LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

CARnage by Rolle 2017-12-06T02:13:42Z

Great job! Good style and keeping with the theme!

Cantrex by snick 2017-12-04T04:23:36Z

Really good job on execution of a simple idea and simple game. Like others have said - the pigs couldn't keep up with my appetite. I loved that the pigs get killed by the bombs!!!

Party Maker by Sempiternal 2017-12-04T04:57:10Z

Really great job for the compo with regards to art and sound!

Hymenoptera by Rocktavious 2017-12-06T02:09:46Z

Ya I didn't get as far as i wanted with the game mechanics during the jam as i wanted - and there is no real end condition, and the ants deaths take a long time to happen (not balanced well) I do hope to continue working on the game in spare time to continue to flesh out the mechanics, balance and win/lose conditions. Thanks for playing!

LD45 — Start with nothing

SHIPWRECKED by Bredera 2019-10-10T03:36:11Z

At first i was a little confused what was going on - i have to say I've never played a trading game like this before so that opened me up to a new genre. The controls were intuitive and easy but the cut scenes every transition was killing me - i think if you wanted to see have that sailing vibe having it all in one scene where you could control the raft would have at least been more acceptable IMO.

Nothing to Say by celia14 2019-10-10T03:09:23Z

Definitely a clever game, it was a little maddening to have to play it over and over and over - i ended up just clicking through the dialogue after a while because i'd read it soo often to get past it to get back to the new thing or path i unlocked by buying certain letters. I guess my only critique would be to figure out how to keep the conversation going but allow buying letter mid game to unlock the paths so its more of a dialogue puzzle then just a brute force kind of thing.

The Legend of Nothing by Niarkou 2019-10-10T03:45:44Z

Its impressive the size of what you were able to accomplish. Overall the game had a good level of polish, died to easily in the water early on and that put a sour taste in my mouth. Also the background on the Textboxes were really hard to read the letters. Overall it was a pleasing experience great work!

Virus Jones by Bernardex 2019-10-10T03:57:18Z

Way too tough IMO. Also way to many particles (it was very distracting). It also seems like the hit registration was off. Maybe after a few playtest fixes it could be good but I could never get past level 1 :(

Little Nothing Adventure by Siarhei Pilat 2019-10-10T03:21:09Z

Could use a bit more hand holding for players and the perspective/camera was a bit jarring. Also highly recommend using a platform like itch.io or uploading the WebGL build if you can. Cheers!

Sneeter by bubblewandgames 2019-10-10T03:17:02Z

The look of the game was great but the gameplay was hard to grok at first. Too many things thrown at the player. I likely would have played more but I ran into the `If you go to make a Sneet but don’t have the proper phrases/words to complete the Sneet, you’ll be stuck there forever.` - its a real game breaking problem that it seems alot of people are running into and would be the first thing i'd fix post release.

Zombug Slayer by jordanvang 2019-10-10T03:27:18Z

HAHAHAHA the beginning had me ROFL - that was really great - you made my day. Great job on the game my only critique would be the player movement felt a little sluggish and I had some issues with colliders. The rest of the game was great for a game jam so nice work!

afdsfgs fgsdg sd by Tacokhun 2019-10-10T03:18:23Z

Interesting game, it was too hard for me but it was well executed and good music!

z0t by josefk 2019-10-10T03:53:18Z

Awesome game - this is one of my favorites of LD45. Really interesting take on the mechanics and creative level design. At first I was like oh this is not going to be good, but then on level 12 you threw me for a loop and thats when i found out about shape shifting and then i started going back and playing the other levels. Great work!

Robo-Parto by Vaibho 2019-10-10T04:03:58Z

I would echo some/all of the statements others have said here - music and gameplay needed more love for sure. Maybe thats what you were going for with the disturbing or maybe the scope got too large but either way good lessons for next time! Keep at it and it'll get better and you'll get better.

EDIT: It looks like you've fixed some of the bugs in newer versions I did not play them sorry :(

LD46 — Keep it alive

Perish alive by Lyrcaxis 2020-05-09T16:31:59Z

Hey Great game. It took me maybe 3 plays to get the hang of the idea so i think a very slight tutorial would have gone a long way to getting rampped up more quickly. Also because i tried to play it 3 times i immediately noticed there was no "back" button or "restart" button. It also was not clear to me in my 1st play how to build extra rooms....so i died to the jellys and was like - HOW DO I DEAL WITH YOU!!

The being said my 3rd time i got all the way through and got to the end - i literally laughed out loud at the ending.

In terms of gameplay i think it was pretty well balanced once i get the hang of it but i think the jellys might have come on too strong in the beginning (especially in my 1st and 2nd plays)

The music was wonderful and fit really really well to the mood of the game. I do wish i would have somehow recruited more mermaids/divers? I could have used maybe 2 more near the end. I didn't really like the micro management of shooting - i wish there was 1 last end upgrade of "automated" shooting (same probably goes for healing) it would have been a nice cherry on the top of the improvement tree.

I did have some weird camera / mouse bugs near the end. Especially when clicking to view the upgrades of a room it doesn't always focus over on it. Also it zoomed in WAY to much every time i focused on an upgrade. I think a better solution would have been a sidebar popup/slide over kind of thing that way the camera stays where i want it (at the front of my ship) and i didn't have to force my camera to zoom in and slide over to the back of the ship....had to keep an eye out for those jellys!!!

Overall great game! Loved it.

FIREGUARD by Puszkee 2020-04-27T00:17:18Z

I played it a couple of times but i could never figure out how to not use up the fire. Seems like there should be a way to "stoke" the fire either with the enemy corpse or something in the world to collect/pickup. The movement controls felt responsive but the character slide around a bit which was slightly frustrating.

All in all it was a nice effort for the game jam and just a few tweaks could make it really funn!

Blood & Sawdust by mcprog 2020-05-03T18:46:53Z

Overall nice work. I agree with some others about the floaty motion/control feeling which might be leading to the "feels quite challenging" but it also is just kind of difficult in its own. Keep it up and you'll continue to make great strides!

Batry Low by SujoyByte 2020-05-03T18:51:04Z

Overall great work on your first entry (you definitely beat me my first time around!)

The major things i would change would be the jump mechanics - especially for platformers there is a special kind of jump arc that makes it feel weighty and solid and responsive - i'd dig into that for next time.

Great job on having a menu screen and restarting when you die - good polish there. Keep it up and you'll go far!

Franky by HadB 2020-05-03T18:55:22Z

Great job on your first game for the jam! You definitely beat me my first time around. Near the end the enemies came to fast and overall the game loop is not much fun but you finished and have something to continue to build on if you want. Great work on the art and overall mood too.

Love Verne by Greebs 2020-05-03T19:05:29Z

This was one of the best games i've played in LD history. VERY VERY well done! Beautiful art, sound and mood. Kept right in theme and was fun to figure out and play. I did play the "post" LD version which is much better and easier to understand so you clearly have great skill. Awesome job I aspire to make games like you!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Reminiscence by Curtis Pelissier 2021-05-06T18:51:25Z

Cool game, nice job with the art and the mood. At first I couldn't visually tell you could walk past the stairs and then later when I did it wasn't immediately intuitive how to walk back up them. I think having some sort of art change to signal you can walk past stairs instead of having them be the same as the ground color would have helped. Not sure what to do for the stairs walking up.

I like how many game mechanics you introduced but since it was a game jam it would have been better to pick 1 or 2 and really dive deep into them (this is something I myself succumb too when I make jam game too - many mechanics none of them felt great or fleshed out)

Great job overall!

Flare by emmyoop 2021-05-05T19:07:34Z

Thanks @atinybean we are still struggling to get our WEBGL version to run/build properly so thanks for playing the Windows Version!

The Bothnia Trench by Milestone Games 2021-05-06T19:26:50Z

WOW. I don't generally like point and click games but the art style grabbed me. So I played and loved it!

Some finer points that would really make the game sing! - Sound FX and visual FX for the items when you pick them up or mouse pick them up (I didn't notice I was getting items at first) - When the doorway exit was the middle bottom of the room i always forgot that and I thought I got stuck in some rooms until i remembered. I think make some sort of dark gradient in the middle of the room would have helped to signify a door to get out is in the middle bottom. - The dialogue choices UI needed a background element so that it doesn't conflict/blend into the environment art - It would have been nice to have a character that walks around rather then just using the mouse - but I get it - game jams and scope

Good work - I wish you the best of luck with any future changes and if you participate in the next game jam!

Shiny Depths by José Bonilla 2021-05-06T19:02:29Z

I am really impressed with your compo game! Great work! I think you walked a very fine line on limiting mechanics as it could have come out unfinished with many features half baked but you did a great job fleshing out what was there.

I do wish that I could have dug upwards, it was not immediately obvious I couldn't do that and I got stuck my first time. But restarting over I just kept making sure I wouldn't get stuck - this felt antithetical to the actual design of the game (but maybe that's just me).

I agree with most everyone's feedback and the 1.2 changes you've made definitely make the game feel better. Keep at it!!!

Insane in the Membraine by PotatoMcMan 2021-05-06T19:14:23Z

Nice solid game. At first it wasn't clear how to know the laser beams are coming but after a being hit a handful of time I figured it out.

I liked that you had to find the DNA strand on every floor before you could move down it created a nice mini game loop inside the overall game loop. I also love the little tutorial text in the background in the beginning (i'm stealing this idea for my next jam game)

The controls of the character felt a little stiff and I felt like i was fighting the game trying to make my character move the way I intended. I would work on making those feel a bit smoother and easier to control. This is something you just get a feel for after you've played alot of platformers and try to implement their movement styles. There is definitely a "way" we are all used to a character moving in platformers that history of gaming has impressed upon us.

Good luck with any improvements you make and in the next game jam if you participate!

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

It's Snake, But Every 10 Seconds The Food Turns Into Walls by Aristurtle 2022-10-05T02:16:28Z

This is a GREAT game! I love how you took a simple concept and transformed it to the theme. This slight tweak actually makes the core concept really fun and interesting. I found myself really having to keep an eye on the time so I didn't run into something thats going to become a wall soon.

It would be nice if the 10 second timer was baked into UI a bit more so I didn't have to avert my eyes from the snake - maybe with the pulsing happening only for the last 3 seconds or some sort of color shift beginning to happen.

Great work!

LD52 — Harvest

Midday Garden by Dustyroom 2023-01-16T22:15:16Z

The game is pretty fun but i feel its not balanced well. Most of the time you are just running away but what you kill drops the coins behind you into the massive pile of mobs following directly behind you so you never get to pickup the coins because you never get enough time in a way to make a big enough circle.

So i think if you could balance the mob types and movement styles it would be much more interesting and fun. Alternatively you could have a limit number of mobs per wave so they slowly disapate and you can get around to picking up the coins - then it becomes a puzzle to not kill everything but still pickup your coins.

Pair that with a few interesting movement choices like a dash with a cooldown or a teleport back to a set location and you open up to the player a large number of interesting choices to make keeping the game engaging.

Also in the beginning all you do is plant corn to ensure you have enough ammo. That makes the upgrade system feel like you don't have interesting choices initially.

The art style and ambient music/sound a great though. With just a few tweaks and a few more interesting choices this would have been one of the better entries in the jam. Great work!

Warden of the Woods by arzi 2023-01-15T14:29:37Z

Wow - I was continually impressed with this game at every turn. I figured it would be over in 5-10 mins but it kept going and going and I was impressed at ever step. The Dialogue was funny, the directions were clear for the most part, things made sense and the progression was consistent and forward the whole time. I was floored when I got the sword and then it opened up new maps. Amazing job! I will definitely be using your game as the stick i measure my future jams by.

9CELL by binroot 2023-01-16T21:31:45Z

This is a real interesting concept and a great take on the theme. It was a little too unsettling for me but I could feel the Tamagotchi inspiration so great work!

Carrot: Journey to the Surface by DJTequila 2023-01-16T02:37:05Z

I have to say with a complex control scheme like you had the tutorial text and simple introductions of each really did a great job. Great work with the tutorial! (this is something i always forget to add to my games)

The jump overall felt too floaty especially in constrast to the carrot top spin move. The character moved around a little to on ice to me - reduce that movement or make the platform bigger - i keep slipping off stuff.

Having to jump to shoot felt weird i ended up just doing that and the drill most of the time.

Overall i think you did a great job keep at it!

Wheat World by Belonzik 2023-01-16T02:48:01Z

WOW ... Just WOW. Hands down one of the best games i've ever played. The controls are tight the difficulty just right - hard enough that you have to keep trying but simple enough that once you get a good feel for it you can get it right. Also making it super easy to restart/retry was very keep in keeping the frustration level down. you are a true master.

Everything else is just icing on that cake. Great visuals, Great Music, Great SFX, Great level design.

You deserve the top spot and I hope you win! Amazing.

The Gold'n Apples by kikiriki367 2023-01-16T21:49:17Z

This was a very awesome game! I like the tutorial and the mechanics were easy to understand but hard to master because of the input randomness. The only thing I wish I had was a way to "restart" my island instead of having to go back to the beginning of the game.

Other then that great work!!

Crop Circle by Rulrite 2023-01-16T02:11:05Z

Wow amazing game. Reading through some of the suggestions and comments i actually think it would be better to make the field much much larger. Almost 2x or 3x the size to give the player room to utilize the core mechanic of the spacebar and mouse button. The smaller field limited me to how much i played with that and mainly just went fast with spacebar held down and then alternated lifting the spacebar and the mouse button to get tighter circles. It become pretty route after a bit and i felt i needed a much much bigger play area so as I spun around i should miss stuff and then work at getting just the right combination of spacebar and mouse button to get the distance and speed i need to pickup the crops i previously missed.

A bigger play area would also allow you to slow down the crop growth (reducing the frantic ness) and then maybe throw in some - if there is less than 20% crop on the field speed up the growth rate - so as to keep the player engaged.

Overall - this is likely one of the best Jam games i've played so far though but these few improvements would definitely make it next level and help balance out the game.

Red Owl LD 52 by Rocktavious 2023-01-15T13:39:43Z

Thanks @schnodelfactory , @elflashor , @sillyman987 , @ninnec

Ya this was a known issue at submission time but because of my dayjob i never had the time to fix it.

But this weekend I finally got it to work in WebGL - If you want to know more see - https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/red-owl-ld-52/$322433

Let me know if you have any other problems. Now I can finally start to play others games too! :tada:

Red Owl LD 52 by Rocktavious 2023-01-15T18:38:02Z

@sergio-nikol - We were not able to get an end built during the jam - thanks for playing! @moosey - You interact with the campfire to bring up the crafting menu - we never get far enough to build tutorials :( @j0ye - Thanks!

Red Owl LD 52 by Rocktavious 2023-01-16T02:51:45Z

Thanks for the kind words @3ggplant - i choose the old-school dungeon crawler style to get some reps in to prepare for https://itch.io/jam/dcjam2023

@fullheartgames - ya animation is not my strong suit and I didn't have time to rig up the models so i just went with something simple. To use block you must buy the shield. If you get the dagger or sword you can parry. Definitely need to invest in tutorial tooling to make setting up that kind of stuff easier.

Thanks for playing all!

Red Owl LD 52 by Rocktavious 2023-01-17T00:43:10Z

Thanks for playing and the feedback @ssh-randy , @atmospherium , @projectaroid , @buni @floke

@patbgames - Ya its undocumented but you can hit the ESC key to back out of battle. I threw this in for testing but wasn't sure if it should be part of the actual control scheme. Thanks for playing!

Red Owl LD 52 by Rocktavious 2023-01-21T19:00:27Z

Thanks for all the reviews and plays everyone you have uplifted my spirits - @bloodfin, @stone-pacifier , @kir-pow , @eldogg.

@kikiriki367 - That is one of the most wholesome things someone has ever said to me! Thank you so much and i'm happy i could open you up to a new game genre. Since i know you like to jam on games you might be interested in the fact that there is a whole game jam dedicated to this kind of game genre and i'll be putting in an entry for that. https://itch.io/jam/dcjam2023

Bill, The ATMan by J0ye 2023-01-15T18:51:44Z

The game idea is funny but the platforming is way too hard. Also I expected things to change in the level to keep me on my toes but because nothing changes (at least in my play through - i only got 1 guy with money) because the platforming was way to hard to get back up i lost interest quick.

The music was great - it reminded me alot of the old school sim farm games. The SFX was also good - especially for the interactions with the different platforming challenge things.

I think having a level that either would change or that you can change would go along way to making the game keep your attention.

Farming Combos by Doctor_Zeus 2023-01-17T01:01:33Z

The controls were a bit hard to understand / use. I understand why you made it so you don't have to click so much but often times that hurt me and i'd prematurely harvest something on accident while swiping my mouse around. Maybe i'm just old and not as twitch gamer as i should be for this.

Overall the different level layouts were good though and really dive deep into the mechanics and the optimization the player could try for.

I thought the plants grew up and died just a little too fast. Also it would help to give the "fully grown" plays some sort of particle FX - it was hard to understand when excatly they were ready and by the time i realized they were dead.

I wonder if it would also help to have a separate "planting" phase from a "harvesting" phase. Kind of give the player that mental mindset shift - ok here's how i'm going to plant the different crops and then switch over into the harvest mindset based on the "plan of action" you setup in the planting phase.

Overall a pretty good entry though.

Apple Harvest by PROJECTaroid 2023-01-16T21:18:13Z

The art is nice and the music goes right with it. I love when people make an "experience" style game like this. Keeps the scope small and doable and you feel real good at the end completing it. We did a similar thing for a previous jam and your's is very much the same.

Great work and congratulations! Keep it up!

Chloroblast by Phibian 2023-01-15T18:44:43Z

The Art and music are really really good. I couldn't understand the gameplay though. I keep running out of pollen and money and couldn't figure out how to progress it seemed to easy to get stuck with nothing for the player to do to generate resources and get "unstuck". But maybe this is because i never got to the tower defense part. Nothing would spawn and the game wouldn't change into that mode for me. (I played in the embedded browser)

Afterlife Assistance Agency by FishMasterino 2023-01-16T22:02:59Z

This game really impressed me. Super polished, tight game loop, easy win/lose condition but hard to master.

My only feedback is that characters spend too much time off screen because of the looping around the screen nature and that caused me to lose because I lost time waiting for them to come back on screen.

Other then that - all 5's IMO - Great Game!

Organ Punk by tengusheath 2023-01-16T02:18:13Z

Interesting take on the theme. It felt very reminiscent of a portion of graveyard keeper gameplay but simplified for a game jam.

Feedback: I had no idea what the toxicity meter was for or what created it. I wish i could organize my organs and put them on ice during the downtime between customers. I wish it was easier to target select the organs for pickup - once i had more then 5 or 6 laying on the floor i just kept picking up the wrong thing.

I will say the interaction mechanics were great - i know how hard those can be to program and this felt very intuitive so great job!

Protect the Garden by Buni 2023-01-16T21:24:19Z

I really like the twist on the TD genre where you pick your towers to get more money. (I think this could be a really fun game with some tweaks) I will say at first this was not clear to me.

I think initially the amount of money is far too low and the bugs come far too fast. I was not able to even kill 1 bug so I think the starting money has to be higher or the waves have to ramp up slower at first.

I tried 3 times and was never able to survive or kill a bug.

Great job on getting a TD game complete though. Lots of space for improvements and mechanics that could turn this game into something very unique and fun. Keep at it!

Catchy by danmerey 2023-01-16T21:57:53Z

Fishing games are not generally my jam but this one was pretty simple and relaxing. I had a bit of difficult navigating because of the wind (but i'm also terrible at realistic sailing games - LOL)

It would have been nice to have some sort of guide to finding the fish - it seemed/felt a bit random to me but maybe i'm just used to quests directing you for these kinds of things.

The artistic style of the game is great too!

Tattie Season by Marton 2023-01-17T00:50:10Z

The game was short but the music was great. There could be some better differentiation between the UI and the background since both are blueish it was hard to see. Also i didn't understand what the point of collecting the ice drop was. It seems when you get to the flag at the end of the ice level thats all there is. Is that the case?

Also the jumpy felt too floaty and the movement too slow. Overall the art was good just need some color or distinct differentiation as everything was too much the same color.

Musical Mining : The Harmony of Greed by Andy-Link 2023-01-16T02:41:21Z

Art, story and music were all very very well done. You broke my brain with the circular timing but then the "oh noo" when you miss had me laughing I almost fell out of my chair.

I found the timing of the buttons the hardest - not sure if it was the circular nature of it all or just the "grace period" was not long enough. It also ramped up in difficulty really quickly.

All in all an amazing entry though.

Harvest Shroom by Achilnos 2023-01-16T02:59:12Z

Honestly - amazing first entry to the jam. Way better then we did the first time around.

Overall the gameplay was good and the controls were good and tight. I struggled with not moving fast enough or bumping against corners it felt i should have not hit. Also it seemed like the steps countdown was just slightly too fast as it did the pickup animation but then i'd immediately die after words.

Also a tutorial explaining the mushroom interactions - i died alot in the beginning.

Keep up the great work! Great Entry.

Garden of Eldritch Delights by autumnmnmn 2023-01-17T01:12:49Z

The visuals and the music/sound design are phenomenal! Great Job!!!!

The gameplay is confusing and I couldn't figure out exactly what to do. I can pickup seeds and bring them back to my god - but it seems like there was something about blood and growing that i just couldn't figure out.

Also the game's camera angle is hard to deal with and its zoom'd too far out. I wanted some close ups on those great artistic visuals (they are gorgeous). I think a forced split screen would work really well here and give the much needed zoom in without being distracting.

No Harvest by RogerW 2023-01-16T21:42:05Z

Wow this was a very solid and fun game. I'm incredibly impressed! The shape for the big fireball (the diamond shape one) is very useless because its so spread out. The square and the cross shapes are the most useful. The horizontal line should be a 2 rows instead of 1. This would balance out the power of each spell.

Also, while i understand this is a game job, i could see a few upgrade being really interesting here. Allowing the player to selectively invest in their spells to increase the shape size or have knock on affects like a "splatter" where it randomly spills over into a random neighbor space.

Things like that would really amp up the "interesting choices" the place has to make.

Overall great work though - one of the better games i've played!!!

Bean Farmer Extreme 2 by bytecauldron 2023-01-16T02:21:55Z

The game is super fun but very hard. I love the music and the simplicity.

I think the only improvements you could make are just adding more variety of upgrades and just more content overall but thats expected for a game jam so I think you did a great job keeping scope small and getting a small polished thing out.

Great work!

LD53 — Delivery

The Kings Scam by JCMonkey 2023-05-06T01:34:21Z

Agree with other the game is fun, concise and works. I like how you flipped the theme on its head. I might have been nice to have a little minimap of where the enemys are in relation to the gate so while you are running to get arrows you can plan you next plan of attack - i spent too much time just trying to see where the guys where only for them to get into the game before i shot anything.

Parcel Pursuit by bloodyaugust 2023-05-06T21:18:18Z

The art, music and effects are great!!! After dieing once i finally understood the loop and did way better the second time. The only thing that tripped me up was the window for the double jump - it seems like there is a time window after you press jump once to be able hit the double jump and this kept tripping me up. In most games that have double jump as long as you are not grounded and havn't double jumped yet you can still do it. I think if you fixed this the game would be almost perfect.

Props for making the end game screen seemlessly loop into the mainmenu and right back into gameplay. VERY NICE!

Frogwarts Delivery Service by ildfuglen 2023-05-06T19:42:10Z

Interesting take on flappy bird + bullet hell wrapped up into the theme - I think you nailed it. It's a very well polish game not much to say other then that its a bit on the hard side because both of these genres are hard in their own right.

It would have been nice to know how far I got (i never made it to the end) but knowing I was only a few more seconds from the end maybe i'd tried harder but its a tough game.

Great work on the art as well!

Tough Crowd by Apple Dash 2023-05-06T19:46:29Z

This was an interesting take on the theme. I couldn't tell exactly how to get a better score but 1 run through i got 70% so that seems good even though the game said it wasn't. /shrug

Dungeons & Delivery by frozenfire92 2023-05-06T14:30:58Z

I like the base idea for the game but its waaaaaay to hard especially with they touch you just once and the whole game is over. I could never actually get a dungeon setup because the mobs just come straight for you and never relent and there is no mechanics to quickly get away from them or trick them or anything. Also you seem to move at the same speed as the mobs so once they close ground on you there is never getting any room back.

Also the map movement is not so great - it would be easier if WASD worked on the map but if you really want the click to move then it needs to queue up clicks so you can chain the path you want to take.

The art and music are really nice and everything fits with the theme.

Generated Adventure by gamescodedogs 2023-05-06T21:09:56Z

Its amazing what AI can create with a little help from a human (strike that reverse it). The world is forever changed.

Ravenhaul by Rongo Matane 2023-05-06T20:15:24Z

Amazing game would easily be a good commercial game. The only thing missing for me is something a bit more "action" based. Its alot of reading and thinking and planning - to counter point that some missions where you fly around and do stuff would create a really nice balance. I really like the flying around but was hugely disappointed when I couldn't leave the screen.

A+++ on the music and mood though!

ROG LD53 - Relic Courier by Rocktavious 2023-05-03T01:32:09Z

Hey @jcmonkey - This is a bug with the webgl version it seems. I'm going to try and fix it before the weekend but it works fine on the MacOS and Windows version. Cheers.

ROG LD53 - Relic Courier by Rocktavious 2023-05-03T03:20:24Z

Thanks for trying again @jcmonkey - I've uploaded a new WebGL build that fixes the combat bug. I'll make down the enemy facing problem thanks for the report. Glad you had fun!

ROG LD53 - Relic Courier by Rocktavious 2023-05-06T16:45:50Z

@bukaanka - Thanks for playing and glad you have found. Ya parry is too powerful its difficult to balance difficulty for a LD game since the audience is so wide.

@vknauss - Ya that was the intention with the combat system I just didn't have enough time to add more mechanics like special abilities and such. I'm thinking about turning this into a fully game so if you have any ideas let me know.

@fireslash - Ya a poise damage system would fit really well into this - Thanks! As for the relic in the 2nd level - its right there at the start - a couple of people i've watched play the game have missed it. This is a failure of the tutorial setup i think with the relic not coming in till later.

@hwaet - Thanks for playing - ya i tried to stick to the typical dungeon crawler setup - maybe adding a "free look" would help?

@carraka - Thanks for the feedback - i do think the level layout needs a slight bit more "variation" to help with getting lost. Definitely something that could be improved upon - Thanks for playing.

@the-neon-shark - Thanks for playing glad you have fun!

@nizanth-p - Ya an HUD or Compass style system (like in the open world games) would help iron that out I think. Thanks for playing!

@tony-li - UI is definitely the area where i struggle the most. I'm gonna work on that skill untill next jam.

@yuriscat - Thanks I would really appreciate that. Glad you had fun. Do note there is no save system implemented so once you quit you are back at the beginning.

De-Liver by benskca 2023-05-06T14:43:39Z

Brilliant idea for the theme. The only problem I had was i didn't know what to do with the red ones once they were identified. The controls where good and I understand why there was screens to tab through but I would have like to have only 2; 4 was too many.

I enjoyed the game though and with a bit more tutorial to sand over the rough edges it would be a very great entry!

The Pigeon Post Principle by cassowary 2023-05-06T21:00:03Z

This game is absolutely perfect. Nothing to complain about its top notch. My 6 year old and 4 year old played it for 1 hour they loved it.

Olympus Food Delivery by SolidHinken 2023-05-06T14:51:14Z

This a great game. The controls are good once i understood them and the cloud mechanics were unexpected but great especially for the replay value. I wished it had some music and some SFX for the thunder cloud that would have given is that extra bit of polish to really make things sing! Great work!

deLIVERY by hwaet 2023-05-06T14:23:33Z

Its definitely an original game but i didn't really understand the mechanics. It would benefit from a tutorial for at least 1 or 2 sheilds. It felt like a puzzle game but there was no way to understand what exactly i should have been drawing (until i read the comments).

The drawing concept for the game was a cool idea and very unique for a jam game.

Delivery survival by S1l3Jamal 2023-05-06T02:06:32Z

The gameplay loop is a bit too short and gets repetitive too quickly - theres no amount of interesting choice its just collect and collect, use to stay alive and then was rinse repeat - no player agency to do something different.

Also the controls are weird in that you have to both move close and use the mouse to open the package. Since there is no keyboard button to interact with the closest thing (which would make sense since you have to physically move close to the package) instead this leaves the player with a weird "dual movement" of both the mouse and the player character have to be near a package to open it which is cumbersome.

Additionally it seems like i broke the game because my food meter was under 0 at -60 yet i could still play the game.

The game was easy to pickup and play without any kind of tutorial and the sound effects where good. The packages blowing on to the island beech was funny to see.

All your Deliveries have come at once!! by JAsonsumm1 2023-05-06T19:58:07Z

Great take on the theme. I had a hard time placing the objects into the rooms. Sometimes it worked but sometimes it didn't work, sometimes they'd place right on top of each other sometime it wouldn't. If this inconsistency was cleaned up it would be stellar.

Also it would be good to break it up into levels where you actually need to tetris style fit stuff together in the rooms. Then you as the game designer could design the order in which the items arrive but there is still a limited amount of things until the level ends and you start over with a different room and different set of items in a different order.

Overall great work though.

Viking Delivery by GreenData 2023-05-06T16:54:40Z

The graphics/visuals are nice. The music doesn't really fit with the "feel" of the game. The boat moves really slowly and there are no sailing mechanics to give you "interesting choices" to speed up, deliver faster or maybe the more packages your boat has the slower it goes so there is risk vs reward.

At first i didn't know how to deliver the packages but then i realized they were getting auto picked up when you graze by one of the islands - this could be made more clear with some SFX on delivery or some particle effects.

The arrows were super helpful to find the packages but they should only appear near the edges of the screen and should go away when the package is "on the screen" - i was able to get into a weird state where the arrows where flipping around and moving from package to package.

Volksdam by Wuppos 2023-05-06T21:22:55Z

The game is great! Great mixture of paperboy and DDR. The only thing that tripped me up is when you get going fast enough sometimes the buildings are soo close to each other and they have the same symbol they both trigger but my brain was expecting to double tap the symbol so this kept throwing me off and then i'd miss the next building and lose all my speed.

Other then that is a great winning jam entry! Congrats!

Hear Ye! by krummja 2023-05-06T02:47:03Z

All in all - this is a really nice and well polished game. The platformer controller is good enough for a game jam IMO but I can see how few tweaks as people have mentioned would make it really sing. The dodging feels great. Level design was pretty good too though the art gets a bit distracting for me since everything is shades of the same color - a little more separation between the background the level elements would be nice. Great work!

Pyrospectra by Danyclockworker 2023-05-06T14:17:35Z

This a great jam game! The art is nice, the music is perfect to the style and gameplay, the mechanics work well and the theme ties in perfectly. Great work!

The only feedback i would have is it would be nice of the camera showed a little more infront of the character and less behind the character and if there was a slight bit of tutorial as the mechanics were introduced.

Impeachment by Kler 2023-05-06T02:34:35Z

The visual's and mood of the game are awesome and the theme plays into it well. The sound/music was non intrusive and whent with the mood. I would have liked to hear some sound effects for some of the actions - like attacking, the peach losing the crown, the worms coming in etc.

Overall the peach is just way too difficult to defend. The worms come to fast and there is no easy ramp up/in to the mechanic. There is not enough feedback on the attacking to know if you are doing it right and picking up the crown to give back is too cumbersome - at one point i got the crown attached to the peach's backside and then it would catch worms so the peach was effectively larger making it harder for me - it would have been nice if the crown just attached back to the same spot it started.

CIA - Mailsystem by StephanSchue 2023-05-06T02:20:33Z

The character movement is too "slidey" it feels like you are walking on ice all the time. This doesn't just make the game hard it makes the game frustrating since you are trying to do some precision movement to go pickup the tube and drop it into another too.

The input mechanisms feel good they just don't translate on the character well because of the skating on ice feel.

The concept is nice and simple and straight to the point of the theme. The music was nice too but I would have like to hear some sound effects even just some simple things to make your actions more concrete and alive.

Overall the game wasn't challenging enough but I think that was to be expected given the design. The pipes having to be adjust was a nice touch but maybe if you could somehow turn that into something to figure out each time maybe even using a "daily work" system where the pipes change each day and the colors shift around - something to give the gameplay loop a bit more variation.

Last Stand Delivery by Sheng Mai 2023-05-06T15:06:22Z

The visuals and the game play are pretty good and it easy to get into quickly. It really needs an undo to undo your actions i had to restart the levels several times just because i pressed a button to many times and took too many steps. The music loop is too short and gets annoying quickly.

I really like your twist on the sokoban where merge upgrades into the mobs thats a very nice twist to the puzzle. Great work!

De-Evil-ery by Pipo 2023-05-06T02:41:12Z

The visuals and mood of the game seem good but i don't have a VR set so I couldn't actually play the game.

I really like that you tied the game's lose condition into a world element instead of just a HUD element - thats fantastic design thinking.

I also like that you moved the spawners around the level to give a bit of life "oh now they are coming from over there"

Red Planet Rendezvous by csimpson 2023-05-06T15:19:29Z

This is one of those games thats perfect for a game jam. Simple controls but hard to master and wasn't frustrating to try and try and try again. Great Work! I almost got it landed but on my best try I ran out of fuel right at the end and landed too hard :(

I could see the engine gas feeling better / easier to use on a joystick vs the keyboard. Also it would be nice if the sky crane started with the gas on right way at least 1/4 or 1/2 of the full power.

Sendburg Delivery Service by Bukaanka 2023-05-06T01:28:29Z

Overall its a very nice puzzle game. I would have liked to have some sound effects for the characters walking in and out as well as a nice jingle when you complete the puzzle - right now it feels a little anti-climatic and loses the sense of reward of completing the puzzles - especially after you've solved 10+ of them and they start to get pretty hard.

Overall though I liked the game.

Delivery Survivor by Smoky01 2023-05-06T17:03:12Z

I couldn't really understand the game loop i wasn't sure how to actually deliver anything. The monsters just come at you but it seems like they just randomly die maybe it's the weird sword slash thats hitting them but its unclear.

E only seemed to work inside the portal and then it significantly slowed me down when i dropped the crystal as the market it didn't seem to do anything. Some sound effects would have helped with understanding that my actions were actually doing something.

Overall i think the game needs a bit more of a tutorial or explanation.

D'erps Delivery Debacle by Digx7 2023-05-06T01:55:05Z

It took me quite a while to figure out exactly what to do but once i understood how to drop items so i could carry something else back then things started to click. I didn't understand dropping the chest by the bow until i accidentally did it. Overall the game is really solid but it could benefit from a simple tutorial for picking up, dropping items and to express the reasons why you'd want to do them. In the end i still had a ton of fun - great work!

Aliexspace by Batony Robson 2023-05-06T14:59:16Z

The visuals of the game are interesting but has others have said the gameplay is pretty boring. The dancing robot is more annoying than fun to deal with. Overall the execution is strong and as you build up more experience you'll find ways to make even small ideas like this fun to play it just takes time and experience. Keep at it!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Splendid Adventures on a Sunday Afternoon by blinry 2018-04-24T14:47:56Z

I ate the berries and loved it!!!!! 10/10 would play again.

Only thing was when i played there appeared to be a bug for walking to the left - the graphics didn't show up only a "missing image" icon.

QuickDraw TCG by CMLSC 2018-04-24T14:26:53Z

Really love the genre combination and the graphics. Really great job!!! I think you nailed the theme on the head and surprisingly made it still a blast to play!!

Journey to The Core by Holofire 2018-04-24T14:40:59Z

Used a slide card to "slide" over a jump gap! 10/10!

Everything about this game exudes polish and fun! Great job!!!!

The only real nitpick i have is i want 1,2,3,4,etc buttons to use the cards instead of the mouse and i want the cards to automatically slot in next to each other as i use them up. I purchased a "jump" card and it ended up on the next page of cards that i didn't know i had and caused me to fail #feelsbad.

I got ~82m

Golf N' Grenades by Imphenzia 2018-05-05T02:35:04Z

Loved the low poly art, really good job on the modeling! The controls were a bit hard, or i just suck at aiming, but after a while i sorta got better at aiming. There are definitively some areas that can be improved but most people have pointed them out so nice work overall!

10 Second Script by Gabe 2018-04-26T01:07:54Z

I'm not really understanding this i guess - what 2 genres did you combine?

Type Fighter: Turbo by megamasterx 2018-04-26T03:00:43Z

Really interesting combo, i think it works pretty well together. My only feedback would be to have some sort of UI element that shows which place on the text you are at - sometimes i would get off and not know where i am (at a space or something) and then all my typing became off because i was 1 character ahead of where i thought i was or 1 character behind - this disrupted my typing and made me lose more :(

Rhythm Quest by achebit 2018-04-26T01:21:33Z

Really well polished game!!! I really like the simplicity of controls and the mood it was really good. My only complaint is that the runway for the match is very small and i often times got messed up because things came in to fast and you barely had any time to react.

I think the upgrades/improvements you suggest would really polish this game and make it more replayable. Good work!!

Seaman Sleuth by pudding 2018-04-24T14:59:04Z

Hmm, it looks like a game i would really like, but the HTML5 version doesn't play for me, it just skips all the dialogue and walks forward. I think something is messed up with the input. I'll keep this one in my pocket and come back if you can iron out the bugs. Thanks for the review on my game.

Crops in Space by mrjoshuamclean 2018-04-26T03:46:58Z

Interesting FTL alternative type concept - i agree with others, it was alot of concepts to dump on the player initially, i think this would benefit from something a little more gradual / building up the introduction of new mechanics. Nice job overall!!!

Defender of the Road by Val 2018-04-26T01:48:26Z

I think it really shows that tower defense racing doesn't really go together so +5 on theme HAHA

Since its basically just a hero based tower defense game - on that i think alot more could be done to make it more interesting, such as monster variations instead of just packing them closer and closer together. Also very easy to get super high score using just your racecar(hero)

Also having having reverse is a bummer thats how i ended up loosing o stopped blocking the road and tried to try something else but too many got through.

Super Bass Racing by isaaclopinho 2018-04-26T01:59:09Z

Really good job on the game. The only thing is sort of a nitpick, but the notification on fish biting is just a tad to subtle - i found it hard to know when to press the button to reel them in. But this is something they've polished over and over and over in the bash pro fishing series.

Need for Fish by joh 2018-04-26T01:39:02Z

Just like other have said - you rocked this! I could not find anything wrong with this, i've played 5 to six times now, but i still cannot beat the NPCs. So maybe it could be easier HAHA, but really because i liked the challenge!!! Great work!

Dungeon Slider by justinooncx 2018-04-26T02:19:27Z

Great jam entry - i honestly have no comments, its near flawless, well balanced, and has a good progression system. The spyglass is a perfect touch to give the player the ability to feel like its their skill winning the game vs pure luck of not steping on traps.

Feels like a full game released on a mobile platform - it would do well i think! Just needs music and you have something that would sell.

Court Invaders by Robber 2018-04-24T14:53:28Z

Like others have said really really good work with the genre crossover. I would not have expected this to work so well but it really does. 10/10!!! My only complaint is its very hard to bot watch the tenis ball and the aiming square, took me forever to kill the baddies......but i'm not really sure how you'd fix that, maybe making the baddies move less and or getting rid of the weird in/out perspective in favor of just a left/right initially. Seems like the perspective movement should be saved for a harder level.

Brickris Tetout by fluffy 2018-04-24T14:10:45Z

I too got the ball over-accelerating glitch a number of times.

Overall really good game you made here. Its interesting how trapping the ball is sudo helpful until the bricks start coming fast then you're just playing with too small a tetris board. ;)

Would be nice if there was some mechanic that dropped the blocks down when there become random spaces taken out by the ball - like some sort of weight simulation almost.

Rogue Pawn by Arden 2018-04-26T03:28:07Z

This is crazy good!!!! The hardest part was getting used to attacking at angles, but just like chess, pawn's can be deceptively strong. I would have loved to pick which piece i could play as at the beginning - something worth adding in the future - being a rook would have been fun (IE ranged attack)

Great work!!!!!!

Dancing Bandit by Tay 2018-04-24T15:05:43Z

I agree with most sentiments here, the tempo is just a little slow and a bit monotonous. But i also found the difficulty ramps up alot quickly with the spot lights and such. I think the foundation of the game is solid and with a few tweaks and a few more interesting choices it could be really fun! Good work!

Think Before Escape by acoto87 2018-04-26T02:04:25Z

Excellent game! 5/5 all around. This type of game genre mix seems to be doing really well - i forsee turn-based platforms becoming a thing i think. The only thing i found odd is that the moving platforms stayed moving the whole time - not sure why but i would have expected them to only move on the enemy turn.....strange thats what i would have expected

Simmer Down by PronomicalArtist 2018-04-26T01:54:43Z

Great job on this - my only complaint is that things seem unnecessarily spread out. Would have been nice if there were more obstacles or a gameplay reason for things to be so spread out.

Harvest: The Farming - Red Owl Games by Rocktavious 2018-04-20T22:47:45Z

Thanks for playing - I really look forward to your feedback!!

Harvest: The Farming - Red Owl Games by Rocktavious 2018-04-26T01:05:23Z

@Tay Thanks for playing - ya i too agree i needed more cards, but i just ran out of time. As for the randomness - the only thing that is random is the weather events on your fields (and only 1 is selected every 2 cards drawn with a ~30% of nothing happening) So really not much random. The cards are actually recycling - as you use them or discard them they cycle to the bottom of your deck - this is probably something i could have pointed out better in the initial tutorial. @KappaJin Thanks for playing - ya i think more cards could really turn this into a more polished experience. @Velocity7 Thanks!!

Harvest: The Farming - Red Owl Games by Rocktavious 2018-04-26T02:23:42Z

@isaaclopinho Ya i wish i had time to make an intro/help menu - but i tried to keep the initial setup simple with just a 2 cards and slowly add more and more to your deck as you play/achieve score. I'm not an artist so i would love to have had better graphics (maybe something i'll work on for the next LD) Thanks for playing!!

Harvest: The Farming - Red Owl Games by Rocktavious 2018-04-26T03:06:23Z

@megamasterx Thanks! I didn't get to spend as much time making the cards and interactions as much as i wanted and if people seem interested i'll probably keep developing the game after LD in which i'll add a ton more cards and progression things. @haharo Ya simfarm was my insperiation (i love that game) I do wish i had more art skill / time to work on art, maybe something i'll revamp if i continue working post LD. @joltjab HAHA, ya a few of my co-workers have said they lost track of time too - makes me feel like there is a solid game concept here that i might continue to work on post LD to really polish something up. There is not actual ending - but the new cards stop coming after a score of +250

Harvest: The Farming - Red Owl Games by Rocktavious 2018-04-26T03:30:30Z

@Yirggzmb Wow you did play for a while!!! the tractor card is the 2nd to last card i made, so i didn't get to test it because i had to make some game logic changes near the publish hour. I'll see if i can go in and test/fix it this weekend. Thanks!!!

Harvest: The Farming - Red Owl Games by Rocktavious 2018-04-26T03:36:14Z

@justinooncx - Flooding is incurable - the strategy i planned for that is just harvest as soon as possible ;) The little green guy is pests (i took my field afflictions straight from sim farm) - in the beginning you should have gotten it after you did your first spray fertilizer - if not something got bugged and i'll try to look into why. Thanks for playing!!!

Super Slime Slasher Ultra by sebastianscaini 2018-04-26T01:02:06Z

Really well polished game and really good job on the theme - match 3 + action rpg. My only complaint is that like other have said the mouse and keyboard controls arn't great, but i'm not really sure how you'd make them better. I think this could be steller game if it had a few more features/mechnanics such as upgrades, something to spend your points on etc. Good Work!

Date Attack - A Dating Simulator Idle Game by PineappleBox 2018-04-24T14:24:46Z

While i'm not a big fan of these kinds of games - i tried to play it anyways. I didn't really understand what was going on initially, and the abrupt ending felt forced. I think you stuck well to the theme and you successfully completed the game so good job!

Fail Fast Co. by hunz 2018-04-26T02:52:16Z

Interesting game - it was a bit too complex for me and the user feedback of exactly what was happening was hard to decern. After playing for a while it started to come around to me, but there were so many mechanics up front a slower introduction to the cards and what they could would have helped me out. Keep up the good work!!!

Everything is Cards! by Casual Dutchman 2018-04-26T01:30:50Z

I think its an interesting combo but it just didn't feel baked enough for me. I think you should continue to polish on it if you want with the feedback people have given(i agree with most of it). My main one would be more user feedback on actions it took me a solid 5 mins to figure out how to do damage properly (with a few restarts)

It was very hard to see the cards once i picked them up and i think the cards get way to close to you for attacking so you fully miss out on the beauty of the card artwork and the description while trying to smash them with your magic axe.

Keep up the good work!!

⏰ :alarmclock: by Stralor 2018-04-24T14:22:09Z

Really love the simplicity! At first i was wholly confused at what was going on, but after a few clicks i got it and i promptly restarted the game to get a good first impression form the start.

I even replayed a few times to see where certain parts of the story branched...really well done!!!!

Overall the game was humorous and stuck to the theme very well, but i think it could have used a bit more of an introduction in the beginning (thou my game suffers from this as well ;)).
