The Mask of Us by KirbiKaka 2014-04-29T09:18:00

@caryoscelus Oh wow! I didn't even know I had done that! Thanks so much for the fix :D! I changed all the references of "ui" to "UI" and updated the download link! I hope this works for y'all :]!

And thank you all for the kind words and feedback, I really appreciate it :D!

The Mask of Us by KirbiKaka 2014-04-29T20:14:00

@Lolshouse Dev Team / funkeh
Oh man, I totally thought I had fixed that :S! I changed the UI folder to ui and reuploaded it. (And made sure the code only references assets/ui). Hopefully everything works now D:! Thanks so much for pointing it out!

The Mask of Us by KirbiKaka 2014-04-30T09:15:00

@Solifuge / Vector
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Actually, the initial idea was to have a bit of a puzzle game going on. I hinted at it with the VERY simple puzzle of the bully blocking your way. You must have the Botch-Face mask on in order to intimidate him to let you through. The game was supposed to be a sort of puzzle adventure with the mask mechanic added in. Unfortunately, I ended up running out of time and just barely being able to finish the bare-bones story that you see here. I weighed between making more puzzles and finishing a story, and decided that, in the end, the message was more important.

TL;DR Ran low on time, as is the case with a lot of Ludum Dare games :b

Thanks for the question, I appreciate your interest :D!

The Mask of Us by KirbiKaka 2014-05-02T00:55:00

Reuploaded to fix an audio issue, the audio file is now set to stream instead of load all at the beginning. :]

Digging up Daisy by Cake&Code 2014-04-29T05:42:00

Awesome :D And everything looks so pretty!

Drill Arena by TheDreik 2014-04-29T08:07:00

Fun game! A lot of battles aren't terribly exciting, though, when two people just face off, drilling each other. I'd like to see upgrades or powerups just so there'd be ways to turn the tide of battle in your favor :]

Cull Shot by halogenica 2014-05-01T08:08:00

Wow this game is awesome :D! Both the take on the theme and polish are absolutely amazing! I loved watching the little arrows that surround your shooter point to the boxes.

I feel like I would have enjoyed the game a little more on an XBox controller only because turning left and right (clockwise and counterclockwise) got to be a little confusing on the keyboard.

I think one small detail I personally would have liked, would be a little bar or marker that would show you about how far your shot would go. This is really a personal preference, but I had a hard time estimating how far and fast my shot would fire. This meant I spent more time wrestling with the controls than trying to figure out where the cubes were. (Though maybe that's the point :b) Actually, a bar or marker wouldn't even be necessary, I think all I would need is a clear way of knowing when a shot was fully charged (that way I would be able to kind of "figure out" how much to charge to get a certain distance). Maybe there was a way to tell, I might not have seen it among the screen shake. At least when I played, I was kind of taking shots in the dark (ha-ha) as to how long to charge, even if I was pretty sure I knew where the cube was.

The game is absolutely great though! The simple design and the polish is absolutely amazing, especially for a 48 hour compo entry. 5 stars :D!

Cap'n Dragon by john_conder9 2014-04-29T07:01:00

I think with just a bit more time and polish you guys would have an awesome game! I love the unicorn and narwhal :b One thing that really struck me though, was that when you attack a campfire, the fight is over before you can even realize what's happening, which really confused me at the start of the game (because I didn't read your game's description and just started playing)

Sunapsis by HunLyxxod 2014-04-30T07:47:00

Hey sorry, I also got a black screen after I press 'New Game' or try to go from 'Level Select.' I'm on Windows 7 if that helps any, and there's no error message or anything :S!

Just Your Typical Dating Game by Shmarah 2014-04-30T07:00:00

Ha, interesting game! At first I was wondering if there were any male characters, but the game didn't actually have too much dating in it anyways (at least during my play-through). Interesting use of timed choices in a visual novel :b Keeps you on your toes.
I felt like any errors in grammar or spelling were small and few enough not to have a huge impact. The story did kind of jump from "I don't really know what's going on" to "I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON" but that's part of being restricted by 72 hours, so I wouldn't blame you for the rushed story :b Nice work!

Bistro Cafard by VividReality 2014-05-01T10:25:00

This game is awesome :DD! I absolutely love your take on the theme, despite how much I gag at the thought of a cockroach salad :b.

One issue I did have with the game was that it did seem to not take my stock into account? I used items despite having 0 in stock, and there didn't seem to be any cost or punishment to it, at least not one I could see.

The instructions were also a little unclear; it took me a while to figure out how to cook things and assemble them. The pacing might have been able to be tweaked a little better as well. Since the game doesn't increase in content, challenge, and difficulty, the game should probably be pretty short.

That said, I loved the graphics in the game. The gameplay itself is very smooth and fun. Also, I have to say that I doubly loved your game when I saw that men sat with men, while women sat with women. I don't know if the situation is necessarily a dating one, but it caught my attention and I appreciated it nonetheless :]! Awesome game!

Magic Age by dark_hunter 2014-04-29T08:49:00

Awesome! I love RPGs :D Though, there wasn't any character customization there, was it? (Just making sure I didn't miss anything). Anyways, the combat system is really cool. I love the way the battles start naturally without transition, and also the way the 4 attacks are mapped to the arrow keys (though, when you get your 2nd skill, it's initially confusing how to access the two skills).

I felt that the game could definitely use some polish in the dialogue. The story experience is ruined a bit by all the typos in the text. I also felt like the game could use a little bit of visual or audio feedback when you level up, since I didn't even notice I was leveling up for a while. The pixel art, though, is absolutely outstanding and the game looks great!

Indie Space Miner by Supersonic112 2014-04-30T10:02:00

Hey, this is a neat game! I really like the premise, mining tiles and collecting minerals and stuff. I could see, if you had more time, you could add enemies or upgrades or whatnot to give it more depth, but the basic mechanics are pretty solid!

I definitely agree that in-game controls would be nice. I don't usually read the game descriptions before trying them out and you seemed to give some instructions on the title screen, but none of them mentioned the actual gameplay (especially because Ctrl wasn't very intuitive to me as the action button). I think it also might have helped to make the game's rules a little more clear, just so we know what causes cave ins and how our game over happened and what the differences in the tiles are. (Like the darker brown tiles or the tiles with little pebbles).

Oh the movement is pretty cool by the way! It's a little hard to control, but the way you accelerate and decelerate is pretty neat to watch! I think if you had more time, this could be a really addictive game! :D

Through Shadows by sockfolder 2014-04-30T10:34:00

Hey this is a cool game! It's awesome that it's in a 3D and it's a lot for a 48 hour game! It was fun dodging the boss's many different attacks.

One thing I would have liked to see would be a bit of instruction, just because I don't usually read the descriptions before trying games, so I didn't know what right click was doing.

Another thing is that the controls weren't as smooth as a game like this would ideally have. The camera is cool in how it zooms in and out, but it does indeed sometimes turn weirdly. Also, the way you attack and move doesn't feel as smooth as it should for a fight against a boss that keeps running away from you.

After reading what the right click ability does, I really like your take on the theme! The mechanic is a great idea and I like how you incorporated both a puzzle and a boss! I'm also a fan of the chess-like flooring you've got there :b

Overall, pretty awesome game, especially in 48 hours!

Scabies by wallmasterr 2014-05-01T07:50:00

Interesting game, I really like that it's 3D :]

Though, I'm not really sure what you do in this game. I could pinch things, and it seems that if I held down the pinch button on top of certain things I could just get the number at the bottom left to 100 in just a few seconds. Also the instructions at the beginning kept flipping back and forth between "Enter to Start" and the instructions o.o

I didn't know what to do when picking up the little red and green things, and I couldn't seem to pick up the cream?

Anyways, the game itself is very unique, I don't think many other games are like this :b Also the little critters are super cute :D!! Super cool that you used blender :3

You Are a Mole! by valgriz 2014-04-29T23:31:00

Fun, simple little game :]! I like the mole, he's pretty cute. I think I would have preferred the colors to be a little different just because the rocks were kind of hard to see. The dirt and the rocks together just made the game not that great to look at for long periods of time.
I really like the mechanic though! It's simple and definitely addicting to play :D

Hughes by SnoringFrog 2014-04-30T09:25:00

Hey, neat game :]! The gameplay is solid, sans the slight jittery collision of the jumping. The level was pretty well designed, providing some basic challenges!

I think one easy thing you could add to make it better would be a simple instruction so that those of us (read: me) who don't read game descriptions before trying the game know to press E to go through the first door ;D

I think coloring the mine-able rocks a little differently would also make your game more interesting aesthetically (for example, having gray rocks). Though I understand if you wanted it to look similar to the surrounding dirt.

Overall, pretty cool for just 48 hours! I think you could have done a lot of awesome things with the game, given more time to work :]!

Prison Digger by fingerspit 2014-05-01T07:20:00

Hey this is a cool game! :D I like the mechanic of being able to see through the walls before you dig. And the level is nicely designed :]! The text at the beginning was a little hard to read, but it wasn't a big deal.

I think one thing I would have liked to see is a time limit or something that would play on the balance between being careful by taking the time to listen after each dig, and being a bit more risky by digging repeatedly. I felt like to beat the game, it just wanted me to play extremely carefully and listening multiple times before digging (in case of digging into a corner). I didn't have the patience to do that, unfortunately, so I have to say I died a lot.

The game is really fun nonetheless though! And the graphics and sound are awesome. Digging just _feels_ good, and I think that's really really important. I also really like the hostage rescuing mechanic, it's a lot of fun to have a little crew follow you around. Nice work! :D

Heart of the Earth by Dans17 2014-04-30T03:16:00

This game looks awesome, and it has an awesome mood! You move slowly, and jumping feels a bit weird, so the gameplay is a little slow. Hitting the platforms is definitely difficult, and being tossed back to the beginning when you die is a bit of a bother. Maybe checkpoints would be nice for the challenges so you don't have to walk all the way back. The fact that it's 3D is awesome, and the terrain is definitely fun to jump around. I spent a good amount of time just jumping up mountains for fun :]!

Surface Runner by OniiRam 2014-05-01T08:32:00

I got the 404 too, did you remove it from your dropbox? :S

[Work in Progress] by Jon Fischer 2014-04-29T06:45:00

Wow! This is an awesome idea :D! Dragging things around was a little wonky, but the fact that it's 3D is pretty awesome! :]

The Big Blue by Impmaster 2014-05-01T08:21:00

Hey this is pretty cool :]! I like the way the game gives you resource management challenges. You have to decide when to start resurfacing, when you try to navigate around fish instead of stopping for them, and when to use the space bar!

One issue I do have with the game are that the controls don't seem very intuitive? Or at least it confused me at first why up made me go down and left made me go right and right made me go left. It wasn't until I got to the resurfacing part that it become clearer to me. (That it's using steering controls). I think having some instructions in game would help a lot, for people like me who don't read game descriptions before trying them. (I didn't know you had to resurface at first, I thought you were just supposed to swim as deep as you could ;D).

Also, I didn't test it much, but is using the space bar beneficial? Or does it drain more air per distance?

I think it's pretty cute that the rainbow fish eat you :]!

Snatching Invaluables Beneath the Surface by mcburrobit 2014-04-29T07:47:00

This is definitely one of my favorite games I've played so far! The animation at the beginning is crazy! And the art and music capture the mood really well! Personally, (and this is just my 2 cents of course) I would have liked if the entire game ran just a little bit faster. Running back to your van can feel tedious, it would be nice if you ran faster in paths you already dug out (which would also make people plan their paths more). Also the drills fall a bit too slowly to pose a dangerous threat, so the difficulty of the game feels like it scales really slowly. As long as you stay at least moderately deep underground, you're untouchable. Overall, an awesome game! I loved playing it and kudos y'all :]!

Amongst the Sand & Spice by ghostmaple 2014-04-30T02:37:00

Nice game! :D The top screen is kinda hard to use and it was a bit difficult for me to get what was going on at the beginning, but after I figured it out, it was a lot of fun! And controlling which way is left and right on the map adds an extra level of difficulty >:]

Questionable Submarine by TheLastBanana 2014-04-29T07:13:00

WOW! This was made in 48 hours? So awesome! This game is a lot of fun, I think it'd be crazy hectic with multiple people too :D. One thing I think I'd like to see is the ability to close the current window just by clicking outside of it, instead of always having to go to the red X at the top right, especially when things get rushed; it gets to be a bother. Oh and I liked the fun little physics on the Uranium :b. One major issue that ruined the game experience is that the game froze and crashed :[ I was only at like 58 m/s too (it took me a while to figure out that you had to push the Go! button to descend).

Smoldering Star by Mikhail Lyubimov 2014-04-30T03:05:00

Wow! This game just looks amazing :D!
It does a little difficult figuring out the shadows, and you don't have much vision, but that's part of the beauty I suppose! The gameplay is fun, but this game really shines in its aesthetics and mood :]!

Anterraria by Sim00n 2014-04-30T03:29:00

I like the premise, and the game seems like it would be a lot more fun if you had just a bit more time to work on it!

That said, the controls are indeed a bother. You can't click on the buttons and also selecting ants is a little wonky since you have to deselect your current ant before selecting another one (if you don't want to control both of them at once). Since each ant has its own role, maybe it would have been simpler to just have a button to select the ant's action? (digging for dig ants, building for build ants, etc.) I had to refer back to the help screen often, just to remember how to select things or how to move the screen because there were so many different controls.

I enjoyed the tile-based platforming. I especially like how smooth running up stairs feels! I had a lot of fun with the game by taking one digging ant and just going on adventures :D!

Rat King by woodenrabbit 2014-05-01T08:40:00

Hey, I was a little confused at first, but this turned out to be a fun game! I really like how smooth it is to run around and attack. Being able to attack and move at the same time is a huge plus :] It was a little weird that so many mice get lost though. I didn't see a way to scroll my map to recover them. It was also weird when yellow mice went off-screen since I couldn't do anything about them either.

I think one thing I would have liked to see is a little clearer obstacles. The obstacles have vague edges and are round, so you think that you would be able to path your way around them, but you can't really. (e.g. run into one of the rocks from the left side, then try to move up or down, it doesn't work very well despite the rock looking like a round surface.) Either the obstacles should be more easily navigated, or they should have harder, more defined edges. Otherwise they can be a bit frustrating the navigate (and by that I mean the bad kind of frustrating :b).

I really like the mechanics of the game though, the crazy rush of having too many yellow mice and watching your gray mice die is really fun! I also absolutely love the way the gray mice congregate, and even though it doesn't make much sense, I really like your little spinning weapon :D!

Crystals by Wir 2014-05-01T10:45:00

Pretty cool game :D
I didn't realize, but in the window that default appeared, the resources were cut off, so I had no idea how many resources I had xD Also the game has some problem with not wanting to close.

It's really cool that y'all didn't use any libraries :D! The game is pretty fun to play and moves smoothly! Though, the two games I played both started with 2 enemies in the beginning zone and I thought that was a bit of a rough entrance to the game. I'm not sure how the levels are made, but that might be something to keep in mind in terms of level design?

The game is great though :D

Crystals by Wir 2014-05-01T20:13:00

@Wir
I'm on Windows 7. The 2nd time I opened the game it closed fine, but the first game I played I died (lost my 3 starting dwarves) and when I tried to close the game, it wouldn't have it. The screen was frozen (though it might just be because I died) but the music was still playing.

As for judging the difficulty, that's definitely a problem almost everybody faces. As a general rule, you're a lot better at your game than most everyone who's playing your game. It helps A LOT to get plenty of feedback and playtesters (send it to all your friends and stuff :]!)

A good thing to look up for level design is cascading information theory. It'd be nice to start the game without enemies so that we have plenty of time and freedom to learn how to select, move, buy, and mine. Then add in monsters and other things as we explore. :D

What lies beneath the Temple by oobie 2014-05-02T05:23:00

Ha, I like the way you took the game. I played it twice because I thought I had missed something, and the second time around I understood the script a bit better :b

I think some of the writing could have used a bit of cleaning up. Even after playing it twice, a few lines are still confusing towards the end.
Also, I have to say that the black text on gray background once you fall into the 30 seconds part is kind of hard to read. I actually didn't see anything at all until I saw a bit of a smudge on my screen and turned my brightness up.

One thing I REALLY REALLY liked about the game, though, is the very first line. I absolutely loved that you used "...right?", implying that you press the right arrow key to move. I would have liked to see you pull that off with the other buttons too, but I guess it's hard to easily write "R" and "ESC" into lines smoothly. Still, it's a very interesting game, and a humorous take on the theme :]!

Triumph Of The Diver by teambrookvale 2014-04-29T08:17:00

Nice game :D! I like the stealth aspect and the way the movement feels is really nice! I think I would have really liked to have some sort of visual feedback when I sink the boats, both so that I know which boats I've sunk, but also for the satisfaction of sinking the boat. Right now it doesn't really feel like I'm doing anything. And yes the music is quite awesome :D!

Beneath My Skin by Jely L. 2014-04-30T08:01:00

This game is pretty cool! I especially like that it's ASCII on the console! I definitely think that making the main character more obvious would help. Or even just put a line in the instructions that says "you look like this:".
The music, though, its pretty amazing, I loved it! The mechanics are basic, but it's solid; this is a good start to a cool game :D!

Do not rate I cheated by MyDarKnightMare 2014-04-30T21:13:00

Whaaat? People are saying you stole the game? :S
I can't verify it myself, but at the same time I feel like I can't rate your game, so I'm gonna leave it unrated. Either way, in the 48 hour compo you're supposed to make all the assets and everything yourself.

Nether by zdonkeyx 2014-04-29T07:28:00

Woah this is really awesome! I absolutely love how good this game feels! From the smooth animations to the audio feedback when you switch! One thing I would personally want to see is better treatment of death. When I played I died a lot, and I would have liked to see a "press Space to respawn" instead of 'R'. Also I'd have liked it if you died sooner after missing a platform, but I understand if you put the boundaries far out so that people wouldn't accidentally hit them. The puzzles are also really cool, though I did have to do trial and error just to figure out what the special blocks did. But once I did... man, does the part where you keep flipping through yellow/purple blocks feel sooooooo good. :D

Beneath the Surface by mandrake 2014-04-29T08:27:00

Cool game :D! I like the simple, but difficult mechanic. And the way the paper boat gets lifted up by the black claw and then slowly dragged down is pretty awesome :]!
One problem I did have with the game is that brightness can be an issue. I couldn't get past 1 soul until I turned up my screen brightness and turned off f.lux. But hey, maybe it's just hard mode when it's dark!
Great game overall, and I love being a paper boat rescuing souls before losing my paper boat soul to the depths >:]

GetOut by sniper33 2014-05-01T09:52:00

Almost thought it said YOU ARE FAEE at first :b

Striking Innocence by LordDathing 2014-05-01T07:37:00

Yo, this game is really cool :D! I think the mechanics that you have here are pretty innovative. I enjoyed the way you have this split attention thing going on between navigating yourself and attacking enemies. And I really like how you can sacrifice points to slow down time and teleport.

That said, I do definitely agree that the game is a little hard to understand. Part of is that the word "score" is usually used in a different context. Usually, scores just measure how well you're doing, and it's something I ignore because I just want to beat the game and I don't really care for leaderboards anyways. It took me a while to realize that in this game, the score is actually directly influenced by everything and also controls your progress. I think, in a lot of ways, simply having a bar and maybe a number on the side would appeal to a lot of players' intuitions a bit better.

Also, I initially really enjoyed the screen shake you put on the monsters' deaths. However, later on the monsters die so fast, and the lasers also shake your screen, that it gets a little unbearable. It's a little too* much screen shake for my tastes, and even though it does add an extra level of challenge, it also makes me feel dizzy :[

I have to say, the art is quite amazing though, and initially the feeling is really really satisfying to kill monsters. I love all of your mechanics, and the game is definitely fun :]! Nice job!

Behind The Smile Face by Aomeas 2014-04-29T09:40:00

Wow awesome! I definitely love your interpretation of the theme! The whole neuron + dialog thing is a really cool idea :D! It was a little easy though, even if you have a full swear bar you can pick out the good answer. It took me a while to figure out what was going on (at least I hope I know what's going on now) but once I got it, I could enjoy the entertaining lines! Awesome :]

Beneath the surface by Norman12 2014-04-29T06:26:00

Definitely liked the opening and the music! :D The physics takes a bit getting used to though :b

Indigestion by Artless 2014-04-30T05:04:00

Awesome game :D The different mechanics of each level are definitely cool!
The game is simple and fun to play, though I would have liked to see a bit more depth in the levels. But that's okay because there are practically 3 separate games :]

Glueck Auf! by xandgate 2014-04-30T23:49:00

I would definitely agree that instructions would help a lot. Even after reaching the end of the game, I still don't really know what affects Satisfaction and what stock represents. The audio is quite nice though and the game is fun once you get it :D

Race Your Reflection by mashedtatoes 2014-04-30T07:53:00

Took me a bit to get the game working :b, LudumDare29/LudumDare29.exe didn't work, but LudumDare29/Resources/LudumDare29.exe worked! Interesting, I like the idea of using reflections as behind the surface. Sorry you ran out of time, though I think one small thing that could have improved the game a lot would be a simple set of instructions, so that you know to tap the right arrow key repeatedly. (I didn't find that out until after I tried the game, once I read your description :b). Also, it would have been nice to be able to restart after a win or loss. It's really cool that you made the engine though :D!

Elite Submarine by wilpel1234 2014-04-30T08:17:00

Wow, this game is really fun! The mechanics are solid and the upgrades are definitely a plus!

One thing I think I'd like to see is a recolour of the enemy's bullets, just so it's a little more obvious which ones are yours and which ones are theirs once you get to the point where you have quad shooter or minigun and bullets are just flying everywhere! Also, the pacing seems a little off as in the first level was really long, but as the game continues it seems like the boss comes earlier and earlier?

Overall, this game is awesomely fun, even without little extras like audio :]! Awesome work :D

Shootmarine by elmoGames 2014-04-29T09:47:00

Interesting idea and cool game! It is indeed very difficult, but that's not necessarily a bad thing!
I would say the controls were a bit wonky for me though. Moving with WASD and having to shoot with left control put my pinky in an awkward position. Also, surfacing by moving up, but then diving by pressing space bar confused me a little bit!
I really like the idea of kind of game (Shoot 'em up? Bullet hell?) with two separate screens. And the oxygen tank is a cool way to force you to move up into the surface, though I didn't see any motivators for moving back down into the water. Definitely cool though :D

Cave by fueelin 2014-04-30T07:33:00

Hey this game is pretty fun :D! It's awesome that it's procedurally generated :] The monsters were definitely hard though, you seem to die instantly even if you have full health. Because of this, I found that the best way to get to the lowest depth was just to run through the most direct route (since I didn't see a use for money anyways).
The game is simple and fun, nice work!

William the Wopol by chipcaramel 2014-04-29T10:13:00

Woah awesome! I didn't play it all the way, but it seems like its a decently long game, which is always cool in a game jam.
There are a lot of buttons though, including separate keys for holding items in two hands, which can get confusing. Also, walking on land seems a little tedious.
The art is awesome and the game is really great :]

Whale of a time by jeffz 2014-04-29T09:55:00

Oh is there a way to win the game? I just thought it was a little sandbox thing to play with. Anyways, I really like the art, the whale is pretty adorable :]

I had a lot of fun repeatedly clicking and making the whale fly above water, I even got him on top of a boat haha. Even if there's no goal, the game is pretty fun to play around with, especially with the sound effects.
Though it'd be nice to have a goal or something to do. If there was one and I missed it, maybe a bit more communication for those of us who don't get it?

Overall, it's a cute, fun, little game :]

Sorry, I couldn't play it! I got MSVCR120.dll missing D:! (Windows 7)

The Oubliette Within by Dietrich Epp 2014-04-30T09:41:00

Wow, glad I came back to check on this game! Nice work fixing the .dll errors by the way :]!

I love the mechanics of this game. The way the platforming is interspersed with the inner dialogue is awesome! Plus, I'm a huge fan of the way you always "return home" after collecting each of the pieces. Though it took me a while to figure out how to finish the game after completing the 3 parts, because I didn't think to exit through the same door I just entered :b

I think one thing I would have liked to see, personally, is a bit more depth on the dialogue part. The way it's implemented is really cool, but the actual lines themselves are a bit choppy and shallow. It's also hard to relate the game to the story. The shapes (circle, star, diamond) don't appear to signify anything, and when you're presented with multiple doors, you have no idea what kind of choice you're making when you choose one over the other.

By the way, the graphics are pretty sweet. I really enjoyed just shooting nothing (possibly because when you shoot a lot, the explosions on the walls look like popcorn :b) Also, the platforming itself is smooth and the level are well designed. Great game! :D

Treasure Dive Buddy by Gareth Jenkins 2014-05-01T10:03:00

This game is pretty fun :D! I like the way the swimming works, though it would have been nice if the controls were stated more clearly in the game for those of us who don't read the description before-hand.

I agree that the camera definitely needed to show more of what was ahead of you. The game was typically very easy except you died if you happened to be unlucky and run into like 3 fishes stacked on top of each other.

I thought it was very interesting that taking damage removed your air. I think, though, the way it was implemented made the game a little too easy (besides the camera-induced deaths). The air bubbles are plentiful and they replenish so quickly, it's weird for them to act as both a time replenisher (air decreasing over time) and a "health replenisher" (since taking hits decreases your air supply). Personally, it made me just want to go from one air bubble to the next. In fact, I could even go to an air bubble that had a fish on it, since the air replenished fairly quickly. I think it would be interesting (maybe this happens automatically at lower depths?) if your air supply was larger, but air bubbles were fewer and further apart? Or if air bubbles had limited supply and each could only recover up to a portion of your air supply. You might be able to find more elegant solutions if you thought about it.

I definitely love the 3D graphics, the fish are cute :] I have to say I'm impressed for a 48 hour compo entry. The mechanics are solid, the game is fun to play, and there's a surprising amount of content available. (I was really excited when I got the scuba gear ;D). Nice work! :D

Demon Dungeon by snade 2014-04-30T09:08:00

Nice game you guys have :D! It's awesome that each playthrough is generated randomly, and both the art and music are cool and set a fitting mood to the game.

If I had to give some critique though, it would be that the gameplay feels a little static. There's only one attack, which is understandable since y'all only had 72 hours, but even the potions feel like they don't give much health and magic potatos don't even do more damage than you could normally do on a random crit. In this way, the items don't feel like they have much of an effect and I felt like there wasn't really a way to turn the tides in my favor. All I could do is attack and hope for 6 damage hits on my side and misses on their side.

I think I also would have liked to see at least some kind of reward for fighting demons. Even if fighting remains generally a bad idea compared to avoiding battles, it'd be nice to have exp and levels or at least have a small chance to drop a potion from fights so that it isn't so frustrating when you get caught (especially when you get caught the instant you enter a room :b).

The AI on the demon's is awesome though! Running around them is a LOT of fun and I felt like I was learning their ways and wiles, thus getting better at avoiding them >:] Pretty fun game overall, and just my 2 cents about it.

Mine Upgrade by Keehan12 2014-04-29T08:01:00

Nice! Reminds me a lot of Cookie Clicker! Though, I found that starting the game felt really slow. It'd be nice if there was something to click on, things to look at, or updates to read to tide you over the first part (where you need to wait, but you also need to pay attention or you'll be stuck with just one worker). After the first part, the game definitely got better :]. I'm wondering how the optimal buying order works though, since the prices don't scale based on how many of each worker you have. Oh, and I thoroughly enjoyed the parallax scrolling you've got going on there :D Nice work on that!

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Eye Rush by asobi tech 2015-04-22T09:28:00

This game is really fun! I really like the mechanic of the eyeballs bouncing back and returning to you as ammo. The game is really smooth and plays really cleanly!

I think the visuals do obfuscate the game just a tad bit. With only 4 shades of grey/green, the enemies don't really pop out from the background (especially since they're also just squares) which can be dangerous for the player, especially when the enemies are on the smaller end of their size-change cycles. It can be really easy to miss one that's near you. Also, (and this is a a very minor thing) the font at the beginning of the game is a bit difficult to read as well.

Overall, the game runs really well and is a lot of fun to play! I think you have a pretty good scoring system as well, limiting the game by both time (so you can't just slowly rack up points by avoiding death) and with your chain system (dropping your chain is very detrimental to your score). Not to mention that the game is pretty fun to play both for those who just try to survive and blast things for 1 minute, as well as people trying to maximize their score. In that sense, the game is really balanced for a wide audience! One thing I would have liked to have, though, is a timer to tell me how far into my 1 minute I am. Preferably also counting down, because the first time I died by timer, I was confused because I thought I had accidentally run into a rogue square or something.

Great game, and I'm really impressed that this game was made under Compo restrictions!

Hitchhiker's Tales by Tangible Games 2015-04-22T08:46:00

The first playthrough was a little tough, but after figuring out how the game works, the game was really fun! I really appreciate the pixel art and the details like the UFO in the background :]!

I think one of the most difficult parts of the game is getting used to the throw trajectories. It not only changes with your height, but also with your momentum. I wasn't really able to get far in the game until I realized you could grab the aliens themselves, double jump, and instantly kill them on the drop! For me, that kind of rendered the whole "pick up objects and aim them" thing obsolete for me, because now I was just throwing aliens wherever and killing them one at a time.

I really like the idea of throwing the things around you, though. It would have been nice to see objects thrown from a higher distance have a bigger AoE impact on the ground, or be able to see projected trajectories of objects, or even just the ability to throw objects straight down beneath you!

That said, I really appreciate how smoothly all of the action happens. From the movement to the object throwing, the physics of the game are really nice feeling! Also, I was really hoping there'd be chihuahuas for me to throw at the aliens :b
Nice work you guys :D Love the game!

The Legend of the Fisherman by UrbanHelsing 2015-05-01T18:52:00

Cool game! I really like the concept of the game, and it's awesome that you got co-op to work! I like the way you use a single resource to power the whole game: fish are the weapons, the healing, and the money generation mechanic. I kind of got the same feeling I get with Animal Crossing and a lot of other games of wanting to optimize my path. I wanted to catch as many fish as I could, but not too many (so I could go get upgrades and hopefully catch them even faster). I wanted to sell all the fish I could to get more money, but not all of them, since I needed to fight slimes. I think it was a cool way to punish being greedy with your fish :b

I think one thing that could be improved about the game is some of the controlling. The camera, for one, has a nice sliding effect, but allows you to move too far off center. I appreciated that you guys took the time to get a smooth camera follow, but the player should still be relatively centered, otherwise it's hard to see where you're going! Also, I thought the controls were a little unintuitive. I'm used to touch typing, so I have my index finger on J usually. It didn't make too much sense to me to have to hit H to attack. I think I would have preferred the buttons JKL; instead of HJKL. It also makes it easier for me because I can switch fish with N and M with my index finger while attacking with K, rather than trying to control H, N, and M all with my index finger.

Overall, great concept; I think y'all could go pretty far with this if you wanted to continue with it post-jam :]!

Ad Libitum by Igor KinGamer 2015-05-01T19:10:00

I'm also not super familiar with piano keys. Though, the game doesn't really punish you for just spamming all the keys all the time (which is kind of what I ended up doing). I think it would be cool if you could only hit keys in time with the music (and that would make sense because it'd put rhythm into the gameplay). Though you already have a lot here, especially for just 24 hours! Nice work :]!

Super Skater Waiter by MikkelLevisen 2015-04-22T08:23:00

The game is really smooth; I think that's my favorite thing about it. Everything from the movement to the way the food plates kind of just fly onto your tray is awesome!

I think in a lot of ways the base gameplay was good enough to just be built off that. I was a little confused about how to use the plate gun. At first, I hoped that hitting the customers would delay their impatience with me, but it didn't seem to do that, so I didn't really find a good use for the plate gun (even though I guess it can delay people from getting to their tables). That said, it was still pretty fun to just shoot it around at people and see all the little pieces of plate left behind!

I think it would have been really cool to see some sort of progression / scaling in the game as well! I played for a while, but it didn't seem that the number of customers increased over time nor did their patience time decrease. Even just displaying how many skater dollars you've earned or how long you've been playing is a cool way to give the player feedback!

All in all, the game is really fun to play and looks really nice :]! I think y'all put a fair amount of time into the details and it feels really polished!

F A S T E R by ploy 2015-05-01T20:38:00

I agree that the game is fairly hard, even on the easiest setting. I think one main issue with the game is the green resource bar. It seems (from what I could tell) that both throwing your knife and dashing used the same resource, which is pretty limited already just trying to throw your knife. Even without dashing, I found that I couldn't throw knives as often as I wanted to, even if I had pretty good accuracy with them! Using any dashes at all seems to not only limit your ability to attack, but also only dodges one of the enemy's pass-bys. The speed at which you regenerate your green bar doesn't seem to match the enemy's movement speed.

I think some playtesting (and getting other people to playtest!!) and balancing would have done wonders for this game. That said, I did very much enjoy the main mechanic of throwing knives. I like that you only punished the player with a lost knife if they missed :b

Turbo Moon Hero by Photon 2015-04-25T00:54:00

This is a really cool application of the theme! I like that you gave the moon a little headband and gloves, it's really cute :]!

Although I'm also a fan of the single-direction orbiting and controlling speed, I think the game is still a bit too hard to control. One possibility could be that the world's movement feels a little slow. Another thing might be that there are only two speeds for the moon, so it's harder to get a good control over your defense. It'd be cool to see some system that would allow you to scale the speed of the moon, or possibly even pause the moon's movement?

By the way, I really appreciate that the game is embedded in this site. Super convenient! This game is really cool, I'm impressed you got all of this in 48 hours :D
