That was entertaining. Nice work :)

That was entertaining. Nice work :)
Very impressive, and quite fun :)
Impressive. It was a little tough to figure out what I was trying to accomplish on the first level, after that it was pretty simple. Twist ending made me laugh :)
Very scary, well done with the sound and ambiance :)
I think there are some bugs with resetting the game between rounds -- definitely seemed like I lost instantly a few times.
Really impressed with the music, and the overall polished feel. And fun!
Thanks for the feedback!
I've updated the description with a bit more detail about the gameplay: you can stop the monsters by stomping on them, until they eat a donut, after which they stomp you. And there's no winning condition.
@Vaughn: 2-4 FPS: ouch. I'd assume the network was to blame -- I basically didn't do any work on optimizing what goes over the wire (e.g. delta compression) or compensating for bad network latency (e.g. client-side prediction). If you want to give it another shot, installing it locally should be reasonably easy....
Thanks again!
@Tifu: Good point. Fixing.
@archaeometrician: Thank you!
Fun! The jumping felt a little off, and I couldn't figure out how to consistently break blocks. I am impressed :)
goofy :)
I love the turn-taking mechanic.
Cute. I enjoyed it :)
Resetting the letters every ten seconds: harsh!
Definitely a bit of a confusing interface, but the idea is very neat and it's well-executed. Thanks for the game :)
thanks for the game!
Impressive! Very stylish, and a very cool concept. Thanks for the game :)
O_o
Thanks for the game :)
Well, I *was* going to sleep...
Thanks for the game!
I like the idea, and I like the triangles :) Even with the tutorial, it took me a while to figure out the interface... and then once I got the hang of it, it was pretty shallow (in the sense that I didn't need to do any significant strategizing) and easy. Still: kudos on the neat game, and thanks!
Thanks for the game!
HA HA HA HA :)
OOoooh, fun :)
Extremely challenging until I wrapped my head around it. Thanks!
I'd love to give you a great rating, looks like you've opted out :/
Well: this is very impressive and fun. I got stuck on the lower part of the castle after getting the double jump, and quit out of frustration of having to re-do that long sequence of jumps, only to be killed by the shooter next to the ladder in the corner :P
Anyway: very impressive. Nice work :)
thanks for the game :)
Fun way to make a bloody spatter pattern :D
Pro tip: don't IDDQD and then leave the game running while you go get coffee.
Thanks for the game!
The controls felt really slow to me. Multiplayer was neat, and the music is very nice. Thanks for the game!
Thanks for the game! You probably need to penalize dirty cheaters like me who ignore the timing and just spam the button :)
O_o
Sweet. And challenging!
That was fun, and very challenging. Thanks for the game!
Thanks for the game!
Thanks for the game!
thanks for the game!
thanks for the game!
The controls didn't work at all for me, unfortunately. Looks like a neat game, but I wasn't able to play :(
Thanks for the game!
My life is substantially enriched by having experienced this game. Thank you!
Thanks for the game!
we enjoyed blowing everything up with lightning strikes ;)
fun!
Thanks for the game!
thanks for the game!
Thanks for the game!
Hey, another member of team made-a-game-with-my-kids. High five!
This was great. The first level was easy enough to forgive me taking a couple of minutes to figure out the mechanics and goals, which I appreciate. Mechanics reminded me of the old blockade/snake games, with an original twist. After a couple of levels, I found myself increasingly irritated with the robot frost eagle's tendency to aim for all the obstacles. CAN YOU JUST STOP KILLING YOURSELF FOR 3 SECONDS WHILE I GO COLLECT A GEM?
Thanks for the game :)
The WSQD controls were unplayable for us, and the scrolling was quite broken as well, unfortunately. Looks like a neat little game, but we were unable to play, really :(
Aww, cute :)
I loved the idea, but we found very quickly that (at least with just 2 players) it was too easy to end up deadlocked. Also way too easy to self destruct. With a bit of balancing, this could be a fun party game. Thanks!
Hmm, how long does it take to evolve the critter? Seemed like a cute concept, but I couldn't get anywhere :/
This is a fun little game! The title might be the best part :D
The controls feel really "jumpy"... I think because there's no acceleration between 0 and top-speed. Makes it very hard to make the kind of small adjustments that would be needed at high speeds.
Thanks for the game!
Level 8 :D
This was a sweet twist on a retro classic, and I loved it. Thanks for the game!
Nice graphics and music. We couldn't get used to the odd controls :(
The in-game instructions made no sense to us at first. Once we got used to it, really enjoyed it! I thought it was hilarious to choose to use 1 of the 2 button controls for "pause" while the other button does 3 different things. And the 'game over' screen really startled me! Thanks :)
Thanks for the interesting and oddly addictive experience :)
Bwaaaaaa ha ha ha :D
Almost the perfect handshake simulator. My only advice would be to add a few frames of invincibility after getting hit; I found it annoying to be killed from 2 health by a well-timed pair of obstacles.
Thanks for the game!
Thanks for the game :)
Heh, thanks for the funny game :)
Seemed like a sweet idea (GET IT?) but we were unable to play because we don't have a mouse with a scroll wheel :(
Fun idea. It wasn't clear whether there were any goals or ways to win/advance the game. And the "change gravity" was really hard to use, because it felt like the controls became reversed. Still, it's an original and fun idea, and thanks for sharing it! :)
Very, very neat idea! I think this has a lot of potential. As it is currently, I think the chaos of the initial melee makes it feel luck-based instead of skill-based. If I survive the initial melee with more birds than my opponents, I win. The AI is also probably over-aggressive. But these are pretty minor points: on the whole, this is a very neat, very original game. Thanks!
Thanks for the game!
Thanks for the game!
Inability to aim was frustrating to me (it felt like hitting the enemies was a matter of luck, rather than skill.) Sweet music and nice little game, though!
Thanks for the spooky experience :)
This was great! Thanks for the fun :)
Very cute and very well executed game; I'm impressed! Unfortunately way too much clicking for my poor wrists to handle. Automatic rapid-fire, or else *significantly* less hits required to kill enemies, would make the game much more playable for me. Thanks for the game!
This is a really neat idea. I'll echo what's been said above: the controls could use some refinement to make it feel like the player has a bit more control over their fate. I was very glad that dying wasn't super-punishing, once I got a few levels in!
Thanks very much for the game!
I love tower defense games. This is a neat take, but I think the complexity might be too high -- I didn't really understand all of the mechanics at work. Still, I played for a bit and enjoyed it.
Thanks for the game!
@abraxas-interactive this was my first pico-8 experiment, and my impression is: we get a modern (powerful) CPU attached to extremely constrained input/output hardware. I was afraid I'd break it with hundreds of creeps and/or particle effects, but so far, no problems :)
@KScorp yep, fair enough. Actual spamming isn't supposed to work (there's a cooldown on the button, but it's not super fine-tuned.) But you're totally right about the gameplay if you try to build a maze and go late: the rhythm tapping gets painful.
@neverautomatic thanks :)
@steve-sparkes thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
@bitjester-media I am equally bad at multitasking, which is why there's a pretty long delay between waves. For me, it was usually enough to make adjustments to my towers, and then focus on rhythm during the actual wave. (But if I decide to work on the game more post-ld, I'll probably add an easier mode where the wave doesn't start until triggered in some way.)
@drludos thank you! What did you think of TIC-80?
@rombus glad you enjoyed it!
If you want to get a bit further, try building a maze to force the enemies to stay on screen and in range of your towers for longer. I usually start something like this:
Screen Shot 2018-04-26 at 8.37.24 PM.png
... and also, you get bonus towers after each wave if your rhythm was particularly accurate :)
Super glad you enjoyed, and thanks so much for the feedback.
@guckstift thanks for the feedback, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
A sound cue on successfully hitting the rhythm would be good, but I actually hit a limit of pico-8: there are only 4 audio channels!
Hilarious concept, well executed. Voices were sadly incomprehensible, but I just pretended they were saying something funny ;)
Thanks for the game!
Your sprites are adorable, music is charming, controls were very smooth, and the tutorial did a good job carrying me along & introducing mechanics. I really enjoyed the first few minutes, and then, as others have pointed out, the game seemed to play itself (except occasional robot rampages.)
Anyway, impressive work. Thanks for the game!
That was hilarious and very fun. The sprites and animations were spot-on, & the music worked well with the game. Nice work :)
Thanks for the game!
Very cool idea. Like @niksg I really liked the discovery aspect.
There was at least one "blind jump", which was scary... and then the next spot I thought was going to be a blind jump just killed me :/
Checkpoints would be nice, too. The pace is pretty slow, so sending me back to the start felt really punishing.
Thanks for the game!
Very nice work, and fun to play. Graphic quality is excellent, and the idea is simple but well-executed.
I would have liked an option to skip the (very slow) pre-level scene each time I died. It got tedious while I was still figuring out the controls and mechanics. The somewhat sluggish actual gameplay didn't bother me, and seemed fitting given that I was flying a cargo ship.
Thanks for the game!
This is really fun! And very hard!
It seems very polished, to be honest. If you're looking to expand/elaborate, I'd love to see your take on breakout "power ups" with the twist that the upgraded projectiles come back at you :)
Thanks for the game!
MORE PLEASE :)
\o/ pico8
Good concept, & impressively polished for a ludum dare entry. I liked the visuals a lot.
A wee bit more in-game help during the rhythm sections would helped me a lot -- it took me quite a while to figure out that the first playthrough was "watch and learn" and then the second was "now your turn". I think it's a good idea, mechanically, but the mechanic isn't well conveyed to players yet.
Thanks for the game!
This game is pucking amazing and hilarious. The physics are perfect. I fell out of my chair laughing, the first time the announcer complimented one of my shots :)
I'm not sure why you didn't make the whole arena fit on a single screen? The scrolling was awkward at times.
Thanks for the game!
That was way more fun than I expected, and very satisfying to finally win :D
Thanks for the game!
This is a work of art.
The actual hitboxes and fighting mechanics weren't perfect, but who cares? I tripped on a roomba and was slain by ninjas at the SAME TIME!
Thanks for the game!
Now this is a golf game I can get into :)
Thanks for the fun!
I love that in "chill" mode it's just a fishing game where I need to drive to a new fishing hole every 30 seconds or so :)
I love the absurdity of playing a text game through a point&click interface (and with voice acting! Ha!) Nice :)
I got stuck really quickly, unfortunately, so I don't know how many more silly/absurd jokes I missed.
Thanks for the game!
What a blast to play! The controls were definitely a bit wonky at times, but worth it. I really hope you polish and fine-tune this, it's a fantastic idea :)
Thanks for the game!
I enjoyed this as a fun, straightforward shmup. I quite liked the music, too :)
I have to admit that I didn't really "get" the card aspect. If I understood correctly, each card represented the only "action" I would be able to perform (w/spacebar) until the next selection? Not sure. Is there any way to "combine" card actions, or upgrade the ship over time?
Thanks for the game!
Loved your sound effects :)
Thanks for the game!
Very impressive first effort, and a cool game. The NPC art was excellent.
Well done!
Super fun game and cool idea. Physics were weirdly floaty but fine once I got used to them.
Thanks for the game!
