LD44 — Your life is currency

See:NoMore by Criobite 2019-05-18T19:19:21Z

I'm kind of blown away, this is incredible! The puzzles were really fun, just challenging enough to keep me interested. You did an excellent job with the fake OS, very believable! I also really liked that none of the different placeable things had descriptions, so you had to figure them out yourself. As for improvements, obviously some music would go a long way towards the atmosphere, and I'd love to see it get longer with harder and harder puzzles. Also, it would be nice to be able to just click on the address instead of having to copy and paste it or type it in yourself. But really, those are minor issues and you did a fantastic job, especially on a short timeframe!

Life Business by jk5000 2019-05-18T21:55:07Z

I played a few times but never made it past week 7. But I still kept playing! Strangely addictive, and the feedback of having houses light up if they'll buy the product was such a good mechanic. It could use a little balancing with expenses, or maybe I'm just really bad at it. The voiceover was a nice touch, and the music was thematic if repetitive. Definitely fun to play!

A Life's Work by glimaleite 2019-05-19T00:38:37Z

What a lovely little game! The art is beautiful, and the minigames well done. My only real critiques are that it could use some music (maybe something soft with a piano?) and that it's a tiny bit awkward using W/S, and something like A/S would be a bit more intuitive. But really, excellent job, especially in such a short amount of time! It's hard to create a poignant experience in just a few minutes of playtime, but you really succeeded at getting those emotions!

Tecuhtliztacuhxochitl's Sacrifice Simulator by almost 2019-05-19T00:12:16Z

I had tons of fun! It took me a little while to understand how to play, but I ended up going to completion. I would've liked a "game won" screen instead of the game just continuing. At some points, it felt too fast-paced, with two or three events going on at once and not enough time to plan, but that might be because I didn't see the pause button. The music tended to be repetitive but fit the setting nicely. A very enjoyable game, and impressive for something made during a jam!

Jailocorp by jaywoody 2019-05-18T18:38:20Z

Overall, I really enjoyed it! It was definitely very hard, but that just meant that it felt great when I finally figured something out. I managed to solve three puzzles, the two with the colored buttons and the chess one, but I have absolutely no idea how to do the switches. I only played the compo version, so I'm not sure if you already made these changes, but I would have liked the music to loop better and for walking to be a little faster. The overall mood was great, and I did like the music and especially the ticking sound every minute, it really emphasized the time constraint. I think maybe a little more time, or a few more hints, would really make a big difference.

Jailocorp by jaywoody 2019-05-18T19:22:07Z

@jaywoody For the music, I would have preferred a perfect loop instead of the silence and starting over. It's a really minor issue, though. The music itself is great, so it's better to leave it as-is than to replace it with something seamless, but having a second or two of silence was a bit distracting for me.

Watt Balance by Coda Highland 2019-05-19T01:05:35Z

I loved it! Yes, the recharge felt slow and it would really benefit from a map, but it's still an amazing game, especially for such a short development time! I was only able to find one extra battery and one power station, but I absolutely plan on coming back when I have more time, especially if you've got an updated version. The art style is delightful, I especially love the way the enemies look when they go around corners. And the background music fits the atmosphere so well! I'm also very impressed by the movement, it just feels right in a way that's hard to describe and to achieve. Fantastic job all around!

Bruisness, Business that Packs a Punch by nate_wec 2019-05-19T00:32:27Z

The platforming was pretty good! I especially liked the small platforms leading from the roof back towards the office. The animations are impressive for something done so quickly, and the whole thing had this great bounciness to it. I do wish that there was a different screen when hitting the end, though. The way it is now, it seems more like a loss screen. Unless there's a "not enough" and an "enough" ending? I also had a bit of an issue with the debt cannons, most of the time it seemed like I was being hit with their blasts but not taking any debt. It's definitely a nice, quirky game that I'd play again if it was expanded with more area.

Blood Bound by Texou31 2019-05-19T18:57:05Z

It took me a long time to figure out how to play, probably because I haven't really played card games like this before. I like the concept, I just wish it was a little more intuitive. On my screen, the cards and enemy were very small, so I had a hard time reading their stats and telling what each number meant. I think if you added a tutorial level and scaling difficulty, as well as increasing the size of the UI, it would be a really solid game in the lines of Slay the Spire.

Special Steak by Nalozyc Shade 2019-05-19T16:05:35Z

I agree that the time between orders was a bit much. The UI was also off for me - playing it in windowed mode, the news went off the sides of the screen so I couldn't read all of it, and the time and money were both too small to easily read. Also, I think it might have helped to have the values of each meal, especially the steaks, so you know how to prioritize for money. And it needs feedback on the spicing of the steak, because I was never sure if it had registered what I'd tried to put on. But aside from those, it's a great game! I loved the humor of it, and the background felt like a grubby cannibal kitchen for sure.

A Life At Stake by JustMars 2019-05-19T16:18:27Z

Great job! I kept getting arrested for breaking gym equipment, so I gave up and became a gambler and serial dater. I assume you can get arrested for dating, gambling, and/or drinking but I didn't run into any of that. I loved the humor, especially the voice acting! I'm very impressed that this was done in such a short time, especially the character customization! I do wish it was a little less random, like maybe there's a way to tell if someone's going to be down to date or not, but overall it was definitely a fun game!

Rent for Life by Iferit 2019-05-20T00:00:10Z

The art style is wonderful, especially the fire effects! It's a good concept, but I wish each level was a bit more varied instead of just doing the same thing repeatedly. I also had the issue with 10/10 being a loss, and found the UI too small. Especially on the main menu - the buttons wound up in the bottom corner and blended into the background, so it took me ages to figure out how to start the game! It's not quite balanced in terms of time or amount of people, but it's still an enjoyable game.

Trading Lives by meskaline 2019-05-19T18:43:21Z

Overall, a nice experience. I didn't care for the background music, but I did like the art. I had a really hard time judging distance to other platforms and had to jump way more than I probably should have because I couldn't tell if I'd be able to land on the next platform. Still, it's an enjoyable game and a good concept.

NEOLITE by Extrone 2019-05-18T21:27:20Z

I really liked the neon aesthetics! It was pretty fun. It would have been nice to have a little better enemy AI, however. Most levels, either I was immediately swarmed from all sides and killed, or I just ended up walking backwards with a line of enemies following that I could take out pretty easily. I also think the prices on the upgrades were maybe a bit high, and a level select screen where you could replay certain waves - or having the waves generated algorithmically so they're infinite - would add a reason to keep coming back. It functions really well as a concept demo, I'd love to see you return to it and build it out a bit more!

BattleType by Sebity 2019-05-18T19:01:35Z

It's been a while since I've played a typing game, so that was a nice surprise. I had some issues with the spells spawning above the play area so I couldn't see them, and I didn't realize you could move the portal yourself until most of the way through the game, so it would have been nice if that was explained on like a controls screen or something. I also had some issues with too many enemies spawning without spells, so I couldn't summon any fighters to defend from. And I would suggest making the spells and fighter names not case-sensitive to type. But it fits the theme and is a pretty unusual genre, so good job!

Life Is Not Currency by gamebuilder 2019-05-19T00:21:25Z

A nice, short experience. The "level complete" sound was a little grating to me, and sometimes it didn't play. I also missed out on any music, being in chrome. It's a really interesting concept, and I like the way the letters and currency symbols mix together. The day/night cycle was also really well done. However, I found it a little easy. Once I got one or two letters, I was able to easily guess the others to fill in the word without actually seeing all the letters in the game.

CorrupSoul by Odlog Oglog 2019-05-18T22:05:14Z

I had a hard time seeing the UI bars, as others have mentioned, but it's a good concept. I could only attack to my left, though, which made it really difficult to play. The window is also really small, so being able to resize it in a settings menu would have helped. The music was a little loud for my taste, but fit the retro style. If you're able to fix collisions with the AI and add in the extra feedback you've mentioned here, it'll be a great little game!

Battery Life by Attala 2019-05-18T22:26:46Z

A little easy for my taste (I managed the last level without doing anything to the full battery) but still really enjoyable to play! The graphics were really nice, especially with the draining/filling power. I had the enemies detect me through walls once or twice, and once lost a level because an enemy came and attacked me while I was stuck being filled up and couldn't move. I didn't love the camera tilt when moving, and the sound the door makes while opening gave me a headache, but the game mechanics are really solid and I'd definitely be interested in playing a longer version!

Chickenarchy by Thomas_Bringer 2019-05-19T15:12:59Z

I had a ton of fun with it! The first time I played, I immediately went off in a random direction and totally missed the knight at the beginning, so it might be nice if he's on screen as soon as you start. I also had a bit of an issue with the farmer. I had about 40 chickens with me, and he took them all! At that point, I couldn't find enough eggs to build up my chicken stock again, so I wasn't able to complete the whole game. But it's a wonderful concept, with a ton of humor and fun to it. I agree that the dialog is a big of an issue, and I definitely would have liked a clucking sound when hatching a new egg and maybe the music loop to be longer, but it's already pretty great and just needs a little bit of polish. Great job!

Martian Scrapper by Aileron 2019-05-19T00:47:39Z

The game window is really, really small on my monitor, so it's a bit hard to play. That being said, it's got a good core loop. While the fast cars are hard to hit before they get too close and the tiny... people? shoot too well to dodge their shots, it's got a ton of potential. With music, maybe some more tank types, and a few balance updates, it could be a really fun game! Right now, it's a good demo for a core mechanic, and I'd love to play it again if you get the chance to revisit it and beef it up a little.

Maintenance Costs by Rolly 2019-05-18T22:44:27Z

On the level where it suggests you kill one of your robots, my second bot walked straight past the flag and into the pit, and then the test was stuck in running with no options available for me. Other than that, it's very impressive! Especially with the short time it was made in. Definitely very hard - I needed to use the walkthrough for level 3, but once I understood how to do that I was fine until I ran into that glitch. Definitely feels like a complete game! I really enjoyed it, and would've tried to complete the whole thing if I could've.

The Last Bank by DKMK100 2019-05-18T21:13:42Z

I haven't played many 3D platformers, but I more or less agree with the other suggestions. I thought the A/D turning was fine, but I really had no idea what was going on. I wasn't really sure why I needed guards, and when I bought some they just stood still. Also, the UI was almost impossible to see, both with the size and the color of the text. You mentioned you're new to this, so I'd suggest looking into sizing UI elements by percent instead of absolutely, and also using "best fit" on the text size, because I've got a large monitor and couldn't read the text at all. At night, the dark red really blended into the black sky, so I couldn't read anything even squinting. Upping the move speed would also definitely make it feel better. Still, it looked like an impressively large world to be made in just a weekend, especially as a beginner! You could definitely expand on it to make something really fun.

Blood Money by kristinamay 2019-05-19T15:42:43Z

Very short, but a great start! I had to go through and play it multiple times to get as many endings as I could, so I definitely liked it. The dark humor is also something that I really enjoyed. I absolutely would play a full game of this. I agree about reprinting the options at the bottom of the screen, but other than that I can't think of anything to change.

Debtors' Arena by AceArcher 2019-05-18T19:59:11Z

Well, looking at all the feedback I've gotten, I need to speed up the animations and let the player move, turn, and/or cancel attacks! Animations are definitely not my forte, and this was my first time doing something like this, so I'm really grateful to learn what I should do differently next time!

Debtors' Arena by AceArcher 2019-05-18T21:41:36Z

@almost Thanks for the detailed feedback! I used the wait for attack then strike from behind technique when testing, but it makes sense that not everyone would realize that right away. I've definitely heard that the first few fights are too hard. The enemy has the same attack strength, but because they do damage using the "OnTriggerEnter" function, if you back away a bit and then come back forward, they damage you a second time. And even if you aren't moving, I think the animation may still cause that effect. I didn't have any time to fix that during the jam, but it's definitely something I'm aware of for next time I make a similar game. The music was the very last thing I did, I only had about 45 minutes to pick it out and put it in the game so I just took what I could. I didn't even realize that it was alternating ears. I'll try and be on the lookout for that sort of thing in future games. You've definitely given me a lot to consider, thank you!

Debtors' Arena by AceArcher 2019-05-19T16:21:49Z

@ryunos I appreciate the honesty, I definitely should've gotten other people to playtest it for me before the deadline. I didn't have much trouble playing it, but then again I'm the dev, so I definitely need to try and keep other people in mind next time. I realized after submitting it that the unarmed fights are just too hard, but at that point it was too late to fix anything. I'll definitely try and focus on balance for my next jam!

Debtors' Arena by AceArcher 2019-05-21T15:33:34Z

@pequenodev Thanks for the feedback and encouragement! I definitely learned that fighting games are hard, especially in a few days! I've heard from a lot of people that the animations are slow and more feedback would help, so those are for sure things I'm going to keep in mind for the next game I make. Animations aren't my forte, especially when using them for attack like this, so I'll probably either use pre-made assets or a different attack system next time unless I spend a lot of time practicing. I appreciate the tips!

Life Cycle by zubspace 2019-05-18T19:55:18Z

A fun little platformer! Reminds me of the stuff I used to play as a kid, so definitely has that added nostalgia bonus. And certainly difficult! I did have a small issue on the first level of the second set - a corpse flying off the lower conveyor belt knocked me though a wall and I got stuck falling endlessly into the void. I also would have liked some more levels that actually make use of your corpses. And music would have been a good addition as well. The jump sound effect gets annoying after a little while, so having music behind it would help with that. But still, good job doing this in just one weekend!

Withdrawal by glibjibb 2019-05-19T23:43:57Z

It's a good base for expansion. The accuracy is pretty annoying, and I found that the enemies have too far a detection range. A lot of my gameplay was shooting offscreen at where I thought the bullets were coming at me from. It's also very easy to clip through the boundary wall. But the shooting is solid, and the enemy types are good, if a little overwhelming. I also really liked the art, because using Unity's default 3D shapes to create models is exactly how I do mine as well. As a fellow first-timer (although I did Jam, not Compo), I'm very impressed!

Demon Apprentice by c0d3d 2019-05-19T15:26:54Z

I don't want to repeat what's already been said, but I do agree about the teleporting, lack of background and wave clear text, and key binding for upgrades. I actually hadn't noticed that it was the shields reversing my scythe, I thought it was a glitch, so definitely a sound or particle system on that would have helped. That being said, it's a solid little game! I definitely had fun spinning wildly. Good job for 48 hours!

Stars Keeper by zuick 2019-05-18T18:49:06Z

The graphics are amazing, especially considering the limited timeframe. I wish the controls would have been mentioned in-game, and an option to control with WASD/left mouse would have been really nice. I struggled a bit with the ship controls, I think the ability to strafe instead of using tank controls would have made it feel more fluid. As is, the ship feels sluggish and maneuvering is difficult, especially when being shot at. It could have also used an indication of how much damage the player has taken. Still, it's a very nice little game with a great ambiance that just needs a little polishing.

Suck'd by Japayne 2019-05-19T23:11:28Z

I love the art! It's a good starting place, and I think if you manage to add in the bartering later it would feel more complete. I do wish that more slimes would spawn occasionally, as the first time I played I took too much damage and couldn't win. Also, when you first start or restart, the blood bar appears full until you suck, and then it jumps down to what it should be. I hope you do keep working on it, this is really good so far!

HeartsLost by HyperSquid Studios 2019-05-20T00:09:02Z

I like the concept behind it, it just needs a little polish. With the camera so close and the terrain so large, it's really hard to actually find anything at all. And having to shoot twice at a minimum to earn one heart back means you end up losing pretty quickly. The art and animations are nice, though, and just a few balance tweaks will really make it shine.

NecroBlood by Little Valhalla 2019-05-18T21:36:51Z

Absolutely gorgeous! I agree that it's not perfectly balanced. I wound up losing on wave 11, when it generated a few dozen warriors that I had absolutely no hope of defending against. The enemy generation might still need a bit of tweaking. Other than that, music will go a long way towards making it feel finished. The core mechanic is great already, and will only improve if more units get added. I'm definitely excited to see where you go from here!

Face to Death by pequenodev 2019-05-19T15:52:02Z

Quite enjoyable! I found myself playing multiple times to try and get as far as I could. At times, it felt a little slow, so I'd like to see a bit of speed increase the longer you go on. I also felt like humans spawned really infrequently, so I didn't have many reasons to use rage mode. I do like the overall feel of the game, between the art and music. The sound effects were also really well chosen. Great job!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Abide the Loop by Ethan Alexander Shulman 2020-10-21T20:44:33Z

The idea is solid, but I think having such a short music loop is really hindering you. Obviously in a jam - especially compo! - you don't have time to do a full song, but something with even a tiny bit of progression would've been nice. I wasn't sure exactly what timing is accurate - a short demo or colors or lights or something would've made a huge difference - and the only time I was able to go longer than 10 seconds was when I ignored the music entirely and just pressed the buttons in sequence. The fact that you used your own engine for it is extremely impressive, though!

Lone Racer by gwheel 2020-10-21T20:31:42Z

I liked it! The art style is fun (although the sudden flipping of sprites is a bit distracting) and being so zoomed out makes it easier to plan the turns. The car is a bit hard to handle, but I think that balanced out the difficulty level a bit. I'd say aside from the obvious (audio, cool particle effects), a drift mechanic might also add a bit more to the experience, but it's a very solid base that I hope you come back to and flesh out!

Aristotel: The Cycle of Energy by victorcrafty 2020-10-21T21:10:30Z

I found myself having a lot of fun! The graphics are cute and the sound effects match them, although it got a little overwhelming when there were a lot of enemies at once. There's definitely a pretty huge leap from wave 2 to 3, but I enjoyed the hectic feeling! As far as criticism, I agree that it doesn't fit the theme as closely as a lot of other games, and I would have liked it to go on for a little longer. It felt like as long as you survived round 3 you'd definitely win. However, overall it's a great game!

Space Loop Kit by Marin0104 2020-10-21T20:11:45Z

It's an interesting idea, but there needs to be more in-game instructions. I had to come back here and read to know what I was supposed to be doing. Also, if you're going to be using the mouse, it's really hard for right-handed people to use arrows + mouse, so I'd suggest having WASD also work. It's also extremely difficult, I feel like the player should have more health or there should be fewer enemies or something. I was never able to play for more than maybe 20 seconds at a time. I liked the concept, and it's impressive for such a short timeframe, but it definitely needs a bit more balancing. The pixel art is great, though!

Core Defender by Hadi Danial 2020-10-21T21:17:15Z

After coming here and finding out that you have to switch weapons first, I was finally able to get it to work. I definitely like your idea of going around loops. However, it was a bit hard for me to figure out which key to press to move in which direction, since sometimes moving clockwise means moving from right to left even though you're holding the left key. Also, I expected that when I swapped loops I'd be moving to a point close to the loop I was already at, and that not happening was disorienting. With some polishing, however, it could be a really solid game, and it's definitely a great fit for the theme.

Super Jump Guy by F1Krazy 2020-10-21T21:45:26Z

That was a ton of fun! I definitely second the request for an expansion, I'd totally play that. A fun platformer with a nice little message to be sure. It feels so polished for a jam game! Excellent work.

minotorus by AceArcher 2020-10-06T19:51:46Z

Yeah, I noticed that as soon as I tested out the web build but by then it was already submitted. It's completely fine in the windows build, I have no idea why the camera is so much faster and more erratic in WebGL! That's definitely something I need to do more research into. Thanks for trying it, at least!

minotorus by AceArcher 2020-10-07T17:37:04Z

Huh, that's really weird. I'm using Input.GetKeyDown(KeyCode.Mouse0). The windows download should be on the same itch page. I really appreciate you trying it a second time, and I'm sorry it's so buggy! I guess I need to reserve some time at the end of the next jam for bugtesting!

minotorus by AceArcher 2020-10-21T21:20:41Z

Thank you for the feedback! It's frustrating that the mouse sensitivity has been such an issue, but at least now I know that I need to focus on that for my next jam. Regarding your points @f1krazy, the candle itself is the timer bar. I've heard from other people that because it's so close to the player's life bar, the blue bar looks like it's an indication of the candle instead. Now, if the candle remained the same size the whole time, that's an actual bug, and one I'll take a look at. I really enjoyed making the game, and so I probably will go back and polish it up more after the ratings are out.

Oh my Life by KarenFarah 2020-10-21T21:53:24Z

I really liked the switch between different art styles, it's a really cool thing to do. The controls felt a bit slippery, like sometimes I slid around a bit. Reminds me a bit of a bleaker version of the game Every Day The Same Dream. Didn't care for the ending personally, though - it sort of invalidated the whole mood. Still, it's a good game, especially considering some of your team were doing this for the first time!

The LoopHole by morcado 2020-10-21T20:23:13Z

I liked your idea, but the physics are really rough. Sliding around makes the game hard to play, and the jumps feel very slow and floaty. When you stand on a moving platform as it goes down, you wind up floating above it and falling down to it, which makes it basically impossible to jump. Physics are really hard to get right, especially so quickly, and I think you did a pretty good job for a game jam.

Bloop by Harmadillo 2020-10-17T20:09:02Z

Overall, I think it's a solid idea, but it's a bit hard to play. The UI doesn't scale, so it's almost too small to read on my screen, which makes it hard to check my remaining turns. The camera angle occasionally made it a bit difficult to select a square, so changing that or giving the player the ability to rotate the camera would also be a small quality of life improvement. I also think that binding "deselect piece" to escape wasn't the best idea, since escape also un-fullscreens in a web player. However, the concept is really cool, and I did enjoy trying to figure out the puzzles.

Another Left Turn by Lebrra 2020-10-21T20:59:44Z

It's pretty fun! It was a bit hard to see a lot of things - often I had a hard time with finding the door to the next room, I also couldn't really tell when I hit an enemy, and I had no clue how much health I had left until I died. However, I thought it was really cool the first time I made it all the way back to the starting room and saw the bodies of people I'd already taken down! Also, loved the whiteboards, especially the whale. I look forward to seeing your polished post-jam version!

Time is Ticking by RicardoEPRodrigues 2020-10-17T20:22:54Z

I second what other people have said about the jumps being off. That made the movement feel sluggish and made me often miss jumps that would then require me to redo my entire block setup. Aside from that and the lack of music, I enjoyed it. It's a good concept, and it's fun trying to set up your blocks. Maybe telling the player that there's a limit of 5 or letting them choose which block will be destroyed would help reduce setup time.

Mystery Loop by Aduro 2020-10-17T20:31:41Z

I had a really hard time figuring this one out, especially since the controls aren't shown in game. Being told to begin with "shoot this wall" but not *why* to shoot that wall left me really confused. I liked the atmosphere, but I think the shadows were too dark and made it hard to see what was going on. Even after reading this page and playing a few levels, I still honestly don't know what I was doing. I just jumped to the top of each level and then it would go completely dark and I'd start over with a slightly bigger level. With so few bullets, it was hard to balance shooting enemies and not dying with finding a way to escape. I feel like the game would have been better emphasizing the investigation and minimizing the combat.

Existentially horrifying in a way that makes me wish I'd never played, but also glad I did! So, everything I'd expect from Daniel Mullins. The aesthetic is perfect, and it's really making me question my own morals despite being so short and small. If this becomes a full game like Inscryption did, I'll be early in line to pick it up!

Neeber is currently minimized, I don't have the heart to pull the plug yet. He'll probably stay there until the next time my computer misbehaves and I have to restart it. But should I have just done it on holiday? He said he'd be happy with that. Is it better to allow him to stay alive longer, even if nothing else happens? Is a longer, boring life better than a shorter, happy one? Why am I so agonized over this knowing that it's not real? He's not really alive. All that happens when he "dies" is I can no longer interact with him and he looks different. Everything he said was written and programmed by a person. Neeber is a thing. He's not alive, so he can't die. And yet the window is still open.

Update: I just right clicked > closed application. Didn't want to look at him when I did it. Didn't want him to know it was coming. Haven't opened it again and probably won't. Goodnight, Neeber. I'm sorry.

The Pit by dikkop 2022-04-12T22:00:44Z

A fun little game, but I don't think I was able to fully experience it in single player. But wow, reading other comments and learning that you can throw things at villagers, and extrapolating that to "if I can kill someone by throwing stuff at them... and I can pick up and throw corpses... Can I kill someone with a previous victim?" A+ sense of humor!

Really, my only issues are the lack of a game over screen (I had to sit there staring at my corpse as the meter ran out repeatedly) and not knowing when I'd draw aggro from villagers. A few times, it felt like they just turned on me for no reason. Then again, I *did* see someone drop dead for seemingly no reason right in front of the pit, and it's possible I might've accidentally done that while trying to throw something in? If so, that's even funnier, the idea of a wizard pelting someone in the back of the head with an apple so hard they die and then being shocked when people are upset with him!

The Inevitable Relay by Papaver 2022-04-18T22:06:42Z

Made it 3518m! Overall a fun game! It was a bit hard switching when all the people bunched up and I couldn't tell which health bar belonged to who, especially since standing still also depletes energy and so I couldn't afford to pause and sort out the numbers. But those are really minor things! I think the concept is fun and the sound effects are a really nice touch.

Please Don't Date Me by Shess 2022-04-12T18:57:54Z

Wow, this was one of my initial ideas, but I couldn't figure out how to implement it at all! I was really impressed with the art, it's got to be hard to balance detail with keeping the pixel style. It's a simple game and it's over quickly, but I honestly liked that because it was a no-brainer to just keep trying until I got all the endings. It was a lot of fun picking up on the hints to find that secret one! I did have a bit of trouble with the controls - it took me a bit to realize I had to hit the buttons on the top and bottom and not just click the option I wanted, and it felt like the buttons moved the options in the opposite direction to what I would've expected. Still, it's overall a very fun little game, and I definitely enjoyed finding the endings!

Crab Battle by cottontshirtz 2022-04-12T20:38:34Z

Originally, I couldn't play because of lag on Chrome. After trying it in Firefox, as suggested, it worked great! And I'm very glad it did! What a delightful little game. I never quite got the hang of throwing crabs at other crabs, but it was just a fun time. The audio is absolutely spot-on and made me giggle every time I hit a crab. I'm more than happy to succumb to my fate and accept that it is now time for crab.

GO GA by unless games 2022-04-18T20:45:12Z

I agree with the other commenters that the art style and whistling noise were well done! I think that if the cracks formed where the creatures were standing rather than it just being random, it would give a lot more depth and strategy in how to move. I also found that there were a few occasions where one of the creatures would sometimes stop moving after a whistle instead of following me like expected. Looking at the other comments and responses, it sounds like that might've been intended, but if so that should be explained somewhere because I assumed it was a bug.

Procrabstination by sebastianscaini 2022-04-12T23:52:52Z

I'm the kind of person who procrastinates on work on the computer by cleaning my room, so I instantly lost the first time I played. It's a delightful little clicker game, and just a fun silly concept. Crabiroth was a tough fight, but thanks to my years of Cookie Clicker I managed to take him down! Like other people have said, it was a bit too easy to click through and restart a minigame, and the unskippable intro to Crab Wars was kind of tedious, but those enhance the procrastination. Also... I'm not saying I'd read a full-length novel of The Lustacean, but I'm also not saying I wouldn't. Loved the idea, and great execution as well!

Make a Manga Series but It's a Fishing Game by MayChant 2022-04-18T22:20:36Z

It's a fun concept, I like the metaphor. I think the idea might be that you're going to end up doing poorly no matter what, right? If so, that should be communicated a bit better - maybe something like "I know I'm a terrible manga artist, but I'm going to keep going as long as I can before they realize I have no talent!" at the beginning or snippets of text between weeks saying "I can feel myself starting to run out of ideas but I just want to keep the series running until I can't anymore". Without that sort of indication, it kind of felt like I was just bad at the game instead of that being the point.

Tartarus Panic by AceArcher 2022-04-18T21:55:05Z

There are too many people to tag at once! I'm super flattered by all the feedback, especially on the art, since I don't usually think of myself as an artist! I realized the issue with balancing pretty soon after submission, but of course it was too late by then. I especially like the suggestion @papaver had about adding the games one by one. I might do a post-jam update with proper lore, steeper difficulty curve, actual audio, and a cutoff sooner than losing all 8 games, plus a fix for the issue with the boulder that @benjamin-humes found (thanks for that!).

Tartarus Panic by AceArcher 2022-04-18T21:56:06Z

@maychant - Figuring out the interaction by clicking and dragging and holding on everything and seeing what works is part of the game, so there's no mythological knowledge needed. I did really want to give some descriptions on everyone and their crimes, but just ran out of time. If you're still curious, the ones with the snakes are Otus and Ephialtes, two giant brothers who tried to overthrow Zeus and were bound with snakes instead of rope. The donkey is part of Ocnus's punishment, where he had to weave a straw rope while a donkey quickly ate away at the other end of if (his crime is unclear).

Beavers Inc. by ditam 2022-04-12T21:40:05Z

I really enjoyed this! You did a spot-on job with the vibe of really old games, it definitely would fit in with stuff like Oregon Trail. It took a little bit to figure out how to do well, but it never got frustrating. What made it easier was remembering that the theme is just "delay" the inevitable, and so I might have to ignore dams that I know are about to break because I can survive just one more turn without them. I'd absolutely come back to this with more levels, or even an endless random mode (even if there's no guarantee it's ever winnable)!

A Halting Problem by Honey Pony 2022-04-18T21:45:59Z

Overall, very enjoyable and super impressive for a jam game, let alone compo! I only had a few issues, but they've all been addressed already (saving the configuration, box contents off screen, zooming) and are pretty minor. It's been a while since I personally have played a game in this style, and I always love a good puzzle! This is the kind of thing I'd love to see expanded and fleshed out with more levels in the future, especially since it's already so polished.

3 Days At Sea by JamieOK 2022-04-12T21:02:03Z

Made it 51 days! Quiet and introspective, I really liked that there wasn't any backing music. Loved the crabs, although for me one of them was inside the boat's geometry and I could only see its name. It was a bit hard for me to interact with things, I think some manner of reticle or even just a little dot in the center would've really helped show what the cursor was over. I also agree that more interactions would be nice, especially with the rain. Overall, "fun" is probably the wrong word for a game about slowly dying alone and desperate, but it certainly was engrossing and worth a play!

Oedipus Rex by Brachistosauro 2022-04-12T22:57:55Z

Oh, I loved this! I have a fondness for Greek myth (as my own jam entries might suggest), and this sort of twisting reimagining was such a cool take! I really liked the way the text was formatted, it made me think of plays written in verse, which I suspect was intentional. The mood was so well done, and it felt natural to try again even knowing that fate is inevitable and before I realized that things change each time. And wow, that ending - I feel like I should be annoyed that it subverted the mood, but it was just too clever! Seriously, this might be my favorite entry that I've played so far, excellent work!

Mutating Escapist by Noirox 2022-04-12T22:36:35Z

Nice concept! I loved the vibe of it, the voiceover was very well done. It was a bit tricky to navigate with such limited vision, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. I can tell you put a lot of time into level design and making sure each level was beatable with any mutation. Unfortunately, the wall jump was unusable to me - having to hold the direction against the wall I was jumping off of would prevent me from reaching the opposite wall, and I'm not able to switch directions midair fast enough to make it work. It's still fully playable with the other mutations, but I'd like the opportunity to explore the levels more and see what routes you planned for that as well.

Princess: Unwed by saintchristopher777 2022-04-12T19:45:26Z

I had a hard time figuring out how to actually get any information. My initial assumption was that the suitors moved every week, so I'd have to pick one person to write only, and I was confused when I'd only get location information and nothing on his traits. I had to read other people's comments to realize that you can write everyone in a row without the suitor moving 4 times and being somewhere random. Because of that, I restarted multiple times when I thought I'd lost him and would have to keep making random guesses in the hopes that I'd get lucky and guess somewhere the singular week he was there. Once I figured more out, I was able to get rid of one suitor, but it took a while just to understand the basic premise.

If you were to keep working on this, I'd suggest adding an in-game notepad, almost like the game Clue/Cluedo, where the player can keep track of traits and location info. Just a simple series of checkboxes would do for a lot of it, and maybe some way to note down crest and alliance info. So you can figure out oh, he must be going to X kingdom next, and a letter said that he was going somewhere with Y on the crest and in Z alliance, so I can mark down X - crest has Y, part of Z. It'd also be really nice to be able to group letters by location, so you're not accidentally looking at old clues to find out the next destination. In general, I'm of the opinion that players shouldn't need to take notes outside of the game, although that's more of a personal preference.

As for glitches, I found I could still move around freely while clues were open. Also, the whole time I was playing there was a weird repetitive noise almost like flapping? It was loudest at the start and when the menu was open, but was still audible for the entire game and also seemed to change in speed/frequency with different screens and actions as well. It made it hard for me to hear the music.

I did enjoy the art, and it's a really good concept! Jams are so time-constrained it's hard to reach perfection, but I'd certainly check out an updated version with clearer controls!

Ready, uNsTeAdY, FIRE! by JovialKnoll 2022-04-12T20:32:21Z

I really liked that you didn't use the theme to mean "delay the end of the game" but incorporated that delay into the gameplay loop! I think the tension between dodging and delaying fire was well-executed, but with the length of the levels it did get a bit old by the end there, especially once I realized I could just stay in place by wiggling a tiny bit and it largely turned into a waiting game. I would also say that the colors are a bit too similar and sometimes it was a bit tricky to tell which purple I needed. I'm not sure if it would be difficult for colorblind people, but maybe having more variety in color and then additionally a pattern or shape to make sure color isn't the only indicator? Overall, it's a fun game, though!

M.A.D - Maintain A Dictatorship by Pentaworks 2022-04-12T22:16:32Z

Overall a fun game! I made it just over 400 seconds. I found it kind of hard to save up and actually get anyone other than police, but I think I was too proactive in taking down rebels as soon as they appeared instead of preparing for the future. I was able to get a unit on the edge of the capitol once where it was fighting but still healing faster than it was being damaged, which I enjoyed but might not be intended behavior. I found the audio a bit overwhelming with overlapping voice clips, but I like the idea of it. I also didn't realize where the military base was for ages, so I think it should be a bit more obvious.

DEORBITING by Benjamin Humes 2022-04-18T21:18:25Z

I do really like your concept. However, I think the execution falls a bit short. I couldn't figure out how to make the pins move properly with A/D, so I had to resort to the mouse, even though mouse controls aren't mentioned anywhere. It felt like the gravitational shifts were happening too much, so that I would go and fix one generator and then it would immediately be unfixed by the time I'd done another. Maybe a spectrum instead, where it's still good at +/- 1 or 2, so there's time to go to the other generators? Also, the scene transition animation is unnecessarily long, and having the game active and playing in the background means the player either loses time or starts moving without being able to see. Once, the animation actually got stuck and I had a bunch of thin black slivers all over the screen! I would be very interested in an updated post-jam version with some clearer instructions and bugfixes, because I do think it's a good idea!

Wonderlife by RoughSkin 2022-04-12T21:21:50Z

Oof, that hits close to home! Great satire, very pointed. I think it was a good idea to focus on polish more than length, especially with different endings. You captured the aesthetic excellently!

Solar Flare! by jSmile 2022-04-12T20:41:45Z

Wow, that's hard! I second some of the other commenters that there's just not enough time to react, especially if you get two in a row that are completely opposite each other. I also found the audio a bit too harsh, especially at the volume. It reminds me a bit of Super Hexagon, and I think with some more time for balance it could be really excellent!

Mission: Programmable by Jezzamon 2023-05-19T04:08:32Z

This is possible?! I've played a few programming games before, but I didn't know you could play one in a browser inspector! I'm genuinely blown away by how cool it is that this game even exists! It was a bit too easy for me, but I'd definitely recommend this to anyone learning programming for the first time. It's incredibly well-polished, the story is delightful, and the fact that this is a compo entry is stunning. Wow! Wonderful job!

Generated Adventure by gamescodedogs 2023-05-19T23:46:18Z

It's a super cool use of different AI tools! Unfortunately I wasn't able to finish - I also got stuck in the castle. There were a few NPCs that I couldn't click on to talk to, and the crystal behind the ghost wasn't collectible. It also felt like people were asking for different things than what they actually wanted, and like their descriptions didn't match the actual setting (like the ghost talking about the lamp being protected by an angry gnome, but it's actually sitting near a dwarf). Plus, everyone's dialog was almost identical. It would have been worth the time to supervise the AI more closely and make sure what it was saying made sense. But overall, awesome concept and a nice experience, although I wish it was beatable.

Handle With Care by emanon 2023-05-19T02:57:01Z

I've always loved physics platformers, so this was a nice treat! I had to give up on the pizza level, getting it to actually move so that I could keep up with it was too hard for me. I wish I had a better sense of the player collider and how far to either side the pizza can go on your head before it slips off. Overall, I had fun! The introduction of new mechanics was done at a very nice pace.

Idle Deliveries by justking144 2023-05-19T00:12:59Z

Reminds me a lot of the game Candy Box, which is also an idle game in ASCII art. I'm big into idle games, and I also have a soft spot for ASCII, so I really enjoyed it! I'd love to be able to see my money when I'm hiring or leveling up employees, but that's essentially my only complaint. It works so well, and watching all the little numbers move around is so satisfying. Well done!

Animaternity by Tex Killer 2023-05-19T03:48:30Z

Short and sweet! I completely didn't realize I'd have to memorize the parent clothes, but somehow got lucky and matched everyone correctly by complete chance. It was a little hard to figure out what to do at first, but after I realized what was going on it was nice and smooth. I'd like a mode where you just keep going until you give away too many wrong babies or see how many you can get in a given time, but it's a great jam entry!

USPS United Space Poostal Service by FabDynamic 2023-05-19T23:32:22Z

The retro shooter vibe is very well executed. The music is great! I agree with other commenters that it can get a bit boring and repetitive, but it runs well and it's a great base to add on more features later if you want to!

Delivery City by digital bacon 2023-05-19T23:26:30Z

I don't have much to say that hasn't already been said. I did have issues with the colliders, especially in front of the post office, but overall it works very well for a jam game. Definitely do keep working on it, it's a great base for extra features!

Delivery by dk5000p 2023-05-19T03:03:13Z

Like other people have said, it's simple, but it's got a good game loop. I would have liked obstacles other than just jumping gaps to make it a little bit more challenging, and I had a hard time seeing the timer up top. I'd love to see a post-jam update with some UI and level design polish!

Bundle Dumper: Florida Edition by cheesepencil 2023-05-19T03:25:03Z

Wow, that's hard! I have a big soft spot for pixel art and Pico-8 stuff specifically, so I was really happy to see this. It's delightfully silly and, while the keyboard controls are kind of hard to get used to, genuinely very fun to play. I'm glad that respawning and continuing are nice and fast, because I sure lost a lot of storks and babies! Great job!

Time for Lunch by zep 2023-05-18T04:30:26Z

What a delightful little game! I love the pixel graphics. I haven't seen anything like the rope mechanic before, so that was really fun! It was a little bit too difficult for me, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

Mystic Postman by interpixel 2023-05-19T03:18:12Z

It's a good proof of concept! Once I figured out what to do, I enjoyed running around. I wish the starting location was right next to a city or you started with some deliveries. I'd love to come back and play it again if you polish it up for a post-jam version!

Light My Fire by Crygos 2023-05-20T00:01:38Z

I love the art and the foley work! Unfortunately during the second level the crouch button stopped working and I had to refresh the page and start over to get it working again. The jumps felt a bit too floaty and slow, but overall it's a fun runner!

Postcat by ne_sofa 2023-05-19T02:45:55Z

The art is so cute! The intro did a good job explaining the story with just the pictures for those of us who don't speak Russian. I do wish that restarting didn't bring me all the way back to the main menu, since it's a hard game that's designed to take multiple tries to complete. I found it pretty fun overall!

Divine Messenger by ndellam 2023-05-18T04:53:05Z

It's not my kind of game, but I bet people who enjoy Jump King would really like it! I had a hard time managing the jumps, since you have to start moving before letting go of the button if you want to jump to the sides. It also felt like the jump power increased very quickly and there was no visual indication of how strong your jump will be, so it was hard to tell what would happen every time I jumped.

Slime Post by Sebhulhu 2023-05-19T23:53:56Z

Overall, it's a nice physics platformer! Like other people have mentioned, it was really wordy at first and the tombstone physics were hard to deal with, but it's well polished and the art is great. Very impressive for a first jam, especially since you did your own art and music!

Parcel Madness: The Last Delivery by Grocek 2023-05-18T04:36:20Z

It's a great idea! I didn't realize at first that the box goes towards your mouse, so I thought throwing was bugged. It's a bit hard to control between the throw direction and the player's speed, but it's an enjoyable platformer and I'd love to see you polish and balance it later!

《Deliver Rush》 by Tan90 2023-05-19T03:44:00Z

Unfortunately I also wasn't able to deliver anything. But driving around was fun, and I love the art style! You did a great job on the Persona-style menus, I could tell the inspiration right away. Game jams are hard, and even though there are some pretty big bugs I'm impressed with how well-polished it looks!

Your Delivery is Here by GinLuy 2023-05-18T04:15:36Z

The movement felt really good, which is so important for a platformer. The player speed was just right and made it nice to control. Unfortunately, as other people have mentioned, the visual effects were a bit overwhelming, especially with the rotational blur. I also had the model occasionally stretch horizontally, which sometimes clipped it into spikes. Overall a pretty fun experience, and I especially liked the art.

Before Birth by Charlieorange07 2023-05-19T03:35:01Z

I do love a good idle clicker! I wish the shop had my current coins in it so I could see what I could afford. It's a nice, simple game, perfect for a jam.

Delivery Survivor by LogicProjects 2023-05-18T04:06:58Z

Overall a nice take on Vampire Survivors. Movement felt a bit sluggish, and some instructions would've been nice, but after a few goes I managed to figure out a strategy (as someone else said, all-in on nachos).

Velocipede by Nifi 2023-05-19T04:12:51Z

I love the concept! The camera is a bit sensitive, and I couldn't always see the UI at the bottom, but it's a great idea. I think with some polish and maybe a tutorial it would be really strong!

Stork by Sam Butterworth 2023-05-18T04:45:12Z

It's a great concept! I love the art and the mood it brings. There were a few times where it felt like my choices didn't matter (like choosing to check the cargo and instead just being told nah, it's probably fine and not actually checking), but overall it's an engaging narrative.
