :)

MoonRise by LTyrosine 2012-12-18T22:33:00

The controls were... very interesting. I suppose not capturing the mouse but using it as a kind of head movement was cool, but in practice it just felt odd.

Ran just fine though it was tedious due to the slow movement. I think it has a lot of potential! Keep going with it :D

Valkyrie by mikemacdee 2012-12-19T00:01:00

The fact that you shoot from the gun in the right hand (which I think is really cool, realism yay) you cannot effectively shoot around corners even if the gun is sticking out. Which would have been awesome and intuitive.

Also, props for the DOOM door sounds, I forgot how much I loved those until this game.

Kill The Day! by 2A1S 2012-12-19T00:37:00

Very difficult game! Could have used some more of an easy introduction, I felt disheartened when I failed so many times on the first scene xD

Also, I don't think having a download link on a site counts as a "web" link, that's more for games you can play with in a browser.

You Villain by CNIAngel 2012-12-19T00:45:00

loren took the words right out of my mouth, I had to press that first choice. Epic end.

The writing was fun, but it was a bit short (or it feels that way because there are so many branches). Good work! Hope you expand upon it :D

Dust by Keevor 2012-12-19T00:54:00

The sandbox was great! Glad you kept it, but yeah, most of the game was simply the tutorial, still very cool. You should definitely keep going with it and make some levels! :D

Audio was obnoxious though xD

Mad Professor by AhNinniah 2012-12-19T18:49:00

Fun game! The game itself was a little longer than my browser screen, so there was a bit of scrolling up and down for me to see some stuff happening. It was a fun game though, I liked being having to keep the scientists away while avoiding my own doom. :) great work!

Rhythm Apocalypse by RHY3756547 2012-12-19T00:52:00

It was definitely a cool and interesting game. A bit hard to get the hang out of at first, but nice to play anyways. :) The 30-second waiting screen was a bit obnoxious and I had to click away to avoid looking at it. Otherwise the game looked awesome! Great job!

Hat by N427 2012-12-29T08:25:00

Very, very well done. I thoroughly enjoyed the narrative as well as the method in which it unfolded. At each step I wanted to be able to do something other than let James ruin his life even more... but alas, it is not my place to make such choices. I could have closed the window, but I didn't. I decided to let James' choices unfold. The poor devil.

I hope to see more great things like this in the future! :)

Sheep Barbecue by bompo 2012-12-18T23:30:00

Having the space key for the WebGL version is a bad idea, on my screen, which is a modest 900px tall there is usually no problem, but on anything smaller the window gets a scroll bar. The default function of a space bar in a browser is to scroll down... combine the two and you have the screen scrolling every time you hit spacebar.

Aside from that, it's a bit slow when trying to sneak up to the farm area, but the idea is good. Keep working on it! :D

Holly Jolly Pyromaniac by UndergroundPixel 2012-12-19T18:35:00

Amazing game! I absolutely love the quality of your pixel art, and although I didn't love the music at first, it really grew on me to the point where I adored it. Game was fun, fairly addicting, and having a leaderboard was nice. :) When I was checking it though, I had issues knowing how to go back. I think I pressed z/x a few times so that some stuff started overlaying on top of each other and the game started again. Not really a big issue, I didn't count it against your rating but I thought you should know! Amazing work!

Double DeConstruction by Goodlookinguy 2012-12-18T23:09:00

The difficulty felt really against me, too many things flying around + people + spawn rate + the knock-back from the a hit combined to make the game extraordinarily difficult.

Very pretty game though, but I sure did fail a lot!

Namcap: Reverse Pacman by caranha 2012-12-29T10:27:00

I thought the Pacman AI was fairly good (mainly because it beat me so often!) and the ghost AI when not being controlled was competent enough. It definitely felt a lot like the original game, with the obvious twist.

Controls were smooth as butter, very well implemented. Switching between ghosts was easy enough once you got the colors mapped to numbers in your head. Though I kind of wish there was some kind of lead-up or story it is what it is.

Very well done! :)

Park to Park by Frozen Fractal 2012-12-30T00:21:00

Awesome game! I remember playing Jezzball a lot as a kid, and this harkens back to that while still applying a lot of originality and pizzazz.

Great use of the theme and a wonderful presentation! :D

Dig-Dug Dungeon by bigbadwofl 2012-12-29T09:55:00

Epic music during load! Really got me pumped to play the game. Despite my not being very good at these kinds of games (Darn you Spacebase DF-9!) I do like playing them.

It was good AI and the things they said were really funny! Great job :)

Unhappy Holidays! by GeorgeBroussard 2012-12-30T01:38:00

Not a huge connection to the theme, but it is a fun romp through to kill those endless hordes.

NONEX by feiss 2012-12-19T06:45:00

Otomata musics~

The game was pretty fun! I've played a few reverse-ship-shooters already but this one was actually very different so kudos on that.

The graphics were cool (and I did read the blog post with the original design which while I do think it's still superior with it's slick diagonals, the procedural ships must have saved you ages in dev-time) and the gameplay is solid if a bit detached, especially with the enemy ships moving in unexpected ways.

I hope you develop this further! :D

Earthmination by Dreauw 2012-12-23T11:14:00

Classic gameplay. :) It's a little slow and repetitive at first. The different power ups were a nice addition. My favourite part was beaming up the cows and goats! I feel like that adds a nice touch to the game.

LD26 — Minimalism

Arco by lightspeedlucas 2013-05-05T11:21:00

I am terrible at this game! I think playing rhythm games has taught me to anticipate the actual note by several milliseconds and it is killing me here where you need to do it on or after the visuals indicate.

Still, had a lot of fun playing and enjoyed the Otomata music in the background. Well done!

Super Minimalistic Nuclear Space Potatoes ! by Hatscat 2013-04-30T17:42:00

I am loving the Voxatron-esque graphics. You're right that the game is minimal, but who doesn't enjoy flying through space and shooting lasers?

Great work!

Cube Colors by PabloAlexandre31 2013-05-04T23:18:00

I really enjoyed the tutorial level, with this kind of game it was good to be introduced to the mechanics right off the bat. That being said, I think it would be possible to make different rooms that slowly taught the mechanics instead. Perhaps a post-LD version? :D

The game was really cool, and I loved trying to find the right colors to get through the locked doors. I was kind of sad when I accidentally stumbled into the final room without finishing the rest of the rooms (completionist here!) but it was a fun little end!

Awesome job! Really :)

Tune Locks by Phased 2013-05-08T07:48:00

Reminded me of the old Jetpack games at first which were amazingly enjoyable and the cute and simple graphics work well.

Love the LD26 map! Very fun and clever :)

Stargazers by Cake&Code 2013-05-04T22:08:00

Thanks everyone for all the wonderful feedback! We feel the same way many of you do that we'd love to add more mechanics and more levels but because of the LD time-frame and the theme we just couldn't add any more to the game. We hope to do so in a post-LD version for sure!!

@netguy204: Thank you for the indepth critique! We really appreciate it~

@caranha: We too wanted to add more sounds but we're not the best sound engineers and we kind of ran out of time! If we get some time to make a post-LD version we'll definitely look into something that. Thanks!

@Monxcleyr Productions: We'll be sure to add twists and turns! :)

@Puzzlem00n: Yeah, the tutorial could definitely be more demonstrative than narrative, that would've been a million times more thematical... darn. Thanks for the comment!

@WiseGAMER: Haha, oh no!

@plash: Thanks for the stream of consciousness! Very interesting to see the though process at work :D

@mildmojo: Ahhh, yeah. We didn't consider an actual touch screen having drag controls rather than tap... or a two player experience... we'll keep it in mind for the future!! Thank you~

@Dohan: Nice list! #6 was not meant to be a Minecraft reference but wow, I can definitely tell why you'd think so! It was supposed to be referencing another game that is very much about fire and burning things :)

# by Tim Bumpus 2013-05-04T10:01:00

Smart game, I realized why you named it #! :P It's a nice and challenging game, with some collisions seeming a little off here and there. I liked the color themes though, and the way the blue starts rushing after you as soon as you change colors is great. Nice work!

Gods Will Be Watching by Deconstructeam 2013-05-03T20:57:00

Fantastic game! I was addicted to try to survive the entire 40 days. I don't think the pacing was that slow, and it was very well suited for the type of game this was. The characters have great distinct personalities, and the stress of keeping everyone alive really carried through the game. Loved it a lot, great work. :)

Minimalism Tower Defence by Dew 2013-04-30T17:56:00

Wow, that was surprisingly minimal! It's also not often that I've played a tower defense game that lets you move the structures around without any penalty or restrictions!

The menus takes some getting used to but after a few seconds it was easy to learn. It is interesting that when using roman numerals you chose to skip D, no level 500 eh? xD

Very cool game, well done!

Blurr by Rabbits... 2013-05-08T06:36:00

Really well set atmosphere. Like others have said, some sort of feedback would be nice. I liked the way the tutorial worked through, very fluid with the game.

Vortex Runner by YM 2013-04-30T15:35:00

Great detail work on the game. I loved seeing the flecks of dust on the screen. I liked your wireframes art style too, it really lent to the whole atmosphere of the game. Not especially fond of the sound/sfx. It was kind of jarring on my first crash to hear it so loud and so noisy. Overall great work! :)

Persist by AdventureIslands 2013-05-08T05:51:00

Cute game!! I love the graphics style, and the mood is just amazing. I really enjoyed playing it too, the level designs were smart.

Bear Necessities by itsZN 2013-04-30T17:37:00

It's awesome that you thought long-term and not only added a map editor but an online repository for new levels to be loaded in.

The game itself is pretty fun and I think it definitely deserves some post-LD polishing! Hope you keep working on it :)

Five by tzamora 2013-05-08T06:51:00

Interesting concept! It got a little tedious just clicking everywhere to find that last bit I needed to find. I love their little subliminal messages though, it's like each one has their own personality. :) Great work!

Five by tzamora 2013-05-08T06:53:00

$("div.boxDiv").trigger("mouseenter");

;)

Robot Boogie by Skulls 2013-05-08T06:06:00

Oh man, what a trip it is to play this game! It's been a while since I felt the boogie fever, you certainly brought it back in spades! :D

P27 by hi-scor.es 2013-05-04T23:00:00

A wonderful take on the one-button idea! Love that you can play this game on pretty much any device with any peripheral.

It was a bit slow, but that just helped it be more meditative, so if that was your goal it certainly worked!

This is the kind of game that truly highlights the minimalism theme, excellent job! :)

Squeeps by Ryusui 2013-05-08T07:11:00

I remember playtesting this! :D

Loving the eating mechanics, or overeating mechanics anyways. It's pretty clever to include that kind of realism for balance! Well done

Patty's Perilous Plunder by blearn 2013-05-08T06:44:00

Oh man, this is like a really stripped down version of Skyroads, a game I adore! :)

The music got old really quickly so I just muted it, and the jumping mechanic was a nice addition for some varied gameplay but overall the game needed something more.

Hope you keep developing it post-LD!

S by rodrigomotta 2013-05-04T08:07:00

It's a very lovely game that has interesting game mechanics. I got up to the third tier. I was just kind of running around clicking on things. I sort of understood how to play the game, but I didn't quite understand what I was supposed to do. Very lovely looking, great job!

Z Jumper by Zaelza 2013-04-30T18:07:00

Fun game though I agree with PTSnoop about the red blocks not mattering too much. The visual style is nice if a bit cluttered.

Cool game :)

And Then There Were None by DreamThorn 2013-05-08T06:58:00

I had the same experience as Prudiiarca, but figuring out how everything worked was pretty darn fun!

Amulet Of Zarygar by TuxedoFish 2013-05-04T20:57:00

That intro screen! So much sensory overload, especially for the minimalism theme.

It was fun a for a bit to move around and tackle enemies until they died but there wasn't much more to do, which is what I assume you meant when you said it fell short on content.

I also think the background tile graphics were too detailed and attention drawing, you want to have much more muted backgrounds in 2d game so that it is easy to see the difference between background (non-interactable objects) and foreground (characters, enemies, chests, etc.)

The less controls the better. I noticed that to attack slimes you need only walk to them, so why does talking to npcs require a key press? These are design decisions that you should really think about.

For a 3rd LD, and in 48 hours, well done. Keep on making games! :)

Life & Minimalism by WiseGAMER 2013-04-30T17:11:00

Very cute game. It's an interesting refreshing take on that kind of puzzle game. I like the messages it's trying to send, and the music works really well with the atmosphere. It's great to see a small game send a message like this, everyone can really relate to these messages.

Dropblocks by Doctor Broccoli 2013-05-01T19:19:00

Well, it looks absolutely fantastic and fits really well with the minimalism theme visually.

The gameplay itself was a bit obtuse at first and I got stuck once (thanks for the esc button!) but after a bit it was quite enjoyable. Good job :)

Rollin' it by Loyalty 2013-05-01T19:06:00

Ah! R being restart helps a lot :D
It's an interesting idea you've chosen and I thought it was fun. It's hard to do a minimal game because when you stick to core mechanics people always comment that they want more complicated mechanics... which defeats the purpose of a minimal game xD

@Kristofer Parsons: Minimalism in art doesn't mean bad, it means that it's stripped down to only the core essentials needed to convey an idea. It is a lot harder to be minimal than it is to be unrestrained or bad.

Mini Epic Adventure by frogmaster 2013-05-04T22:24:00

Hmm, took a bit of getting used to and I'm still not quite sure what I actually accomplished or failed to accomplish while playing. I got some red areas, some dark blue, some light blue, and then just a bunch of moving around.

I did notice that on the title screen (the pulsating white pixels) if I pressed esc the game would crash but while in-game there was no way to quit.

All in all, an interesting experiment!

Misshapen by Aaants 2013-05-04T09:38:00

Cute game with really nice graphics. I love the way the transitions worked and the narration was charming. It somewhat reminded me of Thomas Was Alone. I wasn't sure what there was to the game other than clicking and (maybe?) clicking to the beat of the pulse. It has great potential though, and you did great for your first LD!

Outside the Box by GSM Productions 2013-05-06T09:27:00

I had the same crash as KHANanaphone when trying to re-enter what I thought was the town after leaving through the hole.

The story was rather enticing, and reminiscent of Asimov's The Gods Themselves story, which is great because it pulled me along. The combat was good but it was weird to have my position reset after each battle, was that on purpose?

All in all, great work! I would love to see more :)

Minimal by MegaBrutal 2013-05-06T09:24:00

I don't know what you mean when you say it might not be in the spirit of LD, this kind of thing is exactly what makes LD such a great competition, this is totally a successful entry!

Having worked very limitedly in ASM before, I am damn impressed you decided to use it for an LD entry. I wish there was more to the game itself but if you do continue to work on it I think that'd be amazing!

If you ever need some inspiration, Roller Coaster Tycoon was written mostly in ASM. Which still blows my mind! :D

Pieces by Husky 2013-05-08T06:00:00

Such a smart game! I love the idea of adding and subtracting, and I love the way you approached the theme. It took me a little while to completely wrap my head around the game mechanics, since the Umbrella + Cat stage got a little complex. Great work. :)

DownGrade by barkergames 2013-05-08T05:46:00

That was pretty darn difficult but a ton of addictive fun :D

The sound effects were obnoxious at first, and the whole way through really. Definitely the weakest point of the game. I also sometimes clicked outside the window when trying to aim down really quickly, confining the mouse to the window would have helped.

The level design was challenging, especially with the very stiff controls, but it was hard in a good way. Kept me trying to get better at it, trying to master it. Having to downgrade a component was really cool, if a bit of a nail-biter decision (which is good!).

Holding down shift and having the power drain while not doing anything was a tad annoying but I got used to it pretty quickly.

All in all, great game! I think you've got something really cool here and you should definitely keep polishing it! :)

Out of darkness by Harsay 2013-04-30T17:30:00

Amazingly realized! I was hoping people would make games like this because it's awesome to traverse a world that you basically have to create with your own imagination.

Awesome job!

Desire by burtlo 2013-05-08T05:51:00

Looks fantastic all around! The mood, the interaction, the music... it's all so perfectly blended together. I wish there were more than just a single quote that showed when you lose but hey, that's just my desire ;)

Galaxaloid by lando walters 2013-05-08T05:33:00

Didn't manage to last very long but it certainly was fun while it lasted! I tried to restart the game once I lost but there doesn't seem to be a key for that xD

Very nice little game! :)

KeyBall by ryan0788 2013-05-08T07:06:00

Oh wow this is so difficult! I wish I could get this going with multiplayer to go head-to-head against some friends :)

It was a real challenge to keep track of the ball and then figure out which section of the keyboard it would go towards.

Any reason the virtual keyboard is sideways rather than horizontally? Is that just to make visualizing it harder? Or simply because pong works that way and you just inherited that setup?

Frame Aim by Symmeteer 2013-05-08T06:13:00

I wish there were more levels! Oh, what's this... made in 2 hours?? Nicely done :)

Thank you for making a post-compo version! It is fun to try and nail the target in the fewest bounces. Add a few more mechanics (like a laser that splits the ball + 2 exits, or a magnet that attracts the ball, or a dead zone where the ball will get stuck, or... LOTS OF STUFF) and you'd have yourself a fully fledged game!!

Beat your last score by jimmiebergmann 2013-05-08T07:17:00

Aha! Finally figured out that you _can_ movie forwards and backwards. The lack of a background made it really hard to tell that you can indeed move through space.

Really challenging game but fun once you figure it out. Didn't manage to get all the colors, got to the last one then went out of range into the red.

Lots of fun! :)

Mingineer by sockfolder 2013-05-04T19:02:00

As others have said, a really cool implementation of Conway's Game of Life! I've certainly never been a character caught up in the midst of the craziness.

I built up a diagonal staircase to see what might lie beyond the veil, turn out there's just more building areas! I was hoping to maybe run into another Mingineer like myself :)

Fun little sandbox, hope you develop it further!

Spauneure by Jilt 2013-05-08T06:56:00

I agree with badlydrawnrod, needs some musical accompaniment to get the mood just perfect :)

Squared by Shorefire 2013-05-08T07:31:00

Awwww man, adding inertia to a game like this definitely makes it 10x more hardcore of a game... having to counteract that acceleration to stop yourself is quite the challenge!

Very smart, and very well executed. It was interesting to see I could wrap around the level vertically, sure saved my skin a few times :)

Linewalker by jcmoyer 2013-05-08T07:36:00

Been playing much Thomas was Alone? :)

It started off straightforward enough, but once you hit that area with the triangle enemies the game becomes much, much more difficult which is good. Also, very well done with the mechanics! You managed to keep it fresh and new without adding new controls for the player!

Save Shape Land! by Saisaith 2013-05-08T07:39:00

Hehehe, after I died once I was invincible! After I discovered my new-found power I rammed into everything I could head-first!

Unpixelation! by aspic 2013-05-08T07:44:00

Totally agree with Tyro, hope the first LD was a good one! Nice little game you've started, hope you add more to it! :)

Escape the Tower by Back to Browse Entries 2013-05-08T07:41:00

If I had the time I would totally dig up my old GBA homebrew cart and play this on a physical GBA, but the emulator will have to do for now :)

Great work! Props for different tech

Rect by Esenti 2013-05-04T23:10:00

Haha, that was really cool. I love the level upgrades being a temporary thing but I agree with ignifluous that perhaps respawning the coins after a long time or at least a pop-up box saying "You can no longer complete the level, try again?" and then restarting the level would be nice. I wandered aimlessly in the second level before realizing that I would not be able to beat it.

All in all though, very clever design! :)

TOOM by PoV 2013-05-02T19:17:00

Great looking game, and the little things i found were entertaining. The pacing is slow though, and I got a little clicking on everything and hoping for things to happen.

Brutaliz'Art LD26 by lotusgame 2013-05-08T06:12:00

Really clever and funny game! I love the idea of it, smashing other LD'ers games. The powerups kept it interesting, and it was fun to be able to smash all the games. I wish the difficulty was bumped up a notch. It was fun for a while, but it was far from difficult until I played for a really really long time.

Plex by Neonlare 2013-05-08T05:56:00

Loved the music to this game! It really set the atmosphere and pacing for it. The levels you designed were smart, and I liked the whole premise of it. It was fun! I just wish WASD controls worked as well, and levels automatically moved forward upon success.

Y&P by tobbez 2013-05-08T05:37:00

I wish you had given the folder a more unique name, you have no idea how many entries have unzipped to the same ld26 folder and it's a mess to untangle them xD

The game itself is alright. I too wish the player position didn't randomize but it makes sense to not give any kind of advantage before the turn begins. Only managed to get 23, but the game told me I was the best! :D

Dragon Drop by Tom 7 2013-05-08T06:40:00

Really cool! I didn't notice that you could min the window. :) The solitaire was tricky and it was an interesting take on the minimalism theme. Great work!

Dark Black by Purplescape 2013-04-30T18:15:00

Wow, love the look of the game which is really important for adventure games! I agree with the others that the controls were a bit of a challenge to wrestle, but once you get past that it's a really enjoyable experience!

I wish the steps needed for some of the tasks were more obvious, and I know that adventure games often have this... "feature" but it is a bit unruly to have to try stuff until it works for seemingly no reason xD

All in all, really well executed game!

Blind guy Vs Zombies by vrinek 2013-05-04T20:36:00

That was really different! I loved how discovering bits of the level made them permanent additions to the visual field despite going out of range. I wish there were more levels and more mechanics but it's understandable given the time constraints and the minimalism theme.

Oh and the directions on the left say you need to get 4 keys but it seemed like I only needed 3 before I could escape in the elevator ;)

TOO MANY DISTRACTIONS by kbm 2013-05-01T00:23:00

I actually played this while I was supposed to be doing work. It was a fantastic distraction. Also super funny, two people were watching me play and we all died. :) Looks very pretty, great job!

Cells by anatolat 2013-04-30T18:24:00

That was really fun! I love simple games like this so I guess minimalism has worked in your favor :)

Glad to hear it was your first LD, hope you keep on participating and had fun!

EmotimCrawl by Tamik 2013-04-30T19:07:00

Compo or not, you finished your first Ludum Dare! Congratulations :D

I know what you mean about writing collision code... oh man is it rough in such a limited time window. At least you saved time by making a such a simple level generator, also lets us make our own levels pretty easily!

I hope you come back for the next Ludum Dare!

Myrne 6312 by Beldarak 2013-04-30T17:33:00

I'd never even heard of AZERTY layouts before this! Something to keep in mind for the future.

I, like allinlabs, was only able to play the game alone but it was really cool anyways! I can't wait to get a friend in on the action with me :)

NinjaFlare by 8BitPimp 2013-05-04T09:23:00

Great mood and graphics. Wish you could have run and slashed at the same time, that would have given me a lot more incentive to do more than just jump over the enemies. Great work!

Game of Rows by Zim the Fox 2013-05-04T22:12:00

Very, VERY, clever little game! Harkened back to the early dos/win32 games of yore. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most effective and I think that applies here.

I really enjoyed the level where the treasure was above, it was a smart design that forced a whole new way of playing the level without changing or adding any new gameplay rules. It's things like this kind of progression that is admirable in a game's design.

Thanks for a fun little game! :D

Bong Out Wars by Eternal_Rest 2013-05-08T07:51:00

Oh wow, I'm actually surprised that genre/gameplay fusions happened at all because of the minimalism theme, which would normally mean stripping parts away and not putting two different parts together xD

Overall it's a pretty zany game but quite fun! Well done! :D

QbQbQb by rezoner 2013-05-04T09:03:00

Great mood accompanied with great visuals and audio. I thought the gameplay was fun, but slow due to the fact that there was so much wiggle room to not fail. I found myself getting a little bored at using minimal effort to just twist my planet around to not match any colors.

Shape of magic by Back to Browse Entries 2013-05-04T22:31:00

It may not be a game, but it's got a pretty relaxing experience going on that's quite nice.

Now that LD is over you might try to add gameplay elements to this and it could actually be really engaging. Perhaps add enemy blocks that are filling up the other empty areas with gray and you need to fill them with color as fast as possible to gain dominance? Maybe look at JezzBall and see if any of those gameplay elements would work here? You could also add limited pigment and the player is rewarded for filling up squares with points dealt out by surface area completed? That way you could balance them choosing small one always by rewarding more for bigger areas.... who knows. The possibilities are endless!!

Great job :)

Zephyr by joe40001 2013-05-08T06:23:00

The controls were pretty wonky, and it took me a little time to get used to them. I also wasn't sure what I was doing, so a more explicit tutorial would help. Great music and atmosphere though!

8 jumps and a fat man by Exclamation Mark 2013-05-05T09:38:00

Despite the audio being a bit loud and annoying, it was really addictively fun! But alas, I should have kept it simple xD

WORDHUNTER by gerritg 2013-05-04T22:56:00

What an incredibly simple yet effective idea! Crossover shoot-em-up with a word spelling game? Wow. So simple, so awesome.

As other have said, it was generally pretty difficult to actually string real words together but that just made it all the more satisfying when it happened!

Would love to see this get more developed! :D

WORDHUNTER by gerritg 2013-05-04T23:04:00

Oh! As an addition to the previous comment. It would be nice if the frequencies of the letters matched the language more. You can easily find such data: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letter_frequency#Relative_frequencies_of_letters_in_the_English_language

I think it would make the game a lot more fun to play!

Return Home by Manuel777 2013-05-01T00:26:00

I was a little frustrated by the wobbly controls. I sort of lost interest in playing on after a while. But I think you established a nice sense of mood through the graphics.

BFFPP(best friends forever pew pew) by Goodeats 2013-05-08T07:24:00

If only the game had a for more game-y element like a time counter, point counter, etc. I would feel more invested in spending time avoiding the dangers. As it stands now it's more of a poetic toy, which is still pretty cool :)

The visual style is excellent and I hope you keep developing it!

Right Side of the Road by ethankennerly 2013-05-08T06:09:00

Amazing use of the road signs! Definitely minimal and resourceful :)

The speed up was awesome, felt like I was crushing other cars at hundreds of kph! Very fun!

Path Breaker by kyru 2013-04-30T18:57:00

That was a lot of fun! A surprisingly simple concept yet it was executed wonderfully. Well done :)

Dream Fishing by Sophie Houlden 2013-05-04T08:17:00

Really cute game. It's lovely, and the messages from the fish were both endearing and humorous. I love the audio for the game in particular! It works with the atmosphere of the game, very light but sort of light hearted and whimsical as well. My only complaint was that the controls were a bit strange for me since I'm using a touchpad. It took me a few days to find my mouse in order to properly play it. I don't think I saw a keyboard equivalent, but that would've been nice.

Black vs. White by lathomas64 2013-05-08T05:58:00

Haha! I finally stopped them all! But at what cost?! D:

Well, it took me a few minutes time and some furious clicking. Not too high a price to pay at all! Fun little game, very... very minimalist! :)

Balls Balls Balls by matthias_zarzecki 2013-05-08T07:08:00

Great game! I had a lot of fun playing it, and the puzzles and obstacles you added in were great. I think I broke one of the levels with the arrows pointing to the right. I had it bouncing up and down so fast, it spiraled off the canvas and never came back hahaha. I won't count it towards the rating, but I thought it was pretty funny. Great work!

Dock Zone by Farfin 2013-04-30T15:29:00

Really enjoyed the game! The levels got hard and intriguing very fast. I love that the way the level works really makes you consider whether or not getting far-off pyramids were worth the effort of having to run all the way around, even if you just placed a plank to your boat down.

The sounds were effective and simple. Love your art (as usual) but I thought picking up the planks was a bit clumsy though. Overall, great work!

DHRDR by johnste 2013-05-08T06:39:00

I tried pressing P at the main menu because of the coloration of the first letters in the menu texts only to find I had to use the mouse and click. A hover state or sound blip would help make that more obvious :)

The game itself was really challenging! Even though it's all very realistic in the physics of the simulation, it was hard to predict how strong the grapply-thing would fire. Fun nonetheless!

Essense by Jorjon 2013-05-03T08:53:00

Wow, that was a pretty cool experience if a bit on the challenging side but only because the experience isn't quite guided enough. On the first level I tried a few times to jump diagonally because standing on the front facing tile made the platform I needed to stop on go away. It wasn't until 3 deaths later I decided to look at the light beams and follow them.

Oh, the title screen did have me wondering. The title had the last 'e' in a different color, is there a meaning to that? Essen[s]e

Minimalism shooter by Gemberkoekje 2013-05-06T08:20:00

I have to agree with Bernhard. What you've accomplished in such little time is actually a huge chunk of the work towards a full game.

Just because LD is over doesn't mean the project has to die, I think it'd be awesome if you spent a little more time on this and released a post-LD version with more complete features. If not, no worries :)

Sequence Initiated by mildmojo 2013-05-08T06:18:00

As other have said, wish there were more levels! Also, the entropy level was odd, seemed like I had to wait for randomness to put the energy level at just the right point but it didn't feel intentional, felt... wonky.

Add a few more types of interactions and you could have something like Spaceteam's visceral interactions.

Cave Runner by PhaZ90771 2013-05-06T09:07:00

I nostalgia tripped back to the old TI-83 calculator fast-tunnel games. Very fun idea for this minimalism theme!

The game seemed to run rather smoothly, or at least I didn't have any issues big enough to be noticeable. Well done! :)

Mr. Minimal by sP0CkEr2 2013-05-08T06:28:00

I got to level 15 or so. There didn't seem to be a challenge at first, I had to pull myself forward to keep playing since it wasn't especially challenging in the beginning. It felt like the game sort of finished up despite not getting all the brown squares? It'd make for an interesting puzzle game if you had to get all of them to move forward. Great work though!

Nod by Rose 2013-05-04T08:39:00

Cute game! The pacing was a little slow, so it was a little hard for me to focus on actually playing while she was droning on. I think the nodding mechanic was a really cute take on the theme though, and I think the art you made was great. Wonderful work, Rose! :)

.Dot by sudojess 2013-05-04T22:35:00

The music was a bit loud, but the game was rather fun! The light shafts look was pretty cool too :)

I admit I haven't played many auto-runner games, but I've never seen one with physics built in as part of the experience (except perhaps some of the levels in Limbo with the brain leech). Very clever combination there.

I wish there were more levels!

IN THE minimal NEED OF A POTATO by nicso 2013-05-04T08:56:00

The jumping mechanic was frustrating. I found myself doing the same area over and over again due to how, as others put it, "pixel perfect" it was. (It describes it well, to be honest.) I noticed that the colored areas affected movement and jump, which was fun. That damn blue area though... :P Great work!

Knightly Knight by dsoft20 2013-05-04T08:49:00

The controls were sort of strange and I thought it started off slow since I couldn't find the princess at first. Great job!

Another Day In The Life by QXD-me 2013-05-08T06:43:00

Great little exploration game. :) The mouse controls gave me a bit of a headache from being so fast and sensitive, but I had fun poking around the room.

LD28 — You Only Get One

A Weird Love Game by Dmitrix 2014-01-06T20:09:00

Haha, cute little game. The ending was nice, and it was fun to try my best to run away. Is there any way to avoid that ending? I almost felt like it was inevitable. :P I wonder if that's the life lesson in this game.

Darkest Friday by Cake&Code 2013-12-17T15:28:00

@drnick: At least you've got a piece of history!

Sorry if it's slow for anyone, this is our second time working with HTML5 and the first time using the Phaser library so we're still learning about optimizations and how to cut down on processing waste.

Thanks to everyone who's played it so far, hope you had a good time :)

Darkest Friday by Cake&Code 2013-12-17T17:18:00

@caranha: The font is a bit weird, sorry about that! We had to throw away a ton of silly toy names because they were too hard to read actually (things like Berbie looked like Bebbie). Oh, and clicking on our logo does do something ;)

Bitmo Pirates MMO by josefnpat 2013-12-30T02:01:00

Very interesting, and done in 48 hours? Damn impressive. Well done! :)

Shine by AdventureIslands 2014-01-02T09:40:00

Amazing game!!! I know you always make great ones, but I think this is especially really interesting in game mechanic. I loved juggling the light orb and the character and how these are controlled. Of course the graphics are great, and the music/mood work really well together. :) Great work!

Only One Punch by itsZN 2013-12-30T02:06:00

Haha, my first thought was One-Punch Man. Very fun and simple :)

Only One by TylerC 2013-12-30T02:10:00

Very moody :)

You only get one digit! by drnick 2014-01-06T20:16:00

This is awesome! I love the non traditional approach to "game" for this. The puzzles were super reminiscent of old math puzzles I used to love.

Vega Core by PTSnoop 2013-12-30T02:12:00

Very enjoyable if a bit difficult, felt like it would get wildly more easy or difficult randomly.

laserbug by OddballDave 2013-12-17T16:31:00

I love these kinds of games, and although I can see why you'd avoid putting the full path prediction in this game it would be nice to have the initial path before any bouncing get traced simply because it's hard to see where the beam would go based on a mouse cursor (sorry touchscreens, you're even less accurate!).

Overall I had a lot of fun playing. The first time I did decently well, then I did worse, then I did horrendously, then I did better than the first time using what I'd learned from the mistakes! Awesome :)

One Man Armies by pirate-rob 2013-12-30T02:14:00

Haha, really enjoyable. Loved the use of the theme and it made for really fun gameplay. Had a bit of a tough time at first but it began to make more sense as I went along. Loving the pseudo-3d, looks great! :D

Sweet Beats by Incredible Ape 2014-01-06T18:59:00

LOVE the graphics! It's so whimsical and fun, and like another poster said it reminded me of Earthbound. Really great work! :)

Aggrogate by halogenica 2013-12-30T02:16:00

I am just blown away by this! It looks cool, plays smoothly and is just plain fun. Not enough two player games in most LDs, loved it! :)

Life: The Cynical-Hipster-Tetris Version by Tim Kaldor 2014-01-06T18:51:00

Really interesting game! I love the way the game builds and the story that sort of goes along with it. (Really reminds me of Thomas Was Alone while I was playing :3) Really enjoyed it! Great work!

Super Epic Robot Battles by psychopsam 2013-12-30T02:19:00

One of my classmates at university made a mech game complete with real-life cabin to simulate the feel of it all. This is more impressive considering you made it all in 72 hours! Very fun, love mech simulations. Hopefully someday we'll be driving our own? ;D

Super Rashomon RPG by Tyro 2014-01-06T20:22:00

I lOVE the different perspectives aspect of it. It would be fantastic if you were able to expand on those. Really enjoyed the game, and I think it had a very classic feel to the gameplay and the graphics. Great work!

Wack Only One by TheSnide 2014-01-06T19:03:00

Hahaha, I remember you telling us about how little time you had to make this. That considered, it's a fairly fun little game.

Berathen Jam by Venks 2013-12-17T16:05:00

I agree with Gamelabbers, I couldn't stop until I'd beaten all the different game types. It was really cool to try and figure out how best to beat all of them, like the one where you're supposed to shoot the ship. The first two times I just sat there and took a shot after a second, it was the easiest thing to do but when it came around a third time I was holding the movement buttons and then realized just how hard that level is if you move anywhere or miss that first shot :)

Asteroids:Omega by peacegiverman 2013-12-20T02:26:00

A very cool take on the classic asteroids game, really love the geometry wars look too!

The Gift by CarbonCoder 2013-12-19T16:44:00

That was awesome! I managed to beat Santa on my first go but it was close, I was down to one heart. Really love being able to nudge the gift box with snowballs too, helped me reposition it when it got close to the edges.

Also, I was moving when I defeated Santa but afterwards the game stopped accepting my directional controls although the character kept running in the direction I had been when I won. It was a bit funny and only the most minor of bugs.

Well done!

Luminess by iiechapman 2013-12-20T01:30:00

This is really awesome, I am loving the mechanics and it is a beautiful game! The music and sfx were also very complementary. Well done! :)

ClockTower by fued 2014-01-06T20:47:00

The controls were pretty aggravating and felt unnatural. I liked the dungeon crawling aspect of it, and it was fun otherwise. I think the actual rooms could have different pitfalls or obstacles in the way.

Gasha-power by jprogman 2014-01-06T19:09:00

Nice work! I love the nostalgic platformer feeling with the graphics and the gameplay mechanic. It was pretty laggy on my browser too, so I downloaded the game to play it. Great work for 48 hours :)

When Arthur found love by Kayelgee 2013-12-17T17:04:00

I love love love these kinds of sequence based games! I too was sad when it ended so soon, would love to see more levels and things to interact with. Please keep developing it! :)

Reminds me a lot of a ton of games, but Lightbot in particular: http://armorgames.com/play/6061/light-bot-20

SUPERBLADE by folmerkelly 2013-12-17T00:59:00

Love the graphics and the detail in animation! It was pretty fun to play, although it was also really frustrating at times. I wish that enemies had the same handicaps you did, such as not being able to go on spiked tiles and that we couldn't occupy the same space. Otherwise I had a fun time playing! (Even if I'm awful at it haha)

Doubt by rxi 2013-12-21T22:16:00

Beautiful art and mood! I loved exploring the world you've created and seeing what can be done. I eventually hit the room with 4 doors and wasn't sure what to do from there, but up until the point everything was really well done. Great job!

Hospital Trash by finefin 2014-01-02T09:25:00

Loved the art! It has a great sort of street-graffiti vibe to it and I enjoyed it. That being said I thought the gameplay was alright. The first time I opened up the game, clicking "start" took me to Game Over. I refreshed the page and it was fine. The clicking mechanic was alright, but it felt a bit exhausting for me. Great atmosphere though!

Make Tetrominoes! by Crowbeak 2014-01-06T20:25:00

Really original game! Once you figure it out it's pretty smooth gaming from there. The difficulty never really ramped up for me, or if it did it was extremely subtle.

Doki Doggie by Husky 2014-01-06T19:11:00

Hahaha the game is SUPER cute. I love that aspect of it. It's definitely simple and fits in with the theme nicely.

Batteries Not Included by sockfolder 2013-12-20T02:38:00

That was impressive. I like the mechanic but sometimes it does get a bit tedious. Would love to see more levels!

Backwater Rider by Dyn 2013-12-19T16:00:00

That was pretty cool, it is a simplified version of a planet crawler with only a few key decisions. It felt like I could make any significant progress because I would just run out of fuel and the maze exploring was a bit buggy but overall it was a really fun experience to fly from planet to planet.

I noticed it was taking a while to start up so I watched the network progress, this game is 11mb. But the game itself doesn't have high-poly models with giant textures or anything. Did most of that go towards the music?

The Battle of Infinite Birds by thegoofromspace 2014-01-02T09:42:00

Neat game! I like the idea of only having one bullet and having to catch it to recharge it. The moose controls are a bit strange since he doesn't directly follow you. It gets frustrating here and there, but overall it's a nice game!

Aquila by Anshul Goyal 2013-12-20T03:26:00

I got all the relics but nothing seemed to happen? I ran around and unlocked most of the map but still nothing... at least it was fun and engaging enough to keep me unlocking tiles.

You (Must) Only Get ONE by gre 2013-12-17T16:13:00

Wow, that is really awesome! I played on a laptop but it really deserves to be played on a touchscreen device. It is fun and really challenges the mind. I wish there had been more of an indication of a timer counting down for each round, I didn't see anything that looked like a timer and was surprised on the harder levels when I didn't finish one in time because up until that point I was under the impression that there wasn't a timer at all.

Can't wait to play it on mobile :)

Spacedentist saves the day by StMatn 2013-12-30T01:55:00

That last boss is wicked difficult! I love bullet hell games but damn, that was a minefield, still had a ton of fun, well done! :)

Rude Bear Resurrection by Alex Rose 2013-12-20T01:54:00

This is absolutely incredible O.O

I love the coopetition you've got going here and the physical corpses that can either get in the way or help you survive are great. Very well planned out and realized. Also love the characters!

The sidekicks by Ludipe 2013-12-17T15:41:00

Haha, this is pretty cool. The art is fitting and the dialogue is good, although it felt like a really relaxed game while the premise sounds like it'd be tense and high stress.

The first time was lucky and I just sat on the hacking computer while the fireballs mostly missed and I managed to win with around 20% health, while never touching any other controls.

This reminds us a lot of a game called Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime which was a GDC/PAX favorite of ours: http://www.asteroidbase.com/dangerous-spacetime/

Byte's Socks by drkrunk 2013-12-17T16:36:00

Sometimes it felt weird when the socks got dirtier by jumping through the air but overall it had enough challenge and was silly enough to be entertaining and fun. Plus, robots. No more need be said.

My Champion by jacklehamster 2014-01-06T19:13:00

Hahaha, love the inspiration. ;) The game was pretty hard for me since my perspective was to just try to shoot it into the goal (sports is not my thing...) but after much perseverance I was able to manage ONE goal! Felt good, even though I still lost. :) Great work!

Flight 1413 by awesomeusername 2013-12-30T01:42:00

Wow, that was actually really fun! First try I did not get it and burst into flames when touching a fuel can. The next few times I did a lot better. What a simple yet interesting mechanic, very well executed! Nice job :D

Escape Of The Red Gem by 97PercentAwesome 2013-12-18T17:05:00

Despite the movement overall being a bit slow, I've never played a game with this kind of control. It actually felt pretty cool to go off a ledge and then fly up later on to reach a ledge far off or to tap the fly button and hover at a fixed height.

Incredibly rewarding game. Well done!

One Strike by tiopalada 2013-12-17T16:39:00

The response to my pressing Z felt a bit delayed which made me wonder if I'd gotten it within the time boundaries which is awesome because it adds to the tension of the big reveal after the slicing. It is also a gorgeous game. Very well done!

Also, I don't mean to be a grammar nazi but "Strike as they raise* their blades."

Starbeard: The Curse of the Space Whales by Those 30 Ninjas 2013-12-17T17:12:00

Amazingly well-designed concept, I love that once you've shot the harpoon you get shields to defend yourself. The movement is drifty but I'll forgive that since it is supposed to be space.

This definitely needs some polish and post-LD work! It would be a lot of fun as a fully realized game.

Fishbowl by auto_suggestion 2014-01-02T09:19:00

Interesting game! I lost on the first playthrough since I neglected door and went straight for the money (wonder what that says about me :P) but after that I picked up on the pacing of the game where I explored everything before I engaged on the cages. It was brief, but I think you did a great job for your first LD! :) (You should totally do a post-mortem for GameCraft ;D)

Candy Runner by AtomicVikings 2014-01-06T19:01:00

Great work!!! I love the visuals (although some of the font choices threw me off a bit). The game mechanic was a bit confusing at first, but once I got the hang of it, it was really fun and I enjoyed going through it. Jumping was a tadddd bit strange for me, but nothing that really hindered my ability to enjoy the game.

You Only Get Hitbox One by eskivor 2014-01-06T19:07:00

It's a pretty funny game, and the graphics really added to that. It got repetitive sort of fast, and I think changing up a few aspects of it would make it more fresh.

Wild Growth by Moosefly 2014-01-06T18:53:00

I found it a bit difficult too. I felt a bit overwhelmed, and thought the learning curve to ease into the game could be a bit more gentle. Nice graphics, it's got a nice whimsical aspect to it. :)

Creator Story Saga Tycoon by Bruno Massa 2014-01-06T19:19:00

Not entirely sure how it relates to the theme, but it really is quite addicting!!! I think the choice to put it on android is smart, since this game (with a little bit more polish) could really be the next addictive mobile game. :) Great work!

Impoverished Starfighter by danbo 2013-12-19T16:25:00

I love me some ship shooters so this was a definite treat! It was difficult but more than that it suffers from a problem that bullet hell games needs to be very careful about: I didn't know what my hit area was. Without being able to easily tell the game becomes a lot more difficult.

Also, it would be nice to have some feedback that my bullets are doing damage to those enemies that take several hits, sometimes I was about to give up shooting them (under the assumption that they might be invincible) right before they exploded and proved they were killable.

As a whole though, the $1 limit was funny and I enjoyed flying between bullets and learning what enemy ships did what and how to best fight that new type. Great work!

Single-Shot Space Hero: Adventures Through Time and Space; Encounters With The Green Worms of the Edgeworth-Kuiper Belt Planetoid Quaoar by mutilator 2014-01-06T20:28:00

The idea of one bullet is good, but it seemed a lot more easy to play and rewarding to just dodge the bullets coming at you. Every time I actually tried to shoot, I was just lousy at the game. :P Great work!

Cure the infected! by archaeometrician 2014-01-06T19:17:00

The game really spooked me out. xD I liked the game, although the physics was a bit off for me and the game got really difficult out of no where. The idea is good though, and the audio was nice. Good work!

YOGO Submarines by lilinx 2013-12-19T16:39:00

Despite the audio getting annoying after a while the game itself and the idea are really awesome. Well done!

--- by Zephyr Raine 2014-01-06T20:01:00

HILARIOUS game! I love the choices, and the fact you named this game Boolean Tale makes it even more fun. I liked the interactive story and it was really immersive. Great work!

soulmate by syl 2013-12-18T16:56:00

As others have said, the floaty controls were a bit unexpected since platformers usually have more tight controls. But unlike the others, I think it would be more interesting if you found a way to make the sliding part of the game. Since this is a heart it would be funny if it rolled to a stop when on the ground.

Also, the screen shaking when on the last bit of health (while very interesting visually) is just adding insult to injury. Kicking people when they're down only works if you've set up the mood to have it be expected.

One Arrow Guy by Oli 2013-12-20T02:01:00

Targeting was a bit difficult because I never knew what I was aiming at when my cursor moved around but the game itself was surprisingly fun and challenging.

Earth by george_prosser 2013-12-30T01:48:00

Wow, this got difficult very quickly! It was manageable until there were literally 30 asteroids on screen simultaneously. Still pretty fun, the arrow keys were both intuitive and extremely unintuitive depending on which side of the planet you were on. I like that you can shoot the planet yourself, definitely one of the first things I tried :)

You Only Die Once by Arkrothe 2014-01-06T19:50:00

Really well established mood. I generally like text adventures, so I enjoyed going through this and getting immersed.

I wandered around for a while, but there was nothing else to do. I started to make my way to x:0, y:0 but it was going to take too long and I figured there wouldn't be anything there either.

Only one bullet/rectangle thing. by ob6160 2013-12-17T16:23:00

The weird angles made for some serious thinking before taking a shot, the only problem I have is that the position of the mouse cursor and the direction of the shot are different.

Overall, I did keep going back and retrying levels because I got hooked on finishing the game. That is the sign of a good game :)

Park King by Chris Mondok 2013-12-20T02:10:00

Had no idea what I was doing at first, the tutorial should really highlight areas and point to things instead of just using text, or at the very least show the playe what they're supposed to do. When I started understanding the mechanics then it got really fun! You need to find a better way to explain it and you'll be golden :)

Dan the Newspaper by poingferret 2014-01-02T09:45:00

Very strange game lol. It was an enjoyable Choose Your Own Adventure type scenario, with a lot of really surreal things happening.

One Arrow by 7elephants 2014-01-02T09:30:00

Really beautiful game! I thought the game mechanic grew a little old after a few waves. The enemies weren't especially challenging, where the main difficulty was in finding ways to shoot at the enemies. But it's a really great idea, and I loved the idea of having only one arrow to shoot at enemies.

Hose Before Bros by Gamelabbers 2013-12-17T15:54:00

Co-opetition is always fun because no matter the game you're forced to compete against friends who'll make it fun.

That being said, you all have managed to create a wonderful platform for a co-opetition. The dynamic of having to sacrifice carrying the woman to safety to put out a fire and advance towards the exit is brilliant. It gives enough chances for skirmishes between who grabs her first without going too early. If anyone gets too eager and picks her up too quickly there will still be a fire ahead and they'll take damage trying to get through, brilliant!

Wonderful game! From concept to the fitting art style, to the humorous touches, it all comes together into a great experience.

Javel-ein by managore 2014-01-06T20:33:00

Great work!! The game mechanic is nice, and I think the graphics really work together well to establish a clear mood and direction for the game. Controls are really fluid and it's very polished. Great work on the game!!

Going Around by daredevildave 2014-01-06T20:19:00

Great adventure game! I had fun figuring out how to get her out. I played a lot of these real life escape games, so I was pretty addicted to getting Ann out. :)

One Take by Sheepolution 2014-01-06T18:56:00

I was really looking forward to playing this! (So glad I finally got around to it :P) It was just as fun as I expected it to be, and I really love the mechanic and idea around it. I sort of agree with others in that it is loosely based off of the theme since you're taking multiple shots (but yes, one chance per criteria!), but I still loved it a lot either way. It was wonderful! Great work!

SCUMBAG by Avant-Marde 2014-01-06T20:41:00

Really dark game. I was a bit down after I played it, but I think that's a testament to the mood and emotions you got out of the player with your game. I sort of agree with others that the audio was a bit grating.

You Only Get One Worker by Myyyvothrr 2013-12-18T11:01:00

Hahaha, that's pretty clever. The only other time I've had only one worker would be Terraria/Starbound and there the progression is a lot faster.

Couldn't find any bugs but it was tragic that it felt almost impossible to meet the king's first request, had to make up for it by never missing another one again :)

Very clever take on the theme!

Fantastic Franklin by Stealth 2013-12-19T16:14:00

Hmm, doesn't seem to run properly on my computer. It looks like I can see the game screen twice in an already small window, with black and white rectangles beneath those. Am I seeing the double buffering simultaneously? Haha.

In any case, here are my system specs: OSX 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion) running on a MacBook Pro with retina.

Two Options... by GFM 2014-01-06T19:27:00

Really great mood! I liked the graphics quite a bit, although staring at it for prolonged periods of time made all the little lines a bit twitchy for me. (I think it may just be me. :S) The jump precision is a bit precise, and it got frustrating for me to keep trying to clear jumps. But it was nice overall. :)

Make it Count by tSwitch 2014-01-06T18:58:00

Neat use of the theme. I had to give up during the last level too, but everything before that was pretty satisfying. I liked your art direction with this, with the colors and the mood.

Mad One by Tex Killer 2013-12-18T16:50:00

Definitely a funny premise and well executed in the few levels there are. I have to admit you piqued my interest with the haunting last lines, I would love to see how a real clone would play out :)

Once Charged by pighead10 2014-01-06T20:05:00

Super hard game! I liked the challenging aspect of it, and it took quite a while before it got too frustrating. I think it could use a *little* bit of a gentler learning curve to round out the game, but otherwise I think you did well. Good job. :)

ENDLESS NIGHT by dsoft20 2013-12-18T11:10:00

Wow, it was incredibly atmospheric and sometimes felt like I was interacting with other people. Really well done, it seems to capture the feeling of being in space really well :)

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Generic Adventure Game by Jezzamon 2014-05-03T22:09:00

Such a smart and cute game. I love the twist that came up after you were the hero. Totally unexpected, and the game from there just got better and better. Some of the dialogue took a bit long and it would be nice to breeze through a little faster, and the girl's speech font was a bit hard to read. But otherwise I'm super into this game. It's very intelligent!

Senilescape by Xaychru 2014-05-03T18:21:00

That was a lot of fun! I got to the third level where you can choose to go above the surface or beneath ground and while the surface was random change of getting hit by the helicopter it was a lot more fun :)

Jetpack Caverns by Mental Atrophy 2014-05-02T21:48:00

Really great audio! I was impressed with the music, and the graphics were great. The game itself had great tight controls, and I think it would be neat to see it moving forward.

Burrow Down by danbo 2014-04-29T01:18:00

Wow! This is a ton of fun to play! I was using a trackpad so it wasn't ideal but it was still really cool to delve down into the pits of the dungeon. I wasn't brave enough to always choose harder but the powers were really creative (especially that rebounding sword spin thing!).

Awesome game, would love to see more of it :D

Delve by conormn 2014-05-06T04:45:00

"Hmm, it's just a white html page... where's th-OH MY GOD IT'S BEAUTIFUL."

The game is, needless to say, absolutely gorgeous. I loved soaking in the visuals while pushing things out of the way in my quest to find the hidden tunnel to the next colorgasm. I was a bit saddened when I reached and subsequently conquered the pre-simian Andross and revealed the crystal inside. I didn't want to click it for fear that it would end the game, when it did I was glad that the intro screen came up again and allowed me to start the game over.

The searching was fun, the animations and juiciness were spot on, but the length was just too short! Please make more :)

The Sun And Moon by managore 2014-05-03T04:19:00

My favourite game so far! I was pretty thoroughly addicted trying to solve all of the puzzles, and you balanced them so perfectly. They aren't too hard or too easy. It hit the sweet spot of being challenging enough where you get addicted because you know you're *capable* of beating it and you're *close enough*. I really loved it! The only complaint I had was that one of the sfx blips was a lot louder than the others, so I had to turn down my volume to normalize that one blip, but silenced the rest. Otherwise, FANTASTIC!

The Mask of Us by KirbiKaka 2014-05-01T20:48:00

I finally got to play it!! I really loved it, and the way you tutorialed everything was really seamless and nice. Dialogue was really fun to explore and look into, and of course...the ending was great. :)

Damned Scouts! by Lama 2014-05-01T06:10:00

I loved this game! It was simple, fun, and really engaging. The art and music were spot on, and I had so much fun figuring out how to kill off all the kids.

Please Come Back by PapyPilgrim 2014-05-03T21:33:00

Wow, that is pretty incredible, it was a really awesome idea to use the scroll wheel to try and keep a body afloat :)

The Woods by tinyworlds 2014-05-03T21:43:00

Got just the right mood captured! I didn't find a whole lot to do though. I fed the bunny and I didn't feed the bunny. I interacted with the tombstone and I didn't. Got the nature heals text every time. I wish there were more to do!

Trapped by spacechase0 2014-05-02T23:41:00

Neat looking game! It had a nice dark look to it, and I had a pretty good time playing. Like others said, the balancing could use a bit of work and tweaking. I was able to stack most of my points into strength with a bit into agility (just so I could get around faster) and had no trouble going through the game. But it's a nice little game and was straight forward to control. Sort of Hotline Miami-ish! :)

Super Drill Defense+TM by PIXEL^3 2014-05-03T21:40:00

Pretty neat game. The controls feels a little difficult to maneuver, especially since it does a lot of seemingly extra flips and spins. But I like the concept, and overall it was pretty fun to play! Good job!

The Sea Has No Claim by dukope 2014-05-04T21:25:00

That was very tough and definitely gives me a new perspective on just how impossibly difficult it is to locate anything in the ocean. Especially something as relatively small as a plane in a massively huge body of water.

Very well planned out game! :)

Ursa Miner by drstik 2014-05-05T01:52:00

Brutally difficult is an understatement, it takes extreme patience and self control to keep the ship from crashing into an asteroid and it takes even more discipline to collect minerals/gemstones.

I think the controls were too challenging. If the aim was to go for realism, then why is there no momentum? What frictional force is slowing them down? I do like the fact that forward and backward reverse the direction that the player needs to change the direction they turn to go in the direction they want. I think if the acceleration was tied directly to the state of the keys it would be a lot more fun but that's just my two cents.

Awesome concept and really nice polish on this one :)

Carnival Warfare by pinkmonkeyhead 2014-05-03T03:33:00

SUCH a cute game! I really enjoyed playing it and sprinting around to make the sales cut. I love the art and the game play idea! It's a bit loosey-goosey on the theme, but I personally don't think that's a big deal. It's ultimately a fun game and I enjoyed the rush from it. :D

Agent Thursday by cageinabird 2014-05-04T10:14:00

I think it took too long to get from the intro to the actual action and there was a bit too much dialogue that took too long but the game itself has real potential, I'd love to see it get an even more post-post-compo version!

Arctic Desert by BenW 2014-04-30T18:59:00

The controls to move and shoot were a little clumsy for me, and I wasn't sure what I was looking for. Like I wasn't sure if I should be looking at the blue circles or trying to hear some sort of indicator for something. I got swarmed at some point, but I have to admit it was pretty satisfying to watch those octopi die and loot them. :)

PCB Racer by ezolotko 2014-05-03T16:38:00

The idea for the game is good and the visuals of being beneath the surface of some technological gadget was pretty cool. I did have some mechanical troubles though.

The timer should have started after the player pressed a key, not immediately after the level loads. Some of the collisions were also far too unpredictable, like on the second level right at the start there is a hard right turn around some component but the hit box spans halfway into the track.

Very fitting music though, and it didn't get annoying :)

PCB Racer by ezolotko 2014-05-04T10:16:00

That sounds awesome! Glad to hear you're still working on it and good luck with the porting :D

Artifact Hunter by starfeesh 2014-04-29T19:26:00

Sort of a slow starting game. The game itself was huge and didn't fit in my window properly, so I struggled a bit to make sure I wasn't missing some sort of vital information off the edges of my browser. The game itself was difficult, but interesting. I like resource management games. I would suggest making the tutorial more integrated into gameplay perhaps? I forgot a lot of the stuff that it tried to teach me pretty quickly. XD

Heaving of the Depths by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2014-05-03T03:52:00

Beautiful graphics as always!!! :) I enjoyed sailing around and exploring the area. I wasn't 100% sure what I was doing or in what order I should do things, since I got my butt kicked A LOT. The first time I played I kept losing all my battles and didnt know what to do with my coins since I only had 2 chests full, but I figured out what to do the second time around. Great job <3

Tell Me About Your Childhood As A Nervous Goldfish by garygreen 2014-05-05T01:36:00

Hmmm, I don't know exactly what just happened, but I did find out that when playing with a mouse controlled game it is possible to move it fast enough to pass through enemies and obstacles. If you do more interpolating or restrict the mouse you can really cut down on these cheats but it's just a remnant of the input device.

SWIM HARD by Spierek 2014-04-29T17:01:00

Not super tied to the theme, but I really like these kinds of games where you coordinate button presses. I was a bit clumsy picking up on the effect of the two buttons at first, but slowly got better! Like others said, wish there was an AI to work with since I didn't have anyone around at the moment to play with. But it was fun to pretend that my two hands were two people! :P

Wormhunter by Thorig 2014-05-04T21:35:00

It was fun to hunt the worm but it was too simplistic AI and was very easy to beat. Do the sandstorms do anything? I alway just continued to fight as usual and it just went away when I killed the worm.

The graphics and controls were spot on though, very nice job :)

Beneath the Surf-Ace by FatJoe 2014-04-29T19:13:00

Great audio! I really thought it fit well with the mood of the game. I also think the rings give very little purpose, since I had enough fun just trying to get as far as possible without screwing up. :P the motions of the dolphin with the rider feels really good. My one little critique is that the game window is pretty big, which made me feel like the rings would mean a little more to me if I could see them coming up. Overall, great work! I had fun playing it :D

Fragment by rxi 2014-05-03T09:22:00

The music is really good, and I think it looks really well composed and has a good simple art direction. I wasn't really sure what I was doing, as I kept cruising around and seeing nothing. From other comments there were other text boxes, so I guess I'm out to search for them! After trying two times, I ran into nothing!

Read Between the Tropes by Crowbeak 2014-04-30T09:42:00

Funny game!! Playing the different tropes was engaging. I'm typically not super great with text-heavy games, but this was especially fun to jump into :D

Skin by AxeTheory 2014-05-04T19:14:00

That was really hard, but really fun! I love that you can turn the people into zombies by leaving their husks. Very cool :)

Insane Grandpa by jahlgren 2014-05-06T01:49:00

I thought it was great overall! 666 was definitely really difficult. Especially since you die in one hit and the monster's reaction time to your proximity was insanely fast. I would be able to sneak in a hit by jumping, and by the time I landed it swipes me to death. XD It's a good game, and great in simplicity, but the difficulty was very high.

SubChase by theplotlessplot 2014-04-29T03:53:00

The randomness sometimes made the first steps impossible when there's be a really deep iceberg and a mine right after the gap. I never seemed to be able to get very far! xD

Flash's Cash by aneeslol 2014-05-03T04:43:00

Pretty interesting game! The rising and falling water is a neat mechanic. I wasn't super keen on the way you control your character while it was swimming. When I was trying to stay floating at the top, having to jump around and hear the jump animation all the time was a bit grating. xD But otherwise it's a pretty neat game!

Beneath the Surface by praporomsk 2014-04-29T02:48:00

It looks great but I think the character moves too slowly, it is tedious to get anywhere. Maybe I'm just not meant to play this kind of game haha.

The Dwarves Beneath by Typedeaf 2014-04-30T09:45:00

I was able to move and dig for the first round or two, but nothing would happen no matter how much I clicked on the different Dig buttons. I assume both the top and the bottom buttons do the same thing? Either way, it felt sort of unresponsive. Some feedback on what's going on might help. Conceptually it sounds like it has potential though!

Rude Bear Revengeance by Alex Rose 2014-05-05T02:20:00

The visuals were super awesome, the fact that you all managed to get shaders in there is crazy to me, the particle effects and the glowing were really cool. I know how hard it is to get a physics system to work out for a player controlled character so it is great that you managed to hone the controls as much as you did.

The hookshot made me feel as cool as batman, the wall run made me feel as swift as spiderman, and the divekick made me feel as badass as superman. All great choices though all at once it was a bit overwhelming, the tutorial was a welcome addition :)

Village By The Lake by KJScott 2014-04-29T09:17:00

Neat game! I liked the details that went into each world, and the graphics were really well done. I sort of wish the mirrored world had more purpose other than to be a reflection. (I only played partway, so I apologize if this is different much later on.) I also wish giving everyone what they requested had more of an impact.

Infinite Island by Andrew Adams 2014-05-06T01:44:00

Pretty rad game! Nice concept, and I had fun playing. The controls felt a bit stiff, and it took me a while to figure out how to start playing the game. Everytime I pressed "Space", nothing would happen. I soon figured it was because I was selecting the wrong block, but I wasn't really sure how I knew. Otherwise, I think it's lovely and looks great!

Zems Online CCG - Beneath the Sea Edition! by Exeneva 2014-04-30T19:18:00

Nice game! It does defy some conventions of card games, which I really appreciated. The tutorial is long, since it's a meaty part of teaching someone how to play. I would suggest highlighting buttons/areas that the tutorials are referring to so it doesn't seem like text just talking to you. I'm not super great about being patient enough to sit through tutorials, so it took a lot of effort to focus on what it was telling me. (I'm that kind of person that would rather jump in and learn how to play during board games than to sit and be told from the rulebook!) I think it has great potential! Great job! :)

Under Warranty by kidder 2014-04-29T03:20:00

I really love this gameplay style, I just wish there were more things to do! And yes, the font is really hard to read xD

Leak by ashdnazg 2014-05-03T02:07:00

Really interesting game. I like the idea of it, and I enjoyed running around shouting commands. It took me a few times to get the hang of keeping track of all the text feedback. I would consider working the interface more so that the rooms are labeled, or workers give feedback on if they're following your orders or not. While the text/ascii aspect is neat, it sort of overwhelmed me on what I'm doing. It has really great potential though, and the audio was so pleasant hahaha.

Sim Aunt by RobotLovesKitty 2014-04-29T19:07:00

Strange game, and I wasn't sure what to do. I was digging around a lot. It was also hard for me to pick stuff up. I'm on a Mac, so pressing ctrl + arrow moves around to different desktops, so I think you should have bound your actions to different keys. It looks cool though! The graphics are nice :)

Animus Robotis by hitchh1k3r 2014-05-03T21:54:00

I never made it to the fourth level but it was pretty challenging! You've got a good start here, now you just need to add the juiciness: the little visual flourish that makes the world feel alive.

Bellhook by Colorvade 2014-04-30T22:27:00

Pretty nice game! It looks great and handles pretty well. Unfortunately I wasn't sure what I was doing, or what I was fishing for. The little mini game after you catch each fish was fun, but when I first encountered it I thought it was strange and sort of random. But I enjoyed exploring a bit and it was interesting!

Wireside by Solifuge 2014-04-29T04:22:00

That is really cool! I love how you have to go to another world to deactivate parts like doors. Clicking everything got a bit tedious but otherwise it was a lot of fun :D

Get Kraken by McFunkypants 2014-05-05T08:39:00

Pretty nice game! It would be nice if there was a gentle tutorial to explain some of the details like AP usage. Yes I eventually figured it out, but when I was initially moving around, it made me nervous to use AP. xD Pretty good turn based system, although I had a lot of trouble winning. One tentacle felt like it could kill me dead in two hits!

In Too Deep by Toestee 2014-04-29T02:35:00

Really cool game, I also think it could do with being longer!!

I'm confused by one thing though, it looks like you just used construct2 and jquery to power it so why don't you put this on the web? Does it really need the nodewebkit packaging? I'd rather play it online instead of downloading it :)

Extinction by loxo 2014-05-06T04:54:00

As others have already pointed out, you've got a great start here. The mining and building all work and you've got the rudimentary population system going, now all you need is to make the real game part of it :)

Hyper Seed by pedro.thiers 2014-04-29T03:26:00

Super fun! I loved the swapping mechanic and did my best on a trackpad. I especially love how you show the progression when the game ends so you can see the twisting paths along the way.

I'll have to play this on a touchscreen device :)

Aztec by Therrato 2014-04-30T10:10:00

First off, the game is HUGE! It took a while for me to load, and it was too big for my browser. I really enjoyed the fighting aspect, it felt really satisfying to swing the sword and watch their health go down. I wish there was more feedback to my own condition. The first time I died I wasn't even aware I was doing poorly, whether you flash read or turn red, or if there's just a bar. I'd like to think I didnt miss anything because my browser was a bit too small for the game, but a feedback mechanism can really help players know whats going on!

Balancitos by NickZangus 2014-05-05T08:48:00

Beautiful game!!! I love the style and direction you had with this game. I think keyboard bindings would really help improve this game's gameplay, especially to simplify multi-tasking the rotation with the pulling of the weights. Overall amazing game! I had a ton of fun!

Black Bile, Inhuman Circuits by RobotParking 2014-04-29T14:32:00

I was slightly confused by the juxtaposition of outdoor landscapes and internal organs/fluids but it was nevertheless fun to play through the scenarios. Just enough wit to make it entertaining but not so much that it became overbearing.

I also didn't know there would be loud music but when it came on I had to chuckle a little :)

Thought Police by GrooveMan 2014-05-03T17:34:00

That was really awesome! I would love to see the story fleshed out since I was left tantalizingly engrossed in the characters, I was about to bust everyone out of that building. There's a ton of really great foreshadowing with the description of the building being super high tech as well as the city having the best surveillance. This escape is going to be tough!

The characters were cool and the device that reads emotions was very well thought out and well-integrated. The chief's reaction was priceless! :)

Smoldering Star by Mikhail Lyubimov 2014-05-04T18:29:00

Super cool! I loved trying to figure out what the shapes were based on their shadows, this is a pretty interesting way to present the world :D

Sink or Swim by noom 2014-04-29T08:48:00

Interesting and cute game! I liked the concept and racing around to pick up food was enjoyable and simple. It was a bit slow to start though, and tried my patience a bit.

Flooded Mines by Zerkruemler 2014-05-06T05:03:00

The little tutorial screen does not do the rules and mechanics justice, this very much a trial-and-error learning game. The controls and choppy framerate hinder the experience a bit and yet it has a lot of good ideas and it is genuinly fun!

I found myself replaying the game until I could get a few levels further and feel like I'd accomplished something. Very enticing, hope you keep working on it! :)

Neath by metkis 2014-04-29T08:55:00

Amazing! I love the mood you set up for this game through the graphics and background noise. While it is short, I think the ending was a great and perfect way to lead to more future installments of Neath. ;)

The Last Penguin by Pinktreeleaf 2014-05-04T10:09:00

"Bob regains his composer"??

"ONLY a liter of blood spills from the back of his head" (emphasis mine)

At this point I realized it had to be a joke and thoroughly enjoyed reading it all. I especially loved Tyrone's role in the game. To show up, then die immediately xD

Under the loch by jackolondon 2014-04-29T04:31:00

I liked looking for sea monsters but only managed to find the first one in the cave. If the world had more secrets and was more varied it would be a lot more fun to explore, please keep fleshing this out! :)

It Came from Beneath the Surface of the Sea! by JavadocMD 2014-05-05T00:59:00

I agree with JoeProgram, and being able to climb/toggle a skyscraper would have been awesome! Needless to say, it was a fun romp through the city destroying buildings :)

The Fields by ryangatts 2014-05-05T08:55:00

Amazing set up and mood! I loved the art at the beginning, and the bunnies with the style of gameplay made me really care about what happens to each and every one...although it was beneficial to sacrifice a few to get a better sense of the land. Great game overall! It's super cute!

Light Eater by Cawrtz 2014-05-15T00:00:00

I liked the enemies and the different weapons but the control scheme seemed a bit hard to work with. It was impossible to run from an enemy and shoot at it at the same time, which might be the intention but it didn't add to my level of enjoyment of the game.

I did make it to the final boss and vanquished all the minions before finally defeating the boss itself! Huzzah!

Very cool, there were minor slowdowns here and there but overall it was fun and I enjoyed vanquishing my enemies :)

Tiny Haunt by rojo 2014-05-03T22:02:00

If you added some kind of limit to the amount of moves you could use per level, like 2 telepathy moves and 2 explosions or something it would really add a whole new level of fun. Or perhaps a time limit? Achievements for finishing a level with one move?

Great potential here!

Dwarves & Goblins by PlasterPhantom 2014-05-06T04:24:00

Damn, that is a really solid and polished game! It was pretty cool to be moving on the outer side of the world whilst the conflict within was going on. I think the death triggered by fatigue is a bit too unexpected, perhaps slowing the character down a little would make the effect feel more detrimental. As is I thought he would just need to take a little breather and then I'd be able to move again.

The powers were really cool and the enemies were varied enough to be exciting. Amazing amount of work you managed to get done, had a ton of fun playing it :)

Lonely Boy by ApoorvaJ 2014-04-30T09:59:00

The visuals are super cool, and I really like the concept of the game! Sort of reminded me of a vextrex game :D

Bitmite Blitz by Coin Flip Games 2014-04-29T01:25:00

Haha, I love the concept of being inside the tree with other bugs and birds trying to peck their way in. Very fun!

My only critique would be that the tutorial messages got really annoying after a while and interrupted my gameplay experience. I can guess that birds will be evil and I could have easily learned to not step in the sticky goo by stepping in it while no enemies were around.

At the very least an option to disable to disable the messages or "[ ] check this box to disable future messages".

Spring Time Ice Fishing Antero by muumeroinen 2014-05-04T10:39:00

The slippery controls make sense in the context of the ice but it was still really hard to get used to for me. I did love the challenge though! A simple idea executed so well! :D

Daisy's dog is dead by alvarop 2014-04-29T08:41:00

I love the mood of the game. The mix of the graphics, the music, and the gameplay works really well together. I wish I knew what were on the post its before I used them so that I'm not wasting time trying to quickly drag-drop the post its to see what was in them. The music got a little repetitive too. But the rest of it was so well developed, and the story was really neat!

Tick Attack by hanoth 2014-04-30T22:34:00

WOW that really creeped me out hahahah. I was really unsettled by the ticks crawling everywhere. I thought it was pretty fun though! The Web one froze on me, and I think the Flash one was on its way to freezing. On my third attempt I was able to get it! My best wasn't very good, it was 30-something, but I got overwhelmed pretty quickly.

In the Lair of a Basilisk by Korwegian 2014-04-30T09:52:00

Interesting game, and fun mechanics. I enjoyed it, although I didn't really understand the challenge or point of the game. I breezed through the levels pretty easily. It has a lot of potential though! Would be interesting to see some sort of restraint applied so that I would take the time to think about my actions more. Great work!

Dr. LOVE by Cell 2014-05-03T21:58:00

You did a great job working with the audio and graphics for this game. The gameplay was simple and fun, although I wasn't sure what the state of my health was and I sometimes wasn't 100% sure what I was doing except shooting everything in sight.

The Creature Beneath by Otrora Games 2014-04-29T19:16:00

Great graphics and I loved the audio. (Sound effects could use a little smoothing, but the actual music was nice!) The transition when you died was really abrupt and kind of strange. I felt like I had no idea why I died or what was going on because I just shot right back to the beginning. The puzzles themselves are cute, and I think it all ties together very well. Good job!

Lost Cat by dddaaannn 2014-05-04T09:49:00

Haha, that was really cool. I haven't played many terminal games (besides text adventures and BARELY any dwarf fortress) but this was pretty fun! I think if there were more to do it would be even more replayable :)

Atomicle - LostAutumn.net by AutumnGuy 2014-05-03T21:54:00

Really amazing and lovely game. I was able to show this to some of the kids in my game development club and they were super addicted. Of course, I followed suite. :) Wonderful visuals, great and simple gameplay, it is really fantastic!

Square Adventure by MentaL13 2014-05-04T10:43:00

The sticking to walls felt a little odd but the control scheme and physics overall seemed really good. If I died it never felt like it was the game's fault, it felt like i was my own lack of dexterity or quickness. Very cool level designs too!

Take a breath! by SHAME 2014-04-29T03:39:00

The game has really interesting mechanics though I felt like making it harder when you fail just makes it a reinforcing cycle of doing badly and then doing worse because it became harder.

Had a lot of fun trying to beat the clock though!

The Crevice by ZQMony 2014-05-05T00:38:00

It was a cool concept and the level design was pretty good, but the penalty for being hit was too harsh and the homing enemies were too good. I died every time on the third level.

Hope you keep working on it though, it could be a whole lot more fun! :)

Beneath the Mind by PeculiarCarrot 2014-04-29T01:31:00

I had fun playing it, mostly because of the platforming, the enemies were more annoyances than true opponents. I also felt like whenever they appeared on the same vertical level as my character they took a cheap shot and almost always took a heart away.

It has potential though, I hope you keep on polishing it up!

Frack You by Candyhandy 2014-05-07T04:07:00

As others have said, a more fleshed out score/win/lose mechanic would have been nice. I did exactly what Ludipe screenshotted when I noticed that no one cared if I polluted the ground with random pipes.

Still, I felt compelled to keep playing so that's always a good sign! :)

Esc by Crumpet 2014-04-30T19:36:00

Really well done game. I got stuck on some of the later puzzles, which was both challenging and frustrating. I pulled through only because I saw some of the comments mentioning the ending and I really wanted to get all the way there. I might've eased up a bit on the puzzle in order to get people all the way through to the end. But it was a great game, and the message was touching.

Nutrition by jestar_jokin 2014-05-04T19:22:00

Wow, it took several tries to simply fail again, but it was a lot of fun to try and plan a few steps ahead! Very cool idea and good execution :)

Avenge Them! by BoTreats 2014-04-29T14:40:00

I think the core concept is very cool, but the game is yearning for variety! After the first kill it would be nice to see perhaps some of the other patrons realize you are there to kill and try to stop you, or to add some kind of scenario where there is a time limit or something.

It would also be nice if the movement had been smoothed out so that holding a directional button would animate without the start-stop effect. I hope you keep on working to polish this up! :D

Running Blind by Balloonsfor600 2014-05-03T16:32:00

I definitely played it quite a few times to try and get further so you've got the fun factor down. I did feel like dodging the rocks was too hard because it was only a fraction of second of time you'd have before they messed you up. Maybe I'm just not very good at it :)

Ramen Master by RowdyGhosts 2014-04-29T02:26:00

An interesting idea, though the ties to the theme are a bit forced haha.

I was doing pretty horrible before I switched from using a trackpad to using a mouse but then it got interesting. It was till difficult to know if I'd dropped the food in the right spot or not but it was easier than before.

Graveyard by vanmount 2014-04-29T01:12:00

It was fun to go digging down but I didn't find any dangers lurking there so I came back up and won, twice. The idea is cool and exploration is exciting so it has that going for it.

Good job! :)

The Ascent by guimonpa 2014-05-04T10:36:00

For some reason I just couldn't get the mouse sensitivity to a good point and the rocket jump was really strange. It felt like being near a wall provided extra friction that it shouldn't have. I did enjoy the parkour level design though, very cool :)

The Stones Back Home by jrap 2014-05-05T02:00:00

That was really fun! It felt like the jump failed me a few times but it was overall very fair and really challenging. Loved it :D

Minor Incidents by dartsdev 2014-05-05T02:11:00

First of all, you should probably remove the misleading "Web" link, on LD it is taken to mean that your game is playable without downloading it from the browser itself.

The game itself is very jumbled, without a smooth transition between squares it took me a while to realize that my actions were directly correlated with the results. Same goes with the text, it just appeared and vanished almost in sync with the complete screen changing making it very hard to perceive.

Besides these polish points the game was pretty cool, I liked the heat system and the adventure of digging down was very tangible. Hope you keep going with it!

Fishy Buisness by BooleanByte 2014-05-04T19:18:00

I wish there were more to do! I wanted to be able to grab multiple people with one hook, or at least buy a multi-hook upgrade or something :)

Moby Dick 3000 by andyschatz 2014-05-03T21:52:00

Really lovely artwork! I had a ton of fun playing, although I didn't understand the payoff between being in air or being underwater. Since I felt like my projectiles were more effective underwater, I spent most of my time down there instead of in the air. Neat idea though, and I would be interested in seeing this expanded!

Danger mines! by mikhog 2014-04-29T15:33:00

Wow that was stressful, but in a good way. It was fun to try and traverse such a deadly landscape but I must admit that I did not know I would need audio to play the game and spent a few minutes trying to find a key that would activate my mine detector/revealer.

I did stumble upon the i key which hides the markers. It would be good to provide a key bindings reference! I also noticed that clicking the mouse produces a whooshing punch sound? What is that about? :)

Farmer Sam's Grub Grab by cavf88 2014-04-29T02:30:00

More akin to rolling dice or flipping coins than playing a game since there was no way to tell whether a plot would hold a snake or a vegetable :)

God Hunter by iJohnF 2014-04-30T18:56:00

This is really neat! There isn't much strategy, as i was just randomly clicking around the rooms and clearing out levels before moving on, but I had a good time playing it anyways. Originally thought it was some sort of puzzle game based on the screenshots, which might have been interesting to add that as some sort of mechanic later to avoid the "randomness" of it? But overall I liked the sound effects, the graphics, and thought it was pretty innovative!

Infection by InfectionTeam 2014-05-03T17:01:00

I can't believe this was made in 48 hours! That's really awesome. I feel like it would have been better if ammo were unlimited because it always felt like I was buying more ammo and missing out on the cooler upgrades because of it. If ammo were free it would let players delve more into the really cool stuff.

Also, it felt like the aiming was just off, it didn't shoot where I was aiming it shot a little... "above" in the z-dimension or something, since we're looking at a bit of an angle.

FFFFFF... The Game of Corporate Misanthropy by danhett 2014-05-04T19:00:00

Pressing the little red light in the corner spawns more people, I almost crashed my game by spawning in a ton!! :D

FoxyTank by matthias_zarzecki 2014-05-04T21:43:00

The movement felt good but the aiming felt a bit off, maybe the calculation from 2d to 3d perspective was a bit different than what I was expecting.

I managed to get all the parts and make it back to the ship! Most of the time it was best to simply avoid the enemy tanks since they couldn't catch up and got stuck behind rocks.

You should definitely continue adding stuff like more environment variety, maybe some powerups or health recovery items? Different enemies? Camera angle controls, etc.

Overall it was quite fun :)

Dive by quickfingers 2014-05-04T21:28:00

I don't know what it is about seeing somewhere you can't go yet, eventually upgrading, and then finally being able to brave the new areas that is so exciting and rewarding but it was a ton of fun.

Awesome execution too, my only wish is that you could build up more speed when rising from the depth enough to jump over a rock on the surface :D

Army of Gnone by cambrian_era 2014-04-29T02:51:00

The foreground kept disappearing on me when I jumped! Despite that I managed to get some ways into the game. I like the idea of controlling multiple people, it lends itself to puzzle games which are always fun :)

OVER/FISH by Farfin 2014-05-05T09:36:00

Took me a second to read your rules and realize that moving up and down was not controlled by me. The gameplay is pretty clever, but aged a bit poorly once I was a few levels in. The art is amazing as always!

Orbital Burrow by Make A Game 2014-05-04T10:04:00

I really like the visual presentation of the game, and I felt like the choice to display some things as HUD and some things as visual cues worked quite well.

I think that by completely ignoring the dash mechanic you can essentially play forever. I was simply using my four powers to stop the innermost drills and then waiting for the next batch to get close and my powers to recharge. It was working perfectly and then I decided to play around with dashing... needless to say it ruined the tempo I had going and ultimately ended in my losing the game. :)

Whistle by AhNinniah 2014-05-05T09:19:00

Really lovely game. Not sure what I was doing sometimes or where I was supposed to click. I expected the cursor to have some sort of feedback since some cues came up at times, but I felt stuck every so often.

Bunker 29 by Rose 2014-04-29T09:13:00

Cute game! The graphics are nice, and the game was easy to understand. Fairly difficult too.

Persona by GFM 2014-04-30T19:24:00

Amazing! I really liked the way you play the game. The first time I played I got super stressed out that I was making all of the worst choices, and then restarted to do what I thought was right. It was a lot of fun and felt a lot like real life in a way hahahah. Great use of the theme, nice graphics, and just a great game overall. :)

BENEATH the SURFACE by soy_yuma 2014-05-05T00:54:00

HAHA! I managed to beat the original version <3. Very fun, every failure felt like my own failing to be dextrous enough. Very cool visual element too :)

Tunnel Digger: Artifact Man by scgrn 2014-05-05T01:23:00

I stopped when it came time to find 34 artifacts, that is just too many! Overall the game was fun but the times I lost didn't feel like my fault, it was just evil level design. If I fall down a hole and get trapped because I had no idea it was there it feels cheap. Especially when it means I have to start all over.

The Guy Who Fights Underground Monsters by Rusky 2014-04-29T02:42:00

The controls are a bit difficult to get used to and the jumping can be too unforgiving but the punch works pretty darn well :)

Layers by caranha 2014-05-03T22:11:00

The control scheme was a bit weird but it was manageable and after a while it became second nature, I loved Fortix so I welcomed playing this game :)

Beneatha steal pie by howieV (binarygirl) 2014-05-03T16:25:00

The world looks awesome and super moody. Things got tense when I saw that spider come down! Then I just got the pie, very funny :)

LD30 — Connected Worlds

The Octate Worlds by Jogy34 2014-09-16T00:45:00

Really impressive entry! Agree with the others who say it's a good take on the theme, very fun :)

Onanigan by alvivar 2014-08-27T06:29:00

Trying to go around bends while upside down gets really tricky. And I wish I could just use left and right to go up and down.

Overall it was pretty fun, and with that ominous bigger creature looming it got pretty intense :)

Sun Saviors by HeuGamer 2014-09-16T00:50:00

Yeah, I don't see the connection to the theme either, but for 2 hours of work it's certainly a pretty good game!

Exin by Mechanical Birdie 2014-09-16T00:38:00

The idea is really neat, but the gameplay was a bit confusing.

Connect the worlds, rule the universe by Markavian 2014-09-06T17:34:00

There is nothing wrong with continuing to develop an LD game! Just make sure you preserve the original game for people to know what you made during the competition itself and mark the further developed version as post-compo or something.

In fact, finishing a game you started during LD is wonderful! :)

Hypnagogia by Cake&Code 2014-08-26T04:18:00

Whoops! Zeik here, sorry about that movement issue, it is fixed now :)

Hypnagogia by Cake&Code 2014-08-26T14:30:00

@pythong: I think you got an older version from the server for some reason, that bug should have been fixed when the movement issue was fixed. If you'd clear your cache and try again it should be gone :)

Hypnagogia by Cake&Code 2014-08-26T17:31:00

The move state exists because the entire game is playable with just a mouse or just a keyboard. It was a compromise to make it feasible with keyboard controls... in hindsight, making the arrows always be present for mouse users would have been a good idea.

You live and you learn! Thanks for all the comments everyone :)

Hypnagogia by Cake&Code 2014-08-27T08:44:00

@jomomomo no mouse is required! the entire game can be played with the arrow keys and Enter :)

Hey Lucky Lucky by Deconstructeam 2014-09-16T00:49:00

Silliest take on the theme I've seen yet, but tons of fun! Nice game :)

Overlap by phaze0 2014-09-06T17:59:00

That was really awesome! I love when games take an idea and push it to the limit, the puzzles were super inventive and really fun to work through! I really hope you keep going with this idea :D

Delightful Harmony by pinkmonkeyhead 2014-09-01T07:42:00

That was really awesome! Never seen a game play like that before. And the distance mechanic was very simple and easy to grasp. Would love to see more levels! :)

Dreams or Reality: The Adventure by GibTreaty 2014-09-06T18:24:00

I like the idea of going to a dream world for gathering up courage points to then tackle real-world challenges. Wish there were more content! :)

Wifimon by Morusque 2014-09-16T00:54:00

One of the best uses of the theme I've seen, good thing I've got an Android phone! I've seen artists use wifi before but never a game, reminds me of the old monster rancher games where you'd scan other discs to generate them. Very cool :)

Or Else They Will Disconnect You (for Oculus Rift) by Dark Arts and Sciences 2014-09-09T05:25:00

It'd be nice if you could add a video of what the gameplay looks like so people who can't play it can see :)

Mor by Ditto 2014-09-16T00:49:00

Seriously. Amazing game. I'm only sorry that I got around to this so late, but it was one of the best games I've played during the compo. It's hilarious, the art is spot on, and you really thought about the theme in a different and unique way. I can't express how cool this game is! :D

Fight those Pirates by Dohan 2014-09-01T07:11:00

Haha, love the ships you chose! Fun little ship shooter, very classic :)

Elemental by Aurel Bílý 2014-08-26T06:06:00

Really loving this game! Typing games have a special place in my heart, and this takes the cake by mixing it with classic rpg dungeon crawlers! :')

Space Trader by SonicRaptor 2014-09-09T05:28:00

A bit of a ramp up until I understood what to do, but it was fun. Managing resources, especially with more than one pool, is beyond me though so I suck at it

Nicely done! :D

Prismatic Worlds by LandoSystems 2014-08-27T06:43:00

Besides the slow movement it was pretty cool!

I've played around with box2dlights before, looks like you're making good use of it here :D

Circular Logic by Benn 2014-08-26T05:31:00

Very cool idea! The controls felt too hard to master, but it was fun nonetheless :)

Planet Sweeper by pansapiens 2014-08-27T06:56:00

Wow, I love everything about this game! It has space, it has physics, it has cool graphics... this is amazing, well done!

The AI might be cheating a bit, but I still managed to win! Hooray for the human race :D

ConnectTheWorlds by mrexcessive 2014-09-01T07:27:00

Some of the later planets made it hard to judge how much you could thrust before not being able to anymore. It was fun but a bit finnicky.

Tiles at the Juncture by porglezomp 2014-09-14T20:04:00

I'm a huge sucker for Match X games! :) Liked your take on it, as it was challenging but also different than what I'm used to. Music was pretty great, and overall it was fun! Great work!

Cohack by Exeneva 2014-08-26T08:16:00

Pretty nice game! I think it had a lot of potential to be fun and interesting. I sort of wish I knew which units were mine, and which units did what specifically. (I spent the first couple minutes just randomly clicking things.) But once it started rolling I thought it was funner! The idea is there, and I thought it was well executed. Great job!

Pogo the Universe by Nick Weihs 2014-09-09T05:32:00

It was fun to slow the speed down so much that you'd stutter on top of the planets, the spammed pogo sound was just funny to boot :D

Earth Defense Team 2492 by Toestee 2014-09-15T05:51:00

That was pretty fun! The swarm was easy to control with mouse and it felt very natural. Agree with NnelGdaBandit about the formations, being able to to toggle between some presets would have been cool for different attack patterns.

Also, POOP

Connector by TeamEagle 2014-09-14T20:46:00

Absolutely beautiful game! As the artist of our game, the aesthetic the game really spoke to me. The game itself was really fun with great polish, and it was definitely such a pleasure to play! Your team did a great job! :)

Fender Bender by uchiro 2014-08-26T05:59:00

The boost seemed to drive the game wild and leave me uncontrollable.

Die in another world by Posva 2014-09-16T00:38:00

Really great mood and art style! The mechanic was interesting, which made it all the more fun and enjoyable to play. There's a good level of polish too, I thought! Great work! :)

Little Beetle Saves The World by local minimum 2014-09-06T18:27:00

The visuals were a bit jumpy when moving but the mechanics were good. I figured out that the light and dark panels could only be crossed through with a medium tinted block but it was still hard to see them when rushing through a level to avoid the enemies.

Hope you keep developing it! :)

Little Beetle Saves The World by local minimum 2014-09-07T03:17:00

@local minimum: Having worked with javascript/web for years I can say that yes, it takes a bit of planning to make sure everything runs smoothly. But it is totally doable! Good luck :D

Demonicron by Rothens 2014-08-26T08:31:00

Even though it's in a rough state, it has potential to be pretty cool and it sounds like you're going to keep working on it so Good Luck!

ORBII by Lars Faust 2014-09-16T00:39:00

Very beautiful game! I'm a sucker for games with this kind of visual and artistic polish, and I think you made it just as fun as it was beautiful! My one comment would be to adjust the kerning on your instructions, as they're a bit hard to read. :P

Dead Land by BoaHeck_ArtGent 2014-09-14T19:59:00

I'm liking the art direction for the game! Lots of good choices, and it really created a great atmosphere for us to be immersed in. :)

DON'T. BREAK. MIRRORS. by IamAcoconut 2014-09-16T00:41:00

Cool concept, and the ending was cool to get to! Like someone else said, having a way to skip the intro would be really neat. It's something that's more for a "polished" experience, but I think it really contributes to the overall enjoyment. :) Great work!

People Manipulation Sim by NikB 2014-09-14T21:32:00

Learning how to play was a bit difficult. I would suggest gradually introducing ways to play instead of doing it all at once. Sort of think Super Meat Boy and how they gradually have you learn parts of the game! It's definitely more work, but something to think about in the future. :D Overall great work! It was fun to play.

Linker by Stals 2014-08-26T08:43:00

Lovely lovely game! I like the hexels artwork, and the game has a really great concept behind it. the music was good, and I thought it was challenging and fun to play! My only complaint was that the game screen was pretty big. It was too big for my resolution (1280x800) so it was a bit difficult to scroll up and down to properly play the game.

Crisis Culture by GrooveMan 2014-09-01T07:19:00

That music... am I watching Nilesy?

Over all it was pretty interesting and zany fun. Makes me want to take the Space Week off to watch ping pong :)

Souzou Cliff by PixlWalkr 2014-09-02T07:30:00

Very lovely game! It reminds me a lot of a mashup between the movie "Upside Down" and "To The Moon". The art is lovely, and the dialogue was well written. The music was also ESPECIALLY great. I didn't care for having the portrait art there (even though it's not done) since it sort of distracts from the lovely pixel aesthetic you have going on, and the controls felt a bit slippery. I died quite a few times before the dual platforming even began!

Darkness by kevinAlbs 2014-08-26T08:00:00

I love that if you destroy the platform the enemies are standing on you can make them all plummet to their doom... or so you think, until an elevator brings one of them back up and he snipes you dead!

Haha, lots of fun :)

Line Crossing by Lissar 2014-09-14T20:37:00

Amazing art! Really enjoyed how it looked, and it really contributes to the mood of the overall game. The fact you guys got multiple endings to be achieved in a variety of ways is really fun, and adds to the replayability. Great work!

Connect teh Worlds by unitycoder_com 2014-08-26T05:51:00

Wow, that is extremely difficult, but as others said it was really rewarding when beating levels :)

Steam by Pinktreeleaf 2014-09-10T05:21:00

Firstly, the art is lovely!!! Major kudos to your artist. :D

I really enjoyed the story. I sometimes have troubles playing through visual novels due to the amount of reading involved, but I was really engrossed in the story. I think you've done an excellent job with the theme and building a world around that.

TERA - World's Intelligence by NicePenguins 2014-09-09T05:38:00

Really unique game! I enjoyed the choices and, as others have already said, the visual and music were really well done! :)

Back and forth by suppi 2014-09-06T18:04:00

The idea sounds really cool but the game seems too random and unfinished as well as the controls being extremely slippery and physics-based instead of under player control.

Hope the idea keeps getting developed though, once I got on a platform and reversed it was really cool to fly up instead of just fall down!

Roy, Gee, Biv by LTPATS 2014-09-14T20:32:00

Great atmosphere. It was definitely confusing like other said, and I almost ran out of patience before I started seeing some progress. It was interesting!

Convergence by leafarz 2014-09-16T00:45:00

It took a lot of work for me to find someone to play with hahaha. Although I applaud your attempt at having a multiplayer game, I would consider a way or a mode to play with a single player. The music was nice, and the mood you set up was also great.

Meowrror by thiaguera 2014-08-26T15:15:00

The meow did get repetitive but I still played it to completion! Very fun and cool use of the theme :)

The Great Space Salad by KuGrou 2014-09-06T18:36:00

The controls were a bit slippery but the mechanics were fun. I like the difference between the comet survival and the platformer stages but the comet survival was a bit too easy.

Rubber Slimes by JangoBrick 2014-09-09T05:41:00

Haha, "This is a really hard game" is quite the understatement! That or I'm just terrible at games. Still, it was a lot of fun.

Love that you listen your brain as a tool you used, it sucks when you forget to bring it to a competition! ;D

Ethernet Quest by MentaL13 2014-08-26T06:03:00

Haha, fun game. The popups are especially clever! Love the idea and the execution :)

A Game about Making a Game by rlangewi 2014-09-06T19:19:00

That house layout remind me of Chasm, did you get inspired a little? :)

Connection Failed by vanmount 2014-09-14T20:06:00

Graphics were super cute! It's unfortunate that you couldn't finish. :( It definitely felt a bit clunky, but hopefully you guys got something out of the entire experience. :D

Divided We Fail by ninjascript 2014-08-27T07:07:00

I think the jumping makes the controls too sluggish, but overall it was pretty fun.

A Hat's Trick by Soup With Bits 2014-09-02T07:36:00

Sweet mood to the game. It was a bit difficult to control two of the characters at once, but i think with time and practice isn't so bad. Great work!

Dimension Jumper! by German Kuznetsov 2014-09-11T14:55:00

When doing community based competitions like Ludum Dare, it's in your best interest to make the game as easily playable by a lot of people as possible. Putting it in a .rar file is already going to turn away a lot of people. Requiring Java 8 is just another layer of difficulty.

DimLey by Simaflux 2014-08-26T08:10:00

The levels actually got pretty good after the first few introductory ones were done. The square hitbox conflicted with the round visual but it was still fun! Well done :)

Double You by TobiasBodewig 2014-08-26T15:27:00

That was actually really well done! The clones mimicked the exact movement which was very cool, I've played too many clone games where the clones didn't do exactly what I did and it was really hard to play.

Made me think of The Swapper (probably because of the cloning + space suit), well done!

Sunborn: The tale of connected worlds by Windmill Games 2014-08-26T08:39:00

Very brooding game, the pacing seemed pretty well done but it was hard to judge hit areas and the movements seemed a tad too quick. Otherwise a pretty fun killing spree.

Substitute Night Watchman by OathAlliance 2014-08-26T08:19:00

That was really hard, but really fun! I only managed to survive 3 minutes. Having three of them after me really put the pressure on! :D

Invasion by Ogniok 2014-09-16T00:51:00

Pretty funny game. :P The graphics sort of bothered me a bit. Not because they were jarring or bad, but because it felt like a lot going on at once color wise. Besides that, it looks great and it plays well!

For Our Fragile Worlds by hinerz 2014-08-26T08:33:00

It was definitely strange, but in a good way. I liked the atmosphere and the dialogue of the strangers in the game. My first playthrough I fell off the game's stage! (I don't think I was meant to fall in between two of the platforms, but I did....

Space Delver by commodoreKid 2014-09-14T20:53:00

Really great game! The mood of the game is really well established in all of the little art choices, so I really appreciated the extra thought in that. The game itself was pretty fun. I had some iffy moments about the controls, but it just took some time to get over that hurdle. I might consider tweaking it a bit in a post-compo version, but I think you all did a great job in the time you had!

The Jackal by jesterswilde 2014-09-12T20:42:00

With some more time and polish this could be a hit! Agree with the others, don't see the connection to the theme at all.

Crossworld Club by Artamus 2014-09-14T21:21:00

The game art really reminds me of Earthbound for some reason! I really like the way you used the theme. It's definitely refreshing to play something new! I would love to play a longer version of this game that carries the idea through! Great work!

Shifting by ghenoroc 2014-09-11T14:46:00

Didn't really know what I was doing so I just spent some time learning about the world. Hunched blue guys kill you, pulsating ground tiles with different color palettes take you to different maps when stepped on, and that the worlds have ends.

I wish there was more to do but it was still fun to go exploring.

Hold My Beer by imdigitaljim 2014-08-26T05:54:00

I got the first cystal, stepped on the slimes, climbed the building, died in a fire... and then couldn't figure out what to do...

Too Close to Die by hb3p8 2014-08-26T08:15:00

Difficult to master, felt like the wall jump was a bit off but fun!

Sphere Harmony by explodingrabbit 2014-08-27T06:21:00

Definitely agree with Bozwellox, I picked it up pretty quickly but I still feel like a novice at it! Definitely a lot of fun :)

Connected by Rutger Megahertz 2014-08-26T08:05:00

Looks very cool, and could have some really great puzzles. Hope to see this get expanded upon post-LD!

Worlds Apart by ClownAround 2014-09-16T00:43:00

It definitely felt like it was a game jam game, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. You have a pretty interesting concept there, but it really needs some polish for it to really shine. (Sometimes I say it's easier to notice the negatives than it is the positives :P ) I thought it was great work though, and the visualization of the theme was interesting.

A Game of Worlds Colliding by Dx724 2014-08-26T15:32:00

Agreeing with xxmicloxx here, I have java7 set to be my machine default so it wouldn't open. When I tried used java8 it worked, if you recompile it with java7 more people will be able to play it out of the box since 7 is installed on almost every machine while 8 is only on a smaller set.

Duel at the Apocolypse by JBM 2014-09-14T20:33:00

This game looks like it would be best suited for more players! I did have fun on my own, and I like the art style you guys have going for the game. I played for a while, but sort of wish there was a way to fail/win.

ConnWars by Raphael 2014-08-26T15:37:00

I love the idea, it feels like Eufloria :)

That being said, it was brutally difficult! Haha, never gonna win this one.

Inspirational Planets by Skywilly 2014-08-27T06:17:00

Took a bit of clicking and moving the mouse around to figure it out but it was a lot of fun. I really liked the end screen filled up with all the words :)

StarShrimp Trooper by 01101101 2014-09-10T05:27:00

It was a pretty fun game! I thought it was slightly too simple since you were guided to which star you should be going to. I felt like I was being led around while dealing with lobsters moreso than being engaged in a deeper level. The art is great though, and the theme was definitely there!

UltraRealistic Moon Wrecking Ball Simulator by ZirconCode 2014-09-14T21:30:00

Hilarious game! It's not often we get to run into a game that has a good amount of humor in it. :) Game is simple and fun, and it was enjoyable overall. Great work!

Fire ze Missiles! by bushmango 2014-09-06T18:19:00

That was a lot of fun! At first I didn't know what I was doing so I couldn't figure out how to connect the parts together, but then when I realized that resources went where they were needed automatically (thanks enemy AI) it all took off.

I won a couple of times and lost a couple of times, both were super fun! Love that impacted spaces become unusable, really makes you question your placements :)

STREAM by airdeck 2014-09-09T05:23:00

I love the concept and it's just as difficult as expected, but it really does lack that purpose that gives a game long-term playability. Understandable from an LD and I hope you keep developing the idea into a more fleshed out game! :)

The Nether by GFM 2014-09-01T07:32:00

Agree about the controls not being ideal, but the mechanics were cool :)

RymdPlasma by DalsGames 2014-09-16T00:41:00

Agreed about the ramp-up in difficulty being too high, but in an LD I know how hard it can be to get that kind of thing right! :)

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

CoinSlot by SuperDisk 2014-12-13T02:53:00

Are you crazy or just insane? This is an awesome idea! I love it to pieces, well done! :)

P.S. Don't be hating on javascript just because you're doing some crazy stuff that was never meant to be done. You could have done some better lazy loading ;D

Tightrope Theatre by AdventureIslands 2014-12-10T16:11:00

Very polished game with nice controls and tons of fun to play! Getting through the stages was awesome because you never knew when the next stage would have a new mechanic to try out. The ramp up in learning was very well done and the platforming felt good.

A+++++, would play again :)

Galactyc Budget Flights by Elemental Zeal Games Studios 2014-12-13T01:59:00

I am thinking exactly what @intersectiongames is thinking, this reminds me a lot of Space Alert! It's a hilarious board game where you need to do silly stuff like jiggle the mouse in the control room once in a while or the screen saver will come on and sleep your computers.

Very nice presentation, hilarious sound effects, and enjoyable (if difficult) gameplay. Loved the emails too! :)

Super Snow Girl by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2014-12-10T16:04:00

I was getting some jQuery errors in Chrome Beta, but it worked flawlessly in Firefox and Safari. If anyone else is having trouble running the game I'd suggest trying a different browser.

The. Art. Is. Beautiful! Those cutscenes and character animations are top notch. It's a shame this didn't get finished, it looks very promising! :)

Hope you can find some time to work on it more Christina!~

Snowball Fight by devshawn 2014-12-10T15:34:00

LISP-based? Wow, that's pretty impressive! The game was surprisingly satisfying, just gotta hit all those darned snowmen :)

Underwater Fortress by orion_black 2014-12-10T16:16:00

Agreeing with the others, the first level wiped me out! It's pretty difficult, but the mix of resource management and defense was very well done. Hope you polish it up post-ld! :)

Sno-Man by JayCee23 2014-12-29T02:46:00

Well done on completeing your first game, and first LD! :)

Scan Lines by KilledByAPixel 2014-12-16T07:23:00

Love the idea, it's new and it's brilliant. I think shoehorning in the snowman was a bit awkward, but the game itself has a lot of promise, I think the only difficult thing is being able to properly preview when a section is going to go away, it was really hard to see.

I really hope you take this mechanic and keep pushing it. I think it's got a lot of promise :D

The Nth Dimension by Dans17 2014-12-13T02:42:00

It was an interesting idea, but the game itself could use some polish. I found that the enemies came too slowly, and sometimes appeared right on top of my character, evil! The drops were pretty slow too.

I loved the rotating cube for dimensions! It reminded me of Psychonauts a little bit. Overall the game itself was fun and engaging. The unity menus and lack of polish should give you all enough to do with game post-compo :)

P.S. I noticed you left Humor as an option for us voters, is the game supposed to be funny? I thought it felt pretty serious, being about death and all :O

Moving Melody by ChuiGum 2014-12-16T02:40:00

Some sort of checkpoint system would have helped, overall it's not bad. I think it just needs some more variety and fine-tuned mechanics.

One Does Not Simply Walk Into More Doors by Wertle 2014-12-10T15:53:00

Dang, only managed to get 17! Pretty fun game, easy to learn, and it was a challenge. In a pinch it was impossible to know which door would lead where and you just had to risk it or get eaten, enjoyed this a lot! :)

Walk the Plank by MiniBobbo 2014-12-10T15:38:00

Loved it! These kinds of twitch games get my blood pumping like no other and I had a blast trying to quickly sort the people. Very smooth gameplay, good controls, easy to learn and very nice sound effects and music. Overall just a great game! :D

Planetary Body Shooter by kavic 2014-12-16T02:49:00

The game could be a lot of fun but suffers from problems others have already pointed out:
1.) The store is great, but since all asteroids spawn on a collision course with your ship it's not likely to give you much time
2.) The ship hitbox is big and a single hit = death, maybe a health bar would be nice, or shields or something
3.) Sometimes debris from a breaking asteroid spawned going REALLY fast right at my ship, no chance for me to escape or destroy it in time

With these few pain-points in mind, you could easily make the game really fun very easily! Hope you keep working on it :)

Tiny's Adventure in TV Land by Kate Kligman 2014-12-10T15:26:00

A very simple adventure with slightly floaty controls, but overall enjoyable :)

Definitely had to read the description to figure out I could jump on clouds. It's a pity that mechanic wasn't used again, that alone could've been an interesting game of climbing what isn't traditionally foreground elements

Popao by christopf 2014-12-10T16:28:00

Sometime balancing gameplay and speed is difficult, I agree that it's a bit slow but can understand that it was sacrificed for precision. Overall it was a pretty fun game and the idea is just fantastic!

Escape by madalaski 2014-12-15T15:48:00

The game itself was fun, don't think I've ever controlled a mouse like that! :)

Slime Spire Showdown by rojo 2014-12-29T02:33:00

I'm sort of on the same boat with ESDF vs. WASD. Was a bit weird and unorthodox. Otherwise pretty good game. The shooting could feel a little juicier or faster.

Block Dungeon by Lancelot Gao 2014-12-12T15:42:00

Damn, that was a ton of fun! Love the arcade style gameplay and the waves of enemies. Controls felt good and the difficulty was just high enough. Very well done :)

0000 : Press Z by alvarop 2014-12-12T15:33:00

The controls feel pretty solid, and the knockback from the shooting is awesome. The levels were pretty cool although there were a few where the you'd have to wait for platforms to come down far enough to be able to jump but the timing had to be very exact because they came down only just enough to get on top of them. It'd be nice if they came down about two more player-character heights more.

Cheers :)

Baseball by jeepracer98 2014-12-16T01:23:00

Very simple, but it has that ye-olde-handheld feel of a fun game that you could spend a couple of hours on. I enjoyed it :)

Not sure why it was compiled with Java 8, earlier versions are much more likely to exist on our computers and unless this game makes heavy use of lambda expressions or other new features it should be easy enough to compile it in 7 or even 6.

Also not sure why you didn't opt out of the Humor category, this doesn't strike me as a funny game in any way.

Beat Zombie VR by Ekanaut 2014-12-10T16:18:00

This is just.. SO 80s! I love it, everything about it. The art and style, the wacky gameplay, the insane idea... all of it. Very awesome!

hot & cold by Wir 2014-12-10T16:33:00

The timelapse is available in 60fps?? Awesome! Haha.

I need to find someone to play this with, playing it alone was good enough to learn the mechanics but I can tell it's going to be a lot more fun with an actual opponent! The art is also very cool. Nicely done :)

Block Brigade by CodeNMore 2014-12-13T02:26:00

The game was fun, but pretty simple. It was already pretty difficult to hit the enemies since their hitboxes were so tiny, and adding more enemies just made it a slaughter. Maybe the enemies could have larger hitboxes, or grow and shrink to make timing your shots more strategic and not just shooting fish in a barrel (very difficult by the way!).

Some extra tips:

1.) You could have easily made the embed LD offered as a place to put the game directly so people don't have to do to a new page. We did, it's awesome!

2) When clicking to shoot the browser would start highlighting the page since you didn't disable click actions from propagating. You could use a combination of CSS for "user-select" and onselectstart hooks for IE.

The Screen Space by KickBack 2014-12-12T16:03:00

Very witty and fun little blend of genres! Loved it :)

One Screen by shyupuff 2014-12-10T16:13:00

Finding new objects was great because you'd get little tidbits of story but it's a good thing you pointed out to press the arrow keys after doing the phone part, I was stuck re-reading the same message haha :)

Souls by friken 2014-12-10T15:31:00

As other have said, it certainly looks stunning! The controls and gameplay were simple which was good because it made it very easy to learn. I wish there was more depth though, after a while of playing it started to feel a bit repetitious.

Nice job team :)

Circle Sumo by foodzilla 2014-12-29T02:43:00

2067 was my high score, got to the three enemies circles and managed to knock one out before dying. Pretty fun!

PigeonReproducer2000 by maybeimelias 2014-12-16T01:30:00

It was pretty interesting once I found out I had to dodge other birds and it wasn't as simple as just click to choose. A lot of the combinations made it seem like there were definitely some underlying hidden stats being randomly combined to make a child from the parents, very cool.

Even if it is simple, it's got a lot of character! Hope you keep building on it :)

Territorial by zed0 2014-12-29T02:35:00

Definitely add a built-in replay/timelapse feature! That would be awesome :)

Greeny GRUB by pht59x 2014-12-12T16:00:00

The slight momentum the ball always seems to have is deceptively big, trying to hide in a corner can be a challenge if you're trying to tap all-or-nothing accelerators :)

Gadget Panic starring Godzilla by Orangy Tang 2014-12-15T15:30:00

Slapping random parts on top of other random parts was pretty hilarious, especially when it started trying to move towards enemies! Haha, very fun game and very creative.

I did notice that trying to select some items was difficult because you had to click and drag from the circle the item was in and not from the image of the item itself. Like the legs, trying to click and drag from the leg itself fails 100% of the time, but dragging from the circle it's in works 100% of the time.

Pixel Pixie by Code White 2014-12-12T16:16:00

Oh man, I love color-based games! It was pretty tough and as others have said really pushed the RGB-knowlegde envelope, but it was so much moe fun that way :)

Sweep Stacks by excaliburjs 2014-12-26T20:55:00

Wow, that was really awesome. It's such a simple idea too but so well executed! Love that it was hard to keep the stacks from growing too big even when you have all the time in the world to think about your moves. Very good puzzle game :D

Breaker by Resonious 2014-12-10T15:44:00

Easy to learn, fun to play, and easy to lose a lot of time with! Very nicely done. I loved rushing back and forth trying to break the blocks while avoiding falling ones and being shot and being blown up.

I wish I could've lived long enough to open that treasure chest! WHAT WAS INSIDE?? :D

Adventure of Lady Slashalot by Creative Sectors 2014-12-15T15:35:00

PIXELTRON by GameDevExtreme 2014-12-15T15:53:00

The mechanics work, but as others have mentioned, it'd be nice to have some feedback on whether everything is going well or not. Just a little bit of status information so you can guage what needs prioritization at the moment.

Animal Roar by gillenew 2014-12-26T20:52:00

One of the best all-around games I've played; nice art, nice music, nice polish, good platforming. Amazing work for 48 hours! However, this doesn't really feel like a one-screen game?

Love the progression! Also has really nice graphics, well done! :)

Escape The Creeper! by DarkCart 2014-12-13T02:20:00

Agreeing with the others about the lag, you might be running everything too quickly. I took a cursory look at the code (also found you wrote the engine behind it too!) I saw you had an update call at the end of the paint call. That's a pretty big potential pitfall. What you usually want to do is run the paint loop and the game loop separately, this lets you get away with smoother renders with potentially better simulations.

As far as the game itself is concerned, the randomness of the coin movement doesn't lend itself to strategic play which makes the bulk of the game simply avoiding the creeper. While not entirely un-fun, it lacks layering. You always want game mechanics to supplement each other, so having the coins move in linear paths would make it possible to develop strategies: "if I move this way I'll put myself in the path of the coin AND avoid the creeper!"

Hope you keep on developing it! There's always a ton of potential in simple games :)

P.S. Not sure why you opted to let us vote for the game on Humor, it's not exactly geared towards being a funny game. My 2 cents~

Looks like the old Sierra adventure games for some reason, very fun regardless if a bit finnicky with the controls :)

Whole Life On One Screen by Demy 2014-12-12T16:08:00

The persistence is very cool, but it didn't feel like there was a downside to anything. Working for hours didn't lower my clan rating? Was everyone else in the clan just not doing anything to get better without me? When I played games or worked on the blog money didn't go down? Did I not pay for food, game subscriptions etc?

I didn't get to play for many days bcause eventually no matter what program I tried to open it always opened the banana blog program.

Interesting idea, could use some more polish :)

Wayang by xlash86 2014-12-10T16:45:00

The timings and mechanics were a bit of a challenge to get just right but it was a very interesting and beautiful game.

That title screen confused me a bit because it said "made with love (and unity)" so my brain initially thought "how did they mix the Lua LÖVE framework with Unity?!" xD

Fight, Because. by Tortoise 2014-12-10T15:45:00

Controls feel great, which is super important in a combat game like this. The replayability is high because of the upgrade system and enemy move-set learning curve. Overall just a ton of fun to play, very very well done :)

Helga Kills Everything by mutatedsoftware 2014-12-13T02:07:00

D'aww, only 32 kill points, that bear destroyed me!

Pretty fun, but gets very hectic too quickly, I'd have liked a smoother ramp up to get used to all the enemies more progressively. For example, the first wizard had only come out only moments ago while ago when suddenly 3 wizards and a bear spawned, hilarious and terrifying all at once :)

The graphics actually remind me of the old Hugo adventure games on DOS for some reason, I think it's the main character's head.

As much as I love programming games, I think this needs some more polish and love. The learning curve is just too steep and when I accidentally selected all and deleted the text in the phone box I had to restart the game to figure out what to do.

Love the idea though! Please keep working on this! :)

THEY JUST KEEP COMING! Haha, very cool. The controls were easy to pick up and it was pretty satisfying to fight so many enemies at a time, if not challenging.

Also couldn't agree more with Fonserbc, doing this game in pure windows apis? Nice. :)

Very moody game that looks just incredible! I had the same problem as the others with the hitboxes, but it was doable. Very cool game! :)

AI can be really rough to get working in a believable, challenging, and non-perfect way. I commend you for trying!

The game is simple but fun, you should definitely keep working on it! :)

That's a pretty cool mix of mechanics, it sometimes felt like the controls were super responsive but it all worked so no problem with the game itself. Had some fun trying to beat the AI but it wasn't super difficult either. Nicely done!

Would love to see the physical game with 3d sculpted pieces! :D

I loved that after I got sacked I could keep playing the game behind the message, managed to get DOUBLE SACKED! :)

Spacebank Heist by BoxedMeatRevolution 2014-12-26T20:47:00

Took some time to get good, but it was a lot of fun the entire time! Also loving the artwork, very cool :)

Love that the shooting pushes you back! Very fun little game, especially since after I lost I got to shoot down my killers since the controls still worked even though the player token was invisible :)

Sweet, sweet revenge.

Office Escape by Graham Weldon 2014-12-29T02:33:00

You should've kept working on it and submitted it for the jam instead of forcing the compo version, it's obviously not finished in its current state. Hope you finish it up! :)

I had fun going through the levels, and I do appreciate that death simply moved the game onto the next level. When the game was over though it just displayed the title screen again, I wish I'd gotten a look at my time/score instead.
