I loved the concept of evolving based on how you defeated enemies!
I watched blay09 code this as I also use Java + libgdx and it was fun to watch. Very good game and challenging difficulty while still beatable with practice.
Hope you get high votes!
Fun game. Pretty neat puzzle mechanics. The final boss solution was not obvious at all, and it took forever for you to be able to do what you need to do (literally a waiting game). Still enjoyable.
First and only game with all 5 stars for me... All the references (Flappy and Banjo&Kazooie) and more! Just wow! Amazing all around! Hard to believe this was done in <72 hours! As others have said, "Would throw money at" if made into a bigger game or if the same studio made another Metroidvania with the same feel/style.
This was very fun! I was able to crash the game by holding the left mouse and right mouse at the same time (found that out on accident). I loved the minor exploration and challenge in the short level that was provided. The neat thing about it all is that it would be easy to "mod" and have users make their own levels too.
Pretty good game. It felt empty when no one was on, but still cool concept.
Clever... Very clever. Haha
Very strange game. Tried different combinations of things, but kept getting the same ending. It's unclear as to what the player needs to do or if there is more than one ending.
I loved the psuedo-3d graphics. It would have been nice with at least a few SFX and maybe some music. The gameplay was frustrating as there was no way to attack chasing enemies until you found a sword in which case you just run into enemies.
Very nice game! All the levels seemed balanced. I got uneasy in the dark levels, but figured my way around (I'm glad the levels weren't too big). It did leave me wanting for more levels by the end so that's a plus. Very fun, great graphics, great levels, great mechanics. A+
It pulls you in to give you an interesting surprise at the end. The best part of this game was the graphics. I always like games with multiple endings, so that was a plus.
Mostly great! I wish I had time to finish it, but having to hunt down all the clues from scratch again with slow dialog (which isn't a problem the first time around) is really tedious. I did get to the third scenario. Very fun; you get some good ratings from me.
Made it to floor 129 before dying. Fun simple little game. I think the water could have risen a bit faster to give it more challenge (at least have it always be at the bottom of the screen as a minimum height). Loved the simple block and slash combat.
Great game. I really enjoyed it. The gameplay was solid and was well balanced. Neat artstyle too
If anyone has issues running it in Firefox, it worked perfectly in Chrome. I loved the graphics; very cutesy. I agree that it needs some variety, but it was fun nonetheless.
I couldn't figure out what to do initially, but I got it. I did get stuck in a pit in I think the third level (the one that introduced yellow) and couldn't jump out. Neat little mechanic. I also liked the sfx the drops made that fit the chords of the BGM.
Nice simple game considering it was your second go. It should definitely be ported over to mobile as the simple controls would work well there.
Sorry about the difficulty. I did lower the speed of the urchins after watching my wife play, but I beat it multiple times when they were faster. Don't give up!
Thanks for all the awesome reviews guys/gals! If I had the chance, I'd go ahead and change the collision box a bit (for the urchins at least); and if I knew any music tools well, that'd be the #1 thing I'd have added as music is really important in games to me. Thanks for the constructive criticism too; I won't be able to learn from my mistakes without it!
Thanks again for all the constructive criticism! Again, most of the design and lack of variety came from lack of time (and I had a headcold the whole time) so I was only able to make one enemy (and the boss wasn't too hard to build from that).
I am aware of the possibility to get stuck if you use keys outside of the area that you are in; I tried to minimize that; had I more time I would have made at least one more key to solve that or implemented metroidvania-like abilities like I'd have liked to in the original plans.
I'm also aware that you can carry one of the keys to the near end for use in a hidden area... ;)
Neat implementation of a stealth game. Cutesy graphics. The "screaming" sound was a bit harsh on the ears though. Definitely needs more levels too!
The first two rooms were fine, but the ramp up in difficult for room 666 was probably not a good idea without giving the player time to adjust to harder enemies. I did finally get past it. Fun game, nonetheless.
Very fun game for its simplicity! Towards the end it did get a little repetitive, but it was really satisfying to run around with all your zombie minions wreaking havok through the levels. Finished it in my first try too!
I got the true ending in the first try! Pretty neat story! I'll checked all of the other endings and the true was definitely the most satisfying. I always love games with multiple endings. Good job!
Neat little exploration game. Couldn't get very far because the rocks would get stuck on things very easily making it frusterating to advance. I liked the atmosphere, especially with the glowing objects in the darkness and the music.
Definitely wish there were more levels. Very fun for what there is. Great graphics too! I'm not even squidding!
Frustrating, but original. Neat concept, mood, and gameplay. Hurts my wrist to slam x so much though.
Could have been something neat if it was longer than 15 seconds. Nice graphics at least!
The game has solid tiles, but a maze-like gameplay. I felt I only got so far because I happened to stumble upon the correct direction. There certainly were not enough air bubbles underwater to facilitate exploring unless you know exactly where you're going. I didn't end up finishing it because dying meant playing the whole game over from the beginning. Checkpoints and/or more bubbles would have made this game less frustrating.
I did however, love the audio. Good ambient light background music, coupled with the breathing really set the mood.
Very cool that you made an NES rom! Though I wish the gameplay consisted of more than pressing A to get gold (a la cookie clicker). Very neat though!
Pretty neat little game. It was kind of hard to tell where to go since the view distance was so small, but I like that. I just wish that there were more platforms to jump on so I could play in longer than 20 second intervals. I really liked the windiness on the title screen. Definitely sets the mood. Same goes for the creepy sharks/monsters in the water.
Music got repetitive (I played on my first run to 2km) and the difficultly should have increased as you went along (increased speed). Pretty fun for a little bit, but with no increase in difficulty it starts to fall flat bit.
Got about 130 gems. The difficulty choice idea was neat. I didn't really like the choice in music considering the color scheme which seemed a bit darker. I only wish there was more variety and possibly even an ending based on how many times you went each route. It has fun gameplay for how simple it is.
Pretty funny game made even more funny with the Hall of the Mt. King in the background. Very fun. Only downside is being able to hit your own button, which wouldn't be a problem if sometimes your own sharks did spawn inside/just underneath it. Overall, very fun.
Nice mood and atmosphere. The gameplay was a little stale, but the atmosphere kept me going. Wasn't motivated enough to replay to see if there was a second ending if I collected those three pixels I missed and couldn't go back in the level to get.
Fun little game. The coffee bit was pretty funny too. The controls were a bit hard, but that's fine. Going to fast though makes hitting lava too easy, so it seems the best strategy is to limit your coffee intake.
great all around; save points could have made this game less tedious because it was so easy to die. The movement was hilarious. His face reminded me of a titan from Attack of the Titans. Great mood overall, and really fun!
Neat on rails (and off) shooter. I kind of felt I would have had more fun being able to take out the enemies (with explosion sounds!) rather than just jump through the middle of them all only taking out some of the smaller bots. I loved the graphics. I think with some sound, music, and a little balancing this would have improved it greatly. Nonetheless, it's a good game.
A very simple game, but complete at least. The corridors were pretty tight so it was hard to jump through some of them.
It was a bit slow, honestly, but despite that I beat it twice for both endings. I didn't like that the 'good' ending was the easier way to get through the last level and the 'end' ending was the long and harder way. Still, the puzzles required some thought so I did enjoy solving them.
Great art, good music. I feel the dialogue would have had a deeper effect on my emotions with names rather than "father", "daughter", and "brother". As is, it was a little cheesy. I also don't understand the supposedly cheating guy's purpose in the beginning, or rather why it mattered if he was a cheater to her or not. It was a good story-game otherwise.
Fun game. Love the graphics. I wish you were able to jump and swing the pickaxe at enemies. Had no problems with it otherwise.
Holy crap! Very creepy! Never found out where to go in the end, but the red eyed monster you made was terrifying. The progressively louder noise at it approached so slowly... Great job!
Difficult to get past the blue guy, but interesting nonetheless.
Very simple but fun game.
Very amusing way to look at the theme. My wife and I played it three times each to determine our 'fate.' I got debt free, alien abduction, and loneliness. My wife got fertility, an acid trip, and debt free. Not sure who got the worse deal, haha. Still a fun little game.
There were some balance issues in the game (mostly too easy) and the boss had too much hp (not that it made him hard, just took too long to get him down). Still, a solid game.
I loved the graphics and the randomness.
Pretty difficult. It reminds me of some older games with the impending doom and shooting limitation. Well done.
I couldn't see a thing. I didn't quiet know what my 'webs' were attaching to. The timer was too fast and I had to close the whole program to try again. The controls weren't very responsive either. Definitely needs a re-work because the idea and descriptions of the controls made it sound interesting.
Neat little game with simple mechanics. It's fun being the bad guy sometimes too
The atmosphere (music + soft art) was the best aspect of the game. I didn't quite get what I was doing to make the different paths work, but I did make it to the end (blue end).
Excellent pixel art. The music is good for the style it is emulating. The boss does have difficulty issues as others are having. It's almost impractical to fight any enemies along the way either due to the tiny punch box vs enemy speed.
The gameplay was slow, but well done.
Very nice atmosphere. I loved the soul in the river styx conception. I never found out what to do after getting the pomegranite though; it sucks, because I was genuinely interested in what was going to happen next. The controls we a bit difficult at times though. Good game
Neat little defense game. It seemed the only viable strategy was to defend the cloud at the bottom (since it was too much trouble to defend the others, you got no benefit from them being active, and you couldn't re-capture them).
Didn't rate, but the windows version had an error on startup: "Could not load module [email protected]_env__1". I'm using Win7 64-bit, AMD gfx card.
That was a great/fun/hard game. It requires a bit of skill towards the end. The only complain I have is I wish that there were more levels to play.
Great atmosphere, sound/music, and gameplay.
Need infinity falling game. It was pretty fun the whole time, but it was hard to tell the difference between water and slime so I ended up dying for reasons I couldn't tell until afterwards. Nonetheless, good game.
Very fluffy graphics. The controls are what made me unable to have patience to finish it though. With the way my hands were positioned it would have felt more natural to use the space bar to jump.
Jumping with space and mining with 'z' is a very awkward control scheme. It led to dying a lot. The water rose too fast as well to get anywhere meaningful. Nice pixel art though.
Interesting puzzle game with creative solutions. I couldn't figure out what I did with some of them and got stuck about 5 or 6 puzzles in. The music sets a somber mood complimented by the darker colors. Pretty fun; It sucks I'm not better at puzzles to make it to the end.
Neat little game; didn't like the drag in speed when you hit a wall and the slow acceleration back up, but it was a solid game otherwise.
Very neat rhythm game. I feel it had a very somber mood as the game went on. I was able to finish it and liked the different note patterns (as a fan of DDR). Good job on the game
Very silly game. Though I couldn't figure out what to do different to get the robot to come out (if there was one) it was quirky and fun trying to figure out who it was. Pretty neat original game.
Didn't really understand what the goal was. I see that there is a slot for an item, but I was never able to interact with anything other than squids. Tried pressing 'x' like the UI suggests on items and whatnot. Interesting little maze game otherwise.
Neat arcade style game with unique dialogue entries. It got pretty tough towards the end!
Very amusing! It was pretty funny especially the way you fill them up. Morbid story of course, but unique theme indeed.
It plays like a good prototype of something that needs a bit of work. If you were given more time I think it would make a neat dungeon crawler (with some graphics and juice).
Pretty fun game. The only beef I have with it is that it is too hard to control. I got far into the child penguin stage before I died and gave up. It would have been 10x better with WASD + mouse controls.
Even though it's not finished it looks like it would have been a neat little exploration game. I liked the simple music (especially dropping into the hole and shifting to a dark melody).
Much difficult. Good challenge. Wow. Such theme. Many music.
The graphics were cutesy, but the gameplay felt kind of empty. There were too many places to go, but too little to do other than get lost.
I didn't quite get the intended meaning or implication. Good audio setting the atmosphere though.
Very well thought out game and puzzles. Took a while to beat, but it was fun.
Neat artstyle and music. The tentacles looked a little like breadsticks to me though. The hit boxes of some of the objects seemed a bit unfair (particularly all of the ones you slide under) because you had to be practically 99% accurate or you'd hit your head at the last moment anyways. Still a fun game to the end.
Great atmosphere and tone. Loved the claustrophobic tunnels. The same cursing repeated every 5 seconds could have used some variety.
I was confused at first, but despite its simplicity it has a lot to say. Nice little introspective game. Nobody who is depressed or is having an existential crisis should play this game, however.
Pretty neat little game, leafo. I got about 113 points before it became too much. Definitely a challenging game.
Thanks for the free coolness? Haha. But seriously, this game really does have 'deep' character development. Never mind that it's all beneath the surface.
Great graphics, good sound, and nice puzzle mechanics. It felt a bit tedious at some points guessing around in the dark though. Still a good game.
Very unique, and very fun even if I had almost no idea what my end goal was. Ended up racking up a lot of black and blue notes. Very original and fun. Ideas for enforcing people to be musical? Make note combos come out in a specific instead of random order, or let a lot come out at the same time that would fit well in any order.
Good little game with good graphics (considering its inspiration).
Fun game, good playability. Loved the random-gen aspect and explosives.
Pretty fun game! The biggest flaw though is that music... is an arrangement from a Warcraft2 and WoW (pet battle) theme...
