I love the concept!

dr-v 2017-12-04 09:06

Nice to see a concept I haven't come across before. Nicely executed and integrated mechanically with the rest of the game.

filipe-leal 2017-12-04 10:37

Good concept! :)

falk-bruskeland 2017-12-04 10:40

Nice game!

backyard-dev 2017-12-04 10:54

Nice and innovative concept. I like it.

badly-drawn-rod 2017-12-04 11:10

That is both innovative and a great take on the theme. Nicely done!

ysty 2017-12-04 11:24

A really good use of the theme, very tightly executed.

meskaline 2017-12-04 11:37

Love the concept, GJ!

gistnoesis 2017-12-04 11:50

Congratulations for fitting the theme well. Nice electronic music. You even took care of the little details like adding some sonic shoes to your slow bucket. I enjoyed the waterfall you must pass quickly mechanic. Overall good game. Extra Kudos for writing the controls on the walls :)

captaindreamcast 2017-12-04 12:01

Those spoons in the last level were brutal. Well placed, that last one nearly took all my lives.

It was really well-designed all around considering you only had 48 hours. Probably the best use of the theme I've seen yet.

sbarrio 2017-12-04 12:11

@captaindreamcast Thank you so very much!, I was a bit worried about balancing the difficulty but Im glad somebody managed to finish it and still got a decent challenge :)

importantcreations 2017-12-04 13:46

Nice Style & Concept. But the game is a little bit slow, isn't it?

sbarrio 2017-12-04 13:49

@importatncreations Are you using the HTML5 build?, if so, yes, that version runs a bit choppy and slow (HaxeFlixel's support for HTML5 is still experimental). For the best performance please enable flash on your browser and play the flash version :)

zapakitul 2017-12-04 13:58

The concept is amazing! I didn't understand the first X prompt since I passed through the water fall straight. The first button was my clue I had to fill myself with water to pass the puzzle (I initially thought water was only there to hinder me). When I saw the fire I thought: Waaait a minute, don't tell me you can throw the water to turn it off and lo-and-behold! Great concept and good match with the theme! Loved it!

Jumping is a bit weird but great experience overall!

cptalbertwesker 2017-12-04 14:04

Such a cute game! Really nice use of the concept too! The music fitted really nice, didn't get too repetitive at all :) the mix of puzzle with jumping and having too much water to jump worked fantastically!

priweejt 2017-12-04 14:05

Really nice :) The difficulty is just fine, and the general concept is great as well.

elzach 2017-12-04 14:11

Hey man, sweet game. I really like how you designed basically oldschool mario levels around the water mechanic. It's quite a feet to pull of this level of coherency.

Also sweet tilesets - although I feel your maincharacter would have profited from lighter outlines.

are-sundnes 2017-12-04 14:20

Nice idea and art! I find the physics a bit floaty and filling the bucket a bit slow (but might just be the HTML since you said it was slow). Like that it heavier when filled up :)

nikchernyakov 2017-12-04 17:56

Nice and at the same time a bit hard game with interesting and attracting idea.

But I would like to make some remarks. The game matches the theme, but I think it'll be nice to make process of wasting water more difficult or interesting, for example, make this skill available not during whole game. I mean it is not good when you can remove "heavy" effect at any time so you can't feel that "the more you have, the worse it is".

And about music. In the beggining of the game I'd like to mark it highly but on the third level it becomes a bit annoying. Composition is very good, so what about creating some music variety in the future?

eerongal 2017-12-05 02:15

interesting platformer. I like the concept, and it definitely has potential. It's pretty tough, though.

randomphantom 2017-12-07 14:48

This was a well executed concept! I think its a little unforgiving though, with the lives and game over. Also not sure how much water is required to activate the switches (or I might have missed a hint). Graphics and music went well with the game, but the level design is pretty great.

gwinnell 2017-12-07 18:32

Would have been nice if the character filled faster, but also possibly more gradually -- variable rather than in 3 or 4 incremented steps? I felt the filling-up sfx didn't fit with everything else too. Otherwise I enjoyed it!

belowparallel-ian 2017-12-07 23:56

Great concept. Very unique. The levels are well designed, which makes the game fun to play. The controls could be tighter, but this game works well as a proof of concept.

mase 2017-12-08 00:25

The scenario is cute and the levels are coherently designed. I just wish there were checkpoints; I became frustrated after falling back to the beginning of the third level.

alexfalkenberg 2017-12-08 11:53

Great game! Had a lot of fun playing it, and now I want to make a similar game. :) I like the levels you had, the style and mood was very cute and fun and playful. I second the checkpoints idea--although used sparingly imo. Or some other mechanic that removes any need for them. Please keep working on this! Congrats on a great game and have a great LD! :)

mcjammydodger 2017-12-08 12:07

The look of the game was great, I enjoyed the music too. The game was fun to play. The water filling mechanic was great and the different puzzles were interesting.

I wasn't very good at some of the puzzles, but I don't think that's the games fault, it's just my lack of skill. Having to start the whole game again when out of lives was a bit annoying as I wanted to see new levels but the only way to do that was to repeat levels I already did.

The game is good overall though. Good entry!

hugimugi7 2017-12-08 13:53

Really cool mechanic, and I like the sfx! Good job!

lmb 2017-12-08 15:44

This one was fun to play! Congrats! Music was good, graphics too (in their own way :-)) A nit glitchy here and there, but overall runs nicely and is bug-free. Funny idea, too! One of my favorite entries from the compo!

lukbebalduke 2017-12-08 16:35

Yeah, I've just finished the game!

There is one specific point I would like to comment on your game: you did a neat job **creating a lot of complexity from limited content**, the game has a few platform mechanics and a core mechanic (that is actually very good too) and from that, you extrapolated a bunch of cool stuff in your levels! I really did appreciate your job!

budgiem2 2017-12-08 17:27

You were very creative with this simple mechanic. I love the level design! It just seemed a bit too brutal restarting when you run out of lives

sfbtom 2017-12-08 17:30

This game is really charming and well executed! Felt great to play, the mechanic was really clear - I like that you had just a few fullness states instead of a large range, that helped to make it obvious how high I could jump. Great work!

potti 2017-12-08 19:18

Really interesting concept. Very self explanatory. A very good submission.

ladybenko 2017-12-08 23:09

Nice mechanic, it fits the theme well. The controls were a bit hard for me, but I still enjoyed the game.

toboggan 2017-12-09 00:25

Really cool idea. It could do with some superficial polish and the controller could feel better, but IMO this is a great idea and set of consequences and is worth making into a 10-hour game.

p.s. Nice touch building the tutorial into the world instead of UI prompts.

tulipekoni 2017-12-09 12:09

Nice entry! the game fits the theme very well! I felt that the game punishes the player a bit too much. some type of checkpoint system inside the levels wouldn't hurt. I liked the graphics and the music. Its pity that you're not able to kill those forks (enemies) with anything (It would have been fun just to jump on top of them to kill'em). Good job!

decipator 2017-12-09 12:23

I've felt playing an old atari game or something. This was really enjoyable and bring me alot of good memories. Nice to see this entry.

lamossus 2017-12-09 12:24

Good game, especially audio and level design! I didn't finish the game tho, after getting the game over screen I didn't really want to replay the same levels again. (Also if you jump on a platform on level 2 while it's going up you will go right through it)

rombus 2017-12-09 12:35

Fun game here! And it has a unique take on the theme. Congrats!

I don't want to be rude but I didn't like the music x_x

crdmrn 2017-12-09 12:36

I like the concept, though I couldn't really get if the shot changed it's strength depenfing from the amount of water carried... As with many jam games which include puzzle/level design, it has a lot to improve on that (but given the short amount of time it's understandable) :) Keep on the good work!

lucas-ferrantelli 2017-12-09 12:52

Nice game dude ! I like the concept, and I've felt playing an old game from the 90', thats was a great experience, thank you dude !!

falak 2017-12-09 12:56

Good entry. I like the gameplay and the idea of use a theme are good. The HUD is strange, it moving XD I have a question. The game was programmed in game maker?

2017-12-09 12:57

Excellent and original concept! Also appreciate the creative puzzle design and tutorial style.

Having five different movement physics depending on the cup's water level is a really nice touch.

I suck at jumping accuracy in platformers in general, so I died a lot and couldn't progress far. I don't think the game would lose anything if there were unlimited lives AND some checkpoints. It would make it more attractive to the many players like me who never finished Super Mario 3's level 8 without the raccoon suit.

I often mixed up Z and X, so I'd rethink the controls if you decide to continue development.

professor 2017-12-09 13:21

This was a really neat concept. I played the game for around 15 minutes and found myself enjoying it throughout. I especially liked that the levels were designed in such a way that the 'cup filling' mechanic had to be used to solve them. Thanks for submitting.

sbarrio 2017-12-09 13:33

Thanks a lot everybody for the nice and useful comments. I'm taking each one of them into account :)

@lamossus Thanks!, and yes, you are right, there is a bug right there, nice catch ;)

@rombus Thanks for playing!, and concerning the music, don't worry. I was expecting to see much more hate towards it, my music skills are non existent and I was completely amazed when some people said they actually liked it!

@lucas-ferrantelli Thanks dude!

@falak nope, the game is made using HaxeFlixel but I'm quite curious to try out Game Maker at some point as well. Also, you are right, there is a small bug with the HUD that makes it wiggle a little bit :P

@runamucker Yeah, the game might have turned out a bit harsh on players that are not used to this kind of games. I'm considering the limited checkpoint option, but I also wanted to make something challenging, so I'm not sure about the infinite lives idea. Actually, I ran out of time, but I planned extra life pickups to be hidden within the levels, so maybe you will see that in a full fledged release of the game.

@professor Thank you for playing it thoroughly!

neodan 2017-12-09 13:57

Hey there! Nice game, the concept is interesting in itself, and the level designing is well thought around the mechanics :p Unfortunately, i don't know if it's because of my computer or not, but the controls were not that reactive? Had to release my arrow keys to actually be able to jump :'( thus i couldn't go past level 2 on the big waterfall side :/ too bad that i couldn't see more of it because of this^^" Nice submit overall!

sbarrio 2017-12-09 14:07

@neodan Thanks for playing and your nice comment :) What you describe is really weird, and I haven't experienced it anywhere, you should be able to jump no matter what other key you are pressing. Which build of the game have you tried?

Thanks!

neodan 2017-12-09 14:16

Lol that’s a fast reply :p Well, i actually tried it on the html5 version you submitted I hope that it’s just me having a bad luck with my laptop tho x)

ariake81 2017-12-09 15:02

great concept and good graphics too!

falak 2017-12-09 15:57

@sbarrio Well I asked because I had similar problem in GM and I fixed it.

naca 2017-12-11 16:45

Very original idea :) There are many platformer games on the compo, but this one is the best I've played so far. Water-fill mechanic gives an special touch and level design is superb. The game is well designed and balanced. And the two last levels are really intense!! Well done!

steven-pinto 2017-12-12 08:09

Really well done! I had fun playing and very innovative concept with good LD. I also like the character, which is cute and good feed back with the animations :) Pls feel free to play and rate my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/split

magicdidac 2017-12-12 09:11

Hey dude! I feel the movement a little bit slowly when you don't have any water. Anyway nice job! Congratulations and good luck!

yohoho-games-2 2017-12-12 09:40

main hero is best of concept)) simple and nice graphic of course

blakemcdeezy 2017-12-12 10:11

haha, that was super cute and the puzzles were really well designed! A very enjoyable game!

neowhoru 2017-12-12 11:43

Great Idea - i really enjoyed the gameplay :)

maybe 2017-12-12 11:51

Cool mechanic, nice level design. It was a nice idea, I just think that the more water you fill the more power you should have.

I enjoyed the game =)

blubberquark 2017-12-12 12:55

Maybe look into setting scrollfactor for your HUD instead of whatever you're doing now. I don't normally like the feel of the controls when you follow the standard HaxeFlixel platformer tutorial, but with your theme of getting fuller and slower it makes sense. The background graphics were sometimes confusing, because I couldn't tell if it was a difference in background color or a wall.

lieropart 2017-12-12 13:55

Interesting concept! Lots of possibilities with the mechanic. It's kind of like a 2D Super Mario Sunshine. Maybe it would be spectacular if you could spit some of your water like a supersoaker or something like that, to use as a weapon as well as a puzzle mechanic. Feedback: The first part of second level was really frustrating to me. The part where you have to collect the water where the enemy is walking, maybe I had the wrong idea that my glass had to be completely full to be able to press the switch, haven't tried it halfway-full. Maybe I just suck at this kind of game but I kept dying there and stopped playing. :( Overall great job keep up the good work!

twotwentyfour 2017-12-12 20:07

Awesome concept. I love the way you hide the tutorial in the back ground. Very clever. And great sound track too. The art style, simple as it is, works perfectly with this theme. Was there a way to defeat the forks? I tried throwing water on one but it did nothing so I spent the rest of the time avoiding ahem.

All in all, great game.

sparewizard 2017-12-14 14:58

Great concept, some of the puzzles and levels are quite good, and really connected with the theme. But, my least favourite platformer trope: spikes are instant kill on touch, even if you aren't moving into the pointy bit.

Also, I don't think it's a good idea to have a limited amount of lives, and a level that can kill you in a second if you don't move. Perhaps you could add checkpoints to a level, and if you run out of lives, you restart from that level?

2018-02-23 13:59

Nice concept! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJp29JpDY1Y

sbarrio 2018-04-20 12:29

@jupiter-hadley just seen this, thank you so very much!
