LD44 — Your life is currency

Game of Fields by jkniest 2019-05-12T17:44:08Z

The aesthetics are great! The music, art style and genre mash together very well. I think it's one of those games that would actually do better without the awful "life is currency" constraint. Having colliders on both the dice and the envoronment can get awkward, though - gameoffields.PNG

Gacha by zchen 2019-05-04T04:00:06Z

It gives me a nostalgic feeling... and the art is just great and sets the mood perfectly!

Board Life by Serious07 2019-05-09T23:01:49Z

Interesting design and great art! The realistic dice actually make it less random and a bit more reaction/skill based. But I had to quit the game when one of them got stuck on the other one's side, the same way as mentioned above by another player.

Apothecary's Piggy Bank by MayChant 2019-05-04T04:03:14Z

@hypp In fact, when I was doing further testing I discovered that you should upgrade the value once in the very beginning, and then focus on aura and immunization. Especially immunization, since you'll need to buy it at least once before air transmission breaks out, which is the deadliest mutation by my experience (and kind of designed as such)

Apothecary's Piggy Bank by MayChant 2019-05-06T22:38:29Z

@pincushion Thanks for the comment! Protecting one healthy person until the end is part of the experience, and I did plan to handle that scenario properly with a proper ending, but didn't have enough time for that.

@gentel Thanks for the detailed analysis :P There's a lot of random factors in this game, including mutations and spawning points of patients. So depending on the RNG the game might suffer from early game hell or become trivial after some point.

Apothecary's Piggy Bank by MayChant 2019-05-09T22:51:45Z

@pengda Thanks for the feedback! Yes there's this recurring bug that if the player keeps hitting the wall for a while there's a chance it can go through it... I'm looking into it.

Last Stand by KeyurRana 2019-05-05T16:23:22Z

Solid mechanics and I liked it. I have a couple of suggestions: 1. It's not immediately clear that uploading data successfully does not mean winning. Besides, keeping on playing the game after the objective is fulfilled is kind of pointless. So perhaps the game can end when the data upload is successful. 2. I found a way to fool the enemy AI. I can block the path of the enemy that is the closest to the only node left by leaving an energy crate between said enemy and the node. In that case the other enemies would not move and the blocked enemy won't seek for another path. enemy.PNG

What's your lifetime value? by BlackLambert 2019-05-03T04:52:08Z

Great art! It'd be nice to have some instructions on which values each action would affect, though, since there are so many to keep track of.

if(life) by sundhar 2019-05-06T03:29:46Z

The graphics are cute, but also kind of inconsistent, in the sense that the player character is the only one that has lines, while the enemies are all lineless.

power+light by Johan Alexandersson 2019-05-10T00:48:21Z

Nice aesthetics and fun to play! One thing I would suggest is that perhaps the collision detection on the player can be a bit more forgiving? I get stuck when turning from time to time.

TheDescent by geist_191 2019-05-05T03:01:24Z

The pixel graphics are impressive! It manages to make the traps and monsters look pretty gory, but at the same time the ending is kind of... sweet? I stopped seeing how many blood drops I have left after the fourth or fifth death. Not sure if it's intentional though.

InstaLifePlus by VoidAerun 2019-05-03T04:42:18Z

In my first run I've been constantly worrying about getting jumpscares ever since I noticed the news... and closed the game reflexively when the volume went down O_o

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Closing the Loop by Frederika 2020-10-10T00:29:20Z

I think a good way to expand on this idea would be to have levels where each appliance needs a particular voltage to run. That way it becomes a nice puzzle game.

Smol Dungeon by claymanoo 2020-10-10T02:02:44Z

It's a really cute game! I really need the ability to shoot while I'm moving though. Now whenever I shoot I'm stuck at where I am until the shooting animation is done and it's a problem with levels involving ghosts.

Fish Balls by Gao Ming 2020-10-05T03:17:54Z

It's a cute game and I like it a lot. I'm into the music and the art style. I find the progression in the beginning to be a little slow, since the proportion of high-value fish in the pool can only build up over time.

waveloop by radmars 2020-10-16T02:45:53Z

This is very unique. I like the way the music develops through the level progression. It's nice that the entire game just loops back to the first level, too since it's like looping back to the start of the music. It's not immediately when the tracks are supposed to be turned back to silence though and I only realized they're wrong when I checked correctness.

A Certain Particle Chamber by Baturinsky 2020-10-05T16:36:20Z

A very geeky game, which I'm all for. I like a lot of the levels which impose meaningful optional challenges. When I move the circles they don't quite stick to my mouse, which is a little weird, so I think that can be improved on.

Duplicafé by kantieno 2020-10-11T00:32:29Z

I like this type of game that requires both thinking and a bit of skill. I got the last task done by accident (deliver 20 on the 5th day but none on any other day) but I definitely didn't do that. It's probably a bug.

Led Astray by Lyrcaxis 2020-10-10T23:23:48Z

I like the art style. I got stuck in the basement since I cannot jump high enough to reach the key. Any help here? I really want to play until the end.

Led Astray by Lyrcaxis 2020-10-10T23:56:51Z

@lyrcaxis Ah. I didn't realize that I could dash while pressing up. I slowly got very proficient at the space + up + shift routine. It was a little short but a great experience nonetheless.

Debug Or Die by Balance686 2020-10-12T05:18:47Z

A pretty solid game. The intention of the puzzles are clear and the elements are easy to understand. I would really benefit from an undo button though since I accidentally pushed the blocks onto the wall or into the corner way too many times and had to start over every time it happened.

Day 1 by Benjamin123 2020-10-05T00:06:06Z

There's a solution that works (perhaps) 100% of the time, if I may - 1. Keep building house + lab, patch the rifts when they appear. Keep doing it to accumulate SU 2. The turn when you start with 40 SU, build two factories and a temporal field generator beside them 3. Build two labs in the range of the field. Patch rifts if they appear 4. After accumulating enough SU and RU, build temporal labs and have them covered by more temporal field generators 5. Build the rift generator within range of a field. Now just wait and patch rifts that appear afterwards.

In fact the first step takes an enormous amount of time and the following steps are very quick. Basically the game is won after the set-up is done. Not sure how often the rifts appear. The rate at which they appear decides how long the first step takes.

The tips in the first couple of days are pretty useful as they provide context for the functionalities of special buildings. The game delivers a grim mood which is fitting for the theme. Good job :)

hudunnit by Minus 2020-10-07T23:36:19Z

I like the concept of having the detective to also be the victim, if that's what was intended. I hope the loop was more of a story element though since it looks like it's just a gimmick?

Spirit Scouts by Emiliabea 2020-10-08T04:11:38Z

It's such a sad premise - and without the level of cynicism that I expected because all of the rude replies ended up being red herrings lol. I love the looks and feels of the game. It would make more sense if the characters from past levels disappeared because the premise of the game is that they find the person they're missing and went to a new life together.

Spiiin by Temulgeh 2020-10-07T22:00:40Z

It's simple, neat and fun. I can see that it'll benefit a lot from some sound effects.

Looping by guimoliveira 2020-10-10T01:12:55Z

The flashing screen is... cruel and unusual. Figuring out how to break out of the loop within each level is fun, but setting back to an earlier level only adds to the frustration because I already know how to pass those levels, so I'm just penalized to repeat the exact same work if I make a wrong and arbitrary choice in a later level. Looping back to level 1 at the final level is fine with me, though since the whole game has been experienced.

Lost In The Woods by PatrickJR 2020-10-10T01:37:16Z

~~A gender reveal simulator, very nice.~~

It was a bit of a challenge. I just walked into the rabbit hole by accident at the end. I like the concept and the art style fits what it's trying to do.

Imperial Eggnog Incorporated by Blue Pin Studio 2020-10-08T03:01:47Z

It's great! I slowly got super efficient as I could remember the colors and some of the ingredients. How many endings are there? I got one where I was fired before the last day, and when I complied all along I got stuck at day 6. Is there another ending for if I defied the order only on the sixth day? It's super exhausting so I'd rather not play a third time if there's not another ending.

Challenge Accepted by yangying 2020-10-09T04:11:40Z

I really dig the art style. I'm stuck in the loop on the last question... Is there a special ending for if I get to the last question without making any mistake?

Infinite Dynasty by daidiimon 2020-10-10T02:23:16Z

This is nice. I'll definitely want to play a more polished version of this game with more features. After restarting the game the menu disappears on the second year so I couldn't continue. I tried really hard to make sure my citizens aren't too happy so I could conquer the entire map. conquered.png

Maze Service by Oshawatt123 2020-10-05T21:51:12Z

I KNEW ONE OF THOSE WAS GONNA BE A RICKROLL

Groovy Loops by Simpathey 2020-10-08T05:34:06Z

I like the concept. As of now it's a very skill-based game rather than a puzzle. It feels kinda slippery because I don't immediately stop moving in the x-direction when I release A/D, not sure if it's intended.

Exit The While by ZebraVogel 2020-10-07T22:16:43Z

Interesting idea. It's like an educational math game with a little programming flavour added to it.

- by SeansHome 2020-10-17T02:17:43Z

The girl that asked us out looks like such a nice person.

Treasure Hunt by cnewt 2020-10-04T23:23:16Z

I like that it's a twist on the robot programming-esque game where there are more environment factors. Transition between levels can be faster to improve the pacing. Also since the only commands are the directions, it'd make the control easier to allow input through keyboard.

While we are here - stuck in a loop by Seskon 2020-10-08T00:21:59Z

So... I can't see the plain text. I did like five levels without seeing them but I can't do it anymore. Any idea why? cantsee.PNG

Mom! I've got a job! by Food Lovers 2020-10-08T01:30:55Z

The graphics and soundtrack are great. Once you get hit by the goats between the bookshelves in the last level you just get stuck there for a while. I hope the collision on the goats were a little bit more forgiving.

T O R O I D I R by Charlie Hall 2020-10-08T00:01:35Z

Nice concept! The art style is pretty smooth, too. The only complaint I had was that my windows computer keeps asking me if I want to enable sticky keys - perhaps there are better alternatives than the shift key.

Reincarnation by Omeletton 2020-10-07T12:38:41Z

You can edit the project on itch.io to set "Kind of project" to be "HTML" and check "This file will be played in the browser" on the file, after which the game will be playable on the page. It doesn't load for me after I downloaded because of CORS policy doesn't recognize the source.

LOOPY by Cinar 2020-10-07T01:02:22Z

Great game! As mentioned by others, the point does not perform a loop that perfectly because it bounces back after the collision. It would help if the colliders on target points are set to triggers, so that they are not treated as solid objects.

Loopity Loop by JafCraze 2020-10-16T02:24:38Z

A nice little game, I love it! One thing I would change about it is that the transition of camera positions could be smoother so it's easier on the eye. Good job!

DeliveryTruck by Cerins 2020-10-10T22:56:02Z

This is cool. I like the mechanics. It can benefit from making the roads added by the player a different color to distinguish them from the initial ones, because they are removable, unlike the initial ones.

LD49 — Unstable

Puzzled Love by Yaroslav Kravtsov 2021-10-04T14:34:40Z

It's very unique! I'm impressed by how much was put together in three days and the art and music fit the mood. The puzzle piece snapping can feel a bit unforgiving sometimes.

CryptoCoaster by the.jahn 2021-10-05T03:05:19Z

Best crypto trading game I've seen this jam. Congrats on getting frontpaged on newgrounds :)

Uprooted by Zettelkasten 2021-10-06T23:07:25Z

I like the art style and the puzzle design. It's funny how the trees go bald transitioning between levels. Though it'd be nice to have an option to undo. Not sure if there is one but I didn't find it.

A Frog's Life T_T by MayChant 2021-10-09T16:04:19Z

@bgdc Thanks for playing! It might be a bit too late but you can press ESC in game to be brought back to the level selection screen.

Earthquake City Builder by JM Studio 2021-10-04T16:16:27Z

It fits the theme perfectly. I like how the buildings have different patterns on them. It's a nice detail. I'm a bit confused how to increase the maximum number of banks though.

Void Jumper by Platyp 2021-10-04T23:52:13Z

Interesting concept. I couldn't figure out how to score at first but after I did there was a clear goal what to do and how to do better.

Everything is Fine by Noire 2021-10-04T23:23:35Z

The storytelling methods are great. I just hope it was a bit longer.

Unstable Pinball by T C 2021-10-05T00:52:07Z

Capture.PNG

Is it the end of the game? I'm not getting any more content after the ball left through the top. The way the game incorporates the pinball mechanic with story beats is pretty innovative and I can see that concept be expanded further. But I must say the last part was frustrating cause it was extremely hard to get the ball to fall onto the right paddle.

can't let go by Matthewsworld 2021-10-07T03:04:36Z

This game delivers very strong emotions and reminds me of all the flaky people I know in my life. It's hard but the checkpoints are generous so it works out in the end. I chose to not forgive or apologize, but I'm wondering if the ending would be different if I chose otherwise?

Wobbly Warbler by EricFreeman 2021-10-06T01:08:20Z

I love this. The fighting style reminds me of fencing.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

First saw this on a gaming channel and heard "this is a jam game", and was like "wait is it LD50???" It's cool that you managed to do so much in 48 hours. I clicked on "quit" on vacation assuming it meant "quit vacation" and my buddy just died... It's sad that I can't retry without hacking.

Inevitable by orukinawa 2022-04-14T02:12:14Z

Somehow I had the feeling there'd be a jump scare somewhere but it never happened

Make a Manga Series but It's a Fishing Game by MayChant 2022-04-11T04:08:12Z

@0x746564 Ah you're right. I guess I never replayed when I was testing.

I attempted to convey the author running out of ideas in two ways - increased number of creative blocks (plastic bags that waste your time) and decreased number of ideas (fish). Perhaps increasing the number of creative blocks would've been enough, and the fish number can be somewhat consistent, so that it would be hard but not mathematically impossible to fulfill the expectation after about 10 weeks.

Ludum Dare 50 - Don't Give Up by Furtive Pygmy 2022-04-10T02:25:24Z

I got the first and third levels in one try. The chicken one was so hard, especially with the slipping bug but I somehow managed to do it after about 5 tries. But that's also the one that conveys the emotion the best out of the three. Would be nice if this level has a mechanic to increase happiness (unless there's one already but I didn't notice). Good job!

Lethal Dice 50 by marcmagus 2022-04-09T17:30:15Z

Not bad. There's a bit strategic element in picking which dice to preserve. But not much can be done when this was my first roll. Time to flip the table first round.PNG

Tartarus Panic by AceArcher 2022-04-13T01:57:11Z

I like mythologies and games inspired by them. However I don't have enough knowledge about the mythologies for the snake one and the donkey one so I had no idea what to do with them. It'd be nice to have a bit of hint in the game.

Box Blocks by CaptAndrey 2022-04-13T02:07:10Z

Cool game! It's a bit too random but there's also a strategic element for which blocks to use on lava in each direction. Although when they're getting too close I just throw anything that's big enough in their way.

FreeFall by aaron1_cabj 2022-04-10T21:57:36Z

I like how the background changes as I fall so there's a feeling of progression. Although it does make me wonder if there's an end to it? I survived for 446 seconds but no sign I might hit the ground safely any time soon.

Flat Idea by carlinhu 2022-04-09T22:00:52Z

I love the sound and visuals! The game feels complete, and the humor and irony is great.

I could get past the 1 minute mark, but I think the situation is unsalvageable when the inclination gets past a certain mark, even if I snipe down all the buildings on that end.

For a game with such a short game session it would be nice to have a replay button instead of having to load the menu every time to restart.

Oedipus Rex by Brachistosauro 2022-04-14T01:27:09Z

I loved it. I tried to avoid the "true" ending so I ended up repeating one of the two alternative endings, after which the game ended. Anyway it's an interesting twist on a well-known concept and the ending line was unexpected. Great job!

Inevitable by MatchaMaze 2022-04-13T02:45:38Z

I love the visual and audio effects. However as a game it seems like the only way to get the full intended experience is to... not try to play it and let yourself experience the process of losing. Or is there actually a way to escape?

Door Man by Mavvy 2022-04-05T01:45:55Z

Short, but nice. I thought the girl was my girlfriend who just had a big argument with me before reading the description.

Foundations by 0x746564 2022-04-10T23:19:41Z

Normal mode is kinda trivial but hard mode feels like a card game that fits into he Microsoft solitaire collection. Aside from allowing dragging, maybe auto selecting the card that's revealed would also be nice cause that'd be the only valid action after that.

Circleville by Pierce Brooks 2022-04-11T06:04:55Z

I got to level 4 and still have no idea what the objective is. But it sounds like math and the first link I found by googling "distance sum inequalities" looks like an essay about something other than geometry

Neverwash by ironcutter 2022-04-10T02:47:04Z

I love the interpretation of the theme. It'd be more intuitive to play if the grids the object will fall into are highlighted before I put them in.

Male Pattern Boldness by Choo 2022-04-13T03:03:07Z

I already started laughing after seeing the thumbnail. I like how you take fur or feather from other animals but with the poodle you just grab the whole dog. The keyboard control is a bit slippery but it works better with the thumbstick.

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

EMERGENCE by ccollider 2024-10-09T01:37:43Z

Burburdurburdur indeed. A bit confused what the objective is but I like the atmosphere. I caught the idea that some sort of Lovecraftian creature is going to emerge from the hole before reading the description

We Little Three by Prismapunch 2024-10-09T03:01:18Z

I like the art style and mood. Objectives are easy to understand. The puzzles are a bit easy though cause there's not that many options

@p-r nah I literally recorded that in my closet by rubbing my coats lol. Yeah I should've made the music slower. I'm considering adding more difficulty levels for the post mortem version.
