LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

The more high level the engine, the worse it gets by Ajayajayaj 2017-12-05T23:30:45Z

Yeah, going with Unity to speed up development can be a double-edged sword sometimes, especially with simple ideas. I feel your pain. Still great job on actually finishing a game.

Fuurbal by Zathnic 2017-12-05T23:21:15Z

I liked the challenge and controls, but I feel like it's very easy for furballs to get stuck. Restart level button is ok solution, but maybe some limited way to shake whole house? Also, rolling animation of player ball can be tighter so it looks like its actually rolling instead of floating. Some effect on hitting the floor would also make the main mechanic more intuitive. Overall it's got potential, core gameplay is fun.

CARnage by Rolle 2017-12-05T16:53:33Z

Loved the controls on track, just feels right. Going off track slows you down too much I think, but overall a very enjoyable game. I also thought gore-o-meter was good at first and tried to fill it up.

Penguin Royale by OWC 2017-12-05T18:40:21Z

Simply great! Only complain I have is a weird depth sorting issues on some sprites, but everything - gameplay, music, visuals - fits together and just a blast to play. Extremely fun!

Gunner Ship by Wuceng 2017-12-06T17:27:15Z

I loved the music and the fact that you changed weapon effects instead of just scaling them. Camera shake was a bit too much for my tastes.

Things are getting worse by Dyn 2017-12-05T16:12:48Z

Great animation, good music and visuals, but gameplay is meh. Some dynamics during monster encounters would help with boredom.

Temple of Greed by fusionnist 2017-12-05T17:37:08Z

Game crashes on title screen :(

El Centro Comercial with Sweatheart by davda 2017-12-05T16:06:33Z

Idea is fun, but I agree - controls need major reworking. I'd probably fix camera rotation too, since rotating world in top-down projection with lots of colorful blobs causes vertigo. Atmosphere is great and I liked the audio.

Scavenger by Stefan Richings 2017-12-08T00:02:58Z

Very atmospheric environment and music, but I felt like enemies didn't quite fit in - since you were going for horror (I assume), I'd enjoyed more spooky and weird behavior from them than just slowly walking towards you. Crawling through vents and coming out unexpectedly, crawling on ceilings, that type of things.

Also, you probably should credit all assets you used, just to be nice to their creators.

Happy Loot by Aycan 2017-12-05T18:25:27Z

I was bumbling with controls until I realized that holding RMB does nothing - only first click decides move direction. It's very unintuitive. I feel like WASD for movement and mouse for looking/actions would serve this game much better. Still had fun, and sword sound effect is hilarious.

Green Chefs and Pancakes by MrAssassin 2017-12-06T01:32:39Z

Funny and gameplay actually sucked me in for quite some time. A little bit unintuitive at first, but gets better the more your play. I'd appreciated some simple satisfying sound of a pancake flip.

Trapped by PoundTheGroundStudios 2017-12-06T01:14:17Z

Strafe (A and D) didn't work for me. I understand where you were going with atmosphere, but I agree with previous comment - environment made movement feedback impossible. I'd advised some volumetric or pseudo-volumetric fog, but I understand limitations of jam - but at least some animated fog particles would've helped. Overall, much polish is needed.

Virus Detected by NotSpaghettiGames 2017-12-06T02:02:23Z

I think there's quite a potential in this game, gameplay is engaging even barebones, after adding some features and polish I can see publishable commercial game. I would also add optional mouse aiming.

LD40 (BEAT2K) by Shivankar Sharma 2017-12-05T17:32:38Z

Beat is the most memorable part of it! I feel like controls should be more responsive with less inertia for that type of gameplay and music. Still, good work, it's a pleasant experience. Also didn't see any theme-related elements, though.

Overcharged by CatsPawsGames 2017-12-05T17:07:42Z

Thanks! I planned to change color and intensity of enemies "cores" with damage, but didn't have time to implement it - really easy task so I left it to last 2 hours, which I instead spent trying to make a working build ;)

Overcharged by CatsPawsGames 2017-12-05T17:14:24Z

Regarding sounds and hitmarks - I totally agree, these features are necessary but, sadly, time run out. If I decide to polish it further in the future, those would be my first priorities. It looks closer to UE4 because of linear colorspace along with PBS rendering and, indeed, post-processing. I think UE just does that by default while you need to switch a couple of things in Unity.

FIT_IN by cachodragon 2017-12-05T23:40:47Z

Really fun, indeed how gameplay feels reminds me of tetris - frantic yet relaxing for some reason. Some technical issues - once I got past I think 8 or 9 shapes, other ones start to appear outside rendering range, so it's very hard to proceed.

Stealing Cubes by VengeurK 2017-12-05T19:03:49Z

Very atmospheric and engaging, and great usage of inverted sphere environment. Red ball for best video-game villain of the year!

Psychoserker by Arya 2017-12-05T18:53:16Z

Sad that keyboard+mouse doesn't work, I feel like it would be easier to play with K+M than with joystick. Controls is the weakest point I think, gameplay itself is engaging and has potential.

Chaos Eater by c1tr00z 2017-12-05T03:18:55Z

Camera movement and controls got on my nerves, but the idea itself hit the right spot.

Space Overflow by PoissonSoluble 2017-12-05T18:32:55Z

Very nice, consistent, polished visuals. Gameplay is simple but fun, I feel like it could serve as a basis for a good commercial mobile game - some events and more types of resources would be interesting, I think. Overall, great job!

Buried by Books by PaperbackGorilla 2017-12-05T03:43:19Z

Ok, I'm in love with this game. Usually I'm not into puzzle platformers, and I'd prefer tighter controls, but atmosphere just made it for me.

Vermin by Hertz14 2017-12-06T01:02:41Z

Very nice and polished game. Peasant sprites are hilarious, and general theme and atmosphere is great. Honestly, not a single complaint about this game - just fun.
