Wow. You obviously worked hard on this. Nice work.

Wow. You obviously worked hard on this. Nice work.
Hi, nice game and congratulations ! Simple mechanics that still offered a decent amount of challenge. We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.
Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description. (you can already find several games from the jam there)
I appreciate that AWOL. I tried my best working solo. If I had more experience with AI and dialogue prompts I think it would of been more entertaining.
The game is simple and great. I agree some improvements like AI and a dialogue system can make the game better, but most game jam games can be made better. As I see it, you now have a prototype, you can choose make it into a better game, or leave it and make something else. But the game is great as it is. I especially liked the simple graphics and the music. So overall well done.
Cute game! We really like the music.
It is a cool game. At the start I didn't know where to go, later it become easy, but it was funny. I like how you used the theme too (I am some sort of mythology freak). Art is not bad. I missed some sound there, but overall I think it is a good entry. You also made it alone, which is really hard, so you did a nice job!
Simple yet fun! Not sure if I won or died after jumping off the roof :P
The gameplay is nice +-. It would have been better if the guards actually took actions and didn't just stand there, waiting for their death.
The graphics are totally programmer art.
Sounds? Could be better with some :/
Overall - the game is nice, but if it was a bit longer it would become boring. More action is needed there :P
I like use of the theme, however as it has been said already, at the start i didn't really knew what to do and I was confused if those guys standing are enemies or not :D but at the end figured it out and finished the game. But as I said, use of theme was brilliant! :)
Controls need some work, they're a bit floaty, takes too long to change direction. Not to mention if you hit a wall, it doesn't set your velocity to zero. The ladders were confusing, as I didn't know where I was b/c every level looks more or less the same, and some enemies blended into the background. A good attempt.
Yay, Wilhelm Scream. Too bad it's from the dev intro, not the game itself. ^^'
I appreciate the effort that went into the game, though the game felt pretty rough round the edges. In particular, I feel the background was too bright (especially when compared to Icarus who has similar colour) and I wasn't quite a fan of how pixelated graphics are placed against non-pixelated area (generally, having pixels rotated and/or placed at fractional coordinates). Though playing around with soldiers physics was pretty fun (if maybe an unintended kind of fun), so maybe it's worth the cost? ^^'
Oh, also, the non-pixelated text felt inconsistent against the rest. >.<
Alright entry overall, but definitely needs more polish.
@RovingSquid Thanks! I've gotten into a habit of just making a simple beat and looping it. I need to make it longer so it doesn't break up on repeat though.
@AnaGF Problems of too big a scope and quickly making it fit. Aiming lower next time.
@yotam180, if you look at the source code the spritesheet has the guard's attack animation. I had to cut that in order to make an end condition. Big cut, I know.
@mato26 Yeah, hard to tell if the completely still guys that don't attack are bad xD. They were planned to be enemies but turned into props.
@AODQ I'm still learning how to make a solid player controller. Good movement is tough. Thanks for the feedback!
@Alphish Do you think my splash screen should be silent? I thought the same thing about the majority of your critiques. I just didn't have the time to worry about it, or do a lot of play testing. I purposefully turned on the wonky physics since I didn't have time to script their AI to give them a purpose, comedy. Thanks!
Ah, about the splash screen - I don't think it should be silent or anything, rather that if I were to hear a Wilhelm Scream, I'd prefer to have it in the game specifically. ;)
Nice game, it is good and simple.
The player character should contrast more with the wall behind him so its easier to make him out̶ a̶n̶d̶ ̶s̶o̶u̶n̶d̶s̶ ̶g̶o̶ ̶a̶ ̶l̶o̶n̶g̶ ̶w̶a̶y̶.̶ There is sound but it should be enabled from the start, not only when you check the sound settings! It feels slide-y with the acceleration and there is only one enemy that is a threat to you that I found (the bees). Overall, not bad, I liked the story.
@ianb96 Thanks, I was awful with color choice I know. I thought I fixed the sound issue but perhaps not. I had it defaulting to .5 (50%) but it must not be calling it. Guards were planned to be enemies, curse you time.
Controls could be improved by increasing the acceleration and friction, so you get a more tight control and slide less.
Nice little game here, I like the art. Sound would improve it a lot! And other than that, maybe clear up that you're supposed to be collecting the things listed on the wall at the start? Maybe it's just me, but I was a bit confused at that :D
Pretty neat game! Took me a bit of time to figure everything out, which was fun. It has simple yet fun combat mechanics.
The game was fun, but I couldn't progress past the first floor. I think you had to do something with the ladders or something? Anyway the game was fun, but some sounds/music would have been nice and the guards could do with an AI.
Interesting game. It seems like you have to be moving + click interact on ladders to use them and that seemed weird. Enemies could be more active it's understandable - you didn't have much time. I liked how sounds changed on every floor - nicely done. Your character controller could be simplified(was acceleration intended?) by having static move speed and changing velocity to 0 with OnCollisionEnter2D(). Also, to make character stop and turn faster - just increase Rigidbody2D linear drag in inspector :). Graphics look nice, thou could be a bit darker. Overall, pretty nice game, considering how little time you got. Good job!
Got a flashback making qbasic games with half block characters in text mode, pixels are about the same size!
Adding floor numbers would've helped with the stairs, i', still not sure if I actually climbed them or just teleported sideways randomly.
Congrats on your game! I really appreciate that you added a settings and controls menu, add quite a bit of nice polish to the game. However I'd say that's both a blessing and a curse as working on a menu leaves less time for gameplay coding. The different music for each level was a nice touch too, but if playing without music either an indication of the current level or more variation in the graphics (different colour floor maybe) would've helped.
I couldn't find the rope but that's probably just me being thick.
Well done and keep it up!
Good job! I like the art a lot, and the controls were smooth.
Albeit the confusing ladders and the not-so-clear end, the game was fun to play. But, as others have said, if it was just a bit longer, it would become very boring. Also, a higher contrast between Daedalus and the background would be welcome. Congrats!
For some reason I had no sound/music at all while playing (which would have been the thing I'd have critized). But it was still a nice little game. You could also try to make the enemies actually move around and have some kind of behaviour...
Going up to the roof and jumping without all the materials should result in a funny (or maybe not so funny D:) game over screen.
