LD20 — It's Dangerous to Go Alone! Take This!

Multiplayer Zombie Garden Adventure by goffmog 2011-05-02T16:18:00

Multiplayer was a nice tough, although there wasn't anyone else playing when I tried it out. The shooting was hard to see, and it seemed like the zombies were pretty hard to kill (I guess that was the point of backup though). Didn't work in firefox 3, ok in chrome.

My little selling shop on Earth by allinlabs 2011-05-02T16:48:00

Pretty pixel art, interesting abilities. Ran into the abovementioned bug just when I was going back to complete the game :/

Brass Monkey by fishbrain 2011-05-02T16:03:00

Start screen was fun, as well as the flying giant ape and other small details :) Gameplay a bit too easy, and not very captivating. Would have been interesting as a visual novel about apes :)

Dodgeball Massacre by Falcon256 2011-05-02T15:52:00

I get

java -jar Start-Alternative.jar
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no lwjgl in java.library.path

and

java -jar Start-WorksSometimes.jar
JarClassLoader: Warning: Unable to load native library: java.lang.NullPointerException
JarClassLoader: Warning: Unable to load native library: java.lang.NullPointerException
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException

A script with the proper path settings to the lwjgl files should probably fix the first one easily.

Bloboy's journey by Sempai 2011-05-02T16:06:00

Can't run the linux download, not sure if I'm doing something wrong:

./main
bash: ./main: cannot execute binary file

Jump Climb Die by Cybs 2011-05-02T16:10:00

Game froze when I clicked the mouse to jump. I can click through the start screen ok, but after that clicking the mouse freezes it. The walking animation is cute though.

Ant General by whizzter 2011-05-02T15:47:00

Performance is pretty bad in firefox 3.6, but neat idea. Swarm against swarm battles could be interesting to explore further.

Legend of Parasite by Draknek 2011-05-02T16:34:00

Totally lovely! The game mechanics of becoming the creature that killed you is very interesting, and is executed very well here, with various novel enemies with unique special effects and puzzles where they can be used. Although it could maybe be made a little bit clearer what is happening when you die (the first time). The level layout is pretty good too, and the pixel art is very cute. Enjoyed playing this, challenging, fresh, and cute.

LD24 — Evolution

MiniEvolution by Smirnov48 2012-08-29T18:31:00

Interesting game mechanics!

My first game took a long time, so in the end the action blocks were flying past very fast, and the computer was using them as fast as they came, so in the end it won. In subsequent games I had learned the blocks well enough to win the game every time early on. But a good mechanic for making sure the game ends sooner or later :)

I didn't really get the role of the clouds (I just glanced over the instructions though).

Maybe a bit more visualization of the creature properties could have been nice (e.g. make color darker / change hue to reflect e.g. their level of attack - or maybe latest added ability)

FOR THE darWIN by TravisChen 2012-08-28T18:52:00

Very pretty, and quite fun for a while. Would benefit a lot from some level progression / additional skulls series as the game goes on.

Evolution by Mathias Olsson 2012-08-28T17:21:00

I liked the 3D rotating parallax star background :)
The game mechanics was interesting, but the game got a bit frustrating in the end.

Pixelomoeba by PickledBrain 2012-08-29T18:38:00

Interesting game mechanics, clean and solid game.

Could use some bonuses / more block types / effects for the different block types (e.g. higher speed the more xx colored blocks you have (if that was there I apologize, but didn't notice it)).

Troll Spirit by zzorn 2012-08-29T19:50:00

Thanks for the reviews!

@ratking:
They do throw some apple cores / bones after eating, but it doesn't happen right away, and there is no other animation, so not very good feedback.

And I absolutely agree about your own trolls being too hard to spot. There is a faint blue aura on them, and they generate mana stars, but it's not easy enough to connect to individual trolls. We were thinking of making a post-compo version with various improvements, one being having distinctive hats for your own trolls ;)

@Gidaio:
Point taken, tooltips and an intro screen outlining the objective at the start might be other good improvement ideas.

We also want to add a bit more of a level/wave progression, now it's maybe a bit too sandboxy and not challenging enough once you manage to grow your tribe a bit.

LD28 — You Only Get One

Uno Terra by Diptoman 2013-12-17T16:28:00

Nice strategy game! Explored different strategies for a while.

There was no music (or sound) in the game itself, only in the menu screen, was that intentional?

The Legend of the Jetpack Gentleman With His Freezing Gun Who Only Has One Chance by GBolt 2013-12-17T15:52:00

Love the gentleman jetpacker! :)

Interesting idea to create your own platforms with the freeze ray.

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Curse in the Depths by Snowdrama 2014-04-29T03:35:00

Really liked the graphics, especially the mermaid character.
The way the boost works was not quite clear thou.

From Below by muh_h 2014-04-29T14:54:00

Nice monster! Very hard to difficulty though.

Kaiju Rift by Ted Brown 2014-04-29T10:57:00

Whee, what a power rush piloting a 100 meter tall mech through an enemy city! :D

Could use some more polish of course (controls were a bit unclear, and it would be nice to lay down a hail of bullet fire, instead of only clicking the targets), but the idea is great!

Kitsuni by SecondDimension 2014-04-29T15:28:00

Wonderful art color palette. I also really liked the background ambience sounds and all the little details (flowers etc). There's a wonderful sense of mystery to it.

Bathysphere by jurnacsr 2014-04-29T11:16:00

Neat little game. I thought I had to avoid the fish first (should have read the intro screen).

Some level system would work well for it, to prolong the gameplay.

Beneath Europa by Intoxicatious 2014-04-29T15:45:00

Nice retro remake.

Dark Soils by Grieve 2014-04-29T12:52:00

Love the narrative comments, that work as a tutorial at the same time. Nice mechanics idea with standing still to detect essence. And love the character graphics, and the dog! :)

Not quite challening enough for a survival game, but that's a minor tuning issue.

Some Guy and the Blind Date Adventure by Jonapulse 2014-04-29T13:57:00

Interesting take on the dating sim genre.

The Creature of the Depths Must Feed his Sheep by TheColorMan 2014-04-29T12:10:00

Wow, innovative twist on a stealth platformer!
Love the main character graphics, and that feed animation!

Could have been a nice idea to restart from the most recent level if you died, but on the other hand it increases the difficulty.

Also the restart key R is too close to E and F :P

Topsail by Devon 2014-04-29T12:36:00

Neat effect!

Crushing Depth by zzorn 2014-04-29T13:16:00

Thanks for the comments everyone!

SuperIzzo: Probably some issue with the shader then, the UI is rendered with the default LibGdx shader, but the ocean uses my custom shader. I'll need to look into compatibility issues with different cards more in the future, there's probably no quick fix I can do for this Jam.

Mekuri: Agreed, I'd have loved to add sounds for all the different motors and systems if I would have had more time. The torpedo hit detection was a last minute addition, I'll check if there is some obvious bug.

Crushing Depth by zzorn 2014-04-29T13:19:00

Aomeas: What version of Java do you have? (The output of java -version ).

I compiled it with Oracle Java 1.7, so it might not work with older Java versions.

Crushing Depth by zzorn 2014-05-01T08:21:00

Empyrealhell: Thanks for reporting. So far two radeon cards that my custom shader fails on, so we could have a pattern there.

Down the snail hole by oxysoft 2014-04-29T13:50:00

Love the tileset.

Bionic Hotdog by Daniel X. Moore 2014-04-29T13:03:00

That was crazy :D

Baum by Waterman7 2014-04-29T12:29:00

Ah, those dark and creepy trees, munching bones hidden from our eyes beneath the ground.

Great fit on theme, and moody graphics.

Mole Position by Glint Games 2014-04-29T10:41:00

Nice boulderdashery game.

Controls seem a bit inconsistent, sometimes I can walk up underground with the up arrow, sometimes jump, and sometimes I just get stuck.

Lost Cat by dddaaannn 2014-04-29T03:44:00

Nice use of character graphics!
Is it possible to interact with the cat though?

Watch out the fish by Kirito 2014-04-29T12:21:00

Haha, those funny fish faces :D

Controls were not that smooth, but the graphics got attitude :)
