In hindsight one of the bits of audio is a little hard to understand, I went overboard distorting it... if you get stuck it says your stuff is in Locker 3 lol :P
Thanks everyone! @nonetheless, I too hate holding the right mouse button however in the web player it's a bit more complex to have the looking as a toggled feature because of various issues (losing focus of window, etc.). I unfortunately I didn't have time to make it work so I just stuck with a quicker solution. I'd definitely avoid the RMB holding if I had more time :)
Thanks all for your positive feedback, as well as your constructive feedback! Definitely would like to continue it.
With regards to the theme, the idea was worlds connected through time - i.e. the past and current, through the cryonic sleep.
I actually really love this! And it seems to be procedurally generated, that is awesome. I love the quirkiness of your mission stories, the agents' interactions and the weird planet names. It is unique and genuine. The gameplay took awhile to get a hang of but it's really quite clever, definitely inspiring me to try for more interesting and challenging gameplay in my next LD. A job well done! Regards from Hellsten's colleague :P
Really cute game. I did get confused at the start as I couldn't click on the icons, for a good amount of time, and then it finally started. Graphics are really nice, parallax was cool and subtle, music was good, and the gameplay was straightforward but fun. You could do a lot more with this :) Nice job!
What a very interesting idea, I like it :) I replayed it multiple times until I got a happy ending.
A cool idea, I had a lot of fun talking with our mysterious friend - I wish he/she/it had real general AI so we can have a chat haha. Eventually I failed at the maths challenges and gave up lol. The audio was a bit annoying when it was fast and repetitive, otherwise it was good!
Such a cute game and well polished. I really love the little things you added, especially the floating poop hahahah!!! It took me ages to find out how to get the distance from Terminal C, and then I didn't know where to point the turret - I just shot randomly, and then finally noticed the planet in the background. Nicely done :)
Simple concept but still fun, gj :)
Fantastic graphics and mood. Didn't know what to do though, even after reading your tip about the stones.
Nice idea! Graphics are well done. The controls are a bit tricky while you're on the bean stalks because you can hit the leaf colliders and so on.
Interesting idea but needs a lot more polish.
Wow, I want more. Music was amazing, graphics were amazing. Even though it was very short I'm very impressed with what you managed to make in the time frame. Wish I got to rate this!
Wow, fantastic entry. The music was just lovely! Very creative gameplay, the graphics had a nice style, and the two characters were very cute. I played with myself though haha but it was still fun!! Amazing job.
Interesting idea. It gets a bit tricky with them crossing in front of each other though but that probably adds to the challenge. Nice job! Just a note, I didn't know I had to click on the main picture to start the game, I waited for a bit for something to happen or load.
Fantastic! Loved it :) Graphics were awesome, gameplay was very fun and innovative. Awesome job!
Just brilliant, amazing job!!!
Really fun! Controls were a bit tricky for me though. Audio was good, graphics were really nice, and it was fairly well polished. Good job!
Looks very nice, music was catchy, but I found the controls very difficult to use :( Also I originally couldn't see the character down the bottom as the player went below my browser height.
There didn't seem to be a clear goal other than avoiding the asteroids and picking up fuel, I think it would be more interesting if there was something you had to work towards (and do the fuel/avoiding in the meantime). Not bad though well done :)
Pressed enter to start a few times, wouldn't start. Eventually started. Game sort of began before I could realise what to do with the control instructions. The difficulty was a bit strange, the first few times I tried it, the first blocks were very close together and I kept dying. After a few tries, it started off with a much easier one where the blocks/monsters were a lot further away from each other. It makes sense to me to build up on difficulty so people can get used to the game. Once you get started though the gameplay is alright and a good challenge :)
Took awhile to get used to the controls, but eventually got the hang of it. Nice idea :)
I must be missing something... stuck on the very first level lol. I'm clicking on literally everything I can without him seeing me, and nothing is happening? That aside, the game looks gorgeous, audio is awesome and mood/humour is great.
Graphics were nice, controls were tricky, would've been better with some audio for aural feedback. Kind of wandered around until I got stuck and then died.
Thanks to everyone for taking the time to play, rate and give feedback on RELIC, I very much appreciate it and am happy that it made some of you laugh. I've read every comment back to front and wholly agree with much of the suggestions.
I'm very motivated to continue working on this little prototype and will take your feedback into consideration, including:
- more gameplay (I have a lot of ideas on ways to make it more fun and challenging, and not just a little interactive story)
- ambient audio
- more dialog options
- fix the buggy floating platforms
- ensure lava collision areas are correct
- better sprite animations
- integrate conversations into gameplay
- better death sequences
- shorten conversation speeds
As for the TTS that some of you were inquiring about, I used a website but unfortunately didn't write down which one, if I remember I shall let you know.
If any of you are interested in keeping up-to-date with the post-LD game, please follow my posts for some updates, postmortems and links to social media soon.
Good hunting,

Enthralling story/writing, and the graphics were a lovely complement. Wish it had a bit of audio to increase the mood. I enjoyed this gj :)
Found it quite hard but enjoyed the "handmade" feel of the graphics and audio :) Fun too.
Fantastic art style and quite fun and cute :) GJ.
Nice idea but a bit confusing. Wasn't sure if I had to click on the crowd or not. No indication as to when the game would end - does the crowd ever go away?
Looks lovely. Wish it were more complete!
Gives me a Bladerunner feel, amazing graphics and audio and very fun!! Well done!
Great entry - really love the switching mechanic. Very fun well done :)
Super cute and quite fun!
This was pretty fun to play, though it took a few tries to understand. Audio would make this one really spooky! A really good idea, nice job :)
Pretty fun, awesome graphics, good audio although the phone call at the start explaining the controls broke the immersion a little bit. Great job!
Amazing audio and graphics - I just wished I could get further in the game just to hear the music haha. Super fun thanks guys, gj!
Good fun and the 2D/3D still has a nice coherent art style! Well done
Fantastic mechanics and good execution!
Great graphics and quite a unique idea. I would have preferred to be able to use the mouse as it was a little slow using keys.
Thanks everyone for your feedback and playthrough of the game so far, it pleases me that so many found it enjoyable!
Addressing some specific comments:
- The speed! Yes! I was actually thinking this myself when testing but pushed it to the back of my mind while I was getting things working and forgot about it. Unfortunately didn't have anyone available to play-test the game so it was left in the final build. It's so easy for me to change, too - but I'll leave the game as-is to be fair. In the updated version (see below) I wouldn't have a speed up button, probably just have the live action done at a faster pace automatically, to be more exciting.
- Comedic tone - yes I see what you mean, but I do think that in this compo at least it added a bit more to the game, whereas a standard tone of language would have just been brushed over by most. I like to add a bit of personality into the games I make but perhaps there's a way to make it fit better with the gameplay.
- SO happy someone noticed the Firefly references! My favourite show :) High five! There are one or two other random references in there too.
- Teh bugs - oh noes. Yeppp didn't have any time for QA unfortunately haha but I'm glad the bugs are minimal so far.
- Level design - yeah I got to the point where I was tired and just wanted to go home (also why the very last one was a little trick one), so the levels may be a bit dodgy and in a weird order in terms of difficulty. Would definitely like to improve the level designs.
As for continuation, yes I definitely want to continue working on this one, I'll make a post about it soon!
Thanks again :)
Clever idea and a fun little game!
Super funny lmao, the voice acting!! Great concept and lots of fun!
