I picked this game to gice some rating because of great visuals and i didnt miss! But you guys got some bugs making character walking back and forward without any chance to interact that old man! Fix it please!

hora-timer 2023-05-01 23:20

I don't understand how to play which controller do you use?

obe-dot 2023-05-03 16:56

Nice idea for a game! I like the artwork.

qwillak 2023-05-03 17:01

Beautiful idea^^ Awesome using of neuronets!

I don't understand what should i do after meeting a thief, but it was intresting experience. I love this level design and player direction with using effects👍

Great job!

Nice idea of how to use AI to make a game and well executed. I've run into some issues where I'm stuck with no way out after finishing the graveyard and entering the castle, there was no way out and I was still supposed to get something I haven't seen before. Also the graveyard ghost and the market guy had no set position when I clicked on them and the teleporter from the graveyard to the market threw me to the middle of the city with a long way back to where I was. The teleporter also didn't activate when they were in the same scene as the character that unlocked them and the graveyard ghost said something of a crystal but he accepted the chest in the city and let me continue.

Music choice was very fitting (and not too loud, which is a huge plus) and did add to the mood. The controls were obvious enough, if you've used a point and click before, I'd say.

Well done!

Very nice implementation. Amazing how you made the different ML work together and managed to create a congruent game.

I felt like an inventory would have been great as many of the object are quite obvious before you need them, and then you can not interact with them but instead need to backtrack later.

amango 2023-05-04 23:11

Interesting approach to making a game. Mechanically, I'll give a +1 to the inventory instead of backtracking, and I would've enjoyed an increase to the movement speed. Great cohesive aesthetic from Midjourney.

yuriscat 2023-05-06 06:16

Great use of neural network-generated images! You managed to make them consistent in style, and it's a good game!

rocktavious 2023-05-06 21:09

Its amazing what AI can create with a little help from a human (strike that reverse it). The world is forever changed.

paul-maxime 2023-05-07 12:52

The graphics are amazing! However, I'm definitely not convinced by Aiva or ChatGPT. The story was average at best and the music very repetitive.

There are some small issues related to movement or dialogs, but that's expected in a gamejam, no worries! However, I had no idea what to do once we reach the _Powerful Sorcerer_ in the _Castle_. The only portal is "Home" and it's disabled.

david-mason 2023-05-13 09:50

nice visuals, puzzles could have been more interesting

gamescodedogs 2023-05-13 11:06

Thanks for the feedback folks, much appreciated.

@david-mason totally agreed, looking forward finding a way to generate more complex puzzles with chatGPT. Will keep this page updated.

@paul-maxime I am not happy with Aiva for now, will try to find an alternative (or master Aiva) right after fixing animations.

@obittner @amango just wanted to let you know that Inventory is now available :)

pedryx 2023-05-14 22:19

I really enjoyed the graphics and overall atmosphere of the game. However, I did feel that some form of tutorial at the beginning of the game would be helpful for new players. Additionally, I encountered a problem where I was not able to click on NPCs, but their dialogues would still start when I got close enough to them. Despite this, I thought that the characters, story, and environment were all great.

justinsix 2023-05-15 12:20

I made it to the castle and sorcerer and was unable to continue as the only exit was grayed out. The art being consistent everywhere is crazy if it's all made by ai. I'd definitely be curious to see your process for making the game. Good stuff overall, I'm sure you learned a lot of interesting things using AI.

corrupt-spaghetti 2023-05-16 19:06

It's amazing to see how far ai tools have improved over the past couple of years. My only feedback would be that the text is a little small.

mawrak 2023-05-16 20:57

Game looks really good, and it's an interesting experiment about how much can be done with just AI. Of course, it's not perfect - the animations are pretty rough (something that AI can't really do yet), and sometimes it looks like the character is walking on top of things. But I think with some additional human touch this game can really shine.

levi 2023-05-16 22:27

Some interesting work here. Thanks for displaying all axis of a game through the lens of AI, so we can start to see where this tools might go, what they might look like, and so on.

shimmerscale 2023-05-17 02:41

It's interesting to see a game with assets made by AI! I ran into a couple bugs though. The sprite stacking looked a bit weird since the player character couldn't walk behind objects (visually). Also, there were a couple of times I tried to click on a character, but the player character didn't walk over to them to talk to them.

pkenney 2023-05-17 03:34

Very cool exercise, thanks for showing us what can be done with the AI!

I would say the strong point was the art assets. The music sounded nice at first but wore out its welcome, in my opinion. The dialog had some holes, but pretty that's something I'd expect from AI. (eg I'm sent to the librarian because he will ask me to fetch something, but I open the conversation with him by asking him where I can find some random book I lost? AI felt like it lost track of the thread of the story)

Movement felt a bit stiff, too, but never caused any problems except maybe breaking the immersion of moving around in the nice-looking space.

Overall I appreciated the entry, especially because you went all-in on the AI as a constraint, so a great experiment for an LD, well done.

honey-pony 2023-05-17 20:53

AI generated media is interesting to me. I think you succeeded in building what is, by and large, an AI generated game--it maintains a lot of the qualities I've come to expect of AI output, but in the form of a game.

In particular, although the AI is able to make surprisingly consistent choices in a lot of places (such as the stylistic consistency in the art), there are also extremely glaring inconsistencies that a human would never make. In particular, the layout of the different locations is completely inconsistent, with entrances and exits essentially never matching up, and with some locations like the "cave" having an entrance that looks nothing like a cave at all.

Another major inconsistency is in the writing. For example, the beginning, the player is told that each person will tell them the location of the next person. I don't believe this ever actually happened in the game, however. Or, the situation with the librarian that pkenney pointed out.

This is extremely interesting, especially when I try to think of what you would need to communicate to the AI for it to make better choices. For example, you could tell it to "write , not that" -- but at that point it's probably faster to just rewrite the dialog yourself. I think it was definitely a more interesting choice to try to hand the AI the reins and just see what it makes.

I did end up softlocked in the castle, like some other commenters.

Overall, I would call this a fascinating experiment in trying to get AIs to generate a game largely by themselves (at least, that's my impression of the goal of this project). I am glad to see the bizarre novelty that AIs provide in other fields (art, writing) also exists in this project, as I think that novelty is one of the most valuable aspects of AI as it stands today.

magus77 2023-05-18 08:14

i mean, yes what everybody already said but man... i looooove the artstyle!!

kanity 2023-05-18 18:11

Wow, the art turned out fantastic, makes me a bit sad it's all AI ^^' The objects were clearly visible as obtainable, and I could see right away what could I take in a certain location, and the movement of the NPCs also helped to draw attention to them immediately.

From nitpicks what I noticed right away is very small text, it's a bit hard to read. Character movement is a bit awkward and could be a bit faster. Some moral choices also would be nice (like to be able to decline to steal the necklace and choosing some other path instead, like through the librarian, etc).

Bugs(?): The dwarf told me he just wants me to leave him alone, even after talking to him for the second time, but after leaving the room and coming back again he accepted the gemstone I found earlier.

Talking to the merchant, the answer dialogue took two lines, and they were lighting up separately, like two different choices, even though it was a single one. It seems to be the issue with all two-line answers. And with him I also had to re-enter the room even though I already had the lamp. After he told me I will have access to new places, the portal near him was still gray. I re-entered again, and it lit up.

Talking to the Ghost, in the dialogue his name was "Merchant". He asked me to bring him a gem from the castle, but castle at that point was not available. I re-entered the location and talked to the ghost again, and he happily accepted the locket (that looked like a chest) I found in the city. I couldn't take the crystal behind the ghost no matter how much I clicked and where I tried to position myself.

Then I entered the castle, but it was a sorcerer's house. The model looked like a woman, but the dialogue suggested it was a man. They told me I have to bring them a crystal from catacombs, and it will be a long and dangerous journey, but I am sure they meant that crystal I wasn't able to take from the graveyard. And at that point the only portal in the sorcerer's house was "home" which was not available, and I couldn't go back to the graveyard to try for the crystal again. And finally, while I was walking through the room in hopes of getting out, the dialogue with sorcerer activated again, but lines were not clickable, I couldn't cancel it, and couldn't move. So my heroine got stuck there for good :')

rakowu 2023-05-19 22:39

Really curious approach 😃 great art style

acearcher 2023-05-19 23:46

It's a super cool use of different AI tools! Unfortunately I wasn't able to finish - I also got stuck in the castle. There were a few NPCs that I couldn't click on to talk to, and the crystal behind the ghost wasn't collectible. It also felt like people were asking for different things than what they actually wanted, and like their descriptions didn't match the actual setting (like the ghost talking about the lamp being protected by an angry gnome, but it's actually sitting near a dwarf). Plus, everyone's dialog was almost identical. It would have been worth the time to supervise the AI more closely and make sure what it was saying made sense. But overall, awesome concept and a nice experience, although I wish it was beatable.

david-yates 2023-05-20 14:34

Awesome work generating everything with AI, I'm amazed at how well the experiment worked. I'm looking forward to reading your blog post about how you put it all together.

Also thanks for bringing Aiva to my attention, I'm gonna try that out for the next jam.
