Cool. I liked how the missiles travel in an arc.

simonhutchinson 2016-08-28 20:53

Whoa. Super fun. Very visually appealing especially in merging the different art styles.

drcicero 2016-08-28 21:14

music, sounds, graphics, etc. looks really cool :)

i found it a bit mean, that you have to start over. i got to level 7 by randomly clicking ^^ and i do not feel like playing again to see the ending, because up to then it would be no challenge, followed by a single chance to continue or redo everything again - maybe it would fit in with the rest of the game better if you were able to replay the level?

i also liked the texts between the mission very much. compared to the game itself the texts were less 'polished'. i could image it would have fit the game, if the texts were not displayed as a block of text, but maybe broken in three parts, that are shown sequentially and where you would click through like textboxes in rpg. additionally i can imagine that rotating and squeezing the dino while talking would have been easy and nice! weeeee :)

anyway, great work!

kevkevonfire 2016-08-29 04:48

Loved the polish and style. Humor was also excellent. Mechanics could use adjustment. Game was trivial to beat by spamming clicks at the top of the screen as fast as possible.

zulman 2016-08-29 11:32

Hi guys, thank you so much for the feedback :)

@DrCicero - fixed, now you're able to replay the failed level
@KevKevOnFire - spam is not the strategy anymore, now weapon is able to overheat :)

diegoctorguet 2016-08-29 11:54

Great music, art and fx. Awesome job!

ido_king 2016-08-29 13:56

very good game i like the idea and the art style

spinach_chicken 2016-08-29 14:05

I love the graphics and the explosions... and the title, and the dinosaurs, and the story... shoot. I love everything about this game. Great job!

edve98 2016-08-29 17:16

Awesome visuals and sounds! Sadly I find it pretty hard to play on laptop's touchpad. I think it would be awesome if you could shoot not only by clicking mouse but lets say spacebar too :)

tenpn 2016-08-29 17:45

Very slick! Maybe make the first level a little longer and less dangerous, to let us get the hang of the controls?

zulman 2016-08-29 17:54

@tenpn thank you for the feedback! Sorry, help me to understand the problem, do you have any difficulties with controls at first 4 levels or just suggesting to make 1st level longer?

binaryprovider 2016-08-29 17:54

Great game, I really like the tone in the game, but damn I got angry with that Dinosaur :)

Well done!

marta-viader 2016-08-29 18:57

Cool graphics!

2016-08-29 19:04

story is awesome!

bogden 2016-08-29 19:10

Dinobook's logo starts with an F. Literally unplayable.

No but really, this is definitely my favorite game of the Jam so far. Graphics, Audio, Humor, and Gameplay are all super on point. Awesome take on the classic missle defender.

The explosions feel amazing too, so big kudos on whoever made those effects!

Minor critiques:
"Missile range" upgrade effect was unclear. Did it mean explosion radius?
Being unable to switch around upgrades made it feel kinda bad when losing a level multiple times.

misspeld-games 2016-08-29 19:13

I really liked every aspect of this game, the graphics, the music, the gameplay and the story! Nice work!

bog13 2016-08-29 20:01

Awesome graphics, awesome gamefeel, awsome music !
The game is really cool. The bonus "+missiles" is a bit overpowered though.

josho 2016-08-29 23:48

Awesome game and i loved the graphics, im not entirely sure what the +missle range did though it looked like the missiles could go all over the screen

guennor 2016-08-30 04:19

The effects are awesome.

Not sure about what missile range increase does. Also at least on web version it's possible to see the "seam" of the tile to the left of earth's sprite.

peachtreeoath 2016-08-30 05:49

Extremely solid game, all the juice feels just right.

2016-08-30 08:19

Hi, nice game and congratulations !it's like the dinosour of google (when a user hasn't the connection XD ) Simple mechanics that still offered a decent amount of challenge. We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description. (you can already find several games from the jam there)

lonesurvivor 2016-08-30 08:54

Funny game, good work! The music and the sounds are nice. The game becomes pretty hard at stage 6, couldn't make it past it.

leaden 2016-08-30 21:11

Moar particles!

jelinib 2016-08-31 02:46

Juicy game; the explosions feel great!

On my first go around, I was stuck on level 8/10 for the longest time, usually dying with about 10 seconds left... But with some dumb luck, I eventually got past that! I think my main problem was that I had put too many points in +Range, which unfortunately seems to make the missiles just curve right around the asteroids that need to die the most! I eventually got to level 10 on that run, but after that, I tried another run with getting as much in +Missiles as I could and doing +Speed when I didn't have the choice, and that journey to level 10 went much more smoothly.

Maybe an upgrade to throw extra ice packs on the missile launcher to make it overheat slower would be nicely paired with +Range, since +Range tends to require a lot of extra missiles to hit problem asteroids.

This game really makes me question my existence.. Are we in a dino simulation!? How can we know!?

Awesome game! I had lots of fun! :D

zulman 2016-08-31 11:34

Thank you guys!
@lonesurvivor will fix it!
@Jelinib awesome idea, thank you! I will change +Range to +AntiHeat, and add auto rockets spread increase when taking +Rockets :)

setthebet 2016-08-31 12:06

:D I think I've seen this game from somewhere else ;)

setthebet 2016-08-31 12:37

I actually think you could tell people that you are not the author of the game (as claimed at itch.io). You're using the exact game I am livestreaming here: https://www.livecoding.tv/setthebet/videos/jKax8-small-game-from-scratch-gui . Not even replacing art, explosions, changing stroboeffect, tweaking missile and the arcs.. I know my gameproject is publically out there on github for everyone to use but.. the whole game in the gamejam? Claiming yourself as author?

I also understand it's your first time creating a game in Defold but the engine is actually so simple so you could probably easily create this yourself. Or watch my stream and create anything similar.

Despite that... I like the dinosaurs.

jupiter_hadley 2016-08-31 14:16

Funny game! I included it in my compilation video series of Ludum Dare 36 games, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/VSGUm6oLKPM

zulman 2016-08-31 20:55

Hi @SetTheBet. Yes, you're right. I'll add reference to the original project. Please feel free to ask me to delete the project or particular assets or add links right inside the game to your github account or smth else. My point was to show at #GamesJamDefold that it's a good practice to start with ready small project and add to them something to compensate time of understanding new engine.

monkeybit29 2016-08-31 21:08

Really fun! I think it would make a good mobile game

nardelli 2016-08-31 21:44

Your game really rocks! This is the kind of game that I like. The casual ones hehe.
Nice sounds and good challenge!
I died at level 7
Congratulations!

setthebet 2016-09-01 04:25

@zulman : Thank you for your answer. Just a mention that the game is based on that project/my work is good enough for me. The project is open there for everyone to use. I just found it weird to be in a gamejam without any mentioning. And you are of course free to evolve the game further (that's actually appreciated) more into your own.

Brilliant lore idea about Dinos and asteroids ^D
Nice texts (I read them All). Artstyle looks a bit strange with pixelart and vector together.
Maybe you should add some bonuses and moar levels beetween easy(<5) and hard levels(6+)
Very Good Job

ghostbomb 2016-09-14 14:32

Awesome game. Great music, art, and sound design.

The meteor spawning algorithm seems to ramp up dramatically after a few seconds and send a relentless hail of meteors after sending them in one at a time for a while. I found that once this happened if you tried to actually aim at the meteors you would waste most of your missiles and overheat, but if you just fired off vaguely off into the distance, the random scattering of the missiles would hit a lot more meteors, but occasionally the smaller, faster meteors would break through, so it became kind of random.
