Got confused at first by the description of the game haha, really nice entry! It was difficult to quit
Interesting and creative take on the theme. I love it!
The ballgame got me haha. Really great game and nice art! I couldnt bring it over me to quit. So I guess the bitbuddy will stay around until I shut down the PC :P
Try promo code "DUMBIN NOOOOOO" to unsuccessfully communicate your feelings to a pile of bones.
Extremely clever virtual pet. Lots of clever dialogue surrounding what actions you take, even outside the game window. Great art and animation, very expressive in the BitBuddy. We went on a journey together. I'll pay the premium price to get Dumbin back. I'll do anything!
Well...
Good take on the theme, art, and audio were well done. The mood was unsettling. A classic Daniel Mullins game!
PROMOCODE: "UNKILLABLE", in hopes to revive a dead buddy :(
I will never quit this game
I've recently played Inscryption so I knew where I was going when I launched this game hahahaha. As always, Daniel has this unique meta-style which catch me every time. Great game :)
NOOOOOOOOO! T_T Well, at least I still can give food and hat to this poor squeleton, and give it a ride on the sea to contain my sorrow… Very well done, it was fun!
I'm... I'm a murderer...
Super funny and charming, its a really witty and novel way to address the concept. I think its pretty interesting to make a game that messes with the player. it brings back PTSD from playing Tamagotchi as a kid
That was a bit too much existential dread for my taste of games! I usually like my games shooting people and stuff you know.
But seriously this is great, I enjoyed having this little buddy around. He was gone too soon!
Definitely one of the most interesting takes on the theme I've seen so far!
My finger hurts from giving buddy so much food, hope he enjoyed it! :) A cool take on the theme and a very interesting concept that I think playfully mixes existential dread and the good old virtual pet experience.

I can't tell if he's more worried about why I'm doing this or dying. Great work, definitely one of my favorite compos
Amazing take on the theme with great dialogue and art. I don't want to relaunch and we can pretend I didn't kill him :) schrodinger's BitBuddy
I think the concept is a killer (get it?) and I really like the idea of a meta commentary on the Tamagotchi genre of game. Perhaps adding a few more totally pointless tasks would make the game a bit more enjoyable, or less "enjoyable" depending on how you look at it....
I must say, though, that guilt tripping players into keeping this game open is genius! And the little character's death is definitely inevitable!
Overall, great work!
So stoked to be a part of the same Game Jam as Mullins. This was a trip to play through and I've safely tucked game window into the corner of my monitor. I'm very curious to see what my Bit Buddy will be up to tomorrow. Great work, per usual.
Crashed the game by spawning food and now he is mere bones :(
10/10, absolutely devastating
Now I have crippling depression
Not often an LD game gives me a hearty chuckle, but when I relaunched after quitting... great stuff!
Haha very unique entry! I really enjoyed this one. Cool take on the theme and very different than others I played. Really like the characters and simple interactions that are expanded on. Great job!
Wow, what a creative game. I accidentally closed the window and now I'm sad, I didn't expect him to actually die! ;_;
Well, I heard it talking while I was looking away, closed the game and reopened it to see what dialogue I'd missed, and... well, that was the game. Too bad for me I guess :(
Love the meta aspect, but with I knew how to restart haha.
Interesting take on moral dilemmas and existentialism.
As usual, your games are always amazing. I loved this take on the theme. I don't know where you find your ideas but it's always uniquely weird and enjoyable. Really great work.
Such a cool take, and I love how many things you managed to fit in to the game. Fantastic stuff!
LOVED every second of my experience with MY FREE BitBuddy™ KOODY! Such a polite fellow, introducing itself to me! Didn't even need to come up with a name myself, how handy! Just what I'm looking for in a virtual pet, low maintenance and SUPER cute! You'll never want to quit once you start!
Great job with the game. It was a very cool take on the theme. I feel like it being a short jam game actually added to the experience since you exhaust pretty much everything you can do pretty quickly and are just left with the choice of leaving it open or not. I felt bad when I ended up spawning too much food and game closed leaving just a pile of bones. Rip Lowybin.
Nice implementation of this idea! I really pitied the character, and opening the game a second time, I was quite sad. :O
Tried to leave it open in the background but didn't go as planned... Great submission! genuinely thought this was an add when I saw it :')
how do i play on chromebook?
First saw this on a gaming channel and heard "this is a jam game", and was like "wait is it LD50???" It's cool that you managed to do so much in 48 hours. I clicked on "quit" on vacation assuming it meant "quit vacation" and my buddy just died... It's sad that I can't retry without hacking.
That was actually kinda sad and dark... Great entry though!
Existentially horrifying in a way that makes me wish I'd never played, but also glad I did! So, everything I'd expect from Daniel Mullins. The aesthetic is perfect, and it's really making me question my own morals despite being so short and small. If this becomes a full game like Inscryption did, I'll be early in line to pick it up!
Neeber is currently minimized, I don't have the heart to pull the plug yet. He'll probably stay there until the next time my computer misbehaves and I have to restart it. But should I have just done it on holiday? He said he'd be happy with that. Is it better to allow him to stay alive longer, even if nothing else happens? Is a longer, boring life better than a shorter, happy one? Why am I so agonized over this knowing that it's not real? He's not really alive. All that happens when he "dies" is I can no longer interact with him and he looks different. Everything he said was written and programmed by a person. Neeber is a thing. He's not alive, so he can't die. And yet the window is still open.
Update: I just right clicked > closed application. Didn't want to look at him when I did it. Didn't want him to know it was coming. Haven't opened it again and probably won't. Goodnight, Neeber. I'm sorry.
This game made me feel guilty. Probably the most unique take on the theme I've seen so far. Fantastic entry!
my soul is crushed, i must go cry, this was alot. <3
There's a few meta dont-quit-the-game entries but this is the best one. Didn't realize stuff inscyption started out as LD entries, excited to see how you use unity
how can you be so cruel

Had a power outage which finally ended my buddy's run, but I like to think I gave it a fulfilling life. I hope I was a good friend :'(
Definitely think you're onto something here, but not sure what the solution would be to making a game like this work for folks who just accidentally close it out for one reason or another before becoming invested in the story or its character(s). The whole "actually exiting the program kills your buddy" idea is great, but wonder if an in-game "click the quit button to kill your buddy" would work better in practice. Super curious about your thought process when making this though!
Interesting as always, great work!
Poor buddy, doomed to die... But at least he has a cool hat!
When I first saw the theme of "delaying the inevitable" I immediately thought that the best twist would be to make the player the inevitable and the game has to delay them. But I could not find a game mechanic that would work with the idea... Then I played BitBuddy and it is exactly the twist I wanted - way better executed than I could even imagine!
I was at your GDC talk recently and wondered if you'd be doing LD this year. Excellent Compo entry! The writing for the buddy was really enjoyable, I found myself doing a Morty-adjacent voice for him in my head the whole time. Gets big points for originality and this is one of the few games that made me "feel" the theme in an interesting way, well done!
I felt remorse.
I felt distain over my own actions.
What have i done ?????? D:

A really tough game to "play" (and rate), and delivered in true Daniel Mullins style. It was a very interesting and creative take on the theme and I suffered quite a bit playing it yesterday in the finale of my let's play series: https://youtube.com/watch?v=uyXJf5sh2hE PS: Judging from the comments, I was probably a bit too hasty with quitting (but yeah, can't wait forever on stream...), very interesting to see there's more content to it.
Yeah this is definitely fitting with the theme! A very creative take on a familiar toy.
The promo code prompt seems to break if you alt-tab/switch window focus. Had to use another container to "revive" the tamagotchi
The character building was excellent - that guy really had personality, and sold me on him being conscious. Also, Black Mirror vibes. It's the little things too, like eye animations, different expressions and the general hide-the-pain-kalwen look. I'm wondering about other promo codes though, and half expected its name to be one. Excellent!
I think like in any other game, it's just the feeling of getting a reward that makes people addicted to games. In real life, there aren't that many opportunities to be rewarded. In games, it's basically the thing you are playing for. Everyone wants to stand last in [poppy playtime](https://poppyplaygame.io/) and I must say it's very rewarding when you're the one last standing. Though what most people don't know is that the majority of the people they play with are just bots.
