LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

All Day I Dream About Eyeballs by uvwar 2017-12-10T02:12:08Z

I think this one hit the theme the best out of all the other games I've played so far. Thank god you put in the mini map otherwise this thing would be quite challenging. Though for weirdness sake I kind of what a version with out it.

Great entry.

Stressumo by Felegz 2017-12-12T20:31:47Z

It wasn't a bad game. I think it's strongest soot is having to maintain positional awareness when shooting the enemies. I got caught several times surrounded and in a corner. I'm not sure if there was something wrong with my system but I didn't hear any sound. Maybe it was supposed to be this way.

All in all it was a great entry and I'm sure it was a fantastic way to learn p5js.

Good job.

Factory Panic by Chronosv2 2017-12-08T02:37:47Z

I had to actually pull my self away from this game. Awesome job. I thought at first it wasn't very easy seeing what patterns needed to be matched and which were more valuable but after a few play throughs it became pretty intuitive. A lot of fun. Good job.

Booyah Bass by Caffeinated Psychics 2017-12-13T21:53:21Z

Awesome! I didn't do so well my first run through. But I got the hang of it. I really enjoyed the challenge. The art style is also really going somewhere. It reminds me of the old cartoon Swat Cats with a little Heathcliff mixed in.

Great job!

Phaeria's Mine by AVAVT 2017-12-12T20:25:50Z

This could be a real game. With a few refinements I would play it for hours. Or hop in for a few minutes on a daily basis. I love the pixel art aesthetic. The systems and characters go well together with the minimalist art style. And good sound track too, very haunting.

Great entry.

Ludum Dart by kbjwes77 2017-12-05T03:26:42Z

Awesome idea. Love having to time the shots once the board starts really moving.

Mana4Life by dawik9000 2017-12-12T20:36:21Z

I really can't believe you made something this complete in such a short time. How long have you been using Unreal?

That chicken dance spell is by far the best thing I've seen the entire jame.

Good job.

Jewel Shadow by dimesto52 2017-12-09T05:28:00Z

I had a clean initial run through. Got to the end I assume. I just jammed on the mouse button to run straight through each level. The movement system is a neat concept. I wish there where instructions. It's not immediately intuitive. And after my second run through I hit a bug. I made it to the stair case in the first room. It was green and I clicked and clicked but it would not load the next level. I tried backing off and going back in but it seemed like I was stuck. No ghosts loaded either. But all in all good entry.

Depth Crawler by Nick Kane 2017-12-05T04:23:24Z

I agree @botreats. Not bad when starting to move but start to feel like a hover craft moving at break neck speeds. Other than that I'm a sucker for top down procedural shooters. I didn't think the enemies were too easy to kill per say. It would be cooler to get some kind of snappy feed back from it though. I understand, no time for polish. I had the same problem in mine. The grid lines were a little distracting but I assume thats just for dev purposes.

All in all good job.

Zbluch! by Mowztouch 2017-12-05T04:10:16Z

I did enjoy playing your game. Great assets. It's a cool concept and I'd like to see what would happen if the mechanics were fully realized. It didn't seem to matter if the Zbulch's ate or not. And I don't think the predators reacted to the water. I wound up clicking on the end point from the start and just watching them all run for it. It was kind of cool seeing which ones were going to be picked off. I think I usually saved at least 14. All in all good job.

Usagi Story by hatchet 2017-12-07T00:24:41Z

Excellent entry. I can see this being a legit mobile or browser game. It was painful having when you nerf the speed of the player. All in all good game.

Then The Table Laughed by nono 2017-12-08T23:38:07Z

So I played this game by myself. I'm sure a lot of people did. I wonder if they had as much fun? I loved the environment and the aesthetic. The snappiness of the arrow smashing props was great as well as lunging at the player with the props, the way he explodes into chunks. I do wish there was a way to recover arrows or maybe a refill station. Really this might not help the actual game. I just kept refreshing after I would run out so I could keep firing away at random props. It was very satisfying.

Great entry.

Coin Collector by dafunk 2017-12-05T03:33:30Z

Cool little concept. I'm sure you learned a lot on this one. I like the procedural terrain and I love the soundtrack. But I couldn't figure out how to keep my speed up. It seemed like the fire caught me around the same spot every time.

Coin Collector by dafunk 2017-12-05T03:41:20Z

Oh dang. Alright. I'm sure I missed that somewhere. That's awesome.

Mizu by sbarrio 2017-12-12T20:07:50Z

Awesome concept. I love the way you hide the tutorial in the back ground. Very clever. And great sound track too. The art style, simple as it is, works perfectly with this theme. Was there a way to defeat the forks? I tried throwing water on one but it did nothing so I spent the rest of the time avoiding ahem.

All in all, great game.

Too Much Time [LD40] by prxmer 2017-12-05T07:31:27Z

I like your idea. I didn't really like how slow it seemed to be. Moving I mean. I suppose it help with the smaller rooms. I like the Hot Shot look though. Good job.

Sleepy Fighter Pilot by TwoTwentyFour 2017-12-05T03:20:43Z

Thanks for the feed back. I thought it might play as an endless runner. Kind of see how long you can go with out dieing kind of thing. It is rough, I know. I'm still surprised I actually made it in on time. Thanks again.

Sleepy Fighter Pilot by TwoTwentyFour 2017-12-05T04:48:31Z

Putting a cool down on the E button was the last thing I wanted to do but ran out of time. I just figured oh well. I did not, however, it would cause you to clip through other objects though. Thanks for the heads up.

Sleepy Fighter Pilot by TwoTwentyFour 2017-12-05T16:25:32Z

Yeah I had the enemies track the x value of the player and didn't compensate for how fast the player could turn left and right. As a result the enemies would sometimes catch up to your z value and then slowly start to drift towards your x. Since they were already parallel along the z axis they seem to pop up out of nowhere, from the left or right. I might go back and put a fix in for that.

Thanks for the feed back!

Sleepy Fighter Pilot by TwoTwentyFour 2017-12-07T00:27:05Z

Thanks for the feedback. I have been thinking about going back in and tweaking some things and of course fixing some of the more atrocious bugs.

Sleepy Fighter Pilot by TwoTwentyFour 2017-12-07T17:52:15Z

Thanks for the feed back @chemOpren. I'm working on fixing that as well as maybe spoofing up the game play a little.

Sleepy Fighter Pilot by TwoTwentyFour 2017-12-09T02:38:53Z

Thank you so much @diffy for the thoughtful feed back. I'm currently working on a post LD40 version that should address your suggestions. I had a great time playing around with the games perspective and I know it would only help by having some more visuals to complete the effect.

Thanks again.

Sleepy Fighter Pilot by TwoTwentyFour 2017-12-12T19:59:28Z

@illabom @sbarrio @mainghia95 @felegz @dawik9000

Thank you all for the feed back. I did have a much more flushed out idea in mind when I set out to nail down this premise. Obviously I feel quite short. As for the theme, the idea was the more coffee you drank the hard it would be to shoot down the enemies. That was a bit of a fail as well. Since the gun uses a hit scan and the reticle is mounted to the players view, no matter how shaky the screen gets it's always a breeze shooting the enemies down.

These faults aside I had a blast working on it and I can't wait for the next LD.

I have been playing around with the idea of going back after LD40 ends and fixing the bugs and finalizing and polishing 'Sleepy Fighter Pilot' but I don't know.

Thanks again to everyone for the feed back.

Sleepy Fighter Pilot by TwoTwentyFour 2017-12-14T01:27:48Z

That you so much for the feed back @nokusu. Ad hoc art assets aside, I did have fun playing with the concept. I do need to go back in and smooth out the very rough edges. As well, there are somethings just flat out missing from the game. I am curious about the perspective though and would like to make something using this fake 3D motion that's a little bit more worth the players time.

Thank you all for the feed back. If I do get around to messing with this again I will take everyone's suggestions on board.

Sleepy Fighter Pilot by TwoTwentyFour 2017-12-21T04:53:44Z

That's a very fare assessment. It was one of the more significant short comings of this LD for me, not finishing the core concept of the game. I will be going back in and finishing up the project once LD40 wraps up.

Thanks for the feed back.

Bo Jackson in The Temple of Ming by Nodine 2017-12-10T00:21:50Z

Awesome game. And awesome sound track. I ran on forever. Is the terrain continuously generated? I was hoping to find some grand finale. Like maybe a gigantic vase that shatters as soon as you approach it. I thought the slow mo effect was cool when the bullets got close. But after a while it could be a bit much. Just felt like I was walking through syrup. Especially since I took to the strategy of leaving vases behind and running for my life.

Awesome game, awesome entry.
