I normally don't have a green thumb when it comes to plant life..
.. same problem here, I got it going good.. but was too greedy, I grew so many leafes, that in the end the water respawn was just not enough to sustain my tree.
html version was playing fine for me (chrome).
Beat the game. Nice, that there was a boss.
Only thing that saved me from frustration was the nice save-system on S and itempickup :)
you made the mono-color-look look good :)
Awesome review MunkeeBacon!
crashed for me when i looked at thomas ("look thomas")
more info: It did the "the program stopped working" windows dialog.
the narration is brilliant, the game itself needs some enemies or goodies or something I think :)
sadly must confirm, web version does not start (titl0.png error)
i enjoyed it, cool game.
but somehow I did not manage to kill boats (I just thumbed on the deck from above) but hey, I ate many birds!
I hope eating some birds makes up for all the sharks I blew up while making my game ;)
played through it. have you changed stuff around? (Because it was easy to beat for me, the comments suggest it's kind of hart. I made it to the end screen with the planet thingy. - tough I was getting frustrated at the end.. had to go 5 fields right.. took forever since I always drew GO LEFT cards ^^ )
wow, really enjoyed it. but at lvl 3 it gets really hard to play on a touchpad :) - I need to revisit with a mouse!
I like that it's totally different theme-wise from what I have seen so far, and still fits.
Also woah.. hard to play with touchpad, still made it to lvl3 .. is that one beatable?:)
hi monaarc,
I will test your game later! (@work, no downloads right now)
But a quick reply to a comment you left on my game: the first enemy submarine appears after you shoot your tenth shark :)
Greetings,
JP
Thank you all for the feedback.
to Recon:
- there is now a score, if you shoot and hit nothing you are punished
- there are now rocks so you can't stay in a straight line on the lower half of the screen
- there will be enemy submarines on the top half of the screen... (not yet though)
Okay, I am done now.
Latest features: enemy submarine and a completion screen
Enjoy :)
Thanks for all the feedback.
monaarc: After ten shark-kills you get one submarine, then it's ten shark-kills again.
Thanks again for the comments.
@Gaspard: yes, positive score is no problem, you get -5 for each shot you miss, just don't miss and you're golden ;)
I like that it's multiplayer.
Switches things up a little.
But if one player doesn't play nice (for example just keeps on shooting, there no way to get to them, so it lacks some balance.)
in the html5 version I had the problem that on my second death restarting with R did not work. the hint disappeared but I still lay there in the dark. (it was after a pretty deep fall)
I like it, but I sometimes wish I could do more for my success. Meaning I would like to slow down, when it's absolutely impossible to otherwise make it through the next obstacle.
I don't get it.
I can move the cam around fine, but mouse left click does nothing, I did not find a way to interact.
Read instructions twice..
Sorry, but I don't get it.
I can move left and right. Up uses a dynamite and destroys a block. You can do that 15 times.. but except for draining some what nothing happens.
If you had left some kind of how-to-play that would have been really usefull :)
Ooops - there is a readme file!
I will play again :)
left/right arrow key - move
up - remove block over you
x - remove a lot of blocks
z - interchange blocks next to you
space - remove block in the place where you are
r - restart level
- first level hard
- second level .. harder
- third, first try :)
.. some semi hard ones..
.. and then the lava just falls on your head, didn't get that one.
how far did i make it? :)
correction (sorry for kind of spamming here) actually made it to the "you win screen" - wonder how many people made it :)
reached level 9 :) - it is quite fun, but as Kragnir said, it's too much luck based for my taste.
could be a cool game, if I may present a wishlist:
- more ammo
- ability to shoot again while the first projectile is still there (it takes a little too long for it to settle)
I had a problem that sometimes when I was out of ammo the game would not reset. (A simple reload did fix that.)
it would have been great also if you could abriviate the actions. typing fight/flame/attack/heal for the 100th time is a little annoying - f f a h would be more user friendly. :)
nice
only control flaw: if you want to dig a stone that is beeing crushed, you don't dig (because it's getting crushed) but move there and then get crushed yourself.
I would prefere if moving against a stone that is beeing crushed would not move you in it's position. (you die 100% of the time, so it's never an action you want to take, but i did it by accident a few times.)
thanks for the undo button, otherwhise it would be too demotivating. :)
Hey SuperOkeunicon,
This might be the solution for your music:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6045384/playing-mp3-and-wav-in-java
(Or maybe just for the next java game you want to put music into.)
Greetings,
JP
nice sounds .. booom ;)
and thanks for the music mute, so after a while you can turn it off.
also really sure where it connects to the theme.
but i do like the heli controls!
it was fun to play, but I don't see the theme in it.
After playing a while I also had a hangup in my browser. (using chrome, became unresponsive for a while, not sure what happened)
really nailed the theme.
(but the gameplay not so much, from what I can tell)
33581 .. became really stressfull at the end there :)
I like it, for a replay I would like to be able to turn the music off.
can't be scored. weird.
There was actually a bug, so that upgrading tower damage did no additional damage. Just fixed that.
65395 .. is this a good score? :)
It's really not enough room to escape the enemy lasers.
I must admit I didn't completly get what was going on and the room was becoming small really fast :)
Wow.. took me long to grasp, that i did not have to make it over to the other side without reaching the bottom of the screen :)
374.000 .. is this good? :)
Best action of all games I have played so far. Nice :)
Really cool use of the theme!
yeah, the collision is really unforgiving (collision boxes too big? - I too think you simply can't get the snowflake to the right and down from the starting point :( )
I like this, from the source code:
this.TOTAL_GAME_TIME = 1000 * 60 * 3; // 5 minutes
Just thought it was funny :)
btw: the source isn't linked directly, but you can view it here: https://github.com/jrgrafton/ludum-jam-31/ (figured it out from the game link ;) )
web one worked for me.
it's really hard. the purple square just would not die.
wow.. thought I was stupid when I could not beat level 3 ... then I found out about drilling ;)
btw: the big one is actually the last one. (source: I won :) )
I agree: grid movement would have made this easier to play. but nice anyway!
The interaction with the zombies was kind of weird for me, the first one fell into my shelter and we touched multiple times without me losing hp. But the later zombie touches did indeed hurt ;)
Cool mood.
The boss fight was intese (the "eye" that lasers you). I beat it.. and then was disapointed, that nothing happend and I was stuck in its room. - or did I miss something?)
Also, up until this point there was absolutly nothing relating to the theme.
the idea with the "fake" 3d is nicely done!
Score and somewhat more feedback when something is hit and this could be a fun little game.
chrome deletes the download as harmful (not even with the option to keep the file)
Wow, really liked that one.
Nice climbing and overall feel to the monkey controls.
Also absolutely the best interpretation of the theme ;) (why? Because that's what I did too - right down to eating bananas to gain more poo :) )
And: Wow, humans and also poo are way more deadly than I thought :)
It's weird as hell :)
thumbs up!
this was a fun game, I like how the bananas could stop the bullets and how they flew curved through the air.
Would have liked it a little more if aiming the bananas was more straight forward.
a nice and quick game.
not terribly innovative, but fun one the less :)
Had problems locating myself on the first try or understanding what was going on - but reading the game description did help and explain things.
But when the smooth talker had talked all green soldiers in the level into liking him, I could not figure out what todo next.
Also I guess bombs are not really unconventional.. (but I am one to talk on that.. my monkey it throwing feces, not very unconventional either, for monkeys at least.)
Very nice puzzler - took me a while to figure out what the plan was. I thought the second level was easier than the first.
got stuck on the one screen one with 3 sticks
I like the idea of stealing the powers of the enemies.
Also very cool background music!
I would have voted for "space" as an alternative to the mouse button. (I have to admit, it took me a second to even regocnice what "LB to shoot" was meaning.)
I liked it, but damn.. I missed one guy somewhere.
I really like it.
Also great post mortem - timelapse and gameplay and comments. Three thumbs up.
Also, you used poo as a weapon too. Another thumb up :)
(Running quickly out of thumnbs here)
controls are really a bit weird.. I think walk towards mouse should always be the left mouse button (we know this from things like diablo and so on) - asdw should either be absolute movement (up down left right) or "a" and "d" rotate, and w moves into the direction you are currently looking.
The mix you made isn't very intuitive.
Then again, killing sheep with sheep.. really unconventional :)
hey there,
I don't know how you ran into the loading between lifes / menu and game things with phaser. you could just load every asset once before the game starts.. and then never load anything again. (assets are carried over the different states!)
also (at least on chrome) there is a glitch with the sound after you die for the first time.
other then that really nice pixel graphic and cool music!
really nice, I think it's one of the best I have played this ludum dare. Rated accordingly :)
Your windows link seems to be dead.
I guess I am not smart enough, but I really didn't get what to do. Tried to enter some words that came to mind..
All I can give is this constructive (I hope) feedback:
If this is the demo for your UI, I would strongly suggest, that pressing "enter" should hit the default submit key (in this case "search") because it's not fun to reach over to the mouse after typing something in :)
5576 points - it's really hard because the target moves pretty slow (if you have to follow a guy, he nearly outruns you).
I like the lightning effect and the sound :)
First I though ugh.. too easy, I don't even die if I run into walls. But then I noticed it's an escort mission :)
Also a nice idea to include the kids in making games!
I got really dizzy - it looks super nice, but I somehow think it would have been better just to change the direction you are growing and not rotate the screen.
Really nice graphics..
And the concept really reminds me of the duel in the dresden chronicels :) (well ok, no lasers were used there, but an object was pushed between the guys ^^)
Cool concept - and quite fun with two people.
But I have to say, the very short music loop went on my nerves pretty quickly :) [I really shouldn't complain, I can't do it any better.. that's why my sheep don't have background music.]
Also the webversion seems to be oversized by just a few pixels in chrome (you get scrollbars around the game).
Another really fun take on the two button theme - so much different functions on two buttons :)
Full theme points!
Cool sound effects, and as of yet absolutly the best hats.
Plane on a snake. NICE :)
What I didn't like is that you don't die even if you are only the head and bump into things. That made it too easy I think.
Otherwhise great game!
Cool game.
Sometimes it felt a little weird how I was pulled into the gravity field of asteroids, but other then that really nice :)
Cool take on the classic!
no kidding, it's not easy.
I think from a technical viewpoint not capturing the mouse in the web version would have made it a bit better experience. But it totally was playable.
I like, that you used the grow theme not on the playable character but on the obstacles :)
Really cool graphics and animations.
Nice little growing game.
What I liked most is exactly what my own game is missing - you made levels. It starts easy and not with all mechanics at once.
In hindsight that's what I should have done with my sheep.
very weird intro :)
But cool sunglasses!
So first of all cool idea with the multitasking the gathering suns, killing insects and abilities / resources to manage.
My problems: The green arrow on the lower left, what does it do? - How do i progress, why couldn't i use the third ability.. i guess i didn't manage to upgrade, but i am not sure why, I thought I tried the green arrow on the lower left. But I might not have had enough resources.
Will play again :)
It's bit weird choice of colors, and I really didn't like the flashing when losing points.
If you would add a shadow to the ball, it would be way easier to see where (in the 3d space) it actually is.
First of all, I wish I would have never gotten background music ;)
It's a cool idea to apply the grow theme to growing the game itself in content and features.
I was missing a way to restart the game (I played the download version, because of chrome - so no page reload).
Also I really didn't get the controls the first time around (i had already planted all seeds, before I noticed you could move the "guy".. didn't get that it was a guy I have to admit :) )
You captured the gameboy feeling very good, also with the music.
What I didn't get was how you could tell land had been developed. (I only got, that you could develop the same tile multiple times after playing once and then reading the instructions later ;) )
One game random was really mean to me, in the first 3 rounds (I think) everyone died of random events.
Overall a freh idea, good job :)
Really cool idea and execution - I wouldn't even know how to communicate between tabs! Nice one!
Also: I ruined christmas - and I am wondering why the code didn't work that was on the inside in the present time.
Uhm... are you ok??
What did I just play there..
I really like the music.
1249 :)
Just not sure how the room theme applies.
Dear god, why would you do that? gaaah. no more.
Also what do you know about my behind.. and my soul?
Really cool (for a text adventure :) )
Hm.. yes, I see what you did there.
But there is no room and no ratings.. so why did I click so much?! :)
The letters rock :)
Good game to get rid of some rage :)
Who doesn't like a fun chainsaw massacre - nice :)
Very mean placement of a porter potty.
(Do you know there is a short story by stephen king about beeing trapped in one? - felt reminded of that.)
The method of input overly complicates.. I think I would have liked it better if I just could use the keyboard instead of the virtual ingame one.
Uhm.. I did so many rooms. Did I miss something?
32 west moon room :)
Interesting idea - even if it feels like many rooms instead of one. But I guess in the end they are all one, when collapsed onto one another.
this was totally weird..
I hope the ingame-games aren't representative of what ludum dare will have to offer ;)
I am also not 100% sure the error that was encountered at the end was intentional? Too meta for me maybe.
(It started glitching, a private chat was going on and then it encountered a fatal error)
Are you okay?
Kind of depressing.. but it creates a mood in any case!
really nice, finally something "arcade" with nice action.
Oh wow, you could start with one of those "vr job simulators" .. I would get fired in no time :)
Web Version worked fine for me in Chrome, nothing was clipped.
Me against the bugs.
It played smoothly and after the first "accident" I got that the white circles mean there is something bad going to spawn.
I found it irritating that the stuff on the ground had no influence (it looks like walls) but you and the bugs just run through.
The handling of the player was nice :)
Also .. uhm.. room theme? :)
I'm sorry but the music really got onto my nerves.
When I was about to give up because there was nothing except the labyrinth I saw the portal and the text and kept going.. until I was forces about 4 screens away from the only interesting stuff so far.. which is when I gave up.
Nice job on drawing all these in the 48 hours.
Feels like a childs book :)
Uhm, what action key?
I can jump around in the bed room and the room outside and that's it.. nothing to drag or I don't get it.
Will check back if somebody can explain how do do "it".
Okay.. I get it now :)
You can drag the room you come out of around, with the "J" key.
But i got stuck next to the yellow colored tiles, because i dropped my room into the pit to the right of it.
Bear, cool. Chainsaws, better!
Getting shot by rangers way off screen.. meh..
Have to leave the theme-room also meh ;)
But cool concept :)
Cool idea, but the introductory levels are over before you even know which of the dots you are and what is happening :) - still figured it out.
I have to admit, after 3 fully light rooms I got bored :)
funny concept, nice pixel graphics.
The interaction between menu items and 3d view with the mouse feels clunky.
Also I really could not figure out what to do.
I created some material, but never had enough to create any items. (It always said I need 5 of something..)
Cool idea with the bouncing off walls - I just didn't get when you bounce of and when you don't because the line always indicates you will.
Tried to plug them all :) - only two minutes though.
Really well done
Feels a lot like work...
Your download is missing the data directory, the exe alone is not enough:
There should be 'House Invade v1.1_Data'
folder next to the executable
Too bad you didn't finish it.
I really like phaser too btw :)
I really liked the shotgun, too bad it had so little ammo.
Cool game, I actually had something similar in mind before coming up with my spider idea.
It gets really hard.
I also notices that some of the shots bug out and kind of float around instead of going straight forward.
Funny game, but I feel you cheated the theme a bit :)
