LD28 — You Only Get One

Duck Pond by handCraftedRadio 2013-12-18T20:40:00

Hey, this is really good. Being a mother is hard though! My poor babies.

I scored 815 before I was carried off by a predator bird.

Nice retro feel in everything and very cleverly designed gameplay. Good job!

Patch by MarekkPie 2013-12-18T19:08:00

I ended up with 73 repeats. The T block was the worst, it hardly fit in anything. :)

Every blue square was a mark of shame and I cringed a little when the block I'd chosen ahead of time was terrible for the level which was amusing.

A good implementation of the theme and could be an interesting basis for a larger puzzle game. Maybe you could also consider a mode where you have a limited number of overlaps to use per level?

The tutorial menu option didn't seem to work for me, by the way. Was able to figure things out fine once in the game though.

Neat stuff overall!

The Last Flight by travislucia 2013-12-17T00:56:00

Pretty cool stuff! The graphics are nice, including the intro cutscene, the levels are solid and the way you implemented fuel made an extra challenge of trying to navigate in as few moves as possible. Nice touch with the screen shaking when landing.

I bumped into the bug where I would spawn in weird places on a few levels, but pressing the restart button reset it properly after a try or two in most cases.

Overall, well put together and nice little game.

You only jump once by dqmhose 2013-12-26T15:18:00

Cool idea and use of the theme and it works well. Didn't manage to complete the last couple of level though.

Nice, simple and good fun. Good job.

Distance by Edd Morgan 2013-12-24T17:18:00

This was cool. Fun sniping mechanic that was a nice use of the theme, good graphics, style, sound and atmosphere.

The dialogue after level 5 gave me a chuckle. :)

Only complaint would be that it could be difficult to see where the bullet was actually supposed to be hitting, particularly on the final level, so that could end up a little trial and error.

Good entry!

Lost In Transmission by mtrc 2013-12-24T17:45:00

This is really good! Nicely designed levels that make good use of your game mechanic, cute graphics, quality SPACE MUSIC and everything.

Very nice job.

Hrytz's Sunday by ezolotko 2013-12-24T18:15:00

Ha. This was surreal and I really liked it. Definitely nailed the Spectrum aesthetic, both in appearance and the strange, kind of inscrutable gameplay. Excellent atmosphere.

Managed to find all three endings. What a fine Sunday.

The Zombie Skull Seeking Bullet by aare 2013-12-18T20:07:00

This is very cool.

Good use of the theme (that bullet is the best friend you could hope for in a zombie apocalypse), lovely graphics (even without the legs) and solid gameplay. The bullet guiding mechanic felt really slick and fun.

I lasted almost 3 minutes and took 100 zombies to hell. :)

8bit Rebellion by havana24 2013-12-26T14:16:00

Extremely cool. The mix of photos for the 'real' objects and sprites for the game enemies is done really nicely. Gameplay is solid and a really clever idea implemented very well overall.

One Twisted Button by etabubu 2013-12-16T22:24:00

Really liked this! The idea was clever, the pixel graphics looked good. Would maybe like to see an instant restart button as I was keen to try again each time and the game made you wait a little each time.

I was caught out by an upper case 'I' I mistook for an 'l', the mouse buttons and those damn signs almost every time.

Good fun and one of my favourites so far.

Blueprint by Sim 2013-12-16T23:42:00

Original and very cool implementation of the theme!

Difficulty was a little harsh by putting you back to the first level after dying though. Solid music and graphics, good stuff overall.

Toast! by Ismei 2013-12-18T19:37:00

GOTY, all years.

I enjoyed the silly dialogue and the outcomes. I can vaguely believe the chocolate one is based on something that actually happened, knowing the husband.

Short and fun, nice job. :)

PS: Bananas are still the worst.

Casting Call by OnlySlightly 2013-12-17T00:43:00

I loved it! It was short but that was cool, replayed a bunch of times for different options after it made me laugh from the start.

Great dialogue, cute graphics, good idea for the theme, definitely a really nice little game.

Girl in pink was my favourite. :)

Single Dragon: You Owe N. Lee $1 by Tom 7 2013-12-24T18:29:00

This was really great! Funny, played pretty well, looked and sounded perfect.

Excellent job.

Loop Desert by Giovanni Cappellotto 2013-12-17T00:17:00

A nice piece of work! Graphics are gorgeous, love the pixel art and animation, the sense of scale and the time transitions are all very nicely done. Combined with the background sound it all creates a really great atmosphere.

Took me a few tries to figure out the game mechanic but made it to town eventually.

Really good job!

GASP by Nancybeast 2013-12-16T22:34:00

I liked the two stage idea where you perform the breathing (not the biggest fan of button mashing though :D) and you are creating your own time limit for second half of traveling through the level.

I think I need more button mashing practice though. And I couldn't help but go for the pill on level 3 each time. I got greedy.

Escape Of The Red Gem by 97PercentAwesome 2013-12-18T19:20:00

I liked your level design, it was fun making my way around the castle and there were some good little platforming segments. The guide dots were a nice touch.

Quite an odd jumping mechanic, I wasn't sure if I was using it right or sort of glitching it some of the time and the movement was maybe a little slow and floaty for my liking?

The way you used the sun in the background and the sky colour changing to show the day passing and the time limit coming up was cool too.

Budgetstorm 300 by srimech 2013-12-16T23:57:00

Ha ha, those damn bureaucrats and their budget cuts! I loved the explanation and their solution and then it actually worked really nicely gameplay wise too.

Simple graphics and sound but funny, solid and good fun to play. Nice job.

You Only Get 1UP by Thein 2013-12-17T01:02:00

A cool inversion of Mario, I like it! Graphics were nice, some solid bible quoting and enjoyed seeing the ways you turned coins into hazards. Good job.

Birdpeople by Sebby 2014-01-04T18:34:00

Really liked this! Cool idea with preparing for a trip and finding advice in the books for what to take.

Played simply but looked good and was a really nice little experience. Fine job!

One Minute Hero by Stals 2013-12-18T18:50:00

Very nicely done! I liked the mix between turn based (gameplay) and real-time (the time limit and skill recharge) which is something I don't think I've really seen before.

The graphics have a cool 'hand drawn on graph paper' kind of look which really works well.

It's definitely tricky and I think I only got to about level 19. Good game!

You Are The One by mystakin 2013-12-19T00:21:00

Wow, I loved this!

The two button system using the mouse was well implemented and controlled nicely, the graphics and sound were simple but effective and the way it switches between running and falling (including that one mid-level!) is very cool.

I managed to get all of the items and despite the trial and error nature of some of the levels, they were still well designed and fun to play. Difficulty and length were just right to be a good challenge.

Really good stuff!

Wilhelm's Escape by glovecat 2013-12-18T20:30:00

Oh, Wilhelm. I'm honestly surprised you made it to adulthood at this rate.

A very nicely put together game. I got quite a few different endings including opening the door but not making it out. I guess maybe it just wasn't meant to be. :)

Wall of Fingers by LTPATS 2013-12-16T22:53:00

Really liked the atmosphere. Had a great nightmarish quality to it that really worked with the graphics and frantic music.

Distracted Detective by veiadoida 2013-12-18T20:57:00

Really nice game. Gameplay unlike any of the other entries I've played, solid graphics and music, pretty cool use of the theme.

Only complaints would making the menu fade in faster so you can replay more quickly and give more feedback on the outcome so you don't have to rely on your changing rating to see if you succeeded.

Good stuff.

DISC-MAN by MMoffatt 2013-12-16T23:10:00

Idea's a good implementation of the theme and the disc is a super fun and punchy weapon to use. Nice thought putting the arrow in so you don't lose your disc.

Enemies can pop out and kill you without much notice which made things a bit too hard/sudden but otherwise solid stuff.

Rocks-n-Blaster by HuntTheWumpus 2013-12-17T00:26:00

A very nice little puzzle game and a good implementation of the theme.

You designed some nice levels with a bunch of variety between them. You also seemed to delight in dangling victory in front of the player before cruelly snatching it away. Good job! :)

Rainbbow Man by Eric 2013-12-16T23:28:00

I made it to the cake! Didn't think I was going to manage but a daring diagonal maneuver saw me across.

I imagine the slowdown was unintentional but it was still amusing to have everything get slow and tense whenever you started to move.

A neat little idea and well done on finishing the game.

Thanks, Mozart. Thozart.

$1 Hero by Microfrog 2013-12-17T00:06:00

This was pretty neat. I could imagine it being one of the little handhelds you styled it after.

I think you could start it off faster as the default speed is a bit slow.

The graphics are cute. The description for page up/down made me chuckle (yeah, I pressed them) and I like the fact you have the arrows in there that respond even though they don't do anything gameplay wise.

A nice little game!

You Only Get One Wish by Calciumtrice 2013-12-17T23:09:00

That one was actually intentional, as in "too cool 4 school", only written out fully. I think I actually messed up spelling "regretably" in there somewhere though!

I'll probably try to judge some more games tomorrow so I'll take a look at yours then. Thanks. :)

You Only Get One Wish by Calciumtrice 2013-12-18T16:48:00

I was aware as I was writing that I would need to draw a picture for each page and I had a time limit. More paths and particularly more variable setting and checking would have been cool, I agree, and probably have gone in if weren't for that.

Even with about a third of the pictures being very quick, last minute affairs, 34 pictures is a lot to draw in one day and I was working all the way up to the deadline. My drawing arm was very sore by the end!

A Stone's Throw by scoobyben 2013-12-16T23:20:00

Cool atmosphere, did a good job of capturing that feeling of scrambling about in the dark trying not to trip up.

Light Away by ajfischer 2013-12-16T23:53:00

Good core mechanic that was a nice implementation of the theme. Took me a while to figure out how it worked too but managed eventually.

Walls were a bit sticky and there was some flickering between tiles but the music was pleasant and the gameplay/puzzle worked well so I definitely enjoyed it overall.

Leapof-8 by chamberlainpi 2013-12-17T00:33:00

A fun little game. Nice graphics, particularly the animations with idling and all.

Finding all (or a bunch anyway) of the responses to everything you can do makes for a cool objective besides trying to hit the portal.

Sound would've been cool but definitely well put together and pretty damn fun!

At The Last Minute by Scrapworks 2014-01-04T17:57:00

This played nicely, had great looking graphics and sounded good!

Definitely difficult, seems like it might've been fairer to have the timer restart to its value when you first started the level. The jumping also felt a little sticky at some points but a really good job overall.

One Wish by miwuc 2013-12-18T18:36:00

This was cool. Good use of the theme (we shall be WISH BROS/SIBLINGS) and I enjoyed the different ways the wishes could bump happiness up and down with both straight forward and ironic twist style results.

Nice happy ending of course. Also, any game where you can turn someone into a whale gets my automatic seal of approval.

Star Chase by David Colson 2013-12-16T23:36:00

This played really well. Loved the swishy ship controls and the trails gave it really nice visuals.

I found patience paid off in the end and I took that traitor down. I look forward to my reward from the Grand Nagus.

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Connecting LD30 to the Real World by Will Edwards 2014-08-29T13:05:00

This is a very clever interpretation of the theme and does a nice job of implementing and game-ifying it. I like it!

One Ship Two Ship Redshift Blueshift by 01010111 2014-08-25T18:34:00

Hey, this is really good. The movement, the music, the mechanics, the artwork, the bounce of the animation, all fantastic. Nice aesthetic with the colour palette too.

As others have said, very impressive for the 48 hours and great work altogether!

Curmudgeon: The Quest For Spicy Booty by drstik 2014-08-25T02:48:00

Oh man, this was sweet as heck. I only had cinnamon left to find when the last of my crew starved to death. I had no gold either when it happened (damn buccaneers). I fear I may not be a very good captain.

Amusing writing, good options, cheerful graphics, really great overall. The choices reminded me of FTL. :)

Your world! by Julgodis 2014-08-25T22:23:00

Fun little tower defense style game. I liked your background graphics like the tree especially and the ent's animation made me chuckle.

Good stuff. :)

Unto Her As She To You by Calahagus 2014-08-25T15:04:00

Good puzzle game with a nice aesthetic and surrounding biz. Cool.

Took me quite a while but I finished it successfully eventually.

The Veiled World by panurge 2014-08-25T11:58:00

Nice pixel art, funny descriptions and sweet sound. Good work! :)

Mathwiz by greysphere 2014-08-25T03:18:00

Wow, this is really great. It took me a play or two to totally grasp the mechanics but it's incredibly clever. Very slickly implemented and a really great idea. You did a fantastic job.

NEVER TRUST A WIZARD.

Neon Highway by francoisvn 2014-08-25T22:51:00

A cool idea, implemented well. Good aesthetic, nice sound, simple but fun gameplay.

A really nice game. Well done!

Universe of Color by Elforama 2014-08-25T23:03:00

A pleasant little experience. :)

Other Side by Raphy 2014-08-26T17:29:00

Lovely artwork, sound and atmosphere. Managed to solve the stones after the first night.

Nice job.

Connected Worlds by WesleyJohnson 2014-08-25T03:30:00

This is cool. It has a solid game mechanic that fits the theme nicely and some good levels to use it.

A couple of the jumps were a little bit of a stretch to make and it was difficult to hop back out of the water after falling in.

A good game!

The Tree by Calciumtrice 2014-08-25T05:02:00

WesleyJohnson, the ability you get from the earth boss is actually a healing power. It'll only do anything if you're not already on full health which you would have been as you receive a full heal up on beating a boss.

The Tree by Calciumtrice 2014-08-27T07:35:00

For anyone interested, I'd actually just finished up a game I was able to spend a bunch more time on the day before Ludum Dare started:

http://calciumtrice.tumblr.com/post/95493081248/freelance-archeology

Danger Zones by skullum 2014-08-25T11:29:00

Nice game. It has a good mechanic in the level switching and some neat little puzzles.

The gauntlet type level was a fun challenge at the end, does it go on indefinitely?

Negative Space by ClutchNachos 2014-08-25T04:41:00

A neat little puzzle game with solid levels and a fine use of the theme.

Taxi Space by DrCicero 2014-08-25T03:54:00

Fun game. Played nicely, was amusing and the story kept it fun to play through to its conclusion.

Think I spent more time looking at the mini-map than the actual world while traveling as it had the most useful info available.

The Hoverator by Viza 2014-08-25T11:12:00

The bike is really nice to control and was fun to drive through the level. Good stuff. :)

This Little Piggy... by InfectionTeam 2014-08-29T13:13:00

This is brilliant.

Looks and sounds great, funny switcheroo, just excellent. Very nice job.

Alternation by PowerSpark 2014-08-25T04:33:00

Cool puzzle game. Mechanic works well and the levels let you make good use of it. Nice use of theme too.

Warp Pong by Reisn 2014-08-25T03:34:00

A cool take on Pong I've never seen before. On theme, a clever mechanic and it plays well. Nice.

6 Dimensions by Fanttum 2014-08-25T22:59:00

This is neat. A simple idea that works nicely and when I wondered if more stuff would be introduced, the next level would have dangers or keys, which was nice and mixed things up.

On the key requiring level, I encountered a bit of a problem by accidentally moving one of my characters into the exit before they'd picked up a key for the others. I couldn't get them out again or find a restart level key so I ended up stopping there.

Mage's Tower by marudziik 2014-08-29T13:35:00

What you've got here is really neat. I like the writing and some parts made me chuckle (Yes, YOUR POCKETS). The addition of the pictures is a nice extra incentive to see everything.

My only suggestion for what's already here would be to make it more likely to take you to the worlds before revisiting ones you've already seen, maybe, as it took a lot of tries with the randomiser to get all nine.

Good stuff. :)

Flip Flop by kyyrma 2014-08-25T18:54:00

This is really good. Feels like an old 8 bit game, as was probably intended. Plays really well with some nice little puzzles, cute graphics and sound.

Well done!

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Tamamystery by Jezzamon 2015-12-17T18:05:00

Oh man, this is absolutely brilliant.

Surprising, funny, cute, just great. I loved the chase sequence at the end!

Pretty easily my favourite ld34 game so far!

Concrete Jungle by Miltage 2015-12-19T17:11:00

This is just great!

The core mechanic works really well and is nice and satisfying but all the little extra touches really make it special.

The time-lapse effects are a clever way of implying the growing time, the jaunty music is a great accompaniment and when I was about to stop to come rate the game, I found that it had an sweet ending that was the icing on the cake.

One of the best I've played this ludum dare, for sure. Excellent job! :)

Space Research Team by pinion 2015-12-14T23:08:00

A clever mechanic with a good difficulty curve. The mixed colours at the end were a nice piece of escalation.

When playing co-op, had good fun when you both tried to do a shared colour without consulting your partner and got in each other's way.

The little flavour text was cute and funny. Having different backgrounds for each section gave a nice sense that you were progressing.

GOOD STUFF, FRIEND.

Chaintanks by ProjectX593 2015-12-17T17:52:00

This is a really fun shooter! Kind of a heavily armed take on Snake. I like how well it scales up and gets really intense.

I got upset when my tank boys got cut off from the chain. Apparently it was 28 at its longest.

Nice job. :)

Breathe by Galvesmash 2015-12-19T16:49:00

Very nice audio and visual design, the aesthetic works really well.

qBen by smealum 2015-12-14T23:37:00

Very nicely implemented aesthetic, quite mesmerizing. :)

Did you base the window size on the resolution of the current monitors/display, by the way? My game window was too tall for a single monitor and I wonder if that's cause I have my two monitors aligned top to bottom? Maybe something to watch out for if so.

Anyway, pleasant stuff!

Metaforski! by _stice 2015-12-19T16:08:00

Simple but effective. The randomly picked explanations at the start were amusing.

A possible suggestion would to be to have the player at the bottom of the screen rather than the middle so you have a bit more time to process what's coming up. That might reduce the difficulty level you were going for though. :)

A nice little Audiosurf-alike though, good job.

Continuous rebind by lkpridgeon 2015-12-19T16:25:00

A very clever take on the two button theme, I like it.

Robot Boxing by Green Lightning 2015-12-19T17:04:00

A cool, two button game. Nice oomph to hitting the obstacles and was fun to play.

Good job. :)

Eda by alpha_rats 2015-12-19T16:56:00

A pleasant, calm little experience with a very nice aesthetic.

Good job. :)

Watch out for the green stuff! by wehard 2015-12-14T23:13:00

A nicely implemented endless swimmer. The hand drawn style graphics are cute.

I think you can avoid all the danger by swimming to the top of the screen and staying up there. A high flying fish is a safe fish. :)

Anyway, pleasant stuff!

Jelly Pop by bjorn 2015-12-19T16:13:00

This is cool. Nice and smooth and relaxing.

Interview at Incredible Inc by EvanEGibbs 2015-12-17T17:43:00

This is really cute. Adorable graphics and voices for the characters, timed system for the questions worked perfectly. All good stuff.

I repeatedly didn't get the job. Could maybe also have a bit of an easy mode option where you can skip back to the most recent interview you got to before?

Cool game. :)

[JJJ] - Jolly Jail Jumper by AwesomeAlliterationAlliance 2015-12-27T17:48:00

This is fantastically well put together Ludum Dare entry. The presentation from the animation to the music are really smooth and effective.

The game play idea of switching between outfits is cute and the hazards' colour coding is a simple and clear way to tell you when you need to be doing. Movement works really well too.

My only real criticism would be that the difficulty ramped up too quickly and the game might be benefited from checkpoints or maybe a slower speed difficulty (which it looks like you implemented in the post mortem version).

An excellent entry with a lot of character, you should be proud of yourselves. Well done!

Bouncing Knight by Multiplexor 2015-12-19T16:37:00

This is great! A simple but well implemented mechanic, a nice little world to explore and complete and having upgrades was a nice extra.

Very cute and well put together, good job!

(I feel like my time playing VVVVVV helped prepare me for this quest. :D)

SpaceSnake by rplnt 2015-12-19T16:22:00

A nicely implemented take on Snake. Looks and feels good to play.

Feedback wise, it's a little unclear where on the end of your trail it becomes 'solid' as it fades out so it can be hard to judge where it's safe to cross. That might impact the nice look the trail has though were it to be changed.

Anyway, pleasant stuff. Nice job. :)

Jumping World Burns by mrjorts 2015-12-14T22:20:00

Good use of the theme, having multiple abilities but all still activated by the two keys. You explained and introduced them all clearly through the game which was a plus.

I thought you did a really nice job having different mixes of the abilities across the levels and making puzzles out of them. Things like having the double/air jump but no regular jump were a clever twist.

I felt like there was a bit of an issue with the character losing momentum when trying to move through the air sometimes so if you were to come to this, I'd suggest taking a look at making the controls a little tighter.

Good stuff, well done! :)

sometimes cubs grow by sergicollado 2015-12-14T23:25:00

The clean, abstract aesthetic works really nicely and the game has a cool mood to it all.

Good stuff!

The Almighty Spectrum by KoalaBot 2015-12-14T22:45:00

The change to colour after winning a level is very charming and cute.

Choices by thirteenthspiral 2015-12-14T23:00:00

Amusing writing, it made me smile. :)

"You're just another Phil!"

Kill 'Mall by kepons 2015-12-14T22:50:00

I did not become the biggest snake but I was very rude so I'm counting it as a win.

This is good stuff, nice graphics, solid gameplay and use of both themes.

Well done. :)

Grow a Beard! by martin-denizet 2015-12-27T21:35:00

This is cute and definitely got a smile from me. Handsome Dave was proud to be my coach, apparently. I think the barber dodging game was probably my favourite.

Good job. :)

Vavyorki by Ludum34 2015-12-14T22:30:00

The squirrels are cute and the game has a very nice aesthetic.

Your core gameplay mechanic is a cool idea and use of the two button theme. I think emphasizing more of a failure state or penalty if your squirrels get too separated (or one fell below the bottom of the screen, I think that was what I was to avoid having happen?) would give more satisfaction to doing well.

Cool cool.

Flowering Souls by Lullaby 2015-12-27T16:49:00

A pleasant experience with a nice atmosphere and really cool graphics and sound design.

I was not a very good soul parent though. :)

Good stuff, well done!

Strong Like Orc by SpareWizard 2015-12-19T16:44:00

A neat take on an endless runner. Nice amount of control through the double jump and jumping while/after dashing. As I think some others have mentioned, the crates have a really satisfying way of smashing.

I'd say you've done Uncle Grosh proud.

Dude On Fire by voca 2015-12-19T17:01:00

This is cute! I found the difficulty far too high on account of only being able to see a really short distance in front of the character though.

Looks really nice, the character design and animation are really cute and with some tweaks to the difficulty/play-ability, would be a fun little game.
