Yeeeah! We are live! =)
Let's do it!!
Lock n' Load Gentz!
Great
Nice looking game here man. I didn't really know until afterwards gore slowed me down. I thought it was good for some reason. Going off into the sand really puts you back. Still an enjoyable game. Good job!
Awesome!
Nice game.
Nice mood, feels very madmax.
I like the Rival driver AI.
Car engine sound could do with some changing based on speed, and the NOS could use an animation. But those are nitpick points.
Would be cool if there were more pedestrians to run over as that is very fun. Like a big bundle at the beginning.
God job team.
Loved the controls on track, just feels right. Going off track slows you down too much I think, but overall a very enjoyable game. I also thought gore-o-meter was good at first and tried to fill it up.
I just want to keep running over people, even though it makes the game harder. Nicely done making that feel so satisfying. Getting of the track is really harsh though.
Thanks for testing the game and all feedback! We have now fixed a couple of bugs that made the game a bit harder than we planned. So going off road shouldn't be as harsh as before and killing pedestrians now has a max value (you basically slowed down to a full stop before).
Very fun, reminded me of the old Carmageddon days :) Loved the visuals and the sounds, bumping on civilians was more satisfying than it should, hehe. Great work guys!
Love the art style and satisfying controls. Good Job
Oh no no! I can't get all that blood from my windshield!
Fun game! I am extremely bad at not hitting people.
Hehe, no-ones blaming you for it @jlreymendez, the pedestrians are literally asking for it! And make sure to collect a free car-wash token on the road to get excessive gore off of that windshield! :D
Here's a challenge for you guys, can anyone take my highscore? Post your score in the comment thread! :D
CARnage-highscore.png
Great job! Good style and keeping with the theme!

A mix of mario kart and carmageddon. it is fun :)
Cool game, liked it a lot. The engine sound got a bit annoying after a while but I really enjoyed the game, well done!
Awesome graphics!
Funny and really good game-feel ! But I got annoyed by the loop of the motor at the end of the first lap ^^
Well I only get Game Over, I am too slow. "Refreshing" gore game, for those who are bored by pony, cat & love. Well polished skulls & blood, green colors maybe dangerous if you don't wear sunglasses.
One of the best entries I've played so far! Good job!
Who would have thought that combination of micro machines with carmageddon will be so awesome
@cg-fred thanks for playing and rating! Yeah, we didn't get to refine the engine sound, sorry about that. But we thought it would be better to have something than nothing for the engine. :)
@anize thanks for the feedback! Hm, maybe we should lower the sound of the engine? :)
@r2d48 Thanks for playing! Don't worry, I'm mostly too slow also. :) And who doesn't drive wearing sunglasses in a desert?? ;-)
Ha. Nice. The first time around, I didn't know what I was doing, because I don't like reading directions. Then, I figured out how to play, and the next three matches, I still didn't beat a single other car. But, you know what, I stuck with it, and on my next attempt, I think I came in second. Found a nice little shortcut too, if you have NOS. Nice. This is legitimately playable, hard enough to make you want to try again, but not so difficult that you stop. Also, it's fun. Good work. Thanks for this.
Now, I'm trying to see how many people I can kill!
@kothead Wow, thanks for the kind words! I hope this isn't the first game you played though! ;o)
@serval-games Well, we hoped it would be. And I think we were right... :-) This game is definitely based on those kinds of games.
@pepri Thanks! I will tell that to our graphics meat grinder @sawtan and throw him an extra meat tonight for job well done!
@cg-fred Thanks for playing! Yeah, people seem to have a problem with the engine sound. Maybe we didn't notice since we think the sound is so awesome!? ;-) Nah, we just didn't have time to refine it...
Took me a while to get the hang of the controls and spent most of the first are off the track, but it's a lot of fun and looks really good. Love the screaming and glad it's not just a single type of scream
@rocktavious Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, we had different approaches before settling with this one. It fitted the theme of the game the best, we think.
@cubeeo Heey, thanks for playing! Bah, who has time for instructions at a death rally anyways? Yepp, we wanted there to be "shortcuts" to make it feel like you are tricking the game :-). It adds a bit of fun we think. Again, thanks for playing and good luck with the killings! Please do post an img if you get some awesome results (or just post one anyways)! It would make us happy! :-)
I wonder, why don't the people scream when they get killed by the other cars...? Maybe they enjoy getting killed by blue cars, but hate the idea of getting killed by an orange car?
Anyway, good game, I liked it.
@justking144 Haha, yepp, that was kind-of the point. :-) Its bad to kill people! But it's so fun... But if I do I go slower! Yeah, but you get more points... :-) And hey, the car is made to go off track also, only it wont go as fast....but sliding around in the sand is fuuun! Thanks for your feedback!
@jani-nykanen Hehe, actually we had that at first....but there was A LOOOOT of screaming then. :-) And it also took away some of the fun off running people over, we think. (Don't try running over people IRL though! No matter what color your car is. Only when the world comes to and end in a CARnage this is allowed!) ;o)
Damn how I used to love micro machines and carmageddon ! What a combination! :D
Very nice graphics and it is very satisfying to run over people even if it makes the game harder.
Gives me carmageddon vibes. I like it!
Great game! The graphics really stand out, well done. The control could probably need some work to get that car-driving feeling and the looped engine sound gets old fast. Thanks for creating this, it was fun to play
Great job! Definitely gets the carmageddon feel, although it's not obvious that running over peds is a negative thing. I also agree the sound for the car could use some variation for speed or something to help it not drone as bad. Speed strips were a nice touch, as well as the nos can. Art was all around fantastic. Great submission.
Veeeryyy interesting game indeed, i did enjoy it, it was funny to run over the small citizen XD (Is that an evil thought???) I liked the graphics and it was a simple but very funny game, great job good sirs.
Very classic scenario. Good job. The title screen art is lovely. The in-game graphics could use more scenery & doodads... maybe some larger stuff like buildings. It's very difficult to catch up if the pack gets a little ahead of you, because they eat all the power ups. The game would benefit from an upgrade shop screen, to incentivize the murders.
Those screams man, how could I not drive over people after hearing those? Looking through the comment thread, my 22 appear to have still been a rather small amount though.
As for the game, it's fun. I don't know Carmageddon, I only know Micro Machines and think you managed to capture the fun aspect of top-down racers while also giving it a fun twist related to the theme. Hats off to you guys.
@x-budsterized-x We did too! Did we just become best frineds? (Yupp!) :-) This is actually why we made this game, we missed those games. [?name the movie quote!]
@blizary thank you! @sawtan giggles like a little girl every time his gfx gets compliments! Running people over is part of the game, so don't feel about it. ;-)
@aaronw thanks for playing! Mission accomplished for us then! Just what we were going for!
@krasse Ooohhh, there goes @sawtan again with the giggles... ;-) Yes, those are definitely things we would loved to have refined, but didn't have time to do. Thanks for playing and enjoying, comments like this makes us happy! Are you Swedish BTW? Cause I like some krasse on my meat-sandwich! You making me hunggy! (cress)
@adrenallen well running over peds (or pedos as we like to call them, making it more OK to run them over) isn't really negative. In real life maybe, but in the game it is the only way to get a score. :-) Thanks for playing! (stop that giggling @sawtan ffs!)
@nilsson yupp, you are evil and you are going straight to hell! Sorry! But on a good note; you can play the game in hell as much as you want to! Thank you for your kind comments!
@mase classic is what we were going for! We also agree regarding the gfx, we just didn't have time to add more stuff. :( We also wanted to make the game difficult, but not impossible. Just like in the 80's! Oooh, yes, we had planned for an update/shop-screen! But there was no time to implement it... Thanks for playing!
@captaindreamcast exactly! Who doesn't like a good scream when running people over? Right? 22 is an OK score! That's 22 less mouths to feed meat to! Thanks you for your comment and for playing!
I agree with the comments about upgrade shops. It would be nice if the run over people gave you something, aside from more red on the race track.
The car handling is surprisingly good. I'd have liked them to be a bit faster, and the speed boosts a bit more .... boosty?
A very solid game. Well done! :)
I like it. The controls handle well. It took me a bit to figure out what all the power ups did. The art and graphics are nice. All in all good job.
@andreas-ragen-ayal thanks for playing and your comments! Yupp, we agree, an upgrade shop was in our backlog. But we had to remove it, didn't get the time to develop it unfortunately. And you might be correct about the boosts, there was only so much time for refinement. Thanks and Game On!
@swarrly Thanks, we did play quite a lot with the controls. Everybody has a little bit of different take on how it "should" feel. Glad you liked it! Maybe we should have added some info in-game also about the power-ups, we didn't think about that actually, thanks for the tip! Glad you enjoyed the game!
I like the style, the controls work well but I felt that it could use a little bit more drifting. The sounds were a bit meh, especially the engine sounds. Apart from that, fun entry :)
So this doesn't really feel like my kind of game, but the idea is amazing! The only two racers I ended up truly enjoying are Crash Team Racing, and the Sonic Riders games. Still, for what i played, I'm pretty impressed.
The music is a good choice, the controls are pretty spot on, and the race itself is hard enough to be a good game. The game seems very polished, and that's a big plus. Animated blood is great!
All that said, the screams seemed a bit long in my opinion, (but that makes it more fun) That's really my only true complaint.
improvements: 1. add more racetracks 2. add different kinds of people that each die in different ways. (different splats? Aliens?) 3. multiplayer! 4. add more cars, more wheels, etc 5. make the boost areas a different color, maybe? I usually see green or red, depending on the game. And along those lines, maybe have different levels of boost, each with a different color. 6. if the focus ever is removed from the game window, it would be better for the game to pause. that way you wont lose your place
Not my type of game, but I am impressed with the level of polish you put in. Well done.
Fun racing game! Took me awhile to understand the theme but I got it. Did you record those screaming sfx? Sounds fun!
Things I liked: - Art Style, skulls are nicely done, blood stamps on the car ++ - Difficulty level seems fine (but it could be lower for LD) - Carmageddon, GTA2, Mad Max Hype! - Really fun to play
Other things: - Some sounds are bit spiky to my ears (don't know why) - Enemy car are not that bumpy as player's one. They follow their route and really hard to ram them. - My first try was awfull -- I didn't recognize 'checkpoints rule' and power-up that removes blood (it looks like a resistor to me) - I'd recommend to add small unobtrusive arrows to show direction to the next checkpoint and opponents, on edge of the screen.
Here are my first tries:
https://youtu.be/v9Oaf63FdZU
:skull::skull::skull:
- Good game loop - Visuals are well made and fitting - SFX are interesting, but not overdone - Controls feel pretty tight for the type of game
- Really difficult - Unclear about the power ups on first play through (what do they do? is this fuel or what?) - The most fun thing in the game (hitting a pedestrian) is punishing to the player
I had fun, and this is a well-made entry.
@tobiasnl yeah, we had a bit of arguing on how much drifting to have / how "realistic" it should be and so on. Some people even think it is too much drifting right now. Thanks for the comments, feedback and for playing!
@nerketur the long screams are intended, they should make you think about them. If you like running over people youi'll like the sounds! If you don't like running over people. well, don't run them over and they wont scream! Easy! ;-) Thanks for playing and your great comments!
@mr-madcat why thanks for noticing! We did put some time into polishing it to make it feel more like a "real" game. Often the LD-games we make are far from polished... Thanks for playing please come again! Miua!
@tvance the plan was to record our own voices for the screams, but I'm not sure we actually had time to do it. So our sound-guy did them. I don't believe any animals or humans were harmed during the recording... ;-) Hm, yes, maybe we could have been a bit more clear on the theme, but we were just happy to be able to put something fun together, didn't have so much time to think. =) Thanks for playing!
@icxon wow, thanks for your valuable and detailed feedback. It is much appreciated! We actually agree with most of your comments (even the "other things" ;-) ). Unfortunately there wasn't time to polish it enough to take all the small quirks out of it. We hope you enjoyed it anyway and thanks for taking the time to do a detailed run down of the game!
@roaring-cat-games yeah, we wanted it to be difficult. But maybe we made it a bit too difficult in the process. The point was to make the player fight for that finish-line to make the win even sweeter... Powerups could have used a bit more polish, yeah. Hitting pedestrians isn't really just punishment though, it is the way to get score. BUT if you score to much you will go slower (as in the theme om LD40 :) ). Thanks for commenting and playing Mr/Mrs/Miss Cat Games!
drink responsibly
This LOOKED so metal that I got my expectations way up for FUCKIN' CRAZY to come raining down on me. I strapped in and prepared for the extreme.
In fact, I worked myself up into such a frenzy that I was like "WAIT A MINUTE this engine sounds like a vacuum cleaner instead of a severed leg going into a wood chipper downed an octave!" I drifted, but where was the skidding howl making me feel like I was at the edge of losing all control? I body-checked the enemy car - you know, the one with the awesome funeral art, slamming into them with my skull-adorned armor-plated wasteland-warrior monster machine, but nothing happened. No ca-runch sound, no jutter-slam rumble of power hitting power.
I was tuned to a different channel than the other drivers. I was screaming that kind of cheesy metal the metalheads won't even listen to because it's too far into the whole Dungeons and Dragons warrior hymn viking thing, but they were like rolling down the window to ask if I had any Grey Poupon. Then I drove in the dirt like a peasant and they ostracized me from their society, and I never saw them again.
I want my car sprite to vibrate a tiny hum that increases as I speed up; I want screeches and crunches and clanks; I want shoving and reactions to my actions. I want to feel out of control, edge of my seat, slammed in the face. And I want a couple of the drivers to suck, so when I drive in the dirt I still have someone to tangle with when I get back on the road.
In all seriousness, you have kind of an awesome core here. A killer art scheme, a straightforward but compelling premise of RC Pro-Am + Mad Max, and tight easy-to-pick-up controls. I was having a little fun with the review, but hope I didn't sound too negative. I think what's here is really nice, but it's got this potential to be taken up to eleven that I would have just loved to see. It takes twenty tiny touches and you'll get it there. You should totally grind them out just for kicks before calling it quits on this one.
Nice entry!
@pkenney Reading your comment is bliss! You understand where we wanted this game to go, sadly the time frame is a bit tight for going full metal on this one. It would be nice to take it the whole 20 yards post-jam, but none of us have that much time outside the jam (work, family and whatnot), so those 48 hours are our only dedicated playtime when it comes to game creating!
We'll try to keep the bar at a right height next time around to get the core feeling a bit more true. Not long till the next jam now, we'll take your thoughts to heart and try to deliver carnage for real!
