Nice sort of quantic gameplay like it.

Cool game, but a bit confusing

oskardevelopment 2016-12-13 19:13

Creepy game and gave me a headache! Didn't really figure out the mechanic of the last level, though did expect something more than a "The End" at the last elevator ride. Would I get another story if I went upwards rather than downwards? Great graphics! Was there a reason behind the cats and the people that appeared at times?

davision 2016-12-13 19:17

Well, I'm not sure if I like that the repetition of the simple task is part of the horror. When I make all the rooms I get out of that hell right, right? Certainly a really cool concept, it could be much more. Or I am just too lazy to trying to find more.

Trippy game. I didn't complete it I couldn't figure out how. But I did enjoy it :)

Great game! The animations are smooth, and the gameplay is really unique. Sadly i got stuck in a wall while moving backwards a while into the game.

@oskardevelopment Sorry about the headache! We really wanted somthing more than that simple ending but well, we ran out of time and energy. What cats? ^^

@Davision Working never pays, except with more work

@ThatSnillet Oh, you must have backed onto an elevator tile. Never considered that. Will put it on the todo-list

It sure fits the theme! I made it to the next floor. I bet in those big hotels, it must feel like this as a cleaner. Well done!

This was very creepy. I'm glad there's a "mood" category, because I think that's the best way to explain how this game succeeds; I wouldn't say it was particularly "fun", but I definitely enjoyed playing it!

I found that the layouts were a tad too confusing at times. Obviously the repetition and feeling of being lost is meant to be a part of the horror aspect, but I did feel kind of guilty for running around randomly and lucking into the solutions by the end. I was going to suggest that it should start out with less teleporting and glitching to ease the player into it, but realize that a less jarring intro could just as easily make people think that the game has no real content and quit before it starts the puzzles. It's a tough problem to solve!

On a more minor note: as someone else mentioned above, it would've been nice if the ending was a bit more involved. I was kind of expecting for the last elevator to open into room 753 instead of just cutting to an end screen.

Other than that this was a solid entry! The screen glitches, the rare flickers of silhouetted people, and the sound effects especially did a good job of hammering home the atmosphere. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but I noticed that when I stopped trying to puzzle my way through areas and just rushed it instead, the little thump in the move animation started to sound like a heartbeat. Really bumped up the feeling of stress!

this game freaks me out. Please take that as a compliment. This is one of the most interesting entries I've seen so far. Good work

Your games always creep me out - like a bad dream (or trip). You have this knack for making everyday things feel... sinister? Not sure if that's the word I'm looking for, but either way, awesome work.

Interesting game! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 37 games, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/5DzNI6J29PY

I cleaned Room 753, I cleaned Room 753, I cleaned Room 753, I cleaned Room 753, I cleaned Room 753, I cleaned Room 753, I cleaned Room 753, I cleaned Room 753, I cleaned Room 753, I cleaned Room 753, I cleaned Room 753, I cleaned Room 753, I cleaned Room 753, ... then I ran out of towels, wet floor signs and do not disturb signs.
I don't really know what to say, it was a strange experience and therefore liked it. The glitch effect was nice and I just couldn't get enough of the squeaking.

jpdev 2016-12-16 22:05

Uhm.. I did so many rooms. Did I miss something?

ethankennerly 2016-12-17 04:05

When I opened up the rooms my girlfriend said "Agh! It's like a nightmare!" When I opened doors to track my progress and found the elevator I felt a moment of relief. When that ride ended at another hallway, my hope fell.

obvious_san 2016-12-17 12:05

Really interesting take on the theme, like a vision of hell! I wasn't really sure what I actually did to get through some of the levels, but I found the whole thing fascinating and enjoyable. I actually even enjoyed doing up the rooms! Good job!

Got stuck on Second level, don't really know what to do there. Graphics when in full screen on Linux bugs out, I had to use windowed mode. Also looking at the effects somewhat hurts my eyes so I can't play it for long enough to try to finish the game :(

rockhoppergames 2016-12-19 14:03

I very much enjoyed this, though I had to go play a higher intensity game right after as a palate cleanser! For the first few floors, I could just enjoy the pleasant satisfaction of cleaning the rooms, which reminded me of the Home section from The Beginner's Guide. After that, I could amuse myself by opening as many doors as possible, and somewhere between the two I ended up getting to the last level before I really started wanting to escape!

I'm a little disappointed there was nothing I could do with the cat, but there were still a lot of pleasant surprises to find around the hotel. I had a bit of trouble telling what was intentional and what was not, but things like being able to see through unloaded rooms, and the occasional conjoined room added to my experience. So either way, I'm glad that's how it worked out!

Nice mood! :O I really liked the concept of the game, though it felt kinda confusing at times. :P Nonetheless, this was a really great experience!

Visual style is great! Simple, but delivers the mood in a really nice way! The glitches really help with the mood, but also help us with the "wait, did the hallway just change?" factor, which really puzzled me. :P

Nice choice of sound effects and elevator music. It kinda creeped me out, tbf. And I kinda expected some scares, which didn't happen, but always find it good when a game creates this kinda expectation!

My complain would be with some of the backwards walking mechanic, since it's needed, you should do something when the player gets close to the elevator, since we kinda get stuck in game. :/

But really, this entry is great! Nice work! Keep going! :D

All clean and no play makes dx0ne a dull boy. All clean and no play makes dx0ne a dull boy. All clean and no play makes dx0ne a dull boy. All clean and no play makes dx0ne a dull boy. All clean and no play makes dx0ne a dull boy.

This going to make me crazy, 20mn i'm on it, I still don't know what to do, if their a end or not, I'm so lost !

nightshadow0 2016-12-26 20:04

Went through the routine of setting up each room for a while until i decided to rebel and just run to the elevator, and only then did i realize it was a maze game.
Interesting idea, but after a while it became monotonous and started to lose my interest, i kept expecting something new to show up that never did.
