LD44 — Your life is currency

Assault on Crown Archipelago by aurel 2019-05-07T03:18:07Z

I have to appreciate the nightmare the protagonist finds themselves in when they drink the grog.

There's a lot of nice things going for this. I like the harpoon puzzle solving mechanic and the music pitch-bending is a nice touch. I haven't gotten all that far, but just on mechanics alone, I like it.

I think of Monkey Island a bit much with the presentation here, which makes me kinda feel bad when I'm on a Monkey Murdering Spree TM.

For a small bit of feedback, I can't help but notice you have to WASD into the instruction teaching the player they need to WASD to move, which is a bit ironic.

Otherwise, I kinda like the game. I haven't gotten far at all, but it gives a good first impression.

It could really use a save mechanic of some kind though. That would really be nice to have added (especially if you expect people to try for 999 coins or 250 for the ending)...

Yen Master by LeviDSmith 2019-05-02T02:59:24Z

So... I just tried your game. It's kind of rough, but playable. The movement is really slow from the start... to the point where it's hard to dodge enemy fire. Sacrificing from the start, though, without a list of controls available on the sites or in game, I didn't realize that W and S move up and down. I couldn't hit the horizontally moving gray enemies in the air until I learned that. It's usually a good idea to provide a control list at least on the site, even if it sometimes gets forgotten in the heat of the jam (I know I frequently forget to get the listing into the game itself and have to sometimes add it in post-jam).

I tried the magnet upgrade, and it didn't appear to do anything, at least on the first level upgrade. It's really difficult to get past level 2.

Conway's Currency by klianc09 2019-05-08T03:55:43Z

The game is very interesting in concept, but really difficult to play. I think it's the huge amount of things to take in all at once.

After I got used to the rules, it was fun to keep going! Now sure there's an ending proper. Would be nice if there was after a certain amount of levels. I made it to Floor 14 before closing.

Maybe better teaching moments in game would help a lot. Also giving the other items gravity wasn't very helpful, tbh. I love the concept of health as an inventory item. I think that worked toward the theme extremely well (Alongside with Conway's Game of Coin!)

Brian, Your Life Is Currency by brinkhousegames 2019-05-02T02:35:13Z

I pushed the button and I immediately loved the game.

However, I encountered a LOT of bugs while playing the web version. For some reason, at some point in the game, people stopped going to lines 1 or 2, so it was all on line 3.

I also noticed that satisfying particular tasks that customers further back in line wanted done still counted for them.

Also, if you hit 'use' when no one is standing in a particular line, it gives a point for happy customers.

Not sure what happened, but it got pretty rough...

Brian, Your Life Is Currency by brinkhousegames 2019-05-03T03:13:09Z

@brinkhousegames I just tried it on desktop and a lot of the bugs definitely went away. Now after playing the game that's properly working, I feel like it was a lot more of a challenge. The actual premise isn't hard (make the happy/unhappy ratio more happy than not) but satisfying each customer was definitely a frantic rush as the line got longer and longer. I kinda really wish that each day had a pause period so I could take a break!

Also, there is still a bug where I can spam the "use" key on a lane while customers weren't there and infinitely get happy customer points.

Also, there's another bug where sometimes the customer's demands don't appear in the screen. (Usually if customers leave out of order from waiting in the lane or some other line related thing, I've noticed.)

Still fun and I really dig the art style on second go, now that I can read the text :P

Baby Benjamins by foolmoron 2019-05-20T06:21:26Z

A lot of fun to the concept here! Sadly, I'm not patient, skilled enough to reach the gold bar that someone else seems to have. If I had feedback, maybe reduce the amount of currency that spawns at a time. The 2D physics performs really well, but it makes it really tough to play when it fills so much up on its own.

I enjoyed this one a lot!

Lifeblood Arena by svntax 2019-05-07T02:44:39Z

It's an interesting game with a nice polish. I like the small things like the screen wiping out as it transitioned and the simple mechanics.

It'd be nice if there was some way to get back some hit points though. Also, the second level and fourth level kinda repeated themselves (bull fights) and that one kinda takes to long to finish.

A polished effort though!

Mint Sprint by kaiclavier 2019-05-02T02:01:54Z

The music immediately wins me over. I love that detail and the fact that it makes its own music.

I really like the concept here, and it kinda fits with the theme, which is good.

The 2D mixed with 3D also works well, which surprised me.

Also, despite the fact I generally enjoy puzzle games, it's much appreciated that you provided a cheat console :P

This has a lot going for it and I hope you guys consider developing it more.

Tyrone Leinster's Debt Dream by Rob White 2019-05-20T04:18:09Z

The game mechanics are simple, which I like. It would be really nice if I could have held the mouse down to attack instead of having to cramp my finger :sob:

Otherwise, I like the weird, weird graphics and movement animations a lot. The briefcases at the Capone battle were annoying because they don't come across as something you can attack, so... I died just after because I blew all my health fruitlessly dodging them.

Simple but fun.

bloodsucker. by whycardboard 2019-05-02T01:44:35Z

I liked the idea and the gameplay a lot! Unfortunately, the RNG element was a bit unbalanced, particularly with spawning the player right into the line of fire (or 'light') at least once, and sometimes with the erratic movement making some targets really hard to get to (such as the ones with lights in multiple directions in an open area.)

However, with some polish on the npcs (patterns or timing to movement or removing some of the harder to coordinate ones), I think it has potential.

Also, the volume on the sounds are WAY too loud. (RIP headphone users)

Zombieton by Norris Eldridge 2019-05-06T03:37:06Z

"DEAD"

Definitely a fun idea. I liked the music and the usage of drums as a sound effect for the pistol (though it kinda confused me at first)

I seems a little unbalanced overall, with it becoming too easy to win (especially with enough hitpoints). I also noticed if you just stand in the middle of the zombies, the zombies will kill themselves with attack damage until there's only one left.

Gameplay was definitely smooth though, and it's a good start into a concept. Also, congrats on finishing your first compo!

The Greatest Show by FranVadillo 2019-05-07T04:02:38Z

I love the art style and the music, and I love the sound effects for the talking goose XD

However, there's clearly a translation error going on here. I can't understand anything of what's happening in the dialogue... I don't want to hold it against the game, but I have no idea what I'm doing.

The absurdity alone bumps up the humor for me quite a bit, even if the dialogue made no sense.

All I know is I ran out of souls and died.

Bloodletter by shp 2019-05-06T04:46:27Z

The fast-paced Quake feel combined with the bullet time and health drain and hit enemies to heal actually turns out to be a lot of fun! I had a blast!

I only played it on easy so far, but I'll come back later for the harder difficulties.

Coin Operative by davidsheadgames 2019-05-02T03:02:31Z

@ransom I was considering other currencies as a future extension. I'll keep Canada in mind

Coin Operative by davidsheadgames 2019-05-02T03:03:57Z

@mdwade Yeah, it often becomes that when I toss sound in at the last minute. I might make some improvements post-jam. I'll also see if I can find or make some music for the post-jam version of the game too.

Coin Operative by davidsheadgames 2019-05-09T01:23:32Z

@drlizard Can you send me any details about the anti-virus that's having issues with the file and what it's reporting? That'd be much appeciated.

The Cash with a Hat by Ratrat44 2019-05-16T01:22:41Z

This is one of the better nightmares I've played, and I mean that as a compliment. Accentuated a bit by the music that plays in the background. I really like the mechanic at play here and how having a taller stack of coins actually has a serious negative impact on things like platforming.

Amazingly, I still haven't beaten it (I screwed myself over a lot of times by overspending on the bill), but I like the web version enough that I definitely want to try to finish it later on. I downloaded the win copy and I'll try to beat it later!

The inclusion of a reset button is MUCH appreciated.

Deal With the Devil by Firepit games 2019-05-07T03:00:23Z

The devil is a cheap lying bastard >_<

The ability to say "No" to the initial offer right at the beginning was a nice touch, lol

This was a fun concept. The top-down was reminiscent of Hotline Miami. It actually was honestly a little too easy to win, though, so long as you keep moving in a direction.

I couldn't figure out how to change powerups til after playing and winning. They don't seem to do too much to differentiate themselves mechanics-wise, though, at least as far as I could tell. Maybe a "hit" animation would help show when enemies were being affected or what's more effective.

Replaying it also stressed a desperate need to be able to skip the intro cutscene, especially because it's annoying that it locks the mouse, even in windowed mode.

Hot Slots: All In by trozen 2019-05-03T03:20:43Z

Ahahaha! I love it. Really good on the presentation too!

At first, I was cringing because I thought it was just a slots game from the title art, but the fact you are a slot machine is amazing!

Died really early on, but I saw enough. Binding of Issac with gambling your health away?! Awesome!

p-p-p-Pew by 5n1p3r_4r73m1s 2019-04-30T06:18:12Z

The dev build has a lot of slowdowns and sound crashes out after a while. It might be a good idea to make a desktop build of the game available.

Goblette by Nathaniel Jensen 2019-05-02T02:11:10Z

Ahahaha, the dead rats have 2D physics. I wasn't expecting that when a rat suddenly rolled over XD That was a nice detail.

If I had a bit of feedback, I think the attack is too close to the player (especially given the speed and given the fact she can't attack while jumping). Otherwise, it feels like a solid platformer. Basically Sonic but with a focus on platforming and attacking.

Currency Lane by Cody Nguyen 2019-05-07T03:31:43Z

Interesting entry. I get the mechanics and I like the idea. The perspective is baffling as it is though... maybe it's the fact that the coins seem to have random sizes and not something consistent with perspective. Having shadows beneath the coins is helpful, but it's still really difficult to play.

The exacting, unforgiving hitboxes around the burglar sprites and fact the player coin doesn't have a lot of control over speed of movement means losing out on a lot of opportunities as the burglars seem to time themselves to run right over coins a lot of the time. I think that's more due to RNG being particularly unfair, though. It might be nice if the player coin had some left/right movement control and if the coins matched perspective some. Also, make the burglar a little more forgiving (such as let the player have it if they're over half the body height of the burglar or something)

Finally, to be blunt, with upgrades at $150 and higher (and me only being able to get like $.50 a run before getting overwhelmed) I'm gonna say there's no chance I'll get to see what they do. However, I really like that the amount you own saves even after closing/reopening. That's great that you added that.

Tetris: Tempo by Valid 2019-05-02T01:26:07Z

Definitely a functional version of Tetris. The loop for the music isn't quite right, though... Also, I don't enjoy the up to drop immediately (up usually rotates the piece in most versions of Tetris) and the buying mechanic kinda costs more than the piece feels worth (even the straight block) Having an online high score mechanic is cool though!

I found a bug where you could basically get free blocks by buying a block endlessly until death, then start the game again and have the purchased blocks. It doesn't do much though, as there appears to be a cap on how many blocks you can queue up at a time.

Nice work tho!

Root Maker by Joe Bustamante 2019-05-04T01:42:12Z

It's somewhat sadistically enjoyable jumping on a currency when its at its low point and then watching the money explode like that.

It was then that an hour had passed and I was deep into forming my own cult that I realized I should probably take a break from it for a while.

Well done!

Earn Your Life by aCactus 2019-05-07T02:18:34Z

I liked some of the options :P

However...

I faffed about my entire life... At age 71, I won a contest. And at age 76, I was an inspiration to many.

Truly an epic life.

Then at the next life, I faffed about my entire life. Only at age 74, was I haunted by the past.

Truly an epic life.

If I could give some real criticism, though, it's a bit basic and making "real" choices doesn't seem to lead anywhere new... also, putting a blurry shadow behind text makes it really hard to read.

I also notice, regardless of how often I refresh, my name is always "Connie Swift".

The music was alright, though, and I like putting it as optional at the bottom in the web version. That was a nice touch.

Deenero by Carlos Salazar 2019-05-03T02:46:10Z

Congrats on finishing a game! Um... I don't know how to interpret it? It has one of the weirder stories and a strange sense of morals, but okay. It's definitely a start into game making!

The text resizing as it was printing out was annoying to read. Usually a good tactic is to just pick a static font size, fill the text space, measure it and make a window that wraps around the size (in the background before the first frame loads).

I kinda liked the scattershot, incoherent, clashing art style to it. It gave a weird, tongue-in-cheek aesthetic to the whole thing.

How To survive school by Malarius 2019-05-04T00:52:23Z

Hey there!

Just a heads up. Under "Downloads and Links", it's saying that the link you provided leads to your source code, while the itch site features only a Windows build.

It's easier for people reviewing your game if they know what builds are available for them to play. Personally, I alternate between a Mac and a Windows box, so I usually would like to know ahead of time what I'm getting into.

Just a suggestion. Congrats on completing your first Ludum Dare :)

ATM: Automatic Teller Mayhem by harringtonsp1 2019-05-07T05:35:58Z

The gameplay itself is a little rough, but I like a good physics clusterf**k game.

I think the only "issue" I have is that the railings are really difficult to get around. That and maybe lower the "ceiling" so that the ATM isn't floating around.

Also, sometimes the ATM seems to just *pop* back to the floor when going from Smash mode back to walk mode. Not sure whether it's an issue.

Also, the symbols above the 'customer' heads don't make a lot of sense to me.

Otherwise, I dig it a lot!

Lady Death by Maria Eugenia Franco 2019-04-30T05:52:56Z

I liked the overall game. I hated the last level because death can still happen at the end of the levels while the controls are locked. It's kinda not good that the last enemy is looming right above moving spikes...

Visually it was great, though, and I liked that it was straight to the point and simple to pick up.

utsvulten by ditto 2019-05-06T04:23:27Z

Dear lord, what is this nightmare?!

I kinda like it...

Escape from the Bank by KreGames 2019-05-06T03:49:42Z

Cool idea! Basically a maze game with a challenge to keep it less than a certain amount of travel!

It definitely feels like its randomly generated, which is a mixed bag in terms of fair level design. It definitely felt like some levels are unlikely to win without perfect knowledge of the maze.

I was able to play through 5 or 6 before "dying".

The edges of the walls were jagged too, which made navigation a bit harder in a seemingly unintended way.

I still like seeing a well-made maze generator, and this is a good one.

Herding Cats by Al Bueche 2019-05-06T03:23:42Z

Very fun concept. Frustrating as all hell to coordinate them, which I think is its charm. 6 buttons feels like a good max amount of button, because any more is just impossible. A "reset level" switch would have been nice too because I accidentally broke the level and couldn't progress :'(

https://i.imgur.com/jEHDyTw.png

Definitely fits with the title of the game, though.

Cash-Out by drakonep 2019-05-07T05:20:37Z

I didn't think that Red Letter Media's Mr. Plinkett would get his own game!

Reference jokes aside, I loved this entry. It's like its own nightmare as a game. Clearly, it doesn't seem to end, but the art style and the music really complement each other and the gameplay.

I'm not sure I have a lot of criticism for it, aside from maybe an ending that isn't just losing. Though, maybe I just didn't find the way to 'win'. Also, a 'menu' to quit while playing, and opening up some of the gaps near the houses up against the edge of the screen, so the player can get around.

Also, I noticed some powerups were spawning in an unreachable island in the middle of the lake. A bug, perhaps?

Piggy Bank's Adventure by Comet From Outer Space 2019-05-20T04:33:23Z

Wow, that was extremely short. Given the epicness of the story, the music, and the presentation of the tutorial level, I thought there was going to be much much more to it. Kind of a shame, really.

As far as the mechanics go, the pig felt really fast and it was a bit jarring at first. I think with more levels to feel it out, it would have been a much stronger experience. I did like the art style itself, and the music choice was nice. I'm not sure the music was made as part of the jam because there's no credit saying otherwise, but really nice job if it was!

LD45 — Start with nothing

Tactical Bodybuilding by SuperTibbles 2019-10-15T04:31:28Z

Great idea! I love a good grotesque sandbox! The major mechanic of attaching limbs to the torso seems a bit bugged, though, and the rapid pace of limbs despawning made it really hard to add limbs onto myself.

However, once I got past that and started getting into a flow, it was a fun idea. I love how you can attach any limb anywhere and I wish it was a lot more free-flowing. I love the AIs in the arena as well. It's a great touch!

Space Base Continuum by Gizmolo 2019-10-29T05:52:39Z

The music was very chill and I think it really kind of elevated the game quite a bit. Normally, this kind of thing would be super stressful because it's overwhelming, but this was chill.

The game is pretty basic, but it's also okay. It's not very balanced and it seems too easy to get overwhelmed. There might be a resource leak that's slowing down the game on each restart as the thing slowed to a crawl on try three.

The Void by Norris Eldridge 2019-10-06T23:07:38Z

I really liked this one!

The stick is super OP!

If I had a bit of feedback, it's that the Void boss doesn't have a 'hurt' frame or animation, so it's hard to tell if hitting it is doing any damage.

I also didn't feel the "Start With Nothing" theme as much, as the three playthroughs I did always put me with a weapon before I encountered any enemy. However, I loved that you could attack while 'falling'. That was probably my fave bit.

Otherwise, a nice, short-and-sweet RPG.

Start With No Game by davidsheadgames 2019-10-06T20:50:22Z

I'm planning to add more to this entry after the upload, so any feedback or suggestions are much appreciated.

Start With No Game by davidsheadgames 2019-10-08T01:13:00Z

@jasper-hansen Yeah, I acknowledge there's a lot that this game could have had fit into it, but I REALLY wanted to make compo this time around.

I am planning to work in additional features in an 'after-jam' build, possibly. Did you have anything in mind to make it more stand out?

Start With No Game by davidsheadgames 2019-10-08T01:13:41Z

@nachtwitch Thanks! Recognized, what?

Gem Miner by Jasper Hansen 2019-10-08T01:10:07Z

The graphics are really good in that retro aesthetic way. I liked this entry, though having a lava death trap suddenly in level four was an extremely mean thing to do... especially without a continue of some kind.

I think also the mechanics of digging could have been expanded to allow for diagonal digging or at least make it so I didn't have to be extremely close just to get at a block. The water also made movement pretty difficult, despite the jump advantage.

All in all, I liked it, though. The art style really sells it and makes it feel polished.

No Game Here by Cpokered 2019-10-07T00:25:51Z

Well... I can speak with honesty that you've made an experience that leaves me trying to make something out of "nothing"

I did find a series of rooms, some of them saying "Nothing", but I don't think I'm smart enough to piece together what I was supposed to do with the clues...

Also, every room I entered had "Nothing" off-center... just enough. I can't tell whether it's intentional or a bug.

There's something evil about the experience.

Survive in Neon lights by HakierGrzonzo 2019-10-19T01:18:35Z

Needless to say, I have no idea how the controls work or how to play... and the 'help' screen didn't actually help. Probably want to aim for informative instead of insult humor next time with your 'help' screen...

To be blunt, the text is more off-putting than it was funny...

The only thing I figured out is that SOMETIMES I can place tiles, and one of the tiles shoots. Beyond that, I don't really understand the parts where those things don't happen. I _think_ its intended, but it could have equally been a bug and I wouldn't be the wiser...

MiniRPG! by Ktao 2019-10-06T23:02:09Z

Just a heads up, the link to play this one doesn't currently work.

Ravenous Void by Al Bueche 2019-10-15T04:20:27Z

I like that you went for spooky, to coincide with the October month that this jam was done during. It also is a great fit for the theme, since you start with so close to nothing that you have to fetch your own power. I like the oddity of the floating physics boxes combined with the spooky music. I also like that you put a beacon over the goal. That was a seriously good idea.

I waited the game out to see if there were any consequences to failing to grab the power cubes, and was a little disappointed because nothing seemed to happen, however the spookiness of the ambiance combined with the odd music kept me intrigued nonetheless. Maybe if this game was shorter by a "day", I would have enjoyed this more. It felt perfect at three in-game days.

Going from the description, it sounds like there's a lot going on behind the scenes than shows in the game itself, specifically in music generation and world generation.

I actually want to peck at this one a bit, as there seems to be more music than the game itself seems to include. This looks like a really interesting puzzle box of code.

END WITH FIRE by ArithiPathic 2019-10-15T05:34:29Z

I really love the concept behind this one, though the level design feels a bit unfair. After the first playthrough, I had to just give up and reset because I fell in enough pits and the death 'pellets' kept me stuck in an infinite point loss loop.

On the second try, however, I was able to use knowledge of the previous playthrough to find all (or a lot) of the torches. I like the dance at the end, and again the concept is fun.

I also liked the idea of leading the player at the start by putting them in darkness with the only visible way forward at the corner where you first find a torch. However, maybe don't block that first torch with walls because it's very easy to get stuck, lost, and frustrated.

A great concept though!

Whacker of Thy Weeds by Fezezen 2019-10-27T02:36:58Z

It's amazing how effective this game was at keeping my attention.

I did notice a bug where 'using' the bottom left corner of the screen triggered the shop page. Also, the game is extremely easy and you have to really try to fail at it. After getting bored, I let the weeds at the bug pumpkin and it still took three in-game days for them to take it down.

It needs a win condition. I lasted about 10 days, then got bored.

Also, the control layout kind of takes me out of a "flow" while planting and harvesting. Maybe if harvesting were automatic when walking over and using planted, it'd flow better.

Otherwise, a solid entry.

NOTHING by Ticu Bogdan 2019-10-17T06:08:22Z

A very interesting way to handle a shooter. At first, I thought it was straight trolling because of the literal start with zero bullets. Then I found bullets and I was wondering how it was going to scale up from here.

And then I found out that it scales IMMEDIATELY AGGGGGHGHHHHHHHH!

It was a fun twist. Well timed too.

Afloat by Nigma 2019-10-08T06:02:59Z

I think I figured out the game (filled in all the blocks in the machine grail thing), but I still don't really understand it.

I think the strategy is to make large areas of particular blocks, which incidentally causes 'special' versions of the blocks to appear, and then the more of those there are, the faster the respawn rate on your block of choice...

I don't really get it though... it does fit the theme of starting with nothing, but my finger hurts now from all the clicking...

The pixel art on the dog character is nice though. Very fluid.

Minno by --0 2019-10-08T06:20:59Z

I really liked the music for this one. Very relaxing and chill.

I do like the concept of this, but for some reason the game was extremely laggy as I was trying to play it, which made learning the controls a lot harder and frustrating. There would be periods where the game doesn't respond for seconds, and I think I'm doing something wrong, until it finally comes back.

Once I realized it might have been a performance bug or something, I kind of got over it. I think the mechanic is fun and easy to understand, though the lack of movable inventories once you place them leads to a lot of easy-to-fail moments.

The puzzles were satisfying though, and I think I got to the limbo ending...

Fun concept!

Nought - Procedurally Generated Dungeon by sacredbacon 2019-10-07T00:46:22Z

Interesting game, but really hard!

It would be nice if the enemies actually collided with each other instead of standing atop one another. As the person above said, it makes it really hard when I can't tell how many there are.

The laser feature is really cool. I wish I had an easier time finding that ammo because it really helped later on.

I also noticed a bug with the grenade where if I use it, then change rooms, the explosion will still happen in the room I moved into.

Otherwise, it seems like a good quickie effort. Could use a balance pass.

Happy jumper by Trito 2019-10-15T06:40:19Z

I like the execution on the idea quite a bit, and it fits well with the theme.

As others have pointed out, more "Levels" to complete than just the one would have been great. Otherwise, I get the idea and I find it charming, especially with the casio keyboard backing it.

Fast Bastard by eupde 2019-10-08T02:20:36Z

Having the same problem as mentioned above. You might want to just specify a manual size in itch.io 's setting (and make sure it's set correctly) As the person said above.

Otherwise, it's a fun and simple game and has a wacky, outstanding art design. The controls seem a bit slow on input to what happens in the screen, not sure if that's phaser or what...

I like the gameplay concept too. Basically a fancy version of blackjack or The Price Is Right, where you try to guess at as much as you can without going bust.

Ended the first run with 95 and the second with 112. Fun!

The pixel art style is really nice and gives it a feel of polish.

Sadly, the mechanics are just... really not for me. I found myself trapping myself with walls more than using them in a way that helps.

It seems like maybe an 'erase' feature could be helpful. Also the fact that the floor would continue to get painted in as the player was running across it (regardless if the down key was pressed) made movement extremely difficult. Much more than it needed to be.

The concept is very innovative though and again, the chosen style and presentation is strong!

Devour by vivienw 2019-10-17T07:17:05Z

I'm with a lot of the other comments in this. The lack of description in the entry is making it too hard to figure out. All that I know of this game I had to learn from the comments, and I still don't understand how to actually play or what the goal is. Each time I bump into a planet, I "resize" back to the big planet, which I think is a lose state

Unlock Hero by Plazmaz 2019-10-07T01:34:29Z

I really like the unlock mechanic!

There's a minor bug in the slime AI where the platforms will confuse it. If the slime is on a platform RIGHT above the player, it'll just sit on the platform and not try to jump off. It's a simple thing, but also easy to exploit.

I managed to get to 105! Not sure where all the upgrades occur.

Idle Twit by Josh Aaron Miller 2019-10-15T06:32:51Z

I don't think I understand what's going on, mechanically... I'm either playing it wrong or this is the slowest idle game ever made. Even following the instructions provided, I still can't get it past 1 duck and 1 eggplant!

I like the music and the art style going on, and this is a perfect fit for the theme...

However, real Twitter is easier to play.

Beat Builder by kyle3wynn 2019-10-06T23:29:17Z

Dude, for four hours to put it together, this is really impressive.

Good job!

Keep IT alive - The daily struggle by Skosnowich 2020-05-06T07:05:36Z

Pushed Bill out the window, ignored all the IT calls, and just drank coffee all day.

Best IT job.

I liked this one, because of the IT references, and kudos to you for trying to use libgdx!

A few notes of improvement: - It would be nice if the tutorial was skipable. I tried skipping it and broke the game drinking too much coffee. - As mentioned above, ignoring the phone calls seems to have no penalty. - I did encounter a bug where I ran out of calls, but happiness was at 100%. Game win? - I really like that you added some dynamic 2D lighting. It's a nice touch.

Flower Dreams by BradCode 2020-05-06T02:09:48Z

I wasn't exactly sure how to play this one to its maximum peak. It felt a bit random as to whether a leaf/flower/plant piece would live or die suddenly. I did find you could trim the whole bush in one snip at the bottom, which was super satisfying.

The sounds were satisfying too.

I think with an explanation of the underlying rules, or with something more predictable, you could make a great puzzle challenge from this. Someone above seemed to figure it out much better than I did, so there's a winning strategy to this.

Reeactor by Ace17 2020-05-06T08:13:23Z

I was very confused by the interface, and he lack of scrolling around the window meant I needed to expand the window size from the default just to see the whole system.

Also, the debug interface gives nice values and red indicators so I knew what was actually happening. I think it makes more sense for that to be the core game, specifically the colors because they give the player a sense of what's overheating.

It seems like there's a lot going on in the backend simulation, but I'm still very confused about the goal of the game. I did manage to keep it from overloading in a few seconds, and kept it stable for a while.

Keep the Streak Alive by tompudding 2020-05-10T10:46:54Z

I like the concept, but that hardestest level, no thanks. I was already kind of abusing the game just to advance!

However, I really like how fluid it feels and I think if the rules were more relaxed (i.e. use the boxes but you don't have to hit all of them, or hit all the boxes but you don't have to land it in a tiny cup) I see some potential for a fun physics puzzler.

I do also like that there's variance in the challenge each time. I think that adds a lot to the potential of what you could do with this idea.

Nice!

Acorn City by testlab 2020-05-10T10:26:57Z

It was a very cute game. I really liked the low poly squirrel.

I also have to say it's really a good thing someone mentioned there's a glide mechanic in the comments. I went back and looked at the tutorial screen once again and notice a distinct lack of any documentation for the mechanic and was extremely angry trying to get that last nut!

Otherwise, it's like most collect-a-thons, including the leap of faith collectible, which I also didn't enjoy as much. However, otherwise I had a good time playing this one. I think with a little more playing with the movement of the squirrel, you could have an interesting 3D platformer idea here.

Monster Love by Endurion 2020-04-26T22:54:57Z

There is a lot of great going on here, from the concept of keeping the flies off a corpse, to the morbid humor surrounding the whole thing (including smacking rats with a flyswatter to get them to power generators and things). The variety of obstacles and enemies, and number of level challenges is amazing in such a short time.

I also personally liked the art style here, as it's reminiscent of a lot of hokey DOS games and aspiring to make something that hits a personal nostalgia nerve for me. Normally, I don't like having to download a game, but the art alone got me past that feeling and I'm glad I did it.

There are still a few negatives to this: the controls for the flyswatter are pretty unintuitive and feels hard to predict where the swatter will go, which makes it way harder to hit flies on the table than it should be. The hitbox for the electric floors is way too huge, where the player can still be hit even in places where their body is nowhere near the panel. There is also a bug where some "Try Again" buttons will just skip ahead to the next level. The second to last level also feels like it needs a balance pass, as it was sheer broken AI and luck that was the only reason I won finally.

However, I really love this entry and hope to see more!

Father... Musn't I Kill It? by Andrfw 2020-05-10T09:45:47Z

This is why you should always play games in incognito ;)

Got to kill it AND let it grow into a new pet.

I liked the devious mechanic of making your choice permanent (I think through stored cookie, but I haven't checked), the art had its own style going for it, and it had an interesting premise.

It does inevitably 'die', just because there's technically no other option other than waiting.

A good twist on the premise.

It's asking for a review of audio, but I didn't get any audio...

Mirror by isaque-picao-sanches 2020-04-22T09:32:22Z

Just a heads up: I scanned the windows 1.1 file using VirusTotal and two of the apps said that it detected a Trojan. It's not clear that it wasn't just a heuristic, but maybe rebuild the Windows build just in case?

Google Chrome is also blocking the download too.

LD46 - Grower (not a shower) by boboman 2020-04-26T21:22:38Z

I think the sound effects went a long way in this game in terms of conveying the mechanics a little easier. Unfortunately, I don't think it communicated enough, and I didn't get a lot of fun from playing it. I think a lot of it was the lack of visibility into whether my work was helping or hurting.

I first stayed in the rain as much as possible and couldn't grow except the first time. Then I tried just avoiding the snow and eventually just died when I accidentally touched it. I think the commands as they are needed first time help a lot, but maybe something more to explain when the timing is right, like a meter or an indicator would help.

Otherwise, I think I kind of figured it out, but couldn't get past the phase where I was gaining/losing petals frequently. I think it just became too hard at that point and the erratic behavior of the rain and snow made it too hard to progress past it.

Zombie Survival by Croped 2020-05-06T07:32:06Z

I liked the puzzle aspect to the levels. I also like the macabre theme to it all. Though, it did take me a while to realize it was the zombie you were trying to keep alive.

Also, the dark texture of the other characters and the dark background made them kind of hard to see. They looked like demon characters to me.

Also, at the end, it just cut to black, so I assume I did them all. Roughly 4 - 5 levels?

A Fistful of Daisies by Norris Eldridge 2020-04-20T01:20:59Z

I already want to give it 8/8! It's actually a pretty fun storyline. It would really be nice if you could hold down the mouse to shoot instead of have to click each time, and it's incredibly hard to get past 10 enemies, but it's got a lot going for it for 24 hours.

Conway's Garden of Life by davidsheadgames 2020-04-26T22:29:02Z

@thedashdude I was worried that limiting the play field would significantly reduce a lot of that, yeah. Initially I was just having a hard time getting it going because I didn't get a proper 'select' graphic working until late game, so I was struggling to use the tinier tiles. I'll try making the play field more adjustable, to open up the play more.

@tesseract Thanks! Yeah, I was playing around a bit with this. Once I fix a particular bug, I think it'll open up a lot more min/max strategies. Depends on where I get time.

@kent-reese Thanks. I didn't actually realize Conway passed away just this month until after the jam; I'm planning to work a tribute page to him into the game itself, as it only seems right.

The Village Alchemist by Falzock 2020-05-10T11:39:26Z

I couldn't figure out how to craft a stein, so I couldn't enjoy the most important resource: beer.

Otherwise, I like the concept. Really you need to know what you're doing to do well, and it took me a few tries just to safeguard the walls (kind of) but even then it was overwhelmed pretty quickly. I'm not sure if zombies just perpetually spawn or if villagers are just getting overwhelmed by something else, but it felt like I practically cured the population early and then was completely overwhelmed suddenly.

I also don't know how to get into the shovel shop, but don't really know how to make use of it.

It's a good concept. But could use either a balance pass or some stats to tell how things are going a little better. Way further down the line, it might be nice to have villagers that do more than just resource gathering (ala blacksmith or specialized healer)

It was fun to try, though, which is more than enough for a game jam entry :)

CAT 5 by Jared York 2020-05-06T07:43:41Z

I was struggling to find the cat.com file and I noticed that deleting files would just cause the files to come back anyways. I'm not sure if there's a bug in the game or if that's intentional.

I liked the "Task failed successfully" dialog and I liked the Windows-esque-ish interface, though it's plenty less intuitive ;)

Anyways, yeah, I think there's a bug that's keeping it from being winnable maybe.

Blood On The Snow by Wolfrug 2020-04-26T23:05:43Z

The graphics look really good, but it feels extremely broken. I suspect it's because of the controls or because the web build in Unity sometimes has breaking bugs depending on the browser (played in Firefox).

I cut it short and am holding off on voting because I couldn't get past the control issues to win the first battle. I could barely get movement in and it was near impossible to turn the character in the correct direction to actually attack the vampire bat character.

Eternal Sunshine of Pure Turpentine by Yuri Yakovlev 2020-04-22T10:40:17Z

I feel like I'm missing something about this game. When I try playing it, the patients walk in through the left side, walk into a table and then just stand there. I can run around into the various rooms and jump, and when I enter the rooms, a UI shows up. However, nothing seems to happen when I try to buy a cure for something and nothing appears to happen otherwise.

I'm very confused, and the game is lagging out on my potato of a laptop. The game might be broken in some way.

LD46-Keep it alive by GHubert 2020-05-10T03:17:14Z

Swooping in with ratings!

I think the game is broken (ball doesn't seem to connect with enemy locusts at all, thought rarely sometimes it'll hit one.) I'm not sure what's happening to be honest and there are no instructions to help.

I like the art, though the locusts don't really look like locusts.

EDO by Jozef 2020-04-22T09:56:33Z

I've played it a few times and I generally like the concept. I think the balance gets completely out of whack at around the 400 m mark (Cars start showing up in both lanes, completely block resources on the sidewalk or other shenanigans), but I'm happy to say I almost made it to 600 m. I have no idea when the ending is or if there is an ending. It was a fun game though. No bugs either, which is nice.

If I were to make suggestions for improvement, I'd suggest letting the alien drive forward and backward so they can actually be strategic in how they navigate around the cars. Also, water works for coolant too in desperate times, but that's just from personal experience.

Also, take the black cars out, as they blend in with the asphalt a little too well.

8-Bit of Farming by StinkyKitty 2020-05-10T09:31:41Z

I played the 1.01 version instead of the original because the original felt broken until I finally figured out how to plant seeds. Ironically, I think this means the visuals are a little non-intuitive at the start.

I liked the art and limited palette choice. I think it gives it a lot of retro charm. The music was quite nice, and the challenge was interesting.

The controls are a little difficult to handle (left click seems to apply to the grid next to you where right click applies only to the one below you) And some of the mechanics could also use a pass-through (having to wait to remove the corn just to apply the two fertilizer types to a piece of ground was annoying) However, the slow-paced nature of the game makes it less a concern.

In 1.01, I think the upgrades were well-balanced against the 'annoyance' factor, in that I had just earned enough for the next thing right as I was feeling a need for it. At the same time, like most idle games, earning the next upgrade made a lot of the previous effort and challenge a complete moot point, which kind of left the final upgrade feeling like a downer than a success.

If I was to recommend a single change, I would suggest focusing on a satisfying 'end' to the game. Otherwise, as is, it feels polished enough to be a real mini-game that stands on its own.

Keep Floating by JoaoG 2020-05-10T02:54:52Z

That's definitely an interpretation of the theme!

The game is a simple sort of thing, but the music was good (though I was confused how it fit with the game)

I think I want to parrot the above and say that the "float" section would be better if treated as a bonus section to get extra lives than as a penalty.

Otherwise, the concept is alright, and I love the play on the theme.

Hit a score of 234, which isn't high, but I think its enough to get a sense of the game. I liked the "Up" reference in the background.

Something Fishy by sztrovacsek 2020-04-20T16:13:15Z

Really cool concept! I think it definitely starts to make sense once there's a huge amount of fish on the screen and you're struggling to keep all of them going. I think the rate at which it goes is decent enough too to make for a good 5 minutes of fun.

One bug: if you let the fish all die, there's no apparent way to reset and try again, though you have to pretty deliberately fail to make that happen.

Beached by JoeHoratio 2020-05-10T03:19:23Z

Still not opening... you still need to publish your page on itch.io in order for others to see.

Human Apocalypse by Fathy Basha 2020-05-06T08:01:35Z

I think the art and animation is very nice and fluid. I wasn't sure what the gameplay was going to be, and it was mostly narrative focused.

As far as I can tell, there's only two options to do, and most of the time is spent in dialogue. I couldn't actually shoot the zombie, though the gun kept going off as I fired. I was also stuck in a shooting pose as the zombie knocked me over, so I was extra confused. I think this was a bug.

The dialogue system was kind of awkward to use and buggy too. I was stuck in a dialogue loop with the cop character for a while.

So... while I didn't exactly like the game, I do appreciate the effort put in it, and the animation was very nice and fluid, so kudos there. A valiant effort for 48 hours.

Save The Game by Rodrigo Castro 2020-04-26T22:15:22Z

I really like the concept of playing a game in order to keep the console battery alive. I loved it in concept, though this jam version of it had some bumps that kept me from wanting to play it more:

1. I was confused at why it was adding the scores of previous play-thrus together as it seemed to have nothing to do with the keeping it alive.

2. I had to practically guess that I had to click the virus in order to actually fight it, as there wasn't enough of a visual indicator otherwise, so my first few plays were really cut short without that knowledge. Maybe spawning it in different locations could also give some much needed variance.

3. Also, I think I really dislike the laughing sound effect of the virus, like... I really hate the volume level on it when wearing headphones (too loud!). But it definitely gets my attention, so it accomplishes what it needed.

I do like the concept though and I think it should be added onto, to continue the whole "play the game to keep the console alive" feel of it.

As an example: it might be nice for the mini-game itself to have 'lose' states that were not related to the whole game reseting, so you'd have to keep restarting the mini-game, but it would still charge the battery, so 'winning' the game doesn't necessarily 'win' the battery.

Anyways, keep it up! It's a good concept!

Fatter by axeltherabbit 2020-04-20T15:32:01Z

Success! I died of obesity! 200 points!

I really liked the concept for this one. And mechanically, it makes for a fun mini-game. Also, it seemed to be balanced well between the finding food pickups and 'starving' that one could keep going for a really long while.

It would be cool to see some variety in enemies and maybe get some pickups that aren't directly related to food (a speed pickup or an 'slow-starve' pickup could help you with getting more enemy variety to balance back and forth)

Keep the Engine going by snip_man 2020-05-06T07:20:37Z

I liked the game concept, and for completing it in 14 hours, I can totally commend you.

I think there's a lot of room for improvement, and if you have time, I think it would be worth going in and polishing it more and adding to it to up the challenge a bit.

I like the concept though.

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

thanks, II hate it! by thristhart 2022-10-04T01:21:04Z

I mean... I adored the clocks. And the minigames all work without issue, so... I liked that...

Balloon Time by pkenney 2022-10-09T03:41:57Z

I got a 'Great!' That's good enough for me.

Really simple but effective game! I really dig the graphics and the art style. I think the bounce from the balloons could be way more forgiving or some ability to 'save' your run with a double jump would be nice.

Ten Seconds to Midnight by Alchemic 2022-10-15T07:56:24Z

The challenge is real! And it is heavy! I had to switch to sandbox mode pretty quickly. However, the ragdoll is hilarious and the gameplay is fun without the timer challenge. There's grains of some good snowboarding challenges here. It's a little difficult to control, mostly because the snowboard is too easy to tip, especially while jumping. If those were addressed, this could be a super fun challenge game.

Forest of the Lost by MartensCedric 2022-10-11T06:17:42Z

I liked the horror aesthetic of the game and the concept. However, it felt a bit brutal in terms of monster placement. I'm grateful that the game was forgiving with checkpoints because after a while it was more trial and error, especially once I found out that monsters can randomly cross and kill you during the transition phase between plants, even while the player is standing in an open area.

I think there's potential in this idea as a one-off in a horror game, but it needs some polish and balance.

Frantic Belt by wheybags 2022-10-09T04:04:03Z

Just a heads up, the provided executable requires net core in order to run. It'd be nice if this app ran without additional resources.

Demon Dash by Norris Eldridge 2022-10-03T22:51:26Z

Definitely happy to see you're still releasing stuff, man!

The wave-based shooter is definitely something on theme. The choice of sounds and music fits perfectly. My only bits of feedback is that it would have been cool to see multiple levels, or some form of ending other than 'death' (I picked up 7 artifacts at most, and if I just came short, I wouldn't know...)

Also the wall graphics maybe blend in too much with the floor. However, the shadow effect makes that sort of a non-issue.

Every ten seconds, the game skips... by davidsheadgames 2022-10-06T17:29:19Z

@0x-void-x0 @last-angle Thank you for the feedback about the dragon. Yes, I playtested it, but I can see how it's super tough with the shoot mechanics as they are at the moment (and lack of visual hurt indicator for when you hit the dragon). I promise it is winnable.

I can take a look into fixing the dragon up for a 1.1 build and maybe improve on the shoot mechanics.

Stuck gun by mira 2022-10-06T10:28:58Z

So easy, an incompetent like me could play it!

This was really an innovative concept! And a very clever approach to the level design, putting in some areas that were just general choke areas in level 2.

Yeah, this one came together great!

Every 10 seconds life by aDeCon 2022-10-09T17:47:47Z

The minigames are extremely tough, but thank goodness the game is forgiving ^^;;

If only life had so many retries...

My Creatures by Itskdog 2022-10-11T06:47:37Z

Very interesting concept. Very chaotic after a few minutes! The blobs eventually just evened out in a way where none of the remaining blobs could make anything new (purples, oranges, and black), so it sort of just stagnated.

They seem to lay eggs faster than starving, so there's just a perpetual monster farm that will never run out. I just kept selling til 10K and figured that was the best I could do in my run.

I did find out you could cripple yourself at the beginning by selling the first blobs without realizing they don't come back XD

My Creatures by Itskdog 2022-10-13T06:51:25Z

@itskdog Understandable. That's how it goes in game jams.

Interesting idea, though!

The Curse of Household Chaos by LightBoat 2022-10-06T10:12:29Z

The pixel art graphics and the concept/idea are really good! But it really needs a balance pass so it's possible to win without luck! Once a task list requires both the hammer and a wrench, it's a lost game.

Probably the easiest fix would be to add another door on the main house that's closer to the shed.

Raidar by Paul Merkamp 2022-10-19T05:02:39Z

This is a unique take on the '10 seconds' theme and I really like the concept. However, it's really hard to not die because of the floaty controls and really low amount of HP.

There's a version of this game that's more forgiving about the fade-off between radar pulses and has a much larger health pool, and I think that would be more my pace. However, I think that's a balance pass thing, and I think it would be cool to see it in a future version of the game.

Also the tether seems to bug up a lot and get caught up on itself, getting tangled before being about to extend all the way.

Rayna Runs by eeperdeheap 2022-10-09T03:13:06Z

The controls are a bit of a challenge to use, which was already called out. I think there are also problems with collision where jumps may not clear if the player is jumping up while near a platform, leading to have to do a running jump at all jumps. Most 3D platformers provide a second set of inputs specific to allow control of the camera, but I'm grateful there was any camera control at all, even if delayed and limited to where the player was facing.

Still, good job with a first jam! The song was pretty catchy, even as a basic tune. Hits a DOS game vibe.

Dragua by Hawkin 2022-10-09T03:32:09Z

I really dig the move speed and the fact there is enough to work with for the player to know what's going on. I think the map generation is a little too aggressive with the tree placement, especially since it doesn't seem like trees can be cut down at all (Vines are dubious depending on if the player gets a scythe soon).

Late game, the seeming lack of respawning made it too hard to progress much longer.

It also seems like specific rewards only need to be earned once (scythe/sword) and additional pickups just waste inventory space.

Also, 'shift' is a dangerous key to utilize when multiple taps are needed (so many prompts about Windows "Sticky Keys")

Otherwise, this is a great concept and I hope it gets polished later on!

Death by 10 seconds by iCalm 2022-10-09T08:00:31Z

Nothing at all what I expected from a game jam, but surprising!

NGL, I technically got level 30, but only by the technicality that it's minecraft, and I just dug a hole underground and put some torches. Hid under there until the entire map was infinitely firebombed by dragons and withers.

Take your sh*t,please by commanderzzx 2022-10-19T05:09:59Z

Very stressful, yet easy-to-learn matching sort of game!

The first time I managed not to screw up at all, but the second time I made a deliberate screw-up run (to test it out). Surprisingly well-polished as a game.

Great job!

BackToSchool by Ironfred 2022-10-09T04:53:52Z

Uhh... just going to call out that the doors on the web version are bugged. For some reason, aside from the toilet door, the player can just slip through a tiny crack in the door and just walk out.

I'll try to review this proper later on. Just calling out a bug.

Fred the Egg the Gardener by zazz0000 2022-10-09T17:21:01Z

The art direction and style is fascinating in this game (I like it!). Unfortunately, the profit margins are so slim (and there are so many things killing the plant) that I could only afford to plant flowers the whole time. The only thing driving a profit was weed killing.

Once I bought a watermelon seed, it all went downhill even after several in-game days.

I think it's a statement that the rent goes from $5 to $15 suddenly too, but it might be too fast and needs balance, as it makes profits too thin for the game to progress.

Very interesting game though! It would be nice if the player could place tools on the boxes, so they can organize, but that's just opinion ^^;

locked in by Re-Mar 2022-10-11T07:07:11Z

The art style looks great! However, there are a lot of bugs that seem to get in the way of completing the game.

You can soft-lock yourself regularly by getting one of the riddles wrong and then never being able to see the prompt again, and I think the first riddle (the one with 'time' as the answer) doesn't seem to save, so you keep losing the 'Si' note after the scene transitions.

I dig the concept somewhat, though the bugs I experienced make it hard to appreciate.

Just One More by Chairshot Games 2022-10-09T03:56:49Z

This is hilarious as a concept. I know with more time on the level, there's much potential for the different playstyles as is without needing to make an obvious path per player type.

One suggestion for improvement is that it would be nice to do a marathon version that just repeats on uncompleted types until you complete a run on each one that wasn't completed yet. I found myself just spam-killing ones I already defeated instead of trying to best my time with each one. It was more fun figuring out how to do a run with each than to rerun ones I already completed.

Otherwise, very fun concept. I appreciate the tiny ragdoll on 'tiny'

Escape from Minefields by Ggross 2022-10-06T10:44:53Z

Very interesting approach to the ten second idea. Very stressful! I feel having the expanding grid may have been overkill, but it was definitely challenging!

I did win eventually... but at what cost?

Only call-out from an engine perspective: Unity3D has specific sprite graphic settings to make them look crisper, specifically for pixel art. Try changing the filtering to 'point' filtering and turning off compression.

Time: Cardmancer by AkaCMD 2022-10-09T04:25:02Z

Very cool concept and I hope to see more done with it!

Some of the cards were too confusing to tell what they did (reverse extend was a bit confusing). Also, victory was pretty much random as I relied too much on 'steal' or '2x' and got a bit flustered to try anything too strategic. 'Cut' made sense, while 'Copy' and 'Swap' were a bit too difficult to plan out in the moment.

Maybe if the time bar was moving slower or if there was more opportunity to train.

Anyways, for a jam, this was done great! Very well polished!

Escape the Island by john-wuller 2022-10-09T05:50:46Z

The 3D models here are great! It feels like a polished, finished game just on the style alone!

The game has some 'interesting' quirks with its drifty motion (takes a while for a turn to register), floaty 'gravity', and odd collisions that I both want fixed and yet want left alone because some of those quirks made this game so fun in the first place.

I think these are more polish points than anything against the concept itself. The concept is solid. I'd like to see this turned into a real game!

One note, for hard mode, this game could really benefit from a minimap or something. Some kind of indicator for the parts, as it becomes quite like a maze once enough parts of the island collapse.

Otherwise, a solid entry!

Edit: oh, one more note, the scrap pile pickups and the scrap platforms look VERY similar to one another, and in a bad way. It might be good to add more visible differences like color or even just making the pickup rotate could help.

Two Tanks by K3y 2022-10-09T04:46:08Z

This starts out brutal, but once you notice the pattern(s) it's pretty easy to out-maneuver. The major challenges are the heat-seeking missle and circle-strafing for such a long period of time.

Great job for a first game jam and your first game programming jam!

In Season by Ha-kuro 2022-10-09T05:18:20Z

This farmer has the strangest hairstyle I've seen! However, the pixel art style looks great! Also, the mechanics of the game itself feel well-polished. The only thing I'd ask for is a way for the click to move the character to a position instead of having the character just shake their head 'no' because of a misclick.

Also, the $400 penalty a year is surprisingly easy to overcome. So much so I had to test it by waiting it out to confirm that the farm DID lose money after a while. So... mostly a balance issue, but it's nice that it's in the player's favor at least.

I dig this entry!

BabySitter by Bastillas 2022-10-19T05:50:41Z

The song and the graphical style is really good for that retro aesthetic. Unfortunately, there are a lot of problems with the general collision, and it makes the game far too unforgiving to be enjoyable.

There's something going on with the alien remembering the room it was in, which is cool. But again, with collisions as they are, it's too easy to get trapped in unwinnable states.

Also, as an aside, it would be nice to color code the doors that don't work or just don't include doors that don't open.

Also, as an aside aside, the default gray text on default light blue in Unity3D makes for extremely difficult to read instructions :(

Luzy Lazer by Magnus Lindh 2022-10-09T04:12:15Z

Unfortunately, the version on the Ludum Dare website seems to be having issues, but the web version on itch is working fine!

The game itself is chill enough that even the loss of controls is almost manageable. The real danger is the fact that using keyboard controls caused the itch page to move around because of HTML context issues, I think.

I wonder if the game would have felt different with Asteroid-like tank controls instead of Space Invaders.

Also... my first impulse was to try to run into the cherry and not shoot it XD, so maybe fruit is not the best pixel art to use as something dangerous.

Out To Pasture! by RaspbarryGames 2022-10-09T06:39:13Z

Ram lady guides sheep home by smacking them with a cane.

The sphere world and the shader effect look good. A bit disorienting and hard to tell where the fenced area was most of the time.

Not sure how I feel about using a cane and smacking sheep with it to get them to move...

Amazing graphics. Truly a grand use of the Unreal engine. I'm amazed you made something this visually beautiful in 48 hours.

I can 'imagine' great things with this game in the future...

Squirrel puncher by eerongal 2024-10-08T13:35:39Z

This game is evil. Don't punch squirrels... XD

Otherwise, I had a blast. I love the art style on the pixel-art and the pop-art title card.

Bunny’s Dusty Odyssey by Snowdrama 2024-10-09T03:38:59Z

It feels a lot like it could be a great mini-game in a Splatoon-like game. The music and the character models looked really on-point and colorful!

It probably could have benefitted from an ending... unless I missed it after dying at like level 9 or so.

Nice job!

If You Give A Mouse A Machinegun by Shaolin Dave 2024-10-08T14:49:07Z

Props to the idea and game name. I just wish I could rate it. I love the little text tongue-in-cheek cop-out ending

Thanks for a short, fun time :)

Bees Save Themselves by MayChant 2024-10-09T01:59:04Z

Very fun as is! I like the interesting strategy between the temptation to huddle vs the advantage of being spread apart. It's a very clever use of the theme.

Only issue to me is that it's balanced to be too easy on the player. I played at least 5-6 times without any feeling of it getting difficult.

Monster Strike by COKE 2024-10-09T02:12:28Z

A very interesting idea. I like the execution too, and the inversion of expectations with 'Tiny Creatures' as the theme. I think the monsters need to be sped up by a bit, as it takes a bit long for them to walk from building to building.

It's pretty quick to pick up what you're supposed to do, which is a good sign the 'beginning level' is working.

Also, a minor bug: the framerate started to tank hard when the monster started fighting the four tanks at level 3. I'm not sure what happened, but it got worse and worse the longer the game went, even after destroying the tanks. Eventually the music failed to play because of the framerate (I think)

Otherwise, very neat idea and implementation ^^

Who's Behind the Fix? by 1337life 2024-10-09T19:07:30Z

The intro part was neat and I dig the pendulum animation going back and forth with the wrench!

And neat job implementing the point connection puzzle mini-game into your game. Works now without issue!

Awesome job on your jam game.

Will It Run? by UseCondsomsKid 2024-10-08T13:30:13Z

It's an interesting concept. I like that the alien changes color each time. It took me a few times to brute force my way through the controls (maybe just have them in the description as a just in case, I know it's a game jam.)

I think there might also be a bug in the alien text when they're giving you a 'button' as the text seems to get cut off at describing the action they want.

Tiny World Mayhem by Transkuja 2024-10-09T20:21:38Z

This was super polished and a lot of fun to play. Awesome job. The perfect jam project X)

Monster Maze by Matt Swieboda 2024-10-08T14:45:12Z

The two mazes are interesting explorations on the difference between wide corridors and tiny ones.

Not sure I'm a fan of maze games on the whole, but the lighting mechanic (the 'fog of war' aspect) was really neat! If the lamp oil refills weren't so sparsely spread apart, I think it might be a little more fair.

The enemies closing in definitely gives a creepy vibe once I realized what was going on. It's a nice touch

Medic Mayhem++ by Martta 2024-10-08T01:54:21Z

Definitely an awesome game!

The setup menu is a bit unintuitive on start... but once I got a proper game started, it was great!

One thing that came up in my game is the AI truck kept driving over a block and getting stuck.

I'm really impressed this has support for AI and multiplayer. Great stuff!

Lost Orbit by PSV Games Studio 2024-10-13T03:52:23Z

It was an interesting little puzzle game. I'm impressed on how you made it for a jam. Great work! My only feedback is maybe to let the 'Q' command be available from the get go, just so it's easier to learn controls immediately and not have to trigger the specific tutorial bit that gets it going.

Fallen Angel: A Larry Chin Mystery by Tobius 2024-10-09T03:06:04Z

Also, very creative use of tiny items as props throughout!

Great job!

King of the Hill by john-wuller 2024-10-09T02:26:52Z

An interesting game idea, well within the theme!

It feels a bit bugged (no pun intended) with the extremely sensitive WASD camera and the pathfinding sometimes.

Very neat prototype for a Jam though and I like the sounds and models!

Tiny Brigades by nataku92 2024-10-08T01:40:23Z

Very neat! I'm impressed you made a whole battle with cards in the jam.

I seem to occasionally hit a bug where after ending a turn, the boss doesn't do anything, leading to an unfortunate soft-lock.

Very neat, though!

Candy Quest by Lautaro Q 2024-10-14T05:06:32Z

This was a solid time with an RPG like game. I dig the art style of the candy monsters. Very creative use of the theme.

Also, great extra by using Halloween as part of your game's theme as well. That's a great combination!

Farmer Friendly Ladybug by Tharinda Kodikara 2024-10-14T15:49:19Z

Nice and simple. Congrats on your first Ludum Dare jam :)

One 'bug' I'll call out: the randomness of the 'pest' placement sometimes lead to getting multiple points just by the pests spawning right on the player ladybug.

You could tweak that a little with a quick collision check first before placing, just to make it slightly more challenging.

But otherwise, nice and simple. I dig it :)

Wish Town by Iwant_Pizza 2024-10-09T05:07:33Z

I think I broke the last part... I keep sneaking past in the woods and get to a part where the screen fades to black. At first I thought it was an ending, but it just stays black after reaching the 'exit'.

Still, I like the horror aesthetic going on. ^^

Vortex of Life by yvpian 2024-10-09T15:57:13Z

The UI is difficult to navigate through, maybe because of a bug? Clicking on elements sometimes doesn't go through and I have to click around things, I think (?)

However, the art style and the story behind rats experimenting on making a civilization in a petri dish is great!

Maybe adding a little better explanation of the individual elements might make it easier to understand the consequences of choosing one option or another. Having only visuals and a wonky UI makes it really hard to know what's going on.

Rat Game by Pachino55 2024-10-09T05:58:05Z

"Cool. We date now."

"Yay"

I love that the piano follows the dialogue.

Thank you for making the game forgiving and letting you retry the level on death.

The platforming is a bit rough, but I appreciate the effort in jamming this out :mouse:

Find Tiny Monsty by TrIoXXDreaper 2024-10-08T13:51:27Z

Frogotten Focus by Clare_Chan1738 2024-10-09T19:18:05Z

I cannot beat this one. It's a bit hard to aim and move at the same time and my muscle memory with 'Q' makes it way harder to hit 'Q' than to hit 'E'.

Great job on your first entry, though! Especially as a compo!

Koi by A Priori 2024-10-08T13:57:58Z

Very nicely done way of doing 'boids' as fish. It's visually pleasing and the music adds a lot to the experience.

I think the percentage points is a little hard to read in the score, but I figured out the meaning after a bit.

Nice jam!

Turtle Shepard by Tsaot 2024-10-09T03:19:08Z

This is a really creative and unique choice of game to go with the theme. It feels very personal too, with how specific some of the fail conditions are and how it's just near impossible to do it perfectly.

Very neat entry!

Wreckless Rally by Flaterectomy 2018-04-24T01:16:32Z

I like the concept provided actually! And the frog is hilarious!

Officer Pain - The Smash Cop by DaragonGames 2018-05-12T21:33:25Z

The art and music are great, but otherwise, the game kinda felt like a bit of a mess in terms of design and programming, which happens when making a jam game.

I'd suggest maybe some visual feedback for the charged shot, like a progression bar or something.

Also, the text was hard to read because it seemed to pop up behind characters at times. Possibly a dialog box with a pause in the action to let the player read could have helped, though that would have a bit of an impact on the flow of the fighting game itself.

The concept is intriguing and I could see potential in taking the same idea and polishing the mechanics a bunch. A decent idea and effort!

As far as bugs, there's a sound glitch occasionally with the hit noise. I also noticed if you wait it out and let the player's HP counter drain, it just goes into the negatives.

Drive Threw by Zachary Burkett 2018-05-09T01:59:57Z

Fun concept! However, there were a lot of problems.

I loved the idea of having two things that required your time, that worked really well. However, knowing when something was 'burnt' or how to 'flip' items wasn't very intuitive. I had to read the instructions a few times before finally catching onto what I was doing wrong.

The graphics also don't really telegraph whether something is 'done' either. I thought the gray smoke was "done" initially, before realizing it was never 'burning', so it must have been a fail. Perhaps maybe include charred gray graphics for the items when they are burned?

Also, the stacking mechanic was a little broken, as it seemed random whether two things put relatively close would actually pick up or not. Not sure what the rules were for that. Also, ordering borked a few times, which cheated me out of getting a positive score (my best score is 9 now!)

Also, I think the mellow music sort of contrasted with the timer challenge of it. I sort of wonder what this game would be like as an infinite game with finances being the limit (paying for gas, burger materials, and using money gained to keep going.)

I think with a lot of rework of the controls, this could be its own little cult classic.

Dragoon Drop by jhandsy 2018-05-01T02:25:04Z

This is an extremely good entry and has a lot of interesting potential as a full game.

My only issue is that the drawing in a direction from the player was a little unintuitive. I know I kept making a lot of mistakes in direction, which resulted in me going left when I wanted to go the other way. My suggestion would be to make a visible draggable area for direction.

The "attack all" moves also are a bit confusing, as it didn't appear to attack everything on the screen. Not sure what I'd suggest for that.

Quadsoup by thevaber 2018-05-12T22:04:53Z

I actually really loved this entry. Finished with a score of 6300. I didn't pick up on the theme of what two incompatible things you were combining, but I think it'd really work well with an additional horror spin to it.

My only issue is that in windowed mode, the mouse would still show up, which wasn't a problem in this particular game because I didn't need to click for anything, but it's a nice polish to just disable it and it's not hard to do in Unity.

Excellent work with sound and design of the environment

YOU LEFT ME. by Angela He 2018-04-27T05:47:31Z

I think the art is really good here, and extremely impressive for a couple of days, but I didn't really like this as a game. I enjoyed the cat character and parts of the initial scene, but there's just something about the mechanics that just feels a little too broken to me. Also, for a theme, visual novel is somewhat a sub-genre of point and click, so... they feel too similar to really call a 'clash'.

The story of loss and memory it a bit of a cliche as well, and while I think these elements can be handled much better, I just didn't see it happening here.

Also, the web version on newgrounds is particularly buggy, but I tried not to hold that against this game.

Perhaps the game and story are just plainly not for me.

Still, I really think the art is great and I particularly liked cyclops cat!

Cebe by Sapazu 2018-05-09T03:06:16Z

I really like this idea. It's fun!

My only complaint would just be the odd timing of pieces and when it counts for you or against you. I'm not sure how to polish that, but sometimes the difference between winning and losing is microscopic in terms of timing.

I love the idea though and it'd be cool to see where it could go.

Blindly Loving by hasuprobe 2018-05-09T02:39:48Z

While I appreciate minimalism, I don't really understand this one, even as a sort of simulator.

This definitely gets a 5 for sound from me though! The use of FMod was awesome and the mating call noises were hilarious.

It's not for me, but it's an interesting experiment, if mostly from the FMod.

PlatSCII by whycardboard 2018-05-09T01:27:43Z

I really liked the concept presented here. There's potential for a fuller game, for sure!

Some notes for improvement: - The tutorial seems broken. Typing the f+j doesn't go through, it would seem. Not sure if maybe I mistyped it, but it's nigh impossible to tell. Also, I feel the text in the main menu did a much better job explaining it than the tutorial did. - The text field for the menu doesn't really give a clear indication you're supposed to type there. It was by pure chance the cursor was on the enter field one time when I restarted. - The text field at the start of some levels loses focus, which means I have to know to click into there in order to play. - The volume level of the last sound was much louder than the others, which is kind of a feel bad. (RIP headphone users)

Otherwise, this is a very solid idea executed well for a short, fun experience. It's well-balanced for what it was aiming to do.

Sweets Crumble by Epiin 2018-04-25T06:02:48Z

I liked the concept, but the physics felt extremely weighty and made it near impossible to get a match three when you didn't have at least two matching at the start of a turn.

I think it might be interesting to make it a little less "heavy" feeling, even if that may or may not make it too easy.

Helsing by davidsheadgames 2018-05-10T03:42:24Z

@Acuity Thanks for your feedback! Yeah, a lack of instructions in the game itself is a bit of a detriment. Space should fire the gun.

Soccer Slasher by Supernapie 2018-05-09T01:38:59Z

I like the challenge of guiding the ball. I would say it's definitely a challenge getting the ball to hit enemies.

The choice of "Take me out to the ball game" as background noise is a bit odd. Usually that's with baseball.

I guess if I was going to make a suggestion, maybe make the ball's friction a little higher, or provide more balls on the field. It's a little awkward chasing after the ball after missing an enemy. I suppose that could work as part of the challenge, but it was a bit lengthy of a chase.

Good effort!

One Man Crew by Lucas Hoffmann 2018-05-12T20:34:12Z

Dude, congrats on making it in 6 hours!

It could have maybe used some more variety in obstacles. I only saw the top stalactites and the one stalagmite that you had to move around. It got a little repetitive.

I guess if I had a note for future releases, I definitely saw no benefit in using the right or left arrows in playing it, because of how long it takes to actually get the ship to start moving in that direction.

That said, it's a hilarious emphasis on how incompatible the two game modes are, and well-done for a game in 6-hours
