The Mask of Us by KirbiKaka 2014-04-29T09:03:00
The play on words made me smile, and the way you approached the theme reminds me of my game :3
But the game is a little bit short, and the gameplay could have been improved, maybe, to last longer.

But the game is a little bit short, and the gameplay could have been improved, maybe, to last longer.
Graphics, music and humor are great!
Well, the gameplay isn't that new, but it works.
The game is simple and a little hard, I caught myself trying to beat my precedent score. :3
But the sound when you get hit is horrible and I don't understand why this is related to Beneath the Surface.
Graphisms and Music are good!
But I haven't been in danger with depression around me, just clicking and holding buttons.
Difficulty should increase with time, maybe.
Well, after having played for 2 minutes without adding anything, I got an error :
main.lua 380 : attempt to index global 'enemyType' (a nil value)
main.lua 380 : in function 'spawnEnnemy'
main.lua 45 : in function 'update'
404 too :/
The story, said by this voice, is kinda cool!
Found a bug you might want to correct : when you go back to the left after the second level change, you fall to no end.
Well, the fact that you have to go back after your way down is good. Reminds me of Gattaca :3
The game is in the theme, and has a good aspect and a good music, but I think it's too slow, and maybe too repetitive.
The cops aren't really a danger, if they could follow you in the paths underground, that would be great (no digging, just in caves you already dug).
I went till the fifth level to see if something new would crop up.
I have an issue while trying to launch it on Mac OSX :
"Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: org/ludumdare29/Game : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0"
I have tried launching it with the command line "java -jar ludum[...].jar" and with the sh script, resulting in this error.
I liked the music and the general mood but the gameplay is a little bit limited.
Well, that was kinda ... strange ...
Same there, error (Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: LD29-Return To The Surface.jar).
Fixed after updating my JRE.
I've beaten it after 3 retries and the game is in the theme :3
Not too hard, not too easy, maybe too short.
An ambient music should've been good too.
Thanxs to everyone who played it ! I know it's not that good, but my first LD entry reached the top 100 thanks to you.
Well, it's beautiful and it has a good music, but platforming is really hard with that stick man.
The music is really good. I don't really understand why there is a black and white copy of you, and what's the link with the theme, though.
The concept is good, but kinda repetitive.
After a full revolution of the moon, I just gave up the Earth :3
Launching it on Mac OSX by double clicking isn't working, but the command line "java -jar game.jar" works fine if you're in the directory.
Well, the Web link is not for a Web version of it, please change it to Windows (Mirror) :3
The sounds are cool and so are the graphics, but what am I supposed to do ?
Difficult to control (but also fun), I found myself doing backflips outside the sea many times.
The space we're allowed to navigate in is a little bit tiny too, but that's ok.
Same with the controls, but it's a good immersion :3
Must. Sell. All the things!
I don't really see the link with the theme :/
Nice arcade, though, maybe too easy.
The volume of the lasers' sounds is too high imho to enjoy the music
Nice puzzle game!
It took me time to discover the solutions. :3
Punching button on the mouse brought me to a strange hands configuration
The art is good, and the controls responsive, that's great :3
That's fast and fun :D
The indicator of which collision is up on every screen is a cool idea
Nice sounds too :3
This is hard. Too hard, maybe, or the gameplay isn't fitting, I don't really know. Good music, though.
Too bad the music doesn't loop :|
Otherwise, the game is great :D
I finally beat it >.<
That was fun, physics is not my friend :(
That immersion was brilliant ! :D
Controls are smooth but the gameplay is kinda repetitive
The mood is good, with parallax scrolling <3
Nice mood! I'm not used to this kind of strategy so I'm pretty bad, but I can feel the work you put in it.
Well, I wouldn't be a good spaceship driver >.<
Story's art and voices are great, the art of the game itself was lower than what the intro made me expect but whatever :D
The concept is there, but the controls made me uncomfortable because the players want to stick to the matrix of the level
Nice take on the theme and outro :3
I went to the third level with 5 screens before I quit.
Nice game! The music is really cool, and with the graphics, they're setting a good mood.
Clever concept, nicely done, and with many levels, that's great :3
The intro made me think that the game would last longer :3
That was short but it fits in the theme!
The graphics are awesome :3
Nice to play, I wish you had more time to make it better :3
Well, that was quick. Good immersion, but not so much of gameplay.
Nice graphics and audio, but what's the link with the theme ? p_o
The concept is good, and you managed to make different levels about it.
Though, it took me really long to understand that you could double jump, making me rage on the first level ^_^"
Well, I navigated, navigated, but what could I do else? Nice music, though! :3
Same here, won't launch on Mac OSX. No errors, nothing happens.
Thanks for the feedback! :3
About the tutorial and story screens, a colorblind friend of mine said he couldn't read, so I changed the color of the font, it must be better to read them now.
Well, since some people couldn't finish the game, I quickly made a playthrough :3
I'm used to the game so it's not really what the game looks like when someone discovers it but here it is : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RA8GuxyolJk
So close :D
The game feels slow in general, but its correct on the game mechanics :3
We must go deeper :D
As I see this "UPDATE 09/03/2014 : a new tuto, new controls, and ONE new level ! Enjoy !", I don't think you can do that after the 72 hours. I haven't played before the update, so I can't tell if you really added content to your game, but be careful with the rules, guys.
A planet in the last level doesn't need to be linked to the others, must be a bug ^_^
Otherwise, that's a simple but yet effective game! :3
The music is awesome :3
But having a platformer with ennemies kicking you out of the path was difficult :/
A game you can't win is interesting, never played that before
But no matter what, I didn't know what I was supposed to do when I was cleaning the body. Therefore, I understood that I couldn't win only by reading the comments afterward, and not during the game, I thought I was protecting the wrong cells.
I couldn't see the menu at the beginning because of the default 1080p setting, but I kinda figure it out, the 720p option was for me :3
The hitbox of the punches isn't well linked to the player, and feels strange.
The art of the story is great, and the musical ambiance too!
The mood is great, it really feels like an old game! :3
The rifle is da best :3
Nice game, couldn't stay alive long though
Starting from the beginning again and again was a bit harsh, I wasn't good with the gameplay. The art and the music are superb!
It took me time to figure out what was going on, but once it happened, it became magical :3
After beating the first level and warping to the green one, I also thought it was a bug since I couldn't move anymore ^_^"
The game is short, but it works well
I don't really like the way you're sticked to a matrix when you want to move, but well, why not
Designs are effective :3
That's well linked to the theme and the gameplay is good! I ended up getting stuck too ^_^"
That music :O
Everyone died :(
I would like to see what it could have been if finished, but I don't get the game. Do I have to eliminate all the packets because those are lost packets? (Without doing anything at all, I'm getting a pretty good score, that made me laugh :D)
I feel like having banana peels under my feet :3
The game is working fine otherwise, the theme justification wasn't so present in the game though.
The tile replacement windows wasn't a really good idea ^_^"
I think the center and the roads were not necessary to build, but hey, I built them :3
Nice game though, the transition between the ages is good and it has a lot of content.
But I think you misunderstood the theme :/
Space puns are the best :D
Nice take on the theme! It's pretty funny to play :D
That was fine, I really think making two planets to collide is a good way to provide energy to both of them :D
I found the gravity a little slow when I had to play with it, but it's nice to see it implemented
The take on the ninja's fragility is original :3
The most efficient way to win is to walk on the robots' heads. Like a real ninja o/
Nicely done with the theme!
The end of the game could have been something more special than a black screen, maybe :3
The art and the music are good, the bosses are a little bit too easy, though.
156! Phew!
Interesting concept, that's the first time I've seen a Game of Life used like that.
The music was made using abundant-music.com isn't it? I think I recognized what this software can produce.
The gameplay is kinda innovative but a little bit repetitive (the music as well ^_^)
Nice AI, though.
Very good mood, but i got stuck too after having the "code" in the book and the clock on the table. A spoiler would be great :3
Nice transition when you lose!
Other types of ennemies would be great rather than upgrading the snowmen : it doesn't appear on screen that they're better than the ones before and it would better reward the player.
The controls changing with the mouse direction and the recoil made me going to strange directions when near the border of the screen. Nice fast paced game though.
Thanks for the feedback!
@Enzo42: Where did you got stuck in layer 5? Top left room? You can go back through the door if that's the case. If it isn't that, that's a bug I need to fix :/
OSX link makes me download a .exe :/
Good music, but I don't manage to find a link with the theme.
The camera is sometimes not following the player after having been in Spirit mode.
Pretty good little game :3
Graphics and Music creates a very good mood!
But it does have a lack of gameplay :/
The controls feel strange at the start but I got used to it. Btw, 480s to extinguish a fire makes me the worst chopper pilot in the history of firemen.
What a programmer art :D
What a song :o
The game was maybe too ambitious!
Nice concept here :3
Some music could have really improved it!
I completed ~20 levels before I came back here to see there was no end ^_^"
Nice level generation and pushers pathfinding :3
That surely was nice for being developed in 4 hours, but the game itself still has bug and not so much gameplay :/
Nice little game with a good music :3
Using the green color for a malus wasn't good though.
Cool game design, the controls are pretty innovative. Maybe some music could add some value to the arcade feeling.
Doesn't work on my Mac with Java8 : "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Can't load library: /var/folders/vc/gs_6_29j1cb9mf8fqxp_w4cr0000gn/T/libgdxmeastnt/75260a42/liblwjgl.dylib" :/
The physics doesn't respond well to my mouse :/
When doing a movement across half the screen, the package barely moves.
Mac OSX related problem ?
(I will wait till it's fixed to vote :3)
I don't really see the link with the theme. Nice little puzzle game, though. It only needs more levels with the mechanics you already have implemented :3
The cat's tile doesn't correspond to its actual hitbox size, thus you can get stuck for nothing around corners.
Using the spells of different types of gladiators and building the best team is great!
