LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Talking Heads by ponk 2014-12-12T16:27:00

Ha, nice implementation of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_whispers. An enjoyable experience, but also a lot of room for further expansion!

Hectic! by zakchaos 2014-12-12T15:23:00

Sadly not that much fun to play, mainly because of the finicky movement combined with the hitboxes I guess. My best score was exactly 400 I think.

Having to reload the page to replay was pretty annoying. A bit jittery on Pale Moon (a Firefox based browser), but ran pretty smoothly on Chrome.

Hunt the Pixel by rjhunter 2014-12-17T23:51:00

Caught two rotten pixels, would've maybe caught more if there was some variance to the backgrounds. Nice simple game. I liked how the game zoomed in, almost felt like it said "Entire game on one screen? I don't need that much, a few pixels will do!". Or maybe I'm overthinking it.

flop by ix 2014-12-12T15:47:00

Cool idea, but I'm not a fan of the floaty gameplay. Pushed all the way till the "true end" though.

BEARPG by MaxguN 2014-12-17T23:32:00

Tried with both keyboard and a gamepad, but the controls are too delayed and/or unresponsive for the basic gameplay to be enjoyable. Got to 55 after getting a bit more used to them though (hit and run tactics for the win).

Survival Camp: A Day-Night game by hoyt hoy 2014-12-17T23:43:00

Took a few tries to get started, but managed to survive for a while after that. Too bad I wasn't able to eat the monsters, because the blueberries didn't grow fast enough and I starwed. On one of my tries my guy starved to death and after he had keeled over he said "I'm hungry", which I found quite amusing.

Super Arena Hell! by randomdragoon 2014-12-28T12:18:00

Pretty hard on a touchpad, only managed to get 18800 points. Simple but well executed, good job!

CRUSH by AlexVsCoding 2014-12-08T11:14:00

Like I already mentioned @ GJ, it's a nifty game, although a bit hard to play alone :P.

Snowball juggling Olympio by Benjamin 2014-12-18T07:50:00

Really good both gameplay- and aesthetics-wise! My only suggestion is that the survival mode should probably show your result at the game over screen. Made it to level 4 and managed to get 44 juggles in the survival mode! Best snowman so far too ;).

Hauler 31 by benmcnelly 2014-12-18T08:05:00

Great atmosphere and I managed to make my way trough the maze surprisingly easily. Could've done without the install in the windows download, and I couldn't see the full game (or atleast the Hauler 31 text in the title) until I picked a resolution of 1680x1050.

0000 : Press Z by alvarop 2014-12-12T15:36:00

I think iostream summed it up pretty nicely. Couldn't finish any of the levels with moving platforms, the controls were just too damn finicky for me, but then again I don't have much platformer experience.

The Potion by Charimation 2014-12-08T11:32:00

Indeed quite short, but still a great job for 10-12 hours of work!

Sales Pitch by kiririn51 2014-12-12T14:59:00

Good job for such a short time. Would have been cool to just control the game with my mouse instead of having to press spacebar though.

Complemental Doors by Aomeas 2014-12-09T19:31:00

Cool aesthetics and the layered gameplay is interesting. Jumping didn't feel too good, but maybe that's just me. Good job!

Pixel Pixie by Code White 2014-12-12T16:57:00

Nifty little game and I think the difficulty is pretty good, maybe a bit on the hard side. Managed to match some colors, but in the end it seems my color vision isn't as good as I thought.

Penguin Savior by Samuel Arminana 2014-12-12T16:41:00

The penguin game wasn't anything spectacular and I also would've liked to have been able to interact with my environment in the "real world" game. Good job for a compo entry though.

The Operator by little-burrito 2014-12-12T17:27:00

What is this, an "Install Gentoo 2014"-simulator?!? Just kidding, it was a superb experience, especially so considering it was a compo entry!

I like the idea of different types of people being able to enjoy it, like the agent has to be more of an action game person while the operator is the puzzle-enthusiast. Somewhat reminds me of hacking stuff in Alien Swarm while my friends tried to keep the area clear of the endless swarm of aliens.

Bookmarking the page with the current version for later!

Legendary Legionnaire Winter Massacre by banana4life 2014-12-12T17:48:00

Tried twice, but couldn't get that sweet sweet revenge. Atleast I'll be together with my snowman in heaven or whatever that place is where snowmen and legionnaires go.

A simple idea but pretty well polished. Good job!

Synthetic Nano-Organic Web-Manipulating Agent Network by ZNCatlaw 2014-12-18T00:14:00

I had no idea what I was supposed to do, and when I finally tought I figured it out I started doing even worse than before! Managed to survive quite a long time, too bad the broadcast system of the ship went silent (the song didn't loop) so the atmosphere was somewhat lacking for the most part. Cool idea and the execution is also passable given that it's a jam game!

Bug in your room by Harley77 2014-12-09T19:18:00

I went for the ball, but when I tried to pick it up the cat disappeared. It took my brain about a second or two to process the hilarity that would ensue :P. Killed the bug twice, because I accidentally clicked the first victory screen away in the heat of the battle.

One Screen Story by BK-TN 2014-12-12T15:16:00

Played through it, but still couldn't get used to the "tank controls". You managed to build a cool atmoshpere with such minimalistic elements. Not something I would've expected from the theme.

Layerd by nuno 2014-12-12T16:20:00

Goddamn checkpoint 27, I hope I never have to see you again! Took a while but I managed to beat it. Nice use of the theme, although I had to check the comments to see what the number keys were all about.

Hot place by edve98 2014-12-17T23:23:00

The controls felt a bit inconsistant even after a few tries, but otherwise it wasn't too bad, albeit a bit simple.

Puzzle! by nassi 2014-12-12T17:02:00

Thanks for all the encouraging comments! Must be hard to think of something to say when there's so little content.

@ix: example.jpg and example.png are actually different images, maybe I chose somewhat bad names for them :).

@ponk: you mean that they should snap when moving the piece? Because they do snap when you let go of the piece.

@little-burrito: "no panning", was one of the things in my original... planning. I guess I thought it fit the theme better that way.

Crunchy - The Kawaii Roach by AinaSG 2014-12-26T12:31:00

Cool aesthetic! Thanks for making my computer faster too ;).

Monsters by Rulrite 2014-12-08T11:27:00

Game A took a while to get going but Game B was a lot of fun straight from the start. Nothing bad to say about this, it perfectly achieves what it's going for.

The Harrowing by K.Chplr 2014-12-23T18:17:00

Quite barebones, but still pretty cool. Most of those patterns were too hard for me though.

Richard Bruck in the Dark by Kovalsky 2014-12-29T19:42:00

Looks and sounds nice, but could've used some sound effects. The gameplay was a bit dull, since it took a while to get started and trying to nail the boards was a bit imprecise.

SIRTET by stray 2014-12-12T15:59:00

Cool how you created a new kind of game by reversing the mechanics of some existing game. Cool game, might even be more fitting to the modern generation than the original one.

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

A Punker's Tale by ChronusZ 2015-04-21T01:11:00

For some reason I spawned on top of the piano when I went outside, but the speech bubbles were in their "correct" place on the other side of the screen. Might be because I decided to keep watching TV for a while after being told to save the world.

Clumsy Crew: Incredible Tank by TobiasNL 2015-04-20T21:38:00

Looks and sounds really nice, but most of the weapons are absolutely dreadful making the whole game somewhat irritating. Even after quite a few tries my best score was still 50 or so.

What controller did you try to use for my game btw? First time I tried Löve's gamepad features, so the implementation might not be perfect.

Clumsy Crew: Incredible Tank by TobiasNL 2015-04-21T01:04:00

@TobiasNL: The Löve wiki says that "LÖVE automatically recognizes most popular controllers with a similar layout to the Xbox 360 controller as gamepads, but you can add more with love.joystick.setGamepadMapping.". I guess they don't consider the Logitech Rumblepad 2 popular enough :(.

At least I know what I'll have to do next time I plan on adding controller support, but I probably won't "fix" the current version. Maybe if enough people complain about it.

Thanks for the reply! If only LD allowed private messages...

Dino Bros by josefnpat 2015-04-24T01:59:00

Got overwhelmed on my first try, but managed to beat the onslaught after that. Too bad it said there were 2 breads left even after beating the king. I was sure the ending would be worth it though, so of course I took it upon myself to paint the fields of war red with jam. Figuratively, since there was no jam to be had. Only... Game jam. Apart from that the only bug I noticed was that the attack sound would play even if you pressed the attack key while jumping.

I love how everything about this is so over the top. Well, expect for the quite simplistic gameplay, which to be honest didn't really bother me as it was quite brief. The animations were enough to distract me from the fact that all I was really doing was spamming z while making sure that I had enough breathing room.

I think the game really fits a game jam - something short and funny with maybe just a bit of a challenge thrown in there. That way you can even polish it into something as nice as you have here.

BED✰HOGG by 01010111 2015-04-23T17:22:00

I'll have to try this with a friend. If I ever manage to find one. The AI was a worthy opponent too, as long as I held back on those throws (they're indeed quite OP against the AI).

Nice idea, well executed and polished too. Needs online play and more in-depth combat and also needs to be cheaper than Nidhogg so I can buy this instead :P.

Dollheart by Chaoseed 2015-04-23T22:42:00

"Oh, is that you, Lexy? You look a bit different. Are you going after some particular client?

...Are people really into that?" who wouldn't love a bulldozer (I think that's a loader though :P)!

Took a peek at the source and you managed to separate the data and the engine quite nicely. Too bad you didn't get much done with the story. Still, an interesting tech demo.

Sugar Shot by Anakiro 2015-04-21T21:21:00

It is indeed quite a simple game. I think eott summed it up pretty nicely.

Orbital Ion Cannon versus Conservation Of Charge by PTSnoop 2015-04-20T20:15:00

Almost got to 8 but one damn electron sneaked into the firing chamber at the last second. Didn't manage to ventilate the extra supply fast enough so it always got quite packed after 6 or so shots.

Neat little game and a cool unconventional weapon.

The Death of Mister Johnson by davidbox 2015-05-01T14:02:00

I think it might be a tad late for that Mr. Johnson: http://i.imgur.com/qs0GbZc.png

Not much to comment on, but I guess the mood was pretty fitting.

Me+Ewe by Mink 2015-04-23T23:16:00

The art style was indeed lovely. Even if I can't rate it I can at least comment on it :P.

Very light on the story side, but I guess it gets the job done. Don't know what other options there could've been at the fight scene, but it felt a bit dull to be honest.

Solid game nonetheless.

Holokitten by vidarn 2015-04-24T20:49:00

I made it? No, I'm pretty sure you're the one who made it! Finished with 1483 coins and got hit twice.

Very nice musi... Oh, right :P. Well, thanks for the link at least ;).

For some reason it wouldn't let me bind the DPAD of my PS3 controller, but that has happened in AAA games too so it's probably something wrong with my setup. Really solid feeling platformer even if I had to move by using the analog sticks. Key binding really offers a nice amount of flexibility, I'll have to keep that in mind.

The level design was pretty varied with some branches so it was okay too. I think either the player should've been smaller or the enemies bigger, because at the moment it was somewhat silly. A boss would've of course been nice, but the content you had is plenty considering the time limit. The variation when picking up coins was also a nice touch. The camera should've probably moved with turning, so that the player could see equally far in both directions.

Gunception by pikmin4000 2015-04-20T22:37:00

Decent graphics, but the gameplay was somewhat repetitive with planting the guns and baiting the enemies into them. At least with the machine gun you could fight the enemies somewhat fairly :P.

I'm willing to bet that this isn't the last "guns shooting guns" game I'll play this Ludum Dare, but it is the first! Actually it's the first game I've ever played that lets me do that.

And to reply to your comment on my game: What is the model of your gamepad? You could also try restarting the game :P. Don't really have any specific advice, since this was my first time using the gamepad functionality and I couldn't test it very thoroughly.

Miyu by SecondDimension 2015-04-21T18:03:00

Reminds me of Windosill. Less variety but also a lot shorter so I think I prefer this one. Solid entry all around, good job. Too bad I didn't have tea while playing this.

This Fart of Mine by rodrigomotta 2015-05-04T20:53:00

I found the gameplay quite hard, but maybe that's just because I'm not much of a mobile gamer. Managed to get to 10 after quite a number of tries. Nice and even somewhat serious mood despite the main hero's form of locomotion.

Dunk Souls by Yngar 2015-04-21T23:25:00

Got the leg platforms opened but deemed climbing the bot too hard, so I tried just dunking the main hoop from the ground and... Of course I didn't hit it no matter how hard I tried.

More like Shadow of the Dunkus (or something) am I right?!

Wellbeing by reheated 2015-04-24T16:25:00

Impressive puzzle design for a jam game. I also liked the story and the choice presented to the player. Felt a bit like Q.U.B.E in that regard, but this game handled it better in my opinion. Went for both endings and I have to say that the woman had the better deal after all, even if that was only my second choice :P. I didn't actually notice the continue from branch button in the menu, so I did the levels before that twice, but they went by really quickly on my second try.

I found that the graphical style made the puzzles harder for me, since everything felt a bit unclear. The constant shifting didn't bother me too much, but there were little freezes or jumps from time to time, which annoyed me much more. Maybe there should've been more contrast between the different kinds of tiles and their different states. Also I think it would've been better if the tiles with people and emitters would've been marked by default (apart from the maps with a choice). Tiles with the number 0 could also have had grayed out surrounding tiles by default. I spent especially long on the last level of the Utilitarianist side, since everything seemed to be properly connected, but the emitters weren't actually connected to each other.

Playing around a bit more I realized that one of the problems with the visuals was that the game window was too big when playing fullscreen 1920x1080 so it was hard to grasp the overall situation. Now that I look at it in half the size it looks a lot clearer.

Overall a really neat game.

Ultra Hat Dimension by Crowbeak 2015-04-23T15:45:00

Felt really complete for a Ludum Dare game. 2-6 took a few tries, but even that wasn't too bad. I think the difficulty was spot on for a jam game, since it wasn't easy enough to just pass without thinking and neither so hard that it made me want to quit out of frustration.

Great atmosphere too, I kinda wish the moving would've been smoother when moving more than one tile in a row, but it didn't bother me too much.

Didn't much care for the references but at least the puns were used in moderation :P.

Rocket Rabbit by jcmoyer 2015-04-24T20:27:00

Damn, took a few tries but was able to win with a score of 153500. Some feedback on a succesful hit would sure have been cool. I think the player rate of fire should've been increased slightly so as to make the game feel better. I still have no idea how to get past the criss-cross of enemies near the end without losing a life :P. Well, actually I do, since I watched the 2 life clear video but you get the point. It was a hard part. It sure felt like all of the stages of a "normal" shmupped rolled together with that difficulty curve. I think the first two boss patterns could've been improved somehow. Especially the second pattern was quite dull, even though it offered the risk vs. reward way of shooting the boss by putting part of your ship inside it.

I actually only lost one life in the last stage of the boss fight, going slowly in a circle in the middle of the arena herded the bullets from both sides quite nicely while allowing me to focus on the boss. Might've just been lucky though ^^.

Melter by Mase 2015-05-06T22:58:00

Like others have mentioned it has a great mood, but it's hard in the most annoying way possible. Didn't take me long to start to hate it, sadly.

WMD (With My Dog) by Oborux 2015-04-27T19:03:00

The windows version is totally unplayable.

The ball mechanics do not work (http://i.imgur.com/2kc52l6.gif) and even when running around by myself death seems to lurk around every corner and after each door, which, combined with the fact that restarting takes quite a while is really annoying. I also couldn't tell what each of the things was supposed to do other than kill me. I touched some birthday cake I guess, but it didn't do much. The dog symbols had me clueless too. Music was also quite jarring.

TeleMage by ProjectX593 2015-04-24T02:51:00

Interesting concept, but the enemies really should have more of a survival instinct :P. Especially the wizards we're easy to dispose of by teleporting them to the flames. I have to admit that I died a few times trying to do that though, after missing the teleportation bolt.

The aesthetic and gameplay is good and like already mentioned an (ambient) background song would've pushed the mood even further. Got to 40 kills on my best try, but I guess I played way too aggressively overall.

N.O.D.E. by SimonLarsen 2015-04-23T22:09:00

I on the other hand think that the dash was amazing. Especially when combined with a whirlwind kick! That said the main weapon was (rightfully so) more intriguing against masses of enemies.

Really nice aesthetic and gameplay. Finished in 12:47 with 134300 points. A leaderboard would've been fancy ;).

A Knight and A Line by Squeka 2015-04-24T14:38:00

Seeing your post on the front page immediately got me intrigued. Even though I didn't grow up with "choose your own adventure" type of games I somehow still got very nostalgic playing this. I love how in each Ludum Dare there is at least one idea or execution so unique, that it almost leaves me speechless.

Didn't notice any incorrect links either, even though I checked all of the different routes. Of course it was really short and didn't provide a challenge to speak of, but I still enjoyed it greatly.

PHARBA by Awpteamoose 2015-04-21T18:40:00

Too bad I didn't have anybody to play with. I thought the game was bugged for a moment, but then I realized that there were invisible walls :P.

Interesting idea and it looks and feels pretty nice too.

Dirty Fork: Unleash the Mayhem by SmilingCat 2015-04-22T19:09:00

For some reason the game decided that I wanted to move the camera up and down by moving the left stick horizontally and turn it by using the L2 and R2 buttons of my PS3 controller by default :P. Good thing unity has control rebinding in the launcher!

But I'm somewhat disappointed that these fools don't follow the proper food fight etiquette, I had hoped for much more mayhem! At least I had a waiter throw a hot dog at me.

God's Going to Cut Em Down by emmelineprufrock 2015-04-24T15:41:00

Played trough a couple of different paths. The art was nice and it was also cool how subtle the storytelling was. I found the first choice quite odd, as that was something that my character wasn't responsible for. It just felt weird controlling the world also.

The Great Debate by MiniBobbo 2015-04-24T19:38:00

Went trought three debates. From the description I tought that each round (as they were called in the game) would have different rules, but after playing trough one debate it made much more sense. Scoring systems I saw were vowels to consonants ratio, +2 for each consonant and -1 for each vowel and +10 for each combination of same two letters in a row. It was cool that at the beginning I only had a hunch of what might score highly and after a while I started to grasp the rule too. 10 rounds per debate was a nice length considering the time it took to figure out the scoring.

The debates formed by the "random" words were quite interesting too :P.

Geisterblut by nuprahtor 2015-04-25T22:27:00

Certainly something different, but didn't really like it as a game. I don't really know what you were going for (the shock factor?), but the walk in the beginning albeit moody was just pointless and changing the size of the cursor based on the distance was a poor choice. Not that it wasn't hard enough to shoot at them with the red text spinning in place anyways.

Billy McMath Solves Problems by Manky 2015-04-21T21:42:00

Tried to get all the different scenarios, but I couldn't manage to catch the football (handegg?) even on easy, although I managed to rest on hard :(.

It was actually kinda neat how the ending played out when you failed compared to the "ideal" situation.

This was perfect. Thanks.

World of Hammers by The4thCircle 2015-04-21T15:32:00

I'll check back when you have a version that works without a plugin. Windows build would be acceptable too :P. Too bad you didn't have a controller to play my game with.

World of Hammers by The4thCircle 2015-04-21T16:35:00

Thanks for the windows build, would've knocked myself out but seems like you can't hit yourself in this game ":D".

I am saddened that there's such a thing as a hammer too big, I had to keep switching for smaller hammers so that I could actually move too. And I guess what they say is true; when all you have is a hammer (or a few) everyONE will start to look like nails.

Throw them out! by shatty 2015-04-20T21:04:00

Interesting idea to have every action key randomized. Makes it quite hard too. At first I felt sorry for the cats, but after a while I started to feel sorry for myself.

Good job!

Velo-City by TeamEagle 2015-04-21T17:00:00

Leaderboards? I love leaderboards! Too bad I wasn't able to take the top spot this time :,(.

Really cool game both aesthetically and gameplaywise, but the connection to the theme is indeed loose at best.

Puppet Guardian by sebasRez 2015-04-27T18:37:00

Solid entry, but the camera could've indeed been smoother. I also felt like the flow of the gameplay got interrupted for a while whenever I came upon enemies, since it took a while to figure out how to deal with them. I don't know how to put it, but something just felt a bit "off". Couldn't hear some of the VO either.

At first I thought the barriers would hurt me, but I guess they were just going to block me if I didn't kill the enemies before them? I always killed the enemies on screen before proceeding so I didn't quite catch their role.

Spent a while in the first screen too trying to figure out why I couldn't jump and do the things mentioned in the description, but once I noticed I didn't have the sock puppet yet I realized that the game must be preventing me from doing those things.

Oops... I killed my neighbors by Tork 2015-04-21T00:53:00

Got 100k points. Toasters 2stronk.

Pretty light gameplay wise, probably more of a novelty app than a game. But who am I to categorize, good job!

Scary Faerie by jojocanard 2015-04-20T21:55:00

Also finished on my second try. Nice atmosphere. A restart button would've been cool and I felt it was somewhat pointless to use enter to start, when clicking the mouse would've worked just as well. Good job nonetheless.

Samarkhanda, the Dancing Sword by Mak 2015-04-21T15:18:00

Came because of the name, stayed for the setting :P.

Interesting idea and the music was cool too. The rounds were somewhat too long and it didn't feel like there was much point to it at the moment. Maybe it would've been better if it had progressively harder levels, for instance on level 1 you would need to get some amount of points without killing over a certain amount of other dancers and the limits would get stricter which each passing level. Maybe the other dancers could also move more slowly at first and there could be less of them.

Hue Jedde by Serena 2015-04-23T14:35:00

Looks lovely and the attacking adds a sort of risk vs. reward mechanic to it. The difficulty was pretty good too.

Monster Hugger by jormungandr 2015-04-25T13:31:00

Like others I also had some problems with the bite at first, but after switching to right shift and a two hand setup it went pretty smoothly. The tells were good, but because of my somewhat bad reaction speed I rolled away even before them just to be sure I didn't get hit by that bite.

Great animations and sfx, some kind of a background track would've been nice (maybe some ambient made by slowing down a sentence by 800% or something :P).

I think it was a good choice to focus on polishing what you had, but of course more monsters wouldn't have hurt. Good job!

Night Harvest by gene-z 2015-04-21T00:40:00

The windows version didn't seem to grab the cursor, but luckily I was able to play with a gamepad. The turning was pretty slow though.

Gave up at 21 scarecrows remaining, since it felt like the bird-sounding-bats also got disinterested and stopped picking up the scarecrows.

I didn't quite understand the function of the "blood meter" since you could also shoot without it.

Baldaquin 6 - Beyond the window by Marcellus 2015-04-22T00:34:00

Didn't have the patience to see this trough, controlling those clouds was a tad too hard. Got to 80 something people. The windows version did indeed have some bad slowdowns (freezes even), but I feel like those were caused by garbage collection rather than the amount of sprites. I suspect this because the rain effect disappeared whenever there was such a freeze...

Graviton by Namide 2015-04-24T19:13:00

Audio got annoying pretty fast, but at least there was a mute button so thanks for that. I think the mechanics didn't really go together very well, since getting the cube to the button and moving the player character felt like parts of a different game.

The graphics are nice in their minimalism though. The difficulty was also pretty good.

Terrornado by xbcw 2015-04-21T00:14:00

Should've slipped a Sharknado reference in there :P. 1.7 M in damages though, not to mention the lives lost. Flinging those cars around sure showed the tornade chasers that nature is the boss after all. After reading the description again I noticed the mention of powerups and realized that that must be what those black blotches were. I thought they were blood on my first try. Got to over 2.1 M in damages thanks to them!

Social Sass by abcdef65g 2015-04-25T17:41:00

Ha, that was a pretty cool adventure actually. Quite funny too. Being able to click the enemies' names similarly to how you could click your followers' names would've been quite useful. The graphics were really great, especially during the battle. I liked the little variations in the enemies too. The combat system was pretty interesting with the rechirps and it was nice that there was some variety to them too (the innkeeper being able to heal you). Even more could've been useful.

Sure it has some bugs and/or problems too: http://imgur.com/a/xFaAw. It was also somewhat annoying to keep switching between keyboard and mouse.

Lots of content for a jam game. Solid entry!

Udom Nebdon by pLaw 2015-04-20T23:00:00

Unplayable on my main browser (Pale Moon v. 25.3.0 x64) as it either freezes the whole browser or has a really low fps. Seems to work on Chrome (v. 42.0.2311.90 m) though. I'm not sure if the blue grid-like texture on the mirror was intentional though.

During my second try I also found that I could shine light with the mirror even if it was dark, until I closed the eye further from the beginning. I decided to close that eye first, because the camera angle got me and I got stuck to a wall and killed on my first try. Took me a while to find the exit after managing to close the eye too.

The atmosphere is absolutely fantastic. Been a while since I've played a game with fixed cameras and tank controls, so it's quite nostalgic too. Good job!

You Can Shave the Baby by chikun Dev Team 2015-04-23T18:19:00

While not a new concept, games like these are definitely fun from time to time. Lovely minigames too, although buttering up was somewhat hard it seems. The face on the guy jumping for the pool noodle and missing was the best.

Before playing I was almost certain that the praise in your description was forged, but after playing the game everything checks out.

Limb by Limb by AdamW 2015-05-01T13:52:00

I have to agree with the other comments. It looks and sounds nice so the mood (why have you disabled that rating :P) is definitely good, but I think the mechanic shoudl've been taken further, because it really does play like standard platformer for the most part.

Solid entry though. Didn't encounter any errors either.

Blanket Girl by Chippington 2015-04-21T22:17:00

Great atmosphere but the mechanics and level design definitely need more work. Still managed to finish it though.

Wild tales: enlightenment by psychonull 2015-05-01T13:38:00

Felt bad for the piggy, but since the game told me to do it I had no choice.

Neat collection of minigames. Couldn't click fast enough to beat the car part though.

Love is a Weapon by MdotEdot 2015-05-06T23:17:00

Neat idea to opt out of the rating completely to secure that first place.

Didn't play the game. I guess I feel somewhat cheated. I wan't that mouseclick back!

DoubleNegative by Dickie 2015-04-20T23:33:00

A bit fast for my tastes and it took me a whole round to figure out that you don't actually "shoot" the light but place it where the cursor is. Even then I sometimes had trouble actually killing the enemies. Would've liked some indicator as to how many shots and lives I have left.

You got me good with the options. Twice. Lovely game over commentary too.

Super Burning Mummy! by WhoaConstrictor 2015-04-20T23:53:00

Level design was pretty clever for the most part, but I gave up at the "endless climb of fire with leap of fates and water jugs". The one where you start on a platform with two fires and deadly red stuff under it. I tried it at least 30 times, but was still unable to pass it. I think I got close once, but I'm just not good enough at platformers. Felt too fast and unprecise especially when lit on fire.

Good game design and atmosphere, but the gameplay could use some fine tuning.

Confess-O-Matic by virtualtoy 2015-04-21T23:52:00

Nice mood, but maybe too simplistic. Still, it was fun for a few minutes.

An Unusual Death by Jared Sartin 2015-04-20T22:24:00

Art is indeed nice and the intro adds to the mood.

The gameplay is an entirely different case though. I have no idea how I'm supposed to get the wife downstairs and the husband to the end of the bathroom (if I remember the pictures correctly). Seems like people who enter it slip even before the wife has dropped the... soap? Some way to view the photos while playing would've been useful. Also needed a button for restarting. It also froze just when I struck the neighbour as the husband with the coathanger.

I'll check back later to see if you get it into playable shape.

Where Is Your Gun Now, Mr. Chekhov? by Mike Mezhenin 2015-04-21T22:58:00

Damn, the unconventional guy asked me if the thing he was going to kill me with was an antique, but he meant the CAT all along! Interesting game, played for quite a few round. Great atmosphere too.

Guardian Shield by longshorts 2015-05-01T18:53:00

Played the hard version. Starts kind of slowly and even after several rounds I'm not sure what I should be doing or what the object is. Do I want to break down the "diamond asteroids" and the enemies or do I just want to go as far as possible? Or moderate the two in order to get a highscore?

Not a bad entry though.

Rainyblow Bash by ceosol 2015-04-21T17:33:00

Probably the glitchiest game I've every played. Managed to get to a boss by spamming jump and practically flying there, but he wouldn't die so I gave up.

Ghetto Engineer by Nysten 2015-05-07T14:53:00

Vacuum cleaner and a knife: Powerful, but quite hard to use because you have to retrieve the knife after shooting. Verdict: Failure.

Broomstick and a rope: A whip with some good crowd control, but the damage was lacking. Verdict: Failure.

A tube, fuel(?) and a ball: A true ghettoblaster. Somewhat hard to hit people though. Verdict: Failure.

Vacuum cleaner and a ball: A worse ghettoblaster. Verdict: Failure.

Vacuum cleaner and a broomstick: Average damage, nice knockback, good hitbox. Hard to use because you have to retrieve the broomstick. Verdict: Failure.

But add a piece of rope into the mix and you're set for life. That thing was beastly. Verdict: Overwhelming success.

(Checked the thinky.txt too and seems like I missed some obvious combinations :P).

---

Cool crafting system and it was neat that not all "weapons" were equally viable. Worked decently for me and looks good enough for a compo entry.

But the main reason I played this was the fact that it was made in CoolBasic. Had to dig out an old USB drive with my own CoolBasic projects on it and judging by the modified field on the files it has been nearly ten years since then! Judging by my compo entry for this LD I haven't come far enough since that day...

Good luck, fellow Finndev. Keep it up!

One Hundred Million Screams by Secret_Tunnel 2015-05-01T19:00:00

Ha. It was a text adventure just like I thought from the name and the thumbnail.

I'm pretty sure this won't even be last in some of the categories.

Jump Gun by renanlindner 2015-04-24T21:14:00

This needs leaderboards so bad :P. Managed to collect all the squares (I think) with just over 20 shots! Could've used a few less too, but wanted to play sure on that last part. The mechanics downside is that you really need to know the level beforehand, or else you can't play optimally, which was a bit annoying for me. Well, after a few "scouting rounds" I had a good plan going so it wasn't too bad.

Nice idea, even though it really lacks polish. Played nicely with a controller. Only problem was that it was somewhat hard to tell which way you were facing because of the placeholder graphics.

Battle of Tolzford by Franklin's Ghost 2015-04-21T22:22:00

Simple but with a message. Word yo.

It's dangerous to go alone... by Hamsternator 2015-04-21T13:35:00

Probably wouldn't have realized that you could scroll the map if it wasn't for the comments :P. As already mentioned it was pretty hard to know when you could summon more enemies too (windows version).

Could have used some more depth, but at least it's pleasant to look at.

Transposition by Robotic-Brain 2015-04-21T19:03:00

Good job trying out something different, even though it is indeed quite like a tech demo. The puzzle had me thinking for a while though, so I too got some fun out of it.

Once again, thanks for going the extra lenght to play my game :). Who knows, maybe it taught you more about Löve too. And if you took a look at the source it probably taught you what to not do too :D.

Lagman by reiknight 2015-04-22T18:56:00

Even if the lag isn't real the frustration sure is. Good thing the rest of the levels were easier than that first one. I must've spent at least five minutes on one of the platforms there. Loved the idea and execution, but I hope for the love of God that no one ever makes a game like this again :D.

I like how @Cheshyr put it:
"i kind of hate your game, but in a good way."!

CitySim 3000 by smbe19 2015-04-21T18:47:00

Worked nicely for me apart from a few minor camera glitches.

Interesting atmosphere, but the gameplay felt a bit simplistic. Spent most of the game just staying still and hacking car after car and driving them into the nearby polices :P. After I won I took a quick look around the city too.

I dont want to hear it by ekun 2015-04-25T15:22:00

Perfect the first stage pretty easily, but after 10 tries my best scores in stage 2 were 26, 27 and 28. Argh. The last formation with beats missing on the right got me every time. Decided to just listen to the last song from the resource folder, even though it wasn't quite the same :P.

Minimalistic but juicy graphics and satisfying, albeit hard gameplay. I also got a Rhythm Heaven vibe from it. Good job!

Ps. Even though our implementations are really different I feel that our usage of the theme was really similar, so of course I'll have to give you full marks on the theme part.

I dont want to hear it by ekun 2015-05-01T21:03:00

Had to come back to this because the first song has been playing in my head for days :P. What an earworm. Perfected it on first try but still had 44 misses in the second stage.

Valo/Varjo by Windmill Games 2015-04-23T17:51:00

What an useful companion/weapon <3. The length was really good as was the content and overall execution. Didn't really need to throw the ball around though, since carrying it got rid of the enemies too (like a chainsaw!).

Got stuck in level 2, because I went for the end first and the enemy pushed the block back into its original place while I was there :P.

Expected there to be secrets in those walls, they would've fit the style and feel of the game very well, but even as it is its a splendid compo game.

Wounded by Words by Traumendes_Madchen 2015-04-24T01:22:00

Spent more time on this than on many of the other entries combined. After getting the normal ending I also checked all the other endings and paths too. Sure there were some typos but actually surprisingly few considering the staggering amount of content. Of course proofreading all of it wouldn't hurt, but it's definitely more than good enough for a jam game.

I like how Dave created some conflict in the group, but still wasn't an over the top "bad guy", just somewhat insensitive. Would've liked a Dave ending too, or at least more interaction with him. All the other characters felt very real and believable too with their own lives and problems. I also liked how much variation there was in the facial expressions and having the characters blink was a really nice touch. As were the semi-animated backgrounds and varied music.

Good amount of (varied) interaction too. The choices were also good in that when selecting one I could be almost certain of the effect it would have. In my opinion it's quite annoying how in some visual novels you think a choice will have a certain effect, but actually it leads to something completely unintended (well, not that life sometimes isn't like that :P).

It's true that explicitly spelling out things can be a double edged sword, but I didn't think it was overdone here and in my opinion fit with the image that I had of the protagonist.

Not much actual criticism, but rather praise; really solid entry all around. Saw your post during the weekend about almost not participating, but I'm glad you saw it through after all.

Druid of the Moon by kmasiulis 2015-04-21T23:15:00

Others have already said everything there is to say. Good luck on your engine project.

Abyssinum by kaa 2015-04-24T19:17:00

The windows download is missing the data-folder required for running the game. I'll check back sometime in the future to see if it's fixed.

Abyssinum by kaa 2015-04-25T15:26:00

Interesting setting and the weapon sure was unconventional. I didn't really feel in control though, since there were so many different things to pay attention to. Passed by pretty much randomly pressing QWE.

Stoned Scarecrow by gillenew 2015-04-29T17:41:00

The art is indeed nice, but the gameplay is absolutely dreadful. Shooting felt very unresponsive and the time it took to get even the first level was way too long. The gameplay felt quite slow too, since you could only shoot once every second or so.

Tried the updated version too and while it was somewhat better it still had its problems, since killing anything at the start was too hard.

I think that the base power of the player should be incereased in both versions so that you could actually get something done even without any upgrades.

Her Pen by Miko 2015-04-23T23:02:00

Interesting artstyle. Things went a little too smoothly in the story in my opinion though, would've liked some more conflict and character and/or world building. Still a nice little read for a jam game, good job!

War Game? by Ovidios 2015-05-02T17:09:00

The ending animation didn't play for me either. Checked what it should've looked like from the assets. Quite annoying that you couldn't scroll the console nor the chat the backspace indeed deleted a lot more than it should have.

I guess this is quite fitting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHWjlCaIrQo. Left a lot to be desired.

Fe-Line of Sight by davient 2015-04-22T00:01:00

You weren't kidding about the bugs. On my first try I couldn't get her to even enter the building and on my second try I actually managed to clear the first floor, but she wouldn't move past that point. Should've probably picked a gun from the fallen dude and go finish my part of the revenge.

Discord Seeder by ztiromoritz 2015-04-24T23:11:00

Failed at the last pattern. Lost all of my lives there wondering what to do :P. After watching the video I finally realized that the color of the circles was important to the mechanic. I mean I had a feeling, but didn't know for sure until that.

Had some short freezes which were somewhat annoying. The tutorial/intro was well made, but could've been skippable so that playing again wouldn't have been as frustrating.

WEEABO QUEST by akios 2015-04-23T20:31:00

*Unsheathes waifu*
*Teleports behind you*
Why is there no button for flipping the pillow? That would've been useful. For reasons. Or maybe it should've been a victory animation.

Made it to round 3 but ran out of ammo and promptly got owned in melee combat. I wonder if I can take my waifu with me to Valhalla...

I think the selection of waifus was adequate and the basic gameplay worked. Maybe some variation would've been nice instead of just endless hordes of... Aliens?

Gun Gun Evolution by Indiestry 2015-04-23T16:05:00

Ha, it even spawned me outside the map at one point. Only had to skip one level after which I got the laser show to rank II and could kill the enemies outside the map too :P.

Not much of a challenge, but it was interesting to have a really overpowered weapon for a change.

Replied to your comment on my game page, maybe you could expand upon your problem a bit more?

Zolita Mansion by Farfin 2015-04-22T00:48:00

Looks decent, but the cross is somewhat annoying is sometimes you get instantly killed by the enemy you guard from after using it.

Managed to exorcise Zolita, so I consider it my victory. Maybe I should've also escaped or something.

Her Majesty's Apathy Bomb by ianburnette 2015-05-07T00:18:00

Impressive work for a compo entry. Of course I went for all of the endings since you also went the extra length of making them so easy to discover :).

It was a neat experience even if the gameplay elements were pretty light. I had a good time though, so thanks are in order.

Mellowball by Hatsome 2015-04-21T18:32:00

Ran to the same problem as @Catwheel, and then this happened: http://i.imgur.com/kS15cg6.png. None of them would move either :P.

All of the slimes seemed to go to the same side, which made it even more simple than it initially seemed. The collision between player and the walls felt quite sticky too.

Bomb bringer by SMASH BASH 2015-05-06T23:46:00

Crashed (my ship) near the end during my first flight, but managed to finish after that and I have to say that my second run was far more enjoyable (went for as much speed as I could get, with some score multiplier and health thrown in there too).

Good things:
- Nice ending
- Good risk vs. reward gameplay
- Simple, yet good visuals, even if the ship blocked the view somewhat.
- The upgrades make it feel like I'm progressing even if I fail. And they made me want to fly low for that extra score.
- I felt that the collisions were pretty accurate, definitely didn't feel cheap.
- The terrain was well varied too, thus forcing me to constantly keep moving.

Bad stuff:
- The upgrades made it unnecessarily grindy. Since this is a Ludum Dare entry I would've (if possible) implemented a leaderboard instead of the upgrades so that there was some incencitive to fly as low as possible. Flying low could've also boosted your speed or something like that to make the experience as good as possible on the first try, since judging by the comments, that's how long people are generally willing to play. I would've also made the base stats better (especially the speed) so that the player gets into the action straight away.
- The low base speed made the stage seem far too long on my first try.
- Collision often resulted in further collisions as already mentioned.
- Music loop was too short and got a bit jarring.

So yeah, I'd actually recommend people to crash once they get ~30k score and try again, that way it's A LOT more fun. Good game, although hindered by a slow start. In that sense it's not a very good fit for the Ludum Dare formula of people spending only a few minutes on your game, but I liked it a lot.

The Heist by blaster391 2015-04-21T13:29:00

Was just going to switch to a guard to clear the area before entering the vault with over ten thousand in my pockets and I press R instead of tab. At least a confirmation would've been nice. I stopped playing then and there, sorry.

Other than that it was a nice game. The AI was indeed quite dumb, but it still provided somewhat of a challenge. Graphics and audio got the job done.

I think it was a good thing that hacking and possessing were two separate things, since you could move to a safer place before possessing a guard in the open. The aiming mechanic did take a while to get used to.

Crystalline by TheMeorch 2015-04-27T20:46:00

That was epic.

As already mentioned the puzzles were well constructed and the mood spot on. Especially loved the ending. Took a while to realize what was going on, but it only added to the mood so not really an issue. It was fun figuring it out on my own instead of being told what to do.

Letter Spray by Megapiemanphd 2015-04-21T00:28:00

Interesting twist on typing game genre with the space and backspace used for moving. Made it pretty damn hard though. Managed to clear level one without any bombs touching the ground, level two with two bombs hitting the ground and at level three I gave up after some tries :P. Seemed to stutter a bit from time to time even on a good computer. Nice voiceover.

99 problems (and a bitch is one) by nassi 2015-04-20T21:41:00

@kyyrma: So in other words it was an emotional experience that also moved you :P? Quite literally.

@TobiasNL: I'll ask here too: what gamepad did you use? Thanks for the interest!

@jojocanard: Well, death is quite a hassle to drive away (3 hits), but illness shouldn't be too much of a problem (2 hits).

99 problems (and a bitch is one) by nassi 2015-04-20T21:44:00

@nihilaleph: That's among the most common childhood of memories of anyone who owned a Nintendo 64! Thanks for playing.

@Jared Sartin: It was supposed to be comical, but then I added the anime face and got carried away. Here's the original plan: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m0rfli7pidc0i8w/I_figured_it_out.png.

99 problems (and a bitch is one) by nassi 2015-04-20T22:39:00

@pikmin4000: Added an edit to the description. I'll update it with better advice if I figure the problem out.

99 problems (and a bitch is one) by nassi 2015-04-21T18:52:00

@all: Thanks for the comments! Shouldn't have kept making it harder as I progressed it seems :P.

What is winning after all. Maybe the difficulty is just a metaphore for our lives. Or maybe I just made that up to justify my actions. Oh well, at least there's different bad endings for you to look at :).

99 problems (and a bitch is one) by nassi 2015-04-21T18:57:00

@Robotic-Brain: So it was indeed because Löve natively has support only for the most widely used gamepads... Thanks for going the extra length! Next time I'll just make it so that users can bind their own keys if the gamepad isn't regocnized.

99 problems (and a bitch is one) by nassi 2015-04-23T15:51:00

@duck: Maybe Leap Motion and an Oculus Rift would be more modern ;).

@SmilingCat & @reiknight: Thank you for your kinds words :3.

@Indiestry: Just select a lane with the DPAD or ABXY keys of your gamepad and then start doing the ol' titty tornado. The moans will come out in the lane that you have selected. That's really all there is to it.

99 problems (and a bitch is one) by nassi 2015-04-24T12:51:00

@Indiestry: The symbols represent the bad thoughts and problems of the protagonist, so it's just about making them disappear before they get to you. The ending depends entirely on which problem gets you, so the lanes are irrelevant. Thanks for the reply, I can now see that I should've probably explained it better to begin with.

Let dat Bass Cannon Kick it. by MarthMadness 2015-04-24T19:45:00

Bah, I thought it would be entirely in HTML but you had some javascript there too :P. Good job learning something new, although the resulting game is quite lacking in many departments.

Why exactly did your teacher request you make this though? I want to know more about the situation :P.

Deadly rain by Sublustris 2015-04-23T20:14:00

All of this has been said before, but I'll just say it again, since it's how feel about the game.

The atmosphere is great thanks to the art and the audio and even the game mechanic adds to it. Unfortunately the very same mechanic also makes the game really frustrating to actually play. I must've spent over half an hour on this with my record being the big cube "box" if you know what I mean? The part after the one with lots of platforms, pretty early on. Maybe part of the problem is that the missiles actually explode when they reach your x-coordinate, instead of actually seeking the enemies. Nevertheless, when I didn't get killed by napalm falling into a hole where I couldn't get out from I got killed by a soldier's laser trying to dodge said napalm. I think it could've been fixed if the map was larger vertically, since that would offer you more possible routes and thus reduce the RNG element.

I really wanted to like this, but the gameplay got too frustrating. I like the idea of a threat and/or randomly changing map though, so with some tweaking the gameplay too could've been a hit. At the moment I can only congratulate you for the atmosphere you manage to create.

Not My Panties! by Karai17 2015-04-21T23:46:00

You sure reeled me in with that name and picture. Interesting choice to use Löve for 3D stuff. Your zip is missing the 32-bit versions of msvcp120.dll and msvcr120.dll though, but after I grabbed those from my Löve 0.9.2 folder it worked smoothly.

Gameplay was just me spamming Girl Power though, so not the most impressive thing in that regard :P.

The Trials Of Chronos by pk 2015-04-21T13:07:00

Took me a lot of time to grasp the game mechanics and I only did so because I finally managed to link the terms used inside the game to programming terms (physical character controller vs. non-physical).

Took a while, but I got all of the stars except the one on the level with a rising cube. Seems like there was some kind of a forcefield that prevented me from getting to the platform that had the star...

Atmosphere works, but way too confusing at the start. I'm glad I stuck with it though.

Snow Cones by Mechamew 2015-05-07T14:08:00

Hngh. Came for the cuteness and cuteness was what I got. Really nice mood and even if there wasn't much interaction it was handled quite fittingly. The character customization at the beginning was neat, too bad it didn't carry over into the rest of the game.

You could've mentioned that the Web link was actually Unity stuff so I could've switched to Chrome straight away. A windows distribution would've been even better for me personally.

All in all a really nice experience, even if the gameplay part is a bit on the light side. You even have the same take on the theme as I did (well, not that much cuteness in my game), so of course that's a plus :).

Honey, I'm Home Alone by NoGrapes 2015-04-21T22:45:00

Didn't really see the point of the marbles, since just rushing to the panic room without caring about the bees seemed like the best course of action.

Nice visuals but lackluster gameplay. Interesting sfx.

Good Grandpa Simulator by eddynardo 2015-04-21T12:18:00

I guess the name doesn't mean that the grandpa is good but that the simulator is good :P. That was one mean grandpa after all. The levels were pretty straightforward and quick so I think at least a few more complex levels involving the candy and flying would've been nice. Good job for a jam game though.

Dare To Juice by Dejvo 2015-04-25T16:22:00

Short indeed, played trough a few times and on my fastest go I just "drilled" straight down due to conveniently placed oranges. Didn't take many seconds :P. Ran out of juice on one of the tries so a restart button would've been cool. Instead of closing the game when it ends you should've just started it again. Not that many people would've played it again, since the replay value really isn't there.

Moving around was somewhat hard due to the bumby terrain and especially the jump felt a bit awkward as already mentioned by @Crumpet.

Good job on your first LD entry.

Not Nice Knight by Nebulaic Toaster 2015-04-24T19:58:00

I think being a Quite Nice Knight fit me a lot better after all :). This ascends from a text adventure right into visual novel territory.

Of course the setting could've been deeper and the story more elaborate, but it was quite nice even as is.

Sticks and Stones by adsilcott 2015-04-21T17:09:00

Didn't take much to get him down after so many compliments.

Minimalistic, perhaps more so than I'd wanted.

Congratulations for your first LD entry :).

Bar Fight by nihilaleph 2015-04-20T22:04:00

Who needs Drunken Fist when you have Drunken Piano! The last boss took a few tries, but I think the difficulty was quite nice. Graphics and sounds are pretty basic but they get the job done. Good job on your first LD :).

Word Warriors by UKCoder 2015-04-20T20:36:00

Minor bug: Mordrax (or is it Mordrak, the description seems to disagree about that :P) was unable to come up with a word a few times and each time it displayed the word "CLEM" after his turn. Might've been the last word he played?

Reminded me somewhat of Puzzle Quest and I actually found it really amusing to play. I would've liked it if the words were selected by choosing the letters with a mouse though, because the automatic matching sometimes chose normal characters when special characters were available for the word.

Won with my second try using the word "OX", sadly I didn't spot a more insulting word for ending it :(.

Also it seems that your game has become self aware: http://i.imgur.com/KPn5bLE.jpg

Garbarrage by thenoviceengineer 2015-04-20T20:49:00

Installers and game jams are an iffy combination, so if possible a directly executable game would've been better.

The music was good, but the sfx were a bit annoying since only one instance of them could be playing at any given time(?). Fridges op, nerf please.

Dakimania by bpleonvong 2015-04-21T12:08:00

The gameplay is indeed somewhat wonky and the text really small all around. The story text was especially hard to read, because it looked like it didn't have any spaces for some reason. I kind of didn't want to help my fellow otaku though, so I could keep my waifu all to myself.

Ninja Swapper by Plustech 2015-05-07T22:15:00

Obvious things first: at least use "Web (Unity)" if the game requires the Unity plugin :P.

The game feels good, which is one of the most important things for a sidescrolling platformer. At first I thought it felt kind of slippery, but that was only for a few seconds. Might be because of the animation. The particle effect felt out of place at some points too, maybe because it follows the player while in mid air for a while. Not really sure. Sometimes it took me a while to realize I had just died, that could've been more clearly marked in my opinion. Felt almost anticlimatic at the moment.

Some way to restart the whole game would've helped with speedrunning. Should've also put a timer inside the game for added stress.

The graphics are nice especially for the characters. The environment tiles could use some randomization though.

Audio was pretty subtle, since I had to open the game again to refresh my memory on that. It's not irritating at least, but not memorable either. Very fitting though.

Megane Fever by Park 2015-04-22T00:09:00

Thanks for the soundless menu. I wish the site would just allow me to disable autoplay altogether though.

I felt bad for chasing the guys off, since what they did was only logical. Megane is love, megane is life. Lovely art, gameplay could've used a little something more :).

The Song of Aria by sydan 2015-04-21T23:11:00

Nice atmosphere but as others have mentioned the corners and walls hindered your movement somewhat (I guess that's how it is for blind people...). Also had some difficulties trying to gauge when to sing while inside the "glyph rectangle" to destroy the enemies. Solid entry though.

Apex Experiment by Sammuurraaaii 2015-04-24T20:58:00

My AI buddy seemed to head for random walls each time. Also whenever I got near the rectangle thing on the other side of the room the game reseted, so I guess that counts as winning?

The mood was pretty nice, but the gameplay quite lacking. Best moment for me was when I got near that spiral thingy for the first time :).

Kid's Nightmare by Neodreamy 2015-04-23T22:30:00

Well, the slow walking at least hides the shortness somewhat :). Really solid job for a first timer though, good job! The enemies made quite the sound when they "died". Background music would've definitely been cool.

BossRun 3000 DeLuxe by ohai1 2015-04-21T17:20:00

Only tried twice but the difficulty curve is pretty bad. The snake was mind numbingly easy but the robot quite hard, because jumping over him often resulted in getting hit by a missile, the robot or both.

Nice graphics and overall atmosphere too.

DRILL KNIGHT by Cryotube 2015-04-23T15:13:00

Great idea and execution is spot on too. Different enemy types would've added to the experience, but for a Ludum Dare game this was more than enough.

My best score was 28. Still a long way to go :P.

TOUCH MY POOBY by sxmn 2015-04-21T01:23:00

You already had me cracking up in the description, and I felt you at "-i thought it was funny at first but now it seems dumb and i wasted a whole weekend" :P. I also can't help but wonder what the ultimate meaning of pooby, or poobis as those in the know call it, is...

Took me 199,78 seconds. Full on glass cannon is the One True Path.

It was great.

Sam Backus by sbackus 2015-04-23T14:59:00

Got an alert saying: "Sorry to interrupt, but this story's code has got itself in a mess (ReferenceError: Howl is not defined).
ou may be able to continue playing, but some parts may not work properly." on my first try. On my second try the minigame loaded properly though.

Made it to the second minigame, but then an enemy spawned on top of me when I was near the edge figuring out the controls. Didn't feel like doing it again since it started from the beginning.

Lawyer Golf by kevinthr 2015-05-06T23:11:00

Same problem on Pale Moon x64 as @mildmojo had, not much of a surprise since it's based on Firefox. Worked nicely on Chrome.

Even with black and white graphics and no sound the mood was pretty good, somehow it reminded me of American Psycho, especially towards the start. Nice banter and an interesting ending.

I'm actually glad it ended there though. Even if minigolf games are kind of fun the controls got to me quite fast. There was lots of down time too, which might've helped the mood but not the gameplay.

A MineSweepEars Island by Dhim 2015-04-24T21:42:00

I also had no idea how to use the sound to my advantage. As already mentioned the line effectively hid the number preventing me from continuing. Also having no way to mark the spotted mines was quite irritating.

My best score by randomly flailing around was 590. When actually trying the results were much worse.

Time ran out as a sound was playing and that sound continued into the next round so I had to reload the page.

I did not understand this game.

X-11 "Gust Gunner" by cowboycolor 2015-04-25T14:19:00

Felt really good with a controller (even though my setup forced me to use the left analog stick instead of the DPAD). The whole gameplay made me want to go as fast as possible and even though I'm pretty bad at sidescrolling platformers I was able to pull of some nice stunts. The difficulty was quite steep but also fair, so good job in that regard. Although the flying thingies almost drove me insane in the first level. The checkpoints were placed nicely. Hardest part for me was probably the "Spike Laden W of Death" near the beginning of the first level. Took me quite a while to manouver past that.

Had to quit through task manager, since even alt-f4 wouldn't work. Also the jumping sound would play when pressing the jump button while dead.

But all in all, a great feeling and pretty polished game. Good job!

UnCUMventional Weapon by Caio Varalta 2015-04-22T00:23:00

Lessons learned:
- fuck right in the pussy
- don't steal
- gambling is profitable
- people don't really mind if you call them horrible names

Quite crude in a lot of ways :P.

Skyku by kabutakogames 2015-04-21T14:39:00

Cool idea and I also got a general grasp of the syllables used in English thanks to this. I think I managed to clear all of the planets, some of them with perfect haikus even!

Comment in haiku:
the game was interesting,
thanks for making it.

TETRATOR by Trasevol_Dog 2015-04-25T20:56:00

Interesting mashup, even if the difficulty ramps up pretty fast. Took me some tries to get used to the controls and the fact that you could move the block while on the ground for so long. I guess my mind was already conditioned on how a tetris game should feel :P.

Nice juiciness and the minimalistic graphics worked. The screenshake could've been toned down just a tad though. Audio wasn't too bad either, but I can see (or rather hear?) it getting annoying after a while.

Really solid first entry, good job!

By the way, I don't think there's an easier way to get your controller supported by my game. I should've programmed it a bit differently to begin with, but oh well. Thanks for the interest though!

Braids by luizgama 2015-05-07T00:31:00

Cute graphics, but definitely not enough variation in the gameplay to keep it interesting. The difficulty also seemed to stay the same throughout so finally I budged and let one of them climb to the tower. Also takes too long to restart if you manage to fail (I admit it, I failed on my first try).

Mørke by pstudio 2015-05-01T15:20:00

Died after making the decision and after that I couldn't get past this part: http://i.imgur.com/7mSwkJz.png

I also didn't quite understand the enemy mechanic; just let them hit you three times and be done with it? Couldn't seem to avoid them. If that's so the part with 12 dogs was quite tedious, since it took a lot of backtracking to the health globe...

The "You must make a choise" part was also frustrating, since the run to the disappearing platformer part (which took me nearly ten tries) was long and boring.

Also pretty annoying that you're supposed to read the text but there's something chasing you so there really isn't time for it.

Nice atmosphere, but the gameplay is mediocre at best.

A.R.C.K by morbidcamel 2015-04-25T15:56:00

Didn't get far on my own so I downloaded the source. After going through some of it (mainly the TreeOfKnowledge.cs) I have to admit that I still don't get it. Literally 2deep4me.

It looked kind of nice and had an interesting mood I guess, but at least for me it just wasn't a whole lot of fun.

A.R.C.K by morbidcamel 2015-04-25T17:44:00

@morbidcamel: I'm indeed not a conspiracy theorist. I could kinda see something with the biblical and alien themes in there, but still couldn't grasp your train of thought. Good luck with Inhabitant!

Triangular by pss 2015-04-21T18:10:00

The aesthetic is really nice, but the gameplay got boring in about 10 seconds :(.

Congratulations for your first finished game and entry :).

Amy and the Magic Hammer by duck 2015-04-21T15:07:00

Indeed quite simple, but congratulations on your first LD entry nonetheless.

Restarted the game a few times by closing it before I realized you could restart with control :P. At first I just stood in a corner whacking myself in the head with the hammer, but then I realized I had to act quickly or the enemies would soon take over.

legumes by honosstoa 2015-04-21T14:51:00

Tried out all of the weapons, but seems that there was no real variety to them which is a shame.

Pretty simple, but it's a game. Good job on your first LD!

Celebrity Fart by lucien 2015-04-21T12:29:00

Got 1220 points: http://i.imgur.com/mUwkk4w.jpg

Some of the powerups were quite hard to get, since there was an "enemy" immediately behind them. Also sometimes the celebrities would explode even if I farted in a different lane and just moved to the lane where they were coming from.

Good job for a first entry :P.

OI by orco 2015-04-24T02:30:00

Quite hard, but an interesting idea. Nice minimalistic atmosphere to it too. Like someone on the gamejolt page mentioned, it felt like more and more shapes were spawning the longer you played. I'm not sure but I felt that staying still also affected it? Managed to get quite a nice score after going outside of the screen. Eventually got killed by a stray "bullet" I guess. Also noticed the already mentioned bug of the high scores only showing your latest score after you played an extra round.

Lasers have recoil, right? by th4t 2015-04-21T00:02:00

Neat design and the difficulty is spot on for a jam game. And lasers do indeed have recoil for the same reason that light sails work for space travel :P! Timmy is probably quite a small bot if that is enough recoil to move him...

Thug Life by ChaosRound 2015-04-21T21:10:00

420 rate it.

F.U.M.S (Fucked Up Missile System) by ElectroYak 2015-04-27T21:16:00

It has such a simple risk vs. reward scheme going on and yet it lured me in with full force. Had it had online leaderboards I would've probably never been heard from again... My best scores after quite a lot of tries was 31. I'm not sure whether or not I like it that you can only tell when a missile is going to explode from the shaking and the color.

The moving animation would play even when pressing the arrow keys and while in the countdown. Also when the sprites were in specific positions some pixels from adjecent things in the spritesheet(?) got displayed in the sides. Having some transparent borders between your sprites in the spritesheet will fix that if that's what it's about.

Neat little entry. Standing still is probably the most unconventional weapon :P.

Soul Breaker by DeadFragment 2015-04-25T00:38:00

Damn, the playthrough is just under 17 minutes yet it took me over an hour to beat this, probably closer to two. Really good value for my money ;)!

Took some screenshots while playing: http://imgur.com/a/hRuAw. Used some epic paint magic to combine some of the images to better show the place where it happened.

The first one highlights a spot where the ball lost all it's speed on the horizontal axis, bounced like crazy and crashed the game.

Second one... Yeah, the game had a really lovely sense of adventure and discovery! A minimap would've been nice (with the locations of pushed buttons marked) :P. Went back and forth quite a bit.

Seems like it wasn't a bug after all (checked from the playthrough after finishing). Took a while to figure out that you were supposed to give the heart a boost since it inherited your velocity... I guess I already noticed that when throwing the hearth while "boost jumping", but still. That was a hard part. But I prefer that to handholding so good job!

I also did the button after that a little differently from the playthrough. I actually managed to shoot the heart into it from below, as illustrated in the fourth picture. I love it when there is more than a single solution to a problem :).

So yeah, crazy polished and a lot of fun, even if some of the shots are quite tricky. Definitely my favourite minigolf platformer ;). The mood was also just perfect. The dialogue was funny but not over the top. I have a hard time believing this was made in just 72 hours. This is among the best games I've played in any Ludum Dare I've been a part of (starting from LD27 without missing any of them). I'm speechless (you wouldn't guess from the length of this comment though...). First time I've given out full marks in all categories.

Thank you for making this!

Trojan Horse Simulator: The Art of Subterfuge by freeholdgames 2015-04-24T13:57:00

Managed a distance of 300 cubits on my best try, but then I encountered a steep valley with a hole in the middle. Deep valleys seemed to be where I would lose most of the time. Reading the up + right tip in the comments made the climbs a bit easier though.

It was pretty neat twist on the hill climber formula, but the RNG makes it pretty difficult indeed.

Rescue Mr.Furrybottom by dray 2015-04-21T14:59:00

Played the windows bugfix version with a controller.

Neat intro cinematic thingy in the menu. The combat was also quite enjoyable, albeit a bit too easy thanks to that dodge roll. The game also felt very good and smooth. Some simple sound effects could've done wonders and of course I would've wanted for it to be longer and have more variety too :P.

Great entry.

Existential Balloon Simulator by alex bergin 2015-05-02T13:21:00

What is a balloon? A miserable little piece of plastic filled with gas or a mixture of gases. One could argue that the plastic of the balloon is a representation of our identity - sense of self - and only by shattering that can we attain true oneness with the universe and through that absolute peace. When we view the events of the game in this light hitting the fan becomes something you desire for instead of a thing to avoid, surely the weird control scheme only aims to simulate the hardship involved in realizing that that's what your purpose in life was. Balloons also represent an interesting view of reincarnation, since the soul encased in that plastic shell is never truly lost, just mixed according to the laws of entropy...

There is also a much more direct meaning to this game which we can see when looking at the so called "game over" text: "You lived for X seconds.". Truly that implies that instead of wasting our lives away we should engage in meaningful activities, live in the moment, just like we actually lived playing this game!

Truly an enlightening experience, I only wished that it would've ran at 30 FPS in 21:9 aspect ratio for a more cinematic effect. This game truly is like an onion in more ways than one.

Big Man Moai by track02 2015-04-21T17:25:00

Got stuck into the edge of the screen. Which made Earth shake so hard that all of it's inhabitants must have perished :P.

Definitely the most unconvenient weapon so far, but the gameplay could be more varied.

Big Man Moai by track02 2015-04-21T19:21:00

@track02: It was the right edge of the screen.

I think it's because you handle the collisions one frame late as the first thing in the update-function. Thus your dt might vary between the frame where you leave the playfield and the frame where you try to correct that. If the dt is smaller on the next frame the planet might not move back enough and get stuck. There might be more to it though.

In a game like this I suggest handling the collisions after moving everything, so in your case last thing in the update function.

Line 736 of main.lua should probably also have enemy.x < 0 instead of planet.x < 0.

Black Hole Cat(sun) by 2ndHatch 2015-04-23T14:18:00

Not that bad although quite buggy, especially when jumping and whacking with the broom at the same time. Also had some freezes and slowdowns. Nice that it had a few different things to do (or at least different things to whack :P). Got to 99 points.

UnconventionalWarfare by NaKolenke 2015-04-20T23:16:00

Couldn't win even after several tries. The tank always seemed to get me at 6 - 8 thousand points :(. Interesting music choice and the flamethrower was quite satisfying.

UnconventionalWarfare by NaKolenke 2015-04-21T11:46:00

Tried the updated build a few times, but still couldn't beat it. Got a bit over 8000 points though and the music did change so I guess I was somewhat close to the ending.

It's pretty funny how the trees seem to be the only thing you can't burn :P.

Gender Gender by Chikoness 2015-04-21T14:11:00

Tried the windows version.

Character art is nice, but the environment doesn't really match. Also the gameplay is simple yet all sorts of wonky with seemingly unlimited jumping (along with the sound effect) and unresponsive gender switching.

Congratulations on your first game though :P.

Coin Hunter by febryansky 2015-04-21T22:00:00

Way too damn hard. The hitboxes of the rocks are just too small. I managed to pass the first phase by picking a place where only one of the falling rocks could hit me and clicking repeatedly in the lane it would fall in. And then I got to the goddamn boss... I managed to deplete his first health bar by clicking as fast as I could and ignoring the stones but when I realized he had a second phase too I gave up.

Nice atmosphere, but I just can't beat it despite giving it my all.

Sonny & Gloom by Mach60KAS 2015-04-25T14:38:00

Would've liked some rudimentary way of communicating, resorting to barking and spinning in a circle might not have conveyed my message x). Well, we managed to get 226010 points, so not that bad I guess. Started to slow down a bit near the end (that was a lot of enemies!), but still technically impressive.

Networked multiplayer games are always nice, even if a bit risky considering that people might not be able to find company to play them in a game jam. Good job!

Sonny & Gloom by Mach60KAS 2015-04-25T16:37:00

@Mach60KAS: I'll have to make an online multiplayer game sometime in the future too despite the risks involved :P. The idea of playing the game together with the people rating your game feels intriguing, albeit quite time consuming. And of course everything is much more fun with friends... Distant internet friends.

I guess I'll have to check the ghost part in the future too, since that sounded more like my style. Are the characters assigned at random?

TypeFighter by Sheepolution 2015-04-24T18:30:00

Restarted after losing a few lives but managed to beat it without losing any on my second try. The environments offered a lot of good words for me to use as did the situations.

Nice idea and the execution is also flawless. I liked how "unconventional" as a word could be used as a weapon too. Clear winner in the theme department :P.

Dr. Rampage by zzForrest 2015-04-20T20:55:00

Diagonal shooting would've been useful. The doctor must be one strong fella, since he can throw those pills so hard that it makes even robots explode.

Gameplay was basic but it felt pretty good. Strafing and diagonal shooting would've made it feel even better.

Eyebrella by hydancer 2015-04-23T22:23:00

The lack of sound was indeed a shame, but the mood was there even without them. I found the combat quite hard, and I only got to bit over 20 on my best try. My main problem was with the positioning, since you couldn't hit the enemies with the charged attack if you were too lose (or too far for that matter).

Still, a good looking and well functioning game. Good job.

SwordCrafter by Rose 2015-04-21T22:37:00

Gah, was going to say that reverting your last move would've been useful, but it tells you how to do that right there in the info tab :P.

Expected the game to be about making customized swords for different clients, but this is a nice little toy too.

The Reviewer by kyyrma 2015-04-20T21:28:00

Neat. Tough moral choice with Predestination: should I play it and give it 4 stars, or should I just give it 4 stars without even touching it. All aboard the hype train!

The aesthetic worked and the idea was captivating. Not too much to manage at once in my opinion, since the character is such a skilled multitasker. He doesn't even have to stop playing to solve his homework after all.

LD33 — You are the Monster

Ski Free Lunch by 1y1e 2015-08-31T18:51:00

Vastly superior to the SkiFree game I played before this. This is what I expected when I noticed that someone had made a reverse SkiFree. Good job.

i Have a Choise by DiscoFish 2015-08-26T17:38:00

After opening the door the woman darted into the darkness, which somewhat diminished my immersion. It was an interesting experience. Played trough both routes (meaning I just played it once and decided that I'm not going to open the door again, I have a choice after all). Nicely unpredictable too.

B(L)OB by Nikteddy92 2015-08-27T17:21:00

Had like 10 FPS on Pale Moon x64 (a Firefox port), but seemed to run just fine on Chrome. Played a long while on Pale Moon before realizing it should be running faster and was able to got 111% Mass and 110% Density :P. Got bored of the framerate and couldn't find my way out though. The aesthetic works and the basic gameplay is pretty good although it's somewhat annoying to bounce around so much when hitting stuff. Didn't really see any other effects to the liquids than adding or taking from your M/D.

W.U.R.M. by HD408 2015-08-31T19:03:00

The background hurts my eyes and then when I blink I'm already dead :P... Didn't make it to the end, gave it maybe five or so tries before my head started hurting.

I like the "helicopter game" gameplay and it was interesting that eating those pellets wasn't always necessarily good (on my "best" run I was too darn fast and ended up crashing).

The Legend of Piatã by DrZanuff 2015-08-27T12:24:00

Looks good, but I wasn't really a fan of the trial-and-error gameplay. If you were two "lanes" below the cage when it appeared on the right side of the screen there really wasn't a way to get there in time. Same problem with some of the obstacles being hard to avoid if you didn't know about them. Maybe seeing a bit further forward would've helped.

Pinky's Nightmare by zenmumbler 2015-08-27T14:36:00

If only there had been an ambient soundtrack and some tactically placed SFX this would've been true nightmare fuel. Like other people have pointed out there should've been some kind of indication as to where Pinky was looking (eyes ;)). I think the tank controls and fixed camera angles worked wonderfully for what you were going for. Solid entry all around, good job!

Goomba Simulator 2015 by LandoSystems 2015-09-08T16:34:00

The jump felt pretty hyper like someone already mentioned. Other than that it was a really nice experience all around.

Petit Monstre by Jilt 2015-08-27T12:45:00

Looks really adorable, but is sadly riddled with bugs. Sometimes I, the monster, get stuck after performing an action, after which I can do things, but my graphic doesn't change. Also the woman's visual state doesn't seem to go back to being scared after a certain point. She can still smack me with an invisible pillow though. Couldn't get food even after many tries. At least I got the enjoy the cute graphics.

Spooky Cuties by OnlySlightly 2015-09-10T10:17:00

Succesfully romanced fluffymummy, but the game froze after Mark_Mogwai89 said "Oh, just looking for someone :) Maybe someone made rugged and wise by time." and I deleted my first response. Post-compo version running on Pale Moon x64 (a Firefox based browser).

Interesting take on the theme, one I haven't seen before. A bit laggy on parts, but still a solid compo entry.

Vault-LD33 by cmayhem 2015-08-27T18:06:00

Grrrr, why can't that knight just let me hoard the gold, it's not like he has any use for it either >:(. I wonder what the most effective way of playing this would've been, couldn't really protect my gold for all that long. Movement felt a bit wonky probably due to the large hitbox of the player character and combat was a tad annoying with the knockbacks and stuff. Solid entry though, had me defending that ball of gold to my last breath... Or whatever it is that ghosts do :P.

Demon Vessel by drilltail 2015-08-27T16:38:00

Interesting design with different "playable characters" and switching between them on the fly. Encountered only a few bugs, but nothing gamebreaking. Sprites looked nice but the environment was a little plain.

Breakfast Cooking Simulator 2015 by egor-idiot 2015-09-11T06:42:00

Interesting little experience with a twist. Sadly the windows version didn't capture the mouse cursor, so turning was pretty hard since the cursor often left the window. Nice aesthetic and mood, even if I didn't understand the Russian radio :P.

DAMNED by NickZangus 2015-09-10T11:54:00

The real monster might've been me for going after those defenseless girls with such drive. Cool aesthetic and the gameplay, while simple, feels good.

Crepuscule by oxysoft 2015-08-31T18:28:00

Didn't really get a good feeling of the mechanic even after a few minutes of playing it. The monster and child graphics and the particles also conflict with the repeating background quite a bit. The song doesn't feel like a very good fit either like @Jani Nykänen mentioned.

The Loved Ones by Stending 2015-09-09T20:13:00

How can I be losing when I'm winning so much?!

Really well put together and polished, although that I agree with @SoulGame in that some acceleration of the gameplay would've been nice.

EyeShot by parDal 2015-08-31T18:38:00

Pretty easy to just keep switching between two diagonal quadrants while keeping Z pressed, but since the evil laser was so cool of course I had to use it every once in a while too. It had a nice mood to it and I especially loved the song (upload it somewhere if you haven't already :P)! Maybe some kind of progression would've been nice (different adventurers coming to face you with different patterns or something, maybe just more of them at once?) but I guess it'll have to do for a compo game.

The Monster Files by Literal Games 2015-09-10T13:38:00

I liked the investigation parts but the fight parts, not so much. @richardjs already mentioned the puzzle approach and I think that the fights could've been a better fit to the game if they were less action oriented and even more puzzle like. Like having to figure out the monsters weakness and then defeating it with a single move or something. As is I just don't feel the fight scenes really added to the game.

Monsta Stelth Gem by Alan Masimba Walker 2015-08-26T21:42:00

As others have mentioned having some audio (even an ambient soundtrack and some sfx) would've pushed this from good to great. It would've also helped with knowing whether or not you activated the objects succesfully. The mechanics did work wonderfully though and the art was pleasing too. Took a few tries but I found the difficulty to be quite good since the game is so short.

You need a Hug by TiByte 2015-08-26T16:43:00

For me the easy mode felt the hardest, mainly because I couldn't see anything due to the background :P. Beat it on normal though. The voice acted story was a definitive bonus.

The Monster Within by S0lll0s 2015-08-26T17:20:00

Aww, from the description I thought that an AI would take over after I killed someone, meaning that I had to do it isolated from the "good guys" so as to not kill them :P. The idea of two different scores was interesting, but I feel like the gameplay didn't fully support it. Whenever I wanted to only kill the baddies I focused on two or three enemies each time I was going to turn and then just waited for the meter to go down.

Gem Giant by LewisChaplin 2015-08-27T17:42:00

Played on normal, gets super hectic after just a little while :P. Not quite the gameplay I expected, but didn't disappoint either. Really hard to tell which hex I should click with all of the graphics constantly changing. It was easy to differentiate between two different graphics (wooden house with lights on and off), but after some of the houses changed to stone etc. my brain just shorted and I began clicking almost randomly.

Yukko by Meta-link 2015-08-31T16:47:00

The idea is pretty good but as you yourself mentioned the content is a little lacking at the moment. The music loop wasn't my favorite, but the aesthetic felt decent enough.

Mobs, Inc. by Pietro Ferrantelli 2015-08-27T16:25:00

Got to level 83 on my second try. Damn those archers... Really intense gameplay and the game is as polished as gets. I knew I had to play this when I saw the gif with the promotion going on in one of your posts. Nothing bad to say about this really, left me wanting for more!

Nice subtle humor too!

Forest by Frozen Ninja 2015-08-26T18:01:00

Had the same problem as @AdenMansonGames when trying to run the game on Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Ran just fine on my Arch Linux netbook though (also x64). Comparing these versions the Windows versions seems to be zoomed in like 10x, causing the menu to be outside of the screen boundaries.

Not much to do at the moment. I guess after slaying all the "monsters" and collecting the apples(?) I was the only monster left...

Forest by Frozen Ninja 2015-08-27T12:27:00

@Frozen Ninja: Didn't realize there were multiple levels. I'll come back to check them out once you get the Windows version sorted out!

Don't Leave Me by Hamsternator 2015-08-27T17:55:00

It's pretty annoying how this theme doesn't allow any twist endings. It would've been cool if the story presented to the player made him feel like he's the good person at the start (protecting the kid from something) and only in the end it is revealed that not all was as it seemed. I guess you were going for that kind of effect, but me knowing the theme ruined it :(. Maybe you could've played on that though, and made it so that you actually _are_ the good guy, even if the player expects you to be the monster?!

Didn't feel like the gameplay parts had much of an effect/meaning either. I like what you were going for, but sadly it didn't quite work for me.

Executioner by TheZiggy 2015-09-08T12:30:00

Nice concept, but as some others have mentioned more details on the cases would've been nice. Maybe more punishment options (less harsh) would've been useful too.

Homebound Spirits by Tovip 2015-09-10T11:43:00

The skeletons seem to get stuck quite often. The knockback on hit also led to some frustration. Cool aesthetic though.

Quarantine by BoskoSokolov 2015-08-31T17:41:00

Didn't really like it (judging by the comments I'm in the minority though). Didn't seem to matter who I possessed and even then the gameplay was just running in a straight line. The start was really slow too, took a lot of rounds for it to start getting to the point where I could actually afford something. Didn't pay attention to the signs, maybe I was supposed to make it out of the building or something, I just chose randomly. Got all the upgrades even though it reseted my progress at one point (maybe because I kept pressing D?).

A Heart between Parts by LeafThief 2015-08-31T18:20:00

My only complaint is the thing @Sunflower already mentioned: for example clicking the slippers didn't do anything, which was a tad confusing. Oh, and of course it could've been a tad longer ^^.

Superb game, really liked the aesthetic and the writing. My favorite lines were the ones when clicking the... books and potions(?) shelf in the storage room - that dramatic pause was just perfect!

Player Rush by Hot Box Games 2015-09-10T10:05:00

Tried both versions. Thought that it would be easier to get a good ranking in the highscores with the improvements of the post jam version, but seems that you restricted them to the original version only. Good call.

Looks and sounds neat, but the gameplay was a bit monotonous. Judging by the post jam version you have a vision on how to make it better though.

Grave by uheartbeast 2015-09-08T11:44:00

Got to 48 kills or something, sometimes luck just isn't on your side and the enemies swarm you on both sides of the giant. Have to agree with the people who suggested moving the attack button to the keyboard, didn't really feel right having FPS control setup in a sidescrolling game where the mouse position isn't even used. While the gameplay was nice and methodical (got a Dark Souls vibe from this), I would've preferred if it had just a bit more depth with maybe a few different attacks per mob. Wouldn't have minded if the same applied to the player. Well, that would've meant a lot more animating work, so it's understandable to not have those things. Nice aesthetic and pretty solid gameplay, good job.

The 74% scientifically inaccurate cheese fabrication process by SiMouth 2015-09-09T20:26:00

Didn't realize I could move the shelf containing the cheese cubes until playing to that point three times. I can't believe I'm bad at a game that is this simple :P.

Nice little game/experience. Definitely a nice change of pace.

I'm The Goddamn Devil by DDD Wares 2015-08-27T13:43:00

Pretty hard to hit people and even tell if they were already dead or not. Also the comments upon death didn't really seem to fit the game, but maybe that's just me. Had a similar idea, but ended up making something completely different. Your execution is better than mine would've been though so good job.

Otherworldly Stars by Sam Twidale 2015-09-09T19:18:00

Can't really say anything that hasn't already been said. It looked good and the narrative was interesting, too bad it wasn't a complete package. Nice compo entry though.

HOMUNCULUS by headchant 2015-08-26T17:11:00

The obscure gameplay really added to the mood of the game. Would've loved to play more but ran into the problem mentioned by @NikinCZ.

My only complaint is that once you figure out the mechanics it gets too easy. Just wait for enough triangles until you can kill the enemy in one turn. Maybe using triangles and "spells" should also count as an action, or at least part of an action?

Solid entry though, good job!

GROWL by Ulydev 2015-08-27T15:21:00

Even after maybe 20 rounds I have no idea how to play this. I can't see the logic behind the "notes" disappearing and it's driving me nuts. I have no idea how I should be spinning, but by some random change I still got to 20 seconds. Watched the gameplay video but that didn't really explain it either.

The Devil's Daughter by SinclairStrange 2015-08-27T13:27:00

Felt really solid and complete all around. The map with the key was an interesting design and the other maps were also pretty different from each other so it didn't get too stale despite the basic run & gun gameplay. Humor and aesthetic was the best part for me.

Like some people have already mentioned some graphics were hard to see. Also the final boss could've been more interesting / harder in my opinion. Had some problems with jumping away from a wall too, but nothing too major. I would've also preferred it if the weapon pickups were static instead of random. Maybe there could've even been hidhden areas (like the area in one of the maps near the start with a weapon box in it and jump-blocks in the ceiling, didn't figure out how to get there) which would've contained some easter eggs or the best weapons in the game. But even as it was, it was really impressive for 72 hours.

Steal Alive by Pampattitude 2015-09-08T12:02:00

Got to 3350 points or something by fixing my sight at the right edge of the screen and hitting up and space the moment I saw a human figure approaching. At least for me the hit windup was a tad too long as I usually swung too late, combined with jumping over the enemies it worked pretty nicely though. The problem with this strategy however was that sometimes the enemies spawned so close to each other that you would've been only able to deal with them by jumping over one of them and hitting the other, but that was too complex for me.

Can't play more, since the game made my head ache. Maybe it's because of the low contrals between the characters and the environment, I don't really know.

It's a nifty entry with some big flaws that at least for me make it unplayeble.

Monster can-can by nassi 2015-08-27T14:24:00

@zenmumbler: That's just a random kid trying to grab the Monster can, which you play as. I guess it's my fault for making the kid green. I thought kids were green, but I must've been wrong. Maybe it was cabbage that was screen...

Thanks for the comments everyone! It's true that I should be proud of actually making something, but I just feel like I let myself down with this entry, since I'm capable of much more.

Moon Witch by Brightstar 2015-09-03T09:49:00

Tried both versions, although I could've done with standalone exes instead of installers. The jam version was indeed pretty barebones but the post jam version already expanded the game pretty nicely. I pretty much agree with @Jezzamon here.

In the name of science! by pta2002 2015-08-31T17:51:00

The animations looked nice, but that's about it sadly. As already mentioned people were spawning inside walls and glitching all around the map. Also it was really hard to enter a corridor with a height/width of one tile.

Unknown by Florent Juch 2015-09-09T19:58:00

"You cannot pass. I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. You cannot pass. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udûn. Go back to the Shadow! You cannot pass."

Neat little "not-so-infinite scroller" with some minor bugs. Unlocked all of the songs, that was a cool addition! Found it pretty silly that Balrog would just disintegrate from a small batch of fire.

Fade by CreamyBacon1 2015-08-26T18:13:00

Neat level design and it has a lot more content than I expected. This is also the best victory message I've seen so far:

Super Snack Time! by adsilcott 2015-08-27T14:21:00

2990! Managed that by just spamming A+S(+M) and then trying to catch any Mario left with D. The nice thing about spamming M is that the Marios begin to fall over a lot, making it much easier. Felt a tad too luck based, but a nice simple game nonetheless!

Youkai by Nibble Bits Studio 2015-08-27T13:56:00

238. After 100 points you can be in the Fury mode almost constantly and the game really gets going :P. I felt really cool dashing and slicing everything that moves and the graphics really fit the style of the game. My only gripe is that sometimes the enemies spawn too near to you and since they don't need to move they are very hard to see.

Pirate RPG by Ershany 2015-08-27T17:00:00

Started the boss fight at level 6 and finished as a level 8 pirate, couldn't have done it without the heal provided by leveling up ^^. Walking around was pretty slow but still bearable because the distances weren't that great. Probably didn't experience all of it, because I don't know what you mean by shooting the boss for instance. The aesthetic is pretty basic, but at least it's not ugly.

Monster Arena by MoogleSensei 2015-09-09T20:51:00

Ha, similar interpretation of the theme and also the same framework of choice! Your game wins on the gameplay side but my game definitely has nicer looking bubble spray :P. Oh, and the audio in your game was a blast.

The Most Boring Game Ever by Romixal 2015-09-08T11:15:00

While not The Most Boring Game Ever, I could've used at least a bit of a challenge. Some background music would've also complimented the silly SFXs nicely. It's a solid package all in all.

The Sickening by michael.meadows 2015-08-31T19:14:00

I felt like I was fighting against the controls too much. I think it might've been manageable if the player didn't have to have a certain velocity to infect the cells that were nearly the same size. Gave up at the map where the intro text finally disappeared.

Monstrous Bosses by Drauthius 2015-09-08T11:00:00

Nice concept. Would've been cool to have a bit more feedback and polish on the state changes of the employees. Managed to get to 330-something points on my second try, still a long way to reach the top of the leaderboard.

Roadkill by Pizzamakesgames 2015-08-26T17:30:00

Got a score of 8040 on my second run due to awesome luck with the carpet bomb spawn patterns. Judging by two runs it feels a tad RNG heavy, which is really my only gripe with the game. Now that I think about it would've been cool to skip the "intro" on subsequent runs as it took quite a while. The aesthetic was lovely and the gameplay, while simple, felt very fitting.

Gorgezilla by Jelinib 2015-08-27T19:01:00

Interesting control scheme in a tried and true rampage game. Eating the tanks is totally pointless though, which could be seen as a design flaw. I'm a total sucker for games with highscores though and seeing as how a simple decision of just letting a tank shoot you will actually BOOST your score made it actually more interesting on some level. The silly aesthetic is a nice contrast to the rather gorey gameplay.

The keys used, while logical are a bit unwieldy, I would've probably used left, up and right instead. There's plenty of content for a compo entry, but as it is it gets stale pretty fast. Random powerups and/or collectibles would've been a cool addition!

Humans! by Artsuom 2015-08-26T19:00:00

Killed all the humans, but seems like there isn't a proper ending. Maybe I'm just supposed to enjoy my spider empire :P. The AI spiderlings were pretty much useless, which was bit of a shame. Got into the castle by approaching the seam in the middle, which automatically turned me 90 degrees, after which I could turn into the other direction to enter the castle.

Movement was quite slippery, but I guess that at least in the castle this could be somewhat realistic spider behavior. Combat was pretty boring though.

Dead Girls In Space by Fenreliania 2015-09-09T19:39:00

Getting stuck in the walls was pretty annoying and I actually managed to run straight through one of the escape pods. The firefights weren't very satisfying either.

Went for 2 different endings, one where I "resurrected" myself, destroyed the ship and left and one where I just escaped as a ghost. Maybe I should've also tried just blowing the ship up with me inside it...

SPACE JUNK by pixelgriffin 2015-09-09T19:08:00

My 14 laser 2 turret warship of doom annihilated the hardcore mode. During my first game I tried to use the lasers as a special weapon of sorts and they were incredibly satisfying like that. In my second game I just kept spamming them which took a bit of the joy out of them.

Cool aesthetic and procedural generation all around. The gameplay portion was pretty simple, but it had a nice amount of variation in it so it didn't get stale.

Sword of the Abyss by Joel 2015-08-27T12:02:00

Pretty simple arcade style game, but the aesthetic is cool and the gameplay feels solid. Didn't offer much of a challenge, but that's okay for a LD game.

Lapin Valley by saucygames 2015-08-31T17:13:00

While the aesthetic has a certain charm to it the gameplay doesn't really feel good. When you start moving it suddenly jerks forward and like others mentioned there's really no feedback to any of the actions. The level design is also... interesting.

Me by jofra 2015-08-26T21:30:00

The gameplay, while lacking, was good enough for a short experience like this. The atmosphere and the aesthetic are the real driving force after all. Full marks for mood, good job!

Poopie the Flying Monster by Sadale 2015-08-26T16:31:00

The previous comments sum up my feelings quite fell. I lolled when I saw that police car just dart into the air but then again I also thought that it started a tad slow. Had a feeling it would be a short game so of course I still had to play until I beat the boss.

Kraken Babies by johnhattan 2015-08-26T19:24:00

Would've loved to play this against a friend. The AI (especially for Maurice) just didn't think far enough in advance to make it challenging. Looks good and plays pretty smoothly although it was somewhat annoying that mouse dragging stopped if your cursor left the window.

Solid entry, but the gameplay got a bit boring as is.

The Mammoth: A Cave Painting by inbetweengames 2015-09-08T12:59:00

Feels somewhat reminiscent of Shelter. Really loved the mood of the game and I'm not ashamed to admit that I got misty eyed at the end. I couldn't save any of my children no matter how hard I tried. Both the aesthetic and the gameplay work brilliantly to conjure a mood like no other.

The fun-category doesn't really do justice to this entry, but I enjoyed the experience so I guess it was... fun? Read the "So who's the Monster in The Mammoth anyway?"-post and in my opinion it's either that we are all monsters or that none of us are, it's just a matter of perspective.

All work and no play by wijnen 2015-08-28T12:57:00

Finally got around to playing this (I did promise to play the games of those who rated my game after all ;)). Gave up trying to run this on Windows, but luckily I already had all the needed dependancies on my Arch netbook. Pretty weird architecture especially considering that it's (at the moment) a single player game.

Wasn't a huge fan of the game. Controls didn't really feel good and the difficulty seemed very RNG based. Made it to Saturday on my third run, but gave up after that. The aesthetic was also pretty basic. Too bad I didn't get to experience the whole story. But hey, you achieved your goal, good job!

Kidnapped by Zsombor 2015-08-31T16:59:00

Didn't cover all of the possible branches but what I saw so far intrigued me. Took a few tries until I made it out of the place alive. I like how expressive the graphics are and the mood was just perfect even without any audio. Probably not what I'd call "fun" but definitely interesting. Really unique interpretation of the theme too.

Who's the Monster! by TeamCosmitronique 2015-09-08T12:17:00

Bah, only got 2 out of 5 :P. Neat aesthetic and an interesting gameplay concept. Fantastic work on your first LD entry!

Tentacle Rescue : Summer of Love by Casper 2015-09-09T21:00:00

Wait what, you weren't supposed to pull the starfishes when they lit red?! And here I thought I was winning...

Pretty simple but it has anime-art and lewd sound effects so of course I loved it.

Dude, Stop by Patomkin 2015-08-27T14:09:00

Cool idea, but I would've loved to see more interactions in each of the scenes. Considering the time you put into this though, the execution is pretty decent as is. Nice interpretation of the theme too :P.

GUILLOTINE by Ibai Aizpurua 2015-09-08T16:18:00

Nice aesthetic and the gameplay is pretty good too. Would've been great if the animations and thus the actions were faster and the hitbox of the player smaller though. Couldn't figure out what to do after the "chicken boss", wasn't able to jump anywhere in the room with 2 skeleton guys.

Magicka-Pop Girl by EVAsTeam 2015-08-27T18:14:00

The graphics are decent but the animations feel a bit glitchy at parts. Managed to get all of the forms available. Too bad there's no gameplay to speak of.

Blood, The Monster is You by mikethingsbetter 2015-09-10T11:12:00

Played trough it a few times to see most of the content. Somewhat disappointing that my choices didn't seem to matter all that much, but I guess it's no wonder since the setting only allows for a few rooms to be explored. The story, while short, was pretty interesting and in my opinion well written.

Monster fish by ThiefViolinist 2015-08-27T13:37:00

Interesting concept of playing a savior while people think you are a villain. The game feels too slow though and like @collaboration mentioned the fighting mechanic just doesn't feel satisfying because of the lack of response to being hit. Also sometimes it felt like I was dying for apparently no reason, not sure what was up with that.

YetiFree by michaelwvogel 2015-08-31T18:45:00

Was expecting a bit more than a reskin (and as the other comments mention a pretty bad at that).

Monstre de Coiffure by Patacorow 2015-09-10T11:28:00

Really polished and the mood is just spot on. Made me felt like a true beautician. The rounds lasted for a sufficient amount of time and there was a good bit of difficulty in there too. Good job!

Jörmungandr by placatedduck 2015-08-27T15:59:00

Wouldn't run on Pale Moon x64 (a Firefox port), was only able to hear the music. Worked just fine on Chrome though. Haven't seen a snake game quite like this before and the music was superb (have I heard it somewhere before?). Got to 63 on my first run, could've probably gotten further but my interest in the game was already ending at that point. On my second run I just tried to coil over myself as many times as possible and boy did that look interesting, albeit not very usefull :P.

You Have Been Found Guilty by Tommyno222 2015-09-08T11:26:00

Don't know if it was a glitch but the first level repeated for me when I killed everyone I saw. After that I played through all of the levels without killing anyone and the ending made me wonder, if this was actually the intended way of beating it? If so, good job incorporating a not-so-obvious choice into the game!

The aesthetic is nice and polished, but the gameplay a tad finicky especially if you're trying to kill the people. Cool entry, good job!

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Get Off, Cat! by josefnpat 2015-12-17T22:15:00

I felt pretty bad feeding the cat empty cans and shoes. Oh, and for making it explode of course. Could've added some depth by having the player have to figure out if the current object can be fed to the cat.

Silly tiny game, had a grin on my face the entire time.

KINAMI by SiENcE 2015-12-27T14:54:00

Ran this using LÖVE 0.10.0. Had to change the "button == "l"" comparisons in love.mousereleased to "button == 1" to get it to work.

Simple game. Too bad the ambient aesthetic is sometimes abruptly cut off by the countdown and misstakes etc. Don't know if I like or dislike the fact that the balls are spread out. Seems to make the sequence easier to remember.

OO: Totally BS!: Pizza Interrogation by avalonknight 2015-12-27T12:34:00

Silly and short. Could've been a bit more interactive.

Gardening Rabbit by lurils 2015-12-27T13:27:00

It feels like a Game & Watch game through and through. In both the positive and the negative connotations.

Subject Is Compliant, Subject Is Defiant by Christina Nordlander 2015-12-27T13:57:00

The ambiguity of the story is pretty interesting. Tried a few different paths to see how much pathing there really was and all of them felt believable.

The Temple of Horyuji by ZYXer 2015-12-27T14:22:00

Survived for five nights on my first try. Probably won't try again as each run takes quite a while. Looks good and progresses pretty well, even if the two button control scheme takes a bit of getting used to. Nice and (apart from audio) complete game.

bullet hell web game thingy (but really, it's a pretty ok game) by peyj 2015-12-17T22:33:00

Made it to just a bit over 70 seconds thanks to some easy patterns. As already mentioned the screenshake was way over the top and the random bullets pretty much impossible to dodge. Neat way of handling losing though.

BAD WORMS by Moosefly 2015-12-18T19:29:00

Had a chance to play with the dev :). He even made a new version testing the suggestions mentioned in the first post, which was a lot more fun as expected. Goes to show how important playtesting is.

In its current state it felt too much like a single player game, but having a smaller play area or some other incentive to keep the worms close to each other made it a lot more enjoyable. Also starts quite slow, maybe a minimum length for the worms would have been in order. The game felt pretty solid though and didn't have crashes or slowdowns, which is always nice. Kinda hard to comment on because it is quite basic in the end.

Here's some more generic feedback for your future entries:
- The colorscheme feels somewhat old, like its from the 80s or something.
- Pacing/feedback loop: Getting to the fun part required a while of grinding at the start of each game. On a smaller map the grinding would have surely also included some faceoffs, which would've made it more interesting. Also too much (emptiness for the most part) is shown at each time, making it harder to parse visually.
- The wall of text in the menu was a bit off-putting, but maybe that's just me being minimalistic. I think being concise in LD-games is generally a good thing though.

Wesh Grow by SamH 2015-12-27T19:17:00

Cool aesthetic! The controls took quite a lot of getting used to as they didn't behave quite how I expected them to behave. Would've been cool if there were more varying map like the one where you had to collect the pieces in certain order.

Zen Jen by fluidvolt 2015-12-17T22:06:00

Last exam of the year coming up tomorrow, seems like I picked a good entry to relax/procrastinate with! Liked the atmosphere, although the switch from zen to Jen was perhaps too sudden. I don't know if that was just because I was meditating badly.

Sea Cucumber Runner 2D by takemikazuchi545 2015-12-17T22:24:00

Barely made it to the second level after countless restarts. The stuttery movement and the jumping not feeling too good made it a tough sell although the art and the aesthetic in general was pretty solid. Also I feel like the mechanic makes the game somewhat trial-and-error based, since at least my reflexes aren't good enough to adapt to a given situation fast enough by shrinking myself.

Parse The Sky by dustyroom 2015-12-27T13:21:00

Really mellow and good fun for a while. Played the WebGL version with the soundtrack playing from soundcloud, don't know if this was the way it was intended to be experienced, but w/e, it worked :). Probably needs more gameplay of some kind to allow for longer playing sessions.

SUPER SCIENCE CORP by Hot Box Games 2015-12-27T11:04:00

On 64-bit Arch Linux the game window never opens as execution seems to stop after printing config-stuff (last line was "Importing game controller configs") to the console.

Duoregi by Miko 2016-01-02T18:23:00

Felt pretty linear, but I guess that's okay for a jam game. The art is nice, but the protagonist doesn't really stand. Silence diminishes the mood quite a bit.

Wanderer of the Frozen Wastes by nassi 2015-12-17T23:35:00

Thanks for the encouraging comments everyone! I know there ain't much by the way of gameplay, but I hope you all will get at least a few minutes of excitement and wonder out of it.

@Clavus: Didn't realize I could build the windows executable on Linux. Been putting it off while thinking that I'll make one the next time I boot into windows. Thanks for making me review the link ;).

Ookami to Koushinryou to Kane by Eikinel 2016-01-03T20:11:00

This should be a jam entry.

It had a nice mood, but only being able to follow one chart at a time was problematic since they changed so fast. Seconding the key bindings comment.

Grow and Match by johnnwfs 2015-12-27T19:32:00

The web version had some annoying slowdowns and the audio was unbearable. The mechanic itself is quite annoying too, as at least I had a lot of downtime due to missing the "target" regularly or not touching it for long enough or for too long.

Emergency Cleanup by dcRfj15 2015-12-27T11:13:00

Getting the same problem as @WebFreak001, but the error message is different for both versions.

Final:
Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: No line matching interface Clip supporting format PCM_SIGNED unknown sample rate, 16 bit, stereo, 4 bytes/frame, big-endian is supported.

Fixed:
Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: No line matching interface Clip supporting format PCM_SIGNED 44100.0 Hz, 16 bit, mono, 2 bytes/frame, little-endian is supported.

Both seem to be thrown from line 29 of Application.java like in @WebFreak001:s case.

Eldritch Trance by TheWzzard 2015-12-27T13:10:00

Didn't manage to summon them all, but it was still a nice experience. The aesthetic and the gameplay worked together incredibly well. Like some have already mentioned, the feedback could have been clearer.

zx by acotis 2015-12-27T10:55:00

Nice smooth transition between the menus and the actual gameplay. Aesthetic was quite simple, but it worked.

I also got to level 10 before giving up. The precision and speed required there felt demoralizing.

Alien Number Attack by miwuc 2015-12-27T15:46:00

I see through your clever ruse; you're trying to make me learn aren't you?! I guess I should take the chance though, seeings as I scored 60 points on my first try... Cool use of the two button controls and the difficulty ramped up perfectly too.

Micro Danmaku by makiki99 2015-12-17T22:58:00

That second pattern is quite something, even if you can dodge it by staying as close to middle as possible and slightly moving left and right after every few homing shots. Couldn't get over 15k points. Refreshing to restart was a bit tedious.

GURU by TomenLuca 2015-12-27T15:26:00

Losing all progress after being defeated by the third opponent made me ragequit. The game is already a bit repetitive as is, and making it more repetitive by forcing the player to redo earlier stages was annoying, especially so in a Ludum Dare game.

Nice aesthetic and lots of content though.

Perperuna - The Rainmaker by greeboCherry 2015-12-27T15:07:00

Didn't have any audio in the WebGL version and some parts of the screen were outside the window.

Would have been cool if the spirits coming from different heights had had more of an impact on the gameplay. Like others have mentioned, it was somewhat easy at the moment. I liked the animation of the shaman though.

I can. by Pitƶik4 2015-12-27T12:00:00

I too am a bit conflicted about the text speed, but other than that this was really good. I guess the storm/rain was quite loud, but that's how they tend to be in real life too...

LD37 — One room

One room away from success by Gulyasarni66 2016-12-15T21:25:00

Nice adventure puzzler. Probably wouldn't have guessed the SI+TOO one without you explaining it in the comment, but apart from that the difficulty was just about right. Graphics are simple but it looks quite good imo and the the music + SFX are good too. At some points running would've been useful, but the walking speed wasn't too bad. Some of the inputs in the number puzzles could've been a bit farther away from each other to prevent missclicks.

Light in the Dark by afinkyu_Pheaky 2016-12-15T16:58:00

A bit too buggy to be enjoyable, even if the mood is there.

Bugs I encountered: Flashlight pointing in a different direction than I was facing. Randomly respawning/teleporting to the place near the "stage" with the blue lights. Enemies walking through walls and not really reacting to the different tools the player was offered. The slow effect of blanket and sneak boots sometimes canceling each other out (or maybe it was more of a visual bug?).

The idea is decent and as already said the mood was nice. There was even a bit of humor thrown in the instructions but after quite a few deaths I just gave up, didn't feel like I was progressing, somewhat due to the bugs. Controls didn't bother me too much, since I played with my left hand on WASD and my right on FCB. The puzzles I saw were OK (the one where you have to click the buttons to light the 5 or 6 blue lights (or maybe you were supposed to shut them, since nothing happened after lighting them up :P) and the teleport-labyrinth (which was maybe a bit too hard due to monsters and the "switches" not always registering)). Couldn't figure out what to do with the large stage of blue lights though.

Pure Fire by ChromeOrange 2016-12-30T15:57:00

Looks good, but isn't much fun to play. Just by strafing up and down near the right edge of the play area I managed to get to wave 15 with a score of 3000 or something.

More enemy variety and maybe some powerups/other incentive to make the player move around more was desperately needed in addition to a catchy background tune. More twists could've been introduced into the gameplay by adding objectives or something, like having to purify the gravestones with the purify ability periodically to prevent them from spawning some really hard monsters.

Mirror by kamranwali 2016-12-15T17:32:00

Nice aesthetic and generally good gameplay. The fight with the thing was boring, but yeah, the deadlines are quite strict and I full well understand that oversights can and will happen. The monster wasn't quite to my taste either, maybe it lacked "bulk" or something, it didn't really feel threatening. On a 1280x1024 display the notepad wasn't fully visible though (programmed with 16:9 aspect ratio in mind?). The objectives were simple enough though, so not seeing them fully didn't hinder my experience all that much.

LudumDare OneRoom - Blackback Mountain by kptemre 2016-12-15T21:47:00

I haven't actually seen Brokeback Mountain, so perhaps a big part of the game is lost on me :(.

Some remarks:
- The bullets didn't seem to go quite where I aimed (even if I waited for the gun to remain to the horizontal position), maybe due to playing on 5:4 aspect ratio (1280x1024)
- Gun sounds were pretty grating
- Too easy to strafe around the horde while picking up the zombies on the outskirts of said horde
- Recoil sometimes made it seem like bullets were indeed passing through the zombies, maybe at close range they actually were passing through
- Graphics were decent, but sometimes the lighting would bug out and make the whole room a lot brighter than usual
- Cutscenes repeating felt a bit cheap
- The last two levels were great as they had enough zombies to really make the situation feel desperate

Still, it was fun for at least a single playthrough. Good job!

Smoke and Mirrors by SmokeNMirrors 2016-12-15T22:52:00

Interesting, but not quite interesting enough to make me aim for the second ending after completing it once.

Good balance of different gameplay styles (puzzle, moody "visual novel like" parts, and combat). The aesthetic and writing are both good too. I think the description of LISA on Steam also describes this game quite nicely (at least the ending I got): "The miserable journey of a broken man..."

Oh Dear, where are my keys? by clerg0 2016-12-15T19:33:00

What an ending! The gameplay might've needed just something more, maybe Magda should've also gotten her coat etc. before leaving. Also the controls left something to be desired, felt more like ice skating than guiding an elderly lady around.

The mood and aesthetic were lovely though. Great experience.

Oh Dear, where are my keys? by clerg0 2016-12-15T19:35:00

Of, forgot to mention: When running the game fullscreen at 1280x1024 resolution I couldn't see the whole instruction image, the sides were cut out. Probably due to the aspect ratio.

Defend One Room by Fib 2016-12-30T15:27:00

Got to wave 10 on my first try, but upon retrying only managed to make it to wave 6, perhaps due to being too aggressive with the amount of turrets and thus losing a lot of health.

Somewhat barebones as far as tower defense games go, but still decently fun. The graphics are a bit of a mismatch, but they get the job done. The transitions between scenes could've been a bit shorter in my opinion. Perhaps the most frustrating thing about this was the multitude of paths and the uncertainty that followed it.

Defend One Room by Fib 2017-01-03T11:49:00

@Fib Sorry for the delayed reply! My main problem was with the pixel sizes being inconsistent between the player structures and everything else. Sure it makes them easier to tell apart even if they are of similar color, but it just doesn't feel right to me.

Best of luck to you!

The 16th Bit by reheated 2016-12-16T13:12:00

Had to give up after spending way too much time on the puzzle that follows finding Skyrim as my head was starting to hurt a little. Bonus points for having a continue option so I could actually check the level where I got stuck after ragequitting.

I don't even know how many times I had to reset the puzzle after arriving at a paradoxal state after following what seemed to be valid logic. Had the same problem even on the level before this one, but finally managed to solve that one somehow. I don't even know why that is; usually I like these kinds of higher order logic puzzles (Sudoku, Hexcells, Picross etc.). Maybe something in this game just tricked my brain into seeing certainties when the move actually wasn't yet obvious thus derailing my chain of reasoning.

Graphics are decent and the audio is pretty good (narration is always fun to hear in LD entries), even though I had to stop listening to the music at some point because the violin was really getting on my nerves. The game finding/clue hunt portion of the game felt pretty weak/tacked on as it didn't last long enough (at least for me) compared to the actual puzzles. Mood was good and it certainly followed the theme. Solid entry, but sadly too hard for me, which somewhat diminished the fun factor.

Also thanks for the in-depth comment on my game and also for the name "Theseus and the Minotaur", I might actually be able to track down the game I used to play as a kid now ;).

Tempus Machina by Pickens Inc. 2016-12-16T14:09:00

As the other comments have already mentioned: ramp up the difficulty a bit faster and maybe add some more variety, perhaps in the form of having to balance the state of the different rooms etc. and you're golden!

Smooth animation, good music and sfx and the core gameplay is pretty fun and fast. Leaderboards are always a big plus for me, but this time I gave up after getting 9200 points on my second try as the slow beginning of the game felt like too much of a chore to play through again.

Looking For Heals by JayProg 2016-12-15T19:07:00

I usually main a healer, but haven't had many chances to do so after quitting WoW some years back so this was right up my alley! Beat it on my first try (sadly with one dwarf dead and resurrection on CD because it started to lag pretty badly near the end for some reason).

Loved the toolkit I had as the healer and also the fact that I wasn't just passively healing but could also position myself etc. Good aesthetic and even better gameplay, I really want more (I have "A Healer only Lives Twice" wishlisted on Steam, but still, there aren't too many "healing management" games around).

There's so much more to do with the idea: different classes (both for the healer and the other party), different encounters, different loot..! Maybe you could even make it so that some people could play as DPS and some as tanks without turning it into a fully fledged MMO ;). Would be a fun CO-OP game. Not that those ideas are feasible for a Ludum Dare entry, but the potential is there if you decide to keep working on this!

Also was somewhat disappointed that the chest didn't open in the end, revealing the epic loot that was talked about in the ending text.

Cubestrophobia by mipo 2016-12-15T20:14:00

Cool concept, graphically reminiscent of Q.U.B.E in my opinion. Couldn't make it past the level with five green blocks, going back one level upon death was pretty harsh in my opinion.

Double jump was useful, but I think the gravity could've been even lower. A lot of time was spent waiting for the cubes to move low enough for me to attempt to grab them. Wall-jumping might've also worked.

Solid jam game though, keep up the good work!

Neat (Ludum Dare 37) by HawkSandwich 2016-12-15T18:43:00

Interesting implementation of a memory game, although I would've preferred if it was a bit less based on color. Worst score I got was 41% (F) I think in some of the early levels, but apart from that I was constantly over the 90% mark which I found hard to believe (my mnemonic for example in one of the levels was: "blue, green, green, red, black, toaster, green, red" and I still got a good score!).

I absolutely LOVED the Psychonauts-esque visuals and the general feel of the game and the gameplay was also plenty juicy, good job!

Forest Rivalry by Windmill Games 2016-12-15T16:30:00

Only played against the bot so far, I might come back and redo my rating if I manage to play someone to play with.

Moving up and down in the menus was somewhat clunky with the gamepad, but other than that the game worked nicely with a PS3 controller using xboxdrv on my little Linux netbook. The AI provided a decent opponent and felt fair to play against. Aesthetics were top notch and the game was quite polished for a Ludum Dare entry. Maybe there could be some settings that the player(s) could choose before beginning a game, for example the number of rounds and the movement speed of the characters (perhaps a little too slow by default?). Missclicked on the two player option at the start and thought that a way to return to the menu from the game would've been a nice addition.

Of course the game could've been expanded (powerups etc.), but I'd say it's a solid game all around.

Dreadroom by nassi 2016-12-15T18:27:00

@Windmill Games: Thanks for the detailed and comprehensive comment :).
@Skruffye, Swingularity: I also felt that the controls left a lot to be desired, but couldn't think of a more intuitive control scheme which only involves the keyboard. It's a shame, but it'll have to do.
@kamranwali: Thanks!

Salvage Star by Hempuli 2016-12-15T22:26:00

The graphics (especially the robot) felt quite Patapon-esque which is nice and the Shadow of the Colossus style gameplay was a good premise. But the second phase was so freaking hard I gave up after maybe five minutes of being knocked around.

Some things that make the difficulty feel annoying in my opinion:
- Loss of control when the character gets knocked around is too long compared to the speed of the game
- Air control isn't tight enough
- Had some trouble climbing then jumping and instantly climbing again, which made scaling the robot quite hard. Maybe it was just my clumsy fingers, but it just didn't feel right to me
- Transitioning into climbing from a bike jump was also super hard

Also saw some weird stuff after getting knocked super high in the sky. Overall I might've enjoyed the biking part a bit more than the actual game (pretended I was playing Excitebike) due to the difficulty.

Dimension Shift by crazya 2016-12-30T15:44:00

I agree with @DDRKirby(ISQ), especially concerning the use of the shift key.

It was a neat experience both aesthetically and gameplay-wise albeit in the beginning I got a feeling that it was going to just be a tech demo or a sandbox. You managed to make it more "gamey" with those last levels and especially with the ending, good job! Nice use of the theme too.

Echo Chamber by masterkrepta 2016-12-15T22:07:00

I like the idea (finally a chance to replay the events of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3ea3FKmEi4 !) but the implementation is just too buggy.

The reflections don't really work as one would expect and just staying in a corner (or just walking out of the screen) are too effective. Maybe there should be pickups to incentivize walking around the map. The side walls are also outside the screen boundaries on a 1280x1024 display, probably due to the aspect ratio.

Needs a lot of work, but the premise is decent.

Hitlers Cactus or only you can stop Trump by stupidmindlessf 2016-12-15T23:14:00

Couldn't quite solve it myself after maybe five playtroughs, but I feel like removing the limit of one visit/time would diminish the puzzlyness(?) of the game. Maybe it would've been a nice addition, as an easy mode or something. Would've probably played for longer had it had a mode like that.

Nice idea and an excellent use of the theme. Aesthetic was also good, especially the time-warp shader was a nice surprise. I feel a lot of the humor sadly lies in the different outcomes I didn't manage to achieve.

Square Roots by Weeping Rupee 2016-12-15T21:02:00

If possible, you should probably pack the game as a standalone executable instead of an installer. Less steps to deter a potential player.

Took a few tries until I grasped all of the mechanics in the game and even then I doomed myself a few times in an effort to build the perfect passageways for the roots. In the end I'd have to say it was still easier than my plant growing entry for LD28 (http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-28/?action=preview&uid=25343) ;). Much more fun though, here the difficulty didn't feel quite that frustrating but instead drove me to try harder.

Lovely aesthetic and the feeling of being isolated in space was real. Especially the music worked wonders for me! The chatty yandere AI was a nice touch both to the story and the mood, even if its/her tips started to become annoying after a hefty number of restarts. Glad I played it through though. Only real bug I encountered was that some pieces could be placed on the edges so that they poked through the monitor, which probably wasn't intended and made the game somewhat easier. A solid game and a good fit for a Ludum Dare in both mechanics and length.

I was going to say that knowing the next piece would be helpful, but then I looked at the screenshots (the radar area)... And then I opened the game to recheck and it was indeed missing. Maybe it was in there at one point but was scrapped? Also I was fairly certain the background was scrolling vertically during one game but now that I checked again it seems to be scrolling horizontally. This game is messing with me :P.

Also a big thank you for your in-depth comment on my entry. I totally agree with the negatives you mentioned and am somewhat ashamed of my inability to come up with better solutions to the problems mentioned. And yes, I have watched some Extra Credits episodes, but if you see a reference there it certainly isn't intentional. Nicely spotted though!

Bat Cave by schizoid2k 2016-12-15T19:56:00

Most of what needs to be said has already been said: a neat reimagining of a great, if simple, concept.

My main gripes with the game were:
- Death SFX for the bats was quite sharp
- Sometimes there would be two bats on top of each other
- The stalactite drops were hard to hit
- Died a few times due to unknown reasons (I didn't see anything hitting me)
- The bombs are too powerful and made me not care for the stalactites
- Jumping was a bit awkward (linear movement)
- Bats were indeed too fast to reliably hit
- On a 1280x1024 monitor in fullscreen I spawned outside the visible area

Also noticed a bug: After picking up the bullet power-up I could just keep the control key pressed and keep rapid firing even after ten seconds (or maybe they were long seconds, I died shortly after discovering this glitch, but I think I survived for more than ten seconds with it).

The IT Room by Bumblepie 2016-12-15T17:09:00

84 points on my second try. Doesn't overstay it's welcome in my opinion, as the rounds themselves are pretty short. Felt quite smooth to play too, as in position wasn't super strict etc.

I liked the setting and even though the gameplay was simple I didn't find it boring for such a short game. Some player animation and overall audio would've been nice, but might be too much to ask if you were just learning OpenGL with this.

Other by Skruffye 2016-12-15T18:22:00

Seems like Z, Space and Enter all work for interaction, you should unify that among the Ludum Dare and itch.io pages.

Interesting story, although the main music theme was perhaps a bit too cheery considering the setting. Would've loved something more concrete as to what Makoto's fate really was, but seeing how my choices affected the villagers was also very nice. I even got a bit emotional there. At one point I thought that maybe the game would have the ending the player least expects: if their choices are hopeful Makoto's fate is something dark and if the player is a prick to everyone it turns out the Rite is something worth pursuing. I guess that's just my love for twist endings talking!

Had a hard time finding the First Tree, maybe due to the definition of the forest in the west being somewhat unclear. Other than that it was smooth sailing and over quite fast. Aesthetic was good and the mood was (apart from the main theme) fitting.
