Grave Rave! by ChickadeeGames 2014-04-28T22:12:00
Silly but fun. Never played a game where I throw food to a digger before so it gets bonus points for that :)

Love it! Favourite submission so far. Absolutely Hilarious!
Interesting idea. Movement well executed. Interface was nice and overall an interesting lunch break time killer. And sounds...well you've pointed that out already. Keep it up!
Nice but sad.
Bonus points for destructible terrain and particle physics! Too bad it crashes often. Keep it up!
Never played as a surf board before. Fun take on the theme.
Awesome! I made my cake perfect but extra sugary...about 470 grams ^^
You need to improve the controls a bit and I don't necessarily mean to make them easier, but have a play with different keys and see which ones make it somewhat easier. Maybe leave the movement part out. I had to use the controller as it was too weird on the keyboard. On the Xbox controller you have to invert the thumbsticks. I don't think i've ever seen a game in which you move with the left thumbstick and look around with the right one.
Oh and don't see the connection to the theme very much.
Little issues aside, this is a very strong submission and it goes as 3rd on my list of favourite ones so far :).
Keep it up!
Great mechanics, music fits well and graphical style is enough. I guess you wanted to have fun with the voice acting but if you want to make this into a fully fledged game I'd recommend removing it. Have a look at Modulate, a similar game that does quite well without any voice acting, might give you some ideas as well. Keep it up!
Cute game. I like the original mechanic. I think it would do well on mobiles. Keep it up!
Nice one. Innovative and fun. And I can't complain that freedom is so hard to buy, that's how real life is too :)
But honestly, you should make it somewhat easier.
Keep it up!
Pretty cool but could've done with some music.
Never heard of twine before but now that I looked it up, it's awesome. And you made very good use of it. Love the atmosphere, the feelings, and especially the music and sounds. Great game!
Thank you. The gameplay does indeed need work. The initial idea was to make a Lemmings like game where you'd have to guide your survivors through the arctic but because of some problems and time running out I had to resort to a simpler idea.
I've generated the music using www.abundant-music.com in case you'd like to use similar songs in your games.
Thank you all. There's an equally fun Win screen if you get to the end (10th checkpoint) :D
Thanks. The stopping issue caused me problems for the start and made me try and make the game in HaxeFlixel instead, but then I was having difficulties with creating the map in HaxeFlixel and went back to Unity. I think I know how to fix it now and I might try and continue development thanks to the positive comments and will most likely be upgrading the GameJolt link.
Congrats Action Remix :D!
And thanks all others for the comments.
Original. I often think there's no way someone will make something that hasn't been done. Thanks for proving me wrong.
Great idea. Slap some sound and music on and give it a few levels + some polish and get in on the app store or google play. Should get some downloads. Keep it up!
Damn those gunshots made me jump. Great game! Very dark humour but a great idea. Some improvements to be done on the camera but quite well done overall.
Excellent idea. Worth making it into a full game. Some music would've been good. You can use www.abundant-music.com to generate some.
Brilliant! This is quite a way of telling a story, and your story is well put together. Graphics are nothing short of beautiful and all it lacks is some sound and music. If you're not the composer kind of type I'll do as I did for all games without music and recommend you www.abundant-music.com music generator. It makes midi tracks but you can convert them to mp3 and they sound quite well and not repetitive.
Very original entry. Great mood and take on the theme. Too bad I'm fairly impatient (and not very good) with puzzle games, especially when numbers are involved :P. Anyway, great entry overalll, good luck!
Very good job! Loved everything about it. Excellent use of the theme, it plays just right, graphics and music are perfect, it's all great! I especially liked the separation of the music tracks for each side of the world, very nice feature.
Great entry, I found it difficult but that's probably because I'm generally bad at defense/tactic games, and if they're combined with need for quick reactions, I'm doomed :). Great game mechanics, great graphics (Hexels?), music, and impressed that you added quite a few levels. Congrats and good luck!
I like the idea, couldn't get my head around the steering very well and more or less used mainly the boost to direct myself into the satellites.
Good entry. I really liked the game mechanic and the interpretation of the Connected Worlds theme. What I wasn't really keen on was the AI voice. I can see that you tried to make it like Portal with the robotic voice effect with human-like personality, making puns and using sarcasm, but that requires considerably more work to get right, and I'd recommend that you try and find your own unique AI personality, rather than mimic an existing one.
Nevertheless, great gameplay and original idea. Best of luck!
@rooter4: That should've been fixed, just when I submitted last night I've noticed that can happen and added a very tiny amount of gravity so maybe after about 3 bounces or so, it should have moved out.
@tbamberg: exactly what my brother said :P, it is a bit annoying, wanted to make it generate minimalistic music when hitting anything but ran out of time
@TrickFishPie: Can you try any other browser? It's HTML5 WebGl, not sure how well that works in Safari :(
Right. This game is absolutely awesome. Sure it's a bit difficult and feels even unfairly so at times but you had 48 hours and balancing is not something that I'd expect from just that time.
I really want to see this as a full game for PC and Android (since you're using Unity I'm guessing porting should be quite easy), and don't even think about not doing so or I will nag you for life to do it! Good luck :)
Excellent entry! Very clever and unique idea! Great interpretation of the theme and great game overall. The little cubes that need to be teleported are a bit annoying when you get too close, because you kinda shoot through, but bugs are to be expected in jams.
Regarding the music, Abundant Music is a great resource, however, I find the kind of music it generates a bit unfit for a game like you have here and feel that it would've been better without it.
Anyway, goes on my top 3 right now! Congrats!
P.S: Was the game Modulate an inspiration source by any chance? :)
Nice entry! Tight controls, touched the theme well, and I loved the blood particle effect. Bonus points for using HaxeFlixel :)
Good job for first LD! And since you have the game base done now, you can change the graphics (it's best if it doesn't look like Canabalt :) ) and make it into a full game fairly easy. I really like the trail on the player and the speed feels just right.
Good job, some minor problems with the collision as you said but apart from that it's a really good entry. Don't forget to attach your source code.
Really unique idea and very well executed! Great entry. Love seeing innovations within a genre like this one.
Squished Trump goomba. 10/10 would tramp and Trump again.
Jokes aside, really well done. The movement needs slight tweaking and sometimes the character gets stuck in walls but other than that, it's all good. Not really following the theme but you've made a great game and that's all that really matters.
I like this, gives me a vibe inbetween The Room and Penumbra and I think it would be very close if you added some better models and textures. Great effort for such a short time and very nice idea with the notes!
Also, damn you @Zeriver for making me avoid the basement :)
Congrats on your game! I really appreciate that you added a settings and controls menu, add quite a bit of nice polish to the game. However I'd say that's both a blessing and a curse as working on a menu leaves less time for gameplay coding. The different music for each level was a nice touch too, but if playing without music either an indication of the current level or more variation in the graphics (different colour floor maybe) would've helped.
I couldn't find the rope but that's probably just me being thick.
Well done and keep it up!
Great interpretation of the theme, technology can't get more ancient than this :). Like the animations and the controls feel solid. The puzzles are a bit simple but all in all well done!
Very polished for an LD entry and great mechanic! The flip could've used a small explanation as initially it just seem that you get teleported to the right side of the screen but it's a minor detail. A flip animation would be great if done well enough to not make people dizzy :). The connection to the theme could've also been slightly stronger but all in all a great entry! Congrats and good luck!
Congrats on your first entry! Bonus points for making an RTS and for the catapults as my game has them too :).
Congrats on your first LD. Not bad for a first entry. I like that you animated the characters and like the look of your torches. Unfortunately I couldn't get past a place as there was a wall in the way and the character is too tall to fit under but couldn't jump over either. Also, it was a bit unclear whether I have to keep going right to find the treasure or try alternate paths.
Great text adventure and congrats on your first LD! This seems like a finished game and deserves more plays. I like how much depth you've added in such a short time, and the music greatly complements the scene. I managed to light up the fire but couldn't defeat the cat though. Only thing that could be improved would be the speed of the animations when backtracking as it becomes a bit tedious to go through them. Congrats again and good luck!
Forgot to mention one thing. I think some players might be put off playing your game as the Unity Web Player doesn't work in Chrome. Maybe publish a Window version to offer as download?
Plundered the seas, found the booty, learned that the world is flat but you cannot fall off. 10/10
Jokes aside, I really like your take on the theme. Also like your use of transparent cubes for fog but it would've been nice if you made them fade rather than disappear. It's a bit simple but you have a good idea going on so worth going forward. Good luck!
Nice multiplayer game. Seems like we both done similar games from in some ways (multiplayer, arena, last man standing) and even in pitfalls (my AI goes to the player location too :) ). Congrats on making it and bonus points for Haxeflixel, love that engine and Haxe itself :).
Forgot to mention, that I like your pixel art is very good. Keep it up!
Grammar fail...need some sleep. Sorry for extra useless comment.
Really like it! Haven't played a good text adventure in ages so glad to see someone making one. You should definitely expand this into a much longer game and if you do good luck doing so!
Probably the most fun LD36 game I played yet! 532m highscore. Tried a fair few times :).
Gameplay is great and don't think there's much to improve i n that respect. With some nicer graphics, better sounds/music (the current ones are very good for an LD) and menus you should have a fully fledged game (would be great on mobiles I'd say).
I really hope you take this to completion and publish it as you got a game with potential here! Good luck!
I really like this! One of my favourites so far. I am always fond of text adventures and yours is great. Really well executed and a fair amount of depth for such a short time. You're right about the ending, did leave me scratching my head and I'm not 100% sure I fully get the connection to the theme but loving this either way. Well done and good luck!
@hermetic Thanks for the feedback. The tower has a battering ram at the front (a bit small and unnoticeable i guess) and the catapult ball should damage but it seems that there's a bug :/ That's what happens when you try to add new features close to deadline...
Thanks for all the feedback peeps! Your comments are really motivating! The plan is to make it online multiplayer (host your own server style) with both ramming and shooting, and maybe some kind of customization for the vehicles, like mix and match weapons so you can create the ultimate siege vehicle! Oh and actual damage! Like parts falling off, I really want to add that.
The shooting has a bug and doesn't deal damage unfortunately. I'd fix it but I'm worried it might be seen as a new feature and don't want to break the rules so I'll do it for the post compo version which I'll start working on soon.
@Casevse: Thanks for the feedback! Glad you like the idea! The plan was to make it multiplayer but as I realised time wouldn't allow for that I've just added some rough AI. I'm now slowly working on transitioning to multiplayer and maybe will add some better AI to have bots.
@ReyHax: Thanks for your comments! I am aware of the problems you mentioned but unfortunately I didn't have enough time to fix them so hopefully will get there post jam :). Glad you like the idea though!
Great game! I love new retro stuff and happy to see someone making a game like this :D.
Love the music, the graphics are quite good too, and the gameplay is simple but fun. If you add some more levels, types of enemies, a bit of choice in weapon progression maybe, you should have a really nice game! Good luck!
Very simple but quite fun, although really difficult! Great job on the gameplay!
I like that you've made a roguelike as it's a genre I like a fair bit but unfortunately after about 350 turns of just going in random directions I had to give up. It would've been good to make the dungeon smaller and to allow holding a direction key until a monster is within a specific range to your character (have a look at Pixel Dungeon for a great example of this).
Good luck and I hope you continue this as there is potential.
