Shall they up? by LeReveur 2017-12-13T14:25:24Z
I was a bit confused at first, but once I started to understand it I had more fun! Cool concept!

I was a bit confused at first, but once I started to understand it I had more fun! Cool concept!
Finally, a game that is relevant to my life! Haha, I had fun with this. It was a really cool mechanic and fit the theme perfectly. I agree with what @randomhuman said, it would be great if the rumba had a bit more 'purposeful randomness'
Fun game! Cool how the sheep would evolve/go through cycles. I noticed that sometimes the angry rams wouldn't change sprites, so they would look just like normal rams and you would only know that they were harmful when you tried to eat them. Aside from that confusion though, I had fun - lots of sheep to dodge.
Wow...this game is the real deal! Fantastic and innovative puzzles, great story, music...Yeah, well done!
Haha, that game was cute! I loved the racoon, and the physics of the boxes was fantastic! It was a really cool mechanic. I ended up being crushed by landing on top of the boulder, and that made me giggle for a bit. I know it was a glitch, but I really enjoyed it :)
haha, I liked it :) The look of the game worked well, and it was fun pouring ice cream. I also fell victim to the ice cream cone off the screen,
I had no issues installing the game - it worked fine for me! Game itself was fun! Loved the art / colour theme. Grappling hook games are innately cool. Yeah, as others have said, the grapple mechanic needed more polish (and I would have liked to have seen more of it), but all in all, a great and fun game. Nicely done!
I turned down the volume to help me cope, haha. Cool, responsive controls! I also just loved the smoke effect from the car. I think a higher level of zoom for the game would have worked better by bringing us a bit closer to the action. Cool obstacles!
SAAANNTAAUUUR! Christmas just got that much more awesome! There wasn't really any incentive not to just spam space bar and carpet bomb the houses, but I still had fun doing so. Great music, great visuals, and I enjoyed the game's sense of humour too
That was super cool! Those puzzles are designed really well! Plus, I liked the graphics, the humour, and the theme! Sometimes it was really difficult to get on to a platform you were next to cause the character would start moving too fast - I think this could be overcome if the character had acceleration when starting off as opposed to just always being full speed. I also loved how the coin pile bounced up and down as you did - that was a really cool effect!
I was destroyed by the difficulty, but really liked the core mechanic. I think if levels progressed with a very slow, gradual learning curve then the game would be better for it. It felt like it was too many concepts too soon at times. Regardless, interesting game, cool explosive effects, and I had fun playing it.
Woah...that was a head trip. I have never seen the guillotine used as a weapon in that way before! Creative weapons, I liked that. I found the rain really disorientating...but am guessing that was intentional.
After a bit of a downloading kerfuffle, managed to play the game! I enjoyed the mood and pixel art, and it was great to play a story game! For text, I noticed that some text was on a timer, and with other text, you would press the 'Esc' key to make it disappear. I think the method of removing text should have been consistent (esc key for all) - that way people could control for exactly how long text appears. All in all, nicely done!
Got a score of 65! Pretty proud of myself :) Loved the art style, really cool menus and layout! I really liked it.
That was fun! I struggled with the tightness of the controls a bit, but loved the gameplay, good difficulty progression, how you introduced concepts, and that death animation was really cool. Also, I was just thinking...vampires should live in caves! I think it would make waaay more sense all things considered.
I liked the movement!I liked the music! I think what would have improved it for me was more enemy types (e.g. ones that move, or ones that fire projectiles that track you or something like that), and a certain number of lives before the game ends. The Asteroids theme is always pretty cool and it was a fun experience

I'm Mr. Meeseeks! Look at me!! Haha, I even found waldo/wally - that was cool. The pixel art was awesome! Good choice of song too. I was a bit confused at first , it would have been great to see more visual cues when I did something right, like the screen lights up or something. Fun game, I had a good time
I liked how the player had to manage/balance a few different elements - the game was addictive! I got over 27000! I think it would have been good to have a visual cue when health got low - for example, the healthbar turned red, or started pulsing. Very fun, great use of sound and particle effects too! PS - congrats on 20 ratings!
That was an incredible game! Definitely one of the best games I've played this jam! Fantastic story, world, gameplay, use of the theme...yeah, I would come back to that game. It was brilliant. The song became a bit repetitive after awhile - I think it needed another one or two songs that would play once this one was done. All in all, an incredible game and I hope more people get to play it!
Very cool! I liked the pixel art and the gameplay, even the AI was pretty smart! This would make a great two player game. I think if the trees spawn in random locations, it could potentially add another layer of challenge. Good work! Congrats on the first jam!
Fun, innovative concept! I played the jam version, but I agree with you - the version where you could reroute the cars would add another really cool layer. Nicely executed!
Great atmosphere, and the music really just did good things. I (like a few others) found the lack of feedback after attacking an object a bit confusing. The enemies were pretty cool!
My poor Tim...he died every time! haha, fun concept, and my first time playing as an immune system. I think to improve it, it would have been cool for the spawn points to be visually obvious, also maybe arrows pointing off the screen showing where the enemies are.
Liked the game! The music was fantastic, and the controls were tight! I thought that the bullets could have been bigger and/or a different colour to help them stand out more against the background
Haha, this is why I'm delaying having kids - Their food requirements are too high! Enjoyed the concept and I thought the sound effects the incompetech sound track worked really well. The gameplay for me became pretty repetitive. Perhaps you could invest time to get upgrades, like a shopping cart or something? Or an assistant? Or grow the food close?
I'm a bad driver :( Haha I really enjoyed the graphics, and even the menu screen looked fantastic. Controls were a bit sensitive, but I'm guessing that was intentional. Nice work
That was cool! I loved the concept, and had fun with it too! Really creative! When I was loaded up with goo, I would have liked to have move faster - or have more enemies - because sometimes it felt like you'd go a long time without action. Cool sprites! Loved the goo!
Fun game! I loved picking up the gauntlet! The nude knight made me laugh. I found the controls tricky, which made staying alive super tricky as well. I would run around, avoiding conflict, and hope enemies would get stuck to walls. Al in all, cool game! Great, pixelly goodness!
New trend: Mallows and chill :) This game kept me entertained the whole way through - graphics were perfect, dialogue was fun, all in all, quirky and entertaining. Would it need another element like operating costs? Could add another layer of complexity.
I liked the pixel art! I was a bit confused at first, maybe a tutorial would have helped?
wow...that game had it going on! Loved the music, and the change in music at the end! Loved the enemies, loved the art, loved the twist...yeah, that game came together nicely. Plus, the christmas theme was cool. In some instances, I think making a hit could have been more obvious - perhaps by adding more and/or higher contrast particles? Really fun game, I'm now in the Christmas spirit!
I struggled a lot with lag (but maybe just because my computer is ancient). Would love to try it again sometime
Haha, funny game! The music is absolutely perfect, and I love the pixel art. I found it pretty hard, and think I might still need to spend a bit of time with it to master it. What I think would have made it better for me is if the 'Y for continue' just took you straight to the game, cause it felt unnecessary going through the main menu screen each time. Also, great tutorial! As soon as I finished it, I had a really clear idea of how to play the game.
Feels good to be the king! Graphics and sound were incredible! It just is a cool looking/sounding game. It not being possible to lose meant that the game had no challenge...it would have been nice to have stakes!
Wow guys...that was super slick! Loved the art style, mood, concept...yeah, fave game of the jam so far.
If your game was any more polished I'd be able to see my reflection in it.
I thought having players make the trade-off between time and difficulty was great - really innovative! The character looked awesome too! For Gamemaker, it is better to create it as a 'Single Runtime Executable'. Means less installation steps.
Very cool concept! It took bullet hell to the next level! Also, best name of of the jam? Perhaps so!
I also had trouble with the download so couldn't play...hope it's fixed soon!
I liked the artistic style - very cool! The falling animation also brought me a lot of joy, as well as seeing the enemies explode into buckets of blood. I think the game could have been improved by having more enemies but with less health. That would mean less running around and perhaps more blood...I like blood, haha.
Like super smash bros...with gas! You even had the story at the beginning, haha :) Well played guys, that was fun!
You combined two of my favourite things - christmas and drinking - into one game, niiiiiiiiiiiiiice! I really enjoyed the look of the game, as well as having different aspects that needed to be managed. I think rather than being touched causing an 'instakill', it would have been nice for it to increase a bar (like temperature) until you overheat! This would give a bit more leeway. Anyway, fun game, loved the theme and christmas theme too!
Loved the music, it went perfectly. I loved the smoothness of the controls as well. Sometimes, picking up the gold was really tough as it required a precise collision, so I'd have to move back/forth attempting to pick up the same piece. I think this could be improved by having the gold being attracted to the player when/if the player got close enough. All in all though, had a fun time. Cool effects and good, fast, engaging gameplay!
Sandstorm! Good choice of song! Haha, I played the game on easy and had a great time. I really enjoyed the pixelly goodness when playing the game, and thought in comparison that the menu screen was a bit messy - perhaps just a background shot of a blank stage would have worked better? Anyway, fun times!
That game looks beautiful! Loved the look, the feel, and had fun as well! I just read one of your comments and also like the direction you would have taken the game in if you had more time.
Haha, that twist caught me totally off guard! Nicely done!
Haha, that was cool! It was original, it was fun! I am also one of the people that fell victim to the pit...
I had a lot of trouble with the controls (maybe cause my computer is ancient), but it felt like I was clicking everywhere and nothing would happen. I think it would have been good if the mouse icon changed when you were above something you could click on. That being said, good job on learning Unity! I don't think I could have accomplished what you did if I was learning a new game engine.
That was fun! It is a simple concept executed really well! I thought the controls were really tight, and it was also engaging. Yeah, I think you already know what it would have needed to make it better: more polish, fancy fonts, sounds, etc. All in all though, great game and I would love to have seen what it would have become if you had more time.
Fun game guys! I really liked the concept, the art style, and when things stuck to the spaceship it made me laugh, haha. For me, I found that you are launched into extreme difficulty, with everything all at once! I think it could have maybe been improved if it started off easier, then gradually, more and/or different types of debris got introduced
haha, cool game. Pretty unforgiving at first (cause of the small platforms) but after a few more tries I had it down! I finished the game and had fun.
Haha, 46 shrooooms! I'm so proud of myself! That was a fun and engaging game. The pixel art was perfect, and I enjoyed the music and sound effects as well - it got so trippy in the end, haha. Great use of the theme!
2am - am burning the midnight oil for Ludum Dare!
Almost done! Last minute push!
Hi @iamtalin, had to opt out of the audio rating because I wasn't the creator of the music - the real heroes were the guys who published those songs royalty free on their sites - what champs! Syncing the beat of sprites to the music was a challenge...glad you liked it :)
Thanks to everyone who's given feedback so far! This has been great! I've had a night of gaming, and will continue tomorrow. Playing cool games all night is a tough job...but someone's gotta do it ;)
Hey, thanks to all who played/viewed/reviewed my game so far! Helped me hit the 20, and I really appreciate it :) Hope more people get a chance to play/review it, but we'll see!
Hi @hisfantor, sorry to hear about your experience man! I found that the game would often have a black screen on start up for about 5 seconds or so, but if the screen was like that for you permanently, I don't know could have caused the problem. Sorry man! Thanks for trying it out anyway
Hi @cg-fred and @hisfantor, I just uploaded an updated version to the itch.io site which should (hopefully) fix the issue you guys were talking about. This issue only happened on certain pcs: Anyway, no pressure to test, just wanted to let you know. If these changes worked, it will help others who haven't tried the game yet, so thanks for your feedback!
Thanks for the feedback/comments guys! This has been really useful and cool. Hi @kerdelos, the boom clears all shapes from the screen - if you see if floating around, and bring it to you by controlling its direction with the dark beam, then you can 'press K to BOOM'
Simple idea, and fun! I liked the controls, they were very responsive. I found that the game was more fun after I was a bit larger, because at the beginning, when I was tiny, it was too easy to avoid any/all red circles and I felt I could have survived forever. It was only when I got a bit bigger that it was more of a challenge. Congrats on your first jam, that was a great entry!
Stunning game - it looked incredible! I also loved the music, the general feel as well...yeah, that was a lot of fun! I think if it was easier to dodge or faster to accelerate, it would have lead to slightly longer, more engaging playthroughs. That being said, I had a great experience. (I played the jam version, not the compo).
I loved the music, it set the mood nicely. Good use of dialogue boxes as well. The low frame rate was a bit tricky - I think it is better to show the handicap some other way (for example, hair filling up the screen so fast you can no longer find your house).
Fun little game!
I was instakilled a few times from the enemy spawning right next to me, but those times aside, I had a fantastic experience. Super cool and simple aesthetic, great interpretation of the theme, nicely done!
Cool game! Loved the pixel art the the merging of the themes! Nicely done :)
I bet this is what the next Saw movie will be based around. Haha, fun concept - good work!
Fantastic music - so catchy! Nice work!
Haha, DJ Flo!!! I also know someone who dances like that! I thought it was really cool mash-up between rhythm and fighting - Bon travail!
I struggled a lot with the bridge section, but still had a lot of fun - nicely done! Great mood!
Those graphics, that audio! Nicely done guys! Very enjoyable :)
Once I got the hang of it, I really liked it! Good tunes as well!
Had a ton of fun with this, and loved the art style. Even the blurring around the edges is a really cool effect - nicely done!
This is the future of racing! Haha, I had fun and though the different game modes being meshed together was really cool. Good work!
I wasn't that good at it, but still had a ton of fun - fantastic work!
Man, that was a really cool take on tetris, I really liked it. Plus the music and graphics came together nicely as well. Can't believe this is a comp game - nicely done!
I also made a rhythm game and coding for audio/input delay was tough! Anyway, just wanted to say I played and really enjoyed your game. It may be the first time I've actually enjoyed typing.
Nicely done with the music, it matched the mood of the game perfectly! Nice to see other games made with Gamemaker :)
At first I got a score of 0, but then by my third attempt, I managed to do quite well...this was actually quite an accurate depiction of my high school experience :) Very fun and original game, and this was my first time playing a game with ASCII style - I loved it
That game was metal bro! And that thrash guitar gave me life - Great use of the mechanic!
Very clever! Really cool take on the theme, and you did so much with so little time - congrats!
I just read your page entry - I thought your game was great, and congrats on completing it in time for the Comp! I tried my best, but couldn't make the 48 hour deadline. Well done!
Lazers and golf - who knew? Fun game! That was really cool!
That was a really fun and polished game! Great sound effects, you chose the perfect Kevin MacLeod songs, really addictive, the game gave good feedback. Yeah, this is a favourite of mine - great work! I wish I had friends to play it with (violin starts playing in the background)
That was a really cool mechanic and I think you executed it well. It was pretty well polished too - nice job :)
I loved this game - it felt a bit like golf...with a frog. Made me laugh too :) Good job!
That hit me...right in the feels! Haha, great, fun game with a wonderful art style - fantastic job
Having you do buy the seeds over death was a really cool mechanic - I liked having playthroughs tied together that way. Nicely done
I also struggled with the bugs, but still enjoyed the music and art style :)
Cool concept! I also really loved the art style. Pixelly goodness. Great job!
There was this time in the game I was stepping on a spike trap, and under the pressure kept mispelling 'jump'! Haha, managed to type it a millisecond before the trap went off :) Really great idea, amazingly well executed - great job! EDIT: This is the second time I've commented on my own page instead of the game I am rating :|
@daanvanyperen yeah, level 3 was a bit of a difficulty spike! Too bad you didn't get to see Level 4 though - that's when the beat drops :)
@automatonvx Cheers man! I agree with you about the layout. At first the game was just straight 2D but it wasn't looking that good so I changed it. But yeah, as you mentioned I found that the up/diagonal movement got pretty confusing - After the jam ends, I think I may work on this game a bit more. Fixing the layout / design will be what I work on first.
Thanks for all your comments guys! I've loved playing your games and plan to play a whole bunch more before the jam ends. Cheers!
Aw yeah! I won her heart :) That was a really cool idea, and a great execution - well done!
Just got to play boomball! Aw yeah! It was carnage, but I had a good time - nicely done!
I felt like I needed a hug today, so this was the perfect game to play :) Fun and relaxing, and I liked how it looked - good work!
Really cool puzzle game - I also really loved the art style - great work!
This game has an extremely similar core mechanic as the game I made for my LD40 entry, Shapes Are Mean: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/shapes-are-mean That being said, I think you configured the controls a bit better and I absolutely loved your art style. That music track you created is awesome - the whole gender aspect was really clever too. Congrats on completing it during the short time frame of the comp! It took me the full 72 to make shapes are mean.
Haha, I liked that - very cool use of the theme!
Very clever game! I enjoyed the mechanics, the puzzles, the graphics, the music - fantastic entry!
That was fun to watch, and I also liked the humour. I never thought I'd make such a good War Maker!
There was this time in the game I was stepping on a spike trap, and under the pressure kept mispelling ‘jump’! Haha, managed to type it a millisecond before the trap went off :) Really great idea, amazingly well executed - great job!
Throwing enemies at enemies is deeply gratifying - Great artwork, and I loved playing as a ship with tentacles :)
Gooooooaaaaaaaall!!! Fun game, it was great to score.
I died a ton, but kept coming back - loved the graphics, the player looks exceptionally cool. Too bad about the sound, but congrats on a stellar first jam :)
Trivia on game shows should be like this :) Cool concept!
You guys are going to do great on mood! The music and art worked really well together to create something really cool. Great work!
That was a really cool game - the levels and waves were really well thought out, plus the core mechanic was awesome - great job!
Haha, the first time I made gloop! I shouldn't have picked up that fish! Nice lighthearted and amusing game - I had fun
