LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Down Through Sins by Toki Anholmes 2014-04-28T19:08:00

This game is so strong. Love the graphical elements used, the sound feedback. Everything is so beautiful.
The gameplay is pretty addicting too.

And I think the message is pretty easy to get. Or the motivation. The "artsy" part. I still find this game can be enjoyed without taking into account that aspect.

Very great.

The Mine by Almost 2014-04-28T05:03:00

Ummm, any clue why this happens? http://puu.sh/8qz0h.png
I've just recently played another Love2D game, but this one doesn't seem to work for me.
I'll try it later on another PC.

Scratch by bentosmile 2014-04-28T19:15:00

YEEEEEEEHHH! I'm an evil creature! I enjoyed it, like, every part of it. Except for the sound, because it doesn't has any.

spelunker by titoboss 2014-04-28T07:49:00

Well, here it is, a Spelunky game. Graphics have some unconsistencies (some have a lot of detail, some others have so little). Sound is... IDK, I miss a chiptune or something.

I had some fun with it, so I think it's fine. But dear lord, so much hazards at the ground. Gimme a break! Let me run a little more. Ahahah!

Deep Sea Mission by xandy 2014-04-29T06:09:00

Now let's see... I really like the concept. But I got lost very easily. The first 3 times I tried playing the game were me being lost.
Then I found the first target, and the second, and the third. IDK, but those three are at the same place, but with variations.

But as soon as I left the safety of the tutorial section, I got lost again.

I feel all this needs is a little guide at the start. Or maybe smaller areas...?

The Secrets Beneath [v1.4] by Ad-man 2014-04-28T07:10:00

Awww dammit! Another win64 game :'C... Maybe at my other PC.

Mind Your Business by Noah Ratcliff 2014-05-08T02:46:00

That exit! I wanted to share my love for nature ;^; http://puu.sh/8DBYp.png

I think I'm a social genius. I got to enter everyone's mind without problems. EXCEPT for the hippie girl, where I can't continue with the conversation without pressing Exit "by mistake".

Fight The Infection by Thepattybeast 2014-04-29T00:43:00

Mother of god. These infectious cells are so stupidly fast! Got to ~400 seconds, then the enemies started to speed up exponentially. One thing I don't understand is why the game starts so slow, that it seems to be lagging. I don't really know if that's the case, maybe because red healthy cells consume more resources than green infected cells...?

I like the game, pretty fun and overall nice. No sound, but it's fine, I think.

Sand Shark by Recursiveanomaly 2014-04-29T05:28:00

Had a little problem because of not having the necessary libraries, but just in case anyone else gets an error asking for MSVCR110.dll, here you can find it: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679
===
Now, about the game. One thing for sure, first time I ever see not just a sand shark, but a shark that swims in reverse!
The perspective, controls and the way the scenario rotates reminds me of an specific arcade game named Metal Hawk. But this one includes the natural badassery of a shark!

Squddingly Splendid Diving Simulator by Cryovat 2014-04-29T01:01:00

Well, it was fun. Pretty short but fun! Artworks are pretty nice, and sound is too. The concept was pretty interesting, pretty sad to hear about those problems, would like to see more of it, and the air tanks, which never made an appearance.

Deus ex Submarine by Jod 2014-04-28T18:34:00

Well, I died. But I regret nothing! This game is pretty cool, and I think it is by now the best I've played in terms of mood in this LD. It feels pretty human. I don't know. It's great.
There is no audio. But my mind did the work for that. I could listen to my captain voice!

Above and Beyond by Yozz 2014-04-28T07:31:00

After a second try and reading a little, I understood how to play it. It is kind of good. But after some time, and developing a "technique", this game ends up being pretty repetitive. After 10min I let myself get depressed.

Captain John's Buried Treasures by martijn 2014-04-28T06:49:00

Captain John. Arrrr!! This game is fun, but after some levels, I started to think if they were procedurally generated. Or if there was an end. After the second one I lost count (?). But I know I beaten more than 10.

Colony 31 by Crazi456 2014-04-29T03:14:00

It's pretty rad. I love the artwork, and the music is good too. It's short, but nice. Levels and mechanics are pretty interesting too. I hope this gets expanded.

Now, I had a few issues. Sometimes the characters (either the mech or the guy alone) got stuck on random places. I unstuck myself by spamming jumps and/or moving back. Then retried and it went normally, kind of strange.
The other thing is that mounting the mech teleports me for quite some distance. That includes occasionally going through walls.

Zems Online CCG - Beneath the Sea Edition! by Exeneva 2014-04-29T03:49:00

I experienced a whole lot of bugs. From texts that never left the screen ("Choose a...deck", it was behind the enemy creatures), to misplaced cards, until the AI decided she would do nothing, locking the game. Also I think that you should add a Back button at the connection lobby. If I want to go back to the selection screen, I have to reload the page.

Now talking about the game. I loved it. It breaks some paradigms, and it's pretty tactical. I would like to play it with way more cards and stuff, and against people. I hope you people continue developing it.

Ray Hey Hey by shotiris 2014-04-28T06:11:00

Now, let's see. This is what I feel while playing this game. The camera is terrible. I didn't even knew that my character was that ray till like 1 minute later. Actually I didn't even noticed her existence until there.

Graphics and sound, I like them both. They're nice. The vibe that comes from all that, I like it.

So, that's it. For me this game gets a little bit ruined because of that camera.

The Tree by Joritan Cety 2014-04-28T06:15:00

Heh, I had some other music while playing this game, and it fitted so well I actually thought it was from this game. Now, replaying it, I felt there was something missing... anyway.
What can I say? I sat, started the jar file. And played till the end of it, and felt sad when it said it ended. This game is pretty neat, and addicting. It's all about patience and mastering the mechanics.

Also, it made me remember those old Windows 3.x games.

Close Your Eyes by AestheticGamer 2014-04-28T07:37:00

You should think about investing some time making an RTP-free version. I think it counts as "port" :P. And it will improve the chances of people playing it.

Any question, look around at the RMW forums, there HAS to be a tutorial about RTP independization.

Under Your Skin by JumbocactuarX27 2014-04-30T00:31:00

I just hate having to restart every time I lose. Anything else, I love it! Great concept!

Snatching Invaluables Beneath the Surface by mcburrobit 2014-04-29T22:56:00

Oh my god, this is an endurance test! I got to level 6, or 7, I don't know. The character is so slow, and it starts off with so little perils. I still don't know the effects of being spotted. Lastly, I was pretty tired, so one of those daggers hit me back in the head, spurting litters of blood all over the place, bathing all corpses, making them feel the moist and the warmth of living.

I don't know, but playing this game makes me think a lot of weird stuff. Nice game!

Miner Problem by Zednaut 2014-04-28T23:49:00

It's so much fun that I hate that time limit.

Platforming is so smooth! Movement is little bit slow, considering that the character is in a hurry. I think s/he is just being careful, but whatever.

My complaints. The pickaxe response is so slow because of the animation, feels so heavy, and its range is so short. Also I can't hit while in the air, which forces me to wait until they're at the right position.

Anett by KumoKairo 2014-04-29T04:56:00

It's very pretty, but there are some things I miss. I miss having a visible lifebar, or some indication of how much life I have left (if it is one-hit kill... okay, I don't know).
I miss knowing where I'm shooting at, and/or how far my shot goes.
And yeah, that's it.

I like the art style, the sounds, and it's a pretty interesting game.

Anett by KumoKairo 2014-04-29T05:04:00

Ah! About my previous comment, I feel like an idiot, I just noticed that I shoot to where the mouse points. I don't know where was I pointing to before LOL. One thing less to my missing list then!

Little Mole Hunt by Tragon 2014-04-28T07:00:00

Well, it will be fun to try it out with a friend.
As for the solo-play, I don't know if there is an objective other than surviving. Maybe arcade-like, but I think it misses a score thing (timer or something).

Gravedigger by Kulomin 2014-04-29T00:07:00

Commanding zombies for the win! This game is pretty fun, and pretty addictive. I like the concept a lot. And yeah, mostly that. I feel no need of complaining about anything.

Ultimate Underground Fridge Runner by randomdragoon 2014-04-28T06:54:00

Oh noes! That old joke about running fridges! x'DDD.

It gave me a fun time. So, yeah. Hurray! Gameplay-wise it has some challenge, and it's nice for leisure time.

(I hope Kong adds it some medals too *wink*).

Beings Of The Dark by Nnnnneeeedddd 2014-04-28T18:57:00

That voice at the start of the game. It was so weird. I'm using a headset, so it scared me! Heh!
Other than that, maybe it's because I played the web version, but the input lags a lot. Movement works fine, jumping too. But the punches, it seems like it needed to re-download the punching sound, and if I was moving, movement gets locked. That killed me several times...

I give this game a lot of humor, because of that voice at the start. And I'll replay it, I can't give up without finishing it!

Breaking The Waves by BlazingFanfish 2014-04-29T21:22:00

The editted resources clash a lot with the RTP resources. Some are pretty strange. But I like the mugshots a lot (that big artwork that appears when they talk). I liked the audio too.
Now, the game. The story was pretty confusing and felt like a mash up of a lot of things. Also dialogues are pretty bad. Comical sketches are not my cup of tea, but they were fine and added some good interaction between the characters.
Battles are pretty shallow. Most skills are damage-dealing techniques, with some exceptions. Ben's fourth skill kills anyone (if not, any of the other characters gives it the last hit and voilĂ , dead). Even the final boss, if you get to paralyze him, he is practically dead.

There is a lot of things that feel rushed. Obviously because of time. But I know it can be done better. Hope you people fight again! (?). To keep polishing your skills!

Aquifer by loggs2 2014-04-28T04:10:00

It says "Can't run because it's not a valid Win32 application" (my Windows is in Spanish so this translation is probably innacurate).

Hope you fix it to be able to rate.

Virophage by eerongal 2014-04-29T02:55:00

This game is awesome. Nothing else to say. At first I didn't understood it, I pressed the middle mouse when it said to, then died horribly. Didn't even knew that I was able to move ahahah!

But then I read a little, controls and such, and a whole new world of possibilities opened in front of me. I really enjoyed it.

Test Beneath the Surface by Lancelot Gao 2014-04-29T04:38:00

Not entirely my cup of tea, because I get frustrated by self-controlled attacks. But, you got me.

--SPOILER?--
I didn't realized that I was controlling the other characters at the same time.

I really like the concept. Those pesky characters still manage to beat my main personality, and I've tried it like 20 times. DARN! But I love the aesthetic, which I find pretty fitting, I don't know why. It's a surreal game.

Gravedigger 20XX by muramasa 2014-04-28T07:09:00

The ending is pretty bad, don't even mind about it. I was running out of time.
And yes, that boss has some difficulty issues... AND the sound, which causes "misinformation" (it DOES damage the boss, but you would need to land an insane amount of hits while dodging Touhou-like fireballs).

If it's permitted, I would gladly do something about these difficulty issues. It makes it virtually unbeatable, right? (I did beat it two times, but that doesn't mean anything).

Gravedigger 20XX by muramasa 2014-05-05T00:07:00

Whoops. Yeah, didn't took into account that. The water physics were added at some point of the last day, and didn't even thought about it when I was making respawning (respawn was added because dying by the boss's massively stupid difficulty spike was horribly annoying).

Thanks a lot monkeyavalanche.

Gravedigger 20XX by muramasa 2014-05-09T18:52:00

Thanks Jupiter! I actually was following your channel since a friend told me about your compilation series. I'm looking forward to your next videos.

Strata Dig by Jared Sartin 2014-04-29T04:13:00

It looks very promising, and the sprites look so awesome. But there is not a lot to see. I hope you people continue developing this.

Now, I'm sure you know this already, but I miss some graphical/audio feedback when I select something or do something. Also would like if it was not necessary to hold the key, just pressing it once, toggling between "modes".

Pressure by Contacaton 2014-04-28T04:34:00

I don't understand this game. But I like the way you pictured "death" (the visual representation for losing condition).
I know I died 2 times while trying to play this, but I still don't understand. I feel bad for losing something, so I can't vote, I think.

Amy's Rescue by WhiteWolf93 2014-04-28T03:49:00

I think this game is okay. It's pretty resource-consuming, something that the developer will need to thinker with, I think. I know close to zero about Unity, so I can't say anything about it.

But overall, I had a good time with it.

Atomicle - LostAutumn.net by AutumnGuy 2014-04-28T04:46:00

So, I think this is a very complete game. It's fun, gives you a nice time. Mechanics are nice, easy to understand, and pretty solid. The only complaint I have, is that I have some problems remembering which key is inside and which is outside. Heh, but that's me, I suppose.

You did a great job overall. Planning, and execution.

Mole Chase by bobmandude9889 2014-04-29T04:52:00

Fall damage was so annoying, mostly because I didn't knew that it existed until later on, seeing that some areas I walked on killed me too. I first thought that all gray soil was deadly.

It was funny how you move by tiles, and you can sprint if you hold the button (which most of the time ends up in me falling subsequently dying). But at the end, it was funny and I had a good time with it.

Literary Diver by sugarbyte 2014-04-29T04:06:00

It was fun. And that guy in a dive suit reading a book is quite entertaining. Heh!
When I got to the bottom, I was wondering if I then needed to wait and die, but I think it was just waiting, or touching the right side... or... I don't know.

I'm still amazed with this man's devotion for a good lecture. My life in exchange for finding a good reading.

Bubble Cannon by Acuity 2014-04-29T06:34:00

There is no end/losing condition, not even score. But it's pretty addicting, I have to say.

Beneath the surface by Norman12 2014-04-29T22:31:00

Oh Jesus, that was frustrating! But challenging. It was the same kind of frustration you feel with those old games you want to kick their butt so hard.
I feel pleased and had a lot of fun with it. Graphical assets and audio are pretty good!

And I like how I can edit some levels. I made one little torture room just by editing lvl1 image layout a little. See if you can beat it! http://puu.sh/8sLUZ.png Just override 1.png with this (Sadly I was unable to add it as 10, not even editing the lvls.txt file).

This game needs a level editor! Ahahaha!

Whack-a-Meme by Mallot1 2014-04-29T03:00:00

Um... two things. First, I don't know when I whack something. Or maybe I never did.

Second, if I just press the mouse key, the... flypaper? keeps down, then after a while the game closes with an alert saying a number. What does that mean?

Badass Pinguin by theundeadwarrior 2014-04-29T02:07:00

Only complaint I have is that it's pretty hard to know if the place you're going to land after falling the first time, is a safe place. And you don't have any control over it anyway...

BUT! I felt I was unable to even see those platforms because of contrast. Top part is too bright, bottom is too dark. When I go from top to bottom I need some time to be able to see the platforms, in which time I most of the time am already dead.

Other than that, I find it pretty fun and nice.

Sink by RPWhitaker 2014-04-30T00:00:00

This game is awesome! It's so unforgiving, but so addictive. I actually stopped playing because I found a bug (which happens randomly I guess), where the variable canmove seems to be undefined (here I include the bug report http://puu.sh/8sRHy.txt).

Anyway, I'm going to continue playing a little more mwahahaha! Hope I beat it!

The submarine engineer by aelita1992 2014-04-29T06:48:00

Well, right now it feels a little empty, but let's see what this turns into after some more work.
I like the graphics, they're pretty polished. And the concept is pretty interesting. I miss some audio.

Beneath the surface by legendpaul 2014-04-28T23:29:00

No sound and frustrating repetition. Those are my complaints. Maybe a menu and unlockable levels would do some good to this game.

Other than that, it's fine and had some fun with it.

Beneath the Surface by Milktoast 2014-04-29T01:59:00

I was afraid of having a seizure because of those explosions ahahaha! Ok, not really, but anyway. The looks are awesome, those vector graphics, sounds, and that screen deformation to look like an old screen.
Gameplay-wise, this game is sooooooo adicting! I had to stop, because I was unable to lose. Explosions are quite large, so I was able to protect indefinitely one of my turrets by occasionally firing myself.

A pretty solid game on all aspects!

Beneath the Surface by Milktoast 2014-04-29T06:24:00

Umm... just wanted to mention that it's way easier with the mouse. Keep LMB pressed, and the crossfire will follow the mouse.

Dungeons of Dragorath by killthealias 2014-04-28T18:43:00

This reminds me a little to the old Tower of Druaga from NES. But without those cryptic secrets.

I like it, as a base. I was pretty happy playing it, but after some time I was wondering if there was an objective.

I hope you do implement random dungeons, or else give them some variety, someday!

Another Day at Work by Evil Scotsman 2014-04-29T02:33:00

Well, it was nice, but does it end? I discovered a thing, I thought they would fire me, but nope.

Aqua Nick in Deep Sea Danger by Bad Dog Studios 2014-04-29T00:51:00

I hear some RPG Maker 2000/2003 sounds <3. The game is ok. Can't think anything else to say, except that congratz for doing it in one evening.

Revenge of the Fish by Colthor 2014-04-29T00:30:00

One thing for sure. Would be nice to have multiplayer mode supporting players over local network at least. I played it alone, using both fishes, was fun, but I felt I was missing a second player.

Captain Amy of the Underground by VQZX 2014-04-29T05:14:00

Well, one thing for sure. Collisions are pretty bugged. You should work on that. Anything else, it was fine.

Do not sleep by Dimir 2014-04-29T06:51:00

The web version doesn't works. I'm not really sure, but I think you need to upload the files to the Public folder. Then share the public link.
Then, I tried the Windows binaries, but you uploaded the executable only. I tried running it and it mentions it needs the '57_5Mb_Data' folder (along with its contents) next to it.

Do not sleep by Dimir 2014-04-29T06:58:00

In the end, I managed to play it by downloading the web version.
===
The music is funny, that's something I can say. But there is a lot of unfinished/unpolished stuff.

Deep Sea Fishing by Mago 2014-04-29T07:01:00

It's pretty simple, but it is effective and fun. Great work.

We Can Build Together After We Have Gone to Sleep by WBojangles 2014-04-28T04:56:00

I don't know. I feel that I'm missing something. This is one of those artsy games, so it is more about thinking about what the hell I just saw.
I'll give it some sleep. Talk about it with my pillow.

Below the Water Surface by V0ID 2014-04-28T03:56:00

Well, I feel this can be expanded to the infinite. I liked the thing about resources, but I feel these mechanics can still be exploited some more. Something that in 48h is pretty hard, so yeah, nevermind.

The assets are fine, nothing special. Only thing that bothers me a little is the audio. The motor sound loops forever. I first thought that M toggled it, but nope, it restarts it.

Anyway, I had fun with this.

Mushroom Jazz by isyourguy 2014-04-29T07:05:00

This is all that cares about friendship. Hangin' out, changing colours, and listening to good music.

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Baa Ram Ewe by renatopp 2014-12-09T03:14:00

I found it pretty good on most aspects. Only thing was the music. It's repetitive, yes, but then it stopped and never repeated ever again. Also I find sheep sounds kind of annoying. Though you varied them.
Wolves were a nice addition! First levels were long and tedious. Wolves gave the game what it needed. Thrill.

OLA by Inateno 2014-12-09T02:46:00

I've got to say, never thought that I would see an MMO at LD. I mean, there is a lot of effort put at making the server and all that.
The game seems pretty rad! But right now there is little to do. I need people to play, I think. Also some instructions about how to play would be good.

Atomic Space Vikings by AtomicVikings 2014-12-09T11:05:00

It's a beautiful game. I love these games. I like the atmosphere, and the theme, and the way things are. I would like to see a later version of this.
Overall this game is great, but in terms of innovation it lacks a little. It's the only thing! Because the game is lovely and I enjoyed playing it (on the easiest since I am the worst at playing games).

Spacey Trail by Jacksendary 2014-12-09T03:24:00

I think this game needs more things to do. I traveled for long distances and nothing showed up. There are only traders, which normally are trying to sell you junk (other one exchanged me 30 ammo for 10 ammo). More kinds of events, and more decisions. But it's a fine game. Reminds me of something...

And yeah. Scan area should be automatic.

Orlyrinthum by muramasa 2014-12-09T20:10:00

The username and token are for use along with a GameJolt account. It was something I added at the last minute, so it's pretty unpolished too (it uses the OS's UI). I need to clarify that somewhere...
Since I'm continuing work on this game, I've made a proper login screen (along with some other changes), but I don't know if updating that would be against the rules. Maybe having it here as a separate download?

Thanks to everyone for all your input! And thanks for the compliments about the art. Much much very very such appreciated woof woof :').

Treasure Quest by ruerob 2014-12-09T03:36:00

I just got a problem, and that is that I don't even have a clue of what to do at the first screen just after seeing the intro. And the text bubble is so slow! And I can't skip it.
Other than that, it seems like a very cute game! And I like adventure games too, though I'm pretty bad at these "orz.

Dancing Shadows by marsermd 2014-12-09T10:21:00

I don't seem to be able to play this game, and I don't know why. I pressed the arrows, used WASD, and never understood exactly if my input was being taken into account. I need a little more feedback, something like in beatmania, where you get "Bad", "Good", "Excellent", to say you how close you were.

Other than that, the game seems pretty good and it's a nice concept.

Survive by Javabot 2014-12-09T03:39:00

Put grass to make things pretty. Ahahahahahaha! Who doesn't want to spend 5 hours in something useless instead of putting some lava?
Anyway, this is pretty nice!

DisChord by Grindstorm 2014-12-09T03:03:00

One word. Thisgameisawesome.

The Warehouse by dallonf 2014-12-09T03:41:00

Ninjas surely ninja'd me several times. I thought they were pitholes at first xD.

Guadaneitor by sergi0vargas 2014-12-09T02:49:00

I won after dying, so I'm a little... confused.
The game was fine. It's kind of hard, seeing that the space of reaction you have is pretty small. But it's good for challenge, so I give you that point ;o.

Kaiser by oscarabraham 2014-12-09T03:59:00

I hope my boss doesn't find out I'm playing this!

starfall by datachomper 2014-12-09T03:49:00

This game has so much personality.

brawling game by barry.p.evans 2014-12-09T03:56:00

I think it's fine. But there seems to be a lot of things in progress. Projectiles didn't seem to hit the enemy, just the green squares. And of course there is a lot of bugs. And you know (?).
But it seems pretty interesting, and I like the combos, so props for that.
