LD33 — You are the Monster

Gorgon Zoë by berkano 2015-09-03T06:05:00

I am a sucker for leveling systems though, and really cute, lighthearted music!

I got to level 7, but then I got into a stalemate with some level 9s while trapped against a wall. Whoops!

Transforming is also awesome, because I was able to scope out easier enemies as a human (but then I mostly ran around as a monster anyway... which eventually led me to the aforementioned scenario). I had fun though. Nice job!

Welcome to Cronenburg by Galan 2015-08-27T18:01:00

I somehow managed to get stuck inside a Cronenberg (the tall one). What was it doing to me? The answer is don't think about it.

Cute music and character, makes the game humorous! Nice job with all the modeling, and physics-based destruction is always fun. Cool game!

Unawere by Mythalore 2015-08-25T05:48:00

The camera needs to keep up with me a little better. It's like the top of the screen is holding me back! Felt great to transform and rage some faces though. Neat game!

Monster Pizza by dalbinblue 2015-08-24T02:56:00

Very cute art and music! I loved the idea of a giant dino trying to not-so-gingerly deliver pizzas.

My only complaint is that sometimes the delivery areas are kind of hard to see (but that could just be me needing bright flashing colors).

But overall very well done! I would have liked to deliver more pizzas, but... well, the city isn't going to destroy itself! I'm apparently just a natural at it.

Rampage by JPatrick 2015-09-03T06:15:00

Oh man, so many people to mass murder--awesome! Would be immensely more satisfying if you got to add the sounds, but as it is, I had good fun seeing a bunch of people spew into red pixels at once. Well done! :)

SPIKE LEG ED DEMO by magicdweedoo 2015-08-27T09:07:00

My favorites were the purple shirt guys. They look like they're doing something reminiscent of some good ol' Charlie Brown dancing, haha!

Very satisfying game, especially when the red bombs go off! Nice job!

Baby Cakes by PeteGrammarman 2015-09-07T19:31:00

Won all the levels on the first try. Went and purposely threw a wrong kid into the cake afterwards to make sure it was possible to lose--and it was! Well done on providing such helpful clues, while also making the player have to really observe closely to win.

Sometimes the target had fairly obvious dialog that indicated it was their birthday. Depending on people's luck, they might not even have to familiarize themselves with the concept of paying attention to physical features before reaching the last level.

Really unique concept, cute art, and angry moms are absolutely terrifying, haha! Really well done!

Monster Slayer by Pheonise 2015-08-24T22:55:00

Ragdolls make everything better!

Also, still trying to move after I die makes a hilarious bug. The blue guy seems to disappear into the ground, so everybody else has no idea what to crowd around, and they end up merging into a single green mass somewhere off in the distance.

Axing everyone down quite entertaining!

Nombeast Jr. by Joror 2015-09-07T20:03:00

The nombeasts are pretty cute!

This felt like the kind of game where movement could be controlled with the mouse (player moves in direction of the cursor, like agar.io), but the WASD scheme adds some unique challenge to it, and it's easy enough to get used to.

Birds are super hard to catch (if I can?). I was never too sure if I was the right elevation to do so. But perhaps this is also my fault for not being an expert at the controls, haha.

Sometimes I felt like I was kind of getting snagged on the edges of the village islands too.

Quite relaxing to play with no real urgency other than the gas meter. Good job overall!

DestroyItAll by Infernal 2015-09-07T20:30:00

I destroyed it all! My hand is tired now. I actually didn't have to move much though, since my monster reach seems to be infinite!

Just gotta pile in the sound effects, camera shake, particles and smoke, and you're good to go, haha! :P

Good job for your first Unityventure! Hope to see this developed further!

Primary objective by Aurel Bílý 2015-08-25T23:44:00

Graphics were well done, and the corrupted text effects were super cool!

Music is fitting for the atmosphere, and refreshing. Something about it reminded me of Earthbound! (love that game)

My one gripe is that sometimes I ended up queuing up too much dialog (my bad, I just like to click on everything), so I have to wait for it to all pass before it will execute another action for me.

But really great job on this one! I had to see all the endings. Somehow it's creepier to get the red jar before plugging in the green one... Got totally locked up inside the console room! AHHH

Something deep by General 2015-08-25T07:24:00

I wanted to play with all the tentacles and try for a red submarine that was just coming onto the screen, but the game suddenly ended when I got the last tentacle. Darnit!

Super fun though, and the little comments that give hints about the gameplay were also entertaining to read, as well as useful. Solid controls, delicious sounds, smooth graphics. Very well done!

On the Growth of Ludum Dare and the Selection of Themes by Crowbeak 2015-08-25T08:42:00

Funny and yet insightful! Especially since I'm new to Ludum Dare, this helped me learn more about its history. The emoticons did their jobs very well--very creative! Glad I played this. Thanks!

Childhood Monsters by camthestar 2015-08-24T03:31:00

The evil laugh was great, even though I can't rate yours for the audio.

One can only wonder where all those children go after I touch them... My belly? The waking world? The deepest, darkest pits of Mexico? A white van? Some mysteries might never be solved.

People Muncher by AxeTheory 2015-09-06T03:44:00

Awesome camera shake and explosions, and who doesn't like eating a bunch of people? Good fun! The controls are intuitive and easy to pick up, and it's so satisfying to shake things and fling cars with extreme force. Only the audio felt unpolished, but who has time for that in a compo anyway, right? Haha. Great game!

They Want Your World by Kalkatos 2015-08-25T04:20:00

I thought the mechanic of flying between worlds was really cool! Awesome dragon! I wish it wasn't so easy to kill myself by flying around though. :P

Monster is a Mommy by pansapiens 2015-08-27T08:56:00

Haha, I love the faces. Being a motherdactyl sure is hard work though!

Life as a monster inside a human by mat1er 2015-09-07T20:54:00

Sad story. Thank you for sharing this, and I hope things will get better in the future!

The Monster I Am by KilledByAPixel 2015-09-10T02:09:00

Nice building destruction simulator! The graphics style was also simplistic yet quite moody. Lots of nice particle effects too.

It felt a little unnatural how I'd sometimes launch into the air if I was climbing too fast. Monster needs more weight! But overall I liked it. Well done game!

Foul Monster by BPO_Jeff 2015-08-27T07:02:00

I somehow kept forgetting that I could jump, and was pretty much only chomping and dashing. So I ended up getting grounded--quite literally!

http://i.imgur.com/3kcTxIW.png

I think it happens when I spam dashing attacks near the edge of the screen? Maybe chomping? I'm not 100% sure.

Soon after that was the point where I remembered I could jump, only after seeing all those "JUMP INCREASE" things on the edge of my tunnel vision. So then I spammed jump a lot on the next level, and was able to go super high, like, way-off-screen-for-a-few-seconds high! It didn't seem intentional, so I thought I had maybe broken something unintentionally.

And then after I killed the last of the people by jumping, I was not advanced to the next level. So then I thought I had broken something else again.

So then I figured I'd let myself starve to death and end it that way. The bar reached zero... and then refilled itself. I then thought, maybe it's just doing the reverse of what was happening while I was eating stuff earlier (as in, when I'd keep eating after the hunger bar was full, the bar would then suddenly jump down to 1/3rd or so... but was that actually a glitch too?!).

Figuring that I probably had like 200 stomachs to go through, I put the game out of its misery and cut off its life support.

I'm sorry I broke your game so bad! Sometimes it feels like a curse. But the art is great, the moves feel smooth, satisfying crunching, and overall really fun (and funny) game! Stellar job!

FéesVSMonstres by van noctar 2015-08-29T06:36:00

Simple enough to understand even though I can't read French. I felt a little misled how not all of the paths were used. Fantastical music loop, cool monster sprites. Green dragon is my fave!

The Wrath of Gandhi by greysphere 2015-08-24T22:24:00

Oh man, this is the kind of game that I just want to see everything expand and grow. Loved the juxtaposition of Ghandi and violent explosions!

Teenage Monster by dpisarcik 2015-08-29T07:38:00

I had the hardest time keeping my hair under control. After some point, I was able to talk to "Luna" anywhere. Luna would respond even when I was trying to talk to someone else. I suspect something got stuck but I'm not sure how.

Dialog was pretty funny before that happened, and music is pretty catchy. Nice job!

Sirens by miotatsu 2015-08-25T05:26:00

Becomes really easy once you get too many sirens! If I put a siren in any of the bottom two locations, they are at risk of immediate death due to no rocks being between them and the bottom edge of the screen.

It's quite satisfying to lure seamen to their doom with my hawt naked siren bodies. And voices. Simply irresistible.

ahahahaha boobies

The Trial of Tyrone Rex by Manky 2015-08-27T07:57:00

BEST

Face Puncher by chunkybrewster 2015-08-24T02:40:00

Man, how do these people keep cutting in line? I'd say they're the monsters! Is there no such thing as common courtesy here? :P

I was hoping I could use my right hand to punch as well, but I'm now just imagining that it's there to hold the people in place while I punch them in the face, hehe.

The game is simple but oddly satisfying. Mindless punching always makes a great stress reliever!

Ghost Academy by jorgemoag 2015-08-24T23:36:00

I cheated on the first test by floating past the edge of the platform. I could not beat the third test (I keep messing up at 20-30 seconds remaining). These tests of reflex and prediction were pretty fun, the feel of the game is quite lighthearted as well. Nicely done!

The Congress of Monsterdom by Artylo 2015-09-09T05:43:00

I like the style of the graphics, and exploding the missiles makes the most satisfying sound!

The game gets really hard for me by level 10 or 11. Is it even possible to get to level 30 (or 15, even) in the post-patch version, or do I just suck? :P

Overall, the game is pretty fun. Humorous little titles too! I enjoyed it. Well done!

Cave Lord by sbarrio 2015-08-31T21:05:00

Sweet, Earthbound font! Nicely inspired battle system too! ;)

Some nitpicks:
I feel like Heal should be stronger for its cost of a turn and 5 MP. As it is, it typically heals little more than the damage the monster can deal, so if you're almost dead and choose to heal, you've also given the monster another turn to hit you and put you back right where you were the previous round, thus perpetuating an unfruitful MP-draining cycle. It is almost always better to take the chance and go for the attack, and hope to RNGesus that it hits and that you level up after the battle for the free full heal.

Defend also doesn't seem to reduce damage taken at all. (bug?)

Because of these, I kind of neglected Defend and Heal, and ended up powering through the game purely on Fight and Tech instead (using each once per round would typically suffice for the harder enemies).

The game seems somewhat luck based, depending on how much the monsters actually attack, but the battle messages were pretty humorous. Love the quirkiness here, and the sprites are cool. Nice job!

CthulhTunes by DaleP 2015-09-02T07:47:00

Love the smooth wiggling of the tentacles. The contrast between the two instruments was great and created a mildly haunting ambiance.

Also nice hinting at what note is supposed to be played by angling the flute towards it! It was quite satisfying to finally turn the tables and make the mortal follow me instead, haha. Very clean game. Well done!

Being a Kraken by struffy 2015-09-04T03:04:00

Of the post-comp builds, the non-Oculus version crashes for me whenever a ship fires. However, the Oculus version works fine (even though I don't have an Oculus Rift).

I tend to get a little disoriented whenever I hit a ship, but in some cases it also helps me to feel like I've flipped upside down and am pulling the ship down with me.

This game totally needs tentacles... I was kinda hoping I could lash out from underwater and grab the ships, haha! But bumping into them works too, especially with such limited time! Nice job. :)

Grunx by SamH 2015-08-27T09:39:00

Great art and pretty catchy beat! Wish you could have finished!

Creature Power by Empyrealhell 2015-08-25T00:00:00

Hahaha, I could barely wrap my mind around the controls. I think you achieved your purpose very well. I spent a lot of the time trapped up against the edge, but otherwise rolling right in and spraying monster juice everywhere is a hilarious concept. Not to mention the grade A acapella! Well done!

Daniel X Moore Presents: Dungeon of Sadness [LEGENDS] by Daniel X. Moore 2015-08-24T21:59:00

I love how even a 12-year-old kid must die in order for me to become an adventurer. Quite entertaining to watch all the unfortunate events unfold!

One of Us by radethdart 2015-08-25T01:32:00

I played until it didn't let me anymore (or maybe I accidentally hit Esc?). I think I got the castle like halfaway down? Cooldowns could probably be shorter, and walking could probably be faster. Cute music (I heard the Pokemon music!), cute graphics, cute audio. Werewolf and the ballet dancing ogre are the best!

Mobs, Inc. by Pietro Ferrantelli 2015-09-14T21:02:00

Really satisfying to play, fabulous art, lots of fun! SO JUICED!

Gelan's Quest by rnlf 2015-09-04T02:25:00

Music, dialog, and the static/desaturation effects did well to set the mood. Riveting writing. Amazing job, especially for a compo!

Hungry Monster by tGiant 2015-08-27T09:16:00

Good idea with the limited shots! Really helps to discourage just spam shooting all the time. I kind of wanted to shoot up at the planes too though. Neat game!

Evil Ghost chasing by Benlitz 2015-09-04T02:43:00

Haha, great title. The game feels simple, but you had an idea and you executed it. All this could use would maybe be some juicing up and polish I guess, but that's extra, and this is also just compo anyway! Taking the gameplay itself further might require getting a little more creative. The original Pacman game was pretty simple, after all.

Pacman does a good job of trying to avoid me, even turning 180 degrees around like a real player would! He only loses when he tries to outrun me!

Nice job! :)

Litch Defence by sirikan 2015-08-25T10:00:00

I can't seem to replace my killed swordsmen. The barracks rooms have cogs and a Buy button, but it doesn't look like it does anything. On the other hand, I seem to be able to buy infinite wizards for free.... NOT COMPLAINING.

The lich looks schweet and you've got some sick beats going on! Nice job!

YOUR ROAR by fermenter 2015-09-04T04:01:00

Such delicate and addicting sound effects. Also loving the simple but effective style. Really innovative idea. Awesome job!

Area 50 by misterwalter 2015-08-24T04:47:00

Somehow very calming. You beat me to the screensaver comment, haha! It's cool how each monster has its own way of moving. At times, it'd take me a sec to realize which one I'm controlling.

Now if only there were a way to attack that gun up there...

Salvie by Teesquared 2015-08-29T07:10:00

Simple but haunting. The looping black and white images along with the music was quite effective for setting the mood, and the story was mysterious but a page turner (a gamestate tapper?).

This is pretty dang great. Excellent job!

The Banana Eater by Dizzyman572 2015-08-24T03:50:00

You have the voice of a thousand angels. I had a good laugh as soon as I hit the title screen! The art is simple but unified. I think it works really well, especially to help the golden bananas stand out.

And at the end, F to fart? Boy, I'll have you know that many have outgrown that s- TEN OUTTA TENNN

Corrupt Ground by LukeZaz 2015-08-27T07:39:00

I played 1-player mode with the incomplete AI, but the tile/corruption system seems pretty solid! Nicely done, hope you get to finish this!

Lying in Wait by whalebot 2015-08-24T06:14:00

I got to the end! Seems like head-to-pillar and keeping the lights on is the way to go! Unfortunately, I accidentally skipped the credits by pressing space again...

If I had to nitpick one thing, it's when the red square appears too far on the left, where it's humanly impossible to react to it in time (other than waiting for the yellow bar to go all the way right, and back)... But I think it also fits--it helps to elicit emotions that make me feel just like the monster!

Art, music, concept--everything's great! Very well done!

Mazeotaur by Killbert 2015-09-09T06:24:00

Awesome Minotaur, and unique control scheme!

I wish there was a way to see the in-game models better. I think I can see some detail on the victims, but the work you put into it is really hard to see from the top-down view.

Sometimes the lighting seems to flip out, like the red light spreads really far and/or flickers.

The first time I played, I had a kind of scrunched-up zig-zagging area in the top right. The Minotaur could barely squeeze through the corridors, and I eventually popped out of the map, haha. Must have been some kind of bug with the map generation that one time, because the rest of the times I tried, the map seemed pretty consistent and didn't have an area like that. I don't know what I did!

Despite a few bugs, cool game! Hope you develop this further! :)

Empowered Darkness by Goutye 2015-08-25T04:33:00

I felt a little conflicted where I WOULD like to kill the heroes and get money, but I also have to let them kill me if I want to see what the other floors are like. I don't think I ever managed to kill the hero on the first floor though...

I like the idea of seeing the other floors below you. Wonderful voice and hero names. Really cool game!

Monster VS Tanks by wilpel1234 2015-09-09T06:49:00

I went several levels beyond level 10 (upgraded speed to at least be able to move between bullets, faster shooting when stuff died too slow, and upgrading/refilling health as needed). Feels good to be overpowered! But then I broke it...

I had to stop when I had "upgraded" my shooting speed to -1, at which point I was no longer firing at insane speeds, but instead was only able to shoot one fireball and no more.

Also, some purchase prices seemed inconsistent with what they actually took from my money. Like, I'd have a little less than the required amount for a $1125 upgrade, but attempting to buy the upgrade still went through, and I'd still have a couple hundred bucks leftover.

Cool, fun game! Love the little legs on the monster, and the "encouraging" words from the scientist dude were also pretty humorous. :)

Virion Alpha by Bloodyaugust 2015-08-25T07:52:00

I think it'd be cool to be able to redirect leftover virions to a new target if their current target gets infected before they reach it, as opposed to them just wiggling around aimlessly. But then again, maybe it's part of the game to watch how many virions you actually need to send over... :P

There's something great about seeing lots of little things taking down bigger and bigger things. Turning the final boss's friends against him and mass firing everything at once, he didn't stand a chance! Hehe. Well done!

Of Glorious Nation by Xinelu 2015-08-25T03:37:00

I seem to be hitting invisible walls in the reconquer portion, so I can't get to any enemy tanks. Really nice RTS controls though!

The Truth by HolyBlackCat 2015-09-05T07:18:00

Wow, this was great! Heck of a lot of work for a compo entry.

I tried to use my gun multiple times at the end, but this was apparently not allowed due to plot device. I truly am a monster for letting them live, huh?

Fantastic music, art, story, and mood. Well done!

People's Mandatory Video Entertainment by Nurbs 2015-09-04T03:48:00

The Nanaca-crash-esque part was too short, haha! Nice choice of music. I spent a good time walking around for Bubsy, the lost capsules wedged in the terrain, and the "please do not ploish" block.

I think the tomato turret should make a sound for when it fires, and perhaps be movable, because sometimes it feels like the grass grows in such a way that I think it prevents the turret from seeing/shooting capsultalists? Not sure. For as long as the thing takes to grow, it's unfortunate when it turns out to be in a bad spot!

And also a sound for when a capsultalist gets shot. And dies. And perhaps also for whenever they are really close to you. Sometimes I swear they materialize out of nowhere. But only when I have cake. Those greedy ****ers. I GROW THIS POO-FLAVOR CAKE, IS MINE

I probably played this way longer than I should have. Hilarious game!

Mission by handkor 2015-09-09T04:05:00

Unique concept, cool texture, and nice clean audio!

I once had them down to low stress levels, but then couldn't resist suddenly jumping into the pool of drinking aliens. (INSTANT 100% HIGH STRESS, and I only half regret it!)

Then in order to finish the job, I busied myself with kicking berries around, into the pool, at the aliens, etc. Makeshift soccer, haha!

There should also be a lose condition. Like, on my first run, I killed all the aliens in their own home, but nothing happened, so I had to ESC/try again manually. I think there is an opportunity for a humorous voice clip there. :)

Their screams of terror were also pretty funny. Great job!

Player Rush by Hot Box Games 2015-09-09T03:18:00

Beautiful art, the controls feel solid--everything feels great! Amaaaaaazing.

I found that it's easy to just kind of dilly-dally-dawdle around and drive my time score up if there are only one or two guys left that are easy to avoid. Perhaps there should be some way to limit the time you can spend on any given wave to deter excessive stalling.

Also walls are easily exploitable, but that should be fixed with the future pathfinding AI, right? Haha.
http://i.imgur.com/KOusNPh.png

Fun and satisfying game. I loved all the names too. Awesome job you guys!

Is It In You? by imdigitaljim 2015-08-25T00:48:00

I feel like I'm shooting bullets from my forehead, haha. I like all the detail you've put throughout the city. Hide-and-seek, but with a murderous twist! :)

Jungle Blitz by fauge 2015-09-02T06:46:00

This game looks like it has potential for with the custom maps! Need more mechanics to play with, but it's a great start!

Neverending Forest of Beasts by dosmaen 2015-08-25T00:34:00

So this is where all the lost packages go! I see no other explanation for why there are boxes lying around in a mystical forest! :P

I fairly enjoyed hopping around as a cute little killer bunny, and I've always loved running around opening treasure chests in RPGs. Well done your first Ludum Dare!

Dreamcatchers by Indiestry 2015-08-27T08:46:00

I have no idea where the first photographers go after they fade into the fog. How do they get away so fast!? When the level restarts due to a witness escaping, the initial screens of text appear upside-down/reversed and dimmed. Totally weird!

The charging sound is a little grating compared to the calm background music, but I like the style of the game. Very cool!

The Smell of Fear by Reecer9714 2015-08-24T05:22:00

Really cool idea, and looks really neat as well! Sometimes I feel like I'm walking really slowly, maybe when there are a lot of the red dots onscreen(?), but it might be my imagination. I might just be unaware of how slow I'm *actually* going the other 98% of the time! :P

I was once moving downward with 5/8 to go at 4:59am (I know I suck... wandering mostly-blindly in the dark is hard!), when I suddenly got an error. Am I just unlucky? Anyway, this is what it threw at me if it can be of any use:

Who's The Monster by wellingtonbecker 2015-09-10T02:38:00

Just like everyone else, I loved the part where everything flipped around. Helped to add some freshness and excitement. Quite innovative! :)

But beyond that, it could probably use some increase in difficulty or variety over time (but psh, who has time for that in a compo entry, right? Haha! You're excused.)

For me, the score text was a little misaligned on the game over screen.

I can't help but hear the title in a talking-to-a-baby voice. Like... "Who's the monster? Whoooo's the monster? You're the monster! That's right, you're the monsterwoobagoobagoogoo." And to top it off, you're this cute round, chubby, vibrant pink monster. Pretty funny!

Overall, great job! I got 103 points!

Redemption by Mikhail 2015-08-25T06:02:00

Ryusui beat me to it. The minimap became very valuable once the horizontal scrolling stopped working! I feel a little overpowered with a omni-directional spammable attack, but pfft I'm not complaining. Feels good, man.

Redemption by Mikhail 2015-08-25T18:35:00

I thought I was just playing the game pretty naturally, so I went back and I think I found it.

I reproduced the bug by finishing a level up against the edge of the map, where scrolling stops anyway. Scrolling will still be stuck in the next level I visit. Finishing on the far left or far right freezes it horizontally, and finishing on the very top or bottom freezes it vertically. The effects can stack too. :)

Sakeo by Krunoslav 2015-09-12T07:55:00

Cool unique idea, and very clean art!

Could be helpful to have some kind of indicator of how many more hits you and your minions can take before dying, if that's how it works, anyway. Is it just luck? It's hard to tell.

Sometimes it feels a little too hard to find the tiny humans. There are quite a few dull moments where I am just wandering aimlessly looking for easy battles.

But overall good job! I like the style and it's quite satisfying when you get another person on your side.

Guardian monster by albinobat 2015-09-02T08:01:00

Cute monster and shooting sounds! Sometimes I would get like 10 seconds of nothing happening, and then a bunch of them all swarm (slowly) in at once. Slightly mean, but it breaks up the repetition a little! I let myself die at 93 points or so.

The enemy sprites/animations were also pretty awesome. Nice job. :)

KRAGZHOR by UrbanHelsing 2015-09-10T03:10:00

Muthafudgin' badazz monstuh! Slick animation too! Feels so satisfying to bowl a rock into dozens of people.

Not much to complain about here. Perhaps a proper ending of sorts when reaching the top. Might also have been cool if I could pick up two rocks--one in each hand--and throw them both at the same time, haha!

The vignette and music add to the mood. Good fun. Great game. Awesome job!

Room Chaos Monster by Demy 2015-09-10T02:24:00

Pretty simple game, and easy to understand!

Sometimes I have trouble moving around in the bonus level. I think I'm getting trapped beside or inside objects or something. It might happen when an object falls or is falling on top of me? Or maybe I'm just getting stuck on a nearby object that hasn't despawned yet? I'm not too sure exactly.

Fairly humorous dialog as well. Nice job overall!

Monster can-can by nassi 2015-08-27T18:29:00

Creative interpretation of "Monster", and I have a soft spot for button mashing. Simple but it works! Me likey!

Sewer Glue by Damdoshi 2015-09-08T05:17:00

Cool pixel effects!

The game gets long and hard when you have to eat a certain type of person, but at the same time there are also many incorrect people walking around. The target type rarely passes over you alone, thus making it easy to grab the wrong type at the same time as the target, and also making it easy to kill yourself in doing so. Unless you're prepared to wait around for the perfect moment, that is... but I was impatient, haha!

Nice detailed pixel art, unique concept, and pretty fun! Hope you add in those sound effects sometime. :)

Loki In the 27 th and a 1 / 2 Century by liquidmedia 2015-09-05T06:45:00

Ran around shooting enemies but ultimately felt very lost. The only way "out" I could find was falling out at the bottom. This doesn't feel like an intentional exit though...

I couldn't figure out the significance of the singular yellow sphere.

Could use a clearer in-game clue about what my shooting is doing to the enemies.

Great playing with that music, and the intro dialog was quite humorous. Cool game! :)

Bus Crush by Selzier 2015-08-27T07:16:00

Haha, "final destination." Nice choice of words!

I was having too much fun going fast, so I was only able to get one kid to the end. But the rest were probably mortally injured from falling out of a speeding bus anyway!

I love how the train tracks are just beyond the school. The kids must have all been like, "Wait, where are we going?!" And then...

You know what this game needs? It needs screams.

Cool game, hehe!

Lich Rising by juxipolo 2015-09-03T05:37:00

Wow, great job implementing all those RTS controls! Quite enjoyed the top-down-but-still-3D style with clear and vivid units, and the voices were great too! Very nicely done. :)

Shark Swimulator by Karai17 2015-08-27T08:10:00

Cute voice, clean graphics, smooth swimming! Very nice! :)

Dr.Particulus: monster within by goodbadokay 2015-08-27T09:47:00

Very clean art! I feel like the monsters take too many hits to kill though. Kind of makes things feel slow. There was also a part of me wishing I could jump off of the monsters' heads, haha! Nice job.

Jalu - green-eyed monster by petitpois 2015-09-06T03:29:00

Interesting idea with having to collect the objects in a certain order. TI'm also digging the monster's design--it's pretty solid!

In the post-jam version, I can't seem to walk on the ledge to end the 2nd level. Not sure if it's a residual collision bug or if it's intentional to keep me from progressing to a non-existent 3rd level, haha!

But overall nice job, especially with what limited time you had! :)

Elven Blood by nihilaleph 2015-09-05T06:13:00

Lovely sprite art, nice moody color, excellent details with the writing on the wall! :)

On my first finish, I left two humans alive because I didn't bother jumping up the tower area, and got the ending where it says I wouldn't rest until all the humans are dead. I took this as a hint... so I tried again, making sure to pick off those two guys at the top too... and got the same ending. Dang!

I won't complain about the flashlighting-through-crates anywhere else since the challenge/setup relies heavily on this, but in one particular spot (the rightmost guy on the bottom) the flashlight's range feels a little misleading. The light doesn't quite go past the crate, so it looks like standing behind the crate should have been a safe spot... but it's not. Oopsie--had to find that out the hard way!

The jumps near the end are pretty brutal, where it's easy to hit the wall above you. Takes a lot of practice to get the feel for it!

Great job overall! I went and got all the of the endings. Super challenging to not kill anyone!

Cream of Society by Huo-cuo 2015-08-27T09:23:00

OOPS. If I hit R a bunch of times without actually needing to reload, my bullets just go down to zero, basically crippling my firing abilities.

Interesting idea with collecting the pieces of yourself around town, and voices have good clarity! Nice job!

MonsterCorp by EwChap 2015-08-24T02:29:00

My eyes usually just gloss over text, but this game made me take a closer look. Some hilarious employees in there! I enjoyed visiting all of them to see what they had to say.

I found this flavor of decision-making quite refreshing. I won with a office filled of hundreds of cats. Yissssss!

Don't Touch The Shredder, Jim. by Jan Tuts 2015-09-14T21:12:00

Love the implied off-screen chaos.

The stuff against the back wall looked like additional tools I could have used to pass the time, but alas, I suppose they are just more things Jim can't touch. :P

Simple but funny game! Nice job!

Monster - Prison Break by Gaius Baltar 2015-09-11T09:15:00

Really liked how the bullets ricochet. This means I could still hit someone who is chasing me down from behind! I felt almost invincible doing that, haha. But for the most part, I was sniping from afar anyway.

The black wall tiles and black ground tiles on level 3 made it more challenging to see what was actually walkable area, but I managed! Just takes patience.

Needs some death noises--it would add more satisfaction to the killing!

Overall well done--especially for a compo--and congrats on your first entry! (This was my first LD as well!)

Monster king by roma96roma 2015-08-27T08:25:00

Maybe I'm the monster because I'm killing all these innocent denizens of the environment.

The mudslugs are hecka fast. If one catches up to me, I am fuuuuuuuuuuuuuudged, since I can't run fast enough to get away!

Lots of cool monsters to see though. Awesome variety here!

Master's Treasure by Aaranos 2015-09-05T04:24:00

Dominoes with knights is pretty funny!

I found that I never really had a reason to jump. Perhaps in the future, we'll have flying enemies?! :P

Cool game!

Kibjow by Zeriver 2015-09-05T04:34:00

Love the concept here. Stage 2 was quite challenging! I was sad the game was quite short, haha.

The game gets really quiet after the music stops. Needs to loop, and also sound effects!

Nicely done, would like to see this developed further!

Snake Strike by steve 2015-08-24T23:52:00

This looks amazing! It was pretty satisfying to charge into the glowy objects, even though it seemed mostly unnecessary for reaching the end. Well done!

TAHC by n9Mtq4 2015-09-06T04:18:00

The music is pretty jammin', bro! Did both levels, and tried both monsters. I think it's just the right amount of challenging, where it's not so easy to win that it's boring, but requires enough effort and investment to make the win much more satisfying when you finally pull it off--even if it's just a "rawr" at the end! The unenthusiastic audio clips added some humor to the game, haha. Nice job!

Free Hugs Kraken by crucknuk 2015-09-12T08:20:00

Very humorous concept, awesome variety of music, and cute art!

Maybe could use a couple more sound effects for some feedback when I get hit. (And maybe also sound effects for when collecting hearts at the ghost ship.)

Sometimes I'd see the cannonballs just static, only moving at the same speed as the screen, mainly on the easier ship. They'd start moving when the ship was to appear on screen, though. Maybe a bug?

The movement on the overworld feels so smooth and satisfying. The control scheme was also quite innovative! Fun mood, very unique game, and really well done!

From The Jaws of Death by demogorgon 2015-08-24T23:46:00

The random photo seems out-of-place stylistically, and theme feels a little shoehorned in, but it was quite an interesting (and challenging!) concept to try to control two players at once! Pretty cool.

StoneWalker by Jamie Guillemette 2015-08-24T23:19:00

I also enjoyed smashing the buildings and people, but it takes quite a bit of time to get to them (and I can't spend much time doing it, so that I could still intercept the birth stone).

I think the stroll would be more interesting with sounds for the stomping, and perhaps some camera shake.

The golem model is pretty cool! His walk cycle also definitely makes him feel heavy! Very nice.

Disastris by TerraCottaFrog 2015-08-24T04:34:00

Just like the others, this takes me back to my Sim City days of summoning all the disasters I could--but without the extra hassle of having to fix everything afterward! Absolutely genius. The disasters are very satisfying and mesmerizing to watch! You sure worked some magic with those pixels!

Oh, hahaha. I left the game idle on the title screen, and now the giant monster is just flipping out in the middle of the screen. He must be suffering destruction withdrawals already!

This is a really fun game! Please add more to it later!

Doomed Settlers by Jimbly 2015-09-02T07:37:00

Good foundation for a potentially addictive game. I am a sucker for seeing numbers grow and getting the best equips.

I totally forgot about the theme until the little twist at the end. Ohhhhhh snap! Nice job, especially in so little time!

Town Crawl by VanKhron 2015-08-29T19:57:00

Very kind of you to put the first empty screen for familiarizing oneself with the controls!

Enemies drop hearts sometimes, but I can't seem to ever pick them up. Not sure if they were meant for healing, or are just decorative, haha.

I beat the golden knight by standing some distance away, and when he gets into a pre-charging pose, also charging at him (shift) and hitting him just before he gets a chance to swing at you.

I think the fact you've implemented clear tells and attack patterns is awesome. The low-poly models are well done. Nice job!

Town Crawl by VanKhron 2015-08-29T20:35:00

Side note, I was getting a "Data folder not found" error on the Windows build, even though said folder was clearly present (and I did try redownloading a few times just to check).

Sometimes I have trouble getting the kids in the van, I think when I'm dragging them in from the left or right while sticking to the bottom, instead of in from the top where the hitbox is? I'm not sure.

Really cute art and voices, and nice choice of music! Great job!

I got through the first couple of levels with some struggling. I think maybe level 3 and 4 should be switched around, as level 4 is much more forgiving in terms of movement area. Pretty challenging and unique mechanic, and the low poly art is great! Nice job!

n8b cthulhu fhtagn by n8b 2015-08-29T07:00:00

Rainbow text is a neat effect, but also a little hard to read.

Instructions are kinda fuzzy. Clicking seems to make me move towards the click point, I think? But then it also grabs vehicles sometimes, I think? And sometimes it makes tentacles appear, possibly? Not sure.

Cool style tho!

Monstory by jstclair13 2015-09-03T04:44:00

I'm using the Windows build, and I seem unable to move beyond the title screen, regardless of whether I click a red hashtag or search for another tag that you've provided in the description. I even ran it as administrator, and still refuses to budge. Not sure what else I can try.

Wish I could check this out, looks really neat!

Saturday Morning Destruction by roaringcatgames 2015-09-04T04:36:00

Hilarious concept, and faaaabulous art!

I can't always get the "next level" to work. Usually I just get thrown back to the main menu. I got to the 2nd level once, but never again. I was on the web build and using Chrome, if that makes a difference.

I also found that I'm able to hit a button repeatedly while the move prompt passes through the "do it now" line, and points register for every time I press it. I felt I was cheating doing this, because I'm pretty sure it was intended to be like DDR, where you only get one chance to hit each key at the right time, and if you miss, you miss.

This may also just be me, but I perform better when I'm in two player mode (by myself), and looking at player 2's up/down/left/right prompts instead of player 1's w/a/s/d prompts. I tended to mess up with WASD prompts because to me, "D" registers as a middle finger key (because that's how I type in the ASDF position), but when my fingers are in a WASD position, middle finger lies W or S, and I press the wrong key. Derp!

I think this would go better for me if player 1's prompts were shown as ←↑↓→ as well, even if still triggered by WASD. This is more about tricking me into directional thinking, where "forward, back, left, and right" are more familiar concepts to my fingers from movement in FPS games.

Overall very nicely done, love the style, and that music really gets that monstrous work-out going!

Pik & Pok by TheGreenTie 2015-08-29T07:12:00

I'm getting a 404 on your itch.io link.

LOL, what is happening?!

Pik & Pok by TheGreenTie 2015-08-29T19:20:00

I'm stumped too. I tried accessing it while logged in, and while logged out.

Is it published publicly, or is it private? If it's private, it looks like there's a separate link for sharing it (at the top right). If it's public, then I've no other ideas...

Pik & Pok by TheGreenTie 2015-08-30T21:53:00

Glad I stuck around for this one. The graphics/style/feel are perfect!

A couple of bugs:
On level 2-2 (I think? The symmetrical one with two green tracks on either side) I threw a coin (it landed in the very upper left corner), I stood on it while it was blinking (it's just my nature to do stupid things LOL), and became trapped inside the coin when it came into existence. I could not pick up the coin, and the red monsters couldn't touch me either, haha.

Another time, I got killed and was respawning, but there happened to be an enemy standing right next to the spawn point at that moment. I could not move away (stuck?) and was killed on the spot.

Also as other people mentioned, sometimes the coins don't stop flickering. It seems to happen at random, even if I'm making sure not to go near them until they're ready to be picked up. Once in a while, I see a coin starting to blink into existence, but then it gives up and disappears into the nether like a coward. I think maybe coin bugs more likely to happen if I walk over them? Or maybe if monsters walk over them? I'm just guessing here. I could be way off. I have no idea why it happens.

Also after I get a game over, the menu screen appears offset to the left.

Minor bugs aside, I had fun playing your game, and the music was catchy too! I've really missed playing games on the ol' NES, and this helped to fill that void. Thank you!

"ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED"

Even tried disabling my antivirus. I'm perplexed!

BYSS by Gareth Jenkins 2015-09-05T04:54:00

Oh, it's working today!

The graphics look pretty clean. Lots of beautiful shadows. Nice choice of textures. The misty effect is awesome too.

Gameplay feels slow since there's lots of waiting around with minimal player interaction, but pretty unique idea. Nice job!

Derpzilla by FrozenCow 2015-08-25T19:30:00

Haha, it's about time I found a game that's similar to mine! Whimsical second cousin of Godzilla, plus tanks, copters, and buildings. Cliché, but a solid formula for pure destructive fun! :)

Love the monster's design, and the ending gave me a chuckle. The parts where I was walking towards the tanks dragged on a little bit, but overall nice job!

Invasion by Snowdrama 2015-08-25T23:17:00

The ship flies SUPER FAST and the only way I found to avoid getting killed is to just stay out of enemy sight entirely.

But I got all 100 humans! It becomes really easy if I just scrape my ship against the ground and gather all the people in a corner, hehe. Neat game!

Programmatic Capitalism by Simon 2015-09-03T05:02:00

I came in totally expecting WASD controls, but instead it was Z forward, S back, Q left, D right? I almost feel like something bugged up the control scheme for me, and I'm not sure how.

The textures look pretty awesome, and nice pathfinding!

The Cauldron of Humanity by Lashiz121 2015-08-25T06:13:00

Took me a little bit to realize the spells required mouse clicks, rather than being bound to a key like the main attack. But I might just be tired. Wish I could get more points! The spells almost don't seem worth it for the time it takes to get enough points.

The sprites are devilishly cute. Neat game!

Funny game. Noice jerb. :)

CMDR LR by timtipgames 2015-12-15T23:52:00

Love the super clean style. The music also makes me feel alone in space--awesome job! I went through all the levels.

I have no idea how VascoF does it so well. I suspect they're a robot that does everything optimally with perfect precision. Insane! :P

I really have nothing to complain about. It takes some practice, but what doesn't? The controls feel pretty solid, and the levels are all challenging in their own ways. Really well done!

WONKS by moltanem2000 2015-12-16T00:41:00

You focused on the audio, and you did a superb job with it! The atmosphere is quite relaxing (once you get out of the WONKS dream sequence thing--terrifying! :P), and the sound effects are all delicious candy to my ears.

I like to click things a lot because those clicky clackers just sound so addicting. Unfortunately, I end up queuing up a bunch of lines of dialog, and I can't activate the bed until they all go away... Keeping myself by awake talking to myself, haha!

I also found a bug where I put more than just 5 seeds in the seedalyzer in a day, and then press the button to multiples at once. It runs through the dialog for 5 of them, but after that, I get stuck because the door is locked, and trying the bed only says that I'm "almost done."

I also like the art style. Nice details with the ripples in the water too. Please do finish this game. I really wanna try the farming. Really well done so far!

neon fall by dlowe 2015-12-16T02:30:00

I got to 8 points. So close!

The graphics are simple but slick and effective, and the sound effects yummy. :)

A couple of times I had a red one hit me from above the screen, I think. Didn't even see it coming!

Really satisfying and fun game. Nicely done!

Binary Button Battle Blobs by alfie275 2015-12-15T08:04:00

I sure do miss the pet-raising games, and this sure helped to fill that hole. Poop, food, battles, poop, growth, old age, poop... Good stuff! The big blob battles get pretty insane too! The blobs are pretty cute, and nice alliteration in the title, haha. Nice job. :)

The Legend of Da'addad by DecayConstant 2015-12-16T01:18:00

Really interesting combat system! The way the moves are randomized helps to add replayability. First time, I squeezed by with .5 seconds left or something, and the second time, I had 6.x seconds. Probably both Easy mode, I think.

For a while, I thought I was the blue guy, only because I'm so used to being on the left side from all my gaming as Player 1, haha.

Dat music is pretty kickass doe. And it's quite entertaining to read the combat messages to find out you did something pretty bad, or stupid even, LOL! Nice job!

Grow Pandora by Shivur 2015-12-16T22:19:00

It's neat how, unlike a typical tower defense game, the placeable units don't attack by themselves, but instead you spawn attackers from them which don't just sit in one spot.

I did feel like the mages died too quick for them to be worth the cost. I seemed to do quite well with hordes of archers though, but I also never got past wave 12-15 or so because the game kept freezing up. I looked at my task manager and it was using like nearly 1GB of memory when it happened. Memory leak? (Windows 10)

I was really trying to see what the Vargos and Thull things were like, but alas.

I think I would also appreciate a counter of your units that are still alive. It's really hard to tell who's dying when they're all clumped up in one spot attacking a single enemy.

Overall pretty nice. I just wish I could have experienced the whole thing!

Sticky Stuff by bradur 2015-12-16T02:58:00

Amazing mood, somehow even if it's just a game just about a spinning circle and things sticking to it. Also really fun to spin fast. Super well done!

Bud the Gardener by xdigdoug 2015-12-15T06:28:00

I was fumbling with the controls for a few minutes but eventually got the hang of it. I also did something weird with the two button controls, so I can't complain. Just takes some practice and getting-used-to! :P

Anyway, I think I kind of screwed myself over by planting grass on all the tiles I had, and it seems the spade can't dig those up, so I was unable to acquire more dirt to expand, if that's how it works? WHOOPS!

But you've got a lot of cool mechanics going on here, especially for a first LD--and a compo entry, at that! Nice job!

Meowtastic Present Panic by OnionBlaze 2015-12-15T08:53:00

Too cute! I did 14 presents. On my first try though, I sat on every green arrow and delivered a total of 6, haha. The juicy animation, sounds are satisfying, and gameplay is super smooth and responsive. Everything fits together so nicely. Awesome job!

Croc Climber by thegypsyknight 2015-12-15T08:38:00

I tried to bring a bag of fertilizer to the menu screen, but alas... no holy grail for me!

And those moments when I think, "Oh, I'll just carry this fertilizer with me up the beanstalk." Go ahead and laugh at me... LOL.

I think I had a bug a couple of times (Windows) while I was climbing down the first beanstalk on the left (or second beanstalk in the stage), and I got teleported straight down somehow and landed in the spikes. Not sure exactly what it is. Maybe I'm slightly clipping the corner when it happens too?

Overall very polished! Well done, clever and challenging too!

Nomnivore by Jelinib 2015-12-15T20:59:00

Thanks for the thoughts and feedback so far guys! Even though I didn't get to refine everything to my satisfaction, it's always very helpful for me to learn about how others experience the game, so I can see where I should take it and where glaring problem areas are! Keep 'em coming!

@timtipgames
I am wholly impressed with your perseverance! While I cannot refund your time (it's already spent, sorry), I think your efforts are at least worth a trophy. Enjoy the new 64x64 image on your profile page! I also audibly clapped for you even though nobody could hear it. Thanks for playing and actually sticking to it! :)

Feed The Hole by krashja 2015-12-15T05:54:00

Wow, this is actually quite satisfying to play! I love watching the physics at work here.

I think I found a small bug, where if I'm absorbing, then release the button and immediately hold it down again, suction power stops working while I continue holding it.
A cryptic representation of what the button-holding pattern looks like:
____________/\_______________

But overall it feels pretty solid, and it's great fun! Nice job!

Bridge Balance by blohod 2015-12-15T07:43:00

I got far enough to see the screen move a little bit (899)! Really cool mechanic. The logs kinda make me hungry for chocolate. Like a bunch of Kit-Kats, all wedged up against each other... that chocolately coat over crispy layered wafers, and nomnomnomnom

The gameplay is simple and easy to understand, yet is unique. Nice job using the themes too!

Don't Be FAT by Mr_Fudd 2015-12-16T02:10:00

Nice idea flipping around the "catch the falling object" kind of game. Also the way that being larger makes it harder to not eat food is a clever parallel with the real world.

The torrents of food were quite amazing to watch. I just have to stand there in awe, mouth gaping open... and soon, it's all over, haha.

Well done on your first LD! Now, probably the hardest part--keep going! :)

Space Cactus by Vosvek 2015-12-16T01:58:00

Yaaaay! I am amazement! Now I see why it's called "Space Cactus," haha. It looks so happy out there. Art is cute, and space is awesome.

It got a little difficult to read the text around the mid-high 20s with the black text on top of the dark backgrounds, but at least reading that isn't necessary to win. :P

The higher levels are certainly more difficult, with higher growth point requirements and only a few points per pass with the sun. Had me wondering if a way to score a CRITICAL SUNBEAM could be devised for the user doing something special right on the center. But I dunno, I can't really think of a way to wedge that in with the current mechanics either.

Really cool how the background changes as you progress, and the cactus gets happier. Well done on your first LD, and congratulations too! Be sure to enter again for LD 35!

I had to play this alone, but this seems like it'd be really fun with others!

I don't have much to gripe about, but I might just say it was a little hard to see what trap was in the spot directly behind the relic, and also it seems like only player 1 has the correct win animation--winning with anyone else makes them so happy that they die, haha!

Love the dancing going on in the menu screen too! Awesome game! :)

I was totally not ready to get in the driver's seat! I kept getting myself stuck between hills! Probably because I have no idea how trains work. I initially mistakenly thought that "anywhere above the green line and below the red is fine," and later came to the realization that more pressure is more oomph--of course!!

I majorly sucked at all the levels, but the complexity of the controls definitely makes this feel like the kind of game that would be really rewarding when finally nailing a level after a bunch of practice! The sound effects were great too. Nice compo entry! :)

Artifact of the Ancients by Omiya Games 2016-08-31T07:26:00

Lucy told me to "hurry back," but I told her, "No! I'm continuing this way instead like a rebel." And the very next moment, I somehow jumped into a pit of spikes, hahaha!

Gosh, I am pretty dense! It actually took me until level 5 (the one with the movable ramp) to realize what I was actually doing with the boxes, LOL! Before that, I was all like, "Ooh a box! I wanna push it!" And things would just be magically accessible after pushing them all the way to the walls, but I never stopped to think why. Or I'm sleepy. (Excuses.... :P)

Although looking at it again, I realize now that there were actually faint images of the crates for where they were positioned in the alternate universe. I totally didn't notice them on my first go! Maybe changing the wall colors around the crates, swapping in a line-art version of the crate, or having a less textured background would help the alt-crates stand out better and be more obvious to dumbos like me, hehe!

It might also be nice to have some kind of graphic indicating where the otherwise invisible talk points for Lucy are! I had run past some of these on accident, only noticing something when an "S" over my head appeared and disappeared quickly. I feel like I might be missing out on more entertaining dialog!

Super impressed by the clever mechanics here! Blew my mind--or turned my world upside-down, rather! You're great at thinking outside the boxes! Love Sam's character design too!

Solid stuff. Awesome job. Never stop making games! :)

ab aeterno by sbeif 2016-09-11T09:08:00

This seems like it would be a fun, action-packed game! But I only was able to try it out by myself, so my thoughts may not be valid, haha. :P

I notice you have two unused buttons displayed! Did you already have ideas? I'm wondering if an ability to affect the other player's movement in some way could make things more interesting and add a layer of strategy--like a forceful shove/hidden bumper, or a little wall that appears when the opponent or one of their arrows travels near it... No idea, really! I wish I got to experience your game to the fullest! But alas... LOL!

Hilarious walk cycles, and I love the cartoony look too. Unique and fitting way to display player health as well! Sweet job overall! :)

Eye of the Boulder by Soullesswaffle 2016-08-31T00:50:00

Even though the instructions implied that I should be playing this with a friend to control "Player 2," I played both of them myself at the same time... and the idea of multitasking like that was intriguing!

The boulders seemed fairly important, but it seemed like they only were only good for crushing bunnies. Wish I could use them against the wolves too, but they were like brick walls! :P

You picked some catchy music. Cute sprite art for the animals too! Nice job, and congrats on your first LD! Good luck on your future games! :)

Mayan Painter by dmfreddie 2016-08-31T01:02:00

Not sure if it's something buggy with the web build, but my mouse coordinates and the pixel painted in-game didn't match up as I got farther away from the top of the screen. I thought that'd make it a teensy bit hard, but it turns out my overall accuracy just went higher and higher if I didn't attempt to paint anything at all, LOL! I think something broke.

I couldn't figure out how to get all those beautiful colors you have in your screenshots either. The biggest circle and the smaller circle touching it just look totally black for me. :(

I was always a fan of that "draw on the lines as accurately as possible" minigame in one of the old Mario Party games though, and this totally remind me of it! Cool entry! :)

Wing Warrior by n42k 2016-09-11T08:35:00

Pretty cool beat/slice/blast-em-up! The scrolling instructional text was a neat feature too!

I could not get the hang of flying though. :( I had 40 minutes of failure before I even go to try (because of several deaths)! And once I got to the proper stage, it took me too long to actually pull off, so by then, the swarm of enemies had grown quite large (I had run out of orbs, and there's no way I was going to sword all that down). My flight only lasted half a second while starting to read the additional instructional text that popped up, and then I plummeted right into the sea of death. WHOOPS.

I think the instructions were telling me to run across the top as fast as I could, jump, and hit X at the top of the jump? I'm not sure what I was doing wrong, but maybe my timing was off. I maybe would've been able to read the instructions more carefully if I didn't have to worry about the constant danger around me. Being able to pause and read the text (or hear it?) or having some way to learn/practice flying with no risk would be nice, as it seems to be the most complicated of the controls.

Love the run cycles, haha! Who needs windmill kicks when you can windmill run?! I was also quite fond of the sword swinging animation. Totally smooth!

Nice job! :)

A Robot named Rover by Hackingroelz 2016-09-11T23:59:00

Very challenging! I feel like I'm a wet bar of soap, the way I slip around everywhere! :P

The vroom-vroom audio stopped playing in one of the later stages (might've been the last stage?) and never came back, but that problem didn't last long as I reached the end of the game right after that.

The cubic styled graphics look sweet, and the dialog was amusing. Nice job! :)

Dino Hipster Survival by zulman 2016-08-31T02:46:00

Juicy game; the explosions feel great!

On my first go around, I was stuck on level 8/10 for the longest time, usually dying with about 10 seconds left... But with some dumb luck, I eventually got past that! I think my main problem was that I had put too many points in +Range, which unfortunately seems to make the missiles just curve right around the asteroids that need to die the most! I eventually got to level 10 on that run, but after that, I tried another run with getting as much in +Missiles as I could and doing +Speed when I didn't have the choice, and that journey to level 10 went much more smoothly.

Maybe an upgrade to throw extra ice packs on the missile launcher to make it overheat slower would be nicely paired with +Range, since +Range tends to require a lot of extra missiles to hit problem asteroids.

This game really makes me question my existence.. Are we in a dino simulation!? How can we know!?

Awesome game! I had lots of fun! :D

Allan by Damdoshi 2016-09-11T23:07:00

Very unique graphics!

I tried both versions and I especially like the dialog and voices you added. Gameplay is much improved too! I actually tried 1.0 after 1.1, and I had a much harder time surviving in it haha.

I wanted to try to get to the ending, but I seem to be getting crashes just randomly while walking down the halls (on version 1.1, at full health too). Maybe happens 10 minutes in, I dunno. No idea what's causing that!

The echoes of the sound effects really helped to make the place feel abandoned. Along with the lighting and music, it was very atmospheric, awesome job!

The Stones of Kelzi by XAND 2016-08-31T06:09:00

The sound loop and darkness are very atmospheric! Love it.

My first try, I got a heck of a lot of potions and then I died.
On my second try, I got a heck of a lot of coins and then I died.
On my third try, I got a heck of a lot of swords, but that didn't seem to do me any good, but then I won anyway. LOL.

I found that it was easier to hit enemies while positioned below or to the left of them, and a deathzone when I'm positioned to the right or above them. This difference is most apparent in that I'm able to have an enemy stick themselves up against a tree, and I can easily hit them from the other side while they can't hit me back, but this doesn't work from northern or eastern approaches.

An animation for punching or sword swiping would've been nice to have, because before I discovered the stand-west-or-south-of-the-enemy trick, I wasn't sure if I was even attacking. I also think I picked up an axe(?) at some point, but I'm not too sure if that actually happened because I didn't see anything pop up in the HUD boxes up top (not too clear on how the inventory works; I only ever saw my tiny itty bitty sword in a corner of a box there, and the other two were always empty).

I eventually got all the words (I realized this when books took my money but didn't pop up any text) and went to the cube (took me a while to find it again because I forgot where it was) and the rain stopped! But it stayed dark. The description led me to believe that the eternal darkness would've been lifted as well. Darn! I really wanted to see the light come back!

Nice job though, especially for 48 hours!

Dino Dash by Josho 2016-08-31T01:19:00

I got a high score of 32!! >:D Took me a bunch of tries! The music stopped playing on my first round though. I was sad, because it was such a kickin' beat!

I really like the thought of a dinosaur with a jet pack, dodging great balls of fire--HARDCORE! Your art for the dino makes me happy as well. He looks so cute with those beady eyes, and his jet pack is comically undersized, haha! :)

The increasingly difficult twitchy/reflexiness also reminded me Robot Unicorn Attack in a way--one of my favorites from the olden days! Cool game!

Reinvent the Wheel by ratly 2016-09-12T00:41:00

I learned a little about wheel shapes today, yay! Very cool!

I initially had some trouble with the jump at the end of the clover wheel portion, but after a few tries I discovered it's better to jump a little early rather than at the edge.

I love the way the music fits with something like this too. Very nicely done!

Sage and his Quest to Immortality! by frix360 2016-09-11T23:37:00

Cute art! I'd definitely would like to see how the wolf would look in the same style as the people.

I discovered that the seesaw is super effective if I drop the boulder closer to the center. I almost flew to the moon! :P

I also noticed a faint white splotch above the sage's head. It's very very faint, so I think it might be in there by accident, maaybe. I only really noticed it at the end stage where the background is darker.

Congrats and awesome job on your first LD!

Sprite Warrior by monkeybit29 2016-08-31T05:26:00

Spear range (and damage) is insane, it's like a gun that just doesn't work at short range, haha!

The club was super satisfying to use when swarmed with enemies too though. The sounds stacked up to be a bit loud in those situations, but I was glad I seemed to be invincible, though that sacrifices any challenge.

The game started me off standing at the second pile of tutorial text (about the weapons) instead of the first (about walking and attacking). The controls were nice and natural anyway so I didn't necessarily need to read the first bit, but I was initially confused as to which direction I was supposed to walk in, as both the top and the bottom looked like wide open pathways.

I do like the idea of 2D characters in a 3D world. (Paper Mario was good fun!) Love the art for the warrior too! I wish the environments had as much detail as he does, but you can only do so much in 48 hours, haha. Nice job! :)

Soaring with the Ancients by xzippyzachx 2016-09-12T01:22:00

The music and look of the game are quite relaxing!

But the plane didn't want to let me relax, haha. If I wasn't holding onto the brakes, the plane would too easily zoom miles away from the terrain, which would be quite hard to find again if I went too high as well (white would be everywhere).

Maybe having another key to manually press to go, rather than automatically going all the time, may give me some time to take in the scenery without having to grip the leash so tightly so the plane doesn't get away, haha. :P

Very nice graphics and atmosphere though. Well done!

LD37 — One room

Journey to Mars by brainchewer 2017-01-02T04:20:00

Died four times (one of those times was insta-death on the launch pad, haha), and survived once. Very humorous! I wasn't sure if I saw a scenario where STR came into play... A longer adventure would've been nice, but overall this was enjoyable for what it was. Good job!

Cyborg Ninja Training Room by MrErdalUral 2016-12-31T04:22:00

Art is great, music is catchy, and controls feel solid and responsive. The way the cyborg dashes forward with the melee attack does a nice job of adding some "oomph" to it!

People before me already gave valuable feedback, so I have to think of something else to nitpick on... Maybe either the fire-wall/poke or fire-dog could employ a different attack, as they both seem to do the same thing (attacks strictly left or right with fire, except that one moves). But I understand this similarity may have been a side-effect of time constraints. :P

Or maybe in a future version, having a little bit of anticipation prior to an enemy's attack (like seeing them "charging up" an attack first before they actually fire) may be helpful in making attacks feel less random and deaths more the player's own fault.

Overall this was fun to play! The little cutscene between levels with the scientist walking out of the door was a nice touch too. Nicely done!

Shepherd House by Kurang 2017-01-01T19:23:00

Nice pathing you did here! The way the animals walk in squiggly lines rather than in straight lines is something I wanted to implement in my game too, but didn't get around to it... But you got it, and it looks great!

On my first play around, I was confused as to why the building crashed like it took damage, but I soon figured out that the charging bulls actually attack the building, and not me! A sound effect for when a bull is charging up its charge could be a helpful cue for me to run around and check on who's misbehaving behind off-screen. Maybe some sounds like snorting and/or a hoof scraping the ground would be appropriate.

Maybe another sound effect for when the whip hits something would be satisfying too.

Artwise, the animals look good, and the music felt fitting for a farm setting. Overall nice job! :)

Ricochet by Liamzo 2017-01-01T10:04:00

With all this stuff flying around, I think the music was a little bit too calming! :P

I couldn't really get a feel of when I was successfully using the bullet reflect ability unless I was closely watching for bullets changing direction. I think some kind of feedback when using this ability would be cool! Like maybe a brief white flash on affected bullets, an accompanying sound effect upon successful reflection, etc. Maybe some kind of hint of the size of the "reflection area," so I could take more care to time my clicks for when bullets are in range, rather than click-spamming and hoping for the best!

This could be a really chaotic and fun game, just gotta add that juice! Having limited time to work on it sucks... but I think you did a good job for a day's work! :)

Test Chamber by ema1ih 2017-01-01T03:42:00

The little cutscenes and dialog definitely made this more interesting. I felt like the challenge of this game came more from nailing jumps with touchy controls rather than having to think about where to push the blocks. In the future, I would perhaps like to see more rooms that make me think a bit about their solutions!

This game had a pleasantly surprising amount of levels and story content for a game jam. I enjoyed it. Overall nice job!

Furni-Chore by AgentParsec 2017-01-01T08:18:00

This was very relaxing to play. No time limits, calming music and sound effects, and the satisfaction of making things fit just right!

The green highlights for valid placements are a nice and easy way for the player to see and remember what can go where! Thank you for implementing that! It was super helpful in solving the puzzles.

Like others have said, level 14 was the hardest. And I didn't have much of a problem with 15. They should probably swap places so that 14 is the last level, hehe.

Graphics are clean, the glitter is great, and the puzzles are nicely challenging! I really don't have much to complain about. Very well done!

The Path to Freedom by TheProClaimedOmnivore 2017-01-01T20:10:00

I couldn't figure out how to get the item combining to work. I really wanted to put the battery in the flashlight (even though the room was already pretty lit)... Upon right clicking, the first item would show in the "Carrying out" area, but after swapping over to the other item I wanted to combine it with and right clicking again, nothing seemed to happen (also tried left clicking, and a different order). Either something broke, or I need more instructions, haha.

I wasn't sure if I was entering the safe code correctly... Every three interactions, the light on the keypad would turn green, then gray again. Couldn't get the safe open. But an indication of whether a sequence of 4 numbers was right or wrong would be helpful!

This is quite a bit of modeling work for a game jam though! I liked the overall feel of the room, and I had fun opening all the drawers even if there was nothing in most of them, haha. :P Good job.

One room to another by arputikos 2016-12-21T09:31:00

Quite challenging! At first, the stick man was moving way too fast for me, but I sorta fixed this by relaunching the game in a higher graphics quality mode rather than the default "Fastest" or "Fast" mode. Maybe movement speed needs to have a Time.deltaTime multiplier in there so it's more consistent across frame rates, I think.

I was able to do most of the levels! Except for level 3. Jumping on that tiny moving platform took a bit of practice, but doable! But I was totally stumped at what I was supposed to do to get onto the second tiny platform. The nearest platforms I considered jumping to it from are either too far, or in the wrong dimension. I even tried to see if I could run at full speed off of the larger platform in blackworld and lodge myself onto the side of the tiny moving platform, but it was still too far to do even that. Or maybe my timing was still off. I only reached that point twice, haha.

Really made me think! I couldn't think hard enough, but I still liked the challenge! :P I liked the simplicity of the graphics too. Sometimes that's all you need! Nice job!

Cryogenic by TeamCryo 2017-01-01T06:00:00

Lots of dialog and choices and branching paths made for good replay value. The art was clean and effective. The music was quite haunting and definitely made the mission feel like a hopeless one!

I couldn't figure out how to get good results in terms of a food source... and I feel like eating the Azotean is generally frowned upon... I reached the end a few times but I don't feel like I was able to get any good endings there either. I wanna try so hard to get a happy ending, but I must be clicking the wrong things in the wrong order!

I'll figure this out someday... Kept me hooked for a while though! Great game! :)

The Chore by cxsquared 2017-01-01T20:26:00

Very clean art! Calming music (except when the wife comes home angry!). Even though it's short, the story was great too. Maybe a clock showing how much time we have left could be helpful, but overall this is really well done! I played until I got 3 endings, couldn't figure out the 4th... but I'll have to try more later! :)

Sweet Dreams by abcdef65g 2017-01-02T03:48:00

Wow! Solid game you guys got here! I played on the web build embedded here on LD, and lasted 'til a score of 1240. I think this is well done, but since you politely asked to leave as much feedback as I can, I'll try... :P

When I tried to use the bombs, all of them got spent with only a single right click. I'm guessing that it has to be changed to be triggered by a Input.GetMouseButtonDown instead of an Input.GetMouseButton.

I think the lighting change was a cool idea! Not sure if this was intentional, but they way the shadows were constantly moving during gameplay may have been a little distracting. I'd personally prefer keeping the lights dimmed down during nightmare time, and just flicking them on during shopping time between waves. Maybe the enemies could have some glow-in-the-dark parts on them too!

All the music fit really well! Additional sound effects for item drop/pickup and bomb explosions, and different sounds for different weapons, and different grunts for different enemies would be nice to have too!

Towards the later levels as enemy numbers start becoming slightly overwhelming (or maybe just "whelming" :P), I was kinda wishing I could upgrade the guns to be stronger, besides just buying more ammo for them.

Level transitions were totally sweet. I am also fond of the art style found in the shop. I had good fun playing this! Quite nicely fleshed out and polished compared to many other entries. You guys did a great job! :)

Sight by alfie275 2017-01-02T02:41:00

Going from flat colors and complete silence to chaos taking over was an amazing contrast. Simple but very effective! Great job, especially on the sound!

Plastic Regiment by quadtree 2017-01-02T04:40:00

Bombs are OP, haha. Was probably just luck, but I 1HKO'd the hard level with one! I had a hard time finding weapons other than 1 and 4.

This is a great amount of work for a compo entry! It brought me back to those N64 days of playing Army Men, and being able to blow up the environment was so satisfying! Very enjoyable! Well done! :)

Chemical Chaos by danielilett 2017-01-02T23:04:00

Gosh, that's the cutest jar of water I've ever seen! :P

I reached a score in about the 500s or so, both with focusing on tending to distillation and John, and distillation and colored flames. Majority of my attention had to go to either John or the colored flames, as they both fairly quickly reach a point where action is required every second. By contrast, the distillation temperature was little/no issue requiring only minimal attention.

I think for a more "juggling-like" experience, the difficulty increase could be slowed for John and the colored flames, and perhaps slightly increased for the distillation.

I might've lasted longer when focusing on distillation+John, because while John gets increasingly fragile, he takes far less effort to maintain (a click or few as fast as I can manage) compared to the colored flames (click, walk, and another click if dropping in trash--and not to mention all the stuff I might accidentally knock off the table in the process). Additionally the colored flames corner was much farther away too, so running to/from its corner took even more time. (Maybe the room could be made smaller and the experiments brought closer together?)

John's faces, the elements' descriptions on the wall, and the captions informing of the experiments' statuses were amusing to look at/read! The table-of-the-elements style fit nicely too. Pretty unique idea too! Good job, especially for a compo entry!

Dungeon 2.0 by TheMonsterFromTheDeep 2017-01-01T09:24:00

I tried out as many skills as I could. This was really satisfying to play!

It was initially confusing to me that putting a point in skill 1 unlocked (and allowed me to use) skill 2 already, instead of requiring me to put a point in skill 2 to use skill 2. But if I thought of it at it as "skill 1 is a prerequisite for skill 2" then it made a little more sense that way. But this confusion is probably my fault because I didn't wait for the tutorial, haha! :P

The arrow counts were a little hard to see, as they are black text over a dark background. Maybe the slimes could have a slight squash/stretch animation when they jump around, so they seem less solid.

A sound effect for picking up monster remains/exp could be delicious too!

-- But these are all only minor nitpicks. :P

I had a lot of fun with this. Love all the juiciness in your game. This is really well done! Great job! :)

No Exit by PlasmaErnst 2016-12-21T08:37:00

The monster's model and bubbliness is hecka creepy. Well done! Gotta see him textured someday! :) Seeing its field of vision was a helpful addition too. The sound effects seem to have disappeared in the updated version though.

When I realized I could just exit through the same door I came in and still have the room numbers go up--I felt like I was cheating! But doing this was kinda necessary for avoiding the monster in those narrow hallway rooms, especially since I usually didn't have a gun on me...

Of course, I wish the guns had more bullets, but only because that'd make the game even easier, hahaha. Good effort, even if unfinished! The learning experience is much more valuable!

One Roomba by KevinWorkman 2017-01-02T03:57:00

Gameplay was easy to understand. I liked the personality that the dialog added to the otherwise "just harder levels" progression. Just the right amount of challenge! And I thought the ending was pretty cute. It's amazing that you worked on this on your phone! Extra applause just for that. Well done!

Freedom by Cody Hansen 2016-12-21T08:13:00

I went through it two or three times juuuust to make sure nothing special happened upon multiple successive completions, haha.

The game was easy to understand, and the growth in difficulty was at a logical pace. Music and graphics are simple, but do a nice job of moodying up the lonely dungeon. I liked the bit of personality in the dialog too. Kept me curious to see what it had to say next!

This may be non-trivial to pull off, but I think it would also be cool if lit candles and the little glowing orb attached to the character emitted a some light when the room went dark. Otherwise, I don't really have any suggestions that weren't already mentioned.

Speaking of the character, I thought it was interesting that you chose a ghost to be the one stuck in this room, as if there's a deeper story behind this! Perhaps this room is where he died, and he's now doomed to haunt this place forever. His face definitely makes me think he's been here for quite a long time already! AHHH how spooky!

Brings back fond memories of dungeons in Legend of Zelda games. You did a nice job planning out a reasonable game for the time available to you--unlike myself! ;P Well done! (And thanks for the comment!)

Bat Cave by schizoid2k 2017-01-01T04:33:00

Hahaha, my bird went NUTS over the bat death sounds... They must've sounded too much like another bird screeching in pain! He must have been very concerned and wanted to do his best to answer all those calls for help... with more screeches of his own. Thanks, bird! :P

Anyway, I played the web build. Though the description says the bullet powerup should last 10 seconds, it seemed to last forever! I felt this was kind of necessary anyway though, as at some point, it becomes humanly impossible to shoot enough bullets to get rid of all the new bats coming in, haha. I found that 2-3 stacks of heroin made a nearly impenetrable wall of bullets. More than that though, and I'd be shooting a lot of blanks.

The flat vector graphics look cool, and the textured walls look cool! But together, they feel kind of mismatched. I think going for a full vector style would be my personal preference--and easier to do too! The stalactite drips were also kind of hard to see against the dark background, and I tended to miss them a lot. Maybe the drips could be brightened up so they stand out better.

At some point, jumping felt too risky due to the sheer number of bats swooping down, so I mainly ended up camping in a corner, holding the Ctrl button until I died, haha. I think I tended to hold out until about 24K points at best.

I liked something about the bat animations, and the constant background sound brought me back to those old arcade days. And mowing down all those bats sure was satisfying! Nice compo entry! :)

Chamber Designer by Palys Plays 2017-01-01T10:21:00

Very unique concept. Clever use of the theme. Love the blueprint style, and art is very clean! I maybe want to hear how it'd be with sound effects for clicking and dragging the shapes, but overall I have no real complaints. Really well done game!

Class Notes by tellus 2017-01-01T07:16:00

Though there were still default Unity capsules in there, I felt the amusing notes balanced that out. :P

On my first try, I didn't really look around (and didn't notice that the guy beside me was lit up), so instead my first instinct was to throw the note to the blue guy because he stood out the most... And then I felt dumb, haha!

The concept is unique and simple, but I enjoyed opening up the notes, and before I knew it, class was over! Mission success. Nice job! :)

The Room in The Ocean by zoopei 2017-01-01T06:37:00

I don't really have any new critiques that were already mentioned above, but... Story, progressing tutorial levels, multiple puzzles and puzzle mechanics, multiple rigged 3D characters, music, and a level editor? Wow. This is an amazing amount of work for so little time! I look forward to seeing what your next game will be like. Nice job!
