LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Leaving Home by sbarrio 2014-05-01T12:19:00

Thanks a lot for the comments!, I'm quite surprised by everybody's reaction considering it is my first LD submission ever :)

I have a short story in mind for the game and I'm quite motivated to finish it, so it may be done in the near future.

Thanks again!

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Omnis by bytegrove 2014-08-31T20:38:00

Incredible art direction on this one. I really like the praying ones animation and the look on the evil deity, looming ll over you at all times. Superb work!

Titania by Incredible Ape 2014-08-31T08:35:00

Really good game. The graphics are superb and everything is really polished up. I also enjoyed the music and the way the game flows.

Slowly increasing creepiness in space it's always a win by my book :D

System Divergents by Brassawiking 2014-08-31T11:57:00

Loved the audio and the hand drawn graphics. On the other hand I couldn't really tell whether I hit the enemy or not, so the whole thing felt a bit disconnected.

Worlds apart by goerp 2014-08-31T19:23:00

I just enjoyed flying around arranging the particles any way I wanted. I really digged the atmosphere and mood of it :)

Great work!

Warp Paint by zatyka 2014-09-07T15:08:00

Really well designed puzzle platformer. I enjoyed the tricky puzzles, specially the ones involving doing something really fast in a coordinated way. Great work!

Rift Knight by SecondDimension 2014-09-07T14:48:00

Great and tight controls. It just feels right to smash through things. I specially enjoyed the wall jumping, feels just like Ninja Gaiden.

Superb job! :)

REUNION by Skiddings 2014-09-05T20:57:00

Loved the art and concept. It felt rewarding when working as a team. Great entry!

Lucy Dreaming by Trilby 2014-08-31T08:22:00

Reminds me a lot to LSD on the Playstation. I liked the idea and graphics but the jumping felt a bit off and somewhat clunky. Nice job anyway :)

Cesarino's Friendly Interplanetary Delivery Service by ZYXer 2014-09-05T20:17:00

Nice game!, I like the idea and I found the star background effect to be very well done. Good job :)

ConnectTheWorlds by mrexcessive 2014-08-31T11:44:00

Fun to play. I really liked reading every planet description :)

On the edge of Earth: 5000 by Hypnohustla 2014-09-11T21:32:00

Incredible entry. My favorite so far. Loved every single detail of it, from the actual use of doors, terminals and chairs to the real gameplay. The animation is really nice and the music fits like no other would.

Congratulations on it!

P.S- Extra points for the usable bathroom!

A Planetary Guide by Alexander 2014-09-05T20:36:00

Loved the clever way of solving puzzles. The rhymes are also something to be proud of! Great work!

Wizards Gone Wild by Lizzip 2014-09-08T20:50:00

Beat the whole 10 waves :) I liked the idea and had fun playing it, but the music was really annoying after a while.

Great job!

Wizards, Portals, and Stuff by siarck 2014-08-31T08:30:00

Nice idea. I somehow managed to run out of things to kill so I couldn't do anything else :/

GET Connected by sephyka 2014-09-14T17:22:00

Really interesting idea!, I liked the graphics and mood of it. Would be fun to know where the rest of the story goes. Great work!

Universal Love by sbarrio 2014-08-24T21:47:00

Thanks!, I'm glad you are enjoying it :)

The winning conditions vary on the scenario. They appear on the top left corner of the screen right when the scenario begins.

For example, on Newb Nebula you must obtain full Health to win.
On BodyGuard Cluster you must protect Monen adn defeat WoodStoick 69 to win.

I don't have time now but I'll try to make the scenario objective more easy to see on future fixes.

Thanks a lot for your feedback!

Universal Love by sbarrio 2014-08-24T22:20:00

Yeah, I know. The desktop version runs at 640x480 by default, but I had to increase that a bit for the web version. Another fix to the list I guess :)

Thanks!

Universal Love by sbarrio 2014-08-30T21:37:00

You need to receive love to gain health. When your health is over a certain level your level will go up and so will the amount of hearts/missiles you will be able to fire at once :)

Also, if your health level drops your level will also go down!

Universal Love by sbarrio 2014-09-03T09:04:00

Sometimes the AI gets somewhat "stuck", sorry about that!. I'll try to fix it ASAP.

Glad you liked the game anyway! :)

Universal Love by sbarrio 2014-09-04T21:53:00

Thanks a lot!, actually it's two of us writing on the blog and it's my partner who loves Unity. I only have eyes for HaxeFlixel <3

Which scenario did you have problems on?

Star Trucker by Dissiden7 2014-08-31T20:27:00

I loved the slow but intense gameplay, I always seemed to be running out of blue stuff. Graphics and sound are superb, and the game has a very polished and complete feel to it.

I had a lot of fun playing it!

Robot World Hopper by Beege 2014-09-05T20:20:00

I liked it, specially the music and mood of it. It reminded me a bit of Mario Galaxy. Nice job :)

Escape From Animal Forest by Skyfish 2014-08-31T19:15:00

Great atmosphere and interesting idea. I like how you must toggle between the animals to use their strengths. Having the pressure of the bulldozer coming after you made me hurry even more than I needed.

Superb submission!

Impressive entry. Extremely polished and just plain fun to play :)

Congratulations on it!

Superb entry, great work!

A Space Trade Game by callumW 2014-08-31T11:53:00

Nature Trial by Naytron 2014-08-31T08:28:00

Duel at the Apocolypse by JBM 2014-08-31T08:27:00

Awesome graphics/music and ambience. On the other hand I couldn't try it with anyone else so I guess I'm missing the most fun part of it.

Also, when I died sometimes I got respawned on top of some flames, so I died rather fast :(

The Pike by VulpineGames 2014-08-31T08:19:00

The ambience and graphics are great, and I also loved the music. On the other hand I had a bit of trouble trying to figure out how the controls work.

Really cool graphics and animation. I loved the map screen. Gotta love haxeflixel!

Alice Anxiety by jukimv1986 2014-09-05T07:38:00

Stellarlink Corp by LTyrosine 2014-08-31T19:31:00

Pretty well done and very polished entry. It is also quite hard to play and at first I couldn't hit a single target but as I kept playing I kept getting good at it.

Really nice effort!

Schrodinghost by Carduus 2014-09-01T18:11:00

The more hair you have... by Naca 2017-12-09T16:05:59Z

Buen trabajo!

Warehouse Panic by benjamin 2017-12-04T14:27:27Z

My favourite entry so far!, amazing little game. Graphics and controls are tight, everything responds as you would think it should and I love the simple idea taken into a stressing resource control game. The only thing I would add (and this is complete nitpicking) would be a sign on top of the guy that takes an order, I ended up forgetting what should I give the guy after ordering on the phone (but this is probably intentional, I guess).

Anyway, superb entry and great job :)

Chaos Space Kitchen by seano 2017-12-08T16:48:17Z

Loved it!, great humor, funny celebration dances and sick tunes. Superb job!

Mr. Capital! by fluidvolt 2017-12-09T11:48:21Z

Amazing little platformer with a super clever idea. I'm jealous :)

Everything was spot on, the pumping music, the graphics and animation and even the end level humor. You even managed to get a proper and touching ending. The only thing I would change is to make the character have a bit less inertia so it would be easier to stop, but is is plainly nitpicking.

Superb job, this is my favourite compo entry so far. Congratulations!

Muldulamulom by mase 2017-12-08T10:07:41Z

Wow, I love the wacky and creepy art style, reminds me of games like The Neverhood. Gameplay-wise the game is interesting and well done. Best Unity-made game I've seen so far on LD40. Congratulations!

The lost strawberry by egordorichev 2017-12-04T13:20:07Z

Really well made and polished game. The music and sound effects are nice and the animations fit the aesthetics properly. Controls are a bit unresponsive at times and maybe the player moves too fast for my taste.

The real problem comes with the graphics affecting gameplay, for me, it is really hard to see what is a platform and what is not, and for example at first I got stuck until I realized i could grab onto the vines to continue crossing the initial gap. Maybe there is way too much going on on the screen at all times that makes it hard to focus on what is important.

Anyway, it is a superb entry and very skilfully created. Good job!

Famous Knight by Lucas Ferrantelli 2017-12-18T10:20:38Z

Nicely done with this one. I liked the graphics and mood. Controls felt a bit weird with the mouse but I ended up getting used to them.

Good job on your entry!

Love the graphics, nice entry!

The Adequate Shepherd by blubberquark 2017-12-13T10:57:55Z

The character's bounding box feels too big for my taste. Controls are a bit slow as well. Mac OSX build crashes.

The Adequate Shepherd by blubberquark 2017-12-15T11:47:49Z

@blubberquark Same thing as @elemel mentioned, only works when launching the sheperd executable inside the application package from the terminal. Otherwise it gives a Segmentation fault. My OSX version is 10.13.1 (High Sierra)

Thumbs up for using HaxeFlixel as well ;)

grooOW! by ladybenko 2017-12-09T09:41:09Z

Really well thought and designed game. The idea fits the theme perfectly and you have developed a very simple mechanic into a full and interesting game. Superb job. You could totally turn this into a full fledged game. Congratulations :)

SPLIT by steven-pinto 2017-12-12T08:25:27Z

Man, this is dark!

I liked the premise and concept, really something different from most games on the jam. Superb job!

In Temperance Ruin by sparewizard 2017-12-08T08:41:31Z

Really polished and well done game, I like the consistency of the style and graphics. Could use some sound (I played the LD40 version) but it is a great entry overall. Good job!

CrudeCarnageCars40 by elZach 2017-12-04T13:28:36Z

The graphics are nice and is fun to crash into things, but keeping track of who is first and having a lap limit would have made it more like a game instead of a crash simulator :)

ARTIFACTS by Fran Segura 2017-12-18T10:39:47Z

Amazing presentation (graphics and audio) for a jam game. Gameplay-wise on the other hand felt a bit short for me. Sometimes you just can't see what's below you so it feels a bit unfair when you die and in the end you have to rely on memorization to get through the level. Nice entry anyways!

Risky Robbery by Markus 2017-12-08T11:34:14Z

This is a great little entry, nice job!

Critter™ Sitter by those-30-ninjas 2017-12-07T18:10:48Z

Lovely graphics and sound, you recreated the tamagotchi experience faithfully. I love the small minigame of rock-paper-scissors. Nice job!

Objectification by CaptainDreamcast 2017-12-04T11:10:56Z

I loved this game, the writing and depictions of each different girlfriend are hilarious. Also, the fact that you released this on Dreamcast as well is amazing. Kudos to you!

P.S- Rihanna FTW!

Danmaku Burp by trabitboy 2017-12-08T11:37:47Z

Interesting take on the theme. Liked the manmade sound effects. Good job!

Between Stations by Sand-Gardeners 2017-12-18T10:57:09Z

Amazing entry that is also incredibly polished. I loved everything, from the sound design to the interesting writing. This is definitely one of the best entries I've seen so far.

Superb job!

Heavy Hearts by Badly Drawn Rod 2017-12-04T10:52:35Z

Nice entry!, the voices are quite... surprising!

Fruit Hater by SanyingLi 2017-12-07T17:51:35Z

Interesting control scheme and use of the theme. I think the camera should allow the player to see a bit more further and it should also travel faster, sometimes it feels like you are leaping into the complete unknown. Nice job anyways :)

Stand your ground by GistNoesis 2017-12-04T12:07:29Z

Interesting take on the theme. The controls are a bit stiff but they are precise. You can even shoot towards the camera!

Good job!

Manystar by alexfalkenberg 2017-12-08T12:06:26Z

You should totally finish it in the next few days (talking from experience here), you will feel a ton better when the game is in the state you originally planned :)

Anyway, I liked the slippery control of the ship, and maybe it would be even more fun if you made it so that each time you shoot the ships get pushed a bit backwards, so you can get even more fine control over it just by shooting. Joy of movement, as they say.

Keep up the good work!

Metal Fear by LMB 2017-12-08T16:43:47Z

Nice job!

Retro Rocket Run! by gwolf86 2017-12-09T11:38:34Z

Nice little game. Lags quite badly on the HTML5 build, though.

Cairn by Talia 2017-12-04T13:42:12Z

Nice little game!, I like that you can try to fix your rock pile at all times and not only the last rock you added. Great entry!

Greedy Dungeon by daul 2017-12-04T12:57:59Z

Graphics are really good and everything feels really polished. My only problem came with the sword attack, is really difficult to hit what I want. Maybe having a simple 4 direction attack would have been better.

I liked how you can destroy crates, barrels and chairs. Nice little detail :)

Blob Hell by ryuzaki_mrl 2017-12-04T08:40:28Z

Nice take on the theme, and hard as hell :)

The Gravedigger by kezhaar 2017-12-04T14:01:03Z

Mmh, I don't seem to get any action out of pressing the 2 or 3 keys, are they set to the numpad keys? (I'm using a laptop).

It looks promising though, Thanks!

Vice Life by meskaline 2017-12-04T11:19:39Z

Interesting concept, would have been nice to have some sfx and music though.

Making it Hail by BalladofSong 2017-12-07T18:03:57Z

Nice character graphics. Gameplay wise is really simple, and could use with some faster movement and a more zoomed out camera. I hope yo keep working on it and make it even better :)

Crosstalk by shinyogre 2017-12-18T10:43:56Z

Interesting concept. Really stands out among more conventional games. Good work!

Mister President by Zinkler 2017-12-18T11:10:52Z

Nice entry!, interesting to see a simulation game on Ludum Dare.

GREEDY COCO! by Maroovan 2017-12-04T12:36:09Z

Really nice game and well executed. Liked how the level got increasingly harder and how you had to backtrack to get everything. The music is great as well (loved how it builds up with more voices) and the beer-machine saving mechanic was awesome.

Superb job!

The more possibilities you have the harder it gets by ImportantCreations 2017-12-04T13:53:09Z

Nice little maze game. It is well executed and flows well. Some SFX and music would have been nice, and even though I like the mouse-in-a-maze controls they can be a bit weird for some players.

Nice job!

One Big Bee by Chris Hall 2017-12-04T10:54:41Z

It looks like you could make something interesting out of this, keep working on it!

Mizu by sbarrio 2017-12-04T12:11:16Z

@captaindreamcast Thank you so very much!, I was a bit worried about balancing the difficulty but Im glad somebody managed to finish it and still got a decent challenge :)

Mizu by sbarrio 2017-12-04T13:49:26Z

@importatncreations Are you using the HTML5 build?, if so, yes, that version runs a bit choppy and slow (HaxeFlixel's support for HTML5 is still experimental). For the best performance please enable flash on your browser and play the flash version :)

Mizu by sbarrio 2017-12-09T13:33:43Z

Thanks a lot everybody for the nice and useful comments. I'm taking each one of them into account :)

@lamossus Thanks!, and yes, you are right, there is a bug right there, nice catch ;)

@rombus Thanks for playing!, and concerning the music, don't worry. I was expecting to see much more hate towards it, my music skills are non existent and I was completely amazed when some people said they actually liked it!

@lucas-ferrantelli Thanks dude!

@falak nope, the game is made using HaxeFlixel but I'm quite curious to try out Game Maker at some point as well. Also, you are right, there is a small bug with the HUD that makes it wiggle a little bit :P

@runamucker Yeah, the game might have turned out a bit harsh on players that are not used to this kind of games. I'm considering the limited checkpoint option, but I also wanted to make something challenging, so I'm not sure about the infinite lives idea. Actually, I ran out of time, but I planned extra life pickups to be hidden within the levels, so maybe you will see that in a full fledged release of the game.

@professor Thank you for playing it thoroughly!

Mizu by sbarrio 2017-12-09T14:07:23Z

@neodan Thanks for playing and your nice comment :) What you describe is really weird, and I haven't experienced it anywhere, you should be able to jump no matter what other key you are pressing. Which build of the game have you tried?

Thanks!

@jupiter-hadley just seen this, thank you so very much!

Where ma Friends at?! by Sabuzri 2017-12-09T12:52:03Z

I like the idea and the graphics as well as de overall design of everything. The controls feel a bit off to me, though.

Nice work!

Greedy Dungeons by Nils -Gecko- Munch 2017-12-07T17:45:11Z

Pretty nice game!, I like that you used some of your time to develop a properly interesting level with some real challenge and intelligent use of your own mechanics. Also, extra kudos for writing such a long and nice piece of music. Awesome job!

One Matter by toboggan 2017-12-09T09:35:11Z

Really polished and focused entry. Controls were a bit slippery for me but I managed after a few rounds. I like the concept, you should definitely continue working on it :)

Unstoppable Battle of the Neon Arena by Ragoniard 2017-12-07T18:08:09Z

Would You Like Tickets To The GUN SHOW by zaratustra 2017-12-04T11:42:50Z

Really liked the graphics and controls. I played it until the screen got completely filled with bullets an powerups. Not much of a challenge though.

Nice job!

Nice little game. I like the music!

Neon Hell by SirPumpyJam 2017-12-12T07:33:40Z

Amazing graphics and kickin' music. I think gameplay-wise could be more interesting, and I would definitely turn this into a 2D Shoot em up instead of a free roaming shooting game. In my opinion, this game needs fast scrolling speed, not having to stop to kill some ships that need a ton of shooting to be taken down.

Good job!
