Hey, I feel like this idea is similar to mine. I like the way you executed the police capture and the game's mood it's really fun and goofy. The graphics are simple and fun as well as the music.
Damn you unreliable Eddy! Fun game!
Really loved the game! fun visuals, entertaining and somewhat intense gameplay. well done!
Good job!
Wow, you made yourself a fun, fully fleshed out game that fit the theme well! I even think the programmer art actually makes the game more amusing. Seeing Unreliable Eddy drag across the screen (instead of trot) made me chuckle as did reading the instruction screen. I thought the music fit the western backdrop and I appreciated the little detail that it changed when the cops saw me.
As for the bad, I did encounter a bit of clipping around doors, but nothing too evil. Also, I kind of wish those instructions were forced on me the first time I tried playing. Going in blind it was easy enough to figure out what to do, but, it would have been nice if I knew where to take my loot once I had it. Or maybe I should have just read your full LD blog entry, lol
Overall, great job!
Took me a while to figure out what I was supposed to do ; the main character is slow as hell, it could have been fun to increase the ratio between the "normal" walking speed and the "loaded" walking speed. I also liked how the (good) music changed depending on the presence of a sherif.
And LOL for the punchy animation when you get busted!
Neat little game. The main mechanic and general idea is definately the strong point of the game. The programmer art actually adds a weird feel to this game (it's a good feel). The music I found was slightly repetitive but didn't get in the way too much. Something that somewhat bothered is the fact that the sherrifs don't care to stop when your unloading your gold! Otherwise a very solid game that has a great future if there were more features and a bit more polish. Well Done!
Really fun, Good Job.
I was a bit annoyed by the drop feature, it's a bit too random ^^
So far, yours was the most fun game I tried :) Personally I think you would have done good to add a tiny bit of animation. Something like make the legs wiggle a bit while walking.
I was very impressed by the music, but the sound effects (picking up loot) were a bit annoying. Still, great fun.
Pretty good, I really felt that the player movement needed to be a lot faster (even with the bags to make it more fun) and just overall more fast paced, just increase the speed of all characters by x2 would have made it much more fun i think. I thought the art was actually pretty good, only missing animations, even really basic scissoring the legs for walking would have made it feel a lot better. The music was ok, but needed smoothing out for the transitions between normal and being followed, obviously some other instruments would have been nice too. Overall pretty good though, I played it till I managed to get everything.
This was good, I liked the graphics and running from the cops. Would drop gold again.
Don't worry about the art. It's fine. Movement speed could have been a bit faster and maybe adding consider adding a walking animation.
Also, you should add some sort of indicator to show that a sheriff is chasing you. Maybe add an exclamation point on their head. The music transition is a good way to tell whether you're safe or not but I think that it'd be a nice touch.
I liked the puzzle element of it, was interesting scanning for sheriffs amonst the civilians. I liked that civilians could block you and make you drop your loot too. Having music change when enemy is heading for you is nice touch, despite a little repetitive but I don't blame you - it's a jam! One gripe would be that the screen scrolls northwards a little slow, which made runnning north a bit of a gamble. Also, I'd like unreliable Eddie to stand out a little more - other than just not having the white thing on the back of the cart! Good entry! <3
@formalcloud, @nate-wec, @backyard-dev, @shelvid, @sbarrio, @fussenkuh, @ace17, @call-me-nutty, @kef, @videojames - Thank you all for playing the game, and especially for the kind words and critiques!
@ohmi - You're the first person to call one of my LD games their 'favorite'! Thanks! I really like your game, Fast Frontier, I've gone back to play it twice since I rated it. If you update it with more missions, please be sure to tell me!
@automatonvx - Thanks for the compliments and feedback! Yea I definitely feel like the game needs some animations.
@fahim-faysal - Thanks for the kind words! I definitely see what you mean about adding a visual indicator for when the sheriffs start chasing you. It can be frustrating when they just sort of emerge out of a pack of civilians and nab you
@honest-dan - Thanks so much for the compliments and critique. After reading your comment, I tested it out and realized that the camera scrolls slowly whenever its against one of the boundaries (there is a physics body attached to the camera, held in check by 4 invisible walls, to keep it from showing half a blank screen). The friction caused by the camera's body sliding against the boundary boxes is what causes the slowdown. I should definitely fix this in a post-jam update. Thanks for the spot!
Fun little game, and actually a similar concept to my own "My Nuts Weigh Me Down". The music is well suited and makes it easy to know when you are being chased. The sheriff having no collisions with the townsfolk is fair enough, but it feels unfair when they run through wagons. The speed seems a little slow though, but luckily los evasions allow for quicker escapes. Technically, the doorframes have the wrong depth. In Gamemaker it's solved by assigning each object a depth according to their y value, like depth = -y. I'm sure unity has a similar method. Anyway, fun little game, with all the boxes ticked, well done.
@nick-rafalski Thanks for the kind words :) I am still working on the game and will certainly put it on the play store for android after the rating is done.
Looting is fun, so it's a good basis for a game. I like the graphics, though some animation would be nice. The music is fine, even though it repeats quite quickly. I like how the music was situational, really adds to the atmosphere. Some way of distracting the sheriffs would be good, plus it would add to the depth of the gameplay. It wasn't clear to me that the vaults didn't work until you had all the other loot first, so that was a bit frustrating. The camera is an issue, the borders it follows the player at should be bigger, as it would often lead to you not being able to see what was ahead of you - so if you then hit a sheriff just as you could see them, if felt like a cheap loss.
@ohmi - great, I look forward to seeing it!
@kodiqi - Thanks for playing and leaving such great feedback! You're spot on about the camera (I've fixed it in a post-jam version already). The safes can be grabbed at any time, but they fill up 100% of your bag, so if you are carrying anything else, you won't pick it up. The whole 'weight' system is not explained anywhere, so that's a failing of the game for sure.
I definitely like the concept of the game, you can never go wrong with a good heisting. I liked the layout of the town and there was a nice variety in the placement of the walls and cops for the chases. I think I had the same qualms as other people. The slowness is somewhat tolerable but it's a pretty big drag when you need to bring loot down from the top of the entire map. You can always outrun the cops once you let go of things so the game is more of an exercise in patience. For a non-artist you did quite well. The characters look prison architectish, and I could see the extra effort you put into things such as the main menu.
@peachtreeoath - Thanks so much for playing the game and leaving great feedback! I agree the game can get kind of tedious, especially on the medium/hard levels where you have to make a ton of trips. Thanks for the Prison Architect comparison, I take it as a great compliment!
It would be more fun if you were faster than 1cm/h even without loot. Also the positioning of the sherrifs seems to be highly randomized and therefore unfair in some situations. Other than that it's a cool idea and the art style is absolutely fitting ;)
