LD21 — Escape

Prelude of the Chambered by Notch 2011-08-23T08:18:00

@mcc Don't know about running backwards, but I had the same flickering problem when running it in a browser. So in the end I just downloaded it (by clicking "Windows" instead of "Web") and ran it from the command line. To run it:
java -cp PoC.jar com.mojang.escape.EscapeComponent

LD28 — You Only Get One

ONE SHIP by glennbjr 2013-12-16T22:34:00

Nice little shooter, maybe missing a bit of innovation (especially regarding the theme). But I liked the mechanics.

Sixteen in One by zatyka 2013-12-20T15:38:00

There are some similarities with "There is Only One Level", but it's still very inventive and there's a very impressive number of levels for such a short time. Congrats!

At The Count Of 3, Baby, I Hope I Disappear by Joker 2013-12-20T19:54:00

I think I get it. Maybe. At least I got to the end.

Constrained by Split82 2013-12-20T19:42:00

Very clever use of the theme, and impressive for 3 hours! Would love to see more content.

SUPERBLADE by folmerkelly 2013-12-20T20:00:00

Impressively polished game!
If we're all ninjas, why can they walk on spikes and I can't? :(

You Only Get One Shot by JacksGamesSucks 2014-01-05T11:48:00

It always feels great to finish something so good job on that!
The concept looks interesting and fits in the theme. The gameplay itself it kind of broken because you can't really tell what you're going to do or what you just did when you click. The number of cameras I destroy feels a bit random. I'm sure you could fix that with more time.

One minute to see the world by pinion 2013-12-17T23:24:00

You should've mentioned this was windows only :(

Title Goes Here by YourLocalFax 2013-12-20T00:34:00

It's obviously only a beginning but I enjoyed this. I would love to see it finished.

Fill-In Fantasy by frogcheese 2013-12-20T18:39:00

Cute and pretty funny too :)
The gameplay would need more work to turn this into a real game.

One Wing by theholychicken 2013-12-19T20:48:00

This looks so cute and original, it's one of those games I really wish I could play, but I don't have any windows machine :(

White-Hat-Guy by Gaspard_ 2013-12-17T22:03:00

It's not working for me :(

RGB - So sweet your television will break by RevelBase 2014-01-05T11:41:00

Nice concept and cute graphics. I found the jumping a bit frustrating but that could be easily tuned.

The web version didn't fit on my 13" laptop screen and there's no scrollbar so I hack to change the css to be able to play :/

One Chance: The Choice Based Adventure Game! by DRAGONMASTER412 2013-12-18T22:52:00

Yogo's Adventure by OhFiddleDiddle 2013-12-18T19:53:00

The signs got me every time. Great job!

SPELLBREAKER by jdpalmer 2013-12-18T21:02:00

Man I hadn't played mastermind in ages. Congrats, the games feels very polished. The music also got annoying really quick though.

A Rose in the Rain by Brian Mayberry 2013-12-17T21:46:00

When it ended it made me say "ohhh" aloud. So sad but I love it. Awesome treatment of the theme.

A Precious Arrow by Benjamin 2014-01-05T12:03:00

Love the old-school art an music! It's beautifully animated too.

A bit too demanding for my short attention span, but a lot of people like hard games too. I'm a wimp and I didn't finish it though. I killed the blue thing on the far right, but nothing happened. Then I figured I was supposed to go in the hole and gave up after being killed by the second set of mushroom guys a couple of times.
It's too bad since judging by the screenshot, I didn't see much of the game at all.

Only one life by oojava 2013-12-19T21:16:00

Really cute and fun! Love the sound effects.

Mama is Sick by JaymeeMak 2013-12-19T21:56:00

Beautiful music, nice graphics, and great backstory. Bug god this game is depressing :(

Lumen by Nelien 2013-12-18T21:27:00

Neat concept that fits very well in the theme, and perfect execution. The graphics are beautiful and there's great attention to detail. There's even some recoil when you throw the light (yay physics!). The sound effects really make you feel like you're underwater.
In terms of gameplay, I found it a bit too frustrating though.

Dungeoneer by Dearon 2013-12-18T21:50:00

I really enjoyed this game once I got the hang of it (ALWAYS USE PROBES), but it's frustrating how much you have to rely on luck (NO MORE PROBES? WELL TOO BAD, YOU'RE ALREADY DEAD).

System Control by conormn 2013-12-18T08:08:00

Very polished, doesn't feel at all like a game that was made in 48 hours. Also fun.

Buy the World by Ymir 2013-12-16T22:28:00

Cute game. I expected it to be a simple cookie-clicker like, but it's actually a lot more challenging. Although maybe a bit too much? I gave up after about 5 tries.
Great graphics!

You Only Get One Wish by Calciumtrice 2013-12-17T21:08:00

Brilliant! I just love the writing style.
Go mums!

My game is also about wishes but it puts you on the other side of the equation. Maybe check it out? :)

(PS: I found a typo. "Too cool four school")

You Only Get One Wish by Calciumtrice 2013-12-18T07:11:00

Ok, I wondered after posting this if it was intentional. Don't you hate it when people tell you that you made a mistake that was intentional?!
Anyway, congrats again.

OneWords by mckoss 2013-12-21T08:56:00

So simple yet so much fun :)

Touch by WhoaConstrictor 2013-12-16T22:41:00

Simply stunning.

CL1CK by Strangelander 2013-12-20T19:06:00

Such a simple premise, yet the brilliant level design is what makes it all.
I liked that you really have to think, but when you find the answer you can be sure it's the right one (most of the time).

I see people mentioning sound effects, but I couldn't hear anything (with Chrome 32 on OS X 10.8.5)

The Last Promise by Team-KwaKwa 2013-12-20T08:50:00

The screenshots look stunning! I really wish I could play, but I don't have any windows machine :(

One by bodsey 2013-12-18T00:17:00

Cute little game, great graphics.

Jump Chip by arkeus 2013-12-20T20:18:00

Impressive, very polished game, cute graphics, and most of all, clever game mechanics and level design. It even has some narration!

That one spot by madflame991 2013-12-18T21:12:00

I liked the concept and how the introduction text sets up the game.

Trick or Treat by LastResortGames 2013-12-19T21:04:00

Cute little game, I really like the idea.

You only get one chance to survive ! by dray 2013-12-19T22:33:00

Surprisingly fun for such a simple gameplay. The different characters are brilliant. My only complaint is that you can sometimes shoot your arrow out of the screen and then you're screwed.

WaterColor by fierysquirrel 2013-12-20T00:00:00

Inventive mechanics + solid level design = win
This is by far the most solid gameplay I've seen so far.
I liked that everything was intuitive enough not to require any explanation. You always get it after dying a couple of times.

H P Y by WBojangles 2013-12-18T22:07:00

I love this kind of completely random games, where you sort of understand what's going on, and you sort of don't, but that's kind of the point.
Well done.

One Wish by miwuc 2013-12-19T22:18:00

@theholychicken Thanks! You're close, the maximum you can get is 130. In that case you get a different message. There's a total of four different message (negative score, normal score, best score, no score).
I wanted to add some audio but I really didn't have time :/

@Snail_Man If you check the source of the page it's pretty obvious which ones have the most points ;)

Mad One by Tex Killer 2013-12-17T23:15:00

Looks like it could be really fun. Too bad you didn't have more time :)

You can become only one!!1 by multikorv 2013-12-20T00:16:00

Great concept! Too bad there aren't more levels (the level with 39 is the last one, right?)

Time Detective by mruno 2013-12-18T22:36:00

Fun little game. Started out really serious, then got all kind of weird but in an entertaining way.

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Jungle Noir by vinull 2014-04-28T19:56:00

That was awesome! Even if the gameplay is pretty limited, I loved the dialogues, music and voice acting. Good job team :)

Ripple Runner by DDRKirby(ISQ) 2014-05-06T20:24:00

The level of awesome is hard to describe. One of those games that you can't believe are compo. Loved the mechanics, the music, the changing colors, how you restart without skipping a beat after dying... And of course it's tons of fun to play. Great job!

SUNK by GeorgeBroussard 2014-05-01T08:49:00

Nice an simple, great atmosphere and lovely graphics. I love how all the text moves with the waves.

Lebesgue by myachin 2014-05-02T17:12:00

The surface looks amazing, you can really see it fly as you move.
Like a lot of people, I was very confused by the gameplay at the beginning. It's funny that the game as a tutorial for using the *arrow keys*, but nothing on what the hell is going on in this game. I also found the controls to be very confusing since they don't follow the isometric world. The trick of course is to hold two arrows at the same time. I found some symbols but I can't say I finished the game. Overall the game is impressive, the concept is interesting and the mood is great, but I didn't have enough fun playing it to try and find all the symbols. I'm very curious to know what happens when you do though.

Magnum by jsspiegel 2014-05-04T20:14:00

Lolwut. Not sure what I just played, but I do like me a good typing game. Too bad it's so short! Also it's hard to pay attention to the incredible transformation while looking at the letters.

Ad Astra by Cosmologicon 2014-04-28T20:46:00

Very impressive for 48 hours! The gameplay has much more to it than you'd think at the beginning and the game seems quite long. The graphics are simple but effective.
I went quite far but I have to admit I gave up when it asked me to visit three houses to repair the sun.
It would be nice if the arrows pointing to the houses also showed the distance.

Ad Astra by Cosmologicon 2014-04-29T06:08:00

Thanks for the world map, it's very interesting :)

Ben Eath The Surf Ace by mess110 2014-05-01T09:07:00

Very stupid but I loved it :)

Heaving of the Depths by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2014-05-01T10:33:00

Wow that's an incredibly ambitious game for 48h and with a very impressive result!
The art is beautiful of course. Can't speak that much of the gameplay because I seem to have hit some bugs like other players: I'm at level 3, my xp doesn't increase anymore and I still can't beat the 3 octopuses to free my friend.
In any case the world is beautifully rendered an the attention to detail is incredible. Well done!

PORTHOLE by Ragzouken 2014-05-04T20:08:00

The graphics are brilliant, how many games use claymation? Very moody and inventive. Audio fits perfectly.

Tell Me About Your Childhood As A Nervous Goldfish by garygreen 2014-05-06T20:42:00

Very nice take on the theme! I really like the twitchy look of the fish, certainly seems traumatized :)
A bit disappointed that there's no real twist at the end but I'm sure you ran out of time.

Beneath by FelipeTavares 2014-04-28T20:12:00

Very impressive for 48 hours! Entering places seems a bit buggy though (it's hard to know when you're on the right spot).

Dig or Die by Joror 2014-04-30T21:09:00

Very interesting concept and awesome use of the theme. The music fits the mood perfectly.
Lots of my workers died and I only scored 280 :/
Took me a while to figure out the controls though, and even then, I was often not sure what I was doing.

Cthulus are Beneath the Surface by Pent 2014-04-28T20:01:00

The multiplayer is a really neat idea and well executed!

Tenkosei ROBO by radmars 2014-05-01T17:23:00

I do love me a typing game. I wish there was more, I was really intrigued by the story! Great job.

Anthill by gre 2014-05-01T10:04:00

Nice game and great idea for the theme. On my first playthrough all my ants but I did better the second time. Though at one point I stopped getting new ants. Is it because my queen died? Is there anyway to reverse this situation? It gets very repetitive after that.

Magma by DMinsky 2014-05-01T08:41:00

Great graphics, simple and intuitive gameplay, and great use of the theme.
Although it's a bit disappointing that the only way to kill everybody seems to be to wait for them to commit suicide by volcano. Even then, I didn't manage to kill everyone. Apparently 209 people live in the countryside or something, since all the cities showed "Punished", and no planes flying anymore.
I couldn't figure out how to get "mega vulcano" either (I tried firing several volcanos in the same place, next to each other, and not missing any of them).

Magma by DMinsky 2014-05-01T22:16:00

Ha, indeed, I never realized that you could use more energy for single volcano :)

Surf Ace by Lyonsbanner 2014-05-01T09:26:00

It's obviously missing some stuff (some kind of score and failure condition are obvious) but it's a good start. I like the shark sprite a lot, and the way the surfer can surf beneath the surface is pretty comical.
My main complaint is that it's often not possible to avoid the obstacles because there's a boat and a shark at the same time.

Upper Crust by dylanwolf 2014-04-28T21:06:00

Neat innovative concept!

Deus ex Submarine by Jod 2014-05-01T11:33:00

Nice game! Replaying was a bit tedious but I did it several times anyway and saved them in the end! (well the few that were still alive).
I had mixed feelings about the sunglasses thing (no spoilers). On one hand it was a pleasant/funny surprise, on the other hand it kind of clashes with the very serious atmosphere set by the rest of the narration.

Just a detail but I don't think that's how a submarine works though :) (doesn't a sub go up a down with ballasts rather than propulsion?)

De Profundis by mtinkerhess 2014-05-01T06:01:00

Nice graphics, loved the effects (particles and blur). The music is very fitting too.

Beast Emerging by adcrusher 2014-04-30T22:00:00

Really awesome graphics and fun concept. I'm not very good though so I'm sure I missed more cool stuff.
I kept wanting to eat the dragons :)

Crazy Drill by calimeraw 2014-04-30T21:53:00

Great little casual game. I died a lot at first but it's true that once you figure it out it becomes a bit too easy. That could be fixed easily by adding more elements, and as it is it's a great game for one day.
My only complaint is that using the up or down arrows too much made the actual page scroll (using Chrome on OS X).
I agree with quill18 that this game has a lot of potential on mobile. Well done!

The developers conundrum by nilstastic 2014-04-27T19:44:00

Cute, I actually "figured it out" by attempting to cheat ;)

Maze Sweeper by Turkey 2014-05-04T07:34:00

Cool concept. Definitely needs a click counter though, otherwise you have no idea how many clicks are left. More ways to make deductions (like the numbers in minesweeper) would also be cool in my opinion.

Delve Into the Deep by frogcheese 2014-05-04T16:45:00

Awesome game, really fun to play! I love how the music fades in as you dive. The graphics are very cute too and Santiago/Michael is a funny dude. Great job!

Seismic Charge by J.Barrows 2014-05-01T07:01:00

Even after reading the instructions, it took me a while to realize that yes, the game had finished loading, and to figure out what was going on. But when I did, I actually really enjoyed playing the game. Even if there's no real challenge, it's very satisfying to play (who doesn't like to collect money and power ups!)
You could add a little bit of challenge by keeping highscores based on the number of bombs dropped and/or the time taken to win.

Smoldering Star by Mikhail Lyubimov 2014-05-04T17:46:00

Awesome mood, the shadows really feel alive, well done.

Mine flood by Seme 2014-04-30T20:34:00

Pretty challenging! Nice level design too. You should really consider adding highscores to make it more addictive.

Planetary Fruit Miner by InvisibleWonder 2014-04-30T05:27:00

Really fun concept! My only complaint is that it's hard to remember what's valuable and what's not. It would be good to have a visual cue, or a handy cheatsheet on the screen at all times. I think this has the potential to be fleshed out into a bigger game.
Well done!

Mermaid Scientist Massacre by pancakecity 2014-05-02T16:52:00

Great game! Love the concept and the graphics are really cute. The number of different backgrounds is impressive. Going through the intro again every time I lost (which I did a lot) was annoying, but that's an easy fix.

The Money Beneath Our Ground by João Kucera 2014-04-30T05:47:00

Fun concept and pretty addictive. Too bad it's so simple. The winning strategy is obvious: just keep planting the most valuable vegetable you can afford (so it quickly boils down to how fast you can plant tomatos) and by the stuff you're supposed to buy right at the end. Also all the levels are pretty much all identical. Would be nice to have things like power ups to make the game more interesting. Still, I enjoyed playing it, and the art and music are good, well done :)

Light Eater by Cawrtz 2014-04-29T21:14:00

Very cool! Beautiful art, especially at the beginning and end. I liked the mechanics and really enjoyed playing the game even if I felt like it dragged on a bit. The different types of weapons were cool and renew the gameplay, but all the levels are still pretty similar. Overall quite impressive for 48 hours. Good job!

Daisy's dog is dead by alvarop 2014-05-02T20:22:00

Great game! Fun to play, and the number of levels and different mechanics is impressive. Great atmosphere too. The only thing I don't like is that the premise makes me depressed :(

The fight beneath the surface by Caridorc 2014-05-02T16:28:00

This is the first game I see with voice acting, great idea! Hearing you clicking and turning pages was so cute :p
It was a bit hard to understand sometimes with your accent and since I'm not a native speaker either. Subtitles would have been nice. And also I though it was... way... too... slow, with a lot of repeated/useless dialogue. You could cut a lot of it.
I was a bit disappointed that there weren't more plot twists in the story. I started by going right because it was sooo obvious that I was actually supposed to go left that I thought it must be a double bluff. I guess I was overthinking it!

Lilu's and Lula's Mountain Adventures by udvaritibor 2014-05-01T07:10:00

Very enigmatic. The background music gives it a great mood. The jumping puzzles were a bit frustrating though.

Coffin by mattrified 2014-04-30T21:37:00

Very impressive graphics, and great mood, I liked the intro a lot.
I only played through once, is there a way to actually win?

Coffin by mattrified 2014-05-01T06:36:00

Thanks for the video, I think I got very close to winning. Oh well :)

Sub Aquam Adventure by JimmyBoh 2014-04-28T21:58:00

The physics are pretty comical :) It's a really simple concept but it's easy to cause your own demise by diving just a little too far. The red glow gives a great sense of urgency when you're running out of air.

Wow, the idea that one could create games with pdfs never crossed my mind. Loved the humor too, so many piranhas! :)

MazeShift by edriavw 2014-04-29T19:21:00

I like the clean and simple graphic style. It looks very professional, well done.
The concept is also quite interesting concept and is worth investigating more.

Drilling Beneath the Surface by Chemical_Studios 2014-05-01T06:14:00

Cute little game and quite fun. You should add some kind of time pressure to make it harder.
I liked the art a lot. Well done!
I scored 2500, but I have no idea what my score means. You should either display the score in-game, or give a hint like "try to beat the game faster" or "try to get hurt less".

I encountered a small bug where on the main screen, the area I had to click for the buttons was shifted down. What I mean is that clicking "play" and "how to play" did nothing, but clicking "quit" actually started the game. This is on OS 10.9.2, java version "1.6.0_65"

Save your tribe! by FrameMatt 2014-05-01T06:51:00

Love the graphics (especially the main character's expression) and backstory.
To people wondering if it's possible to die: yes it is, I actually died several times :)
Why do those shards like hiding underneath rocks so much?!

Ocean Bling by PunkerellaSummers 2014-04-30T20:47:00

Not bad at all for a first game!
You should add some kind of highscore to motivate the player to try again.

Frog V Ducks by maffydub 2014-04-28T21:53:00

Nice effects with the floating and disappearing text, and the background music is pretty cool. I's kind of hard to see what' going on though.

Scary Ugly Face by Jonochrome 2014-05-03T22:06:00

Great game! Really nice animations, I'm impressed by everything you've managed to accomplish in 48h.

The Stars, Like Dust by davedx 2014-05-01T06:29:00

Very cool concept. A bit limited for now but I really loved the idea.
I couldn't get black holes to work though, and I'm not sure I get how this fits the theme?

Airport Security Screener by SevenKingdomsSurvivors 2014-04-29T19:28:00

Very cool concept, just wish the actual x ray screen was bigger. Awesome song, well done! :D

Homesick by jmf 2014-05-01T11:03:00

Really enjoyed playing this! Very funny, and these brain teasers are always fun. Very well done!

Small error I think: during their testimonies, both Triangle and Square refer to their third friend as Circle instead of Hexagon. Circle is me :)

Beer 3000 by neosam 2014-05-01T10:45:00

Nice little game. It looks easy at first but it actually gets quite hard.

Earth. by miwuc 2014-05-02T07:03:00

Thank you all for your comments!

@vinull, yes, the "speed dig" was intended (otherwise the hand and the shovel would do the same thing), but completely undiscoverable, I should really have added a help message.
The disappearing layers are also intended, I didn't want it to be too grindy so a layer disappears when there's under 20% left of it.

Also lesson learned about the sound, I'll add a mute button next time!

You're Pulleying My Leg by Draknek 2014-05-01T13:53:00

Connecting LD30 to the Real World by Will Edwards 2014-08-26T17:49:00

Brilliant concept, congrats!

Intergalacticnet by divillysausages 2014-08-30T22:25:00

Simple fun gameplay, great graphics, fitting music and hilarious dialogue. Overall very solid entry, great job! But god I'm terrible at this game :]

Level 1 Dentistry for Tooth Faeries by garygreen 2014-08-27T17:40:00

Good start for a simple avoiding game. Too bad all the levels are basically identical, so it gets old very quickly. The floating texts are quite funny, but I had to look at the source code to read them, they're moving too quickly in the game :) I really like the visual effect when you pick up a tooth.

Fight those Pirates by Dohan 2014-08-26T17:20:00

Not a new idea, but nicely done and fun. Good job browncoat! Would have been nice to have some power ups.

Super Shaker X by voxel 2014-08-26T10:14:00

Very fun game! And ambitious indeed, with 3 characters and 4 planets. Simple but I enjoyed playing it a lot. Funny ending.

GalEx - We Connect Worlds! by markusfisch 2014-08-28T17:55:00

Nice interpretation of the theme! Simple and fun gameplay. I also dig the clean simple graphics. Would have been nice to have some music!

I gave up on the last level after a dozen tries, wrote this comment, went back... and beat it on first try :)

Sandbox Battle by jpverkamp 2014-08-28T18:46:00

Very innovative and intriguing concept. The particle effects where you can see every grain of sand are really nice.
The gameplay is a bit confusing though. You say "colliding with other players will steal their sand". But if you're colliding with them, they're colliding with you... So it's not clear to me who will steal from whom, even after playing a couple of times. I played with a friend, she hid in in the bottom right corner, and I couldn't manage to steal her sand.

A Brief Excursion by MalphasWats 2014-08-28T18:10:00

Nice start, the procedural worlds are well done. But it would be more fun if you could kill the bats, or maybe have some indication of where the thing you're supposed to find is?

Worldco by awesomeusername 2014-08-28T19:20:00

Quit a nice game if I do say so myself!

The gameplay is really well thought through, except for one thing: there's nothing preventing you from waiting for hours before starting, collecting tons of money, then building 5 links everywhere. You can say "but the high scores!" but I don't think that works. There are the highscores, but I don't think that's enough. In a game like that, you shouldn't have to worry about highscores until you've beaten a level at least once. Here, if you don't care about highscores, the game becomes almost trivial. This could be fixed easily with a time limit for instance.

Apart from this flaw, it's a really solid game, congrats!

1492 by Hexadecima1 2014-09-16T18:28:00

It's a really nice game, but it's sad that you got #27 for music that you didn't make. It's not fair to everyone that follows the rules of the compo. Next time, please either make the music yourself or enter your game in the "jam" category.

Lava Is Last by Crefossus 2014-08-29T07:51:00

Nice fun entry. I like this kind of game, although sometimes I had to guess, and I'm still not sure what the reasoning is in the level before last. The sounds effects are hilarious. Good job!
(I didn't notice the message in the corner until I read one of the comments, because the game was too big to fit on my 13" laptop screen, so the top was cut off while I was playing)

HEDGE HUNTERS by rohin 2014-08-28T20:20:00

I really like your take on the theme! Changing the enemies into healers is innovative and fits well.

However, there are a couple of problems with the gameplay. First of all, it starts really slowly. It takes a long time for there to be enough hunters that you can't just hide in a corner. There should already be some hunters scattered when you start the game.
Second, the collision with hunters doesn't work very well. Most of the time you can just run past them and nothing happens. Also, there should be feedback of some sort when you get hit.

All in all it needs some work but it's a great effort. Keep at it!

The MillionWood by frogcheese 2014-08-28T08:58:00

Awesome game! Fits right in the theme, trippy graphics and music, and good level design. I haven't finished it yet, but I might try again later. That (last, I hope?) level where the top left guy must drop to a stone platform below then hop on three black things is just diabolical.
It always amazes me how some people can code a game and produce so much level design, in 48 hours.
I loved your LD29 entry as well, keep up the great work!

Double Take by mrjohnson22 2014-08-29T07:34:00

Good demo, could have been a really nice entry if you'd had more time.

Meowrror by thiaguera 2014-08-26T15:15:00

Really cute puzzle game! I just love that cat's animations and sound. Great graphics and music, all around a very polished game.

The main issue is that there's no difficulty to speak of, apart from trying not to get fooled by the mirroring. As a result it feels very repetitive. Only the last level is slightly harder, but even then, you only have to plan 2 or 3 moves at a time. I also wished you could play a bit faster.

But props to you for trying to make a puzzle game. I think it's really hard to come up with good level design, on top of developing the game, in 48 hours.

Hello Worlds by dustyroom 2014-08-27T18:05:00

Great game! Very simple concept (the best kind of concept), with a solid execution.
I didn't think it was too hard, I only died once of twice. If anything, I think the later levels should be harder for a better sense of progression. It was probably a lot harder before you fixed the block ordering bug (but I'm glad you did, it would have been awful).
As it is, all the levels feel too similar. If you continue developing the game (which you should!), you should add more mechanics at the game progresses.

Ctrl-I by mihaivdev 2014-08-28T19:31:00

This is not working for me either :/ I'm on a Mac (10.9.4), I've tried Firefox and Chrome, and in both cases I can only see the paddles. No bricks, no ball, no nothing. There's no error in the js console either.
It's a shame, it looks like a really fun game.

Crossed SIgnals by exoticorn 2014-08-28T07:33:00

The concept great! It seems very simple at first, but levels 3-4 show that it has a lot of depth. I didn't complete level 5, however, because I got too frustrated by the god awful controls. I think the ball shouldn't move when you use the left or right arrow keys, only the camera should move. Again, the puzzle part was great, but the jumping part was extremely frustrating.
The music is hilarious!

Connected Words by Teesquared 2014-08-30T20:59:00

Very fun innovative game. It really makes you appreciate how nonsensical some (most?) of these tweets are.
Definitely a favorite. Great job!

Into Orbit by DarkUser 2014-08-27T17:49:00

Very simple concept, the best kind of concept! Solid execution, love how the title appears on the splash screen. Great job!

DimLey by Simaflux 2014-08-29T08:43:00

Really fun puzzle game. I would have liked more levels. I didn't feel like the being able to shoot in the second part added anything though. Extra points for having an intro.

Stay in Fate by sneeuwpopsneeuw 2014-08-28T07:56:00

Impressive amount of work for 48h! Even if I get the feeling you didn't finish it. I got to a second level with a huge enemy, that I defeated, then nothing. Is that the end or is there something I missed? I also didn't really see the connection with the theme.
I liked the background and music a lot.

WorldLink by MikeTheWayne 2014-08-26T14:38:00

This has the potential for a good incremental game. Right now it's too basic but I'd like to see it expanded.
There are some big bugs. I made lots of money because when I landed somewhere, I had a negative number of cargo/passengers, and so I could fit a lot more than I had space for :) The UI was pretty intuitive but it needs some "max" button to fill to capacity, I had to do *a lot* of clicking.

Balance the Worlds by slowfrog 2014-08-25T16:44:00

Nice concept! Too bad you didn't get to implement the full gameplay, it looks like it could have been very interesting. The controls are a bit cumbersome though.

Connected buddies by Scarounet 2014-08-29T13:55:00

I like the simple clean graphics and the concept was promising. I really wish there were more levels! I hope you make a post LD version.

I think it's not just beginners who think too big for, everybody has this problem :)

Princess Color by lasecun 2014-08-29T06:03:00

Nice little platformer, a bit unforgiving to my taste. It's not nice to make me start from scratch when I get hit a single time :/ Collision with coins could also use some work. I used the block on the left to cheat and look at all the levels anyway, which was useful for rating.
Nice story and take on the theme!

VENN by OFF 2014-08-29T12:15:00

Cool concept that I feel could be taken a lot farther with more/better level design. The current levels feel a bit repetitive and in my opinion don't do full justice to this awesome idea.

I have a lot of respect for all the people who have made puzzle games, I couldn't possibly code a game and come up with good levels in 48 hours.

The music is terrific and gives a great mood to the game.
I hope you make a post LD version!

Join Us! by INC$D021 2014-08-28T07:09:00

Nice game! The bullets that wrap around is a brilliant idea. It really makes this game stand out.

OtherWorld by shashwat 2014-08-28T19:49:00

Interesting concept! I liked the intro and the gameplay. I wish there were more levels.

However, as other people have said, you cannot enter this in the compo if you haven't made the sprites. It's not fair to people who comply with the rules. You can enter it in the jam though.

Torn Between Worlds by CaptainCabbage 2014-08-29T08:33:00

I really like the concept, but the problem is that when you're in the blue world, you have no way of timing your jump back to the red world to avoid certain death by fireball. If you could see the two worlds side by side maybe that would have helped. Otherwise great idea and fits in the theme perfectly, nicely done.
(and I'm on mac so I went out of my way to install half a dozen lib and compile this from source, because your screenshot was intriguing!)

World of Beatrice, the girl next door by Lyszie 2014-08-25T06:28:00

Cute and depressing, but that's the point. I would have liked it to be longer!

TechKnights by laluis1 2014-08-29T08:53:00

Links don't work for me.

Also, if you didn't make (or generate, see http://abundant-music.com/ and http://www.bfxr.net/) the music/sfx yourself, you cannot enter this game in the compo. It doesn't matter if the music is free, for compo you have to make it yourself in the 48 hours. You can enter it in the jam however, where the rules are more lenient.

Planetary Conformity by Healthire 2014-08-29T12:00:00

Awesome puzzle game with lots of levels. The mechanics take a while to sink in but later levels get really interesting. However, I got stuck on "blockade" :/ Can you give me a hint?

The graphics are very smooth and clean. A few UI tweaks that could make it even better:
- More obvious highlighting of the currently selected planet
- Explanation and or more visual feedback about the radius of action
- More obvious difference between military and fortified planets. I kept forgetting which was wich. Alternatively, an on screen cheat sheet might do.

Great job overall!

Robbin' Hoods by BroCade 2014-08-26T19:50:00

Cute and well made! Nice graphics and very fitting music. I would have played longer if there was a win state, to give some sense of progress. Very polished game, congrats.

WORLDS 2D by fleegle2000 2014-08-26T15:23:00

Fun concept with lots of potential! I was genuinely disappointed when it ended so soon.

Sol by Mali 2014-08-26T15:44:00

Cool concept that gets interesting very quickly. Simple but clean graphics. Very polished feel overall, well done!

However, on the splash screen it says "music by <some guy who's probably not you>". If you used music you didn't make (or generate...) yourself, you're breaking the compo rules and this should be a jam entry. Please re read the rules at http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2014/04/25/rules-and-guide-re-written-for-maximum-clarity/ If you can't make music, you can use this generatator: http://abundant-music.com/

Sol by Mali 2014-08-26T16:31:00

That's super honest of you, sorry if I came a bit harsh! Now I feel guilty because I don't know what the impact will be on all the ratings you've gathered so far. Maybe you should ask one of the organizers what you should in this kind of situation?

Balance by miwuc 2014-08-26T07:29:00

The upside down win screen is a statement... about life... and everything. Ok, I fixed it ! (I think I'm allowed... but I'm never sure)

Balance by miwuc 2014-08-27T18:12:00

Oh shoot, I accidentally unfixed the upside down fix. Thanks for telling me! It should be fixed (again).

@sneeuwpopsneeuw that's the lovliest comment I've ever had, thanks! :)

Balance by miwuc 2014-08-30T19:39:00

Thanks you all for the nice comments and suggestions.
Sorry for those who are encountering bugs. To be honest, this code is the absolute worst thing I've ever written so I'm not surprised at all that it's buggy. Fortunately, it seems to be working ok for most people. Maybe it's a browser issue, but then again, maybe not. I developed mainly on Chrome, so maybe try using that if the game isn't working for you.

Balance by miwuc 2014-08-31T05:21:00

@Crefossus Thanks for the comment. There's actually suppose to be a message with instructions at the start, but since this is coded like crap and there's no preloader or anything, you can miss if if you start playing before the image is loaded. I'll trying to fix that, I think it falls under "porting the game to more players". Or I can add an on-screen button...

Stellar by sanojian 2014-08-27T17:22:00

Nice game, it took me a while to really get what was going on, but when I did the concept seemed very good to me. The last level really brings it out. However, I didn't beat it because it was quite cumbersome to play with a trackpad. I would have changed it so that you don't need to drag all the way to the destination planet, only drag in that direction. Unless you intended the dragging accuracy to be part of the difficulty, but I don't find it very entertaining.
I also liked the graphics. Overall, great job!

Interplanetary Bridge Builder by Banni 2014-08-26T20:19:00

Neat innovative game. It's missing a bit of challenge currently, but if you had more time for level design, I think it could become very interesting. The budget thing was a good idea to prevent you from abusing the 10+ rule.

kunektd by brodavi 2014-08-30T21:27:00

Nice little exploration game. I had fun playing it and I wish it was longer, so good job :)

Hint to anyone stuck on the third level: when everything is square, walls and people look alike.

Simple Realms by mramaizng 2014-08-28T08:26:00

Nice little game, surprisingly fun! I'm not very good though (especially when the vegetation starts trying to kill you too) so I only made it to the boss of the second world. Good job!

Tangled Chalkboard Planets by Fernando 2014-08-29T14:06:00

Nice presentation, very polished game. Would have liked more levels!

Win detection is pretty buggy. You can cheat by putting planets on a line, which makes the game think some of the lines of that planet start on one side, and others start on the other side of the line. In truth, they should all be seen as starting from the center of the planet.

LD33 — You are the Monster

The Monster Who Was Not (Yet) A Kiwi by Yakka 2015-08-25T18:46:00

Aww so cute. I love is the sound effects!

Ludzilla by highlyinteractive 2015-08-26T19:38:00

I love the music and title screen. I found the gameplay a bit sluggish. It could be very satisfying if it was faster.
Nice job overall!

You! Are the monster by panda 2015-08-30T16:04:00

Really cool! I solved 4 in a row. The first one I got was really hard I though (#25031), the next ones were easier. It's pretty awesome that's it's procedurally-generated, it would be even awesome if you could control the difficulty, so that you could have levels, or a difficulty curve at the beginning.

Gascreep's Fortune by ZzCalvinzZ 2015-08-30T16:48:00

The mood is really well done! It's really where this game stands out. The gameplay is a bit too simple. I wish the level was bigger, and you could hear different sounds of the parents coming and going (right now it's always the same sound, that means you get caught). Too bad the graphics are blurry, they're pretty neat otherwise.

Hungry Beast by ovenchips 2015-08-25T19:05:00

Cute concept, and the beast has nice animations! A bit buggy though which made it frustrating to play for me. I had trouble making the flies stick, and it would "game over" randomly. There were also bugs on the tongue rendering but those are hilarious :p

Hungry Beast by ovenchips 2015-08-26T19:49:00

@ovenchips duh, thanks for the explanation! I read your game's description, not the in games rules (or I spaced out at the end, apparently my attention span lasts one sentence :p)

God-Kill-A by Turkey 2015-08-24T20:52:00

Nice start. It obviously needs more polish, but it has potential. As it is, it's a bit hard to know what's going on without animations/sound, and it takes a bit too long to ramp up in my opinion. But the gameplay seems interesting.

Gojira-Chan no Densetsu by Rongefilet 2015-08-25T15:44:00

Clean cute graphics and cool music. The gameplay is a bit simple at the moment but has lots of potential!
おめでとう/bien joué !
I also made a Godzilla themed game if you want to check if out.

Gravity Snake by lessmilk 2015-08-24T18:05:00

Love the music, I'd give it 6 out of 5 if I could.

Awesome twist on the ol' cookie clicker formula. I wish it as longer!

Sticky Pudding by Headmade 2015-08-25T19:35:00

Game of the year? This deserves an academy award!

Elevator Monster by MrKOHCEPBAHT 2015-08-28T21:12:00

Game could be fun with some time pressure and losing condition. The fact that you can get multiple people at the same time only if they're in different columns makes it interesting. I like the monster's look, and I'm impressed you had the time to add an intro!

Blop Avanger by Mimus 2015-08-30T15:38:00

A bit repetitive, but still strangely addictive. There's an impressive amount of content! I went pretty far (I think), but I didn't finish it because I had to quit the game and lost my progress :/ I wish it would persist saves (or does it? there's a load button on the main screen but I couldn't figure out how to save)
Félicitations, ça a du être un sacré boulot !

Coffee Quest by Big Cow 2015-08-27T19:50:00

Great take on the theme, awesome ending. I would have like it to be more challenging, but it was fun to play.

Bloup! by Noisette 2015-08-25T19:28:00

Wow! really innovative and fun. Of course, I didn't realize what had happened the first time I became the master. It needs to be more obvious! Bit red background or something :) Anyway congrats, awesome idea and great execution.

Sea Monster by cicanci 2015-08-24T20:41:00

Simple but quite fun at the end. I would've ramped up the difficulty more quickly, it takes a while to get interesting.

Blob Basher by Josho 2015-08-24T22:22:00

Blob is cute. Crunching people is satisfying. It's too bad you can get points for doing nothing but crouching.

I'm a Monster Rawr! by bakakyo 2015-08-25T05:08:00

I love the premise. Super cute monster and cute music! Bullets are a bit hard to see though, and it's slightly buggy starting at the second level: sometimes citizens still show after you've dropped them, and/or you have to drop them again.. Also you get hit when starting a new level before you can even move, that's how I died :( The gameplay is a bit repetitive but it has potential.
I saved 30 citizens :]

Dragon Tax Return Simulator 2015 by walsh9 2015-08-30T16:39:00

Escape From The City by miwuc 2015-08-29T07:25:00

@wg_phancock Thanks for the feedback! I "made" the audio with abundant-music.com, so it's 99% random number generator, 1% me choosing a random number I like, removing some tracks I don't like, cutting it, and generating an mp3. I would have liked to change some instruments, but the new version of garangeband wasn't agreeing with me >:( And I didn't notice until after submission that it had added its stupid 2 seconds of silence at the end...

Escape From The City by miwuc 2015-09-14T08:26:00

@chromebookbob, I didn't put an explicit source link, but it's just a javascript game, so the source is in the source of the page. More specifically, the (ugly) javascript is here: https://5d98f6f08e622c57ee8af7a560433f4c9108a2a2.googledrive.com/host/0B9sSi-B7GNAAa2dNc25KUmFMVjg/jeu.js

Monster Academy by feiss 2015-08-29T05:18:00

Fun and really impressive level of polish. I also considered doing a wario ware-like game at one point, but knew I couldn't produce enough content in 48h >_< I'm really impressed!

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Grow In VR by hpearson2 2015-12-25T12:21:00

Cool app! But watering didn't seem to be working for me (I tried everything I could think of, nothing ever happened) so I'm not rating. Still I wanted to say that I played it with Cardboard and it was really cool!

Kowloon Walled City by Yakka 2015-12-14T21:14:00

Cool game! Great presentation, it's really cute, and I liked the historical context (I'd never heard of it). I like the concept and it was fun to play.
My only complaint is that I found it hard to remember what each block was doing. The objective was also a bit unclear (I thought I was more in control during my second attempt, but I actually scored less).
Well done!

Fun with magnets! by Ithildin 2015-12-21T13:32:00

Nice concept with lots of potential. I would love to see it go more into a puzzle direction, maybe by limiting the number of polarity switches you can do (right now you can solve any level with trial and error).
The presentation is very polished, congrats!

hARBOuR by Aurel Bílý 2015-12-27T15:46:00

You're very harsh on yourself! I liked the game quite a lot. The graphics are great, I liked the backstory and I had fun playing.

AutoInvaders by Sri Harsha Chilakapati 2015-12-27T12:17:00

Nice game with polished presentation, nice audio, even has a boss fight. I kind of liked the concept but at the same time it felt a bit slow, static and too easy. It would be nice to have more action and visual effects, power ups and whatnot (but of course that's hard to do in 48 hours).

Hearty's Quest by LMT 2015-12-21T14:09:00

I liked how being able to turn in only one direction actually makes the puzzles more difficult. The game was a bit boring at first, but later levels get more interesting. However, "skip turn" should be a separate button, so using long press to make it fit is kind of stretching the theme. Presentation is very good, solid entry.

Wesh Grow by SamH 2015-12-24T16:24:00

Nice entry with potential. Controls are very hard at first, but you get slightly better at it with practice. It would be nice if power ups had more effect on the ship. As is, I didn't feel like they changed much apart from appearance/size, which only really matters in the penultimate level.
And the title is lol.

Rise by Crafting4U 2015-12-27T12:36:00

Nice innovative game, I liked the mechanics a lot and there are a lot of gameplay elements for a LD gamre. The level design was also pretty good. I liked the first level in particular. Main downside is that it was a bit buggy. And those damn spikes are way too sensitive >_>

Moon defend by Neonian 2015-12-27T12:44:00

I liked the concept a lot! Simple and effective, and fits the theme perfectly. Challenging as well! I can't say I did a very good job of protecting the earth :( With more polish (some music, difficulty ramp up, and more visual effects) this could be a very solid entry.

Knight vs. Mage by Thembi 2015-12-27T13:00:00

Love it! I like the rhythm game mixed with an RPG theme a lot. The presentation is very polished and it's lots of fun to play. If I had to nitpick, I'd say it would be nice to have more feedback: make it more obvious when I miss a key, make it more rewarding when I gain a level.

Expando-ship by FireSlash 2015-12-27T13:23:00

Awesome concept, and bullets *everywhere* make it very satisfying to play. I'm also impressed there's a funny, well written story to go with it (ok I'm terrible at this sort of game so I cheated I just read level.js) Great job!

My Space Empire and Me by Calciumtrice 2015-12-27T18:08:00

I was looking for a twine game, and when I saw "Calciumtrice", I knew I was in for a treat! Great writing, had be laughing out loud. I just wish it was a bit less linear, but I liked your LD28 entry and I wasn't disappointed by this one either.

My Space Empire and Me by Calciumtrice 2016-01-05T06:24:00

Top 10 humor, congrats!

Man Simulator by Drtizzle 2015-12-21T14:20:00

Aww yeah! 16 points! Fun little game. Slightly disappointed by the lack of actual bar fight, but I imagine you ran out of time (what with having both 2D and 3D in a single game!)

GrowForce by Ping78 2015-12-27T16:31:00

Simple yet addictive. With more gameplay mechanics, this could be a great clicking game. I wish there was more freedom to move the camera around and zoom, as I had trouble seeing my tree/what I was doing.

Grow by Dimitri0xFF 2015-12-23T23:57:00

Interesting idea. A bit hard to understand what's going on but I guess it's part of the game. I got a highscore of 21.

Wanderer of the Frozen Wastes by nassi 2015-12-27T15:32:00

Clever entry! The mechanics seem really simple at first, but after playing a few minutes you realize you have more freedom of movement than you thought, thanks to momentum. The settings at the beginning are genius, and I also liked the character's animations. That being said, I didn't feel motivated enough to spend hours looking for all the treasures.

Grow and Match by johnnwfs 2015-12-25T07:58:00

Interesting mechanic, although I found it frustrating to play. At first it's reaaally slow and you spend like 15 seconds each turn doing nothing. It gets faster later on, but I got angry at level 6 and quit, so maybe it's just not a game for me :) One thing that might help is having a more obvious order of color change, and/or a cheatsheet that shows the order, so that you can plan things better.
It's a detail but I liked the subtle different backgrounds for each level. The game fits the 2-button theme perfectly.

Sprout by mahalis 2015-12-25T11:28:00

Awesome game! Love the concept. Simple and elegant, just the right difficulty level. Clean graphics, used both themes perfectly. Solid entry!

Growing (a Lump) by Ebbasuke 2015-12-27T18:34:00

Nice take on the theme, a lot more original than trees! I thought it was well written, but could use a bit more action. I liked the ending with the mirror. The other ones had a nice thing going on but I found them a bit underwhelming. Keep that vibe but develop it more!

The Lawpasser by KBF123 2015-12-14T21:29:00

Fun little game. A bit short but it has lots of potential. I liked the grizzly bear :D

Mail Girl by keyboardsan 2015-12-27T12:05:00

Not a terribly innovative game but all the elements are there: 2 button gameplay, health bar, increasing difficulty, and even some sound effects. I also liked the humor. My main complaint would be that it's hard to tell whether or not your are in a car's hit zone.

LD35 — Shapeshift

Shift the Shapes by Larzan 2016-04-24T09:58:00

Nice puzzle game, a bit on the easy side even though it can get quite hairy if you don't start with a plan on the later levels.

Solid Shape, and the shape of things to come. by McBeef 2016-04-27T20:08:00

Nice little puzzle game, I quite liked the concept. Good job!

Rue Printemps by Yakka 2016-04-19T06:40:00

This is the cutest thing ever. Very contemplative. I wish you could do more, I want a whole street!

ORIKAMI by Mnemusyne 2016-05-01T06:42:00

Beautiful graphics, mood and message. The game itself is pretty basic, I wish it made a difference whether you're a crane or a human.
Well done!

The Purple Banana by xhunterko 2016-05-08T14:49:00

Nice concept, I think it could be even more interesting by tweaking the flow of people and difficulty curve.
One flaw right now is that you can just repeat "left arrow 3 times, right arrow 3 times" to go from the left side to the right side of the truck super quickly all the time, and that will satisfy almost all customers.

InsertGameNameHere by unitycoder_com 2016-05-08T19:08:00

Well obviously it's Conway's game of life, there isn't more to it but it's well executed, except for the green circle which for it slightly offset from my mouse which makes it a bit annoying. It would be cool to have the option to speed up or down the simulation.

Disquieting Excerpts from My Diary by ViliX64 2016-04-28T20:05:00

Nice game with quite a lot of content, I was impressed. I particularly liked the little logic puzzle. Well done!

Shadow of the Red Hand by andyman404 2016-05-01T06:48:00

Awesome concept, and really well implemented. I was impressed by the amount of work that went into this.

The Tentacle Problem by kirilllosev 2016-05-08T14:36:00

I like the art a lot and the game feels polished. Simple gameplay but enjoyable, a good entry overall.

Shapescape by AlexLamarche 2016-04-19T06:31:00

Simple but quite fun to play. The colors and also the black borders make it a bit more challenging than it may seem.

Shaper by spr 2016-05-08T14:15:00

Ok so that could definitely use some instructions, unless part of the game is figuring out what's going one, which is fine too but maybe should be more explicit, or maybe give hints or something.

In the end I think I understood what was going on: you control the orange square. The red squares around you move to form different shapes, and you can see the next shape outlined in black. You can move the orange square to one of the red square locations.
Using this strange and unpredicatible movement mechanic, you have to try and hit the pink squares (+1), but not the green ones (-1).

It's an interesting idea but I found the shape-shifting to be too unpredictable and basically means you must not get too close to the green squares if you don't want to lose points. That being said, someone did manage to score 31 so I may be missing something.

Making it slower or maybe turn-based/puzzle oriented might be interesting.

RhythmicalCreation by lycoris102 2016-04-28T20:49:00

Nice fun and short! I like rhythm games :]

Cloud Sculptor by Naca 2016-05-01T06:35:00

I like the idea a lot, and the atmosphere is well done. I just wish the clouds would shift more, rather than just move and be masked by a shrinking circle :) But I can imagine it would be a lot harder to do (especially in 2-3 days).

KAIJU VS by plko 2016-04-28T20:34:00

Such a cool idea!

It could be more user friendly, as it's not completely clear that you have to copy/paste codes and it' easy to lose your monster that way. And more importantly, I couldn't copy paste or type anything using my keyboard! I had to right-click for everything which is super inconvenient.

That being said I had lots of fun talking to my creatures even though I had no idea how much of it actually mattered :) (probably not that much). In the end my monster "fast little bastard" won against "huge scary dekkai monster".

I wish the influence we had on the monster was a bit less random, but I love the concept in general, it has lots of potential, and my favorite part is checking what other people said to their kaiju by decoding the base64 codes :)

Here are my two monsters:

Agent Shapeshifter by Theseus101 2016-04-19T17:14:00

Nice concept. It took me a while to figure out what was going on and how to kill folks, and I had trouble with the controls so in the end I didn't manage to complete a mission :/ But I think it has potential and it could be fun with more polished controls. I also liked the bit of humor with the speech bubbles.
Regarding the controls, the fact that I don't have a real mouse (just a single button trackpad) didn't help, but also I wish you could press shift at any time to go faster (right now you have to press shift, THEN start moving), and that you knew what shape you were going to change into.

Black Lines by duh 2016-04-18T12:38:00

You know what I found this fun! The graphics are super simple but elegant. Overall it looks very polished, and given that you made it in less than 4 hours I'm impressed! My highscore is 132.
