LD33 — You are the Monster

Regnum Dracones by alyphen 2015-08-24T10:02:00

A good attempt, and getting a multiplayer game with a hosted server is no small task, but the game ultimately doesn't have much to it. I couldn't see a way to collect resources, and unless I'm missing something there were only two items in the shop; walls and flags. Clicking on the wall and then where I wanted it each time proved frustrating, the ability to click and drag or at least keep the shop item selected would have made things much nicer.

The Much Loved Monster by IndigoWolf 2015-08-24T08:42:00

The writing wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly engaging either. Between the relatively limited number of paths that looped and the lack of any real mechanics other than "doing bad things and being a bad person", the game as a whole was rather uninteresting.

Takodemon by Split82 2015-08-25T10:13:00

I can appreciate the idea, but unfortunately the execution was a bit lacking. The monster doesn't really inflate enough to push off the ground enough to turn itself, so just moving becomes an agonising chore. The keys while thematic, have little relation to each other and ultimately make things harder than they need to be. Beautiful graphics and great music, but in the end it was more frustrating than fun.

Monster Living in A Cave Terrorizes Nearby Village! by Unentokku 2015-09-05T12:22:00

Surprisingly fun and with a nice battle system. I love the mechanic of having to balance fighting with chasing and not dying. Could have used some kind of numerical representation of health, since it was pretty difficult to tell what kind of damage I was actually doing or how much numbers like "10" matter. Would also have been nice to have some kind of heal ability, since defending was mostly about serious chance, being not only a chance the enemy would even attack, but also at which point in the sequence it is.

Primary objective by Aurel Bílý 2015-08-24T12:09:00

Oh my goodness, this is amazing! Incredible art, interesting story and characters in such a short game, and really nice music and sound! I'm flat out amazed and impressed!

Grand Theme Auto by tsjost 2015-08-24T13:13:00

Oh how I watched you struggle, but you got something out there in the end! Collisions are a bit buggy as you know, and the hitboxes are larger than they seem. Could do with some kind of opposition so you have the potential to lose - maybe have PoV driving around upvoting all your downvoted themes? :P

You must kill the slime monster by martijn 2015-08-24T09:45:00

Not a particularly original idea, but executed well and done with some interesting mechanics. I love the slime and blood effects, and some of the puzzles were really well made, especially the one with the hearts on the floor and spikes on the roof!

Dungeons and Heroes by thx4nothing 2015-08-24T11:06:00

I do like the idea of playing as a slime and fighting adventurers, but the game seemed a bit obtuse and there was some information lacking. I thought I collected a regular item and tried to buy food, but I don't think it let me - or perhaps it did, but I didn't know either way.

A Series Of Totally Legit Events by Slashee the Cow 2015-08-24T10:58:00

An interesting, rather well-written read, with some amusing humour and interesting choices, but it felt a bit pointless after I got the movie ending. It seemed like it was just a short story about a poor student who slept too much and embarassed himself at a theater.

Gem Giant by LewisChaplin 2015-08-24T09:37:00

Wow, that was a really interesting take! It was pretty fun trying to frantically keep up with the houses, and realising I'd never be able to while still in the wooden houses stage. The graphics were nice despite their simplicity, really reminded me of old PC games.

Monster Cube - MIQ by andreiichim 2015-08-25T12:08:00

It's simple, but it's disproportionately fun. The movement is a bit erratic and often awkward, but that really does add to it. It's just so satisfying to squish little green cubes.

Gelan's Quest by rnlf 2015-08-24T12:23:00

Relatively simple gameplay, nice graphical style, and a really impacting story with an important message. A bit too much writing with not enough gameplay, and some awkward phrasing, but great nonetheless.

Little monster's way back to home by BuddaKaeks 2015-08-24T09:28:00

Unfortunately doesn't seem to run - plays music, but only shows a black screen.

Writhe: The Thing from the Omega Sector by DragonXVI 2015-08-24T12:39:00

Absolutely amazing. Wonderfully designed levels, great slew of mechanics, awesome art complimented by some nice physics, and a fun boss battle at the end. Would love to see an improved version of this, perhaps with better movement physics and the ability to swing around walls when you grab onto them? Excellent job, the best game I've played so far!

Blood Moon by MagnesiumNinja 2015-09-05T12:11:00

I died 79 times trying to finish this before I finally managed, which is testament to its design. The mechanic is very interesting, and enough changes were made to the level design to give an interesting difficulty curve. The graphics were fitting and well made, and the audio was suitably subtle. Some of the challenges were a little tough, but I appreciate the forced learning in some aspects. There could have been a better explanation that leaping in shadow form doesn't have to hit a wall, because about 20 of my deaths were trying to get over that one sweeping spotlight on an outside wall.

Meeuw by TomBoogaart 2015-08-25T09:36:00

Just amazing. Could have done with a bit more gameplay, because unless I'm missing something you just have the one small map, your bike, and your fire breath. I picked up all the sticks (or I think I did) and nothing seemed to change, although I did ride the bike up the walls and got my feet stuck somewhere super high up, which made walking awkward. Seriously good silly fun though, I'll probably come back numerous times to relax and romp.

Billi The Monster by bogdanmaier49 2015-08-24T09:24:00

I can't seem to download this - the rar file always seems to be empty. Seems to be on my end only, but it's what's happening.

Not Cookiemonster by OadT 2015-08-24T11:13:00

I really love the googly eyes on the cookie monster costume, and the graphics in general. Ducking was just hilarious. The challenge was pretty tough, and took me a few tries, but the quick restart was really good for preventing frustration. Just sad that it was so short.

Crazy Monster Drivers by shimage 2015-08-24T11:44:00

Interesting ideas, not bad art, and some nice audio. The bike doesn't seem to work too well though and the frog is nearly impossible to make jump at full strength without diving head-first into the water.

Kaiju A-Go-Go by GeeItSomeLaldy 2015-08-24T09:02:00

At first I found the controls a bit clunky, but after reaching the boss and dying, then reading the description and realising there is a crouch, they make a lot more sense. I especially like the different breath attack when crouched. Despite being simple, the gameplay was fun and charming, and the art wasn't too bad (well, let's be honest, that kaiju is delightfully bad, but I still love him <3).

Monster by Gaga 2015-08-24T08:55:00

I can appreciate implicit storytelling, but there were little to no details that indicated what was going on in the story. I was also severely disappointed by the sheer number of invisible walls when a more tightly packed and well organised town would have been much more interesting to look at and around. Despite their simplicity, I do like the graphics, but some more tweaking to their shaders and a bit nicer work on the terrain would have done wonders.

A Quiet Night on the Moon by Maxr00 2015-08-24T08:27:00

Nice art and sound, and the unique controls were an interesting experiment, but unfortunately they took away too much control without adding enough interesting gameplay. It's very common to end up floating through the air for 10 seconds, unable to avoid enemy bullets that can shoot through the terrain, and it makes the jump button feel a bit useless, or at least fidgety. It might have been better if holding down A or D made you jump higher/further.

Alieanum by Kaev 2015-08-24T09:12:00

Despite its simplicity, the game was surprisingly fun! Could have done with some music or slightly varied sound effects, but what was there was very retro, and satisfying. The graphics were interesting and good enough to not hinder the game, but could have been a bit nicer. Overall, I really like this one!

Space Invadees by lanestp 2015-08-27T09:02:00

Interesting take on reversing space invaders, but it was often more frustrating than fun. The humour was nice but its pacing was a bit off sometimes. Great graphics though, nice adaptation of the old graphics into 3D.

Ladybirds massacre by celisoft 2015-08-24T10:26:00

A very interesting idea, but very fidgety and hard to play. It's frustrating how fast the bait turns, and it's unintuitive that the small white end is the back of the bait. Ultimately it was more frustrating than entertaining.

Soul Hunter by Vaiaphraim 2015-08-31T12:08:00

It seemed like a good idea, but my cravings got a bit too low in combat and I could do nothing but try and devour souls, which made me unable to kill anything to devour its soul. I couldn't eat the chocolate or drink a potion or soul essence, so that wouldn't fix it either.

Motherflipin' T-Rex! by mantis 2015-08-26T11:01:00

Absolutely great! It's super fun to just romp around, the sound is satisfying (love the beeps!) and the graphics are charming. It's just really fun!
