Cool idea, but the camera kinda restricted the visibility of a few things, and I got stuck in a few places. Great job though! The animations and sound effects are great.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD32 → Gunception

This. . . I dunno. This was fun. Weird in concept, and well executed. I enjoyed it!
Really like the pixel art you got going here. The gun mechanic was pretty funny
Thanks for the positivity!
@GravityScore parts of the game are cut off on Ludum Dare due to iframe restrictions, did you try going to full-screen?
Nice weird idea ! The music loop was maybe too short and eventually annoying... But the gun is a great gun.
Awesome concept. A bit of a challenge on a track pad - but I would play more :)
I played through it and used the weapon as a kind of mine because they always point to the sky on landing ;D If you make a post-compo, I recommend increasing the amount of enemies in the first waves so that the difficulty ramps up a bit faster, but that is personal taste. Nice intro screen!
(I answered you on my game's page)
Thanks for the advice Steven Colling! I do plan on making a post compo and publishing it to my site. Suggestions are appreciated.
Decent graphics, but the gameplay was somewhat repetitive with planting the guns and baiting the enemies into them. At least with the machine gun you could fight the enemies somewhat fairly :P.
I'm willing to bet that this isn't the last "guns shooting guns" game I'll play this Ludum Dare, but it is the first! Actually it's the first game I've ever played that lets me do that.
And to reply to your comment on my game: What is the model of your gamepad? You could also try restarting the game :P. Don't really have any specific advice, since this was my first time using the gamepad functionality and I couldn't test it very thoroughly.
@nassi
Thanks for the feedback! I tried to encourage shooting the gun in mid air as you get 10 points per second when the gun is in the air.
To your game: I have a wireless Thrustmaster Ferrari Limited Edition gamepad, and it's being recognized by my computer but not by the game. I tried restarting the game several times.
A funny idea with the gun shooting guns, took me a second to understand it though.
What was a bit annoying is that once you went down, you never really came up again. The "jumping shoes" only came once and even then it seemed impossible. Since the enemies could jump and climb walls it would've been interesting if there was more movement.
Very nice! But we need to go deeper :)
@eXpl0it3r
Have you tried using the guns to lift you up. Hold the jump key and shoot at your feet to skyrocket.
I had a blast using the rocket jump to wall jump! I was able to cross the map easily that way. Having the enemies being able to hop or climb up to where I had scaled was humbling, though. I think adding an alert that appears when an upgrade or health is falling off screen. Some of the powerups/health fell into the ground before I could get to it.
@RedSorrel
Wow that's exactly what I want my players to experience! Thanks for the review.
The powerups have a higher chance of spawning when you have less health and will only spawn on the your view's X values.
Good concept.
Well done! The game is missing some sort of story or introduction, imho. Decent but cool audio.
This idea is cool! Really enjoyed baking big booms :D Solid engine, nice graphs, well done!
Nice game, the idea is pretty fun.
Best title I have ever seen. Too bad the sound didn't work me and I got stuck at the bottom of the level:(
Pretty neat concept though.
Strange game and creepy monsters, but I enjoyed although I got killed at the last stage. Good job
Good graphics and audio. Camera felt a little too close sometimes. Gameplay felt a bit like minelaying was too effective to bother to try and make use of the rotating and then shooting mechanic, which was a more interesting and difficult concept. Great execution though.
Thanks for the plays and comments!
@snesgaard
that means a lot, thanks. Do you know how you got stuck?
@monkeedude1212
I'm thinking maybe if you plant a gun you will do less damage? So far, the incentive to do it mid-air is points and self challenge. I will definitely change up the camera now.
OMG YOU PUTTED GUNS INSIDE GUNS THAT FIRE GUNS!
You god
Getting a timeout atm, chillhammer.com also seems to be down.
Interesting idea. The camera is a bit tricky to control but it's still pleasant to play. Not bad for a game made only in a couple of days ^^.
For everyone saying the camera is hard to control, does that include with full screen? It is significantly smaller on the frame ludum dare provides.
Thanks again guys.
I Realyl liek this! Solid mechanic and good implementation. Also as a compo entry this is very polished. Great work!
I liked it!
I got stuck in the pit at the right of the level and didn't know how to get out of there lol.
The graphics are great! Congrats! Keep it on!
Wow, this is nice, really liked firing a gun that can then fire at the enemies. However, I'm going to have nightmares with the two legged mushroom enemy. That was creepy :P. Would love to have an exploration element to go through a larger area and, perhaps, fight a boss. But the main idea is there, and it's pretty cool.
ah, you have to rocket jump- I'll make it easier to do so in the future, but in the compo version, you just need to hold up and shoot at your feet
Very interesting idea, I notice you're looking at doing a post-compo version, so I will watch this space with interest!
Challenging on a trackpad, but interesting mechanic; they're like directed mines.
The music sounds great the first time -- as other's mentioned, the loop is short and noticeable, but it's a great start.
I ended up in the pit before I was supposed to, I think, (judging by the pictures) and could neither escape nor die. Maybe a door that opens when it's time?
Nice graphics and interesting concept.
I liked the graphics, but it was confusing as to how to use the gun until I read the description.
haha, Cool concept, wish the parody could have gone further with the audio with the token inception gong sfx. The rocket jumping is kind of unintuitive but required if you get caught in that corner of the map.
